Nanaimo COVID-19 testing and immunization clinics relocated

November 12, 2021.

Island Health is consolidating two clinics in Nanaimo that are critical in the fight against COVID-19.

The Beban Park COVID-19 immunization clinic and the Vancouver Island University testing and collection clinic are relocating to the Nanaimo North Town Centre at 4750 Rutherford Road . Both clinics will be in the same unit (Unit #114, former location of Urban Planet), but with a wall between them and separate entrances/exits to ensure everyone’s health and safety.

The COVID-19 testing and collection site opened at Nanaimo North Town Centre on Tuesday, November 9, and accepts appointments daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

As with all other Island Health testing and collection sites, COVID-19 testing is by appointment only. Drop-in testing is not available. Access is via the exterior of the mall.

The immunization clinic will begin operations in the new location on Tuesday, November 16 and is large enough to accommodate everyone who is eligible for vaccine, including younger patients in a comfortable, kid-friendly space. Appointments are recommended to ensure you don’t have to wait in line, and are required for booster doses.

Access to the immunization clinic will be from inside the mall. See our clinic listing for days and times of operation: https://covid19.islandclinics.ca . Book your appointment online at www.getvaccinated.gov.bc.ca , or by calling 1-833-838-2323.

Need a test?

To determine whether you require a COVID-19 test, please use the bc.thrive.health self-assessment tool. If testing is recommended, call: 1-844-901-8442 from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. daily, and expect to hear back from an Island Health representative within 24 hours to schedule a test.

At present, tests are being booked for the same-day or within 24 hours. Please have your personal health number (or your child’s) available when booking a test and when arriving at the collection site.

For information about self-isolation before and after testing, please visit the BCCDC website .

We would like to share our appreciation with Vancouver Island University and the City of Nanaimo for supporting Island Health’s pandemic response this past year, and we look forward to this new partnership with Nanaimo North Town Centre.

Vancouver Island's health authority is consolidating two COVID-19 clinics in Nanaimo, B.C.

Island Health says the Beban Park immunization clinic and the Vancouver Island University testing and collection clinic are relocating to the Nanaimo North Town Centre at 4750 Rutherford Road.

Both clinics will be housed in the former location of Urban Planet. However, the clinics will be separated by a wall, with separate entrances and exits for each unit.

The testing and collection site opened at the new location on Tuesday. It is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. but tests are available by appointment only.

The immunization clinic will begin operations in the new location on Nov. 16. Island Health says the new space is large enough to accommodate anyone who is eligible for a vaccine, including children.

Vaccine appointments are recommended to avoid wait times, and are mandatory for all booster doses.

Appointments can be made online or by calling 1-833-838-2323.

Travel vaccinations

Measles cases are increasing worldwide.

Before travelling, check that you and your family have received the recommended measles vaccinations.

Do not travel if you have symptoms of measles or have been in contact with someone with measles.

If you develop symptoms of measles after your return to Canada, call a health care provider right away.

Global Measles Notice

When travelling outside Canada, you may be at risk for a number of vaccine preventable illnesses.

You should consult a health care provider or visit a travel health clinic preferably six weeks before you travel. This is an opportunity to:

  • review your immunization history
  • make sure your provincial/territorial vaccination schedule is up-to-date
  • discuss any trip-related health concerns you may have
  • assess your needs based on where you plan to travel and what you plan to do

You may need additional vaccinations depending on your age, planned travel activities and local conditions. Preventing disease through vaccination is a lifelong process.

Use the reference below to determine which vaccinations may be recommended or required for your destination.

Vaccination recommendations by destination

Yellow fever vaccination.

Some countries require proof that you have received a yellow fever vaccination before allowing you to enter the country. Consult an embassy or consulate of your destination country in Canada for up-to-date information on its entry and exit requirements before you travel abroad.

Other countries may require you to have been vaccinated for yellow fever if you have passed through an area where yellow fever may occur .

Proof of vaccination must be documented on an International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis . You must carry the original certificate with you.

In Canada, the vaccination is only given at designated yellow fever vaccination centres .

Immunization records
