KUCHING (March 31): Airworld Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd under Airworld Group of Companies have opened its fourth branch at Gala City here.

Airworld Group of Companies chairman Datuk Seri Winston Liaw said the Group aspires to bring in international tourists through charter flights like what they did for Sabah tourism many years ago.

Matta calls for better air connectivity between Sarawak, major international cities

KUCHING (March 30): The Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) hopes to see better air connectivity between Sarawak and other major cities in the world to help boost tourism.

Matta president Datuk Tan Kok Liang said tourism stakeholders in the state could work closely to see how to increase load factor.

“On behalf of the travel agents, I wish there could be more direct flights. With better air connectivity, the inbound tourism would also fare better.

“Perhaps travel agents can begin to talk to new airlines to see how they can bring in more tourists to Sarawak,” he told reporters after launching Airworld Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd at Gala City here today.

Airworld Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd is the fourth branch under Airworld Group of Companies, headed by Datuk Seri Winston Liaw, who is also Sabah Association of Tour and Travel Agents chairman.

Matta Sarawak Chapter president Oscar Choo pointed out Kuching used to have direct flights to Hong Kong, Bali, and Shenzhen.

He added that these direct routes failed after a couple of months due to low passenger volume.

To this, Tan said Matta as well as its Sarawak Chapter would work closely with the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) to assess how they could bring in tourists from India, Australia, Japan, and Korea.

He stressed passenger load is key to sustaining air connectivity and boosting tourism development.

Meanwhile, Liaw called on the Sarawak government and STB to give their support to Airworld Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd to work on charter flights between Sarawak and other cities such as those in China.

“I’ve been doing charter flights for the past 22 years, and between 2005 and 2009, I did Kuching-Beijing charter flights. What I’ve done for Sabah tourism, I hope to do the same for Sarawak.

“Sarawak has what Sabah doesn’t have. We must find other ways to sell Sarawak products,” he said.

Liaw called for tourism players to join forces to boost arrivals in Sarawak rather than compete against each other.

“No one travel agent can absorb all because there are so many businesses like river cruise. We have to split and we shall help each other,” he said.

We did the 8-day Kunming et al tour with Airworld recently on 28 May and it was amazing. The guides were knowledgeable & informative, not to mention our tour leader Francis who'd been taking good care on all of us (36 pax!), especially the elderly at all times throughout the trip. He is such an alert, observant & considerate staff with good leadership skills who deserves an A* for his commitment as a tour leader. The hotels and food (12 dishes per meal!) were 5* star; all the travel arrangements between the hotels/cities to the attractions were well-planned and perfect. It's well worth the modest cost. It was a very worth-for-money trip to Korea-Jeju in May2018(price was less than 4k). Thou already in summer, still we enjoyed the places of interest that arranged by the agent. Most of all we had a soft spoken, polite, caring, handsome chinese speaking korean tour guide. The foods are sumptuous and nice. They even upgraded our hotel in Seoul to suite. What an experience! Booked a 5D tour of Mulu with Borneo Adventure. Spent close to a month planning the trip with our guide Disney Jaboh in Kuching. Disney was a rock star - super patient, incredibly warm and very kind. He addressed all our million questions and helped us craft the perfect tour itinerary to our exact specifications. In time, talking with him was just like speaking with an old friend! We even met him for dinner in Kuching to say hi and say thanks for the memories. During the tour, we were assigned to Nelson, a super experienced guide. Again, 5/5 stars here -- he was the perfect guide and we were so so thankful to have him with us. In 20+ years of travelling to 20+ countries, Borneo Adventure is hands down in the top 3 of private tour companies I've ever engaged. They are not the cheapest, but you pay for what you get.

Could not recommend them highly enough.... we'll definitely be back for a future tour with Borneo Adventure!

An unforgettable experience, breathtaking nature, wonderfully taken cared of by the whole team

We spent unforgettable 4 days in the Batang Ai area, with its breathtakingly beautiful rivers and jungle. We were impressed by the organisation of Borneo Adventure, the huge knowledge of our guide Bayang, and the skilled Iban longboat drivers. We learned so much about the flora and fauna, about the culture and life of the Iban people, even how they cook food in bamboo sticks. The lodge and the camp are both wonderful, the meals really delicious, and all the staff very friendly, relaxed and eager to help. We can highly recommend Borneo Adventure, last and not least because they involve and work together with the Iban people in a sustainable manner.

Great Tours with Great Guides

We did two trips with Borneo Adventure while we were away, both were amazing (Mulu Showcaves 2D1N and Tanjung Datu 3D2N) and highly recommended. The caves and wildlife at Mulu were amazing and our guide Nelson was really great and really knowledgeable. Tanjung Datu is just a special place. Again our guide Lemon was amazing who our made the trip with his cooking, knowledge and conversation. We would use them again 100%.

Airworld Group of Companies chairman Datuk Seri Winston Liaw said the Group aspires to bring in international tourists through charter flights like what they did for Sabah tourism many years ago.

“Many travel agents have closed down due to the pandemic- with Airworld Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd in Gala City, we hope to better serve the Kuching market; we want to provide tourism services and bring in international tourists.

“I spent five years developing the tourism in Sabah during the time when social media was not popular, Chinese nationals had no clue where Sabah was - some even asked what country it is.

“Times have changed and now Korean tourists are thronging Sabah. News reports have it that Chinese tourists are flocking to Hong Kong and after this; I think they may come to Sabah and West Malaysia. We hope to bring tourists to Sarawak.

“Some tourists prefer beaches while others may prefer the rainforests and nature better along with the local delicacies and culture offered at a destination. There is room for Sabah and Sarawak to receive more international tourists,” he said when met by reporters after the opening ceremony at Gala City yesterday.

Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) president Datuk Tan Kok Liang was the guest of honour, with Matta Sarawak Chapter president Oscar Choo present.

Liaw, who is Sabah Association of Tour and Travel Agents chairman, recalls developing Sabah tourism by mounting the inaugural flight between Kota Kinabalu and Shenzhen, China back in 2000 and Shanghai in 2001.

He said the Group subsequently introduced flights to more cities; Guangzhou, Kunming, Guiyang, Nanning, Guilin, Changsha, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Zhengzhou and to name a few.

“It took us a few years to develop the market in order to continue the series of charter flights – as frequent as three times a week to some destinations.

“Between 2000 and 2005, we only chartered flights during peak seasons in China - Chinese New Year (CNY), Labour Day Holiday and China National day. Meanwhile, from 2005 to 2009, we had flights between Kuching and Beijing – a direct charter during CNY season for five consecutive years,” he said.

He hopes with support from Sarawak Tourism Board and Tourism Malaysia, direct flights from Sarawak cities like Kuching and Miri to cities in China could be introduced.

He added Borneo is an island and the only way to receive tourists is through air travel.

“In order to promote Sarawak tourism, we need the support from Sarawakian locals to sustain consistent routes to and from two cities; both ways must have equal passengers load traffic,” Liaw added.

Airworld Travel and Tours Sdn Bhd opens from 8.30am to 5.30pm on weekdays as well as between 8.30am and 12.30pm on Saturdays.

“Times have changed and now Korean tourists are thronging Sabah. News reports have it that Chinese tourists are flocking to Hong Kong and after this; I think they may come to Sabah and West Malaysia. We hope to bring tourists to Sarawak.

“Some tourists prefer beaches while others may prefer the rainforests and nature better along with the local delicacies and culture offered at a destination. There is room for Sabah and Sarawak to receive more international tourists,” he said when met by reporters after the opening ceremony at Gala City yesterday.

Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) president Datuk Tan Kok Liang was the guest of honour, with MATTA Sarawak Chapter president Oscar Choo present.

Liaw, who is Sabah Association of Tour and Travel Agents chairman, recalls developing Sabah tourism by mounting the inaugural flight between Kota Kinabalu and Shenzhen, China back in 2000 and Shanghai in 2001.

He said the Group subsequently introduced flights to more cities; Guangzhou, Kunming, Guiyang, Nanning, Guilin, Changsha, Nanjing, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Zhengzhou and to name a few.

“It took us a few years to develop the market in order to continue the series of charter flights – as frequent as three times a week to some destinations.

“Between 2000 and 2005, we only chartered flights during peak seasons in China – Chinese New Year (CNY), Labour Day Holiday and China National day. Meanwhile, from 2005 to 2009, we had flights between Kuching and Beijing – a direct charter during CNY season for five consecutive years,” he said.

He hopes with support from Sarawak Tourism Board and Tourism Malaysia, direct flights from Sarawak cities like Kuching and Miri to cities in China could be introduced.

He added Borneo is an island and the only way to receive tourists is through air travel.

“In order to promote Sarawak tourism, we need the support from Sarawakian locals to sustain consistent routes to and from two cities; both ways must have equal passengers load traffic,” Liaw added.

As a Tour Executive, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing memorable tours for our clients. You will play a crucial role in ensuring a seamless and enjoyable travel experience for our customers.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Tour Planning: Develop comprehensive itineraries for domestic and international tours, considering factors such as destinations, accommodations, transportation, and activities.
• Client Communication: Interact with clients to understand their preferences, provide tour details, and address any inquiries or concerns promptly.
• Vendor Coordination: Collaborate with hotels, transportation providers, and other vendors to secure bookings, negotiate contracts, and ensure all services meet high-quality standards.
• Logistics Management: Oversee all logistical aspects of tours, including transportation arrangements, accommodation bookings, and activity scheduling.
• Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service before, during, and after tours to ensure customer satisfaction and address any issues that may arise.
• Budget Management: Work within budget constraints while maximizing the value and quality of tour services.
• Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of all tour-related information, expenses, and client details. Generate reports as needed.
• Emergency Response: Handle unforeseen issues or emergencies during tours and implement contingency plans to ensure the safety and well-being of clients.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Educational Background: Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Hospitality, Tourism Management, or a related field is preferred.
• Experience: Fresh graduates are welcome.
• Computer Proficiency: Competency in Microsoft Office Suite, and other relevant tools.
