Frequently Asked Questions about 4 Day 3 Night Rock to Rock Camping Tour Expand all

I have a flight out of Ayers Rock (Uluru) at 9:40am, will I make it to the airport in time?

Yes! Mulgas Adventures will ensure that you will be dropped at the airport in time.  Please advise your guide if you have an early departure flight from Ayers Rock (Uluru Airport)

What is a swag?

A swag is made out of heavy duty canvas, sewn into a cocoon-like bag providing warmth, comfort and security - the ultimate of all bush beds! They have a 2-inch thick comfy mattress. You sleep inside your sleeping bag inside your swag so your body heat is trapped inside your sleeping bag and swag. A lot warmer than a tent!

How cold does it get at night?

In winter temperatures can drop to 0ºC. In summer it is usually around 20ºC. Please check weather forecasts before the tour so you can bring appropriate clothing for the conditions.

What should I bring?

  • Water Bottles (enough to carry 2L)
  • Hat (fits well for windy places)
  • Walking Shoes (properly fitting for walks on terrain)
  • Swimwear (for the summer)
  • Towel (works as a rug on the sand too)
  • Small Carry Bag (otherwise several more hands)
  • Toiletries (you decide, remember Less is More)
  • Sleeping Bag (required, can be hired)
  • Camera (some passengers ask their group to share theirs)
  • Insect Repellent (including Fly Nets)
  • Warm clothes (desert nights can get very cold)
  • Pillow (or improvise, like roll up a jumper)

Sleeping Bags can be hired for $30

How much water do I need to bring?

You need to bring at least 2 litres of water (3 litres in the hotter months). You can refill your bottle as we go from place to place.

How many people are on my tour?

We have a maximum of 24 on a tour. Our buses have 21 or 24 seats.

Do you cater for dietary needs?

We can cater for vegetarians, vegans, gluten free and lactose intolerant passengers. Please understand we are on a camping tour so the food you may usually have may not be readily available. Please contact us when booking if you have any specific dietary needs.

Are there many flies out there?

In summer there can be many flies. It is advised that you purchase a fly net if you don’t like them.

How fit do I need to be for the hikes?

We plan to complete a decent hike each day during our Tours. Each location has options, which your guide is ready to recommend based on your fitness and energy levels on that day.

Day 1: Uluru

Iconic walks ranging up to 9.4kms around the full base. Shorter walks include ‘Kantju Gorge’ and ‘Mutitjulu Waterhole’.

Day 2: Kata Tjuta

Famous ‘Valley of the Winds’ walk through the domes, moderate difficulty depending on conditions. Quicker alternative is the ‘Walpa Gorge’ walk.

Day 3: Kings Canyon

Spectacular ‘Kings Canyon Rim Walk’, with relaxed options including ‘Kings Creek Walk’ and “South Wall Walk’.

You Guide is there to make sure you get the best from your Outback Adventure. Make sure you chat with them, ask about your options at each Hike location, they will enjoy describing different options, as well as helping you make your choice!

Can you start this tour in Alice Springs?

Yes you can.  You will need to arrive in Alice Springs at least the night prior as the tour departs Alice Springs on day 1 at 6am

What optional extras are there?

Sleeping Bag ($30AUD for duration of the tour)

Optional camel ride at Uluru

Optional Helicopter Ride at Kings Creek Station

Are there hot showers & electricity at the camps?

There are hot showers and electricity on the first two nights, but the final night is in a remote location with only toilets. We recommend bringing a power bank along on the tour to avoid running out of battery.

What food can I expect on a Mulgas tour?

You’ll love the Tour Food available. Mulgas has a reputation for good wholesome tour food, full of protein, flavour and goodness.

What’s on the menu.

The menu options are the result of welcomed feedback from passengers, as well as many years of experience in the Outback.

Great value tour packed with lots of brilliant activities.

I had a great trip with Mulgas to Uluru, Kata Tuja and Kings Canyon. Our guides Lee Lee and Liv where very fun, friendly and informative. I would highly recommend going on this trip.

Amazing tour!! CJ and Leelee were such great guides, so knowledgeable and fun. Would 100% recommend this tour, one of the highlights of my time in Australia so far!

Es war ein wunderschönes Erlebnis! Alles war top Organisiert und das Essen auch für Vegetarier war perfekt. Danke Phil

The guide is really good! Alex is really nice! I have a wonderful weekend.

I can definitely recommend the tour. It was a lot of fun. It was so nice to sleep under the stars and to see the sunrise and sunset every day. We visited so beautiful places and have learned new things.

The most incredible experience I’ve ever experienced. If you are thinking on do this, please I can’t recommended more. You will never regretted it. Special gratitude to Simon, our guide. He was the best!

The tour was awesome. We saw lots of great things and did great hikes. Simon, the tour guide, was great and really funny. He gave us lots of amazing information and made sure that the trip was a great experience. Uluru was breathtaking. I loved it and would definitely recommend the tour. The food was great and there was enough for everyone. Sleeping under the stars was also great and not too cold in the middle of February. I would rather recommend flying to Uluru Airport. At least Simon picked everyone up one by one after a delay. The journey from Alice Springs takes a long time and you don't see anything really special on the way.

Had a really good time with the Mulgas tour despite the heat in the Outback. Definitely a must-do when you want to visit Uluru and the Outback in a few days!

Best experience and one of the best trip so far. The tour was definitely one of my highlights in Australia. The guide has a lot of knowledge and details. Sleeping under the star was absolutely magic. Super super hot day but aI had a good time in there :) really recommend this!

Known traditionally as Angkerle Atwatye, meaning “Gap of Water”, Standley Chasm is a 3-metre-wide, 80-metre-high gorge amongst the West MacDonnell Ranges. At dawn, we hope to spot the native wildlife as we enjoy breakfast and look forward to the day ahead. Tracking west you are welcome to enjoy a dip in Ellery Creek Bighole, known traditionally as Udepata, surrounded by tall red cliffs and sandy Ellery Creek. Onwards to where massive geological forces created the towering red walls of Ormiston Gorge. Spend time here admiring nature and its finest before we begin our leisurely journey back towards Alice Springs, with our final stop at another amazing feature of the Tjoritja West MacDonnell region, Simpsons Gap, where several dreaming trails and stories cross. Featuring a permanent waterhole this is also a great place to spot resident wildlife. Now we’ve had our fix of the best of central Australia’s natural icons, we deliver you back to Alice Springs to your chosen accommodation and evening plans as you reminisce your four days of exploration and new friends made.

We will be staying close to Red Square and we have an interest in Russion culture and history, but would also like to see some interesting places that are not normally part of the usual tourist destinations, if possible. We do not speak any Russian.

We would be very grateful if someone could give us some ideas for our time in Moscow.

All sorts of walks taking in all sorts of places, both on and off the beaten track. She seems to have rearranged her website and I'm having trouble navigating through it and downloading pages but it could just be my ageing computer, so try your luck and see how you go. (More likely the redesign is a ruse to encourage you to buy her books!)

uluru camping tour 4 days

At the end of the day, one of my favorite things to do is simply walk around and take in the architecture and people, and one of my favorite ways to do this is follow the Boulevard Ring, starting ideally at the Church of the Savior with its own beauty and the wonderful footbridge crossing the Moscow River.

From my trip, the off the beaten path was VDNKh.

Since you aren't going until June, I'd strongly recommend learning some Russian and especially learn the alphabet.

The Bolshoi will be closed for the season so this simplifies your planning somewhat.

When it comes to accommodation it's the more central the better (and more expensive unsurprisingly).

uluru camping tour 4 days

we came back late July.

St Petersberg we had 3 days from a cruise ship but I was very glad we spent the extra on a private guide as queuing is non existent and for example the queue for the Hermitage at 9.30am was almost 300m long. Similar at Catherines palace. I used SPB as they were recommended to me by someone else. I'd see if they do pick ups from hotels

Visas were our biggest hassle. You'll need to either use and agent (fees) or you can get letters of offer from your accom (which was free). Being in Melbourne you'll need to post yours i think.

Thank you Vladchan and GurusW for your help and prompt reples to the above questions ..... Geonoel
