Critic reviews for star trek prodigy: supernova, nintendo life.

For Trek-starved fans with Nintendo consoles, Star Trek Prodigy: Supernova does a good job - far better than you might expect - of channelling the show's spirit and appeal into a light, kid-friendly co-op adventure with plenty of puzzles. By tapping into those Trek tenets of friendship, cooperation, and problem-solving as a team, Tessera Studios has created something far closer in spirit to the series than any dry space sim, even if (much like the inexperienced crew running the Protostar) it can often feel a little rough around the edges. It's not set to stun, then, but it shows plenty of promise, especially if you have young cadets eager to enlist.

The poor writing and bad direction don't take away too much from the co-op action of this cartoon tie-in. Fans of the show will definitely get more out of it than non-fans.

NintendoWorldReport

Fans of the series will also find plenty to enjoy from familiar characters. While combat can get a little repetitive, the puzzles are genuinely inventive. Ultimately whether a trekkie or not, Supernova provides a reasonably solid experience with fun multiplayer that is approachable for everyone.

Star Trek Prodigy: Supernova represents an effort to engage the children's audience not only on TV screens, but also in video games. But for that, it brings too little interesting content, and moreover, the stereotype immediately sets in. So you only have a five-hour journey across 3 planets, where you do the same thing over and over. Moreover, with glitches and a bad camera work.

Rapid Reviews UK

Star Trek as a franchise has gone through quite the revival over the last few years. With shows like ‘Star Trek: Picard’, ‘Star Trek: Discovery’, and ‘Star Trek: Lower Decks’ to entertain adult “Trekkies”. Not content with leaving Star Trek to the mature crowd, Alex Kurzman has delivered his extended universe to the younger generation too.

Star Trek: Prodigy Supernova has an enjoyable gameplay loop that, undoubtedly, is best enjoyed in local co-op and played with a fan of the show. It doesn’t break new ground in the platforming space and certainly isn’t among the best Star Trek games, but the story really befits the characters and the game stayed fresh enough to remain interesting over the long term.

LadiesGamers.com

For some, the game might be a bit prescriptive. But it’s based on an animated children’s TV programme, so it needs to be playable and enjoyable for that audience. This would be a great introduction to the adventure puzzle genre for younger players. That said, I thoroughly enjoyed playing it. I didn’t need to know anything about the TV series to engage fully with Star Trek Prodigy: Supernova.

WayTooManyGames

Cheapness and slight amount of jank aside, Star Trek Prodigy: Supernova is actually a pretty decent game.

Screen Rant

It's time to let go of zelda: wind waker & twilight princess on nintendo switch.

The perfect Switch ports probably aren't happening, but that sad fact doesn't mean that these classic Zelda games will never be seen again.

  • The Switch 2 is a more likely destination for Wind Waker and Twilight Princess .
  • 2024 is likely the last year of major Switch support.
  • Bolstering the Switch 2's launch library with classic Zelda games would increase its appeal.

Being able to play The Legend of Zelda : The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess on the Nintendo Switch has been the dream of many console owners since its launch, but the smart thing to do at this point is to accept that it's not going to happen. Both of these classic Zelda titles made triumphant returns on the Wii U, but they've been stuck there ever since. Considering how many Wii U titles have received Switch ports, it's been odd that two remastered entries in one of Nintendo's biggest franchises never made the jump.

The Wii U versions of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess aren't radically different from their original presentations, but there's a strong case to be made that the remasters are the best way to play the games today . This is especially true for Wind Waker , which translates exceptionally well to HD thanks to its timeless cel-shaded style. Both games also benefit from a few quality-of-life changes, like streamlining a slow treasure hunt in Wind Waker and making it possible to switch into Link's wolf form with the press of a button in Twilight Princess.

The Perfect Zelda: TOTK Sequel Is A Completely Different Game

The switch 2 might have wind waker & twilight princess, 2024 is probably the last year of major switch support.

The Nintendo Switch has been out for seven years already, and although it's still going strong, it's just about at the end of its life cycle as the central Nintendo console. Rumors have been flying about a Switch 2 release in the near future for some time now, which was originally looking like a 2024 release but seems more likely to arrive in 2025 now. Even with that delay, the Switch's days are numbered, and Nintendo will obviously want to put the spotlight on the Switch 2 in the near future.

At this point, it makes more sense that Wind Waker and Twilight Princess would release as early Switch 2 catalog entries rather than late Switch ones , even if the current system is more than capable of handling them. The Switch seems to be making its final salvo with remasters like Luigi's Mansion 2 HD and Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door , presumably lead-ins to the transition period that don't require Nintendo to invest in the development of major new franchise games. Since the Zelda Wii U remasters haven't been revealed among these, that ship has probably already sailed.

Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD - Release Date, Story, & Changes From The Original

The switch 2 will need zelda games in its launch year, a new 3d zelda game isn't likely in 2025.

Considering the recent release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom , a major new Zelda game probably isn't in the cards for the Switch 2's launch year, which would make Wind Waker and Twilight Princess perfect ways to fill the gap . The Switch had both Super Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild to cover Mario and Zelda in its first year, with the souped-up Mario Kart 8 Deluxe performing an assist. A new 3D Mario game is likely for the Switch 2's launch, and letting classic Zelda remasters support it would flesh out the library's immediate appeal.

It's not impossible that Wind Waker and Twilight Princess could end up being a cross-generation release on both the Switch and Switch 2 , since anything short of actual remakes would presumably work on both systems. Unlike the cross-generation releases of the original Twilight Princess and Breath of the Wild , however, the company has no promise of a current-generation release to uphold, and making them exclusive to the Switch successor would help incentivize sales.

Ocarina Of Time Deserves A Remake, But Not The One You Expect

At the same time, complaints about the lack of a Switch release would be inevitable without major changes to the game, leaving Nintendo in a weird situation. One possibility is that a full-blown remake or two could indeed be in the works, and the more realistic style of Twilight Princess could be the perfect material to update as a way to show off the full extent of the Switch 2's graphical capabilities .

At any rate, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess remasters aren't likely to release this year in any scenario short of a Hail Mary to fill the gap caused by the Switch 2 delay. Between the expansive open-world games, the polished Link's Awakening remake and Skyward Sword remaster, and the classic games on Nintendo Switch Online, there's more than enough Zelda to play on the current platform as consolation. Getting The Legend of Zelda : The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess on the Switch would be wonderful, but holding out hope is more likely to end in disappointment than anything else.

Kirby: Every Game On The Switch, Ranked

  • Kirby's Dream Land 2 is one of Kirby's greatest adventures, expanding on its predecessor with new friends and endless possibilities.
  • Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards introduces a unique ability to combine copy abilities, adding depth to the gameplay experience.
  • Kirby Superstar offers multiple memorable campaigns, showcasing classic Kirby gameplay in concentrated doses.

Kirby is one of the most memorable characters in Nintendo's history, and leave it to them to make a pink circle, two eyes, and a mouth a cultural juggernaut that is taken with the same level of respect as Mario, Sonic, and Link.

Ranking Every Main Kirby Game From Worst to Best

The Nintendo Switch is a home for both the newer and older titles in the Kirby series, thanks to Nintendo Switch Online 's retro collection and Hal Laboratory's dedication to keeping the Kirby renaissance going. But, with every great series comes a question: which game is the best, and which should I spend my money on?

Updated on March 19, 2024, by Kyle Chamaillard: Kirby has starred in a lot of games, and fortunately, most of them are available in one way or another on the Nintendo Switch. We've decided to update this list to include even more titles and rank them, so you know which ones to play first.

Kirby Fighters 2

Kirby Fighters 2 is okay for what it is: a fighting game consisting entirely of Kirby characters. With 22 playable fighters (17 of which are Kirby abilities, and the remainder, buddies), it does exactly what it needs to be a passable fighting game.

The thing that drops it to the bottom of the list is that it plays so similarly to Super Smash Bros. that you might as well just play that since it offers more content and overlaps a decent amount with Kirby Fighters 2. If you just can't get enough of Kirby, though, this is the game for you.

Super Kirby Clash

Super Kirby Clash is a fine free-to-start experience that doesn't touch any of the highs of the rest of Kirby's titles but is still a fun time nonetheless. You'll spend most of your time taking on challenging missions, which are essentially mainline Kirby boss fights, with three other players (or CPUs) of varying RPG classes.

While there is a lot of content here, most of it revolves around a singular experience that you can only play in small bursts before running out of in-game currency, which either restores by itself over time or is purchased for real money. If you like Kirby boss fights to the max, maybe Super Kirby Clash will scratch your itch.

Kirby's Dream Buffet

Like most of the games on the top half of this list, Kirby's Dream Buffet is just okay– there aren't any bombshell titles that are terrible, only games that are underwhelming. Kirby's Dream Buffet centers around a gameplay loop of racing three other players to the end of food-filled tracks to get the biggest bounty of strawberries.

There are a decent amount of tracks, a variety of bonus game modes, and cute costumes that you can make Kirby wear , but at the end of the day, the core of the gameplay is more something you might pull out at a party than call your favorite Kirby game.

Kirby's Star Stacker

Kirby's Star Stacker launched on the Game Boy internationally, but the Super Famicom version of the game - the one that is currently available on Nintendo Switch Online - was only available in Japan until recently. The console version features better graphics and a competitive multiplayer mode, which makes it superior to the handheld Star Stacker.

13 Best Puzzle Games On Nintendo Switch

If you enjoy puzzle games like Tetris or Dr. Mario , it won't take long for you to be sucked in by Star Stacker's surprisingly engaging gameplay. The colorful blocks and character portraits create a friendly atmosphere for a game that can also be incredibly challenging if you play on one of the higher-difficulty settings.

Kirby's Avalanche

Kirby's Avalanche is Puyo Puyo. No, not like Puyo Puyo, and not borrowing from Puyo Puyo– Kirby's Avalanche is, one for one, a Puyo Puyo game with a coat of paint resembling the pink puffball and his world.

There's not much to say here– if you like Puyo Puyo, this does the job and provides something new to look at while playing. Even so, you won't be blamed if you're looking for a little more that actually concerns Kirby in a game that has his name on it. At least Kirby gives you something to look at by hopping around the screen as you play.

Kirby's Dream Land

Kirby's Dream Land for the Game Boy was the protagonist's first adventure, though most of his iconic features wouldn't be introduced until Kirby's Adventure for the NES. Here, Kirby can eat and spit out enemies, but he doesn't have the power to copy their abilities yet.

While Kirby's versatility is a defining characteristic, Dream Land is still a great platformer that introduces iconic characters, like Whispy Woods, King Dedede, and Kracko. If you're a completionist who wants to play every Kirby game available, the first chapter of his story should take roughly an hour to complete.

Kirby Tilt 'N' Tumble

Kirby has starred in some interesting spin-offs and Tilt 'N' Tumble was one of the first examples of how flexible and weird the pink protagonist is willing to get. When it first launched on the Game Boy , the cartridge had a built-in accelerometer, so you could tilt your console to control which direction Kirby rolls toward.

It's a fun gimmick that only gets frustrating when it misreads what direction you want Kirby to go in. This mechanic has been carried over to Tilt 'N' Tumble on Nintendo Switch Online, so you can move your console around - preferably in handheld mode- to get Kirby to the goal in this unique title.

Kirby's Dream Course

Yeah, Kirby's Dream Course might just be golf, but it does such a great job of combining the sport with the world and key elements of Kirby that it can be excused. Rather than get to the hole in as few strikes as possible, you want to eliminate all the enemies on the field to reveal an exit to escape to.

18 Best SNES Games On Nintendo Switch Online

Even further, copy abilities play a core role in gameplay, altering how Kirby moves when struck and causing you to be more intentional about the order in which you eliminate enemies.

Kirby And The Amazing Mirror

Kirby and the Amazing Mirror originally arrived on the Game Boy Advance and introduced a couple of fun twists to the classic Kirby formula. Firstly, the game's map is less linear than other titles and feels more like a Metroidvania than a straight platformer, and you can play it with up to three friends as long as everyone owns a copy of the game.

It's refreshing to see Kirby break the mold, but Amazing Mirror still has a handful of flaws that prevent it from being a better game. Still, it's great that you can play it wherever you like, and if your friends also subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online, you can play the entire game with them through online co-op.

Kirby's Dream Land 2

Kirby's Dream Land 2 takes everything from its predecessor and expands upon it to create one of Kirby's greatest adventures. While the first Dream Land lacked some personality and Kirby's iconic copy abilities, the sequel remedies this with colorful flair and seemingly endless possibilities.

More than anything, Dream Land 2 is often viewed as one of the more challenging games in a series that's often perceived to be for younger audiences. Earning 100% completion will require you to solve some tough puzzles with the help of some new friends - Rick, Kine, and Coo.

Kirby's Dream Land 3

Similar to how Dream Land 2 builds on the foundation of the first game, Dream Land 3 takes the mechanics and concepts from its predecessors and expands on them to create a rich and colorful new adventure.

While Kirby's Dream Land 3 doesn't bring much new to the table regarding gameplay, the big selling point is that it looks absolutely gorgeous, especially in comparison to the first and second Kirby's Dream Land. Even the partners, hailing from the second game in the Dream Land series, are back and looking better than ever.

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards

Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards is technically the first three-dimensional game in the series, though since all gameplay is restricted to a single rail, it's more like two and a half dimensions. Introducing a new slew of characters and one of the more menacing antagonists in the series, Kirby 64 is a solid experience despite its age.

Every N64 Game On Nintendo Switch Online, Ranked

The big thing that sells the game is Kirby's new power to combine any two copy abilities and make a powerful new ability that shares their traits – for example, you can take Burn and Cutter to make a giant burning blade for Kirby to use. This little feature alone makes braving some of the game's dodgier design choices worth it.

Kirby's Adventure

Kirby's Adventure introduced two things that modern Kirby would be nothing without– firstly, it gave Kirby the iconic pink that makes him so recognizable, and secondly, it introduced the copy ability gameplay that has defined the series since.

The game looks fantastic for only being the second game in the series, and it played so well that very few aspects of the original design have been changed in modern iterations of this classic romp. At the end of the day, though, the newer offerings do a great job of adding elements to the gameplay that make this game feel overly simple.

Kirby Star Allies

Kirby Star Allies takes the small gameplay mechanic of spawning a helper introduced in Kirby Super Star and expands it into a main gimmick. Kirby's lovable exterior allows him to make a helpful ally out of any enemy he comes across.

While Kirby Star Allies is a great game in the Kirby catalogue, it's held back by having a worse overall level design compared to older titles in the series. Still, the friend system allows new ways to use and store abilities you don't see in other Kirby titles.

Kirby's Return To Dream Land Deluxe

Kirby's Return to Dream Land is the prototypical modern Kirby game; it takes everything great about the original Kirby's Dream Land formula and refreshes it for the modern era without removing any of the core pieces that make Kirby feel like Kirby.

The game doesn't really need a gimmick since it's a more consistent and streamlined version of the second game's ability-stealing gameplay , but it still adds Super Abilities to the mix to keep everything feeling fresh. Kirby's Return to Dream Land is undoubtedly the best traditional, linear two-dimensional Kirby game.

Kirby And The Forgotten Land

Kirby and the Forgotten Land attempts Kirby's second transition to the third dimension much better than the first, allowing him to move in the full environment rather than walking on a predetermined rail. The gameplay manages to still feel and play like Kirby despite the added dimension and makes itself intensely memorable by utilizing brand-new environments for Kirby to explore.

Kirby is at his very best in this installment, matching the level of quality seen in the rest of the series while upping the ante of the visuals and rarely retreading what has already been done. An incredible amount of work has been put into making sure this game feels like a natural extension of Kirby's classic gameplay.

Kirby Superstar

Kirby Superstar is the best Kirby game short of Superstar Ultra, but it's sort of cheating. Instead of going whole hog like the other titles in Kirby's repertoire, Kirby Superstar makes multiple smaller campaigns that are memorable due to being much more concentrated shots of classic Kirby gameplay.

The fact that Dyna Blade, Milky Way Wishes, and Great Cave offensive are some of the most referenced campaigns from Kirby points to how high quality they could be throughout their short run times.

'rebel moon part 2: the scargiver’ is bad, and the bad kind of bad.

With the release of Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver , it appears the saga of Zack Snyder’s would-be Star Wars universe is at an end, even if he claims he wants to make six movies in total. R-rated cuts of the first two films are coming this summer, but after watching the first drafts, it’s going to be extremely tough to have the desire to sit through 4-6 more hours, no matter how much gore and nudity is added.

The second film is reviewing worse than the first film, which was already the most poorly reviewed film in his catalogue. And that’s because Rebel Moon Part 2 very much is worse, but both entries are exceedingly poor. Spoilers follow.

Rebel Moon Part 2 is bad in a bad way. I’ll contrast this with say, Madame Web, which is so utterly bizarre and nonsensical it’s almost charming, despite being clearly terrible. Rebel Moon is just a self-serious slog, peppered by some occasional neat worldbuilding and decent action, and that’s just as true for Part 1 as it is Part 2.

The script here is the problem. The main issue is the entire structure of the storyline, which is pulled from Seven Samurai so directly it’s not an homage, it’s a rip-off. The first film had galactic travel to assemble its core warriors, the second half stays entirely within the confines of a single moon and a single village of about eight buildings, and has a “train the villagers to fight” sequence that again, clones its source material.

The Best Gaming Mouse That’ll Improve Your Aim

But if The Magnificent Seven was also taken from Seven Samurai, Zack Snyder is no John Hughes. The film is charmless, lifeless, no matter how much slo-mo action is injected into it. The only actor who seems in on the joke is the villain, a Space Nazi commander played by Ed Srkein who goes so far over the top it breaks with the overly straight-faced tone of the rest of the film.

The problem is not the actors, these are all great performers in their own right, it’s the script they have to recite. Half is pulled from Kurosawa in an ugly way, the other half is Snyder going off on wild tangents, the most absurd scene being the assassination of a royal family, a replica of Caesar in the Senate, while an orchestra plays through the whole thing. Not orchestral music, a literal orchestra sitting in the room thirty feet away. This is Madame Web territory, but the rest is not “so bad it’s good,” it’s just bad. There’s a scene where the remaining warriors go around a circle and all have “here is my traumatic backstory” flashbacks in a row, like Snyder remembered he had to jam in all the character development that was missing from the first film. And somehow by the end, he has killed the only interesting warrior, Doona Bae’s Nemesis, in another poor decision.

There is a 40 minute stretch of time where there is some amount of decent action. I’ve been a fan of many of Snyder’s action sequences since 300, but here, the absurd editing out of any blood or gore for this utterly neutered PG-13 version makes so many of these scenes ridiculous as axes clang off armor and it somehow kills the soldier in question. Snyder himself keeps plugging the R-rated cut as the “real” version which is an entirely different movie, but this entire concept is a horribly failed marketing gimmick by Netflix which has backfired spectacularly. No, I don’t believe those other cuts can save these two movies, but it’s clear that’s what should have been released in the first place.

The film does not offer a satisfying conclusion, with the main bad guy still alive and warriors committing to take him down. This is of course because Snyder believes he will make 1, 2, 3, 4 more of these movies in a plan that seems detached from reality. Netflix may be able to ignore poor reviews (but these are embarrassingly poor) if viewership is there, but I cannot imagine them continuing the funnel this expensive universe that is clearly not going anywhere most people want to follow. Netflix was hoping it would strike gold with the next Star Wars or Star Trek or even The Expanse. Instead, this is Jupiter Ascending with fewer A-listers.

I have liked many Zack Snyder films, even as some dismiss his entire back catalogue. 300 has long been a favorite of mine, his Watchmen adaptation was great, I am a Man of Steel apologist. But he has gotten lost somewhere these last years, both in terms of film quality but this culture he’s crafted in his fanbase revolving around director’s cut and chopped up versions of films that need to be “fixed.” This time, it was done on purpose which is just bizarre, and clearly damaged the entire project.

I’ll watch the R-rated cuts. I essentially have to. But this IP and its universe have very clearly blown up on the launchpad, and nothing is going to change that.

Wii U games that still haven’t been ported to Switch

Posted on april 14, 2024 by ethan in features , switch , wii u.

Wii U games not ported to Switch

Given the seemingly never-ending stream of leaks for Nintendo’s next console, it would appear that Switch is nearing the end of its life cycle – maybe. In its early years, however, many of its major releases were ports of games originally released on Wii U. Some of these were straightforward with a tiny bit of extra content like Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, while others placed a higher focus on new content – like Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. There are still a number of major Wii U games that haven’t been ported to Switch, however. Today, we’re looking at these Wii U games, why they haven’t been ported to the Switch just yet, and how likely a potential port could be.

Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival

Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival (Wii U games)

We still remember the initial announcement trailer for Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival. It started out with a glimpse of an Animal Crossing: New Leaf town in glorious high-definition… and then we saw board game spaces. This wasn’t the HD Animal Crossing fans were hoping for at the time. In fact, we’re not sure if anyone really hoped for this! Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival aimed to capitalize on 2014 and 2015’s amiibo craze with a new line of figurines. Unfortunately, it failed to realize that previous amiibo sold so well because they were Super Smash Bros. amiibo, not because they were amiibo, if that makes sense. So many Animal Crossing amiibo were manufactured and left unsold that manufacturers eventually cut down on retail space for amiibo. In other words, Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival was one of the most disappointing Wii U games ever released. We’re definitely never seeing this on Switch!

Paper Mario: Color Splash

Paper Mario Color Splash

This was one of the last first-party Wii U games ever released – in fact, it was the very last one before the announcement of the Switch. Though Paper Mario: Color Splash wasn’t as harshly received as Paper Mario: Sticker Star, it still had its fair share of problems. It still required expendable items to be able to attack, adding a rather unnecessary layer of complication on top of the traditional Paper Mario battle system. Furthermore, many of the game’s bosses require very specific Thing stickers that you simply cannot win the battle without. That’s not even mentioning the incredible lack of character and NPC diversity the series is known for. Thankfully, Color Splash does have its upsides, however few: the game’s writing is top-notch, and although the story is nothing special, dialogue from the generic Toad NPCs is often interesting enough to keep you playing the game. Given Nintendo’s imminent release of the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake, it seems there’s a chance for the series to get back on track. A Color Splash port is extremely unlikely at this point – The Thousand-Year Door and The Origami King are both considered better games, so Color Splash wouldn’t sell well at all in comparison. Fun fact: Color Splash is one of the only recent Mario games to never sell a million units.

Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash

Mario Tennis Ultra Smash (Wii U games)

This was another one of the final first-party Wii U games. It definitely shows, too: in terms of content, Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash offers the absolute bare minimum. Other than standard and Mega Mushroom tennis, the game gives little reason to come back to it other than to waste time. In terms of things that set Ultra Smash apart from other games in the series… it has the Sprixie Princess as a playable character? It has amiibo support? These little quirks aren’t enough to make Ultra Smash worth porting. Not to mention the vastly superior Mario Tennis Aces is already available on Switch. It’s safe to say that Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash will remain a relic of the Wii U’s final days and not much else.

Star Fox Zero

Star Fox Zero (Wii U games)

You could technically count the Star Fox content in Starlink: Battle for Atlas as the most recent game in the series, but Star Fox Zero is the last time Nintendo itself developed a new Star Fox title. Unfortunately, this one was kind of a flop. The camera system, controls, gameplay, and reliance on switching between the TV and Wii U GamePad didn’t quite sit right with fans of the series. In terms of story, Star Fox Zero is yet another reboot of the franchise that essentially tells the story of Star Fox 64 once again. If there were to be Star Fox on Switch in any capacity, we’d rather see a new game that advances the canon beyond a retelling of Star Fox 64. Besides, the controls would likely need a rework to function on Switch at all.

Yoshi’s Woolly World

Yoshi's Woolly World

Of all the Wii U games on this list, Yoshi’s Woolly World is the one we’re most disappointed to see here. It did receive a rather good 3DS port, but at a much smaller resolution. Yoshi’s Crafted World probably stands in the way of a Yoshi’s Woolly World port, but we’d love to see one that combines all the content from the Wii U and 3DS versions and adds a few more amiibo costumes for the recently-released ones. Yoshi’s Woolly World is certainly one of the best Wii U games out there, and it absolutely deserves a second chance at success on Nintendo Switch. It’s probably unlikely, but it’d be a good candidate to fill the gaps of what’s been a fairly quiet year for Nintendo so far.

Nintendo Land

Nintendo Land (Wii U games)

The original Wii took off at least in part thanks to Wii Sports, its pack-in title. Nintendo Land is an incredibly high-quality title, but it unfortunately didn’t bring the Wii U anywhere close to the same degree of success. That’s not the game’s fault, though! Nintendo Land is home to plenty of mini-games, both single-player and multiplayer. Mario Chase, Luigi’s Ghost Mansion, Metroid Blast, and The Legend of Zelda: Battle Quest are all great fun, and there are even more games available to players looking for additional content. The odds that we get a port of Nintendo Land on Switch, however, are almost none. Several of the multiplayer minigames require a player to use the Wii U GamePad in addition to other players looking at the TV screen. This isn’t possible on Switch unless you have two separate consoles, and we haven’t seen a ton of games that take advantage of two Switches in this manner. For the time being, it seems Nintendo Land is locked to the Wii U.

Pushmo World

Pushmo World (Wii U games)

Pushmo was an incredibly active series on 3DS with over three different games released for the system during its lifespan. A single entry was released on the Wii U, too – Pushmo World. While we’re not exactly hoping for a straight port of this game to Switch, it is a bit sad that we’ve seen nothing of Pushmo on one of Nintendo’s most successful platforms. In this era of Nintendo, we don’t get many budget eShop titles, and a new Pushmo game would fill this niche. We’d take Crashmo, too!

The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD

Twilight Princess HD

This one’s kind of confusing. How are these two games not on Switch yet?! For many, The Legend of Zelda hit its peak with Breath of the Wild – this certainly attracted tons of new players to the series, and it would’ve been great timing to re-release two of Link’s most beloved adventures. The games’ control schemes might need a tiny bit of reworking, but they’d otherwise be a perfect fit for the Switch. Especially in 2024, given how light Nintendo’s release schedule is so far. Admittedly, more ports and remakes wouldn’t make their lineup this year much more impressive, but they’re still quality remasters worth enjoying in the modern day.

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse (Wii U games)

This is a game that would need some serious reworking if it were ever to come to Switch. The Wii U GamePad was an absolute necessity for Kirby and the Rainbow Curse – and the only way to recreate it on Switch would be to force handheld play with a stylus. That kind of defeats the point of the Switch, and we’d imagine there’d need to be too many changes to get Kirby and the Rainbow Curse working with Joy-Con or a Pro Controller. Besides, this wasn’t a hugely well-received entry in the series – though its graphics and soundtrack are absolutely stellar, even by Kirby standards.

Xenoblade Chronicles X

Xenoblade Chronicles X Banner

Xenoblade Chronicles X is currently the only major Xenoblade game that isn’t on the Switch. It also just lost a whole bunch of its online features, so the time for an enhanced port is definitely right! Both to provide quality-of-life updates and to complete the series all on one console. We’d also be happy with a port on whatever Nintendo’s next console winds up being. Maybe waiting for that console could result in some faster load times (and maybe a smaller file size for the game, too).

Overall, there are still a number of Wii U games that haven’t released on Switch yet. A good chunk of these are still high-quality titles, and we’d love to see a few more of them make their way over.

Which Wii U-locked game would you like to see most? Feel free to let us know in the comments down below. 2024 is a quiet time for Nintendo fans so far, and it’s not so farfetched that we’ll see a Wii U port or two to fill up the gaps.
