What should you do first while looking for a travel buddy?

Many people who desire to travel around the world and see breathtaking places don’t have a suitable travel companion. And not everyone can make an announcement “travel buddy wanted” via social networks.

Most likely your perfect travel buddy and even destiny are not among your old internet friends. And this is the main reason to start looking for a travel buddy on the special project. At first pick and post your best photos, decide where you want to go and what do you plan to visit, write all hobbies, interests and plans in your personal profile and start an exciting race of making new friends all around our planet.

There are several secrets that help while choosing a travel buddy

Pay attention to people’s plans and habits. For example, if a person writes in a profile that he prefers energetic lifestyle with tons of activities and you enjoy calm and quite sightseeing – probably you won’t make a good match even if other interests are similar. If you two are early birds – that’s great, if not it could do you wrong. Imagine the situation when your buddy is a night owl and doesn’t give you a chance to rest.

So try to write a list of what you prefer while traveling. Do you like organized or spontaneous trips? Riding a car or hiking miles? Dining at home or tasting foreign cuisine? And you can also mention on what side of the bed you sleep. Make a funny note - travel buddy with left bedside preference wanted. Fortunately, your perfect travel buddy will appreciate this tiny joke. And don’t forget that sense of humor is one of the most important things in any relationship.

Real experiences of the real Los Angeles

See the real la, tripadvisor.

Did a full day walking tour of LA. Our tour guide Damien was very knowledgeable & passionate about giving us all the information in a clear & concise way. The tour was very well planned & organised & was not tiring.

Lisa Montesanti

We did The Real Hollywood tour & loved it! The tour was at a great pace & the guide (Vicky) was very knowledgeable & made the tour fun. Thank you!

Stuart was so knowledgeable & was worth the day with him. I had been to LA multiple times before but this is the first time I had taken a tour – so thrilled to have this experience with my mom & sister. I would recommend this tour again & again.

Lucrezia Scamarcio

We had an amazing DTLA Murder Mystery Ghost tour with Damien & Dante… thank you very much from the Italian girls… very interesting & funny… absolutely recommended!

Passport17369220499

This tour was awesome! Stuart is very knowledgeable, likeable & fun. The stops on the tour were very interesting & I learned a lot. I’ve been on quite a few tours of this nature & this was one of my favorites – highly recommend!

Did a walking tour of LA (LA in a Day). Vicky started us off with the Hollywood tour & Damien (who is also the owner) was our guide for the rest of the day. The entire day was awesome, I suggest this tour. There isn’t that much walking, to be honest. It’s very fun!

Michelle B.

My boyfriend & I took the DTLA Murder Mystery Ghost tour with Stuart as our guide & had the most amazing time! We had experiences we will never forget! We were able to see parts & people of Los Angeles that we never would have without Stuart. I give this 10/10. If we visit again, this will be at the top of our to do list!

Sara Pozueta

Absolutely amazing! Highly recommend taking both The Real Hollywood Tour & the Central Downtown LA tour! Our time in LA wouldn’t have been the same. Great way to learn about the city, see it from a different angle, explore the local life & learn about its history & filming industry. Damien our guide was fantastic!

Sylvie was our host & was fantastic. She had a lot of local knowledge & gave her unique perspective as someone who had moved to the area many years ago, so she had an outsider’s as well as an insider’s perspective. The tour gave us a great overview of Santa Monica & Venice & set us up for a great rest of the day.

Paula Lindgren

We took 2 tours, the Santa Monica & Venice Bike tour (with Sylvie) & the Real Hollywood tour (with Damien). Both were great & highly recommended. Sylvie & Damien were informative, knowledgeable & easy to talk to. They were like you were with friends. We were traveling as a family of 4 with 2 boys (15 & 12). We all enjoyed the tours.

Hollywood Speakeasy Bar Tour

youtube-video-thumbnail

$85 / pp Includes food

2 miles An easy walking distance

6pm – 9pm (3 hours) Friday

What is the Hollywood Speakeasy Bar Tour? It’s a time-traveling caper that starts by whisking you back to golden-age Hollywood, then transports you to a rooftop bar overlooking the neon-lit streets, before taking you inside a hidden historic speakeasy and the birthplace of the Oscars.

The Hollywood Speakeasy Bar tour starts at the famed Frolic Room (inside the Pantages Theatre). Since the 1930’s the bar has been used by many actors that graced the stage next door and was a regular haunt of Los Angeles poet Charles Bukowski. Next we’ll visit a recent arrival here from France, Mama Shelter – and her beautiful rooftop bar. From there you can look over the rooftops and see all the way from the iconic Hollywood Sign to the towers of downtown Los Angeles.

After that we’ll discover a speakeasy bar that’s hidden in the oldest house in Hollywood, before ending the tour at a glamorous restaurant used by the stars from 1919 to today. During the course of the night we’ll regale you with stories and anecdotes detailing how this small farming town in the Wild West became the most famous place on earth. By the end of the tour you’ll have learned a lot about Hollywood history, enjoyed cocktails that fitted each location and eaten some good food. In other words a great experience of Los Angeles.

Join us on the Hollywood Speakeasy Bar Tour and have the adventure of a nighttime.

Our tours can sell out. If you can't make a booking email us at [email protected] , telling us when you want to do the tour and how many guests are in your party, and if we can squeeze you in we’ll let you know.

WEATHER ALERT

A rip current statement in effect for Coastal Broward and Coastal Miami Dade Regions

Veteran broward lawyer suspended after he ‘misappropriated’ funds, florida bar says.

Chris Gothner , Digital Journalist

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Roger Barry Davis has spent more than five decades practicing law in South Florida. But the Hallandale Beach lawyer’s ability to do so has been taken away on an emergency basis after a Florida Bar investigation found that he “misappropriated client funds.”

That includes, according to the Bar, spending more than $13,000 of funds of a man he served as a guardian for most of his career — about four years after that man had died.

Recommended Videos

The Florida Bar announced Davis’ suspension on Tuesday. He was admitted to the bar on Oct. 18, 1973 and his offices are located at 136 Golden Isles Drive, according to his profile on the Florida Bar website.

According to an emergency suspension petition, filed by the Bar on April 5, the allegations against Davis stem from two cases.

The first case revolves around a client named William Frances Storen, according to the petition.

Investigators said Davis had served as Storen’s guardian since around 1976. He had lost touch with Storen in May 2019 and the man’s niece told him he had died about a year prior and “requested an accounting of any funds (he) was holding on Storen’s behalf,” the documents state.

Instead, an audit found that Davis spent $13,837 of Storen’s funds over four months in 2022, four years after the man died, for Davis’ “personal benefit and for the benefit of others.”

Davis, the petition states, “claimed those funds were his earned attorney fees,” but did not provide any evidence to support the assertion. The auditor found that Davis also “failed to file an annual accounting (from) 2014 to 2018″ as required.

“The evidence is clear and convincing” that Davis misappropriated funds, the petition states. It also states that he made “material misrepresentations” to Storen’s niece and her attorney regarding the funds held in Storen’s account.

The other case involves a client’s $3,500 settlement against Volkswagen, the petition states.

The auditor found that Davis, instead of depositing money into a trust account, put it in his personal account and spent more than $3,300 in settlement proceeds for his “own benefit.”

According to the Florida Bar, Davis paid the client $1,575 from a “new source of funds” unrelated to the settlement, essentially conducting a Ponzi scheme.

“One cannot use client money received today for an attorney’s personal purposes banking on it being replaced in time for a client payment in the future,” the petition states. “That is the very essence of a ‘Ponzi scheme.’”

Local 10 News left Davis a voicemail message seeking comment Tuesday afternoon. It’s not clear whether he will be criminally investigated or charged in the matter.

A Florida Bar spokesperson said the order becomes effective May 22 after a 30-day period to “wind down and cease the practice of law.”

“The lawyer remains suspended thereafter until further order,” the spokesperson said.

What is this Madness?

Simply speaking, it’s a guided bus tour aboard a cool renovated hand-painted bus that hits three of Detroit’s oldest bars. It’s so much more than that though. It’s a way of life. Come and find out.

Ever since Detroit was a mere French missionary outpost, the city’s history has been entwined with the story of its citizens’ drinking habits.

Countless stories have been shared over a pint, and a majority of the city’s major moments featured alcohol front and center: the early frontier day’s wild revelry, through the bloody freewheeling days of the Purple Gang & National Prohibition and beyond. We’ll stop at some of Detroit’s oldest, most notorious and most interesting bars, sharing stories along the way- over a few pints, of course.

Detroit’s got some serious chops when it comes to drinking history. So let’s go to that bar that’s been around since 1874.

Or that one that predates World War One. Actually, loads of Detroit bars are older than your grandparents, and we’re visiting as many as we can in the limited time we have. Some of them are snazzy; one or two may be a little dive-y–but in the best way possible. We like to keep the stops a secret because we don’t wanna ruin the surprise, but we promise you’ll have a great time. Matter of fact, we guarantee it.

The Details:

This tour runs most Fridays and Saturdays now. The tour is approximately three hours long. Book your tickets using the fancy “book now” button near the top of the page.

Pickups: This tour boards both in Ferndale and Detroit. Choose your pickup location at checkout.

The Ferndale pickup is at 6:15PM on Friday and 5:15PM on Saturday in front of One Eyed Betty’s at 175 W Troy, Ferndale.

The Detroit pickup is at 7:00PM on Friday and 6:00PM on Saturday in front of Checker Bar at 124 Cadillac Square, Detroit.

READ THAT AGAIN:  The pickup time is different on Friday and Saturday tours.  🙂

Refund Policy: We’ll gladly refund your tickets in full 14 days prior to the day of the event. After that, there’s no refunds. Sorry to be so mean about it.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What happens if I miss the bus? Will the bus wait for me if I’m late? If you miss your pickup in Detroit, you can hustle and make the pickup in Ferndale. We can’t hold the bus for you if you’re late, though. Sorry to be so mean about that. There’s a schedule to keep and we want everyone to have a good time.

Can I drink on the bus? Yes, but with great power comes great responsibility. What we mean is take it easy and don’t wear the proverbial lampshade. This is a 21+ tour only. You’re on a starting and stopping bus. No, you can’t pee on the curb. Also, please only bring things with lids; no open cups. Small coolers only, since the big ones are a safety hazard. And it’s just plain illegal to take any open container on or off the bus. Drink on the bus? Sure. At the bar? Absolutely. But no drinks in the no-man’s-land in between the two. It’s the law, dude.

What about food? We are hitting some bars that don’t have a whole lot of food options. We recommend, then, that you fuel up ahead of time and/or bring lots of snacks. Drinking and learning is hard work.

Do the bars take credit cards? Some do, some don’t. It’s probably easiest for everyone if you bring some cash along. It’s quicker anyway, and who doesn’t love making it rain?

What if I can’t show up? Will my friend be able to go instead? Totally. Just let us know ahead of time via [email protected] and we’ll update your tickets with the new name or send them with your printed tickets.

Will you be selling extra seats at the bus? Nope. Sorry. All passes gotta be bought online. There’s a limited number of seats and we want you to have plenty of room – no roof riders no matter how badass that might sound.

What about weather SNAFUs? We live in Michigan. Sometimes Mother Nature likes to throw us a curveball. We keep safety as our highest priority. In case of gnarly weather, you’ll receive an email the day of the event with a raincheck/snowcheck date. If you cannot make the rescheduled date, you’ll get a voucher good for a future tour with us.

PSST! We also offer a  private tour  version of this experience. Reach out to us to book for your group.

Julie Wilkie – September 25, 2016

14 of us did this last night. What a blast!!! Highly recommended. All the bars were fantastic, full of fun and history. Maurice and Roland were awesome.

Robert – October 2, 2016

We booked a tour with the Detroit bus Company. It was a rainy night but the tour and our guide Maurice made up for the weather. It was fun, informative and we had a blast with the folks on board. If you’re in Detroit, don’t miss this tour to see some of Detroits more interesting watering holes.

Gina – October 16, 2016

Who’s your driver? Roland! Who’s your tour guide? Karen! ❤️ Obey the house keeping rules! These two are just awesome! Karen is very informative and fun! Roland, you couldn’t ask for a better driver! Both of them are personable and friendly !Good times! Add this tour to your bucket list!

Darlene Lumma – November 20, 2016

Nov 19, 2016 first freezing cold night of the season. Had a great time with Justin and Roland. Would absolutely recommend it to everyone.

Katy – March 7, 2017

This was an amazing evening! Got to discover some hidden jems while taking a tour through the city.

hcancun – October 16, 2017

This bus company is phenomenal! We had a group outing for the Drunks of Antiquity tour and had an absolute blast. I honestly haven’t found anything quite as unique for team outings and found some new bars to take my friends to.

People who complain about it being a “party” bus instead of a history tour: It is well advertised that this is a drinking excursion, as well as a history tour. We definitely received a healthy balance of both.

People who complain who missed the bus: Don’t miss the bus. You’re not the only customers 🙂

I wish I could remember our tour guide and bus drivers’ names, but our tour was back in February 2017. We’re going on the one this Friday AGAIN because we had such a blast the first time around.

I highly recommend this company, especially for team outings! 5 five, 2 thumbs up, high five.

kkarwowska – December 27, 2017

Seriously, whether you are visiting or a local, you MUST take one of their tours!!!!! I did the “Drunks of Antiquity” tour with friends and it was AWESOME!!! The tour guide and driver were SO much fun! I can’t wait until my next visit “home” to try another of their tours.

Tiffany – December 30, 2017

Awesome time with Maurice and Gail! Can’t wait to do it again!

We’re so glad you had an awesome time! Please consider leaving your honest review on Yelp and TripAdvisor too! Honest reviews help our tiny company survive and thrive.

Denice Brown – January 18, 2018

As a lifelong Detroiter, I appreciate the chance to visit bars that have a history! It’s perfect for visitors to the city. And a chance to find a new hangout place! If you get a chance, take it. Fun!

Brenda – January 21, 2018

Our group of 15 had a fantastic time on this tour! The only thing that was problematic was finding parking in Ferndale as we got on at Rosie O’Grady’s (the meters are only for 2 hours…we finally just parked in the back of the Post Office lot and prayed our car wasn’t going to get towed…It didn’t). The tour was great though and we all thoroughly enjoyed the four bars that we went to (don’t want to list the names as I don’t want to ruin the surprise!). If you are looking for a fun night out and have a group of friends, mark this on your calendar to do!

Jon – April 8, 2018

We had a group of 40 and all had a fantastic time. I’ll be booking this again for my corporate event soon. Very, very cool.

Lori Mabee – April 8, 2018

Went on the tour last night and haven’t had that much fun in a long time!! Absolutely worth every cent…plus the mission of this company is outstanding with their Ride for Ride program. Our guide Monique King was phenomenal both informative and funny. Loved this event!

Jan Wellman – April 22, 2018

Six of us took the Drunk tour on Friday April 20, 2018. All of us agreed that it was a wonderfully fun time! Everyone on the bus was there to have fun and join in the party. Monique was our tour guide, and she was great! Histerically funny! Wonderful on the inside also, as we had the opportunity to speak privately with her. I highly recommend taking this tour. In fact, we are going to try to book a private bus in the future…and we will definitely request Monique! Well done, Detroit Bus Company!!

Dan – April 29, 2018

Excellent time.

Pam – May 20, 2018

Our group of 22 chartered a private Drunks of Antiquity Tour. We hit 4 fun, unique spots… definitely Detroit hidden gems. I won’t ruin the surprise by naming any bars here, but we ended the night at a place with some live music which was absolutely perfect for our dancing queens! Special thanks to Harvey, our driver, and Heather, our guide for helping make this night so much fun. I would highly recommended this bar crawl!

Christie – August 24, 2018

There were about 20 of us who did the tour for my birthday. Monique, our tour guide, was fantastic! Hilarious, helpful and informative! Definitely recommend the tour to anyone interested in getting buzzed up, while learning some Detroit history! Thanks again, Monique!!

Doreen M – November 5, 2018

Calvin was a fantastic guide, and fun was had by all. The bars were all staffed well expecting our arrival!

kwel2016 – November 6, 2018

This is the third time I’ve taken this tour and each time was just as much fun. Calvin our guide was very knowledgeable about the Bars and the city of Detroit. The whole experience was a ton of fun! Highly recommend for birthdays and just good group fun. Best Birthday so far!

larpjr – November 19, 2018

This tour was fun I saw 4 bars I would never know even existed. Tour guide was fun and informative all 4 bars were cool, and I like the amount of time we spent at each one! There was a fund raiser at one of the bars for the high school kids and a program for books, the one in Mexican town, and I won the 50/50 raffle, they were so appreciative when I returned the winnings to the charity I almost cried! That made the trip even more fun! There’s a big huge dog at the bar and he was so sweet and cute. The bar with the band was great too. Take this tour, its fun. The bus was really warm and we had bundled up thinking it would be cold but it was hot. Even on a really cold night, Bus driver did and excellent job and bus was in top condition. I think most people are into the ride and the bars, keep the stories very short.

Emma – February 17, 2019

The tour was so much fun! Our guide was Patrick, and he did an amazing job. He was very knowledgeable, fun, and professional. Will definitely do this tour again.

Kristi – March 11, 2019

Ok Debbie Downer here. Don’t get me wrong. This was a blast! Tons of fun! Loved our guide Monique and our fantastic driver (sorry. Forgot his name). Great bus! Great bars! Great history! I just can’t figure out why we needed to get on in Detroit, drive to Ferndale to pick up four people, then drive back to Detroit to finally hit the first bar an hour after the tour started. ??? Five stars otherwise!

Lisa – October 27, 2019

We had a great time Friday on our private Drunks of Antiquity tour to celebrate a milestone birthday with the fabulous Monique as our guide, and the kind Charlie Brown (Larry) as our driver. Great insight into history, great bar stops, lots of fun. And love the Ride for Ride mission that helps children get to school safely. Members of our group will be back for another ride!

Aurora beacon-news | preservation week in batavia includes historical bar crawl, trolley tour.

Author

Delving into the history of Batavia and what makes it special is the focus of Preservation Week events taking place this week in the city.

The events are being offered by the Batavia Depot Museum, Batavia Historical Society, Batavia Public Library and the Preservation Partners of the Fox Valley.

Organizers said Preservation Week events date back well before the pandemic and continue to draw a diverse group of local residents. This year, participants can take part in a historical pub crawl, take an 11-stop trolley tour of historic sites and enjoy various workshops.

According to a press release from the Batavia Park District, which oversees the Depot Museum, the theme of this year’s Preservation Week is “Preserving Identities,” which will “highlight the importance of local history and inspire residents to preserve their personal, family and community collections for future generations.”

In addition to holding several community events, organizers will be posting fun facts, hidden histories and local trivia on social media all week long.

Batavia Depot Museum Director Kate Garrett said Preservation Week “is a tradition we’ve been doing for a long time. It goes back pre-COVID for sure.”

“There was a hiatus in 2020 and 2021, but we brought it back in 2022, and the activities this year are going to be some familiar and some a little bit new,” she said.

Garrett said returning features include a historical bar crawl, as well as a “Greatest Hits of Batavia” trolley tour.

Garrett added that the museum also partners with the Batavia Public Library, which will be offering “Digging in and Opening Up: Gathering and Preserving Family Stories” from 7 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, in the Founders Room of the library, 10 S. Batavia Ave. in Batavia.

The park district release said the free event will feature a presentation by professional genealogist Tina Beaird, who will teach residents how to gather and preserve their family’s history for future generations. Those planning to attend should register at www.bataviapubliclibrary.org/lectures-performances.

“New this year is a community roundtable on Wednesday, May 1, and it will feature a film from POP, or the Protect Our Past group, called ‘Love Letter to Cape Cod’ which will kick off a community conversation about places in Batavia that Batavians think are important to preserve for the long haul,” Garrett said. “These are unique to us and help describe our special place in the world.”

The park district press release said the event will include an informal conversation about life in the Batavia of yesteryear and a live question and answer session with Protect Our Past founder and president Ellen Briggs, guided by Al Watts of Preservation Partners of the Fox Valley.

The roundtable will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, at the Peg Bond Center, 151 N. Island Ave. Reservations are recommended and may be made at www.bataviaparks.org/calendar/events/history-roundtable.

The “Cheers Through the Years” bar crawl takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 3, beginning at the Batavia Depot Museum, and will highlight Batavia’s well-preserved downtown structures that now house watering holes such as Sidecar Supper Club and Beer Garden and Sturdy Shelter Brewing, according to the release.

The bar crawl will cost $10 per person. To register, go to www.bataviaparks.org/calendar/events/cheers-through-the-years

“The History Trolley: Batavia’s Greatest Hits” event will tour the city from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, beginning and ending at the Batavia Depot Museum. The trolley will visit some of Batavia’s 11 locations on the National Register of Historic Places, including landmarks like the former East Batavia School, according to the release.

The trolley tour will cost $22 per person. To register, go to www.bataviaparks.org/calendar/events/history-trolley

Garrett said events like Preservation Week are important.

“I think something like this informs how we approach our difficulties today and how we approach challenges now if we have some historical perspectives on that,” she said. “From a really practical, economic standpoint, historical buildings are a real boon to a community. It’s always easier to take care of an old building than to tear it down and build something new from scratch.”

Garrett said usually about 200 people every year take part in Preservation Week programs. She said this year there will be more digital options to get involved.

“This year, we’ll be talking specifically on Facebook and Instagram about buildings that are gone and when they were built and when they were torn down and what’s there today,” she said. “We really try to reach a broad audience for this and we have a little something for everybody.”

Overland Park wine bar honored with prestigious international title

1 of only 4 in kansas.

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) - A wine bar in Overland Park is one of only four in the State of Kansas to receive a prestigious international title by wine connoisseurs.

Michael Scherzberg, the owner of Vintage ‘78 Wine Bar , announced on Sunday, April 28, that it was recently recognized as a recipient of the prestigious Star Wine List Award from Star Wine Lis. The move solidifies the Overland Park establishment as one of the most exceptional dining destinations.

Scherzberg noted that the Star Wine List is the foremost guide to great wine bars and wine restaurants around the globe. It started in Stockholm to solve a local issue - with so many restaurant guides, wine lovers were left short.

According to Scherzberg, the selections on the list are made by a team of wine professionals and ambassadors worldwide. The list of members is long and distinguished.

“This is our third international wine list accolade in our first year,” he noted. “We were awarded a Best of Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator last summer, a Three Star Award and Jury Prize from the World’s Best Wine Lists earlier this year, and now a Star Wine List Award”

Currently, only four restaurants in the Sunflower State are included on the list:

  • Vintage ‘78 Wine Bar in Overland Park
  • Pane e Vino Wine Bar & Academy in Lawrence
  • Wine Dive + Kitchen in Manhattan
  • Wine Dive in Wichita

“We are thrilled to receive this award, especially in our first year of business,” Scherzberg continued. “This rounds out the trio of international wine list awards fine restaurants strive to receive.”

Scherzberg noted that Vintage ‘78 offers an unparalleled selection of wine from around the world paired with expertly crafted cuisine.

Jay Rock, Metro Boomin, Punch and More React to Kendrick Lamar's Drake Diss "Euphoria"

Kendrick Lamar got support among his rap peers on X after the surprise drop of his latest Drake diss track "Euphoria."

Some hip-hop heavyhitters rallied in support of Kendrick Lamar after the rapper dropped his fiery Drake diss track "Euphoria."

Shortly after Lamar debuted the follow-up to his "Like That" collaboration with Future and Metro Boomin , his bars on Drake's AI "gimmicks," parenting , and women caused an uproar on social media. Among those who responded to "Euphoria" were his rap peers, like Jay Rock , Gunna , Daylyt , Metro Boomin and Top Dawg Entertainment president Terrence "Punch" Henderson .

Daylyt called out DJ Akademiks for his constant defense of Drake and putting Kendrick on a timer for a response, telling the media personality to "start yo clock" and to "keep that same [energy] hahah."

Four screenshots of tweets from DJ Akademiks discussing a verbal exchange between Pusha T and another artist

Metro, who's played a vital role in the feud and even caught a "play some drums" stray from Drake on "Push Ups" , woke up with a "Thank God for the day!" message and laughing emojis.

Dismissing Drake's use of AI on "Taylor Made Freestyle," which has been largely scrubbed from the internet, Jay Rock hyped up his former TDE labelmate, writing, "Now this ain't no [sic] AI... see I know Kdot!! Euphoria."

He continued, "N***a got fried like a nice golden brown wing lol... dropped that n***a in that grease for 6 mins 40 something secs. Fried em."

Henderson's message was more simplistic, writing "Well," just days after going shade-for-shade with Young Money Entertainment president Mack Maine .

More reactions came from Reason and Glasses Malone, who both sided with Kendrick and co-signed his diss track.

10 Highlights From the Venice Biennale

A tour of the international exhibition, which opened last week and runs through November.

Photographs and Video by Jason Schmidt

The Venice Biennale, the art world’s most prestigious exhibition, opened last week to some fanfare, some criticism and a number of protests . Viewers generally look to the Biennale as a reflection of its time, and this one arrived at a fraught moment in history defined by political unrest and distrust for traditional systems of power. (And not for nothing, Indigenous and African artists, historically underrepresented in Venice, are notably more visible than in previous iterations of the show.) Here, a look at some of the standouts from the 2024 edition.

The Holy See Pavilion

The Vatican’s Holy See Pavilion organized an exhibition based on the theme of human rights, titled “Con i Miei Occhi (With My Eyes),” at the Giudecca Women’s Detention Home, an active prison for female inmates. The show includes works by the feminist art collective Claire Fontaine, the Brazilian textile artist Sonia Gomes, the American artist Corita Kent and the Italian conceptual artist Maurizio Cattelan (whose new fresco “Father,” depicting a pair of wounded feet, graces the building’s facade), all of which contemplate, in some way, the desire for freedom. Several inmates are giving guided tours and, on April 28, Pope Francis will stop by, making him the first Pontiff in history to visit the Biennale.

Nine people pose for a photograph in an ornately decorated room with an orange and yellow artwork on the ceiling.

The Nigeria Pavilion

For the country’s second-ever pavilion in Venice, eight Nigerian artists installed site-specific works at the Palazzo Canal in a show organized by the London-based curator Aindrea Emelife. Their projects — including Yinka Shonibare’s replicas of the Benin Bronzes that were plundered by the British in the late 19th century, and a sculpture by Ndiki Dike commemorating protests against police in 2020 — look at the violence of colonial history, as well as charting a path out of it.

Sook-Kyung Lee, the director of the Whitworth gallery at Manchester University, organized this installation, titled “Compose,” by the Tokyo-based installation artist Yuko Mohri, known for working with ready-made materials and incorporating sound into her sculptures. Largely using objects sourced from grocery stores and flea markets around Venice, Mohri addresses issues of environmental collapse and sustainability. In one part of the show, called “Decomposition,” a series of hanging lights are connected to electrodes inserted into rotting pieces of fruit, whose moisture creates electric signals that power the bulbs. The fruit will eventually be composted.

The South Korea Pavilion

The artist Koo Jeong A is representing South Korea at the Biennale with an original commission called “Odorama Cities.” The artist, who is known for exploring smell, worked with a Seoul-based perfumer in an attempt to capture the scents of the Korean Peninsula. The installation includes a bronze sculpture that emits a variety of fragrances based on more than 600 responses, which the artist gathered from people who live in or have visited Korea, to the question, “What is your scent memory of Korea?”

The Israel Pavilion

The new-media artist and filmmaker Ruth Patir, working with the curators Tamar Margalit and Mira Lapidot, closed her already installed exhibition “M/otherland” at the Israel Pavilion on the day it was set to open in protest of the war in Gaza. Visitors to the show, which considers the idea of fertility, are greeted with a sign posted at the entrance that reads: “The artist and curators of the Israeli pavilion will open the exhibition when a cease-fire and hostage release agreement is reached.”

The Fondazione Prada

At the Fondazione Prada’s venue, the 18th-century palazzo Ca’ Corner della Regina, the Swiss artist Christoph Büchel, perhaps best known for building a functional mosque at the 2015 Venice Biennale, has installed an immersive show called “Monte di Pietà” that explores the themes of debt and finance. (The show is named after a centuries-old money lender that used to operate in the same building.) In addition to a room showing CCTV footage seemingly from active war zones in Gaza and Kyiv, a collection of lab-grown diamonds and a stripper pole, the sprawling exhibition includes a fictitious bankrupt pawnshop.

The U.S. Pavilion

In his show “The Space in Which to Place Me,” the New York-based painter and sculptor Jeffrey Gibson, representing the United States, draws on themes of identity and Indigenous histories that he’s explored for much of his three-decade-long career. Included in the pavilion are sculptures, works on paper, videos and multimedia paintings that celebrate the artist’s Mississippi Choctaw and Cherokee heritage. There’s also a dance program featuring members of the Colorado Inter-Tribal Dancers and Oklahoma Fancy Dancers. Gibson is the first Native American to represent the United States with a solo show at the Biennale.

The Australia Pavilion

For his exhibition “Kith and Kin,” the Aboriginal artist Archie Moore has covered the walls of the Australia Pavilion with a meticulous chalk drawing of a First Nation family tree that calls upon some 65,000 years of the artist’s family history. In the center of the room, floating in a moat of water, are stacks of government documents that detail the deaths of Indigenous Australians in police custody. The work won the Golden Lion, the prize for the best national participation at the Biennale.

The Canada Pavilion

The Paris-based, Canadian-born artist Kapwani Kiwanga, who makes intricate installations concerned with the African diaspora and questioning the traditional canon, used small glass spheres called conterie , or Venetian seed beads, as the primary material for her installation “Trinket” at the Canada Pavilion. She strung together thousands of them, in a variety of colors, to create a dramatic, cumulative effect, turning the seemingly insignificant objects into something vast and dramatic.

The artist Ryan Gander’s installation at Palazzo Grassi.

Humans are, in fact, time travelers — the very ability you have been coveting in literature and science for centuries. You just do it cognitively, not physically. However, the ability to imagine a past and a future and various scenarios for yourselves also comes with consequences. The penalty is being able to imagine your own demise. You are all going to die, and none of you really know when.

The Palazzo Grassi

At the 18th-century Palazzo Grassi, also the site of a retrospective by the painter Julie Mehretu, the multimedia artist Ryan Gander has installed an animatronic work subtle enough to miss if you aren’t paying close attention. Positioned just above the floor, it comprises a moving life-size model of a mouse, which seems to poke through the wall of the Venetian Classical-style building and philosophize about the inevitability of death and the struggle to find meaning in life.
