Map for the Egypt Expedition tour

Read up on your pharaohs, board your overnight flight to Cairo, and channel your inner-mummy for some shut eye. You’re about to uncover a trip you’ll never forget.

This tour requires a visa for U.S. citizens. Check entry requirements or call us with questions at 800-766-2645.

Welcome to Cairo! The capital city of Egypt is the starting point for your odyssey through ancient wonders and modern marvels. From the banks of the Nile River straight into your eyeballs, Cairo is an extraordinary city, home to nearly 20 million people, and the gateway to the Great Pyramids.

Please note: Getting to Egypt takes some time. Arrivals tend to be late on this day.

Today's highlights:

  • Land at the airport and meet a waiting EF representative.
  • Transfer to your hotel, check out your room, and start to meet your fellow travelers as they arrive.
  • Enjoy an included dinner upon arrival to your hotel.

Forget everything you learned in history class. Actually, wait, don’t do that. Just be prepared to have your mind blown seeing all the Egyptian stuff you learned about in school IRL on your tour of Cairo.

In the evening, enjoy a Welcome Dinner of local cuisine and drinks with fellow travelers at an authentic local spot. Afterwards, you’re free to take the party elsewhere!

  • Explore Coptic Cairo, a historically Christian neighborhood, that’s home to some of the world’s oldest churches.
  • Float like a butterfly to the Muhammed Ali Mosque (named for the founder of modern Egypt, not the boxer) within the Salah El-Din Citadel overlooking the city.

It’s time. Today you get to spend time at the oldest, and only remaining Wonder of the Ancient World: the Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx. Two fun facts we love about the Great Pyramid: it was the tallest structure in the world for nearly 4,000 years; and Cleopatra lived closer in time to the moon landing than the construction of the Great Pyramid. This not a drill, people, this is one of humankind’s greatest accomplishments in the flesh.

  • Tour the grounds and take plenty of pictures at the Giza Necropolis, where you’ll learn about the construction, excavation, and the pharaohs buried here.
  • Experience the unrivaled majesty of the Great Pyramid of Giza.
  • Shake paws with the Great Sphinx: part lion, part human, fully awesome.

Kiss Cairo goodbye and head south to Luxor today. Sure, Giza gets all the attention—it sits at the popular kids table—but trust us when we say that Luxor is every bit as stunning and jam-packed with ancient treasures. Once the site of the city of Thebes, now dubbed “the world’s greatest open-air museum.”

  • Board your short morning flight from Cairo to Luxor.
  • Pick your jaw up off the ground as you stroll through the sprawling temple complexes of Karnak and Luxor, which includes the Great Temple of Amun-Re and the Avenue of the Sphinxes.
  • Admire the still intact hieroglyphics decorating the walls and pillars. That one over there looks like it says “buy a round of beers for your group.“ Weird!
  • Taste the local specialties with an included dinner in Luxor.

Here be mummies. Cross the Nile today and behold the sacred sights of the West Bank of Luxor. For 500 years, this is where ancient Egyptians built tons of tombs and shrines to royalty including Queen Hatshepsut and King Tut. Explore the thusly-named Valley of the Kings today, and do your best not to disturb any sleeping pharaohs.

  • Listen closely as your guide teaches you about the Valley of the King’s many limestone tombs and their ancient inhabitants.
  • Look straight up at the Colossi of Memnon—two 60-foot statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III that you would not want to play basketball against.
  • Climb the stairs of the reconstructed Temple of Queen Hatshepsut built into the cliffs.
  • Visit the tomb of King Tut, the valley’s most famous resident, where for an extra cost, you may enter the burial chamber to see his mummy where it still lays at rest.
  • Cruise down the Nile on a felucca—a traditional Egyptian sailboat, the likes of which have been in use since ancient times—for a magical sunset.

Hop in a hot air balloon before dawn and get a new perspective on Egypt from all the way up. See firsthand from the fertile Nile to the endless desert as far as the eye can see. Please note that departure for sunrise is subject to weather conditions. Why wait? Save money by booking this optional excursion before your trip departs.

After a full day of mummy hunting, be sure to check yourself for any supernatural curses. Be a good pal and check your neighbor, too. None? Great! Today you’re headed up the Nile to Dendera, home to one of the best-preserved temple complexes remaining from Ancient Egypt.

  • Take a private morning bus to Dendera—just long enough to edit all your pics thus far.
  • Enjoy the immaculately preserved Dendera Temple Complex and be sure to look up at the ceiling, recently cleaned of centuries of soot to reveal the original paint.
  • Take a peek at the Dendera Light Relief—a wall carving that some say depicts modern usage of electricity in ancient times.
  • Continue on to the Red Sea coastal resort city of Hurghada, and enjoy an included dinner upon arrival.

After a week in the desert, you may be shocked by how happy you are to see sand. Specifically, the pristine white sand beaches of Mahmya where the perfectly turquoise water of the Red Sea meets Giftun Island. Trade in your archaeologist trowel for a beach towel, and make a splash in paradise.

  • Soak up some sun on the world class beaches of Mahmya.
  • Cool off in the water with swimming and some of the best snorkeling found anywhere.
  • Indulge in island life with an included Egyptian lunch & dinner.

Good news! Your prayers to the sun god, Ra, have been answered. Today you get a full day in Hurghada to do as you please, and plenty of food included for lunch and dinner. Enjoy the amenities of the resort town, lay back, catch some rays, and try and remember to also pray to the god of sunscreen.

Free time suggestions

Kushari: If you haven’t by now, be sure to try the mouthwatering ubiquitous hodgepodge: kushari. Rice + pasta + lentils, mixed together and smothered in a spiced tomato sauce = drool. Beach Time: If you didn’t get enough sun yesterday, hit the beach today for a little R&R. When in paradise, do as the Egyptians do.

It’s your last day in Egypt. You’ve almost climbed the metaphorical pyramid that is this trip. As you head back to Cairo for one last day of fun, sun, and sailing, be sure to think back on all the exploring you did: pyramids, temples, vibrant marketplaces, a rich culture not so different from your own, and heck, maybe even a little self-discovery out there on the road.

Farewell Dinner Share some last laughs and revisit the best moments of the trip at this included farewell dinner with the group.

  • Return to Cairo via private bus, and start planning your reunion trip somewhere new with this group of people who have gone from strangers to family in a mere 10 days.
  • Bargain your way through a souk—a traditional Egyptian open-air market perfect for people-watching, and picking up those last-minute souvenirs.

Wadaeaan ya aisdiqa'! Your next destination awaits—home. Before you head to the airport, make sure to take one more group photo and grab that final drink. But this isn’t goodbye because you can always get the gang back together for another trip soon.

Country #1: Egypt

Exploring egypt with ef ultimate break: egypt cruise the nile.

We really hit the ground running with Egypt! To be honest we were in between starting somewhere in South America, or Egypt. Don’t ask me how we narrowed it down to those two locations. Ultimately it ended up being pretty much a coin flip and off to Egypt we went!

To ease ourselves into full-time travel, we found a group trip with EF Ultimate Break that had the perfect first time to Egypt itinerary in my opinion (Egypt: Cruise the Nile). We got there a few days early and spent the time exploring the Pyramids and getting adjusted to our first time change of many. To see more of what we did each day check out the links to our under a minute vlogs and to see what we spent each day click the budget breakdown link below!

Brush up on your hieroglyphs, board your overnight flight to Egypt, and get some shut eye—just channel your inner mummy. You’re about to uncover a trip you’ll never forget.

Welcome to Giza, just a hop across the Nile from Cairo, Egypt’s capital, and home to some really, really, really old stuff like the Pyramids. Give ’em a wave, because they’re literally RIGHT THERE. Casual.

Today's highlights:

  • Meet an EF representative and fellow travelers as they arrive at the airport.
  • Transfer to your hotel to check in and check out your room.
  • Rest up before your adventure begins in the AM.

Forget everything you learned in history class. Actually, don’t do that. Just be prepared to have your mind blown seeing all the Egyptian stuff you learned about in school as you tour Cairo.

  • Visit the Egyptian Museum to gawk at ancient artifacts and learn about Egyptology.
  • Explore Coptic Cairo, a historically Christian neighborhood and home to some of the world’s oldest churches.
  • Float like a butterfly to the Muhammed Ali Mosque (named for the founder of modern Egypt, not the boxer) within the Salah El-Din Citadel.
  • Enjoy a Welcome Dinner with your fellow travelers.

It’s here. You're seeing the oldest and only remaining Wonder of the Ancient World: the Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx. This is not a drill, people. This is one of humankind’s greatest accomplishments in the flesh.

  • Tour the grounds and take plenty of pics at the Giza Necropolis, where you’ll learn about the construction, excavation, and the pharaohs buried here.
  • Experience the unrivaled majesty of the Great Pyramids.
  • Shake paws with the Great Sphinx—part lion, part human, 100% awesome.

Say hello to Amman! Jordan’s capital is a bustling metropolis with all the amenities you could want, friendly Arabic chatter in the streets, and beautifully preserved ancient ruins.

  • Hop a morning flight to Amman, Jordan.
  • Spend the afternoon sightseeing with your Tour Director.
  • Hit the souk for dinner on your own and some souvenir hunting.

Take a day trip to Jerash, sometimes called “The Pompeii of the East.” No volcanoes here, though—just perfectly preserved Greco-Roman ruins. Then make your way to the Dead Sea for a dip in the lowest point on Earth.

  • Strut down the streets of Jerash like an emperor, stopping at Hadrian’s Arch, built to honor an (actual) emperor’s visit in 129 AD.
  • Get in the ring at the Hippodrome—an ancient Greek arena used for horse racing.
  • Swim in the Dead Sea and see what water ten times saltier than the ocean feels like.
  • Head back to Amman for a night of free time.

Today you’re going to Wadi Musa, or “Valley of Moses,” the nearest town to the wonder that is Petra. On the way, learn about sustainable development at Al Numeira and visit Little Petra, or as we like to call it, Petra Jr.

  • Stop at Al Numeira for an authentic Jordanian lunch and learn about the organization’s sustainable practices.
  • Continue to Little Petra, which is just as "whoa” as Big Petra, but cuter and with fewer people.
  • Arrive in Wadi Musa, just a hop, a skip, and a jump from Petra.
  • Take the evening to explore and chill with your fellow travelers.

One of the most magnificent feats in ancient architecture, Petra, the Sandstone City, awaits you through a spectacular winding canyon. Continue to the desert oasis of Wadi Rum for a magical night of stargazing.

  • Join a local guide on a Siq walk of Petra. Siq means canyon, but yeah, it IS pretty sick.
  • Gaze at the world-famous Al-Khazneh temple carved right into the cliffs.
  • Travel to Wadi Rum—you might recognize it from countless movies, like The Martian and a few Star Wars films.
  • Relax at an included dinner, then goggle at the stars with professional astronomers.

Today you’re in for a thrill ride: a Jeep 4x4 tour of the Wadi Rum Desert Valley, the closest thing there is to Mars on Earth. Check out red sand dunes, wild rock formations, and even the house Lawrence of Arabia lived in.

  • Climb into your 4x4 and experience Wadi Rum with an expert local guide.
  • Soak in the sights in ways you wouldn’t be able to on foot.
  • Enjoy an included dinner and free time to bask in the otherworldly beauty of Wadi Rum.

Get killer sunrise views of Wadi Rum from the vantage point only a hot air balloon can provide. This excursion is  pre-book  only; if your trip is less than twenty days away, please call 800-766-2645 to purchase.

You’re back in Amman, the White City, and the perfect place to spend your last day in Jordan. Where did the time go? We’ll tell you—making new friends, exploring ancient pyramids, and stargazing in the desert, nbd.

  • Stop at Kerak en route to Amman to check out a big ol’ castle built by Christian crusaders in the 1100s.
  • Chow down on some mansaf, scroll through your pics, and relive all the mems on your last day.
  • Share some laughs (and maybe shed a few tears) at an included Farewell Dinner with your group.

Ma’a salama ‘asadqayaa! Translation: Goodbye, friends! Your next destination awaits—home. But this isn’t goodbye. It’s “See you later.” The only question is, where?

New friends in far-away places

“For as long as I can remember I have wanted to see Egypt. I was expecting this trip to be wonderful. My experience was even better than I could have imagined. ... I had a personal encounter with an Egyptian family. The mother and father gently smiled and indicated that their small daughter could speak English. The little girl extended her hand and said, 'How do you do?' The parents were obviously proud; I was overwhelmed by the compliment. ...”

EF Go Ahead Tours Review 2024: Are their guided tours worth it?

EF Go Ahead Tours Review 2024: Are their guided tours worth it?

EF Go Ahead Tours is a world-leading guided tour company offering a comprehensive travel package with local guides and authentic travel experiences. You've likely heard of them before, but are they really worth it? What do they offer, and how do they stack up to other guided tours?

ef tours to egypt

Guided tours are a great way to travel, make new friends, and enjoy new experiences without the hassle of planning the logistics of the trip.

While guided tour companies boast of convenience, they tend to fall short when it comes to flexibility and customization. Hence, many travelers resort to planning their trips by themselves using helpful apps like  Pilot .

But, if you still prefer a guided tour with some level of flexibility, EF Go Ahead Tours is definitely a choice to consider.

EF Go Ahead Tours is one of the world's largest tour companies that host small group tours with unique, authentic experiences. A great benefit of joining an EF Go Ahead Tour is that they allow travelers the benefits of hosting a free private tour with larger groups.

However, are the experiences they're offering for you? What are the pros and cons? Here's our review of EF Go Ahead Tours!

EF Go Ahead Tours Logo.

What is EF Go Ahead Tours?

EF Go Ahead Tours  is a brand under the EF Tours group that offers both guided and fully customizable tours to destinations worldwide. It caters to young and older travelers, admitting anyone from age six and above (under-age travelers accompanied by adults). The number of travelers in each group is capped at 14-38, and small group tours only admit 10-22 people.

EF Go Ahead Tours aims to provide you with meaningful tours with flexibility and personalization. It also promotes responsible travel by supporting local communities and adopting sustainable practices.

EF Go Ahead Tours mobile app helps you easily manage your bookings and view tour details. It is available for both Android and iOS devices.

What does EF Go Ahead Tours offer?

  • Tour directors and local guides:  A tour director is assigned for each group to be in charge of all logistics of the trip. They will accompany you throughout, sharing insider knowledge and background information about places you visit.
  • Accommodation:  3-4 star hotels that provide comfortable amenities while being located in close proximity to the city.
  • Meals:  Breakfast and some other meals are included in the pricing. Primarily, they focus on local food and beverage specialties. They will arrange meals meeting your dietary requirements if necessary.
  • Transportation:  Transport between airport and hotels and other transportation required during the trip are included in the package. While flights are not included, you can get EF Go Ahead Tours to arrange them for you at an additional cost.

EF Go Ahead tour benefits.

How does EF Go Ahead Tours work?

You can browse for tours by  Destination  or  Travel Styles  on the website. Travel styles are further categorized as  Trip Type, Interests, Seasonal and Special Events , and  With Your Own Group .

For example, all the related tours will appear if we pick Adventure Tours under travel styles. You can filter the results further by destination, dates, duration, price, and travel style.

Check out its details, trip highlights, prices, reviews, etc. There's a list of FAQs below related to the trip and other similar tours for you to compare and choose from.

What destinations does EF Go Ahead Tours cover?

EF Go Ahead Tours covers many of the popular destinations worldwide. Here's a list of where EF Go Ahead Tours covers:

  • Europe:  Ireland, Italy, Greece, Iceland, England, France, and Germany
  • The Americas:  United States, Canada, Costa Rica, Peru, Ecuador, and Belize
  • Africa & Middle East:  Egypt, Kenya, Israel, South Africa, Turkey, and United Arab Emirates
  • Australia & Asia:  Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, India, and Thailand

Benefits of EF Go Ahead Tours

  • Worry-free guarantee

If you cancel the booking within 60 days from the reservation date, you are entitled to a full refund. EF Go Ahead Tours also allows you to change the date of tour or destination up until your final payment day. It helps you book with confidence knowing there's ample time to make changes.

In addition to covering many destinations worldwide, the tour company also offers a diverse range of tours. Group trips for solo travelers provide ample privacy while facilitating socialization. In addition, there are cruise tours, rail tours, food & wine tours, battlefield tours, winter tours, and many more!

  • Fewer people

The worrisome factor about large group tours is they can seem too crowded and noisy to have a quality experience. There's also less opportunity to get to know other travelers better. In this case, small group tours offer a more intimate travel experience. Guides can give individual attention and advice easily. Overall, it makes the trip more enjoyable and memorable.

  • Flexibility

If you like to travel with friends but don't have the liberty to plan, get EF Go Ahead Tours to plan one for you. You can explain your requirements and get a whole new itinerary done or choose one they offer. Invite your friends and/or family, choose your travel dates, and enjoy. There's also the option of organizing faith-based tours!

Adventure travel experiences.

Drawbacks of EF Go Ahead Tours

  • Increase the number of tours

While there's a variety of tours, different trip options under each category are quite limited compared to other guided tour companies like  G Adventures  or  Contiki . For example, there's only one tour option for India. They can also add more countries to their list of destinations.

  • Improve refund and cancellation issues

Customers had faced refund and cancellation issues for scheduled or booked tours during the pandemic. There were complaints of EF Go Ahead Tours not refunding the money as per its cancellation policy. But, it's a common problem that many tour companies dealt with their customers following the Covid outbreak. We hope they are resolved now.

EF Go Ahead Tours vs. EF Ultimate Break

The most significant similarity between EF Go Ahead Tours and EF Ultimate Break is that they are managed by EF Education First Tours. This means that you'll most likely be getting a similar refund, cancellation, and customer service policies between the two tours.

EF Go Ahead Tours identifies itself as the 'older sibling' of EF Ultimate Break. Ultimate Break Tours is geared towards college students and folks aged 18-29, while Go Ahead Tours admits anyone 6 and above. So, the tours offered also tend to be different from each other.

EF Go Ahead Tours has a wide variety of tours catering to all age ranges. It also provides both private and group tours. EF Ultimate Break only offers group tours and are tailored to suit youth's preferences.

Is EF Go Ahead Tours worth it?

Yes! We came across great GoAheadTours reviews online about the unique and immersive experience EF Go Ahead Tours offers. Go Ahead tours are a great way to travel if you prefer to join a guided tour.

Like  Flash Pack , it's an excellent choice for older travelers looking for trips that involve activities beyond partying and drinking. Overall, the tours are ideal for anyone, really.

Our Rating: 4.5/5

  • Variety of tours
  • Smaller groups
  • A limited number of tours
  • Refund and cancellation issues

Plan your own adventure!

Guided tours are great, but being able to plan your trip is even better! You get to choose your own stay, tailor your travel itinerary, and maximize your time so that none gets wasted.
