PGA Tour Champions Schedule 2024
Pga tour champions tournament details, mitsubishi electric championship.
Tournament History
Originally named the MONY Tournament of Champions, the event was played in California, Mexico, and Puerto Rico before finding a stable home in Hawaii. The inaugural tournament took off in 1984 when Orville Moody claimed a 7-stroke win over Dan Sikes.
Since then, the name has changed on eight occasions, with the current title sponsor, Mitsubishi, the longest-serving partner. The lush fairway and ocean backdrop of Haualalai golf club has been on the Senior PGA Tour schedule since 2006.
The Kona-based golf course is a par 72 design and measures 7,117 yards off the back tees on an average day.
⛳️ Fun Fact: When Senior Golf Source polled the PGA Tour Champions caddies, this was their favorite location, with Pebble Beach in a close second.
Chubb Classic
The Chubb Classic debuted in 1988 as the Aetna Challenge and was played at The Club at Pelican Bay until 1990. Gary Player , a fellow citizen of South Africa (like me), won the 1988 edition. And another compatriot, Harold Henning, finished second in the 1989 vintage, two strokes behind Gene Littler.
The tournament has featured at 12 golf courses since its inception, with the latest change in 2021. The organizers switched the venue to the Tiburon Black Course, designed by Australian Greg Norman. The Tiburon Black course is a par 72 layout reaching 6,945 yards off the back tees.
Our team particularly loves this course in Naples because of its idyllic location near beaches and plenty of sunshine in southwest Florida. However, be prepared; the Ritz Carlton is on the property, and staying here tends to come at a hefty price.
Trophy Hassan II
The Trophy Hassan II tournament is older than the PGA Tour Champions itself. The first event teed off in 1971, called the Moroccan Grand Prix, which saw Orville Moody defeat Jerry Heard by 2 strokes.
Prince Moulay Rachid hosts the event in honor of his father, Hassan II, and it is played at the Royal Golf Dar Es Salam. The tournament was removed from the schedule between 1986 to 1990 but returned in 1991 when Vijay Singh defeated the late Payne Stewart in a playoff.
The Royal Golf Dar Es Salam is situated on a 440-hectare estate, winding through cork oak forests, and is littered with lakes and bunkers.
Cologuard Classic
The Cologuard Classic is the third event on the annual calendar and is one of the newest editions of the Tour. It was launched in 2015 at the Omni Tucson National in Arizona as the Tuscon Conquistadores Classic. The name changed to its current form in 2018.
Marco Dawson is the first name on the silverware after bagging the inaugural title in 2015 by 2 strokes over Barty Bryant. The Omni Tucson National reaches 7,328 yards off the back tees with a total par rating of 73.
Hoag Classic
The first tee shot in the Hoag Classic was struck in 1995, but back then was known as the Toshiba Senior Classic. The name remained in 2005 when “senior” was dropped from the title and became the Toshiba Classic. Toshiba continued as the title sponsor until 2018 when Hoag took over.
The William F. Bell designed Newport Beach Country Club is the host golf course and has set the stage for several fierce battles since its inception. Bob Murphy and Jay Sigel entered the record books in 1997 when the duo went 9 holes in a playoff before the winner was decided.
Newport Country Club is a par 72 golf course which is not as long as some on tour, measuring 6618 yards off the Championship tees.
The Galleri Classic
The Galleri Classic entered the Tour Champions fray in 2023, holding its first outing at the Dinah Shore course at the Mission Hills Country Club, Coachella Valley, California. The Par 72 golf course played 7,112 yards for the Galleri on average.
David Toms surged to victory in the inaugural version of this tournament played in 2023, beating Steven Alker by 4 shots.
Invited Celebrity Classic
Las Colinas Country Club in Irving, Texas, hosted the ClubCorp Classic in 2022, adding a new event to the Tour schedule. The event name changed to the Invited Celebrity Classic after the company rebranding in 2022.
The course measures 6973 yards off the black tees, and 71 is a par score. Scott Parel from Michigan was the first to get his hands on the trophy in the 2022 edition. Mark Hensby from Australia took the second iteration of the event in 2023 with a 54-hole score of 12 under par.
Mitsubishi Electric Classic
The PGA Tour Champions made the Mitsubishi Electric Classic a reality in 2013. However, its original title was the Greater Gwinnett Championship. Bernhard Langer won the inaugural event in 2013 by 3 strokes over Tom Lehman and Tom Pernice Jr.
TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth, Georgia, has put on the spectacle since it teed off over a decade ago. The 27-hole facility was designed by “The Great White Shark,” Greg Norman. The Stables/ Meadows are the usual combination for tournament events, but it may change depending on the years.
The Meadows and Stables 18-hole combination totals 7322 yards off the back tees and is a par 72 layout.
Insperity Invitational
The Insperity Invitational has cemented its place as a mainstay on the annual sporting calendar in Houston. It started in 2004 as the Administaff Small Business Classic and immediately entertained us. Larry Nelson crawled his way back from 7 shots down to force a playoff with Hale Irwin.
Nelson bagged the title, and the tournament holds firm two decades on. Since Administaff changed their name in 2008, the event is now the Insperity Invitational. It was initially played at Augusta Pines, Texas, but is now hosted by The Woodlands Country Club Tournament Course.
The par 72 Tournament Course at Woodlands Country Club extends 7025 yards off the back tee. John Daly set the par 3 16th alight in the 1994 Shell Houston Open when he pured a 6 iron off the tee and drained the shot for a memorable ace.
Principal Charity Classic
The Principal Charity Classic resumes regulation tour play in June after back-to-back Majors in May. Des Moines, Iowa, has welcomed professionals with open arms since the event commenced in 2001 as the Allianz Championship.
Glen Oaks Country Club in West Des Moines hosted the inaugural showing of the Principal Charity Classic. It moved twice between 2001 and 2012 before finding solace at the Wakonda Club, which has held the Classic since 2013. Wakonda totals 6,847 yards off the back tees and is a par 72.
Jim Thorpe won the first-ever Principal Charity Classic beating Gil Morgan by 2 strokes in 2001. Jay Haas has lifted the trophy three times, more than any of his peers.
American Family Insurance Championship
Tour Champions professionals stay in the midwest for the American Family Insurance Championship played at University Ridge Golf Club, Madison, Wisconsin. Steve Stricker is the tournament host, and 78 of the tour’s best players are penciled in on the tee sheet.
The Championship was born in 2016, and Kirk Triplett claimed a 2 shot victory over Bart Bryant and Mike Goodes. University Ridge is a par 72 Robert Trent Jones Jr design and is slightly lengthy for senior tour pros, stretching 7,259 yards.
The front nine is relatively open, while the back nine is lined with trees and demands course management from tee to green.
Dick’s Sporting Goods Open
After a stint in the midwest, the tour heads east to Upstate New York, where the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open awaits. En-Joie has gracefully hosted the event since its inception in 2007, where R.W. Eaks triumphed over Bruce Vaughan by 3 strokes.
En-Joie is a 7,030-yard track off the back tees, and 72 is a par score for the round. The course was originally designed and built by local businessman George F. Johnson, but upgrades were made in 1998 and 1999. The greens transformed from flat round greens into challenging large and undulated dance floors.
We particularly “enjoy” the En-Joie course for its local, friendly vibe and beautiful rolling hills. While it’s not nearly as polished as most of the courses on this tour, we found it to be one of the best for spectators, with free tickets and giveaways.
Boeing Classic
The Boeing Classic has become a permanent fixture on the PGA Tour Champions and Seattle sporting calendar. 2005 saw the first tee shot struck in the tournament when it was the Boeing Greater Seattle Classic.
David Eger claimed the inaugural trophy winning by 3 strokes over Tom Kite. However, in 2007, fans were treated to the largest contingent of players in a Tour Champions playoff. Seven players ended the tournament on 9 under par. Zimbabwean Denis Watson would eventually steal the show as he drained an eagle putt on the second playoff hole to bag the crown.
The Jack Nicklaus-designed Club at Snoqualmie Ridge has hosted the tournament since it launched, frequently challenging the Pros. The 7,264-yard layout with a par score of 72 suits long hitters given its wide fairways. It also treats you to spectacular mountain and water vistas.
Shaw Charity Classic
The Tour makes its way north to Calgary, Canada, in mid-August for the Shaw Charity Classic, a mainstay on the schedule since 2013. Although the course plays a par 72 for amateurs, they corrected the rating to a par 70 for the Shaw Charity Classic.
Canyon Meadows Golf and Country Club has welcomed the tour since 2013, measuring 7,158 yards from the black tees. In addition, the course sits at 3,590 feet above sea level, adding extra yards to each shot. Rocco Mediate lifted the first trophy in 2013, obliterating the field by 7 strokes.
The Ally Challenge
Grand Blanc Township in Michigan is the venue for the Ally Challenge, one of the newer events on tour. The PGA Tour Champions arrived at the Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in 2018 when Paul Broadhurst became the first champion.
The 7,112-yard golf course is a par 72 layout designed by Joe Lee and is relatively long for senior tour players, and is lined with trees. This demands a combination of driving distance, fairways, and greens in regulation.
Ascension Charity Classic
The Ascension Charity Classic is another tournament in its infancy on tour. It teed off for the first time in 2021 when David Toms beat Dicky Pride in a playoff. The St Louis-based Norwood Hills has hosted the first two Ascension Charity Classics on their West course, which is no stranger to tournament golf.
Norwood Hills plays 6,992 yards, and 71 is considered a par score. The fairways are lined with trees and demand an accurate tee shot to attack the flag on approach. In addition, 5 lakes are scattered throughout the links and come into play for half the round.
Sanford International
The tour returns to the Midwest in September for the Sanford International, another relatively young event. 2018 saw the Sanford International debut, and Steve Stricker showed his class to defeat Tim Petrovic and Jerry Smith by 4 shots.
Minnehaha Country Club is the host venue, littered with water hazards and tree-lined fairways. It is not the longest golf course on tour, reaching 6,530 yards off the burgundy tees, but it does demand precision to walk away with a low round.
Pure Insurance Championship
As we enter the back end of the season, the Tour Champions journeys to the West Coast for the Pure Insurance Championship. The famed Pebble Beach is the host venue for the event, originally titled the First Tee Open. However, organizers have changed the name on five occasions.
The Pure Insurance Championship became the official title in 2017 and has remained since. Craig Stadler lifted the cup in the inaugural event in 2004, winning by 3 strokes over Jay Haas.
Constellation Furyk & Friends
The Constellation Furyk and Friends event kicked off in 2021 as a way for the Jim and Tabitha Furyk Foundation to raise funds for at-risk children. Timuquana Country Club puts on the event, which was first won by Phil Mickelson in the 2020-21 season.
The Country Club is located a short distance from my base for two years when I was navigating the high seas. Timuquana measures 6,949 yards from the back tees and is a standard Par 72 layout. Finally, its tree-lined fairways leave little margin for error, demanding accuracy off the tee.
If you’re traveling with family, Furyk & Friends is one of our favorites to bring the kids. In 2023, the tournament went all out with food trucks, a petting zoo, free ice cream, and more!
SAS Championship
The SAS Championship has featured on the PGA Tour Champions since 2001, played at the Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, North Carolina. Bruce Lietzke won the inaugural outing and went back to back in 2002.
The 54-hole complex opts for the Meadow and Highlands combination of courses for the SAS, playing 7,237 yards and carrying a 72-par total.
Dominion Energy Charity Classic
The Dominion Energy Charity Classic is the first playoff round for the Charles Schwab Cup. The top 72 players on the money list will be invited to the no-cut event after the SAS Championship.
The Country Club of Virginia in Richmond has hosted the event since it teed off in 2016 when Scott McCarron bagged the title. The venue is dominated by tree-lined fairways and the odd water hazard, making accuracy vital for success.
Simmons Bank Championship
The top 54 golfers on the money list after the Dominion Energy Charity Classic progress to the Simmons Bank Championship. The penultimate event of the year is hosted by Pleasant Valley Country Club, a parkland golf course with lightning-quick greens.
The tournament has a new headline sponsor this year after the partnership with TimberTech expired at the end of 2023.
Charles Schwab Cup Championship
The entire season has built up to this moment, where the remaining top 36 players are the only ones invited. The tour travels to Phoenix Country Club, Arizona, for the Charles Schwab Cup Championship.
Puerto Rico, Oklahoma, and California all hosted the event before its switch to Arizona in 2014. The initial Charles Schwab Cup Championship was called the New York Life Champions played in Dorado, Puerto Rico, with Mike Hill winning the first two editions.
The parkland-styled Phoenix Country Club has hosted the cup since 2017, measuring 6,764 yards, and it is a par 71.
5 PGA Tour Champions Major Tournaments
Regions tradition.
Golf Course: Greystone G&CC, Birmingham, AL Tournament Purse: $2,500,000 Dates: May 10 – 12, 2024
Past champions.
The Regents Tradition was first played in 1989 at the Desert Mountain Cochise course. Don Bies won the inaugural event by a shot over my compatriot Gary Player. Since 2016, the Founders Course at Greystone Golf and Country Club has remained the host venue.
It is the first major on the calendar, typically occurring in the second week of May after the Mitsubishi Electric Classic.
KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship
Golf Course: Fields Ranch East, Frisco, TX Tournament Purse: $3,500,000 Dates: May 25 – May 28, 2023
Like the PGA Championship, the senior edition is hosted at a different golf course every year. However, the tournament was hosted at Dunedin Golf Club in Florida from 1945 to 1962. In addition, the PGA National Golf Club hosted the affair from 1982 to 2000.
The 2023 edition is set down for Fields Ranch in Frisco, Texas after Steven Alker won the 2022 edition at Harbor Shores in Michigan. The KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship is the oldest senior golf tournament on the calendar, with Jock Hutchinson winning the first event in 1937 on 7 over par.
U.S. Senior Open
Golf Course: SentryWorld, Stevens Point, WI Tournament Purse: $4,000,000 Dates: Jun 27 – Jun 30, 2024
The third PGA TOUR major of the season sees the pros vie for the coveted Francis D. Ouimet Memorial Trophy. The U.S. Senior Open is played at a different golf course every year.
Winged Foot hosted the first U.S. Senior Open in 1980, and Argentine Roberto De Vicenzo claimed a 4-stroke victory.
Bridgestone Senior Players Championship
Golf Course: Firestone Country Club, Akron, OH Tournament Purse: $3,500,000 Dates: Jul 11 – Jul 14, 2024
The penultimate PGA Tour Champions major hits our screens in mid-July 2024 when the Kaulig Companies Championship returns to Firestone Country Club. The South Course or the “Monster” as it is colloquially known, is the chosen track.
It measures 7,400 yards off the Championship tees and is a par 70, with only one par 5 on each nine. The course is best suited to long hitters, and Jerry Kelly will attempt to win here for the third time in four years.
The inaugural Kaulig Companies Championship went ahead in 1983 at Canterbury Golf Club in Beachwood, Ohio. Miller Barber was the first to etch his name onto the trophy defeating Gene Littler by one stroke.
Senior Open Championship
Golf Course: Carnoustie Links, Scotland Tournament Purse: $2,850,000 Dates: Jul 25 – Jul 28, 2024
The Senior Open Championship returns to Carnoustie for the first time since 2016. Englishman Paul Broadhurst walked away victorious on that weekend. This is the third time that ‘Car-nasty hosts the best in the seniors game, and Alex Čejka will look to defend the title he won at Royal Porthcawl in 2023.
Gale-force winds and rain always remain a threat. We will see plenty of punch shots on approach and bump and runs around the dance floor. The first official Senior Open Championship was played at Turnberry in 1987 as Neil Coles walked away with a one-stroke victory.

Cameron Percy led the way, shooting 20-under and winning by four shots to claim the medalist honors of the 2024 PGA Tour Champions Qualifying Tournament Final stage at TPC Scottsdale in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Percy shot a final round 4-under 67 to close the door on the field. He was a model of consistency, shooting rounds of 65-66-66-67 to earn his Champions Tour card.
Michael Wright finished in solo second place at 16-under after holing out from the dirt on the par-4 No. 18 to finish with a birdie. It was a risky shot for Wright, as he was just three shots out of the playoff, and there was water hugging the left of the green. One mishit and four rounds of great golf could have been in danger. However, he stepped up and hit his best shot of the tournament right when he needed it.
Wright started slow, shooting rounds of 68-72 in the first two rounds, but catapulted up the leaderboard after a third round 8-under 63. He shot a final round 5-under 66
Shane Bertsch and Steve Allan finished T3 at 14-under and earned the third and fourth qualifying spots. The American Bertsch was the only non-Australian to finish in the top five and qualify. Bertsch shot rounds of 65-66-70-69, while Allan shot rounds of 68-66-65-71.
Bransdon earned the coveted fifth spot on the first playoff hole, the par-5 No. 10, after he finished at 13-under alongside Wes Short, Jr., and Raphael Jacquelin. All five Q-School graduates will receive exempt status on the 2024 PGA TOUR Champions once they turn 50. Wright and Percy turn 50 early next year. Allan turned 50 on Oct. 18, and Bransdon turned 50 on Oct. 28.
The lone amateur in the field, Bryan Hoops, shot a final round 5-under 66 to finish T8 at 12-under, just one shot out of the playoff for the final spot. He birdied Holes No. 17 and 18 coming in, but his bogey on No. 16 was the deciding factor.
The golfers who finished sixth through 30th will be eligible to apply for PGA Tour Champions Associate Membership for 2024, which would then get them into qualifiers.
PGA Tour winners Greg Chalmers and Daniel Chopra finished in between the sixth and 30th spots, finishing T8 and just one shot outside of the playoff. Chalmers was in a good position to make the playoff, but a bogey on No. 18 took him out of it.
PGA Tour winners Notah Begay III, Ted Purdy, and Boo Weekley did not make either cut.
Former Atlanta Braves and Hall of Fame pitcher John Smotz played in the Final Stage, hoping to secure a spot on the Champions Tour for next season. However, he shot rounds of 80-76-76-74 to finish 22-under and in solo 73rd place.

These five golfers – four of them aussies – earned 2024 pga tour champions tour cards at q school at tpc scottsdale, share this article.
The PGA Tour Champions had five tour cards for 2024 up for grabs at TPC Scottsdale’s Champions Course this week.
The final stage of Q School for the senior circuit provided 78 golfers 72 holes to snag status for next season.
By Friday, 73 of those golfers came up short, including Baseball Hall of Famer John Smoltz (dead last by eight shots at 22 over), 72-year-old Dick Mast (who shot or beat his age two times this week), Notah Begay, Shaun Micheel, Ted Purdy, Carlos Franco and Bryan Hoops, the lone amateur in the field who missed out on a playoff by a stroke.
All is not lost for those who finished sixth through 30th, as they will be eligible to apply for PGA Tour Champions Associate Membership for 2024, which would then get them into qualifiers.
But for those lucky top five, they are now fully exempt into all open, full-field events for the 2024 season on the PGA Tour Champions.
Here’s a closer look at what turned out to be an Aussie takeover, with Australian golfers earning four of the five cards.
Cameron Percy

Percy shot 65-66-66-67, finishing the week at 20 under and winning by five shots to leave no doubt. The victory earned him $30,000. Percy will turn 50 on May 5, 2024.
Funny thing is, Percy almost didn’t make the trek to Scottsdale.
“I wasn’t going to come (here), I was exhausted,” he said. “I was actually going to get ready for the PGA Tour’s Q-School next week. I was told to go to Q-School here and get my card. It’s so much better than having to Monday qualify. So, I did, and, it has all paid off.”
Michael Wright
Australia’s Michael Wright shot a third-round 63 to get into 10th place after 54 holes. On his final hole in the final round Friday, he holed out from a dirt lie for an all-world birdie, closing with a 66 and vaulting to solo second.
Holy shit. Last hole of Champions Q-school, Michael Wright was tied for second. Hit it into a bad spot in desert and chipped out to here. Then this happened…. pic.twitter.com/88QsJmWR1j — Monday Q Info (@acaseofthegolf1) December 8, 2023
“I hit what was my worst drive all week at No. 18 today, down into the desert,” he said. “I had a terrible lie on the rocks, leaving me with no option to try and hack a 5-iron. It went, maybe, 30 yards, but stayed on the dirt on the desert.”
From there, about 120 yards out, he found the jar.
Wright won $20,000 for his work this week at Q School. He turns 50 on Feb. 21, 2024.
Steve Allan
Steve Allan of Australia plays his shot from the first tee during the second round of the 2023 Sony Open in Hawaii at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii. (Photo: Gregory Shamus/Getty Images)
Steve Allan, like Percy and Wright a native of Australia, shot 68-66-65-71 to finish 14-under 203 and tie for third.
Allan hasn’t played a full schedule of pro golf since 2017 when he entered 20 tournaments on the Korn Ferry Tour. He played 17 events in 2009 on the PGA Tour. He’s yet to play a Champions event as he turned 50 in October.
Shane Bertsch
Shane Bertsch plays a shot on the 16th hole during the first round of the 2023 TimberTech Championship at The Old Course at Broken Sound in Boca Raton, Florida. (Photo: Sam Greenwood/Getty Images)
Shane Bertsch shot 65-66-70-69 for a four day total of 14-under 270 to finish tied for third. Bertsch has 82 starts on the Champions tour with one victory, the 2020 Charles Schwab Series at Bass Pro Shops Big Cedar Lodge. He was 39th in the Charles Schwab Cup standings in 2023 with just two top-10s.
“It feels good to have full-exempt next to my name,” he said. “I was in pretty good shape coming in, but the bottom line is, I was trying to improve my position. So, I’m really happy and proud of what I’ve done.”
David Bransdon
David Bransdon of Australia hit a tee shot during the third round of the 2019 ISPS Handa Vic Open at 13th Beach Golf Club in Geelong, Australia. (Photo: Michael Dodge/Getty Images)
David Bransdon outlasted Wes Short, Jr., of the U.S. and Raphael Jacquelin of France in a 3-for-1 playoff to nab the fifth and final tour card for 2024. He also gives Australia four of the five card-winners from this year’s Q School.
Bransdon has only appeared in two PGA Tour events and nine Korn Ferry Tour events. He’s never played in a Champions event. He does have 114 starts on the DP World Tour, where he has just four top-10s. At Q School, he posted scores of 69-70-65-67 to get into the playoff.

World Snooker Championship 2024: Results, schedule and latest scores
The World Snooker Championship 2024 is hurtling towards the quarter-final stage.
Reigning champion Luca Brecel, Mark Selby, Mark Williams, Ding Junhui and Ali Carter were all dumped out in a remarkable opening round at The Crucible .
Ronnie O’Sullivan is once again the centre of attention in Sheffield as snooker ’s biggest star aims for an eighth world title, having equalled Stephen Hendry’s modern record of seven crowns by memorably beating 2019 winner Trump 18-13 in the final two years ago.
However, ‘The Rocket’ was then ousted by Brecel in last year’s quarter-finals, with the Belgian later going on to make history as the first player from mainland Europe ever to seal World Championship glory as he defeated four-time champion Selby 18-15.
O’Sullivan is the heavy favourite and cruised into the second round where he will face Ryan Day.

World Snooker Championship 2024 prize money
The total prize pot this year is worth more than £2.3million, with the winner set to pocket £500,000 of that overall fund.
The runner-up will take home £200,000, while the players beaten in the semi-finals will still claim £100,000.
Quarter-finalists get £50,000, while those knocked out in the second round receive £30,000. First-round losers still take home £20,000, while there is a £15,000 reward for the highest break.
An extra bonus will see any player who manages to make two maximum 147 breaks across two of this season’s Triple Crown events - the World Championship, Masters and UK Championship - get a cool £147,000.
World Snooker Championship 2024 format
It’s best-of-19 frames in the first round at The Crucible, increased to best-of-25 in the second round and quarter-finals.
That goes up to best-of-33 in the semi-finals, while the final is a best-of-35 frame affair.
First-round matches are generally contested over two sessions, with three sessions thereafter apart from the semi-finals and final, which are typically spread over four separate sessions.
Where is the World Snooker Championship 2024?
Though there remains plenty of debate about the future location of the World Snooker Championship, for now it remains at its legendary home at the 980-capacity Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, which has hosted the event since 1977.
Who is playing at the World Snooker Championship 2024?
32 players in total will compete at The Crucible. The top 16 seeds - the world’s top-16 ranked players - all qualified directly for the tournament, while the remaining 16 earned their places through qualifying.
The most high-profile absentee this year is Neil Robertson, after the 2010 champion was stunned by Wales’ Jamie Jones in the final qualifying round. It is the first time in 20 years that the Australian has missed the World Championship.
Here are the seeded players for 2024 in order:
- Luca Brecel
- Ronnie O’Sullivan
- Mark Williams
- Ding Junhui
- Shaun Murphy
- Gary Wilson
- Kyren Wilson
- John Higgins
- Barry Hawkins
- Robert Milkins

U.S. Open 2024: Local and Final sectional qualifying schedule and results
David Cannon
The U.S. Open is returning to the sand hills of North Carolina this summer with Pinehurst No. 2 hosting the 156-player field that will be competing in the 124th playing of the championship. The 2024 U.S. Open takes place at this USGA anchor site June 13-16. Entries closed April 10 and for the third time in USGA history, more than 10,000 people (10,052 to be exact) applied to compete. To be eligible, a player must have a Handicap Index of 0.4 or lower, or be a professional.
This is the fourth time the historic Donald Ross course is holding the U.S. Open, with previous winners being Payne Stewart (1999), Michael Campbell (2005) and Martin Kaymer (2014). Pinehurst, dubbed the cradle of American golf, has also held several other USGA championships and has already been named site for the 2029, 2035, 2041 and 2047 U.S. Opens.
To date, 52 golfers have earned full exemptions into the field at Pinehurst, led by defending champion Wyndham Clark. In February, the USGA outlined the 23 fully exempt categories for this year’s U.S. Open.
Pinehurst No. 2

The number of fully exempt players will increase with the inclusion of the top-60 point leaders and ties not already in the field from the Official World Golf Ranking, as of May 20 and June 10. The winner of next month's PGA Championship, and any multiple winners of PGA Tour events that award a full-point allocation for the season-ending Tour Championship also will earn exemptions. A new exemption category created in 2023 also awards a spot in the U.S. Open field for the college golfer who wins the NCAA individual championship in June.
The remaining spots in the field will be filled by golfers who play their way into the championship via local and final qualifying.
There are 109 courses hosting 18-hole local qualifiers that will be contested in 44 states and Canada from April 22 to May 20. Those who advance then tee it up in one of 13 36-hole final qualifiers, 10 in the U.S., one in England (May 20), one in Canada (June 3) and one in Japan (May 20). Nine of the 10 conducted in the U.S. sites will be played on Monday, June 3, with one additionally American qualifier being played Monday, May 20.
Just two golfers—Ken Venturi (1964) and Orville Moody (1969)—have won the U.S. Open after qualifying through local and sectional play. Gene Littler (1961), Boros (1963), Jerry Pate (1976), Steve Jones (1996), Michael Campbell (2005) and Lucas Glover (2009) won after advancing through final qualifying.

Charlie Woods Playing in U.S. Open Local Qualifier in Florida
Tiger Woods's son will play 18 holes Thursday in an attempt to advance to 36-hole final qualifying.
- Author: Bob Harig
Charlie Woods, the son of three-time U.S. Open champion Tiger Woods, will attempt the first stage of qualifying for this year’s tournament at Pinehurst No. 2 when he competes in an 18-hole local event on Thursday in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
Woods, 15, who unsuccessfully attempted to qualify for the Cognizant Classic in February in an 18-hole pre-qualifying round, has an 8:18 a.m. ET tee time at the Legacy Golf & Tennis Club.
Charlie Woods, 15, will tee it up in a local U.S. Open qualifier.
Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports
The field consists of 84 players with five expected to advance to 36-hole qualifying in June.
From there, approximately 90 to 100 players—based on those who are already exempt into the field for the tournament—will advance to the 124th Open, to be played for the fourth time at famed Pinehurst No. 2.
Past major champions, those who are among the top 60 in the Official World Golf Ranking and the top 30 from last year’s PGA Tour FedEx Cup standings are among the players who are exempt.
The United States Golf Association said it accepted more than 10,000 entries for this year’s championship, the third time it has surpassed the 10,000 barrier. There are local sites in 44 states and Canada that are conducting 18-hole qualifiers through May 20.
From there, those who advance will go to one of 10 U.S sites—there are also three international sites—for the 36-hole final qualifying.
Tiger Woods won the U.S. Open in 2000, 2002 and 2008—after also winning three U.S. Juniors and three U.S. Amateurs. The 15-time major champion has not competed in the U.S. Open since missing the cut in 2020 at Winged Foot.
He is also not exempt for this year’s U.S. Open as his five-year exemption for winning the 2019 Masters expired last year, but is in line to receive a special exemption from the USGA in the coming weeks.

Champions League 2024-25: Who has qualified, who is at risk of missing out and what to know
Some ucl regulars are in danger across england, spain, italy, germany and france.
The battle for the final additional UEFA Champions League berth is essentially Germany's to lose after Italy secured the first and England suffered some major setbacks with Manchester City , Arsenal , Liverpool and West Ham United all going out of Europe last week. The Bundesliga has two UCL semifinalists in Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund as well as recently crowned Bayer Leverkusen flying the German flag in the UEFA Europa League. Regardless of that extra place, competition for the new format of the Champions League as it switches to the "Swiss" model was always going to be tight and there risks being some familiar faces missing out.
Premier League
The big names most at risk with a fifth UCL spot now highly unlikely are Tottenham Hotspur and UEFA Europa Conference League semifinalists Aston Villa . Unai Emery's side are six points clear of Spurs even if they have played two games more and the Villans also possess a greater goal difference so the Birmingham giants are considered favorites to sneak it ahead of Ange Postecoglou's men. With an extra UCL spot unlikely to reach the EPL, Newcastle United , Manchester United and Chelsea all reaching Europe is now impossible and even then it was unrealistic. West Ham United being out of UEL contention threatens United's ability to benefit from an extra UCL place by stretching European spots down to seventh. Expect to see some high-profile names missing out on the Champions League from England.
In Spain, Atletico Madrid, Athletic Club and Real Sociedad are all at risk of dropping out of UCL contention but it should be said that the Bilbao outfit were not expected to compete for it at the start of this season. The San Sebastian club already enjoyed a run to the round of 16 this year before exiting to PSG so the Basques would not necessarily view that as a failure. It would be pretty disastrous for Atleti though after an unexpected quarterfinals loss to Dortmund which could have set up a semifinal against PSG for Diego Simeone's men.
Italian soccer is already celebrating an extra Champions League spot for Serie A clubs next season as a reward for their outstanding collective displays on the continent and there are two UEL semifinalists in Roma and Atalanta as well as Fiorentina in the UECL who could potentially face EPL hopefuls Villa in the final which could see Viola grab promotion to Europe's second-tier competition. A Giallorossi win in the Europa League would relieve their league-based worries as would Atalanta although both of those two cannot be winners so one could lose out. However, Lazio and Napoli are arguably in the weakest positions in terms of Champions League qualification as neither can fall back on their European exploits as both have already exited the UCL and there also needs to be Roma and Atalanta having played one game less into the equation.
Over in Germany, VfB Stuttgart, RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund are all vying for a Champions League spot but all three could be winners even if BVB lose out to PSG in the semifinals. Leverkusen winning the Europa League should be enough to secure the Bundesliga the second additional UCL berth which would then see SC Freiburg benefit behind Eintracht Frankfurt who are too far off to be in the UCL chat this time.
With the unexpected name of Stade Brestois 29 currently in a Champions League spot, France and Ligue 1's improved European showings will likely not be enough to win an extra slot but there is plenty at stake in the UCL race. Fresh out of the UECL at the hands of Villa's Emiliano Martinez , Lille OSC are competing with OGC Nice and RC Lens to finish in qualification places while Stade Rennais, Olympique Lyonnais and Stade de Reims could all benefit from an extra European berth in the league secured if PSG win the Coupe de France. Les Parisiens are, of course, UCL semifinalists while Olympique de Marseille are UEL semifinalists and could earn an improbable Champions League ticket that way.
Here are the qualified teams from Europe's top leagues:
