Get ready to feel small indeed. Northern Tanzania is wilderness on a mind-blowing scale: big skies, big herds, big mountains, Big Five, big drama. This is where you’ll find the country’s finest safari spots and most striking terrain.

Northern Tanzania’s wilderness goes on forever, an untamed eternity on an enormous scale. It’s home to the continent’s highest mountain, the planet’s largest intact caldera, unfathomable numbers of animals, vast golden plains, truly enormous skies. This is bowl-you-over country: big, bewitching, breathtaking at every turn.

Tanzania’s finest safari spots are clustered here, and we’ll fly you effortlessly between them, to reveal the regions full diversity, depth and drama. We’ll take you to the treetops of Tarangire, where bedrooms balance amid the baobabs and the country’s biggest concentration of elephants roams. We’ll drop you down into Ngorongoro Crater, the UNESCO-listed basin brim-full of wildlife. And we’ll sweep you straight onto the boundless Serengeti, so you’ve got front-row seats for the wildest show on earth.

We’ve planned our meticulous luxury safaris in Tanzania to maximise your immersion in the African bush (with plenty of lovely surprises along the way). You’ll be treated like a VIP from start to finish: we’ll fast-track you through airports, drive you directly onto runways, whisk you away in our private plane, serve you champagne and nibbles – Then we’ll deliver you into the heart of the wilderness to be pampered at the finest camps and have your eyes opened by the very best guides.

Know that you’ll be treading lightly, too: each of our trips contributes to Land & Life, a foundation committed to a sustainable future that sees local communities benefit from tourism, safeguarding nature for the next generation.

So fly with us for less time travelling, more time doing. No minute is wasted. Which leaves more opportunity for game drives and bike rides, for sundowners and stargazing, for campfires, bush walks, birdsong and the Big Five. For feeling Africa seep into your soul.

They invited friends and embarked from South Africa on an epic personal flying safari home to Kenya, following a route not often flown, up the east coast of Africa. The fun and breathtaking low flying experience of land, sea and sky were too spectacular not to share. Scenic Air was born with the sole intent of sharing such magical experiences with a wider audience. Twelve years later, we continue to pioneer unique routes, locations, and life changing experiences. Come and join us, and let’s explore together.

Baraza Resort and Spa

Tanzania is located in East Africa and is home to some of Africa’s most pristine wildlife sanctuaries, the second highest mountain in the world - Kilimanjaro, a massive volcanic crater, and gorgeous white sand beaches with warm turquoise waters. The plains of the Serengeti National Park offer an exhilarating safari experience with phenomenal game viewing opportunities which includes the “Great Mammal Migration” and the famous “Big Five” (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino), whilst the tropical island of Zanzibar is a marine wonderland with its untouched coral reefs and gorgeous climate. Tanzania has a strong cultural heritage and offers visitors the rare opportunity in northern Tanzania of meeting with the fascinating Maasai people who have a great understanding of how to live in semi-arid and arid lands.

The question of when is the best time to visit Tanzania is best determined by what you wish to experience.

Tanzania has a temperate climate with relatively comfortable temperatures all year round. The main variation to the impact of the temperature is the humidity and annual rains.

Traditionally, the annual rainfall arrives around the beginning of April and continues until the end of June. The second, slightly less strong, rainy period, is from the beginning of November (around 2 weeks later on Zanzibar) to the middle of December, roughly speaking.

Although the Serengeti offers fantastic game viewing all year round, there are particular months that are deemed as the best time to visit the park. The dry season months of June through October are the most popular time of the year for a safari in Tanzania, with animals congregating near water sources and the vegetation thining; improving the visibility of animals. If you aspire to see the annual Mammal Migration , then it is best to travel during the months of June and July . In the months of December to March , the migration herds are located down in the very southern region of the park. April and May is a good time to book a safari in the northern parks of Tanzania, as the game is still good, crowds are minimal, and the prices are at the lowest of the year.

The best time to visit Zanzibar is from June to October during the cool, dry months of spring. Another popular time to visit this tropical island is from December to February when it’s hot and dry. The ocean temperatures are perfect for swimming, diving or snorkeling expeditions.

Mount Kilimanjaro is best climbed either between July and October or January to March .

Tanzania is a country located in East Africa and is renowned for its vast wilderness areas.

The plains of the Serengeti National Park offer an exhilarating safari experience with phenomenal game viewing opportunities which includes the “Great Mammal Migration” and the notorious “Big Five” (elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino), whilst Kilimanjaro National Park is home to Africa’s highest mountain. Offshore lie the tropical islands of Zanzibar, with Arabic influences, and a marine park which is home to whale sharks and beautiful coral reefs.

Also on the coast is the bustling city of Dar es Salaam, where Swahili culture meets a modern tropical metropolis. In the north, Olduvai Gorge is one of the most important paleoanthropological sites in the world; an asset in understanding early human evolution. Olduvai is next to Ngorongoro Crater, a massive volcanic valley that’s a major wildlife conservation and safari area, inhabited by the indigenous Maasai, who still pursue traditional tribal practices. Lake Tanganyika is the location of Jane Goodall’s primate research center, where visitors can track chimpanzees along the shoreline.

Serengeti National Park

Located in northern Tanzania, this World Heritage Site and most celebrated wilderness area known as the Serengeti is a photographer and filmmakers dream, especially during the massive annual migration of wildebeest, zebra and gazelle. The crocodile infested Grumeti River is a top attraction during this remarkable event; with hungry Nile crocodiles awaiting their opportunity to strike as the herds frantically cross the river. The reserve has an abundance of wildlife with the numbers estimated to be well over 3 million. There is even an active volcano within the Serengeti National Park;  the only volcano to eject carbonatite lavas that turn white when exposed to air.

Ngorongoro Conservation Area

The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is a protected area and a World Heritage Site located 180 km (110 miles) west of Arusha in the Crater Highlands area of Tanzania. The area is named after Ngorongoro Crater, a large volcanic caldera within the area. The crater is 610 meters (2,000 feet) deep and its floor covers 260 square kilometers (100 square miles). Approximately 25,000 large animals, including the Big 5, live in the crater. The crater also has one of the densest known population of East African lions which are particularly strong in the Ndutu Lake area. It is important to note however that the Ngorongoro Crater does get very busy so we do recommend a two-night stay here.

Tarangire National Park

Often regarded as Tanzania’s most underrated national park, Tarangire is a must on a northern circuit itinerary. It is Africa’s best-kept secret, boasting a variety of wildlife and diverse landscapes. The name originates from the Tarangire River that crosses the park. The river is the primary source of freshwater for wild animals in the Tarangire ecosystem during the annual dry season (July to October). Visitors to the park in the dry season can expect to see large herds of thousands of zebra, wildebeest and cape buffalo. Tarangire is notorious for its large elephant population - the largest in Tanzania. During the dry season, herds of up to 300 elephants can be seen digging in the dry riverbed of the Tarangire River looking for underground streams.

Boasting some of the finest tropical beaches in Africa, as well as world-class scuba-diving sites, we rate Zanzibar as an ideal destination for travelers seeking a blissful, barefoot-luxury holiday. Whether you want to spend your days relaxing on a tropical beach, exploring the cultural attractions of Stone Town, or enjoying the many water sports on offer, this island has something for every traveler.

Lake Manyara National Park

Lake Manyara National Park is a smaller park located both in Arusha Region and Manyara Region of Tanzania. The park is strikingly diverse with barren lands, forest, and a salt lake. Lake Manyara National Park is renowned for the flamingos that inhabit the lake. During the wet season, they can be found at the edges of the lake in flocks of thousands but they are not so present during the dry season. More than 400 species of birds inhabit the park making this the ideal location for bird watching. Leopards, East African lions, cheetahs, elephants, hippopotami, several antelope and many more wild animals inhabit this park and many can be seen throughout the year.

Located below Mount Meru in northern Tanzania, the charming city of Arusha is a gateway to the Serengeti National Park, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Lake Manyara National Park, Olduvai Gorge, Tarangire National Park, Mount Kilimanjaro, and Arusha National Park on Mount Meru. As it rests at the base of the twin peaks, Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro, the city serves as an ideal base for hikers eager to conquer Africa’s highest mountain. Arusha is known for its vibrant nightlife, Masai Market, National Natural History Museum, and traditional Tanzanian cuisine.

Mount Meru is the fifth highest mountain in Africa and second highest in Tanzania, standing at 4 566 meters. The dormant stratovolcano is located 70 kilometers west of Mount Kilimanjaro and is often considered by hikers as a warm-up trek for Kilimanjaro. The fertile slopes rise above the surrounding savanna and support a forest that hosts diverse wildlife, including nearly 400 species of birds, as well as monkeys, giraffe, bushbuck and leopards.

Kilimanjaro National Park

Kilimanjaro National Park covers an area of 186 749 acres, protecting the largest free-standing volcanic mass in the world and the highest mountain in Africa, with its peak at 5 895 meters. The mountain is encircled by mountain forest. Numerous mammals, many of them endangered species, live in the park. Climbing Kilimanjaro is a lifelong dream for many, with an estimated 25 000 people attempting the climb each year. In the lower-lying areas such as the forest zone there are a multitude of birds, blue monkeys, colobus monkeys and olive baboons. Civets, leopards, mongooses, elephants and Abbott’s duikers also live in the mountain’s forest, but sightings are extremely rare. The alpine and arctic zones are too harsh for any animals to survive comfortably.

Dar es Salaam

Dar es Salaam, meaning “haven of peace” is Tanzania’s largest and busiest port city.

Loved amongst travelers for its seaside setting and eclectic vibe, Dar es Salaam bustles with fish markets, dhow boats, museums and striking architecture. Dar es Salaam is a diverse city with a mix of African, Arabic, and Indian cultures. Popular day trips include the beautiful Mbudya Island where you can bask on the island's white-sand beaches, snorkel, and swim in the turquoise waters. Bongoyo Island is a much-loved island getaway, lying off the Msasani Peninsula, about four miles north of the city. Located about six kilometers north of the city on the Msasani Peninsula, is the popular Coco Beach, where you can savor street food and listen to live music. The Oyster Bay Shopping Center here is a popular attraction, with farmers markets, art galleries, and boutique shops.

Lake Tanganyika

Lake Tanganyika is an African Great Lake and the second oldest freshwater lake in the world. Lake Tanganyika is home to Nile crocodiles, various turtle species, the Storms water cobra, and more than 80 species of non-cichlid fish of which about 60% of these are endemic. Most visitors choose to base themselves in the lovely lakeside town of Kigoma which serves as a gateway to the two rainforest reserves bordering the lake: Mahale Mountains National Park and Gombe Stream National Park, both of which offer unforgettable up-close chimpanzee encounters and an astonishing variety of birdlife.

Pascal is a travel angel! Highly recommend him.
We started planning for our safari trip contacting a bunch of different travel advisors but Pascal's service truly stood out to us as the best in the industry. He took care of planning everything from start to finish for our very last minute honeymoon trip (literally a month out and during the busiest safari season). He is extremely meticulous and very responsive to our 100 questions. He shared first hand experiences at each of the different lodges, personal pictures and gave us solid recommendations within our budget. He hopped on a call with us initially to explain all the differences to us first time safari goers, and continued to be very flexible and patient with us as we couldn't decide! We are very excited for our trip and cannot thank Pascal enough for being our first interaction on our upcoming trip.

Safari Air Link

The Swahili Coast

The Swahili Coast offers the traveller an opportunity to relax in style and soak up local culture.

The spice islands of Pemba, Mafia and Zanzibar offer a uniquely East African experience  - from the winding, narrow streets of Stone Town to the many world-class beaches the region offers. The Zanzibar Archipelago is the quintessentially exotic destination.

On the mainland, destinations such as: Ras Kutani, Saadani National Park, the former Imperial German Capital of Bagamoyo and the modern day Swahili mega-city of Dar es Salaam provide a different perspective to the traveller.

We fly daily in both the morning and afternoon to all the Swahili Coast destinations with convenient onward connections for all the major airlines out of Dar and onward to the Southern and Northern National Parks.

An African sunset over the Rufiji River, Tanzania's largest river.

Nyerere National Park (Selous)

Nyerere National Park is Tanzania’s largest, recently transformed from The Selous Game Reserve, named after the pioneer conservationist Sir Frederick Selous. This is a prime safari destination for the savvy traveller.

Located in the much less frequented Southern half of Tanzania you are more likely to encounter huge herds of animals than huge hordes of game vehicles.

Nyerere National Park is home to several world-class lodges and safari camps, many of which are based along The Rufiji River.

We fly daily in both the morning and afternoon to all the Selous airstrips with convenient onward connections for all the major airlines out of Dar es Salaam and onward to the Southern and Northern National Parks.

An elephant and its calf at Ruaha National Park, Tanzania

Ruaha National Park

Ruaha National Park is Tanzania's second largest national park and a famous wilderness of central Tanzania.

With only a very few lodges, but largest park area of 45,000 sq. km, the diversity of wildlife available to the visitor is impressive.

The stunning Great Ruaha River meanders through the national park with some lodges sited alongside it. Others enjoy spectacular locations in the heart of the African bush.

We fly daily to Ruaha National Park with convenient onward connections for all the major airlines out of Dar and onward to the Southern and Northern National Parks, as well as the Swahili Coast.

Guests enjoying the beautiful views of Mikumi National Park, while staying at Stanley's Kopje

Mikumi National Park

Nestled between the Udzungwa & Uluguru Mountains, Mikumi National Park borders the Nyerere National Park, however a maintains a completely different experience.

Mikumi famously lies on the route used by Sir Henry Morton Stanley when he set out to find Dr. Livingstone.

Mikumi is home to a number of luxury tented camps and safari lodges. As part of the Nyerere National Park ecosystem, it benefits from the highest game density of the entire conservation area.

We fly daily to Mikumi National Park with convenient onward connections for all the major airlines out of Dar and onward to the Southern and Northern National Parks or the Swahili Coast.

Hippos leaving the hippo pool in Katavi National Park

Katavi National Park

Katavi National Park is raw, remote and little known. The immense concentration of game, especially as the seasonal lakes disappear, will astound even hardened safari goers.

Served by us twice a week, on Monday and Thursday, we are the only operator to operate a scheduled service into Katavi most of the year round.

We fly twice weekly from Ruaha to Katavi on a Monday and Thursday, with convenient onward connections for all the major airlines out of Dar es Salaam and onwards to the Southern and Northern National Parks and Swahili Coast.

A chimpanzee at Mahale Mountains National Park

Mahale National Park

The Mahale Mountains is the furthest of the national parks and lies in the extreme west of the country against the shores of Lake Tanganyika.

Dramatic and lush scenery, luxury beach camps and small island resorts make this most remote of destinations a fascinating environment to explore.

Served by us twice a week, on Monday and Thursday, we are the only operator to operate a scheduled service into Mahale most of the year round.

We fly twice weekly from Ruaha to Mahale on a Monday and Thursday, with convenient onward connections for all the major airlines out of Dar es Salaam and onwards to the Southern and Northern National Parks and Swahili Coast.

A rowing boat on a lake in The Southern Highlands, at Mufindi Highlands Lodge

The Southern Highlands

Southern Highlands are south of Iringa town and at 2500ft a considerable change in altiture from the National Parks.  Just 30 minutes flying time from Ruaha‚ they offer wonderful scenery‚ tea estates and montane forest in a rolling topography.  The cooler climate lends itself to more active pursuits including walking‚ horse riding‚ fishing‚ bird watching.

The airstrip services Sao Hill‚ Mafinga town and Mufindi area.

We fly daily to the Ngwasi airstrip with convenient onward connections for all of the major airlines out of Dar es Salaam and onward to the Southern and Northern National Parks.

Travelling by Air in Tanzania – Quick Guide

Air travel in tanzania.

Getting around in Tanzania by air is safe and straight forward. There are several air carriers that connect major  Tanzanian cities as well as safari airstrips and islands like Pemba, Mafia and Zanzibar. Regional aircrafts operate from terminal 1 Dar es Salaam Airport .

If you plan to visit Northern Circuit safari parks, then best airport to arrive is Kilimanjaro airport. While visiting southern Tanzania and Zanzibar only, best airport to arrive is Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar Airport.

Within Tanzania is possible to fly to other cities and towns as well as airstrips in National Parks, usually with small aircrafts.

The cheapest and latest air carrier is Fastjet , famous for low plane ticket prices and never disappointed us with delays or other inconvenience.

Prices vary, flights to smaller airstrips are more expensive and sometimes require at least two passengers for booking. Many air carriers do private charters on request.

Luggage allowance with small aircrafts is usually 15 kilos, (33 lbs) appreciated soft bags!

Fast Jet Routes in Tanzania

Fastjet –  low cost airline and synonym for cheap flights in tanzania.

Travelling by Air in Tanzania

Many of you will most definitely travel at some point with FastJet . Their  website is by far most user friendly among all airlines in Tanzania. Their air travel routes in Tanzania connect cities like Dar es Salaam, Mbeya, Mwanza and Kilimanjaro.

However, be a little careful when planning flights with Fastjet between Mwanza and Kilimanjaro. This route seems not so popular and cancelations within less than 24 hours were the biggest annoyance some travellers experienced (including me).

Right now flights to Zanzibar and Arusha are not covered. But FastJet takes you for affordable price also out of Tanzania, latest, long waited route is between Dar es Salaam and Lilongwe. FastJet also flies to Entebbe (Uganda), Johannesburg (South Africa), Lusaka (Zambia)  and Harrare in Zimbabwe.

Precision Air Travel Routes in Tanzania

Travelling by Air in Tanzania

Precision air has mixed online reputation. Some travelers like it, some hate it. We travelled several times with Precision  Air and there were never major problems, except the airline has reputation for delays and incompetent customer support when problems arise.

Online booking with Precision Air is straight forward, they accept credit cards. However, for Zanzibar office we can confirm there are no credit cards accepted, only cash, which is at least to say unprofessional.

I would like to share experiences with airlines I have made in Tansania:

– Precision: Frequent delays on most flights. On our last flight they wanted to see the credit Card I used for the booking. I did not have that Card with me because it was expired. And they wanted us to bring(!) a photo copy of our passports. We had to leave the Airport to find a shop that would make These copies.

– Coastal Aviation: I can recommend this Airline. On all my flights always on time. Competent and friendly Service.

– FastJet: Very cheap. I have bought 1 ticket from them and I could not use that ticket. They rescheduled the flight to a new departure time that did not match my travel plans. They would not refund the ticket. I had no choice but buy another ticket with a different Airline. I have never actually flown with them. I do not think I ever will.

Please excuse the capitalization in this message. Internet Explorer is doing that.

Hi Paul, thanks for sharing your experience! You really had a little bit of bad luck with expired card but otherwise is in the terms of all airlines, if you book by credit card, you must show it at the check in if asked. This was the only reason i took credit cards with me. And am not surprised about Fast Jet, am wondering which route did you want to fly with them that was cancelled?

Fly-in safaris are a popular choice in Tanzania. A well-established travel industry ensures that logistics run very smoothly. This includes a large network of flights to and between safari destinations, so that most parks and reserves are now accessible by air as well as by road. In the past, flying into Tanzanian parks and reserves tended to be extremely expensive as this was only possible with chartered flights. More recently, the concept of scheduled safari flights has opened up fly-in Tanzanian safaris to more people. Aside from the obvious time-saving logistical advantages of a fly-in safari over a road safari, you’ll have the bonus of an aerial view of the park before landing.

“There are two ways to travel in the country. You can either book a safari where a driver-guide travels with you for the duration of your trip. He or she will drive you from park to park and will usually conduct the game drives as well. In this case the guide will be a constant throughout your holiday. You might have to cover big distances between parks, which can be tiresome, but you’ll get to see a lot of rural Tanzania, away from the tourist hot spots. Alternatively, you can opt for a Tanzanian fly-in safari where you travel from park to park by light aircraft. This will save you a lot of time as it cuts out many additional kilometers spent in the car, often on bumpy roads. When you fly between parks, you’ll be met at the airstrip by your local guide who will look after you for the duration of your stay at that particular destination. So, you’ll have a different guide in each place. These guides work on-site and tend to be more knowledgeable than the general guides based in the cities. On a fly-in safari, your game drives will be conducted in the lodge’s open-sided vehicles. These spacious, open cars are superior to the pop-up-roof 4x4s used for road safaris. It is also possible to combine both types of safari. You could, for instance, book a road safari to Serengeti National Park or Nyerere National Park (formerly Selous Game Reserve) with a fly-in extension to a more-remote part of the country, e.g. to see chimpanzee in Mahale Mountains National Park.”

Is a fly-in safari much more expensive than a road safari?

“Flying from destination to destination is usually more expensive than a road safari in Tanzania. And while there are many advantages to a fly-in safari, many people booking a safari are budget-conscious. However, several local carriers now offer scheduled flights between parks. Furthermore, competition between different carriers flying to the popular parks has grown in recent years, bringing down the prices. Most importantly, there is usually no need for chartered flights. Since flying from park to park is essentially more time-productive, you can probably do a safari in fewer days compared to a similar road safari. Taking that into account, you might find a fly-in package doesn’t actually work out to be a lot more expensive than a road safari. Having said that, fly-in packages usually focus on the most exclusive and upmarket all-inclusive lodges, and these come at a premium price.”

What are the luggage restrictions on a fly-in trip in Tanzania?

“Safari flights are mostly on small light aircraft, and strict luggage restrictions apply, usually 15kg/33lb per person. As the planes are quite small, they also ask you to use a soft bag, such as a duffel bag, which is easier to store in a confined space. As you will be allowed more on your international flight, you can either pack with these small aircraft restrictions in mind, or you can leave some luggage with your tour operator or hotel at your city of entry. To accommodate the luggage restrictions, most lodges will do same-day laundry and many luxury lodges even include it in their package. Luggage restrictions on safari flights can be problematic for keen photographers with large lenses and lots of other equipment. If in doubt, always check with your tour operator in advance. In extreme cases you might need to book an extra seat.”

How reliable and safe are the small aircraft used for a fly-in safari in Tanzania?

“A fly-in safari and the light aircraft used in Tanzania are very safe. Tanzania has a well-established safari industry, and most of the local carriers have been operating for many years. Aside from having very strict safety regulations, they are generally very reliable too. Although several carriers offer scheduled flights to the popular parks and reserves, they do so in a flexible manner depending on bookings. The route will be scheduled, but stops at different airstrips are planned according to the bookings. That means that exact timings are usually announced the day before any given flight. The lodges are in direct contact with the airlines, and they inform their guests in ample time. They also organize transfers to and from the airstrips.”

Are some parks or reserves in Tanzania more suitable to this type of safari?

“Most parks and reserves can be visited on a road or fly-in safari. Both tour options are popular in the Northern circuit (Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti, Lake Manyara and Tarangire National Parks). As the Ngorongoro Conservation Area lies en route to the Serengeti, a great option is to drive one way and fly back. This saves time and avoids having to drive the same route twice. The Southern circuit (Mikumi, Nyerere and Ruaha National Parks) is a bit more remote. Many visitors opt to fly-in, although a road trip is the budget-friendly option, especially if only visiting one reserve. The Western circuit is almost exclusively visited on fly-in safaris. It includes Katavi, Mahale Mountains and Gombe National Parks. Katavi is a typical savannah reserve with lion, elephant and so on, while Mahale and Gombe both offer the more-specialized attraction of chimp trekking on the shores of Lake Tanganyika. Katavi and Mahale are usually visited together as they are connected by a convenient flight schedule. Katavi can theoretically be visited by road, but this is hardly ever done as it is so remote and difficult to reach. There are no access roads at all to Mahale and Gombe. Visitors usually come by flight, followed by a private boat transfer. The inaccessibility of the Western circuit makes it very exclusive. There is just a handful of small, mostly rustic lodges in these parks. Fly-in packages are expensive, but visitors get a special wild experience away from the crowds.”

“Big five animals and great wildebeest migration ever see since I born. I booked a ticket from Ngaiza adventure company for 3days safari Serengeti and ngorongoro crater. The amaizing thing that I saw is a large group of wildebeest and zebra in serengeti passing across the river to Kenya. I really wonder this because it was my first time to see. The game drive in Serengeti was very good with Ngaiza more appreciation to him. After that we finish our safari at Ngorongoro conservation area on the way we passesat oldupai gorge where we got more information about first human then we proceed our safari to ngorongoro crater to view many animals and all big . I recommend this company ngaiza adventure for any travel issue and booking. Thank you very much Ngaiza next time I wish to hike mount Kilimanjaro”

Day 1. - Fly from Dar es Salaam to Arusha and then on to Seronera (stay in Serengeti Heritage Luxury Tented camp)

Day 2 - Game drives in Central

Day 3 - Central - Ndutu (stay in Ndutu Heritage Camp)

Day 4 - Ndutu

Day 5 - Ndutu

Day 6 - Ndutu 1/2 day game drive & drive to Ngorongoro (stay in Serena Safari Camp)

Day 7 - Ngorongoro & drive to Empakai Crator camp

Day 8 + The Great Rift Valley Trek ……

I would appreciate any thoughts/observations on the above. A few specific questions:

(1) Are the above lodges in the Serengeti well placed for safari in late December?

(2) Is there a ‘going rate’ for the cost of car +guide per day and if so, how much is that. I appreciate that the cost of accommodation obviously varies but I assume the cost of car +guide is more standardised?

(3) Re the cost of the park fees, is that as simple as Serengeti x3, Ndutu x4 and Ngorongoro x1 . Or how does it work?

Thanks for your help!

Good itinerary which combine Central serengeti and Ndutu area in December

Serena safari camp or ngorongoro Serena Lodge????

Each Tour operator with different tour packages maybe compare with some

Go bullet 4th page in TripAdvisor where you can find some recommendations local Tour operators then email some of them about Tour package cost

' class=

Your itinerary is perfect just one advance if you get a tour operator is better that you use him to book camping for you and will be simple for you

You will just enjoy your stay and in this case you may get some discount

Yes Serena at the crater is great and at Ndutu I prefer the Pure Tented Camp, to many of the others as I know the quality.

It varies some TO's will charge US$ 250 a day for the group while other will get as low as US$ 150.

In my experience the newer vehicles with the better guides and more established TO's tend to be around the US$ 200 per day mark.

(3) Re the cost of the park fees, is that as simple as Serengeti x3, Ndutu x4 and Ngorongoro x1 . Or how does it work? Something like that.

it is a nice well balanced trip camps don't really make that much difference unless your after a luxury one, most mid range camps are great, they have what you need nice clean bed nice ensuite with usually hot and cold water.

The natron walk will add a nice dimension to Ndutu and it is a great experience, I have done it years ago and still find Lake Natron amazing.

Africa Safari Trip: A Comprehensive Guide To Crafting Unforgettable Memories

H ave you witnessed a lion’s roar echo across the savanna or watched a herd of elephants lumber by? An Africa safari trip is an otherworldly experience, but where do you even begin? This guide will equip you with all the essentials to plan your unforgettable adventure . Even though it can seem overwhelming at times, if you’re equipped with the right guidance and information, the procedure is rather easy.

To help you plan the perfect safari tour in Africa, in addition to answering the majority of your frequently asked questions, we’re put together some of the greatest tips and useful suggestions.

Choosing the Location of Your African Safari Trip

An Africa safari trip promises an enchanted world of discovery, where each expedition and place holds the potential to reveal a captivating tale. Every area of this enormous continent, from the lush deltas of the south to the brilliant savannahs of the east, offers a different fabric of fauna and culture. This is more than just a journey—it’s an exploration of the core of nature, where opportunity abounds at every turn.

African safaris are unique among travel experiences because of the authentic, natural spectacle of the wild. These excursions aim to fully immerse you in the world of animals, not just observe them. Planning your destination is among the most crucial aspects of preparation for any holiday, including this one. Africa is vast, so it’d be helpful to start with a “where to go on an Africa safari trip” Google search if you have no idea what to do.

To select the ideal safari destination, you must consider the things you wish to see. Are there any specific animals or cultural events you would like to see? Kenya and Tanzania from July to October are your best choices if you’ve always wanted to see the Great Wildebeest Migration. Visit either Botswana or South Africa to see a huge herd of African elephants throughout the year.

In East Africa and the majority of Southern African nations, the “Big Five” are also widely distributed. Travel to Uganda, Rwanda or the Congo for gorilla trekking; these countries are all in Central Africa. If you want to see chimpanzees on your Africa safari tour, Uganda is the ideal place to do it.

Top 5 Choice Destinations for Your Africa Safari Trip

Here are our top five African wildlife safari destinations to help you plan your trip.

Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve

At the Maasai Mara Reserves, the Big Five roam free, and boundless plains extend into the horizon on a wildlife safari. Traveling off-road and appreciating the lack of fences and lodging at any of the Mara conservation areas allows you to experience the breathtaking sight of countless wildebeests roaring across the East African savanna around the Great Migration.

From open safari vehicles, watch as lions hunt their prey with unparalleled subtlety. Elephants socialize within their close-knit groups, and elegant giraffes peruse acacia trees with grace. A fascinating insight into the Maasai people’s dynamic local culture, which is entwined with the land, its profusion of wildlife, and the natural beauties of the wildness itself, is provided by Maasai Mara.

Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park

Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park is home to a large environment that is brimming with life. See the boundless plains packed with antelopes, zebras, and wildebeests as they migrate in a never-ending dance of survival throughout your Africa safari trip. It’s what you anticipate seeing on game drives following your viewing of National Geographic or PBS programs. You might be amazed watching the big cats lounging in the shade following a good hunt, or you might experience the exhilaration of seeing a cheetah racing across the landscape in a flurry of speed.

There are other methods to observe wildlife, such as taking a hot-air balloon flight across the savanna for breath-inspiring, all-encompassing views of this iconic African terrain. Seasonality is essential when thinking about visiting the Serengeti; never schedule an unplanned online vacation.

Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park

You can feel the African wilderness in Zambia, not just see it. In contrast to safaris that are limited to metal enclosures, South Luangwa encourages you to stroll among the animals rather than drive by them. Imagine your heart racing as you make your way through verdant riverine forests full of leopards hiding in their disguises, only to be astounded by vast herds of buffalo crossing wide-open savannas.

As you approach elephants bathing, listen to the Luangwa River’s rushing waters, which will lead you to the echoes of night safaris. You can unwind in the unexpected comfort of fly tents or treehouse retreats when the stars adorn the sky.

South Africa’s Greater Kruger National Park

You can journey across acacia woodlands and tour places with sun-filled savannas along the rushing waters of the Sabi River in South Africa’s Greater Kruger National Park. Hear the echoes of prehistoric existence and see the exhilarating dance of adventures amidst the rare species. Renowned for its almost assured Big Five meetings, you get to experience the exhilarating thrill of seeing elephants trumpeting by a waterhole or lions relaxing in golden light—you don’t have to imagine it.

There is more to Kruger’s artistry than the Big Five. Higher populations of predators and a more varied array of species can be found in the superb private game reserves found in the Greater Kruger National Park. Wander along the river where crocodiles and hippos sunbathe before becoming lost in the rainbow of more than 500 different bird species.

Botswana’s Okavango Delta

Emerald islands emerge from the reflecting waters of the spreading waterways of Botswana’s Okavango Delta, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A mokoro is a native dugout canoe in which you may sail softly and intimately while spotting sleeping hippos afar and thirsty elephants sipping at the riverbanks .

Search among the trees for one of the greatest spots to see leopards or take in the aerial views of storks, eagles, and pelicans.

In such a distant location, the Okavango Delta boasts one of the largest concentrations of upscale safari resorts in Southern Africa, providing you with exclusive access to convenience and uncrowded rivers for a singular embrace of unspoiled wildlife.

Tips For An Outstanding African Safari Adventure

The foundation of a great African safari is effective communication. It makes sure you get the best possible experience out of your trip by bridging the gap between what you expect and the actual conditions of the environment. There are three communication techniques to help you receive the experience you want by interacting with an Africa safari trip guide or travel advisor .

Clearly state your demands and desires. Tell us about your ideal speed, cultural attractions, the wildlife you hope to see, and any unique interests you may have, such as birdwatching or photography. This enables your guide to customize your safari adventures based on your interests and budget. Mention any possible restrictions. Any physical restrictions or sensitivity should be disclosed to your guide to guarantee a fun and safe trip.

Pose inquiries. Never be afraid to ask questions about anything that piques your curiosity, be it local customs or the behavior of animals. Your guide holds a wealth of information that is just waiting to be discovered.

African safaris are an ode to the diversity and grandeur of nature. Every excursion offers a chance for a profound and intimate connection with nature. However, in a world full of breathtaking locations, the real art of travel is in how you take in each one. Each destination has a spirit of its own, and you can make transforming vacation experiences with the correct itinerary in addition to ones that are simply memorable.

Whether you’re traveling to the wild African savannahs or the charming countryside of Tuscany, creating a one-of-a-kind, dreamlike trip requires careful planning and vital information. It all comes down to creating a seamless, stress-free, and uniquely personalized tapestry of memories.

People Also Ask

How far should my Africa safari trip be scheduled? It’s advisable to make reservations eight to twelve months in advance of when you wish to go or depart for your selected African safari location. Enough time guarantees availability and your place at the top of the line for the most desirable experiences that Africa presents. It is always better to schedule your safari trip earlier than undergo a last-minute rush.

When is the ideal time to go on an Africa safari trip? The dry season, which runs from June to October, is the ideal time to go on a safari. Since it’s a warmer period of the year, there’s a greater chance that you’ll spot creatures looking for water. You can also witness the famous Masai Mara migration during these months.
