Premise [ ]

The official announcement stated that "the series will follow Captain Pike, Science Officer Spock, and Number One in the decade before Captain Kirk boarded the USS Enterprise , as they explore new worlds around the galaxy." [1]

Executive Producer and Co-creator Akiva Goldsman told Variety , " We're going to try to harken back to some classical 'Trek' values, to be optimistic, and to be more episodic. Obviously, we will take advantage of the serialized nature of character and story building. But I think our plots will be more closed-ended than you've seen in either Discovery or Picard . ... I imagine it to be closer to The Original Series than even DS9 . We can really tell closed-ended stories. We can find ourselves in episodes that are tonally of a piece. " [2]

When talking to Deadline on 16 August 2020 Co-executive Producer Alex Kurtzman elaborated, " I think Strange New Worlds , under the guidance of [showrunners] Henry Myers and Akiva Goldsman, it's going to be a return in a way to TOS [ Star Trek: The Original Series ] . We are going to do stand-alone episodes. There will be emotional serialization. There will be two-parters. There will be larger plot arcs. But it really is back to the model of alien-of-the-week, planet-of-the-week, challenge-on-the-ship-of-the-week. With these characters pre-Kirk's Enterprise ... I think what people responded so much to in all three characters is this kind of relentless optimism that they have. And that they are at the young phase of their careers. " [3]

Production history [ ]

When the news of showrunner Alex Kurtzman 's five-year Star Trek development deal with CBS All Access was announced on 19 June 2018, a show dealing with Christopher Pike, Spock, and the USS Enterprise was not considered for inclusion in any Star Trek line-up. [7]

Star Trek: The Original Series characters, Christopher Pike , Number One , and Spock , were introduced for season two of Discovery and were signed only for that season. [8] [9] It prompted Anson Mount to quip with a "#WillActForFood" hashtag on his Twitter account, making it known that he and Spock performer Ethan Peck were on the job market again shortly after live-action production on season two had wrapped. [10] Following the positive reception to the second season of Star Trek: Discovery , fans circulated a petition in support more appearances of Mount as Captain Pike and Peck as Spock, including the idea of a full new series. [11] Mount expressed support for the fan petition, stating he felt "humbled and deeply touched by this amount of love" in an 14 April 2019 Facebook entry. [12] [13] Peck also expressed interest in returning to the role of Spock. [14]

Mount, Romijn, and Peck reprised their roles in three late 2019 season two episodes of Star Trek: Short Treks .

Inception [ ]

In January 2020, Kurtzman confirmed he and Akiva Goldsman were having "active conversations" about a new series involving the crew of the Enterprise . [15]

On 15 May 2020, CBS announced a new series "based on the years Captain Christopher Pike manned the helm of the USS Enterprise ." [16] The announcement included that Strange New Worlds would feature Anson Mount as Captain Pike, Ethan Peck as Spock, and Rebecca Romijn as Number One, all reprising their roles from the second season of Star Trek: Discovery .

Development [ ]

TRR : " Hide and Seek " presented " The Cage " as the pilot to this series, as opposed to Star Trek: The Original Series .

Prior to its premiere, Paramount+ specifically suggested that viewers could prepare for the launch of the new series by checking out the following DIS Season 2 episodes:

  • Episode 1 - " Brother "
  • Episode 8 - " If Memory Serves "
  • Episode 12 - " Through the Valley of Shadows "
  • Episode 14 - " Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2 "

StarTrek.com presented its own list of episodes to watch before the premiere. In addition to the aforementioned Discovery episode "Through the Valley of Shadows", this list of original series episodes served more as a primer for familiarizing or refamiliarizing viewers with the series' cast:

  • " The Menagerie, Part I "+" The Menagerie, Part II "
  • " Space Seed "
  • " Journey to Babel "
  • " Mirror, Mirror "
  • " The Deadly Years "
  • " A Private Little War "

In March 2021 , Eaglemoss/Hero Collector 's Star Trek Universe: The Official Starships Collection premiered at retail. A new starship miniatures partwork and product line, it would have featured Strange New Worlds starships, combined with ships from Star Trek: Discovery (after the release of issue 33 of the DIS partwork ) and Star Trek: Picard . The line's manager indicated that CGI assets of SNW's starships had not yet been received from the show's producers, as of February 2021, which was not that surprising as actual production on the new series had yet to start at that point in time. [17]

Eaglemoss' bankruptcy on 5 August 2022 thwarted all intents to release Strange New Worlds starships and none were, save one. Replicas of Pike's USS Enterprise though, had previously been produced by the company as part of the Discovery partwork collection, as it had already debuted in that series.

‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Director Gives Season 3 Production Milestone Update From The Set

Production on the third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds  began in early December, and thanks to one of the directors, we now know how far along they are.

That’s a wrap on episode 302

Today’s update comes from director Jordan Canning, who has been directing the second episode of the season. Earlier today, she took to her Instagram to post a picture of herself in the captain’s chair with the message “That’s a wrap on 302, and I’m missing it already. Didn’t think I could possibly love this show, this cast, and this crew more than I already did. Can’t wait to share our truly epic episode when it’s all done.”  🖖🏼

This is Canning’s second time behind the camera for the series; she also directed episode 5 in season 2 (“Charades”). Her feelings for the cast are reciprocated: After Canning’s post, actress Jess Bush (Christine Chapel) followed it up with an Instagram story declaring today “Jordan Canning Appreciation Day,” with the message “Missing you already.” Nothing is known about the “epic” episode Canning just directed. She did share a photo (via Instagram story) from the USS Enterprise bar set on day 7 of shooting (January 16).

The third season of Strange New Worlds began filming on Monday, December 11, in Toronto with producing director Chris Fisher helming the season premiere. The team took an extended Christmas/New Year break, and resumed filming in the second week of January. Factoring in the break, it appears the team is keeping to the usual schedule of around 2 weeks of filming for each episode. The 10-episode season is scheduled to take just over 5 months, set to wrap up on May 21, 2024. Strange New Worlds usually has a mix of 10 directors for each season, helping give the show a mix of different styles and genres. We don’t have a full list of directors for season 3, but we do know TNG veteran Jonathan Frakes, who directed the fan favorite “Those Old Scientists” crossover with Lower Decks in season 2, will be returning.

Production of season 3 of Strange New Worlds was delayed by last year’s WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes; it was originally set to begin in early May 2023 and would have wrapped up late in the year.  It is unknown when season 3 will debut on Paramount+ but due to the strikes delaying production, it may not be until 2025.

The second season of Strange New Worlds, which wrapped up in August, was a hit for Paramount+ . The show picked up a series of  Critics Choice Awards and Saturn Awards nominations. The full cast is set to return for season 3, which will also feature Scottish actor Martin Quinn as Scotty, who made his debut in the season 2 finale “Hegemony.” The showrunners have teased that more TOS characters are “ inevitable ,” although it’s unclear if we’ll see them in season 3.  Even though the show will remain episodic, the Gorn are set to recur as villains. Co-showrunner Akiva Goldsman did confirm the series would continue to “genre hop” and attempt to once again do it “bigger and better” in season 3.

‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Renewed For Season 4; ‘Lower Decks’ To End With Season 5

Sounds like we will see it in early 2025 then, but perhaps November this year if they push it. Hopefully they start filming Season 4 by this fall.

Given the delay, it would be awesome if they could film Seasons 3 and 4 back-to-back. If the cast and crew of PIC can film S2 and S3 back-to-back (because of COVID), there’s no reason the SNW cast can’t do the same. Long delays in these series is not good; it wasn’t good for DSC and I don’t think it would be good for SNW.

I agree. However, I am thinking the writers strike may in play as well…but they still have several months, so I do think it could work out at you suggest.

I’d be down with the first five episodes beginning in November and carrying the back half over into 2025. That means we could get Season 4 in Q4 2025.

Great idea! I guess it depends on if they have enough scripts. The writers were on strike for quite some time, too…

I doubt you could get all the cast members to agree to 12 consecutive months of shooting. Picard didn’t take 6 months to shoot 10 episodes.

I hope they don’t do that TBH. I would prefer they see the reactions to whatever they are doing with S3 before doing S4. Or at least have time to make adjustments if needed (not that I am saying it would be)

I would rather they make what they want to make and allow the fans that like it to enjoy it.

Discovery made too many changes that didn’t benefit the show in my opinion and turned it into something I no longer enjoyed.

Totally agree with you! As a creative director myself I can say that focusing on what you think your audience wants can often be the death knell of any creative endeavor.

Frankly, I think catering to the audience is what has been killing pop culture over the last decade or more.

If a studio wants to make X because they think that’s what the audience wants, that’s fine, but hire creators who want to do X. Don’t tell your existing creative team, who excel at making Y, to do it.

I’d much rather Star Trek producers and writers craft the stories they believe in and let them sink or swim on their own merits.

You’re much more likely to get a better result when a story is made by people who are passionate about it, and who chose their own direction and ideas, rather than hired guns taking direction from fans.

Besides fans aren’t very smart. That old Simpsons episode comes to mind.

“So you want a realistic, down-to-earth show that’s completely off the wall and swarming with magic robots…”

or just have seasons that are not over ‘In the blink of an eye’ (pun intended)

Any word if Jack Quaid or Tawny Newsome was spotted on set with their uniforms on? 😁

Huh, I did a double-take at that photo. Funny how much more it looks like the TOS bridge when they turn off the displays and other lights.

Anyway, I welcome more SNW. Wasn’t a big fan of Season 2 but I’ll stick with it.

Yea, S2 was a bit of a letdown after the great S1. I don’t want anymore BS “big swings” like cartoon crossovers or musicals.

I want singles, doubles, steals and a high on-base percentage — give me 10 eps of classic TOS-updated science fiction Trek this year please!

Agreed. 10 modern TOS-like episodes with maybe a connecting thread would be sublime!

I really appreciated the risks they took in the second season. The crossover episode really worked and I enjoyed the musical. There were also several standout standalone episodes.

That being said, it would be nice to actually just have nine solid singles once the S3 premiere resolves the S2 finale.

They didn’t work for every fan. All I’m saying.

Nothing ever works “for every fan” though. You can see that in the comments under basically every article posted on this site.

I liked the crossover a lot. I mean if we can accept that the TOS crew and the TAS crew are the same then I can totally get over animation vs live action. But musicals? This is just me but I have never liked any musicals. Trek or otherwise. Like I said, just my preference.

I think Season 2 was marginally better than Season 1, but both seasons were wildly uneven in their quality. Season 2’s highs were higher, but there were some god awful episodes like the premiere and M’Benga’s big episode. When the show gets it right, it’s fantastic- but it drops the ball way too much.

I didn’t have a major problem with season 2 like others did for some reason. I didn’t like the first episode, the musical or the one dealing with the Klingon general all that much but pretty much liked everything else.

And TOS was definitely my favorite for both seasons! Guilty! 😁

Ya the musical one is the only one I really didn’t connect with. the rest I was more than fine with!

The Klingon General episode is probably the best SNW episode so far (haven’t seen 210 yet). Complex issue with good presentation, great acting and a couple of well executed twists.

Pretty much the same way I feel about SNW, S2 was weaker. Not ‘must see’ TV for me, but I’ll be tuning in for S3.

Just found S1 & 2 on disc on EBay for less than $20, so I picked them up.

That’s a surprisingly good price, was it a knockoff edition, or did the seller have a misspelling in the title?

20 years back, I remember getting the BLADE RUNNER SKETCHBOOK for about seven bucks off eBay because the seller mistakenly listed it as BLADERUNNER (no space) so apparently other potential buyers didn’t have it in their search (sold it for over a hundred later, wished I held onto it, it goes for 300-500 now!)

Nearly all of that original BLADE RUNNER tie-in material is gold; a couple years back I found the mass-market sized comic book adaptation in great unread-looking shape at a resale store for two bucks!

Years ago I was in a comic shop in Manhattan and saw the complete set of TOS Fotonovels (twelve volumes, plus the TMP one- no WOK, alas- all in really good shape) for sale, at like a couple of bucks each. (The price labels looked really old.) The guy at the counter was like, “Oh, man! Well, it was on the shelf and priced like this, so I guess we have to…” I still have them. (The Fotonovels- my brother had about four- were one of my first introductions to Trek.)

I loved those as a kid. Wore the set out.

Not missing much on the TWOK one, as it was black-and-white and had several pages worth of imagery ‘flipped.’ Now if TMP and TWOK had had OUTLAND / ALIEN -sized fotostories in the very large trade paperback format, that would have been something to treasure! I had the very first one, a hardcover of STAGECOACH, as well, mainly because I read that Orson Welles learned everything he needed to direct by watching that film over and over again! But as a result of inhaling that book, I’ve never actually seen the film itself (though I saw a bit of the remake with Ann Margaret, which may well have been the GIGI of its time.)

All of the later smaller Foto- books seemed to suffer from bad editing … they rewrote lyrics to GREASE songs wholesale to take them down to a more traditionally PG level than those heard in the actual film, and I’m pretty sure they darkened some imagery on BODY SNATCHERS and NIGHTWING. But the TOS ones were great visual references for me, I learned a lot about shot composition and film editing, comparing them with the actual episodes. I did often wonder on what basis they made their choices, because some of the eps out of that dozen are definitely lesser efforts and/or visually uninspiring.

Thanks! There’s a scene in RKO 281 of Welles and Gregg Toland watching Statecoach over and over.

Brand new and both still in plastic. I was pretty surprised, since S1 of SNW typically goes for about $12 – $15 on EBay. So I said ‘why not?’

DISCO and SNW did a great job modernizing the 1701 bridge, esp when you consider how badly the Kelvinprise bridge was.

Oh I agree. I find it much easier on the eyes than the Kelvin bridge anyway.

So is the sun!

Same, I questioned whether they had changed the bridge as well to be more retro-looking, guess it is just the lighting and stuff like you said.

Bring back prime Lorca!

If we don’t get Prime Lorca for the S31 film, I would most definitely like to see him pop up on SNW!

I’d love to see him back too but for some reason Jason Isaacs seems to be a persona non grata in Trek circles these days.

Well, the problem is that Lorca is uninteresting without the rest of the DISCO crew as foils. He doesn’t have a history with Pike and company.

Not just that, Prime Lorca wouldn’t even be the character audiences are familiar with (assuming they’ve seen DSC season 1).

Looking forward to more SNW. Wish the season was a few episodes longer too. Since there’s no story up, let me add, RIP Gary Graham.

Trekmovie needs to do a memorial article on Gary Graham. Yes his politics might have been divisive but he had a quite bit of an impact in Trek with his role in Enterprise. Also of course lets not forget Robot Jox and Alien Nation.

After many years of not watching fiction TV at all , Alien Nation was the first time I decided it was really OK to watch some TV.

If the surprising lack of even a mention of his passing on the site is due to his political opinions not being popular among the site owners, that would be a disgrace.

Agreed about season length as we are getting less Trek shows now they should increase the ep counts to like 13. Also, RIP Gary Graham!

Since they take two weeks per episode and the original series did theirs in one, they should do 14 or 15 episodes per season.

I would love that

Yay! It’s always great to hear about SNW!

The Enterprise in SNW looks like some kind of luxury space palace at times, and I don’t really know why they chose to go with such glamour. I like the 60s vibe to the sets, but Kirk’s Enterprise wasn’t a cruise ship – it was a workhorse of the fleet, utilitarian vessel. But I feel like in SNW they think they need to make the ship so maximal, even though I feel like they don’t treat the ship like a character in the same way TOS did, the way Kirk loved the ship and the crew, not like a family, but like it was his duty. That’s really what I don’t like about SNW – that feeling that none of this is particularly serious. Yeah, it looks pretty, but it’s just a vapid copy. Give me Kirk over Pike any day.

I have a feeling it’s coming. I mean so far, we have Kirk, Spock, Uhura and now Scotty on the show. If we end up seeing Sulu and McCoy, then I say they should just transition over to a remake of TOS.

TOS was written and produced by mostly WW2 vets and I see it reflecting this outlook including the sets. I remember seeing the interior of modern aircraft carriers and thinking about how much they now remind me of casinos.

Except when they play 21 on a carrier, it is a celebration of somebody reaching drinking age!

Oh really? I haven’t been on a modern carrier – good on them making them better places to live lol

Hope scotty replaces that awful Carol Kane character.

Oooohhh I see color on the bridge again. Whats next, some exploring strange new worlds and some action adventure again like season one? Or is it the bland complete with dumb time travel? Scotty to the rescue? May fortune favor the foolish, fingers crossed.

Well, I’m glad the cliffhanger resolution is in the can at least. :-)

I’s so pumped!

Definitely looking forward to S3. I didn’t mind S2 at all except for the already mentioned several times, musical. I’ve watched S1 & S2 through a few times each and still have yet to watch that episode in its entirety. And interestingly enough, I didn’t mind the cartoon crossover, even though I can’t stand Lower Decks as a stand alone show.

'Star Trek: Strange New Worlds' Season 3: Release Window, Cast, and Everything We Know So Far

Here's to finally beaming up Scotty.

Quick Links

When is 'star trek: strange new worlds' season 3 coming out, where can you watch 'star trek: strange new worlds' season 3, is there a trailer for 'star trek: strange new worlds' season 3, who's in the 'star trek: strange new worlds' season 3 cast, who are the creators of 'star trek: strange new worlds', what's the plot of 'star trek: strange new worlds' season 3 about, more shows like 'star trek: strange new worlds' that you can watch right now.

It's a huge sigh of relief when a spinoff of a classic like the original Star Trek (which ran from 1966 to 1969) is well done, polished, and gripping. Especially when that show stands out in a franchise with twelve - yes, you read that right - twelve corresponding series. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds , which serves as a prequel to the original (and iconic) Star Trek series, follows Captain Christopher Pike ( Anson Mount ) as he leads his crew through the galaxy aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise. The show, which premiered in 2022, was met with high critical acclaim from the beginning and continues to find fans with each new season - an impressive feat in a time when so many shows get lost in the streaming shuffle. Now renewed for a third season right after its Season 2 finale, here's everything we know so far about the next chapter in the epic space adventure.

With Season 2's finale leaving fans wanting more, it's only natural to be itching for Season 3 to come as soon as possible. While episodes are expected to return in 2024, the production window is from December 2023 to June 2024 for Season 3 , so we may have to wait a bit before we get the answers we're craving .

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds follows Captain Christopher Pike (played by Anson Mount) and the crew of the starship USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) in the 23rd century as they explore new worlds throughout the galaxy in the decade before Star Trek: The Original Series.

While Strange New Worlds premiered its first two episodes on CBS in 2022, all episodes are now streaming on Paramount+. It can be assumed that the third season of the show will also premiere on the CBS-affiliated streaming service. Subscriptions to Paramount+ are available in two tiers: Paramount+ Essential (with commercials, $5.99/month) and Paramount+ with SHOWTIME (commercial-free, $11.99/month).

WATCH ON PARAMOUNT+

Because production on the third season has yet to begin, there won't be a trailer out for some time.

Leading the charge is fan-favorite Captain Pike , played by Anson Mount. Mount is no stranger to the Star Trek world, as he also appeared in Star Trek: Discovery in 2019. His other credits include films like Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and the Britney Spears -led 2002 drama Crossroads . Ethan Peck 's Spock is another character who appeared in Discovery alongside Mount. Peck also worked on shows like Madam Secretary and 10 Things I Hate About You . The astute La'an is played by Christina Chong , whose credits include Johnny English Reborn and Tom and Jerry .

Erica Ortegas is played by Melissa Navia , whose guest roles include Bull , Homeland , and Billions . Rebecca Romjin plays Una-Chin Riley, Pike's Number One. While Romjin is known for films like X-Men and Austin Powers , perhaps her most unforgettable role was as Cheryl, the gorgeous girl with the disgusting apartment in Season 4 of Friends . Rounding out Pike's crew are Babs Olusanmokun ( Dune ) as Dr. M'Benga, Celia Rose Gooding ( Foul Play ) as Nyota Uhura, and Jess Bush ( Playing For Keeps ) as Nurse Christine Chapel. Arguably, one of the best parts of the Season 2 finale was the appearance of Lieutenant Montgomery Scott ( Martin Quinn ), of the infamous - and incorrect - quote from the OG series: "Beam me up, Scotty!"

Strange New Worlds is produced by CBS Studios , Secret Hideout, and Roddenberry Entertainment, and distributed by Paramount+. The show was created by Akiva Goldsman , Alex Kurtzman , and Jenny Lumet , with Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers serving as co-showrunners . Kurtzman, Goldsman, Lumet, and Myers are executive producers on the series, alongside Aaron Baiers, Heather Kadin , Frank Siracusa , John Weber , Rod Roddenberry , and Trevor Roth .

With many unanswered questions in the Season 2 finale, there are lots of possibilities for where Season 3 could take Captain Pike and his crew. After the fun and games of the previous musical episode , things switched back to danger mode very quickly, and viewers were ultimately left with a cliffhanger. With the re-appearance of the Gorn (the reptilian-humanoid extraterrestrials first seen in Star Trek in the 1960s), Pike was faced with a decision: heed the commands of the Enterprise not to engage with the Gorn, or do whatever he can to save his people. Pike, being the always-optimistic hero that he is, decides he must try and save his crew. And, when he sees young Gorn working together, his hunch that the species may be able to communicate leads him to want to try and save his crew without violence. While it's unclear how big a role the Gorn will play in Season 3, perhaps Pike's interest in their ability to communicate will be an important factor in not having this happen again. To add (gross) insult to injury, it is revealed that Gorn eggs have been planted in Pike's love interest, Captain Batel, and she may have to sacrifice herself in order to save everyone else. This is also not resolved in the finale, adding another layer to what Season 3 might bring. Will she survive? And if so, what happens to the Gorn eggs? Additionally, diehard Star Trek fans were no doubt thrilled to see Montgomery Scott appear in the Season 2 finale. While the character first appeared in the 1960s, as portrayed by James Doohan , this is his first time on Strange New Worlds. The re-introduction of this iconic character leaves a lot of potential for Season 3.

The Mandalorian (2019-)

Disney+'s runaway hit The Mandalorian has taken the world - and the internet - by storm. Premiering in 2019, show creator and showrunner Jon Favreau ( Chef ) has confirmed that Season 4 has already been written. The series follows a Mandalorian bounty hunter, played by Pedro Pascal ( The Last of Us ), as he travels through the galaxy after the fall of the Galactic Empire. Oh, and let's not forget about his companion, the now-iconic Grogu AKA Baby Yoda . WATCH ON DISNEY+

Battlestar Galactica (2004-2009)

In the spirit of revisiting classic sci-fi television, for an updated version of the original Battlestar Galactica , try 2004's refreshed version. While not entirely a remake, it offers a more modern view of the cult classic, which originally ran from 1978-1979. Starring Edward James Olmos ( Stand and Deliver ), Mary McDonnell ( Donnie Darko ), Jamie Bamber ( Law and Order: UK ), and, who can forget, Katee Sackhoff 's iconic Kara "Starbuck" Thrace, the show is sure to hit that same, familiar space exploration note.

Lost In Space (2018-2021)

For another modernized take on a classic, try the remake of Lost in Space , based on the original that ran from 1965-1968. The Robinsons are a family who wanted to start over on a space colony (very relatable), but they end up on an uncharted alien planet instead and must struggle for survival. The remake stars Toby Stephens ( Die Another Day ) and Molly Parker ( The Wicker Man ) as Mr. and Mrs. Robinson and ran for three seasons on Netflix.

Star Trek Producers Try To Follow One Rule With Strange New Worlds

Spock, Christopher Pike, and Una Chin-Riley

Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers have used "Strange New Worlds" to explore the fun side of space travel and push the envelope. From the spooky horror elements of "All Those Who Wander" to the romantic comedy of "Charades," the series has experimented with various genres to tell different stories. Despite the variety on display, however, the creators still have guidelines to adhere to.

While speaking to Variety , Goldsman and Myers revealed that their only rule is to make each season feel episodic. "You shouldn't have to watch a 'previously on' to watch our show," Myers said. This means viewers can pop in whenever they feel like it, knowing that the series isn't 100% beholden to pre-existing "Star Trek" media.

Goldsman and Myers intend to stick to the formula that's worked so well until now, so viewers can expect more genre-hopping adventures and episodic storytelling moving forward. Of course, the "Strange New Worlds" producers aren't the only "Star Trek" alums who've had to follow a rulebook throughout the years, as the franchise used to be much stricter.

Star Trek rules were made to be broken

"Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry was protective of his baby. As such, he devised a franchise rulebook that other producers, showrunners, and writers are supposed to abide by. Roddenberry's bible covers everything from character relationships to instructions on how "Star Trek" should approach the sci-fi genre, but some people have disobeyed the mastermind's edicts. One rule regarding "Spock" even caused a behind-the-scenes fight on "Star Trek: The Next Generation,"  and a change was implemented as a result.

While shows like "Star Trek: Discovery" have continued to break Roddenberry's rules , their existence shows this franchise is treated with care. The creators must consider the bigger picture when developing new projects, even if they occasionally stray from the path. "Strange New Worlds" might have its own rules to follow, but the series actually breaks one of Roddenberry's, as he didn't want characters from "Star Trek: The Original Series" to be used in other shows. Times have changed since then, though, and "Strange New Worlds" is exploring new frontiers for the long-running sci-fi franchise.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds - Hodnocení

Star trek: discovery just did a secret strange new worlds crossover.

Star Trek: Discovery season 5 brought Captain Burnham to the Mirror Universe's Starship Enterprise. If the sets look familiar, it's because they are.

Warning: SPOILERS for Star Trek: Discovery Season 5, Episode 5 - "Mirrors"

  • Star Trek: Discovery Season 5, Episode 5 was a crossover with Strange New Worlds' Enterprise sets.
  • Captain Burnham found the Mirror Universe's ISS Enterprise in interdimensional space.
  • The two Star Trek series share sets in Toronto and they have filmed on each other's sets before.

Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 5, "Mirrors," was a secret crossover with Star Trek: Strange New Worlds . Written by Johanna Lee & Carlos Cisco and directed by Jen McGowan, Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 5 sent Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Cleveland Booker (David Ajala) into interdimensional space in pursuit of Moll (Eve Harlow), L'ak (Elias Toufexis), and the next clue to the ancient treasure of the Progenitors. Burnham never expected to find the derelict ISS Enterprise from the Mirror Universe within the dangerous wormhole.

Star Trek: The Original Series season 2, episode 4, "Mirror, Mirror", introduced the Mirror Universe and the ISS Enterprise , the alternate reality counterpart of the USS Enterprise. The ISS Enterprise hadn't been seen since, but Star Trek: Discovery revealed refugees attempted to flee the Mirror Universe aboard the Constitution Class ship. The passengers, including Science Officer Dr. Cho, abandoned the Enterprise in interdimensional space and made it to Star Trek 's Prime Universe. Later, Dr. Cho returned to hide her clue to the Progenitors' treasure aboard the ISS Enterprise.

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Returning Cast & New Character Guide

Star trek: discovery season 5 filmed on strange new worlds’ enterprise set, discovery and strange new worlds film on adjacent sets in toronto.

Although no characters from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds appeared in Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 5 - which makes sense since the two series are set over 930 years apart in Star Trek 's timeline - "Mirrors" was filmed on Strange New Worlds ' USS Enterprise sets which doubled for the ISS Enterprise. Star Trek: Discovery and Strange New Worlds shoot in Toronto on adjacent soundstages and both shows have access to each other's sets. In an interview with Screen Rant , David Ajala confirmed that Discovery filmed its scenes in late 2022 after Strange New Worlds season 2 wrapped production.

Sharing sets is a Star Trek tradition going back to the 1990s Star Trek series.

This type of 'crossover' between Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has happened before . Strange New Worlds season 2, episode 2 , "Ad Astra Per Aspera" shot its courtroom scenes for Lt. Commander Una Chin-Riley's (Rebecca Romijn) trial in Discovery 's Federation headquarters set. Sharing sets is a Star Trek tradition going back to the 1990s Star Trek series when Star Trek: The Next Generation , Star Trek: Voyager, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine would film on each others' sets as a cost-saving measure.

Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country redressed Star Trek: The Next Generation 's 10 Forward set to become the office of the Federation President (Kurtwood Smith).

Can Discovery & Strange New Worlds Have A Real Star Trek Crossover?

It's unlikely, but not completely impossible..

Star Trek: Discovery season 1's finale and season 2 can be credited as the first Star Trek 'crossover' of the Paramount+ era when the USS Enterprise, Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount), Lt. Spock (Ethan Peck), and Number One joined the show. The trio proved so popular, fans clamored for them to receive their own spinoff set aboard the Starship Enterprise, which became Star Trek: Strange New Worlds . Star Trek: Discovery then jumped forward to the 32nd century, and it was a one-way trip that left the Enterprise and the 23rd century permanently behind. But can a Discovery and Strange New Worlds crossover still happen?

Yet there are possibilities for a Discovery and Strange New Worlds crossover.

There won't be a crossover with Star Trek: Discovery season 5 outside of Burnham, Book, Moll, and L'ak occupying the ISS Enterprise in "Mirrors" . Discovery season 5 has long since wrapped production and the hunt for the Progenitors' technology doesn't leave room for any time travel to see Strange New Worlds' characters . Yet there are possibilities for a Discovery and Strange New Worlds crossover. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 is in production and the series is renewed for season 4. Perhaps a way could be found to have Captain Burnham see Captain Pike and Spock one more time. Or both show's characters may meet on neutral ground through various sci-fi means on Star Trek: Starfleet Academy . Where there's a will, there's a way to still crossover Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds .

New episodes of Star Trek: Discovery season 5 stream Thursdays on Paramount+
