About radiohead.
Radiohead are an English rock band formed in Abingdon, Oxfordshire in 1985. The band consists of Thom Yorke (vocals, guitar, piano, keyboards), brothers Jonny Greenwood (lead guitar, keyboards, other instruments) and Colin Greenwood (bass), Ed O'Brien (guitar, backing vocals) and Philip Selway (drums, percussion). They have worked with producer Nigel Godrich and cover artist Stanley Donwood since 1994.
After signing to EMI in 1991, Radiohead released their debut single "Creep" in 1992. It became a worldwide hit after the release of their debut album, Pablo Honey (1993). Their popularity and critical standing rose in the United Kingdom with the release of their second album, The Bends (1995). Radiohead's third album, OK Computer (1997), brought them international fame; noted for its complex production and themes of modern alienation, it is often acclaimed as a landmark record of the 1990s[1] and one of the best albums in popular music. Kid A (2000) and Amnesiac (2001), recorded simultaneously, marked a dramatic change in style, incorporating influences from experimental electronic music, 20th-century classical music, krautrock, and jazz. Kid A divided listeners but was named the best album of the decade by Rolling Stone, Pitchfork and The Times.
Hail to the Thief (2003) mixed rock and electronic music with lyrics inspired by the War on Terror, and was Radiohead's final album for EMI. Their subsequent releases have pioneered alternative release platforms such as pay-what-you-want and BitTorrent; Radiohead self-released their seventh album, In Rainbows (2007), as a download for which customers could set their own price, to critical and chart success. Their eighth album, The King of Limbs (2011), an exploration of rhythm, was developed using extensive looping and sampling. A Moon Shaped Pool (2016) prominently featured Jonny Greenwood's orchestral arrangements. Jonny Greenwood, Yorke, Selway, and O'Brien have released solo works.
Radiohead had sold more than 30 million albums worldwide by 2011. Their work places highly in both listener polls and critics' lists of the best music of the 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019.

The Smile is Radiohead and Radiohead is The Smile .
Well, sort of.
Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood’s side project The Smile just released a very Radiohead-like album called “A Light for Attracting Attention” that Pitchfork called “instantly, unmistakably the best album yet by a Radiohead side project.”
Subsequently, the group announced a 19-concert headlining tour taking place from November through December this year.
It will be The Smile’s first time on the road and the first time that Yorke and Greenwood have played live together since Radiohead’s 2018 “A Moon Shaped Pool Tour.”
So, if you want to see the closest version of Radiohead around live this year, here’s everything you need to know.
Where can I buy tickets to see The Smile?
Tickets to see Yorke, Greenwood and Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner live are available on only a select few sites.

Other huge indie groups on tour in 2022
It’s hard to recommend music to Radiohead/The Smile fans.
There’s no one quite like the oft-copied, rarely replicated band.
However, here are five acts that might fit the bill if you’re looking for similar live shows this year.
- Arcade Fire’s “We Tour” featuring Beck
- Sigur Ros’ “2022 World Tour”
- Beach House’s “Once Twice Melody Tour”
- The National’s “Summer ‘22 Tour”
- Mitski’s “Working The Knife Tour”

The Smile (ft. Radiohead Members) Announce First North American Tour
The supergroup The Smile — featuring Radiohead 's Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood and Sons of Kemet's Tom Skinner — has announced their very first North American tour in support of their debut album A Light for Attracting Attention, which just came out last month.
The run is set to kick off Nov. 14 in Providence, R.I. and will wrap up in late December in Los Angeles, Calif. According to Setlist.fm , the group has only played a collective total of 20 performances since they debuted in May of 2021 at the Glastonbury Festival in England. While they've played various countries in Europe, this upcoming tour will be their very first time playing in both the U.S. and Canada.
See the full tour schedule below. Tickets go on sale June 17 and can be purchased through The Smile's website .
Greenwood described how The Smile came to fruition in an interview with NME in September, which was while the band was still in its infancy.
"The Smile came about from just wanting to work on music with Thom in lockdown. We didn’t have much time, but we just wanted to finish some songs together. It’s been very stop-start, but it’s felt a happy way to make music," the guitarist said.
At the time, the supergroup hadn't finished their debut album yet, and it was unclear whether or not they planned to tour in support of it.
"But it feels like we now have to start engaging with the outside world, having worked on this stuff alone. That’s the test, when people finally hear it. I’m looking forward to that, as what the outside world makes of you is more than half the reason for doing it," the rocker continued. "I’ve never understood the idea of music for its own sake. I remember bands I like who brought out albums I thought were disappointing. The fear of that is a big one. I’ve not met anyone who claims they don’t think about that stuff.”

As the days grow shorter in late fall, there will still be something to smile about for fans of Thom Yorke , Jonny Greenwood and Tom Skinner. The first American tour by the group, collectively known as the Smile — and not to be confused with Greenwood and Yorke’s other group, Radiohead — has been set for late fall.
The trio’s shows in the U.S. will all take place in mid-sized theaters, beginning Nov. 14 at Providence, RI’s Veterans Memorial Auditorium and wrapping up just before Christmas with a Dec. 21 gig at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.
Stops along the way include two New York City shows early in the tour, at Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre Nov. 18 and Manhattan’s Hammerstein two nights later.
Other venues along the routing, most of them historic theaters, include Chicago’s Riviera, Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, San Francisco’s Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, Toronto’s Massey Hall, New Orleans’ Orpheum, Detroit’s Masonic Temple and Portland’s Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall.
Tickets go on sale to the general public Friday at local time 10 a.m. An announcement from the band said to check the group’s website for additional information on ticket presales, but as of this writing, nothing is on the site beyond general on-sale times.
Popular on Variety
The Smile’s Nigel Godrich-produced debut album, “A Light for Attracting Attention,” came out for streaming and digital downloads on May 13. CD and vinyl copies will be released June 17.
A European tour began May 16 in Croatia and wraps up with a show in Sicily July 20. There’ll also be a one-off U.K. show at London’s All Points East on August 28 prior to the band taking to the U.S. in mid-November.
Thom Yorke most recently toured as a solo artist, prior to the pandemic in 2019, although he played one gig in Switzerland this past spring. For Radiohead, it’s been a longer gap, as the group last toured in the summer of 2018.
Reviews for the Smile’s debut album have been strong, with an aggregate score of 86 on Metacritic. Uncut magazine said the album “feels more like a refreshment, refinement or even fulfillment of Radiohead core principals, rather than an extracurricular dalliance.”
Don’t expect to hear the Smile play any Radiohead songs on tour, however; setlists from the European tour indicate shows are made up entirely of Smile songs, with the exception of a Yorke solo tune, “Feeling Pulled Apart by Horses,” that typically shows up amid the encores.
London’s Guardian offered a four-star rave review for the group’s show there, saying “Thom Yorke’s latest Radiohead spin-off, alongside Jonny Greenwood and Tom Skinner, excels the more it explores new territory in a thrilling frenzy of analogue synths and percussion. … The vast bulk of these songs are intense, layered and feature Yorke’s vocals and Greenwood on guitar. Exactly how is this not a Radiohead gig? Because Colin Greenwood, Ed O’Brien and Phil Selway are not here? So many of Yorke’s non-Radiohead projects have privileged digitals over instrumentation. It has been easy to interpret his extracurricular activity as the restless singer exploring electronic sounds that other members of Radiohead did not wish to. But the Smile is chock-a-block with guitars – electric and acoustic – with live drumming, and harp for good measure. … (Yet) the Smile are most musically convincing when they stretch farther away from Radiohead.”

Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood’s Radiohead side project the Smile have announced dates for their first American tour. It kicks off Nov. 14 at Providence, Rhode Island’s Veteran’s Memorial Auditorium, and wraps up Dec. 21 at Los Angeles’ Shine Auditorium.
The Smile, which also features drummer Tom Skinner, released their debut LP, A Light For Attracting Attention, on May 22. The group came together during the global pandemic when Yorke was unable to complete his solo tour, and he suddenly found himself with a lot of free time.
“The album reflects Yorke’s lockdown anxieties with clever musical backdrops that never obscure the songs,” Rolling Stone ‘s Kory Grow wrote in a review of the album. “As the record uncoils, you can practically hear how the songs become therapy for the musicians as they play around and work through their Covid cabin fever.”
They began an extensive European tour on May 16 in Zagreb, Croatia. The show is built around tunes from A Light For Attracting Attention , but they’ve also played Yorke’s 2009 solo song “Feeling Pulled Apart by Horses” in addition to the new composition “Friend of a Friend.” They also did Joe Jackson’s 1979 New Wave classic “It’s Different for Girls” during a livestream show in January.
Radiohead, meanwhile, have been completely inactive since wrapping up their two-year A Moon Shaped Pool at Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center on August 1, 2018. When Rolling Stone spoke to guitarist Ed O’Brien in 2020, he said they had no clear timeline for their next project. “I think that’s the beauty of what we do,” he said. “We’re not trying to fulfill contracts or maintain a lifestyle that requires us to make albums. We want to do it because we’re inspired to do it and that should always be the case. You should be inspired to work with people and make music rather than feel obligated.”
Here are the dates for the Smile’s North American tour.
