Seek the Best of Spring CruiseS
Get ready to immerse yourself in the magic of white sandy beaches and turquoise waters.
Ready, Set, Beach
If your ideal spring break involves ample beach time, Grand Bahama Island is the place for you, with beautiful, crystalline beaches like Fortune Beach and Gold Rock Beach. In Phillipsburg on St. Maarten, don't miss a stroll and swim along the Great Bay Beach Promenade, with the sea's bright azure waters glimmering nearby. If you want to get pretty in pink, dip your toes in the pink-sand shores of Bermuda at Horseshoe Bay Beach.
TURF THEN SURF
When you're done shopping and feasting on local cuisine, head to the water to surf, snorkel or dive. If surfing is your style, head to Macao Beach in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic . If you're looking to dive, jump into one of the Cayman Islands' 365 dive sites, including Eden Rock, which has several swim-throughs and small caverns. For some of the best snorkeling in the Caribbean, cruise over to the reef at Cupecoy Beach in St. Maarten.
While you may never tire of the tropical beaches in the Caribbean, you can also partake in adventurous land activities on your spring break cruise. Check out the Thrill Waterpark at Royal Caribbean’s private island Perfect Day at CocoCay, where you'll find the tallest waterslide in North America. Or head over to Labadee in Haiti to visit Arawak Aqua Park and bounce with your friends or the kids on enormous water trampolines. If you're searching for something a little different, step into the past at historic San Juan in Puerto Rico.
Adventure's Heating Up
From the Southern ports of New Orleans, Galveston and Miami, you'll embark on the adventure of a lifetime in destinations like Mexico and St. Maarten.
Grand Escape
There's no better place than the Bahamas to experience spring break. Grand Bahama Island will stun you with its beautiful beaches and reef-lined coves, and you'll have the Perfect Day at CocoCay* , where you'll find thrilling waterslides and breathtaking views of the ultra-blue waves. Or relax on Chill Island, home to the Bahamas' first over-water cabanas.
Take Some Time Travel
Embrace both the city and the sea in St. Kitts' Basseterre, where you'll find historic sites like St. George's Anglican Church nearby the bright-blue waters. Stop in Labadee, Haiti, where you can go on a tropical jungle trek through Arawak Aqua Park, home to the world's longest over-water zip line.
Am Mayan Heaven?
With its beachfront pedestrian path and beach club for shore excursions, Puerto Costa Maya was definitely built with cruise guests in mind. Lounge in one of the many seaside hammocks, or explore the Mayan ruins of Chacchoben for a glimpse of history. In Cozumel, visit San Gervasio, the area's largest ancient Mayan site, before snorkeling or swimming with dolphins at Chankanaab National Park.
Thrill or Chill
Whether you want adventure, romance or relaxation, there's a spring cruise just waiting for you.
Spring Into Adventure
For a spring break vacation filled with friends or family, and adventure, cruise to the west, you'll find ancient Mayan Ruins and fantastic snorkeling opportunities in the ports of Belize City and Cozumel . And to experience the awe of the world's second-largest barrier reef, head to Roatan . These expeditions and adventures are sure to give you the spring break thrills you're looking for.
Relax to the Max
Kick back and relax on a Caribbean cruise to St. Maarten , where plane spotting and beach hopping are the most popular pastimes. If lazing by the beach is the aim of your spring break game, a cruise to St. Thomas, Labadee and St. Kitts will suit you to a tee. Otherwise, shop up a storm in Bermuda's Somers Wharf Shopping Complex, where you can surely find the pair of Bermuda shorts you've been searching for.
WHAT TO KNOW BEFORE YOU GO When it comes to having the best time ever, spring break is queen. But be sure to plan ahead to make the most of your adventure.
Looking for the best ways to get around the Caribbean? Many ports offer water taxis between towns and beaches, so be sure to explore in style. If you want to stay on land, a taxi is the easiest way to get around, as public transportation can be lacking in some areas.
To stay connected with friends and family back home, make sure you purchase VOOM, the fastest internet on a cruise , prior to your cruise.

Cheap Caribbean Cruises - Cruises to Caribbean
Featured caribbean cruise deals, cruising guide, why cruise to the caribbean.
Thousands of islands make up the Caribbean, a tropical region stretching across the Atlantic Ocean. Home to some of the most popular cruise ports in the world, the Caribbean offers variations on a theme: sun, white-sand beaches and fun with a local twist, depending on the port. From Dutch and French isles to U.S. territories, the destinations of the Caribbean have cultural experiences to spare that extend well beyond the tip of the umbrella in your fruity cocktail.
A cruise offers the chance to visit multiple islands within the span of a few days, providing visitors with a sampler of new places plus balmy sea breezes along the way. Caribbean cruises offer endless variety giving vacationers the chance to get away for a long weekend or two weeks. With so many departure ports, your ship to the Caribbean might be a short flight or even a drive away.
What are Popular Activities in the Caribbean?
The Caribbean offers as much -- or as little – as you want to do during your time ashore, making it an ideal cruise vacation for families or for couples.
Water sports are abundant in the Caribbean and anyone who likes spending time in the sea will enjoy snorkeling, diving, paddleboarding and swimming through clear, turquoise waters like the remote beaches of Bonaire. Or fly high through the sky on a number of active zipline courses, including the steepest zipline in the world in St. Maarten. Lazily lounging on the beach is almost always a fantastic option. Pair a beach day with a hike on a day trip from St. Thomas to Virgin Island National Park in St. John.
If you need a break from the sun, air-conditioned island tours, duty-free shopping trips and even scenic rail trips -- such as the one around St. Kitts -- provide wonderful ways to spend a day off the ship.
All-inclusive lovers will be able to pamper themselves with excursions to resorts, while those looking for a more local flavor will be able to learn from chefs, artisans and other experts for an authentic taste of each island's culture
When is a Good Time to Cruise to the Caribbean?
Winter and spring are great seasons to travel to the Caribbean due to a slight reduction in crowds and moderate temperatures, though the warm weather holds year-round here.
Atlantic hurricane season, from June through October, means a higher chance of rain and possible storms, though summer is still one of the most popular times to visit the Caribbean. If you book a summer sailing in a Caribbean region within the hurricane zone, there's a chance nothing will happen -- but buying insurance and keeping a flexible schedule helps manage expectations.
What are Popular Ports in the Caribbean?
Cozumel, St. Thomas, Grand Cayman and St. Martin/Maarten are some of the most common ports of call in the Caribbean. You could also experience Jamaica, Cuba, Aruba, Grand Turk or the Dominican Republic. Many Caribbean cruises also include stops at private islands, such as Royal Caribbean's CocoCay or Disney's Castaway Cay, located in The Bahamas.
Where do Caribbean cruises depart from?
Caribbean cruises depart from ports around the U.S., including San Juan, Puerto Rico. Many of the top Caribbean cruise departure ports are located in Florida: Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa and Orlando.
Elsewhere on the East Coast and Gulf Coast, Caribbean sailings depart from Baltimore, Manhattan, Galveston, New Orleans, Mobile and more. Caribbean islands and itinerary lengths will vary, depending on where you sail from and where you're sailing to.
What are Popular Regions of the Caribbean?
Choose from Eastern, Western or Southern Caribbean itineraries. You’ll primarily find the U.S. Virgin Islands -- St. Thomas, St. Croix and St. John -- on Eastern Caribbean sailings, as well as St. Maarten/Martin and the Dominican Republic. The ABC Islands (Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao) are featured on Southern Caribbean cruises. Western Caribbean cruises often include ports in Mexico and Jamaica, along with Belize and Grand Turk.
Lengths also vary -- Western Caribbean itineraries can be limited to just a few days for those who want a quick getaway or don't have time for longer sailings. Southern Caribbean sailings tend to last at least 10 nights, and these often depart from San Juan. Eastern Caribbean sailings are typically a week long.
What are Tips to Find Cruise deals to the Caribbean?
Here are our best tips for finding a cheap cruise or cruise deal to the Caribbean. If you book a “guaranteed cabin” (they select for you), a cabin on a lower deck or sail on an older ship from a brand you like, then you can get the best price for a specific cruise to the Caribbean. Last minute cruises deals to the Caribbean appear as you get closer to the sail date, usually 1-2 weeks in advance. Taking a cruise to the Caribbean in the shoulder season (before or after the peak season) can also be a great way to find a cruise deal.

2023-2024 Caribbean Cruises
Our new 2023-2024 Caribbean season is our most exciting yet, because our next Edge® Series ship, Celebrity Ascent, is debuting in the islands. There’s no better place for a ship designed to connect you more closely than ever to the sea and all the sun-soaked places on the horizon. But that’s just the start, because with Celebrity Ascent, we’ll have eight stunning ships covering the Caribbean—including three revolutionary Edge Series ships—from the colorful reefs of Belize to the white sands of St. Lucia. Choose from a wide variety of sailings ranging from 4 to 11 nights for just the right amount of island time, departing from Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and Tampa. Plus, we’ve added the new port of Scarborough, Tobago to our already impressive lineup of tropical destinations, and we’ve brought back a popular double-overnight stay in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. There are so many amazing Caribbean sailings this season, you might want to book more than one.
Itineraries
Returning port, scarborough, tobago.
Scarborough is steeped in history going back to the 1600s, and the British, Dutch, and French all left their mark here. That history comes to life at Fort King George, built in 1781, with its well-preserved prison, canons, and other intriguing relics. Nature lover? The Nylon Pool is your ideal escape. It’s a naturally formed swimming area in the middle of the sea created by an offshore sandbar. Nearby Buccoo Reef is a great place to snorkel. Not to be outdone, Pigeon Point Beach and the Main Ridge Forest Reserve offer even more natural beauty to enjoy.

The Best Caribbean Cruises 2023—With Stops at Rugged Volcanic Islands, Tropical Forests, and Serene Beaches
By Scott Laird
All products featured on Condé Nast Traveler are independently selected by our editors. However, when you buy something through our retail links, we may earn an affiliate commission.
Caribbean cruises have long been a favorite with travelers for their picture-postcard attributes. White sand beaches front turquoise waters. But these tropical itineraries have something for every type of traveler. Activities abound—perhaps it’s shopping on one island, hiking through nature reserves and snorkeling among coral reefs on another, or having a beach day on a cruise company’s private retreat. Many Caribbean itineraries skew toward tried-and-true standards, but a number of cruise lines will have a handful of unique sailings put together for particular tastes or the seasoned cruiser who has already tried them all.
Some of these sailings visit offbeat destinations like volcanic Montserrat, while others take a non-traditional southern track from Panama along the northern coast of South America. Others visit sleepier, less-frequented destinations like St. Croix, St. Barts, and Mayreau, in addition to stopping at banner spots like St. Lucia and Aruba for dramatic vistas and spectacular beaches.
Here are some of the best Caribbean cruises to book for 2023.
Seven Seas Splendor ventures to some of the Caribbean's most iconic isles.
Regent Seven Seas Cruises
Itinerary: Sunny Beaches & Emerald Forests
Departure: March 11, 2023
Experience: This 10-night sailing from Miami embarks on Regent Seven Seas' newest ship, Seven Seas Splendor , for a leisurely sail through the Caribbean’s windward isles. Hike to waterfalls in Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, explore Puerto Rico’s El Yunque National Forest, or relax on a sailboat excursion off minute St. Barts , which Splendor is right-sized to visit. Take an aerial tram through the rainforest canopy on St. Lucia or snorkel Champagne Reef on Dominica, watching bubbles and warmth rise from geothermal activity beneath the ocean floor. Excursions are included in the cruise fare with Regent—as are beverages, gratuities, transfers, specialty dining, Wi-Fi, and laundry service.
Itinerary: Panama, Colombia, & Caribbean Islands
Departure: March 9 and 17, 2023
Experience: Voyage from the gates of the Panama Canal to the French West Indies, with a wealth of diversity in between. Experience Afro-Caribbean heritage in Portobelo, Panama, and Indigenous Kuna fishing communities in the San Blas Islands. Next, it’s on to Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, and then the coral reefs of Bonaire for diving. The spices of Grenada and St. Lucia’s volcanic pitons round out the itinerary before the intimately appointed ship Le Bellot (with fewer than 92 staterooms and suites) anchors in the turquoise waters of Fort-de-France for a fond farewell.
Celebrity Beyond 's Luminae Restaurant
Celebrity Cruises
Itinerary: Southern Caribbean
Departure: December 11, 2023
Experience: Offering a little of everything, this 11-night roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale includes calls at cobblestoned Cartagena, Colombia, the white-sand beaches of Aruba, and the famous colonial houses and swinging drawbridge of Curaçao. As an added bonus, Grand Cayman and Falmouth, Jamaica, also appear as ports to help break up the long journey south from Florida. The sailing takes place onboard the brand-new Celebrity Beyond , packed full of original art, Infinite Veranda staterooms—so-named for the floor-to-ceiling windows that open into a private balcony at the push of a button—and ocean-going gastronomy at Le Voyage, Chef Daniel Boulud’s first signature restaurant at sea.
Windstar Cruises
Itinerary: Windward Ways & Tobago Cays
Departure: January, February, November, and December 2023
Experience: Almost purpose-designed for cruisers who prefer their shore excursions to be on or in the water, this seven-day sailing onboard Windstar's Star Legend starts in the Dutch islands, offering up serene Aruba’s white-sand beaches and tranquil Bonaire’s 50 species of coral. “Isle of Spice” Grenada is next (nutmeg ice cream is a must-try), followed by spectacular vistas of the Grand Pitons on “seven times French; seven times British” St. Lucia. Mayreau is the smallest of the Grenadines—here cruisers can enter the water directly from Star Legend’s water-sports platform, then wind up the day with a private beach barbecue.
Valiant Lady will operate Caribbean cruises in spring and winter 2023.
Virgin Voyages
Itinerary: Eastern Caribbean Antilles
Emily Zemler
Lauren Dana Ellman
Departure: January, February, March, November, and December 2023
Experience: St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands is a less-trafficked port of call known as the “Garden of the Antilles” and Valiant Lady drops in during her Eastern Caribbean sailings, in addition to San Juan , Puerto Plata, and a day at Virgin’s lounge-y Beach Club at Bimini private island. Onboard, Wi-Fi and “essential” non-alcoholic drinks and gratuities are included on the adults-only ship, which touts over 20 eateries and a number of inventive ways to find a glass of champagne.
Holland America Line
Itinerary: 11 Day Panama Canal Sunfarer
Departure: March 14, 2023
Experience: Part Caribbean surf, part jungle excursion, this 11-day roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale onboard Eurodam calls first at Aruba and Curaçao for a taste of Holland America Line’s namesake Dutch culture before skirting the coast of South America for several days of scenic cruising the Panama Canal and Gatun Lake, taking in the maximum biodiversity (over 500 species of birds) of the Canal Zone, juxtaposed with the engineering wonders of the lock system.
A Signature Suite on board Evrima
Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection
Itinerary: Bridgetown Roundtrip 7 Nights
Departure: March 19 and November 19, 2023
Experience: Ritz-Carlton has drawn on their vaunted properties to design everything from onboard dining to shore excursions on board the all-suite Evrima . Guests can visit Grenada’s Tower Estate to sample their famous blue tea, made from estate-grown butterfly peaflower, with cucumber sandwiches, cupcakes, and fresh fruit picked onsite. On Bequia, in the Grenadines, it might be a windjammer excursion to nearby Mustique for a seaside lunch, or a private car and driver arranged at one of the ports.
Silversea Cruises
Itinerary: 9 Day Bridgetown to San Juan
Departure: February 18, 2023
Experience: When not luxuriating onboard Silversea’s newest ship, the all-suite Silver Dawn , passengers might explore this itinerary’s most unique destination: Montserrat. Once a favored haunt of the jet-set, volcanic activity that earned it the nickname “The Pompeii of the Caribbean” has kept tourism development low-key, and visitors few, but cruisers on this itinerary will discover an Emerald Isle reminiscent of Ireland, and some of the Caribbean’s most beautiful, secluded beaches. Unspoiled Deshaies, on Guadeloupe, is another under-the-radar call for this spectacular ship boasting butler service in every suite and a guest-to-crew ratio of nearly one-to-one.
A suite onboard Norwegian Prima
Norwegian Cruise Line
Itinerary: Caribbean: Harvest Caye, Cozumel, & Roatan from Galeveston
Departure: December 15, 22, and 29, 2023
Experience: In December 2023, the new Norwegian Prima begins sailing the Riviera Maya from Galveston, also including port calls at resort-like Harvest Caye in Belize , where guests can rent private cabanas, and Roatan, in Honduras’s Bay Islands, home to a large Gumbalimba eco-preserve and animal sanctuary. Onboard, Norwegian has enhanced The Haven, the VIP suite area on this ship, with some the largest suite accommodations in the fleet, and all public areas in the suite enclave now have ocean views.
Princess Cruises
Itinerary: 5 Day Caribbean Getaway with Grand Turk
Departure: October 31, 2023
Experience: Not all Caribbean cruises need to be a week or two in duration. Princess Cruises offers a Halloween weekend getaway onboard Caribbean Princess that’s just five nights in duration, with two unbeatable ports—Grand Turk, and Princess Cays, the line’s private island in the Bahamas. A highlight of this seasonal sailing can be sitting in the ship’s piazza, watching festive passengers promenade their inventive costumes for spooky onboard revelry—a Princess tradition dating back to the days of the original “Love Boat” series.
Booking tips for Caribbean cruises
What are the best months to take a caribbean cruise.
Although some cruise lines operate in the Caribbean year-round, the widest selection of sailing dates and itineraries can be found between November and March.
What part of the Caribbean is best for a cruise?
The best Caribbean cruise is a matter of personal taste. Many cruises focus on a region, like the Southern, Eastern, or Western Caribbean, and itineraries, regardless of destination, often feature stops at cruise line operated private islands in the Bahamas.
What are the cheapest months to cruise in the Caribbean?
Generally, the beginning and end of the November-to-March season can be affordable—any time when North American schools are widely in session are also good times to cruise for lower fares.
Do you need a passport to go to on a Caribbean cruise?
Check with the cruise line before booking. U.S. citizens traveling on cruises calling at most Caribbean countries can do so with both an enhanced state ID and an original birth certificate in lieu of a passport, but a passport is by far the easiest form of identification (and most strongly recommended by both the U.S. State Department and most cruise lines) for U.S. citizens outside the country. It’s also important to note that documentation requirements can change, and passengers are ultimately responsible for having the required documents at embarkation or they may be denied boarding.

These deals can offer significant savings over buying the same packages after boarding a ship. The sales typically don't last long, though. So, when they appear, it's good to jump on them.
To take advantage of this week's sale, log in to your account on Royal Caribbean's website and find the "Cruise Planner" section. You can pre-purchase cruise packages there.

The sale on pre-purchased packages comes even as base fares for Royal Caribbean cruises are on the rise .
Cruise line executives say bookings have soared since the start of " wave season " — the period beginning in January when large numbers of cruisers book trips for the year. That means cruise brands will likely be able to raise prices in the coming months.
The strength in bookings means that the days of $26-a-night cruise deals is likely coming to an end. Still, that doesn't mean that cruisers can't find good offers for soon-to-depart sailings.
For example, Virgin Voyages recently launched one of the best offers we've seen this year .

Which part of the Caribbean is best to cruise?

Eastern Caribbean cruises are ideal for tours and excursion s and are generally better for first-time cruisers. Sailings here may include ports in the Greater Antilles such as Cuba, Jamaica and Grand Cayman, as well as Mexico. Itineraries can also pack in Central American ports, such as Roatan and Belize City. Eastern Caribbean cruises often last a week.
Meanwhile, island calls in the western Caribbean include the Lesser Antilles which is home to the U.S. Virgin Islands, the British Virgin Islands, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, Nevis, St. Maarten, Barbados and Antigua. Voyages may also feature Grand Turk and the Dominican Republic. Western Caribbean cruises tend to be shorter.
Marella Cruises offers sailings across the Caribbean so you can pick which itinerary appeals the most. TUI cruise destinations are as follows:

For Caribbean cruises 2023 in March, for instance, you can sail for between £1,200 and £1,400 on an all-inclusive Caribbean cruise.
Are visas required for a Caribbean cruise?
Britons will not require a visa to visit the Caribbean provided they hold a UK passport. Your passport should be valid for at least the proposed duration of your stay. It’s always wise to check entry requirements at the time of travel and remember you will need a tourist card to visit Cuba – apply online on the visascuba website or check with your cruise line.

20-year-old man missing after jumping off a Royal Caribbean cruise ship, report says
- A 20-year-old man on holiday with his family went overboard from a Royal Caribbean cruise.
- The man, who's been missing since early Thursday morning, may have jumped, a report said.
- The US Coast Guard has launched a search operation.
A 20-year-old man who was vacationing with his family on a cruise may have jumped overboard, The New York Post reported.
Royal Caribbean confirmed that a passenger, whose identity has not been revealed, went overboard near The Bahamas at about 4 a.m. on Thursday and has been missing since then.
The US Coast Guard launched a search for the passenger on Thursday.
A Royal Caribbean spokesperson told Business Insider that the cruise line's "Care Team is providing support and assistance to the guest's family during this difficult time."
Bryan Sims, a fellow cruise passenger, told The New York Post that he'd hung out with the passenger in the hot tub until 3:30 a.m. Sims said the man appeared to be "pretty drunk."
Sims told the Post that after leaving the hot tub, they encountered the passenger's father while approaching the elevators.
"His dad was fussing at him for being drunk," Sims said.

Deborah Morrison, another passenger on board the cruise, told the Post that "there was a lot of yelling and that the crew was alerted immediately."
"The ship's crew immediately launched a search and rescue effort alongside the US Coast Guard, who has taken over the search," the Royal Caribbean spokesperson said.

The Liberty of the Seas departed from South Florida and was 57 miles from Great Inagua in The Bahamas when the passenger went overboard.
The cruise ship has 18 decks and can accommodate up to 3,634 passengers. It's served by a crew of about 1,300.
The chances of falling overboard on a cruise ship are extremely low .
In 2023, about 31 million passengers traveled on a cruise, and at least 10 people went overboard, with two of them surviving, Business Insider reported .
"Even one incident is one too many," a spokesperson for Cruise Lines International Association told Business Insider, adding that "the vast majority of cases are either reckless behavior or some form of intentional act. People don't just inadvertently fall over the side of a ship."
Last month, a 23-year-old man who felt seasick fell overboard from the MSC Euribia cruise ship while crossing the North Sea in Europe and was presumed dead.
In December, an MSC Cruises passenger jumped from one of its ships while sailing from Europe to South America.
According to a CLIA report, only 28.2% of passengers who fell overboard between 2009 and 2019 were successfully rescued.

Cruise demand leaves pandemic in rearview with record passengers, more construction on tap
M IAMI BEACH — The COVID pandemic drove the cruise industry to a standstill, but numbers released Tuesday signal the years of comeback are officially over with more expansion on tap.
More than 31.7 million passengers took cruises worldwide in 2023, said Kelly Craighead, Cruise Line International Association president and CEO, speaking at the annual Seatrade Cruise Global conference at Miami Beach Convention Center.
CLIA is the lobbying group for member cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean, Disney Cruise Line, Carnival, Norwegian, MSC and most other major brands.
The pandemic shut down sailing from March 2020 with only a small number of ships coming back online 18 months later in summer 2021. Cruise lines didn’t return to full strength until partially through 2022, so it wasn’t until a full year of sailing in 2023 that the industry could get a real handle on just what the demand had grown to as people returned to vacation travel.
“We are an industry that’s resilient and thriving all around the world, breaking records in ways we might never have imagined,” she said.
The 2023 total is 2 million more than the industry had in 2019. CLIA projects 34.1 million in 2024 growing to 34.6 million in 2025. It’s still a miniscule chunk of the overall travel pie of more than 1.3 billion, but cruise’s share is growing.
She noted that surveys of travelers who would consider a cruise for a vacation are at an all-time high, noting that 82% who had previously cruised said they would cruise again, but more importantly, among those who had never sailed, 71% would consider it.
The youngest generations — Gen X, Millennials and Gen Z — are the biggest drivers.
The fleet for the growing demand continues as well, including the introduction this year of the world’s largest cruise ship, Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas.
She said CLIA member lines had more than 300 ships sailing globally for the first time in 2023, with 14 new ships that began sailing in 2023 and another eight expected before the end of the year. They have 88 new ships on order through 2028.
Already this year, both Royal Caribbean Group and Carnival Corp. announced major new ship construction deals, and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings added to that this week with its order of eight more vessels across its three brands.
The heads of those groups were on stage to discuss where the industry is headed and enjoy their recent success.
Carnival Corp.’s president and CEO Josh Weinstein put it in a way that gained plaudits from fellow panelists and others at the conference.
“The concept of pent-up demand for cruising is gone,” he said. “We have been cruising for three years, right? It’s over. This is natural demand because we all provide amazing experiences. We delivered happiness to literally 31 million guests last year. And people see it, they feel it.”
A big part of what cruising missed during the pandemic he said was that word-of-mouth promotion that is needed to convince people to try their product.
“We now have 31 million people getting off our ships and going home and telling their friends and family who have never cruised before, ‘You don’t know what you’re missing.’ ‘This is amazing.'”
All of the leaders echoed the industry line that they offer a much better value than land-based vacations, but that the experience gap between the two has now shifted in their favor coming out of the pandemic.
“The appreciation for building memories with your friends and family coming out of COVID is at extraordinarily high levels,” said Jason Liberty, president & CEO at Royal Caribbean Group. “Also wealth transfer, right? Grandparents wanting to see that wealth transfer live, watching their kids and their grandkids experience that is also at an all-time high. … We have the secular trends of people buying less stuff, they want experiences. We’re in the experience business.”
Another bright aspect to the industry has been the spillover effect of all of the new ships since the pandemic, said Harry Sommer, president & CEO at Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd.
“Their new products are so extraordinary, and so much better than what was delivered back in ’15, ’16 and ’17, that it’s driving additional excitement for the entire industry,” Somer said. “When any new ship is delivered, no matter whether it’s part of our portfolio or the other portfolios, demand improves for all of us because it adds excitement to the industry.”

Moscow Travel Guide
Why Go To Moscow
Moscow's opulence and high culture is a sight to be seen. Forget what you learned about Russia in grade school. This lavish capital of a formerly communist nation has fully embraced the luxuries, excesses and decadence of Western capitalism. Like many former Soviet countries, Mother Russia struggles to successfully confront issues of widespread poverty, alcoholism, failing healthcare, and environmental protection. But Moscow has burgeoned into one of the most expensive, exclusive and largest travel destinations in the world. It comes complete with world-class museums, magnificent palaces, $1,000-a-night hotels, "face-control" nightclubs and internationally-renowned restaurants. Don't think you can afford Moscow? Don't be afraid. You can still find affordable deals if you are vigilant. This metropolis has a big and bold character and grandiose setting that's definitely worth getting to know.

Moscow Travel Tips
Best months to visit.
The best time to visit Moscow is April and May, when the temperature creeps into the 50s and 60s, the sun begins to shine for significant portions of the day, and hotel rates have yet to skyrocket into peak ranges. Of course, the golden period is summer, when the city is warm and bustling. But if you want to (slightly) spare yourself from the perpetually expensive rates, try the shoulder seasons in the spring and early fall. Preferably spring, since fall experiences more rainfall and less sunlight. Winters are brutally cold, but this is when you'll get a true glimpse into the Moscow experience (A frost-bitten walk through Red Square seems to intensify the historical significance of this great capital city).
Weather in Moscow
Data sourced from the National Climatic Data Center
What You Need to Know
A little Russian English is spoken only in major hotels and restaurants, and you'll find mostly Russian speakers in the less tourist-heavy areas. American visitors also struggle with the Cyrillic spellings and pronunciations. Practice some key Russian phrases on the long flight over.
A little tipping Unlike most other European cities, tipping (five to 10 percent) in restaurants is the custom.
A lot of vodka This Russian drink of choice (yes, they usually consume it straight) is found at any bar. But if you wish to taste it and learn about its origins, the Moscow Distillery Cristall is your best bet.
How to Save Money in Moscow
If it seems too good to be true It probably is. Take that proverb to heart in Moscow, and don't expect the Czarist medal you purchased off a street vendor to be worth anything more than a good memory.
If you're oblivious on the subway You'll probably leave several rubles lighter. Pickpockets prey on unsuspecting foreigners in crowded places, particularly metro cars. Beware!
If you're not scared of the dark You may be able to handle Moscow's long nights in fall, winter and spring, when hotels offer the lowest rates. December sees an average of 18 hours of sunlight … in total.
Culture & Customs
English is spoken in major hotels and restaurants, but you'll find mostly Russian speakers in the less tourist-heavy areas, such as at the market or in small inns. Some helpful Russian greetings include the informal hello (pronounced, pri-VET ); the formal hello ( Zdravst-vwee-tye ); the informal goodbye ( pah-KAH ); and the formal goodbye ( Dah svih-DA-nee-ye ). To thank someone, say " Spas-EE-ba ."
What to Eat
Traditional Russian fare focuses on hearty meat dishes and cold soup, a particularly Russian specialty. But don't arrive in Moscow thinking you'll experience only the old cuisine. Russia's new personality has been accompanied by a lavish taste for international cuisine, especially Asian food. Sushi and Asian fusion restaurants are among the most popular in the city, and other dining options include American and Italian cuisine. Eating out, like everything in Moscow, can be very expensive, but you can find cheaper restaurants in shopping centers and areas outside the city center.
Stay alert for pickpockets when using public transport and when visiting the main tourist sites. Many an unsuspecting traveler has been relieved of some rubles on the Moscow Metro and near Red Square. Also, make sure to exercise extra caution when leaving bars and clubs at night.
There have been cases of corrupt police asking for random fines -- if this occurs, get the officer's number and name and ask to go to the police station with him or her.
Getting Around Moscow
The best way to get around Moscow is the metro. Faster and more efficient than the trolley buses and trams, this extensive system has stations that contain beautiful ornamentation, sculptures and mosaics. You could rent a car, but it's best to use public transportation to avoid the city's perpetually congested roads. Plus, street signs are all in Russian. In fact, English signs are nonexistent in the public transit system as well, so it's best to quickly get familiar with a map. Most travelers arrive through Moscow's Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO), but there are several other airports that serve the metro area. Several buses and a metro line shuttle airport travelers to and from downtown.
Entry & Exit Requirements
Acquiring a visa to travel in Russia is a bit more complicated and expensive than visiting other countries. Every foreign traveler entering Russia must have a Russian-based sponsor (like a hotel, tour company, university or relative). In addition to a valid U.S. passport, you must also obtain a travel visa from a Russian embassy or consulate prior to arriving in Russia. If you plan to stay in Russia for more than seven days, you have to register your visa and migration card (the white paper document given by the border police on first entry to Russia) with the Federal Migration Service. Visas can cost anywhere from $160 to $250 per person, depending on the length of your stay. For more information on entry and exit requirements, visit the U.S. State Department website .

There are several onsite restaurants and in-room Wi-Fi is available too.
Peking Hotel
Built in 1956 as a little sister to Stalin's Seven Sister skyscrapers, and intended as post-war headquarters for the secret police, Moscow's Peking Hotel is a heritage hotel with a small 'h', in a good location just northwest of the centre. Although slightly old-fashioned, its 130 rooms are comfortable enough, with satellite TV and en-suite bathrooms.
Warsaw Hotel
Although its location may not be one of Moscow's most picturesque, the Warsaw Hotel is convenient for Gorky Park. Considering the quality of the competition, this is one of the best cheap options in the city, with clean and comfortable rooms, albeit in a rather dated style. Wi-Fi is complimentary and the Oktyabrskaya Metro station is right next door.

Historical Hotel Sovietsky
In the 1950s, Joseph Stalin decreed that the famous Yar restaurant should be upgraded to a hotel and the Historical Hotel Sovietsky was born. It quickly became a showcase for the image of sophistication that the Soviet government wished to present to the world, and its 107 rooms still conjures up the nostalgia of this period in history.

It's hard to imagine a more atmospheric place to stay than the 12-century precincts of the historic Danilovsky Monastery. Set amidst chapels and gardens, the hotel is a modern construction, but the rooms are comfortable and all have a view of the stately monastery buildings. There's a sauna and bar onsite too.

Moscow in September: Weather, What to Pack, and What to See
Thinking of visiting Moscow in September? While you will miss the more mild summer weather, Moscow weather in September is still fairly warm...by Russian standards. Temperatures will begin to drop as autumn arrives and the famously cold Russian winters are still many weeks away.
Moscow Weather in September
With an average temperature of 52 degrees Fahrenheit (11 degrees Celsius), the weather can change very quickly in Russia, but you can expect the temperature to remain in this range during at least the beginning of the month. It won't get much warmer with the city boasting an average high temperature of 60 degrees Fahrenheit (16 degrees Celsius), but it won't be too cold either with an average low temperature of 46 degrees Fahrenheit (8 degrees Celsius). However, Moscow can be a bit dreary, receiving approximately 15 days of rain every September and experiencing only five hours of daylight. There is even a chance you might catch the first snow of the year in September, but it will likely only be a light flurry.
What to Pack
Though warm air lingers in September, autumn temperatures call for jackets or sweaters, especially in the mornings and evenings. If you plan to be out and about all day, be sure to take a cover-up in the case of wind or rain, and you may want to pack a hat, scarf, and gloves , particularly if you're used to a warmer climate. If it's raining, you'll want to make sure you have enough layers to keep you warm and dry.
September Events in Moscow
You won't find as many events happening in Moscow as in the summer, there are still plenty of fairs and festivals to experience in September, for athletes art enthusiasts, and fans of high fashion.
In 2020, many of these events may be canceled so check the organizer's websites for the latest details.
- Cosmoscow : Russia's only international contemporary art fair, takes place within Moscow's Gostiny Dvor. This event prides itself on featuring galleries less than five years old, as well as emerging artists. The festival selects one creator as the artist of the year, who has the chance to present a large-scale installation for the fair to exhibit. The 2020 festival is scheduled for September 10–13.
- Promsvyazbank Moscow Marathon : This yearly event offers runners a one of a kind tour of the capital city. Throughout the race, runners can view more than 30 world-famous attractions, including the Kremlin , the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow City , and four of the Seven Sisters skyscrapers. If you are up for the challenge, run this event on September 20, 2020, for a one-of-a-kind tour of Moscow.
September Travel Tips
- September is a lovely month to travel to Eastern Europe . Crowds for important and usually tourist-heavy sights thin and the autumn temperatures make exploring historic landmarks on foot pleasant.
- Enjoy the autumnal air and changing leaves in one of Moscow's parks, while taking in the view on Sparrow Hills, or exploring one of the city's outdoor sights, such as Novodevichy Convent or Old Arbat Street.
- If you get an unexpectedly cold or wet day, take advantage of the wide variety of indoor Moscow attractions on offer. From shopping at the storied GUM department store to ballet performances at the legendary Bolshoi Theater, Moscow is much more than walks through Red Square .
- By traveling to Moscow at a less crowded time, there will plenty of great deals to take advantage of. From hotel deals to airfare specials and more, September is not only beautiful but budget-friendly.
