Turkey Visa for Tourists: A Complete Guide

Updated: October 19, 2023

Turkey visa on arrival image

Turkey has a liberal visa policy offering visa exemption and e-visas to many nationalities. A Turkey visa is also quite easy to obtain from the embassy or an authorized agent.

Turkey has introduced e-Visa to simplify its visa application process and replace its Visa on Arrival. Currently, 30 nationalities can obtain a Turkey e-Visa from the comfort of their homes. 21 nationalities can also obtain an e-Visa if holding a visa or residence permit from any Schengen country, US, UK or Ireland.

Many nationalities from the African continent that were previously eligible for e-Visas were unfortunately removed from that list recently. They will now have to apply for a Turkey visa through a Turkish mission or an agent.

Minimum passport validity to enter Turkey as a tourist

The passport validity is different for different nationalities. It also depends on whether you are visa-exempt or require a visa.

For nationalities that are visa-exempt, the minimum passport validity required is 60 days beyond your “allowed period of stay” in Turkey. For some, it’s 90 days.

For those who require an e-Visa, VOA or visa from the embassy, the minimum passport validity required is 6 months from the day of arrival. For some, it’s 3 months beyond the validity of their visas.

So in general, you will be fine with 6 months of validity remaining your passport at the time of entering Turkey.

Turkey transit visa requirements

Transit visas are NOT REQUIRED for transiting through Turkish international airports.

If you are not leaving the international transit area, then you do not require a transit visa. But if you have to leave the international transit area, or claim your bags, or change to a different airline, then you would require a transit visa.

Turkey visa requirements for cruise passengers

A Turkey visa is NOT REQUIRED for cruise passengers for up to 72 hours.

Cruise visitors are issued a Harbor City Entry Permit that’s valid for 72 hours and limited to the harbor city where the cruise arrived and its surroundings.

TURKEY VISA ON ARRIVAL

Turkey introduced its e-Visa system in 2013 with the intention of phasing out its Visa on Arrival. But VOA is still available and a few countries that are eligible for e-Visa are also eligible for obtaining VOA at international airports in Turkey.

Even though the e-Visa takes only a few minutes to apply, the VOA fee is considerably lower than the e-Visa fee for certain nationalities. It makes sense to simply get a VOA instead of an e-Visa if you are eligible and the fee is lower.

Validity of Turkey Visa on Arrival

Visa on Arrival is valid for 90 days, with multiple entries. Total stay cannot be more than 90 days in a 180-day period.

How long can you stay in Turkey with Visa on Arrival

Turkey Visa on Arrival is valid for 90 days. That means, if you continue to stay in Turkey after you have obtained your Visa on Arrival, you can stay up to 90 days. But if you leave and come back, you can only stay until your Visa on Arrival expiration date.

Also, your total stay in Turkey cannot exceed 90 days in any 180-day period.

  • Your arrival date in Turkey is March 10
  • You obtained VOA on March 10
  • Your visa is valid from 10 March 2022 to 08 June 2022 (90 days)
  • After 45 days, on 24 April 2022, you left Turkey.
  • You entered Turkey again on 19 May 2022 using your previous VOA. You can only stay till 08 June 2022, which is 21 days.

Visa on Arrival application process

The VOA process is quite quick at airports in Turkey. Right before the immigration or passport control, you will see a section called “Visa”. Stop by there and get your visa on arrival.

For obtaining VOA, all you need is your passport and visa on arrival fee in USD, EUR or GBP. Some nationalities require a passport-size photo.

Documents required

You must present the following documents.

  • Passport that’s valid for at least 6 months from the day of arrival in Turkey
  • Cash in USD, EUR or GBP for visa fee payment

The Visa on Arrival (VOA) fee starts from $30 and goes up all the way to $70 USD depending on nationality. Below is the Visa on Arrival fee for all eligible nationalities.

Processing time

It usually takes a few minutes for the Visa on Arrival process. But it depends on how busy the Visa on Arrival section is.

Possibly, it depends on your nationality and the purpose of your trip. Here’s what you need to consider:

  • Eligibility:  Visa on arrival is only available to citizens of specific countries, while the e-Visa program applies to a wider range of nationalities.
  • Convenience:  Obtaining a visa on arrival involves filling out forms and waiting in line at the immigration counter upon reaching Turkey. An e-Visa allows you to apply online beforehand, saving you time and hassle at the airport.
  • Uncertain Approval:  Turkish authorities might deny your visa on arrival application, which could lead to delays or even being turned away. An approved e-Visa guarantees your entry into Turkey.

What are the benefits of having a Turkey eVisa?

There are several benefits to having a Turkey eVisa, making your trip to Turkey much more convenient:

  • Duration of your stay: If your cruise ship visit lasts no more than 72 hours (3 days) and you stay within the city where the ship docks, you generally don’t require an eVisa.
  • Venturing beyond the port city: If you plan to explore beyond the port city limits or your stay exceeds 72 hours, you most likely will need a Turkey eVisa (or a regular visa if your nationality isn’t eligible for eVisas).

Should I obtain a visa if I already hold a resident permit in Turkey?

No, you generally don’t need to obtain a visa if you already hold a valid residence permit in Turkey.  A residence permit serves as your legal authorization to stay in Turkey, eliminating the need for an additional visa for most purposes.

Can I be denied entry into Turkey with an eVisa?

Yes, even with a valid eVisa, it is possible to be denied entry into Turkey.  Here are some reasons why this could happen:

  • Invalid Travel Documents: This includes having an eVisa that doesn’t exactly match your passport information (misspelled name, wrong date of birth, etc.), or a passport with insufficient validity (less than six (6) months remaining).
  • Security Concerns: If Turkish authorities have reason to believe you pose a security risk, they can deny entry. This could be based on a criminal record, suspected involvement in terrorism, or anything else raising red flags.
  • Health Concerns: If you appear to be sick or contagious upon arrival, immigration officials might deny entry to prevent the spread of illness.
  • Insufficient Funds: While there’s no set amount required, immigration officials might deny entry if you cannot demonstrate you have sufficient funds to support yourself during your stay in Turkey.
  • Inconsistencies with Application: If the information you provided in your eVisa application doesn’t match what you tell immigration officials upon arrival (different purpose of visit, longer stay planned than indicated, etc.), it could raise suspicions and lead to denial.
  • Violations on Previous Visits: If you violated Turkish immigration laws during a prior visit (overstaying your visa or working illegally), you might be denied entry.

  • Visa Exceptions: There are exceptions for some nationalities. Certain countries have visa-free entry to Turkey, meaning they can enter for a specific period with a valid passport.
  • eVisa as Alternative: For nationalities that require visas, a Turkey eVisa serves as a convenient alternative to a traditional visa obtained through embassies or consulates. It’s an electronic visa obtained online.

Turkish eVisas are designed for shorter stays, and unfortunately,  you cannot extend them once you’re in Turkey.

  • Depart and Re-apply: If you only need a slightly extended stay, say a few extra weeks, the most straightforward option is to depart Turkey before your eVisa expires and then re-apply for a new eVisa online at Visas for Future. There’s a processing fee associated with each application, so you’ll need to pay again. Ensure you factor in the 180-day rule ( 180-Day Rule: There’s a regulation limiting stays on eVisas to a total of 90 days within any 180-day period, starting from your first entry date into Turkey. This applies even if your eVisa itself has a longer validity period. Make sure you factor this rule into your re-entry plans if you choose to depart and re-apply for a new eVisa.)
  • Apply for Residence Permit: If you require a significantly longer stay exceeding 90 days, you cannot use the eVisa system. • Research Local Customs:  Familiarize yourself with basic Turkish greetings and customs to avoid any cultural faux pas.

At Arrival:

  • Have Your Documents Ready:  Keep your passport, eVisa (printed or digital copy), and completed arrival card (if provided) easily accessible for immigration checks.
  • Cash for Convenience:  Carry some Turkish Lira (TRY) in cash for taxis, buses, or small purchases as some places might not accept foreign currency directly. You can exchange currency at the airport or ATMs.

During Your Stay:

  • Respect Local Dress Code:  While Turkey is a modern country, dressing modestly, especially when visiting religious sites, is appreciated.
  • Bargaining is Expected:  In bazaars and some shops, expect a bit of friendly bargaining for goods. Research typical prices beforehand to have a baseline.
  • Tipping is Common:  While not mandatory, tipping waiters, taxi drivers, and service providers is customary. Small change is sufficient.
  • Public Transportation:  Istanbul has a good metro system and trams. Consider purchasing an Istanbulkart for discounted fares on public transportation.

Can I use my ID card as a substitute for a passport to enter Turkey?

No, you cannot use your ID card as a substitute for a passport to enter Turkey for most nationalities. Turkey generally requires a valid passport for entry.

There are a few exceptions:

  • Citizens of Specific Countries: Citizens of a small number of countries, including Germany and Greece, can enter Turkey using their national ID cards, but these must be the new-style cards with information in Latin characters.
  • Direct Flights from Specific Countries: In some cases, citizens of countries bordering Turkey might be allowed to enter with their ID cards if they are arriving on a direct flight from that country. However, this is not a guaranteed option and it’s best to confirm with the nearest Turkish embassy or consulate before relying on this method.

Is it necessary to take a vaccine before applying for a Turkey eVisa?

No, being vaccinated is not a mandatory requirement for applying for a Turkey eVisa itself. As of October 26, 2023, there is no requirement to show proof of vaccination for entry into Turkey.

Do I need a Turkey eVisa for filming documentaries, conducting research, or performing archaeological excavations?

A Turkey eVisa likely won’t be suitable for your purposes of filming documentaries, conducting research, or performing archaeological excavations in Turkey.

  • eVisa Limitations:   The eVisa is designed for tourism and short-term business visits.  Activities like filming documentaries, research, or archaeological excavations would likely require a different type of visa.

Turkish Tourist Visa Tips

Last Updated on May 2, 2019

Important Notes

• The rules below are for  tourist visas .  Click here  for info on visas for  work, study or residence  in Turkey .

• There are normally  two types of tourist visas . A  single-entry  (tek giriş)  visa  allows you to enter Turkey once. After you leave, no matter how long you’ve stayed in Turkey, you must pay for another visa to enter Turkey again.

A  multiple-entry  (müteaddit giriş)   visa  allows you to enter and leave Turkey multiple times within its period of validity (normally 30, 60, or 90 days) at no additional charge.

• You may obtain  e-visas  online  from an official  Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs website , paying by credit card. More…

Pursuant to Turkish government regulations instituted on January 12, 2012, “ 90-day tourist visa ” means that you can visit Turkey for up to 90 days  within any 180-day period . This means that, after staying in Turkey 90 days,  you cannot simply cross the border into another country, stay outside of Turkey for a day or two, then re-enter Turkey on a new 90-day tourist visa . Instead, you must apply in advance at a Turkish consulate for a  residence visa  and, when you arrive in Turkey, you must apply for a  residence permit   (İkamet Tezkeresi).

If you’re coming to Turkey for a short tour of, say, a few weeks, and not returning to Turkey in the near future, this restriction would not affect you. But if you come to Turkey for long periods (several months) frequently, you may be affected.

The regulations are meant to restrict foreigners who are, in effect, living in Turkey for part of the year but have not applied for a residence permit as required. Waivers are granted to certain groups, such as retirees who spend part of the year in Turkey, or foreigners who own property in Turkey and come to live for part of each year.

Official Passports

The term “ official passports ” covers diplomatic, service, special and official passports. You probably have an “ordinary” passport unless you’re going to Turkey on diplomatic, military or other official business. Visa rules for official passports may differ from those for ordinary passports.

Apply for Your Visa in Advance!

All foreigners who need visas may apply for them to  Turkish diplomatic missions . If you do this, apply at least a month before your departure date for Turkey. But if you’re a citizen of one of those countries allowed to  get a visa online in advance , why spend time filling out paper forms months in advance?  More…

Visas for Filmmakers & Researchers

Foreigners who intend to  shoot documentary films , to  conduct research , or to do  archeological excavation , should apply for special permission in advance from the Turkish authorities.

Visas for Truck Drivers

Visa requirements for  truck drivers  may be different. Contact a  Turkish consulate .

Questions & Comments

You can send comments and questions to the Visa section of Turkey’s  Ministry of Foreign Affairs  at  [email protected]  . (I cannot help you with questions on official visa matters—I am not a Turkish diplomat!)

How long can I stay with a Tourist Visa in Turkey

How Long Can I Stay in Turkey with a Tourist Visa?

The length of time you can stay in Turkey depends on the citizenship on your passport. It can vary between 30 and 90 days .

Citizens from most European countries are able to travel without a visa for visits of up to 90 days within a 180-day period .

This means that a maximum of 180 days is possible in one year.

Note that  visa runs are no longer possible  to renew your tourist visa. Therefore, leaving Turkey and reentering does not reset the 90 days within the 180 day limit.

Most tourists are granted a "multiple-entry visa", which allows them to enter and leave the country as long as their visa is valid. There are also "single entry visas ", which allow only one entry to the country.

Travelers who want to stay longer than 90 days can apply for a “ Short Term Residence Permi t ” at the Local Immigration Offices (Provincial Directorate of Migration Administration).

Please note, if you stay longer than your tourist visa allows, you risk a fine and deportation .

Visa upon arrival:

Some citizens may obtain a  visa upon arrival at a Turkish airport .  However, tourists who need a visa are strongly advised to apply for an e-visa before their trip, as there are fewer and fewer Turkish airports with visa application centers.

In addition, the fees charged by the official e-Visa website are lower than the fees for visas obtained upon arrival at Turkish airports.

See if you can obtain a visa on arrival.

Turkish Embassy or Consulate:

You can also contact the Turkish Embassy or Consulate in your country to obtain a Turkish visa.

For this type of application, it is best to start applying at least one month before the date of travel and already have all the necessary documents prepared.

When entering Turkey by car, in addition to the travel documents already mentioned (passport or ID card, visa if necessary), you must also present these documents at the Turkish land border:

  •  International driving license
  •  License documents for the vehicle
  •  International Green Card and insurance to travel on Turkish roads
  •  Power of attorney (if the vehicle belongs to someone else)

Car Insurance: Please note that the Green Card insurance is usually valid only up to the Bosphorus.

Health Insurance in Turkey

Health Insurance in Turkey

It's highly recommended to get travel insurance or international health insurance  before traveling to Turkey.

In the event you need emergency medical treatment, as a tourist, you are more likely to be admitted to a private clinic due to the higher standards.

New Thailand Visa Exemption and Thailand Visa on Arrival Schemes

Legal Advisor

As of July 15, 2024, the new regulations surrounding the Thailand Visa on Arrival program and the Thailand visa exemption scheme announced earlier in the year are now in full effect. These rule updates will allow more people than ever before to visit Thailand without first having to apply for a visa at the embassy in their home country. This further supports the Thai government’s plan to increase the number of foreign tourists to 40 million by the end of the year.

This post will break down the updates to both the visa exemption and VOA programs, explain how visitors can take advantage, and list the eligible countries.

Thailand Visa on Arrival

To boost efforts to increase tourism in the country, the Thai government has made citizens from 31 countries eligible to acquire a single-entry visa after arriving in Thailand at certain immigration checkpoints (such as Thai international airports). This is a significant increase from the previous list of only 19 countries.

For only 2,000 baht, visitors will be allowed to stay in Thailand for no more than 15 days and take part in any activity allowed by the standard Thailand Tourist Visa . Unlike visa exemptions which we will get into below, the Visa on Arrival Thailand cannot be extended except in rare cases, such as an illness that prevents travel.

The following countries are eligible for the VOA program:

  • Africa: Ethiopia, Namibia, Seychelles, Tunisia
  • Asia: Armenia, Bhutan, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Taiwan, Uzbekistan
  • Central America: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Mexico
  • Europe: Belarus, Bulgaria, Georgia, Malta, Romania, Russia, Serbia
  • Middle East: Cyprus, Saudi Arabia
  • Oceania: Fiji, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu
  • South America: Bolivia, Paraguay, Venezuela

Those seeking a Thailand Visa on Arrival will need to submit the following documentation at the immigration checkpoint:

  • The relevant completed application form (this can be acquired at the port of entry)*
  • Valid passport with no less than a month’s validity remaining
  • Recent passport-sized photograph (taken within the last 6 months)
  • A return travel ticket (as proof you will not stay longer than 15 days in Thailand)
  • Proof of temporary accommodation in Thailand (such as a hotel itinerary)
  • Evidence of sufficient funds (10,000 Baht for individuals, 20,000 Baht for families)

*The application form can also be completed online on the Thai Immigration Bureau’s website

Visa Exemption in Thailand

This immigration rule update also increased the number of countries approved for visa exemption from 57 to 93. Citizens of these countries will now be able to stay in Thailand for up to 60 days (an increase from the old 30-day rule) without requiring a visa. Nationals from authorized countries can simply travel to Thailand and will receive a “visa exempt” stamp in their passport from Thai immigration, which acts as a travel document.

The 60-day stay can also be extended for another 30 days (at the discretion of Thai Immigration) enabling foreigners to reside for a total of 90 days. This must be done in person at Thai Immigration and will require a small fee.

Before the 90-day deadline, Thai visa-exempt travelers also have the option of applying for a new visa to let them stay in Thailand even longer. During their stay, foreign nationals are also permitted to seek urgent or ad-hoc work in the country as well as engage with tourist businesses.

The 93 countries eligible for the visa exemption scheme include:

  • Africa: Mauritius, Morocco, South Africa
  • Americas: Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Peru , Trinidad and Tobago, United States, Uruguay
  • East/Central Asia: Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Laos, Macao, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam
  • Europe : Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia , San Marino , Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom
  • Middle East: Bahrain, Cyprus, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, United Arab Emirates
  • Oceania: Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Tonga

In addition, 3 countries have entered into bilateral agreements with Thailand, allowing foreign nationals to enter under the Thailand visa exemption status at international airports only:

To enter the Kingdom under the Thailand visa exemption scheme, a passport is usually the only document required. However, the border agent may request additional information that must be provided to secure entry. These documents include:

  • A return travel ticket
  • Proof of sufficient financials (10,000 THB per person, or 20,000 THB per family)
  • Proof of temporary accommodation in the country (e.g., hotel booking itinerary)

UAE residents face Schengen visa delays and shorter stays amid summer demand

S ome UAE residents have experienced a Schengen visa application lottery while planning summer trips to Europe, after securing only short-term visits while colleagues and family were permitted extended stays.

Travellers have spoken of their frustration at receiving limited permits for work trips and holidays, despite presenting all required documentation and encountering lengthy delays to even get initial visa appointments.

The challenges come amid a surge in demand for travel to Europe, in a summer featuring the Euro 2024 football tournament and the coming Paris Olympics.

Feeling shortchanged

Dubai resident and Indian passport holder Siddarth Sivaprakash, who has received five Schengen visas previously, got a Schengen visa with a 10-day validity this year to attend the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in June.

Mr Sivaprakash “submitted all the required documents – bank statements, investment documents, NOC from the company”, but the visa matched his 10-day travel itinerary, while his colleague got a two-year visa.

"It’s difficult, and challenging to understand the decision-making behind this. I spent so much money and effort, but to end up with just 10 days," he added.

The Schengen visa allows entry to 29 European countries - most of which are in the European Union - to non EU-nationals for visits of up to 90 days or multiple visits over a longer duration.

While Emiratis do not need a visa to visit Schengen countries under a UAE-EU agreement, expat residents must still apply.

The non-refundable visa fee of €80 (Dh320.6) poses a significant financial burden for tourists.

Holiday plans shelved

Pakistani passport holder and Dubai resident Sadiq Saleem said he was forced to cancel a European holiday with his parents after he was issued a Schengen visa for 11 days.

"While it added two extra days to our 9-day travel itinerary for the Netherlands, it didn't offer us flexibility," he said.

"We missed out on blocking seats with our tour operator and didn't have enough validity to make changes to our holiday plans."

Mr Saleem, who has had previous Schengen visas, said the process needs to be streamlined. "For short-term visas with 10-day validity, they should offer an e-visa option."

Another Dubai expat and Indian passport holder, NM, who asked for his full name not to be used, also faced similar issues when he planned a family holiday to Europe.

“While my wife and daughter got multiple-entry visas for six months, I got a single-entry visa for the exact 10 days we had listed in our itinerary.”

He has travelled to Europe several times before and his last Schengen visa was multiple-entry with a two-year validity.

Apart from the short validity, Dubai expat Abhishek Nair also faced visa processing delays.

He and his family had to wait for nearly a month to find out they got a visa for seven days.

“We had applied to the Netherlands. It took nearly four weeks for them to give us a visa that’s valid for a week, even though we presented two travel itineraries, one in January and the other in September,” said Mr Nair, who went to a Swiss university.

Syrian passport-holder and UAE resident DA said she had resisted applying for a Schengen visa until now because of the “fear of rejection”.

Her fears, unfortunately, came true after her Schengen visa application at the Spanish embassy was rejected.

She has travelled to New Zealand, US, Turkey, Lebanon and Egypt in the past.

She appealed to the Spanish embassy, because her sister, who had gone through a similar ordeal, got her visa approved after doing so.

“I got a visa for six days – the exact dates of my travel itinerary,” she said, adding that she will have to apply again for her next summer travel, but securing a date will be challenging.

Travel woes

Sana Ahmed, who holds a Pakistan passport and has lived in Dubai for 11 years, said she has struggled to get longer duration on Schengen visas despite providing all the documents and boasting a good travel track record.

"I had requested for a longer validity this year because we've got a few holidays planned, but I got only 6 months.

"I'm in London now, but when I return I have another visa appointment scheduled for August."

She says the visa ordeal makes it tough for her to travel with her husband and child, who are both British passport holders.

“For every Schengen I’ve ever applied for, I’ve only received the visa for the length of the trip,” said Roxy Kairuz, a Dubai resident and South African passport holder.

“My latest Schengen only – through France – has been the only one that I’ve gotten that is longer than the trip applied for – at six months.”

Another Dubai expat and Indian passport holder, PA, said the discrepancy in how the visa validity is determined makes the ordeal frustrating.

“After having travelled every year to different parts of the world, and having a valid 10-year UK and US visa, there’s still no guarantee that I’ll get a longer validity on my Schengen visa.

“This makes it tough to plan holidays to Europe.”

VFS Global, which facilitates the Schengen visa process in the UAE, said it was not responsible for the validity period on visas granted to travellers.

"VFS Global has no visibility in the decision-making process, timelines and outcome of decision," said Monaz Billimoria, Regional Head of VFS Global.

Recently, the European Union announced that Indian citizens can be issued long-term, multi-entry visas valid for five years "after having obtained and lawfully used two visas within the previous three years".

Counting the cost

A recent Schengen Visa report issued by SchengenVisaI Info, an online portal tracking yearly visa application statistics, said that UAE applicants faced a loss of €4.19 million (Dh16.83 million) in 2023 due to rejected Schengen visa applications.

The study states they spent €18.71 (AED 75.02 million) on Schengen visa applications the same year.

Due to the high volume of applications, the waiting time for a Schengen visa appointment can range from weeks to months.

VFS Global urged travellers to start planning their holiday months "as early as possible" because "there's a higher demand this year".

Rishal Mohammed, executive director of travel agency TravelShop in Dubai, said summer months are traditionally busy.

"If anyone wants to travel in summer they must plan at least three to four months in advance. Even when we approach individual embassies they've told us that other than business or medical reasons, no dates will be available for tourism," he said.

Mr Mohammed added that dates are opening up now for end of August, September and October, allowing travellers to plan for UAE National Day holidays or winter break.

Multi-entry visa must for Omani road travellers to Turkey via Iraq

Observer Web Team

Muscat: The Embassy of Oman in Iraq announced on Monday that all Omani citizens traveling by land to Turkey via Iraq must obtain a multiple-entry visa for Iraq.

In an online statement, the embassy urged Omani tourists to obtain a multi-entry visa when traveling to Turkey through Iraq by car. They can get this visa either upon arrival at the border crossings or through their respective embassies in these countries, allowing them to re-enter Iraq after returning from Turkey.

According to the embassy, travelers from Turkey must hold two types of visas:

The first is a pre-obtained Iraqi visa, typically stamped or added to their passport before entry.

The second can be obtained upon entering Iraqi Kurdistan as travellers can get a visa through the border crossings between Kurdistan and Turkey or electronically via the Kurdistan E-Visa portal.
