Just wondering how many people are on the bus? Is it really crowded?

We had about 35 people on our bus. They normally are not filled to capacity. Hope this helps. Happy travels.

What can I say, they are the best. I've been on other bus tours and they blow them all away. We had flight problems our first day and I called them to let them know. On their own they set up a private tour of Mt. Rushmore for both me and my father. They were in contact with me throughout whole flight in problems. Our tour guide Tom was awesome, funny and very knowledgeable. Any issues he handled for us. Out bus drive Ray was very professional and took pride in his job. They have made a customer for life. I really appreciate what they did and answered the phone at all hours to help us. Thank you so much

Just got back from Costa Rica, with Alejandra Guevara as our tourguide and Rollo as our busdriver. This was a wonderful trip and I credit it all to Alejandra! Her knowledge, her eloquence of sharing that info, we had a few health issues crop up with our fellow travelers, she handled it with expertise and empathy. Having the layover of three days at the Barcelo Gamble Resort was a nice touch to relax and enjoy the resorts amenities and be off the bus for a bit. Good staff, welcoming and helpful, good food, and lovely grounds were found there. We were cautioned this was not the usual resort and it was older, it was fine. They only issue was the rooms could have used a deeper cleaning and we had to ask for face cloths and towels each day to have enough. That was minor compared to the experience we had traveling in this wonderful country. I would recommend this Caravan trip to all who want to travel to Central America. We were well taken care off, superior customer service.

Fantastic tours at a very affordable price point. The support from the office in Chicago when anything goes amiss is fast, efficient and memorable. Their efforts to please their tour passengers over the years has helped build their tremendously-loyal following.

This has been my third Caravan Tour and my husband has celiac and a shout out to our tour director Tom who was truly concerned about his restriction in advocating this situation as well as giving us advice and tips on the trip. Also Joel our bus driver with a spotless bus and getting us to our destinations timely. A great group of people. I have made friends on other trips who I still have but this group is special. Thank you so much Tom and Lisa frim the BROMLEY Market and caravan for a great dinner. Your friend Laura Bisignano

First time tour with Caravan and was not disappointed. After waiting 3 years for our tour to get available post COVID it was great to finally get on the road. The tour hit a lot of the highlights through the canyons and parks and was as enjoyable and relaxing as a tour could be. 2 nights per hotel stay gave us time to explore on our own and chose our meals at our times. We only had 27 people on the tour so the bus was wide open and all the on/off/luggage/"trading post" breaks moved quickly due to the smaller group. A big shout out to our guide Captain Kirk who filled us in with great info on upcoming stops as well as knowing when to give us quiet time with either a movie or music on the bus. His humor, sense of adventure and openness made him fit in with our active and fun group and saying goodbye was difficult for all of us. Will definitely consider a tour with this company again.

I requested 4 travel brochure 9 of my friends were interested in 2 tours you offer. The Grand Canyon tour as well as the New England Fall Colors tour. We wanted both this fall. I sent the brochure request 2 months ago. We were coming from different parts of the country. None of us received brochures. I called Caravan 2 days ago and was told there were no brochure's for 2023 tour season and probably no brochure's for 2024. For those of us that took the time to request your brochure. Caravan should have been courteous enough to have email us, letting us know there were no brochures coming. I called today to reconfirm as to the status of brochures for your 2024 season. I spoke with Lydia she informed me that we are now in the digital age and could have to book online. The have traveled on your tours, the reason I have is because of your beautiful brochures, that I can read and study at my leisure. Making plans with friends from all parts of the country to meet for these tours. To now have to go online to look at, study & decide while front of a computer screen for 9 people, is disappointing to say the least. Good Customer Service, I don't think so......

Mexico's copper canyon tour - It was a very disappointing tour by Caravan. I would not recommend this tour to anyone. The booklet says it is a 7 hour bus ride from El Paso to Creel where the train departs. In reality it was a 12.5 to 13 hour bus ride. It was very uncomfortable and we did it all in one day. Food was well below average , there was no options for Vegetarian food , it was was very bland and poor. They did not even have a welcome dinner on the first night in El Paso. Hotels were nice. The train ride was very uncomfortable where the heating was not working and our Executive class coach had very dirty windows where we could not see the Copper canyon from our windows. Restaurant selection was average and in many cases they provided cold lunch boxes on the train ride. Overall this trip was not worth it ... our guide was average .

Caravan Tours.... Sedona, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Lake Powell, Bryce, and Zion. This is our 6th Caravan Tour and 1st in the USA and we had a fun trip with enjoyable sites and plenty of coach time. Hotels are satisfactory for the cost but expect parking lot or rear views from your room. Most days start with luggage out at 7:00 and a departure at 8:00 following the complimentary breakfast. There was considerable traffic in Sedona accompanied with lots of people. Our 20-person tour group stayed in the Maswik Lodge at the Grand Canyon and we had complimentary breakfast there and dinner at the Arizona Restaurant. The Arizona is quiet expensive if you are on your own. We were lucky and spotted 4 California Condors at Bright Angel Trail. Monument Valley was fun while riding on the back of the seated pickup with our Navajo Indian guide who sang songs to us in her native language. I'm still trying to figure out why we stayed at Lake Powell since there is little to keep one occupied. We did take a boat trip to Glen Falls Dam, however. Bryce Canyon is interesting with spectacular views of the "hoodoos" but pales in comparison to Zion where we walked the Riverwalk Trail and the Grotto Trail. during the Zion adventure we stayed for two nights at the Fairview Inn in virgin, Utah. The hotel is very nice but located 30 minutes from Zion NP. There are no convenience stores within several miles and the nearest restaurant is over a mile away. The Fairview does not have a restaurant that serves lunch or dinner. God only knows why Caravan did not book the group at Springdale just outside of Zion and full of hotels and restaurants. Our trip ended in Las Vegas with a quick trip down "The Strip", and the group was deposited at the airport at 10:30. We chose to rent a car and drove south to Primm to see the Bonnie and Clyde "murder car" at Buffalo Bill's and returned to see Hoover Dam. Caravan trips are fun and certainly worth the cost. Our trip was $1695 and we went in early May before a cost increase...and, the summer crowds arriving.

Great group of people on the bus. We were told to sit by family/friends on first day because there would be a rotation on the bus throughout the tour. This allows family to remain together as the rotation occurs. After the first rotation we were put in the back away from our family?! Other groups seemed to remain together? There were people who always got the very back because they needed two seats. Unfortunately, one of which was coughing so much that other passengers were constantly offering cough drops. She refused and said she had them. Adding to the problem, she wouldn't wear a mask. Halfway, she felt too sick to continue and supposedly tested negative. Asymptomatic or just not showing yet, she went home. Since we were in the back during most rotations, we both tested positive when home. Fortunately, my other family, who we should have been with were never stat near us are fine. Our first Caravan tour was on a very nice bus. On this tour the bus was run down, less quality/functionality. Some seats were broken and many seatbelts didn't work. Sadly this is our last trip using Caravan. Save up some money and splurge on a better company.

We just got back from our second Caravan Tour. In 2020 we went to Costa Rica. This year, we went to Panama. Both tours were fantastic. I highly recommend both of these and Caravan. I love that all their tours have a highly knowledgeable tour guide and a great bus driver. You stay at lovely hotels and eat delicious food. I also love that everything is included in these tours other than your air fare. The meals are buffet style, so you can try a little of everything and go back for more of your favorite items at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The excursions are fantastic. You see some extraordinary things and learn a great deal about the culture of the country and the various cities/communities you visit. They also have some wonderful entertainment one or two nights of your trip. The people on these tours have all been very friendly and fun to be around. We are already trying to decide which Caravan tour we want to do next.

About the company.

Caravan Tours began selling fully escorted tours in 1952. We have been under the same management and ownership ever since. In 1965, Roger Mudd hosted a two hours CBS TV special on Caravan Tours. This TV production took about one month to make and was so successful it inspired the 1968 romantic comedy movie “If it’s Tuesday this must be Belgium.” In the early 50’s the Mayor of Dublin presented Caravan with the Key to Dublin for bringing the first American tour to the city after WWII. Since then Caravan has been recognized as a pioneer in travel.

Great Value, Book Early

Caravan’s strong buying power gives you great vacations at prices much lower than you can find anywhere. Last year many of our tours sold out quickly. Book early for the date you prefer and the best airfare.

How does Caravan Tours sell these tours for such a low cost? Caravan delivers volume to our suppliers, who in turn reward us with their very best  prices we, in turn, pass these savings on to you, and you reward us by buying our tours.  As volume continues to rise, we then receive even better prices from our suppliers, and  we pass even greater savings on to you. This year our tours are better than ever. How satisfied are Caravan clients? The short answer is “very.” Our surveys are uniformly very positive. However we  continually strive to improve our tours, (they are often updated several times in the  course of one year), we study all client surveys and suggestions for improvement very  carefully. Pitch-Free Travel : Caravan includes all activities listed in the tour itinerary page. Caravan does not  sell any optional activities which can add hundreds of dollars to your tour price. Your  free time is scheduled in great settings where there is no need to buy additional  expensive activities.

Mexico RV Caravan Tours

by admin · Published September 3, 2018 · Updated September 5, 2023

Copper Canyon, Yucatan, colonial cities and beaches of Mexico

Caravanas de Mexico is a registered Mexican tour company, catering to Americans & Canadians in both English and French and to Mexicans in Spanish. They specialize in Mexico and only Mexico.

They have been providing support services for other caravan companies for about 25 years.

They also run bus tours and provide guide services for other companies and that is still our main business, but it melds well with RV Caravans. They have been running their own caravans for many years in English & French.

Caravanas de Mexico maintains an extensive network of bilingual tour guides, many of whom have worked for us for many years, and they often travel with the caravan for segments of the trip.

Why Mexico Caravan?

Traveling with others is safer. Caravanas de Mexico trips feature both city and beach camping, plus an opportunity to explore Mexico’s spectacular Copper Canyon on some caravans (all-inclusive included).

Caravanas de Mexico usually tries to include one of Mexico’s wonderful carnival celebrations.

Their Mexico RV Caravan Tours usually depart from either Nogales, Arizona, or Mission, Texas. Depending on Wagon Master availability, there may be an option to exit at either Texas or Arizona for some of their tours.

All Tours & RV park fees are included, along with many high-class meals.

Caravanas de Mexico also gives great deals for repeat customers and has some very flexible options for those who wish to do partial trips or customized trips, etc.

Caravanas de Mexico will take people who have mobility problems, but they have to know what they are and determine if they are able to do some or all of the suggested tours.

Caravanas de Mexico will discount them for tours they feel they cannot do.

Included in Tours

All RV parks are included, plus plenty of tours & meals. Caravanas de Mexico specializes in providing this sort of caravan. They will take you to see sights you will not get to see on any other organized tour.

Caravanas de Mexico finds most customers like a mix of the traditional organized tours with good meals, and some more ad hoc adventurous things organized by their Wagon Masters.

Caravanas de Mexico utilizes toll highways as much as possible. Your chance of having an accident is far reduced.

Caravanas de Mexico tours are usually escorted by the Green Angels, the Mexican equivalent of AAA. They are excellent mechanics and are in radio contact with the police and Mexico City. They do not charge for labor, only parts.

Certain tours with only a few rigs may not have Green Angel escorts, but they can be summoned in case of problems.

The Caravanas de Mexico Caravan company offers small tours led by wagonmasters who speak  fluent French, English, and Spanish. They know Mexico inside and out. Hot off the Presses! – There is room on Spring Baja, plus Spring Copper Canyon, which has an “almost free” 2-month beach stay option. See the update page for details .

Yucatan is full for 2022 and is also full for 2023, but dropouts will occur once we ask for a deposit, i am sure. airstream road, rail & sea (baja) is full, but i believe there may be one or 2 spots open on 3 gems (colonial mexico). copper canyon 2023 is filling fast..

If the idea of spending the winter in the warm lands of Mexico appeals to you, I cordially invite you to participate in our next RV Caravan. This caravan will focus on training new Wagon Masters and updating experienced ones. The caravan will be led by our Canadian partner Paul Beddows. Details of upcoming trips on site. 2022 is pretty much full. But there ARE still a few openings and cancellations happening for various reasons.  Hie thee over to the Caravanas website and see if this is your lucky day. They keep the groups small, preferring quality over quantity. That’s rare these days. If you are really lucky, Santa may reward you with a Yucatan opening.

Go to their website  and look at the calendar. Their site is in  English, French, and Spanish.

Some RV caravan companies’ businesses are cookie-cutter, focused on the cheapest (and often booziest) experience they can sell you. I admire anyone who leads a group of potentially unruly RV’ers down Mexico’s highways. I just wouldn’t go with some of them.  Mexico RV Caravans (Caravanas de Mexico)  are different. If they have to spend extra money to give you a great experience, they will. businessThat’s why I endorse Caravanas de Mexic

To caravan or go solo?

It’s a matter of preference. Mexico is safe for RV’ers so people don’t caravan because of fear. They caravan because they like the experience. If you can’t get on with Caravanas, rather than take a lesser quality caravan company, you might consider driving yourself.

For your first drive to Mexico , being part of a caravan is comforting. Someone else makes the decisions, handles the check-ins, and arranges the tours. Plus you can make friends at the social events held every night.

But — if you go by yourself, you are not alone. If you get one of Mexico Mike’s famous road logs, you will have a friend on the front seat who’s driven your route and can point out what is worth seeing and what to avoid. With the modern toll roads, mile-by-mile directions are not really needed. Directions to RV parks are clear. And you have the advantage of going at your own pace.

Yucatan, independence road, beaches ..., welcome to caravanas de mexico , in solidarity with you to face the covid-19 pandemic together.

Caravanas de Mexico RV tours S.A. de C.V is a Mexican Travel Agency specializing in organizing RV Caravan Tours in Mexico. Our first priority with the current Covid-19 crisis was to ensure all our current caravans inside Mexico were safely escorted out of the country and our customers safely on their way home. We accomplished this successfully during the last 2 weeks of March.

The Republic of Mexico is currently in Phase 3 of its national emergency (April 21). The peak of the pandemic appears to be manifesting itself a bit later than is the case in the United States. We are therefore suspending our operations from the end of March until the 30 of May, 2020. We will re-assess the position at that date. We fully intend to run all our scheduled programs for the 2020/2021 season at this time. As we have done for the past 30 years we will operate as conditions allow, and serve our customers to the best of our abilities.

We hope, as all of us do, that this unprecedented situation resolves by the summer, and we can resume our plans and schedules for the upcoming season, which starts by the end of November 2020. Our first priority is, and always has been, the safety of our customers. We thank you for your understanding. Gabriel Romero. CEO, Caravanas de Mexico.

What our clients say about us ( interviews and testimonials ), danielle - full time rving.

What prompted you to do this caravan?  I had previously visited Baja California in my van, but I wanted to see the mainland of Mexico, and I was concerned about safety traveling alone. That concern has been alleviated.

Larry & Anne, retired

What is your impressions of the caravan?  This is our first time with a caravan. The people we have met and the tours we have taken far surpass our expectations. We are amazed at the beauty of areas of the country.

Have you felt safe traveling around Mexico?  Absolutely. We decided that we wanted to see Mexico as part of a safe and escorted trip. The Green Angels were more than helpful when they accompanied us.

Testimonials

"Caravanas de Mexico conducts tours in 5 different languages, including English, French, Spanish. Most importantly, Sr. Romero and his crew know and understand Mexico and are likely to give you a Mexican perspective that might be missing from similar trips run by other caravan operators. To me, that makes his tours twice as valuable". This testimonial is from Mexico Mike, who is considered one of the main "Gurus" for Mexico

We just got back from a fabulous 3 month Caravan Trip thru Mexico. Sure there were problems along the way that arose and were solved by working together. When we got home and received our MasterCard statement, we were horrified. There was an extra charge of $615.55 (8000 pesos) on it from a Pemex station in Los Mochis. We tried dealing with BMO ourselves, but without a receipt, we got nowhere, also got no results at phoning the Pemex head office. Got a hold of our Wagon Master, Paul Beddows. We were going to go to the police , but Paul took it upon himself to try and get a hold of the Pemex station we stopped at. lt was strange at that station, they would not take cash ,only credit card- He sent them al our info in Spanish, bank statement etc, which had our credit card #s on, but we had already cancelled those #'s. After 2 weeks of not hearing anything, we went back to BMO again. Still no results from them, so Paul on our behalf sent an email to the BMO ombudsman. ln the meantime I was doing an extra cleaning job on our Motorhome for another trip & found the receipt from the gas station. Now what! Got a hold of Paul again, sent him the copy of the receipt, he then sent it to the ombudsman. Got a phone call from BMO they would look into it. A week later I phoned them to find out what the score was, they agreed to reimburse us of the $615.55, as we were good and valued customers. I don't know whether they did anything about Pemex or not, but if it was not for Paul Beddows stepping up to the plate on our behalf we would have been dooped. Remember it is very important to insist on a receipt if using a credit card & put it in a safe place. Thank you Paul ! Spring 2016 spring Caravan

I am a 68 year old single female who travels in a Class B vehicle. This was my first caravan and it exceeded my expectations. I got to see and tour so much more of Mexico than I would on my own. This caravan also helped to alleviate the "safety issue" about traveling in Mexico. I would not hesitate to come back to the areas visited on my own. My traveling companions were very receptive to a single person traveling alone and I never felt left out because of that factor. With this company you get what you pay for. All RV parks fees are included as well as all tours and a lot of higher end meals. The wagon master and green Angels are there in case of emergencies and all the routes are planned for you. What more can you ask for I felt that I received a lot for the amount charged. Spring 2016 spring Caravan

The main attraction to the Mexico RV caravan was a visit to the Copper Canyon with the safety of traveling with group of other RVers. Our wagon masters proved to be great guides and we were able to see ares of Mexico we would have never traveled on our own. Excellent experience. Spring 2016 spring Caravan

Wonderful ...I cannot express how great the people involved with this RV Caravan was from start to finish. Wagon Masters - outstanding. No complaints, only praise I have never done so much or had so much fun on a tour and this is the third one I have been on. I would like to give great praise to Charlie. (note Charlie is our Copper canyon Guide)...When I was asked to have someone ride with me I had reservations, even though I am pretty easy going. Charlie was the most intelligent supportive and knowledgeable person I have ever had the pleasure to meet. If I could have had a son I would wish he were exactly like Charlie. Spring 2016 short Caravan

I would recommend any trip of this type. Fall 2015 Caravan (small 4 rig caravan).

This RV tour is well worth the cost. The assistance at every step of the way was invaluable: Helping with the vehicle entry at 21 km; Getting us from one campsite/RV park to the next; Tour guides that helped us see and enjoy things at every stop that otherwise would have been missed/overlooked. Fall 2014 Caravan (note this was a small 3 rig trip to establish a new route)

Overall the caravan was a rewarding experience. We thank you for your efforts. Spring 2014

Speed was not kept consistent. There were rigs that were not keeping up to the caravan which causes a bit of hostility at times. Tequilla tour was disappointing, the factory was boring and no time to see the city. The country tour from Mazatlan was fantastic, very interesting and entertaining, a picture of the true Mexico Juan Carlos our guide was EXCELLENT. Copper Canyon was excellent and lunch in the country was special. Spring 2014

The planned tours and meals were great most of time so thanks. Yves was wonderful and I enjoyed him very much. Green angles were a real comfort to have. If you can fix communication between vehicles--great. Could not hear sometimes. The fact that we had GREAT travel companions made the trip better. Spring 2014

What a wonderful trip. The experience exceeded our expectations! The tours kept us busy and well informed about the areas we were visiting. The Green Angels were a wonderful addition. Great fun, great people, great memories! Spring 2014

Great introduction to Mexico. Clarified border procedures and took care of road routing and campground selection. We totally enjoyed the Mexican experience - friendly, happy people and we never had a hassle anywhere. Be prepared to explore at each of the stops - there is so much to see and join in - especially the food. Spring 2014

Our Wagon Master, Yves, was excellent! He was a caring and concerned leader and helped out in so many ways with so many different problems, along with being so knowledgeable and helping with RV problems etc! He was personable and well liked! He really made this Caravan work well! Yves, you are the best there is in the business! Spring 2014

" We just want to thank you, and your team for the marvellous time we had and allowing us to join the Airstream caravan last January despite our physical challenges. Caravanas de Mexico went out of their way to make our adventure an experience of a lifetime. Food was spectacular, tour guides were wonderful, Michael and Louise were the best wagon masters you could ask for. The Ballet and Carnival were amazing and have made all our friends and family jealous. "

Is Mexico Cheap?

In a word, no. It is amazing how many people still think you can do Mexico on $10 a day. Mexico has a strong economy and the Peso has been rising rapidly against both the US and Canadian dollar, making it more expensive. 2 years ago you could get 22 pesos per US dollar, today it is more like 16. A decent restaurant meal with one drink will cost $15 to $20 per person and RV park fees now average about $40 US a night for full hookups. Fuel is about the same as in Canada, more than the US (about $5 US per gallon or $1.80 Canadian a liter) and road tolls are the highest on the planet. If our trips seem expensive, this is why. They are still cheaper than RV tours in the US or to Alaska, but they are not that cheap anymore as we cannot run at a loss, obviously, and we want to maintain quality.

Why take a Mexico RV Caravan?

1) Unless you are a Golf or Pickleball addict you may have noticed Arizona can become rather boring. Consider expanding your horizons with a Mexico RV Caravan. Warm weather, beaches, ancient ruins, Colonial Cities - Mexico has it all. 2) Safety in numbers. I am betting when I say that, you are thinking cartels. Actually, they are not a concern. Physical hazards, etc. are the main concerns. 3) You will learn to handle the "sometimes-daunting" paperwork involved. 4) You do not have to worry about reservations and dealing in another language 5) Mexico does not have large RV parking lots at attractions. An RV Caravan will deal with all of that. 6) You will see the “Real Mexico”, not the tourist version. 7) You may find that perfect spot to return to on your own, in future 8) Our Wagon Masters know the roads, routes and parks that can accommodate your RV, especially larger rigs. 9) You will learn about how to prepare your rig for Mexico. 10) You will no doubt make some new lifelong friends 11) Sign up for our Newsletter 12) Download our latest brochure Here

Why choose Caravanas de Mexico  for your Mexican RV Caravan?

1) Are we the cheapest? No, but we are competitive. Since we are based in Mexico we do not pay Gringo prices. This enables us to devote more resources to a quality experience. For example, one of our competitors charges 50% of our 37 day Baja trip cost, for a 7 day trip. When you compare us with others, look beyond price. Look for the word "optional" in their itineraries. What looks cheaper may not in fact, be cheaper. We could lower our prices by doing Taco stands instead of proper meals, etc, but we provide a quality tour, not an ad hoc one. We pay our wagon masters a fixed daily rate so they have no motivation to cut financial corners. We generally offer more tours and activities than our competitors 2) We are the only Mexico RV Caravan company, fully registered and licensed to operate inside Mexico.  To be quite frank that makes us the only one actually operating 100% legally. (For more info on this click here. ) This also provides us access to a lot of  resources our competitors do not have. Green Angel (like AAA) escorts, access to government tourism officials, and even the police in some areas. We pay taxes in Mexico and our company principals live full time in Mexico. We receive alerts about road conditions or any other problems before we enter an area through our large group of local guides and the Green Angels. No other company has this sort of network.  Before you use a competitor, ask what they do if you have an accident or breakdown. Do they have access to resources, and can they deal in Spanish or deal with the police? We can and do. 3) We use fully certified bilingual tour guides, some are Phd’s, or even retired professors of history or archaeology. We do not rely on our Wagon Masters to do our local tours, as some of our competitors do. Do you think you will get a proper tour of a Mayan ruin from a Wagon Master who has read a book on it? It is actually illegal in Mexico. Paid tours have to be led by a Mexican resident or citizen with a work pemit. It is not easy to be certified as a tour guide.  They are well paid, but you should expect to receive an accurate education about the site you are visiting. To be fair, some competitors will hire a local guide, they have even contracted tours out to us in the past, and that is quite acceptable. We only use guides familiar with the local area. While a wagon master may be quite informed, there is no way he can compare with a certified guide who actually lives in the area.  We are the largest operator in Mexico and cover the entire country from Baja to the Guatemalan border. 4) We have the highest repeat customer ratio in the industry. In the 2021/2022 season we had 8 repeat customers for example. Some of our customers end up becoming Wagon Masters for us. 5) We are the first choice by RV clubs to run Mexican RV Caravans for them. So far, Airstream, LTD and Roadtrek. 6) Your safety is our primary concern. We are one of the few companies that put customer safety first, and suspended caravans during Covid. 7) We have provided contractor services to our competitors in the past 8) We operate Caravans in both English and French. We have also run caravans for various clubs and specialty Caravans. For French Caravans, see Info . 9) We provide quality hot sit down meals with our local tours, except in cases where it is in a very remote location. Add up meals provided by our competitors and compare. As for local tours, are our competitors counting all tours in a single excursion or as separate? The tip off for that is if the number of tours is close to or exceeds the days of the trip. How often does the word "optional" appear in their schedule? 10) We will take you to places on some trips you will never get to on your own, or even know about. 11) Although we price in USD, we accept both US and Canadian dollars, saving Canadians exchange rate hits. We can accept checks in either currency or Canadian e-transfers. We discount 2% on payments not made with a credit card. 12) Since some of our Wagon Masters and Assistants are Mexican or Mexican/American, we offer free Spanish lessons on many tours 13) We have always had an unwritten policy of pushing people ahead a season if they have to cancel. None of our competitors do that. We may charge a small service fee, or if close to departure, any money we have had to put out in advance, like hotels & trains. We get you eventually that way, and we have done this several times in the past. For exmaple we had one customer whose son overdosed and had to go into rehab. It prevented them from going, but not the following year. So we kept a customer and happy one at that. 14) Follow  Angie and Ronda on our Spring 2022 Yucatan Adventure. Warts included. Common questions about RVing in Mexico

We always get asked some common questions concerning taking an RV into Mexico and RV Tourism in Mexico in general, so let's get the main ones' out of the way up front. 1) Is Mexico Safe? Answer: Yes. Most people's fears are a result of being in a country with a different language and laws. Using our caravans will aleviate that problem, as things are taken care of for you. Mexico is a country full of cultural riches, and it is an easy drive from the United Ststes. What are you waiting for? Let us take care of it for you. 2) Is it safe to take my RV to Mexico? Answer: Yes. We have been taking RV's all over Mexico for a decade with no safety issues. The biggest risks are not Bandido's or Cartels, the biggest risk is knowing where you can physically take your rig with no issues. 3) Are there RV Parks in Mexico? Answer: Yes, plenty of them. Not all up to American standards, but quite usable. 4) Are roads in Mexico good for RV's? Answer: Yes & No. Mexico has modern freeways and not so modern backroads. One big advantage of a Mexican RV Caravan tour is that we know where it is OK & where it is not. Especially for larger RV's 5) Are there restrictions on what vehicle I can bring in? Yes, you cannot bring in a vehicle that shows it is salvaged. You can have issues with Pickups over an F150 (We can solve that) and if your vehicle has a lien that i sindictaed on the registration, you will have to provide permission from the lender. If the vehicle is in a company name you need a letter of permission even it it is your own company. We have a far more detailed section on this site where we try and answer all your questions concerning RVing in Mexico. See the "Details" tab Fuel prices are similar to Western Canada. How we operate

We attempt to keep travel days as short as possible, but you do have to expect some longer days. We do not want to boondock in gas stations unless it becomes necessary. We want to make sure you are in a campground or RV Park at each stop. We will use the best one available at each location, but keep in mind that they will not all be up to US or Canadian standards. We do local tours at most of our stops, some are just beach stops, others include activities and local attractions. Remember this is Mexico, think of it as an adventure and you will have a great unique RV Caravan experience.

Mexico and Taxes and our Prices

We are a reputable company and we pay our taxes in Mexico. You do not have to pay any sales tax or GST in the US or Canada when you pay us. Unfortunately, there is a persistent culture in Mexico of avoiding taxes. If we ask for a receipt for expenses for RV Parks or restaurant etc., we are often hit with a 15% surcharge to offset any taxes those businesses have to pay as a result. This is most often done with a blindside when we go to settle up. This increases our costs considerably, but we still try to hold our prices down as low as we can without compromising our quality. Our prices are very competitive when you compare other companies with what you get from us. They may be slightly higher, but you get the biggest bang for your buck. The customer Information Manual below is only available to deposit making customers.

Trip Cancelation and Interuption Insurance

This up to you. We did have one customer have to claim on it, and we had a customer have an accident 1 day into a trip, and his vehicle had be returned to the US. Although we do what we can, on some trips we have put out a lot of money in advance. In that instance, they did not have insurance to cover this, so were out the portion we could not rebate. Some options are on our Insurance Page

Travel Medical Insurance.

If you feel 75K or 100K USD is sufficient for Mexico, VisitorSecure under this is quite inexpensive. Canadians can sign up once they are not physically in Canada. Click Banner.

Wagonmaster

Most RV caravans have a Wagonmaster who heads out first ensuring all reservations for RV Parks or excursions are ready for their customers when they arrive.  The RV owners are given advice as to what direction, the best route, sights to see along the way and given a suggested arrival time at that days destination.

Following the group is a tail gunner who follows along to ensure anyone with any difficulty whether it is regarding breakdowns or accidents are given the services they need to continue with the tour.  The tail gunner is most often an experienced mechanic or Rver with tools and skills to assist as much as possible.  This ensures no one in the group is left sitting along a highway with a breakdown and not able to communicate their need to the group.

Price Includes

Of course each RV caravan tour company is different but for the most part RV Park fees and reservations are included in the tour price.  Some other features usually included are:

  • Trip logs (maps)
  • Services of Wagonmaster and Tailgunner
  • Emergency medical assistance insurance
  • Fees for border crossings and visas
  • Side excursions (pre-arranged)
  • Organized social hours at the end of each day
  • Trip preparation packet and check list

They do NOT include the cost of the RV if you are renting one, fuel, food and personal expenses.  When booking your trip ask questions and be sure you know exactly what you are getting for your money.

Although we have not utilized the services of the following companies my research has indicated that they are reputable and reliable.  Do your own research also and see if they offer what you may be looking for.

We are planning to travel to New Zealand to rent motorhomes with another couple in March 2016. Tracks to Adventure no longer seems to exist as a separate entity and that leaves only Fantasy, however their tour includes Australia, not a problem for us but our friends have not shown any interest in that part.

Are you aware of any NZ only caravan packages offered there that we might look into. Web search is daunting as there are so many offers that it is confusing. As an alternative we might consider just doing it the way we travel the US – on our own.

Hi Paul, Nice to hear from you. I am not aware of specific caravan companies in NZ but will see what I can come up with. Maybe one of our readers may be able to help us. Will let you know if I find anything.

Paul, my husband and I rented RV’s in New Zealand for 6 weeks and traveled both islands on our own. Even though we had never experienced a motorhome before, we found it very delightful. The people there are so very friendly and helpful, and we felt very safe. I had written an extensive blog on the journey if you care to read it http://www.TravelTalesOfNormAndAlison.com Click the Tab on New Zealand 2009, then Click on the down arrows on the right, and read the blog from the bottom up. ( The blog is posted most recent entries on top ). Don’t be afraid to do this on your own.

Are you still traveling? If you are interested in writing a post about your travels I may post it on my blog with a link within your bio to your own blog. If interested let me know. Thank you.

We are planning 2 longer (54 days & 82 day)Mexican caravans this season (2014/2015), both will include Copper Canyon & the Monarch Butterfly preserve. Itinerary is at http://www.mexicorvbuddies.com/itinerary.php

Thanks for the information Paul, I would be interested in learning more about your tours – why don’t you put together something telling us about Mexico and we can share it with those readers who are interested in learning more. To everyone, I have not participated or have any affiliation with this tour group but am willing to learn more. Anyone else?

First of all, Baja & Back is now out of business. Barry Monkman tragically died of a heart attack, & his wife, Vonda, decided not to carry on.

This spring a new company is doing a 71 day tour of Mexico’s west coast as far as Puerto Vallarta. It includes tours of Copper Canyon & much more. Starts Jan 12, 2013. See http://www.mexicorvbuddies.com . The caravan will be escorted by The Green Angels and led by an experienced Wagon Master couple. Since this is the first trip for this company (They have organized caravans in Quebec for 25 years), the price is only $3350 per rig, about 1/2 the cost of other competitors.

Thanks for the update Paul. I knew that Barry had passed away and am really sorry for his wife and family. I will remove their link from my list since Vonda has decided not to continue with the business.

Thanks for the link to your site – I have no problem sharing it with my readers. Good luck with it and please keep in touch and let us know how it is doing.

Yes it was a shock, Vonda & I grew up in the same small town in northern BC (Smithers) and I knew both of them well.

Sorry I missed read your article and thought you offered catalogues.

Have you ever visited eastern Canada in the Atlantic Provinces in particular Nova Scotia.

I know the folks at Adventure Caravan-Ron and Juanita Khon-the owners. They do a beautiful job of advertising the Atlantic Provinces with their tours.

Everyone in this area of Canada are always welcoming to those folks and any others that visit.

In this area in particular there is a new campground coming to life -Parkville Campground,Noel, Nova Scotia-with very enthusiastic young owners.I am trying to spread the word and be of any assisstance that is possible.

Appreciate your response. Have been traveling the loop this summer and are gathering a lot of good information for the benefit of the RVers joining our caravans. Have signed up to follow your tweets and will continue to follow the website as you provide insightful information.

We are a new RV company. This summer we are traveling our proposed route, lining up campgrounds, activities and adventures. In other words, putting together our package. As our website says, we will be covering a specific route in the southern Colorado Rockies and are only interested in small caravans so more personal attention. We will be offering our tours starting in May 2012 and hope to run 5 tours a season.

Think you sum up RV caravan touring perfectly. These are the things we hope our customers realize are important. Can you offer any ideas for marketing or any general suggestions?

Thanks Sheryl, I visited your site and your caravans definitely sound interesting. I like the idea of smaller caravans for some because of the personal attention and there are people who are more comfortable in a smaller group. Good luck with your new company – I look forward to hearing from you again. Please feel free to sign up for new updates on my blog – I try and update it often and will be putting out a newsletter in the near future.

The Perfect Adventure

We just got back from Caravan’s Costa Rica tour. It was absolutely amazing. We were a little nervous going out of country, but did not need to be. Just about everyone spoke English, and U.S. money and credit cards are accepted everywhere. We saw Sloths, monkeys, iguanas, crocodiles, macaws, and beautiful birds of all kinds. The hanging bridges were awesome. We chose to do Zip Lining on a free day and it was so exciting. Nacho, our Tour Director, was the very best. He was so knowledgeable about everything. And our bus driver, Chega, worked his magic. We couldn’t have asked for a better team to guide us through this beautiful country. We were fortunate to have great weather and a clear day to see the Arenal Volcano, and loved the coffee plantation and oxcart tours. Thank You again to Nacho and Chega for making this adventure perfect. Pura Vida. Diane Egbert ️️️

I went along with my best friend to Costa Rica on the Natural Paradise Caravan Tour over Easter week 2024. The trip and whole experience were completely amazing!! We made so many amazing memories, learned so much about the history and culture of Costa Rica. Our tour guide Jose Castillo and our bus driver Mario were just the best!! Cannot say enough about the service you receive. What an amazing trip and experience!!! So much thanks to Jose and Mario, you are amazing!!! Highly recommend Caravan and Costa Rica!!

Tour director Yanira Espinoza was excellent taking care of us last March 19,2024 Mexico Copper Canyon tour, charming, respectful and tells interesting facts and information. Our hotels especially in Hotel Posada Hidalgo El Fuerte was marvelous!

Took the Costa Rica group tour with Caravan Tours. It is a budget friendly, no frills tour that you are going to get what you paid for. Would I take another Caravan Tours? No, never again! If you have food allergies or are gluten free, this is not the tour for you as they will not accommodate your requests at all. Our tour director was a dud. He walked away all the time and was on his phone an awful lot for a tour director. He even fell asleep at one of our stops. Very disinterested! I asked him why we had to sit at the back of the bus two days in a row. He knew I was not happy so he walked away when I said the bus rotation was not equitable. You just lost a big tip! The first hotel we stayed had nice common grounds but the rooms were sorely lacking with nasty carpet and stained comforters. Our tour director tried to also downplay everything like drinking tap water was safe and that the bars on buildings was not due to crime. Honestly, I think he thought were were naive enough to believe him. Save your money and go to an nice all-inclusive resort or a nicer tour group!!

Amazing trip. The trip leader Yani and the driveri were great, They made the trip. The scenery didn't hurt. The group was wonderful.

We went on a Caravan tour with Paul as our guide extraordinaire. It was ecology, history and policy along with Paul's insights, experience and sharp wit. The price paid was not for a guided tour. It was tuition for an immersive cultural experience! Pura vida. 🤙
