About Tropidelic

A musical lighthouse, shining a resilient light for everyone that has had to pull themselves up by their bootstraps, Tropidelic has arrived on the national stage. Hailing from Cleveland, Ohio, a city rich in character and music history, this six-piece performance powerhouse carves their own path with an independent mentality. Front man Roads, explores feelings more than sounds, seeing where the emotional travel can take him, while valuing being comfortable and honest.

There is a sense of seeing where the music can go on their 2024 new album. As an everyman-band making music to overcome life’s obstacles, the “goals” that Tropidelic made when starting the band have all been surpassed. Roads says of the band’s future, “I’m nose to the grindstone. It’s going great and I am going to keep going.”

The past year has included a first pitch at a Cleveland Guardians game followed by a live performance for the entirestadium; an adopted highway in their hometown; producing two of their own festivals (Sunny Days and Everwild Music Festival); tens of millions of streams of Tropidelic’s music; appearances at major US festivals such as Beach Life and Tortuga; tours with The Dirty Heads, Lupe Fiasco, 311, and Michael Franti; and their first performance at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

About Quasi Kings

Formed in Columbus, OH in the Spring of 2016, the The Quasi Kings have quickly “cemented [their] place as the sprawling, multi-instrumental next generation of Columbus reggae.” (Columbus Dispatch). The band, led by brothers Zach (vocals, saxophone, percussion) & Benny Coleman (vocals, bass), varies in age, musical backgrounds, and taste, leading to a worldly & distinctive collage. Their premier offering, 2013’s Throwaway Culture EP, features catchy hooks, tight vocal harmonies, and a unique blend of reggae, rock, and hip-hop. Their latest album, Eye of the Storm, takes things a step further with songs like “Booze”, a raucous Sabbath inspired tune, and the dubby, horn driven “Cut It Out”. Their live shows are high energy, captivating and ever-evolving. The Quasi Kings have had the privilege to play with the likes of Steel Pulse, Badfish, Fortunate Youth, Passafire, The Expanders, Third World, Israel Vibration, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, The Werks, Dark Star Orchestra, Tropidelic, and more. Visit thequasikings.com for tour dates & more info.

The phenomenon known as Sublime, arguably the most energetic, original and uniquely eclectic band to emerge from any scene, anywhere, ended with the untimely death of lead singer, guitarist and songwriter Brad Nowell in May of 1996. But encompassing the sense of place and purpose long associated with Sublime’s music, Badfish, a Tribute to Sublime continues to channel the spirit of Sublime with a fury not felt for some time. What separates Badfish from other tribute bands is that they have replicated Sublime’s essence, developing a scene and dedicated following most commonly reserved for label- driven, mainstream acts. Badfish make their mark on the audience by playing with the spirit of Sublime. They perform not as Sublime would have, or did, but as Badfish does!

Joe Samba (Joe Sambataro) out of Salem, New Hampshire is one of the best kept secrets out of the East Coast. Boasting a vocal range unmatched by peers in the scene, coupled with phenomenal guitar playing and top notch song writing, Joe Samba is well on his way to becoming a household name.

His original blend of upbeat reggae mixed with an energetic pop edge and fusion of soul and funk, is a refreshing and unique approach that places his style in various genres encompassing reggae, ska, rock, alternative and more. Joe has been playing music all of his life fronting various bands over the years. In 2019, his solo project Joe Samba, burst on the scene with the independent release of his debut album The Wrong Impression charted #1 on Billboard’s Reggae Chart. The album garnered support across the country and earned Joe the New England Male Artist of the Year award.

In March of 2021, Joe signed to LAW Records and released his single “Beef,” capturing the deep-rooted reggae influences coupled with his brand of up-beat feel good reggae, rock and ska. His full length sophomore album “Far From Forever” will be available everywhere on June 17th.

Kings 2024 Play-In Tournament Schedule Revealed

The Sacramento Kings are two wins away from their second consecutive playoff appearance.

  • Author: Logan Struck

In this story:

After losing five of their last seven games of the regular season, the Sacramento Kings finished in ninth place in the Western Conference with a 46-36 record. Despite many fans believing the Kings would be able to dodge the play-in tournament and secure their second consecutive playoff berth, Sacramento crumbled at the end of the season and will now have to win two more games to play playoff basketball.

The Kings will kick off their post-season play on Tuesday night, hosting the Golden State Warriors in a win-or-go-home rematch of the 2023 playoffs. Almost a year ago, the Warriors took down the Kings in Sacramento in an intense Game 7, sending the Warriors onto round two and the Kings into their off-season. This season, the Kings have the opportunity for sweet revenge, as they can send the Warriors packing with one home win.

If the Kings can get past their division rival on Tuesday, they will face the loser of the New Orleans Pelicans and Los Angeles Lakers matchup, for a second consecutive win-or-go-home game.

The Kings are 4-0 against the Lakers this season, but a dreadful 0-5 against the Pelicans. Their regular season history would suggest the Kings would prefer to face Los Angeles for a spot in the playoffs, but everyone should know how dangerous superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis can be.

Sacramento's potential matchup against the Lakers or Pelicans would be played on Friday, giving the Kings a two-day rest between play-in games.

After securing the third seed in the 2023 playoffs, the Kings certainly did not expect to have to crawl their way out of the play-in tournament a year later. The Kings are two wins away from securing the eighth seed in the playoffs, but with their season on the line, they have no room for error.

Analyzing Where the Kings Stand in Tight West Playoff Race

After Hannah Gadsby's Gender Agenda, we take a look at some of Australia's up-and-coming genderqueer comedians

A composite of three genderqueer people who are wearing a combo of feminine and masculine clothes

One of my favourite things about Hannah Gadsby's Netflix showcase Gender Agenda was the very specific and niche ways the different comics identify themselves.

Canada's DeAnne Smith wants their gender to be, "almost the exact same feeling you get when you look at the word 'zucchini' spelt out". And the UK's Chloe Petts knows that, on a wedding dance floor, they 100 per cent identify "as a man with a tie on his head".

As a queer, disabled, first-generation Colombian Chilean comedian, actor and drag king, I rushed to watch Gender Agenda as soon as I could.

But, for some reason, this Netflix special barely made a splash in Australia. When talking to queer friends, I was surprised they hadn't heard of it. In a very non-scientific way, it confirmed a strong hunch that I've had for some time.

First, that Australia's comedy scene is at least a decade behind — not in terms of talent, but in terms of representation, exposure and diversity.

It's no secret that we collectively suffer from tall poppy syndrome. This affects no one more than those who don't fit the "norms" of palatable, marketable, commercial viability, i.e. queer, POC and trans artists. Our successes are rationed and harder to secure, and we're often the most susceptible to scrutiny and surveillance, missing out on opportunities altogether.

Four images of Natali Caro in various costumes, portraying various genders

Second, I think as a community, we've built up a resistance to comedy — more specifically stand-up, and understandably so. It's easy to grow disconnected from an art form that has not only consistently made us the butt of the joke, but has found immeasurable success in doing so.

Still, despite all of this, many of us continue to grind. This is something that Gadsby really thoughtfully and intentionally showcases; for so many QTPOC to be platformed like that in Australia, we'd have to be athletes rather than artists.

Gadsby also made a point of spotlighting a newer performer, Krishna Istha, saying, "when you're genderqueer in the comedy world, stage time is not always safe time". It's a feeling us POC are all too familiar with, and one that has sadly deterred some comics all together.

But if your interest is piqued, here are some trans and gender-diverse comedians in Australia you could get around:

Neptune Henriksen (They/It)

A nude person with curly hair faces side on and makes a kiss face while bathed in pink lighting

I've heard Neptune Henriksen's name attached to countless projects, and they also have some extensively impressive accolades — seriously, I suggest going to their website because it's too many to list here.

Henriksen is a comedian and theatre maker who has directed and written for other comedians' solo shows. But, finally, just like a reunion tour, they're back with their first comedy hour since 2016.

"Sex sells, but gender sells out." That one got me good.

Their new show explores "gender, capitalism and desirability, through a queer lens". In short, it's a show "for the outsiders, the weirdos and the curious".

Neptune Henriksen: Being a Woman for Money is at Melbourne International Comedy Festival until April 21.

Maddy Weeks (They/Them)

Maddy Weeks is a stand-out stand-up based in Melbourne, who started at the tender age of 17. If you know anything about how hard stand-up is, let alone as a queer performer, let alone as a non-binary performer, let alone as an ADHD performer, you know that some people really just are born with it!

I would say Weeks's stage presence is infectious, but it's more like what you take when you get an infection: It makes you feel instantly better. Their nomination for MICF's best newcomer award is well deserved.

They're bucketloads of joy and energy on stage, and every minute is equivalent to one therapy session. So, essentially, if you go to their show you can go without a mental health care plan this year. (I'm being silly — look after your mental health! Plus that's not correct maths.)

Maddy Weeks: Never Gonna Die is at Melbourne International Comedy Festival until April 21.

Jay Wymarra (He/They)

Jay Wymarra is a lauded comedian, drag queen, self-proclaimed Black nerd (huge Lord of the Rings fan) and a "true First Nations renaissance man". He's been on countless all-star and festival line-ups, with good reason. Wymarra has had years of practice, starting their comedy journey in their mid-teens through Class Clowns.

Wymarra is a very specific brand of unreined, otherworldly, fantastical joy and his sets are filled with stirring insight, (often about LOTR). If I've lost you, keep reading, there's a lot more to Wymarra. Their new show is quite a different endeavour: a "quasi-musical, comedic cabaret" and a "queer-feral rock opera". WE NEED MORE ROCK OPERAS!

Jay Wymarra: AmaJayus is at Melbourne International Comedy Festival until April 21, then will tour to Sydney Comedy Festival.

Frankie Fearce (She/They)

A person with long brown hair and a mustache dressed in a pink and floral dress

Frankie Fearce is a tradie originally from Newcastle, who is now a Sydney socialite. Her candid anecdotes and observations online have quickly grown her a cult following — one closely rivalled by that of her famous lizard, Solomon.

Donning a majestic moustache, Fearce talks about dismantling gender norms and expectations, the prejudice they experience from bigots on a daily basis and how to respond to said haters, often in the most whimsical and unexpected ways. Go for the costumes, stay for the jokes.

Are You a Boy or a Girl? is at Sydney Comedy Festival from May 15-19.

Bea Barbeau-Scurla  (She/Her/They)

Bea Barbeau-Scurla, once a regular on the Sydney comedy circuit, is now a regular in the Melbourne scene, having started multiple successful rooms across both cities. Barbeau-Scurla is not only a comedian, but an accomplished writer, film producer and performer.

Sharing her Mauritian culture and her ever-crumbling mental health in a vulnerable and brutally honest way, Barbeau-Scurla is refreshingly authentic.

She's not afraid to call herself insane — in fact, her comedy show at MICF is called Make Women Insane Again, and she revels in sharing the "crazy little thoughts" inside her brain that would have had her burned at the stake not that long ago.

Bea Barbeau-Scurla & Edan Mcgovern: Make Women Insane Again is at Melbourne International Comedy Festival until April 20.

Natali Caro (they/she) is a comedian, actor and drag king based in Sydney. In case you're wondering, they describe their gender identity as "little boys dancing". Specifically, those viral videos of little boys dancing , and the feeling you get watching their ripening confidence (which is the safe amount of male confidence).

Natali Caro Is Seeking Representation is at Melbourne International Comedy Festival until April 21.

DraftKings preview: RBC Heritage

Golfbet News

Change Text Size

The PGA TOUR heads to Hilton Head, South Carolina, this week for the RBC Heritage. Harbour Town Golf Links will be the host and measures as a 7,213-yard par 71 with Poa trivialis overseeded greens.

The RBC Heritage is a Signature Event, meaning we’ll have a field of just 69 players and no cut this week. The field is loaded, with 28 of the top 30 ranked golfers in the world set to tee it up.

Below, I have outlined three of my favorite DraftKings plays for the week.

Xander Schauffele ($10,800)

While many will flock to Patrick Cantlay this week due to his elite course history, I prefer Schauffele for just $600 more. Schauffele posted another top 10 at a major finishing solo eighth place at Augusta National. This marked his seventh top-10 finish in nine starts to begin 2024.

This season, it’s obviously been Scottie Scheffler in a tier of his own, but after that one can argue that Schauffele has been in his own tier as well. Dating back 24 rounds in this field – which is just three short of all the measured rounds most golfers have played this season – Scheffler is averaging 2.92 total strokes per round, which ranks first by a wide margin. However, Schauffele is averaging 2.13 in that time frame and is the only golfer besides Scheffler to average over 2.0 in that stretch.

Schauffele has been a beacon of consistency this season and even finished T4 at this event last year, which marked his best career finish at Harbour Town in four starts. With his first child on the way and the potential for a Scheffler WD, Schauffele is a safer pick.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout ($7,600)

Bezuidenhout has had a strong season thus far, making eight of 10 cuts with a pair of top-10 finishes and five additional T25s. The two top-10s are nice to see because the knock against Bezuidenhout the past few years has been his non-existent ceiling.

Even in this loaded field, Bezuidenhout ranks ninth in Total Strokes Gained and eighth in Strokes Gained: Approach over his past 36 rounds. Additionally, he sits second in SG: Putting in the same timeframe behind only Sahith Theegala.

The South African’s history at Harbour Town is predictably solid, having finished no worse than T33 over his three-career starts here. We will gladly take another top-25 finish out of Bezuidenhout this week at this $7,600 price tag.

Cameron Davis ($7,400)

Davis kept his foot on the gas last week at the Masters, finishing T12. He’s now finished T21 or better in four of his past six starts, including three of his past four. He ranked 12th in the field in SG: Approach at Augusta National, while sitting 10th in SG: Putting.

Outside of his miserable showing at THE PLAYERS Championship, Davis’ irons have been cooking for quite a while now. He gained 5.34 strokes on approach at AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, 4.29 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard and 1.45 at the Texas Children's Houston Open.

The Aussie also has an elite course history at Harbour Town, posting finishes of T25, T3 and T7 in this three-career starts in Hilton Head. In a no-cut event where we are guaranteed four full rounds from Davis, he’s one of the sharper plays on the board this week at this price.
