Working principle
The pistol, like its model M1911 Colt Government , works as a recoil loader based on the Browning principle. The barrel lock is also here via a chain in the form of an "8" and two lugs in the barrel.
When the shot is fired, the recoil moves the slide backwards and the rear part of the barrel is pulled down out of the lock by the chain, the barrel tilts downwards in the system. As it moves backwards, the slide pulls the empty cartridge case out of the chamber with the help of the extractor . The cartridge case hits the ejector, which conveys it out of the weapon through the ejection opening in the slide in a backward, upward movement. The slide is then driven forward again with the aid of the locking spring, and a new cartridge, if available, is pushed forward out of the magazine pushes and transported into the chamber of the barrel. When the starting position is reached, the chain pushes the rear part of the barrel upwards and locks the system in the slide.
For sport shooting, the weapon has several design features:
- Grip : The grip has a finger hook so that the shooter's hand does not move excessively even when the trigger is released several times. To improve the grip, a checker ring is attached in the lower front area.
- Trigger guard : The guard is provided with a hook that can be used for a finger of the second firing hand or to rest on a barricade.
- Carriage : The large, deep millings on the sides in the rear part of the carriage serve to improve the handling when By loading.
- Match barrel : For precision even without special accessories, the standard version is equipped with a match barrel with an adapted barrel guide in the front part of the slide.
- Further features : The weapon is also equipped with various accessories to accommodate out-of-the-box use, such as a spring guide rod for the locking spring, a micrometer sight, weight- reduced hammer, extended operating levers for the slide catch, the usual manual Colt Fuse and the standard match deduction.
If necessary, the weapon can be further adapted with improved target optics, larger magazines and other barrel systems. With an interchangeable system , the pistol can be converted from .45 ACP to the 9 × 19 mm caliber, which is more common in Europe .

Safari Arms Matchmaster Questions.....Please help!
- Add to quote
Safari Arms 1911 style pistols have been being made since Jimmy Carter was President. Changes have been made over the years, not only to the pistol but in the markings on the pistol. The company was sold to Olympic Arms in 1987. Production of new Safari Arms 1911s was discontinued this year (2014) due to a number of reasons. I cannot be sure but it is possible that you are looking at a pre-Olympic Arms pistol. https://universityofguns.com/tag/safari-arms-matchmaster/ https://archive.org/stream/firearms...911enforcermatchmasterpistol#page/n0/mode/2up
Pre-Olympic arms...is that good or bad? Thanks for all your help. I have been researching a bit more and I'm sure it's a Matchmaster I was just confused by the differing symbols on some of the guns I didn't realize that Safari Arms was founded back then.
The pre-1987 pistols command a premium over Olympic Arms Safari Arms pistols.

I'm coming from Turkey and I'm going to go to St petersburg. But I have transfer from Vnukovo airport to Pulkova airport. I have to wait 6 hours in Vnukovo.
Thank you for your answer.
> I have transfer from Vnukovo airport to Pulkova airport
> I didn't do any international transfer before
This is not an international transfer as the second flight is domestic.
> Can I visit duty-free in Vnukovo between flights because of I had international flight ?
No, because you are not leaving Russia. Besides, there's nothng of interest in the Vnukovo duty-free that you can't buy cheaper in the Istanbul duty-free.
> Or I can visit duty-free only in Pulkovo
Definitely not. The only duty-free you get to visit on your itinerary is Istanbul because it is the only place where you embark on an international flight .
> is there any attractions near Vnukovo?
> Or what can i do in 6 hours? :(
Can't think of anything other but sittng and waiting or going to Moscow . You don't have to go to the center this time but visit something closer to VKO like Victory Park, Sparrow Hills or Moscow City but the logistics is going to be tricky...
I advise doing a search here at TA...this question has been answered dozens of times...including almost minute-by-minute analysis...and am too lazy to repeat ;-)
In any event, 2 things. This to me is right at the edge of don't bother. As for IF you do bother, you will need to weigh very carefully whether even trying to take a taxi in will work time wise. The Aeroexpress and Metro will get you there quicker in many cases, and in any event, "reliably"...BUT since it only runs every 30 minutes or so, and 1 hour over lunch, if you just miss one, you lose 30 minutes right off the bat...
> it only runs every 30 minutes or so, and 1 hour over lunch
Not to/from Vnukovo.
What about no train to the airport between 11:00 and 13:00?
And do we really need to reproduce the schedule here which might confuse future readers when the schedule changes and this thread doesn't?
Ok. For future readers: check the actual schedule on the Aeroexpress site: http://aeroexpress.ru/en/vnukovo.html
Are you sure it was duty-free, not just some airport shops? It's against common sense and all my experience.
The rules were introduced by federal laws and are not airport specific.
The same site says: http://eng.regstaer.ru/faq
Unfortunately, you cannot make a purchase in a duty free store if you are not leaving the territory of the Russian Federation. According to the existing customs law of the Russian Federation, goods purchased in duty free stores must be exported outside the customs territory of the Russian Federation.
You can make a purchase in a duty free store only when leaving the territory of the Russian Federation.

M-S Safari Arms?
- Add to quote
Don't give up , it still may shoot curved bullets ! ( what a great excuse on range days )
They are intriguing........
I'd like to get the full size Matchmaster with the orginal S&W K Frame Sights or Millet Sights. Every now and then they show up on GunBroker, but go for high prices. Back in the 70s' a fellow IPSC Shooter had one and I always admired it.
They have a very nice look I think. If this deal falls apart I'm definitely keeping my eyes open for another. Just had never heard of them till this.
Safari Arms made good guns back then, they were edgy in a very conservative market. I think they took their styling cues from the custom work of Austin Behlert, he used to add hooks to trigger guards and finger notch things to the front straps of his pistols.
That's kinda what I have been reading. That the original, pre-Olympic buy out, they were good. Should have in my hands tomorrow.
Lefty? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yes, that's the major reason I adopted it. I called Olympic Arms and they indicated that it is one of 52 lefties. It appears to be in almost new condition. It would figure that after all the 1911's I've fired the first one to bounce the empties off my forehead is this one. I picked up some extra small parts for it and several leftie mags. Talk about hard to find!!!
That's cool. I new Randall had made some lefty 1911s, never knew Safari Arms did, too.
Helo, I also have a matchmaster. i' m looking for reserve springs. Do you know where i can find thes, like recoil, firingpin spring, hammerspring etc?
Should be the same as any other 5" .45ACP 1911, Wolff Springs can supply you with everything you need.
No wolf springs don't sell it, also tryed numrich gunparts
it's a 6 inch
Like I said, the springs should be the same as any other 5" 1911 in .45ACP (I'm assuming your gun has a 5" barrel, IIRCall the MatchMasters were 5" guns), it's a standardized design, it doesn't have to go by brand. You can order springs for a Colt and they'll fit your gun. The standard weight recoil spring is 16lbs, Wolff includes an extra power firing pin spring with each recoil spring, and the standard weight hammer/main spring is 23lbs. ETA: Okay, if it's a 6", does it use an extra long recoil spring or is the recoil spring plug made extra long with some sort of a block in it so that it uses a standard recoil spring?
I was just looking at a PDF of an od Safari Arms manual - http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=...45.pdf&usg=AFQjCNFfJ6SQdBUi--lP3rzuP6OciAhaZw . The pages that describe disassembling the 6" models have drawing of the disassembled pistol and the recoil spring plug looks like it is extra long and narrowed towards the front. If that is the case in your gun, it's made that way so that it uses the same recoil spring as a 5" version. You might order a slightly heavier spring (17 or 18lbs) than normal since the gun has a longer/heavier slide.
You can go to Wolff. Try the below link and scroll down till you get to longslide modifications. https://www.gunsprings.com/COLT/1911 GOV'T PISTOL/cID1/mID1/dID1#3
Yes it's a matchmaster 6 with 6 inch barrel, as same as here described http://stevespages.com/pdf/safari_45.pdf
I think no extra block in it, so it will be an extra long recoil spring (than 5 inch)
Ok dakota, i have look on the page you mentioned they say: Wolff longslide recoil springs are designed for use in pistols with recoil spaces up to 3" (when slide is in full recoil position) I don't untherstand very well what they mean with this. So you think i will fit? Longslide model= longer than for 5 inch barrel?
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...UFzWaHOyEe_11IfTQ&sig2=2VB5Q5F2CO9dkHyDvLfxgw
Ok thank you all, for your information,
Pull your recoil spring plug and post a picture of it.
I get it out and mesured it, it's exact 16cm long, with 31 circular turns...
That's a standard length recoil spring for a 5" 1911. Like I said before, it is likely that your recoil spring plug is extra long on the outside but internally is made to accommodate a standard length spring. So, you can order your springs from Wolff, order the recoil spring for a full size 5"/Government Model 1911 and it will come with an extra power firing pin spring. Standard weight is 16lbs, I'd go a little heavier, 17 or 18lbs because of the extra mass of the longer/heavier slide. They also have the hammer/main springs, standard weight is 23lbs. Post up some pics of your gun some time, there aren't a lot of Safari Arms out there, especially long slides, I'd sure like to see it.

Safari Arms Matchmaster 5
- Add to quote
Stopped in to a LGS last weekend while on the hunt for a Gold Cup. This Matchmaster caught my eye, so I checked it out, wiped the drool off my beard and left empty handed. I got home, and couldn't get that pistol off my mind. After a bit of deliberation, I sent an email to the store owner that I had to have it, and would be in today for it. I picked it up after work, gave it a quick clean and lube, then took it out back with a box of FMJ. The gun was sold as used, but I found no evidence that it actually was. I think it was somebody's safe Queen. It was getting dark, so I just burned through 50 rounds, but this thing is a shooter! I have never shot so well in my life! I produced a very respectable 25 yard group with 25 rounds that eclipses any previous 25 yard shooting I have done. I used up the last few magazines making cans dance across the ground and busting clay pigeons with a success rate previously unimagined of myself. It feels like I was supposed to wind up with this gun. I am one happy camper!

Very nice. Congratulations!
I'm actually liking the bottle opener... I think some of the credit to my doing so well shooting it is due to that thing. It does push my middle finger up into the trigger guard a bit, but I suspect I'll quickly grow another callus there and it'll become a non issue. Looking forward to trying a couple hundred of my normal LSWC reloads this evening!
Nice, very nice find
It's amazing what a really good gun can do for one's shooting. Congrats
Tried out some of my usual 200gn LSWC over 6.2gn of Unique. Was starting to show some promise, but after about 75 rounds, the rear sight came loose. Target was at 60', and shooting as fast as I could get the sight picture again. Definitely have some things to work on myself, but the gun is great! Loctite on the rear sight set screws tonight, then re zero tomorrow. Gotta get as much shooting in as I can before shoulder surgery on next Thursday!
Mine must be pre 2003 then, with the 60XX S/N. I am guessing by a few years since it's a couple thousand earlier, and they were all hand fit by Richard. It seems to fit my hand pretty well too. I do have some VZ grips on it right now for range time. They are a little easier to hang on to, plus I'd hate to ding up the pristine original ones. I'm sure I would be enjoying a Gold Cup if my search didn't veer in this direction, but I am glad I decided to go for this one. I was working out of a holster yesterday, and the duck bill didn't slow my draw down, but seems to have sped up my follow ups. I could stand to find a bit more compatible holster, but I have a Galco pancake that works OK for now. Can't wait to get out of the sling, healed up and get back to shooting in a couple/few months
Too bad Olympic Arms' head pistolsmith (Richard Neimer) passed away last year. Their entire 1911 pistol line is now discontinued. Sucks...:bawling:

What year was yours made? The reason I ask is I just bought one and its sn is S275X. I'm trying to get more information on it. I got it at an estate auction.
206! very nice
I wish! I photo-shopped out the last digit of the serial number. Still...it's an oldie.
I have a Westerner and a Matchmaster 6 that are both 3 digit SNs.
Sounds like a nice collection. I think the Westerners are a beautiful pistol. I hear they are great shooters, too.
Olympic Arms purchased M-S Safari Arms in 1987. In 2004, the Safari Arms product name was discontinued. I believe mine is early to mid 1990's because of the large billboard stamping of the scorpion and "SAFARI ARMS" on the slide. I haven't been able to pin down the exact date of manufacture.
Matchmaker 5" Hi Guys, This beauty has been offered to me for sale. Does anyone have an idea about the age of this weapon? And would it be a good buy for about 500 USD? Thanks for all information!

With a few exceptions. Gun is in excellent shape for the age with minimal light marks on the stainless. Grips have a couple small dings. Grips screws aren't perfect. I've shot this very little but it was very accurate. Comes with gun, mag, and manual. No case. $1,500.00. Now $1,400.00 shipped.
The Matchmaster was an extremely high-quality M1911 designed for competition. These guns are exquisite works and border on absurd in terms of price. A more typical Safari Arms Matchmaster (Photo: Wikimedia Commons) Admittedly, if you were an assassin, the Matchmaster is the type of gun you could trust your life to.

There are no markings on the slide. On most I've seen there's the scorpion and "Matchmaster" markings. The one I'm looking at is exactly like this:
Safari Arms Matchmaster .45. Stainless steel with adjustable rear sight. Beaver tail and finger groove grip. Comes with one Kimber magazine. Very smooth action. Missing front sight insert. $825 shipped. Thanks for looking! SOLD. Rifle Caliber: 6.5x47mm Lapua, 6.5x48mmR, 6.5x52mmR.

Match Master. As above, with 5" barrel. Gun Type: Handgun. NIB $0000. Excellent $0000. Very Good $0000. Good $0000.
Certain features like the finger groove, the Upswept grip safety, etc. Set them apart from other 1911's. I think the quailty of a recent production gun like the Colt Commander will be better in respect to Barrel fit, Barrel bushing fit, Slide to frame fit, etc. So if I could pick up the Safari under the $800 mark , I would get it.

Safari Arms Enforcer Carry Comp. *Rare*. This is the only one of these I've ever seen. Let alone with an extra slide and factory box and paperwork. Nice shape with some normal wear.
