Final Thoughts: Carp Fishing Holidays UK

There are plenty of great venues to choose from, whether you’re after a quiet and peaceful getaway or a more action-packed adventure.

Carp fishing is a great way to relax and enjoy the outdoors, and there are plenty of beautiful locations to choose from in the UK.

If you’re new to carp fishing, or just want to brush up on your skills, there are plenty of great venues that offer tuition and guidance .

So, that’s our guide to some of the best UK carp fishing holidays!

Yes, there are plenty of carp fishing holidays that are dog friendly. In fact, many fishing venues will accommodate your furry friend so you can enjoy a relaxing fishing break with your dog.

France is the hottest destination for carp holidays, but the UK also has a strong presence in the carp fishing world. Carp fishing holidays are so popular because they offer anglers the chance to fish in relative peace for a longer period, usually a week or so.

This depends on the venue you choose to take a carp holiday at. Some locations may supply their own bait available for you to purchase on-site. It’s always worth checking with the venue in advance to see what their bait policy is before booking.

This again depends on the venue and location. However, many carp fishing holidays have lakes stocked with carp over 20lbs in weight. So, if you’re hoping to catch a big one, a carp fishing holiday could be the perfect place to do it!

The cost of a carp fishing holiday can vary depending on the location, venue and length of stay. However, you can expect to pay around £500 for a week-long carp fishing holiday in the UK.

Aside from your fishing tackle , you’ll need to bring a valid fishing license (if you’re fishing in the UK) and appropriate clothing for the weather. It’s also a good idea to bring a power source so you keep communication with the outside world open -or not!

Top Sea Angling Marks - Where Can You Go Sea Fishing in the UK?

This entry was posted on 2nd April, 2021 by Anna Cooper

Top Sea Angling Marks - Where Can You Go Sea Fishing in the UK?

In the United Kingdom, we are blessed with some of the finest coastlines in Europe for sea angling. With Britain being such a slender island, getting from the central mainland to the coast is never too difficult. For those family seaside holidays coming up, there is bound to some beach trips so why pick somewhere you can squeeze some fishing in too?

Perfect for beginner shore anglers, the UK has plenty of fishing on offer from the beaches as well as charter fishing opportunities offering more adventurous sea anglers the chance for offshore fishing. This guide will provide a host of locations to add to your sea fishing trips bucket list, as well as including all the relevant information around that beach and sea mark; from best baits to parking!

To make things a little bit easier and to ensure we cover the majority of the UK, this guide will sort the locations for sea fishing into the different areas of the UK.

The Republic of Ireland is not part of the UK and therefore is not featured in this guide, however, if you are interested in coastal locations to fish in the Republic of Ireland as well as other venues for freshwater fishing, visit our dedicated guide .

Sea Fishing Spots Near Me?

You can find all the sea fishing locations mentioned in this guide on the map below. You never know, you may have been local to a hidden gem!

Wanting to find the nearest sea fishing tackle shop to your venue? We have added the local Angling Directs to the venues too. If you want all our store location, visit our store finder.

Scotland shares its coast with both the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea making its coasts and islands great places to cast your line. You can view even more Scotland fishing locations, sea and freshwater here.

T he Orkney Islands, Kirkwall

Towards the eastern coast of Scotland, the islands surrounding Orkney offer a few sea fishing hot spots such as Kirkwall Harbour Bay and Tingwall Port (an ideal location to land smaller sea species). The Orkney Islands has plenty of sandy beaches such as Newark Bay where anglers have a chance of decent bass. There is also Orkney Islands Sea Angling Association that offer 4, 6 or 8 hours charter boat sessions.

Kirkcudbright Harbour, Galloway

The Dumfries and Galloway coastline in the south-west of Scotland is considered by many sea anglers to be one of the finest fishing spots in the UK. This sea angling venue is great for fans of lure fishing methods, with the popular marks being Brighouse Bay (15 minute drive away) as it offers various flatfish species as well as the chance of a bass. Fishing in the harbour will land you flounder and dogfish. is a popular area for sea angling near this location. You can check the tides for Brighouse Bay for ideal fishing times on the Tides Chart website .

Ayr Harbour, South Ayrshire

Ayr Harbour and Pier offers plenty of fishing opportunities for sea anglers after a range of species. The south side of the harbour does see most of the angling due to being closer to pier access points. There is also charter boat fish available with the Ayr Sea Angling Club .

North West Coast of England

Most of the West coast of England shares its coastline with the Irish Sea.

Blackpool Piers, Blackpool

There are three main piers in Blackpool, all of which offer good fishing for a wide range of species. Getting access to these piers, especially the North Pier can be challenging due to the restricted access and the Central and South requiring memberships of local angling clubs. Many visiting anglers head to the North Wall as it offers a high tide and therefore plenty of fish.

Rossall Point, Fleetwood

On the Fylde coast, this mark offers a mixed ground beach that is covered with gullies, rocky outcrops and groynes, producing some great fishing.

LOCAL ANGLING DIRECT TACKLE SHOP – AD PRESTON

North east of england.

The north, eastern coast of England is met by the North Sea. If you are travelling from the southern part of England you are likely to pass AD Leeds .

Berwick-upon-Tweed, Northumberland

A peninsula between the sea and the River Tweed, this location is great for shore fishing, especially Spittal and Goswick Beaches. Fishing in the summer around the Needle’s Eye area can be promising for bass. During very calm conditions in the summer, fish by the pier and harbour for mullet.

Hendon Promenade, Sunderland

The promenade stretching along Hendon is a popular fishing mark that offers easy access thanks to parking along the promenade. The sloping beach is interspersed by wooden groynes and rocky sea defences which can be fished over. Anglers should note that the ground around the prom can be quite snaggy, but it depends on the tide and part you are casting from. Anglers should be aware that fishing near heavy seas waves can be dangerous as they crash over the blue fences. Low water fishing on the beach in front of the prom has given the best results. Check tides here .

The Midlands of England

The midlands locations are picked both from the East coast with your nearest AD stores being Leeds and Hulls .

Whitby Beach, North Yorkshire

Throughout the summer species such as and the occasional Bass can be caught from the Whitby shorelines whereas the winter brings in plenty of Cod to catch. If you stick to land, eels can be caught closer to the harbour and pier. Whitby East pier is usually quiet with the west pier more popular, due to having two levels for casting off.

Robin Hood’s Bay, Yorkshire

As one of the UK’s most scenic sea fishing marks that is lined with flat rocks, and skirted by red cliffs, this large bay also offers great angling opportunity. Make sure to fish at high tide as the tide comes right up to the base of the sea wall, allowing good fishing to take place several hours. At low tide, great marks to consider are Stoupe Beck Sands, Boggle Hole (1 mile south) and Long Hole, all along the bay.

East of England

The East of England coastline is met by the southern waters of the North Sea, with coastal counties including Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex. For more Norfolk fishing venues, view our dedicated guide.

Trimingham Beach, Mundesley

Despite being relatively difficult to access, Trimingham beach is well worth the trip for the view alone. With high cliffs that backs the beach and a base protected by a wooden barrier and groynes, this venue is pretty impressive, although checking for the low tide is advisable.

LOCAL ANGLING DIRECT TACKLE SHOPS – AD WROXHAM & AD NORWICH .

Kessingland beach, suffolk.

Kessingland Beach gives sea anglers the chance to catch a variety of species from the shoreline and is less commercial than neighbouring Lowestoft or Southwold shoreline making it perfect for peaceful sea fishing. It is even a favourite sea mark of the Angling Direct Youtube team !

NEAREST ANGLING DIRECT TACKLE SHOP – AD BECCLES

Thames estuary.

The Thames Estuary offers amazing fishing for many edible and great tasting species of fish. Catches vary month by month as the seasons change so there is always great fishing to be had!

Woolwich, London

This sea fishing spot offers angling opportunities just an hours drive from central London. Despite being 50 miles from the north sea, this spot along the tidal flood barrier in Woolwich is home to migrating sea fish species that swims up the Thames. It is where the Thames water turns a bit salty! It's best fished for 4 hours on either side of high water.

LOCAL ANGLING DIRECT TACKLE SHOP – AD CRAYFORD

Kingsferry bridge, isle of sheppey.

Located in the south-east, within Kent, on the Isle of Sheppey, the Kingsferry Bridge not only offers pathways from the mainland to the island but also offers great fishing locations. It is surrounded by the end of the Thames estuary as well as merging with the south of the North Sea. The stretch of Swale river that runs under the bridge has an open sea on either side of it, offering some bizarre tides, especially when the sea running in both directions and creating natural food traps, creating a constant presence of sea species.

LOCAL ANGLING DIRECT TACKLE SHOP – AD SITTINGBOURNE

South-east of england.

The south-eastern coast of England offers catches from the North Sea and the Strait of Dover /Dover Strait / Dover Narrows, which is a merging of the narrowest part of the English Channel and the North Sea. Coastal counties include Kent, West Sussex, East Sussex and Hampshire.

Whitstable Beach and Harbour, Kent

The town is very much known for its Oysters, Whitstable offers anglers plenty of angling opportunities for sea fishing. Marks around the harbour can be productive with similar species present also at the pebble beach, casting between the wooden groynes. Open sandy beaches heading towards Seasalter can produce when there is some sea running, however, these beaches can be quite shallow, meaning long casting can be needed to reach the fish. To avoid tourists, it's best to come night fishing and at this time fish also come into shallower water so the chances of catching improve.

CLOSEST ANGLING DIRECT TACKLE SHOP – AD SITTINGBOURNE

Dungeness beach, kent.

Considered to be one of the top sea fishing venues in the country. Dungeness Beach is located near Lydd and sports a sloping shingle structure that provides access to snag-free deep water. The whole coastline of Dungeness produces great fish for sea angling but a hot spot can be found next to the lighthouses.

Fishing in the UK

Just an hour or so from London are the chalkstreams of southern England – rivers such as the Test and Itchen – where modern dry fly-fishing techniques were pioneered in gin-clear waters famous for their abundant mayfly hatches and pristine fish.

Less well known, but equally as spectacular, are the wild rivers and streams of Wales, home to some exceptional fly-fishing for brown trout. And then of course, there are the salmon rivers of northern England and Scotland. Names such as the Tay, Tweed, Spey and the Dee conjure up images of classic salmon water in rugged countryside.

The scale might not be comparable with the wilderness fisheries of North America and elsewhere, but in terms of accessibility and quality, fishing in the UK more than makes up for it.

Luxury Lodge Breaks With Private Fishing Pegs

I’m a big fan of Glamping and lodges for a short break with my family so I’ve compiled a list of all the places across the UK where you can stay right on the bank! Some have hot tubs you can chill in after a “hard day’s fishing”.

These are mainly places with private pegs or swims where you can fish straight from your lodge! Some have fishing on site. Full details are on each listing.

Looking to fish for trout or salmon? See Fly fishing lodges here .

Please be aware – I have not visited all these places, unfortunately, the information comes from their own websites. Stock is what they report and not confirmed by me! Any I have visited will be noted in the information.

What Type of Accommodation Are You Looking For?

Use the options to find the right place for you. Select below and then select by region or see my top 5 places in the UK.

East Midlands

Name: bainside coarse fishery, kirby on bain.

Pod/ Lodge: Basic glamping pods, sleeps 2.

Number: Unsure

Lake size: 1.75 acres

Reported stock: Carp to 20s, bream to 12s,  Grass carp to 20s (unverified).

Website: bainside.co.uk/

Info: Glamping pods for 2 with direct lake fishing. Looks like a good place for bagging up on fish rather than specimen carp fishing. Nice for getting back to nature in pleasant surroundings.

Glamping pod at Bainside

Name: Springwood Fisheries, Derby

Pod/ Lodge: Pods

Number: Approximately 6 by the lake

Reported stock: Commins, Mirrors, Ghosties and slivers in the top lake.

Website: springwoodfisheries.com/

Info: Lodges are on the top lake that provides mixed coarse and match size carp fishing. The pods sleep 2 adults with 2 children on camp beds. They have a shower room & kitchenlle, campers seem to be on the opposite bank so not one if you are looking for privacy.

See all fishing lodges in Derbyshire here .

Name: Henlow Bridge Lakes, Henlow

Pod/ Lodge: They have both glamping pods and lodges on site. None are directly on the main fishing lakes.

Number: Numerous

Lake size: 2 lakes, the largest (Jordan’s) is 4.5 acres

Reported stock: Carp to 25lb to 30lb (not verified with photos)

Website: henlowbridgelakes.co.uk

Info: A camping and glamping site with 2 day ticket fishing lakes and a small stretch of the River Hiz.

Glamping pod with fishing nearby

Name: Lakeland Fisheries, Chelmsford

Pod/ Lodge: Luxury Yurts, some with hot tubs

Lake size: Three lakes, two pleasure lakes and one carp lake.

Reported stock: Looks a good mix of pleasure fishing from all lakes with the 5 acre Swan lake holding the larger carp, to 34lb. (No pictures seen to confirm)

Website: lakeland-yurts.co.uk

Info: Looks an idilic setting with 36 acres of country side and three lakes nestled in. The Yurts scream luxury and look a step up from the standard yurt glamping experience.

Yurt tents on the lakes

Name: Folly Foot fisheries, Sommerset

Pod/ Lodge: More a carp hut for 2 than actual glamping here.

Lake size: Aprrox 2.2 acres

Reported stock: Carp fishing only, sizes unknown

Website: follyfootfishery.co.uk

Info: The website is rather basic and the fishing photos section does not work. This is just a basic empty hut to replace a bivvy, with a wooden jetty in front to fish from.

Lodge on the lake at folly foot fishery

Name: Rum Bridge, Sudbury

Pod/ Lodge: Pods & bell tents

Number: Various

Lake size: 3 lakes on-site, back lake looking the best for an experienced carper

Reported Stock: Back lake record is a 42lb carp, the road lake is 32lb & the moat lake has tench to 8lb and crucians to 3lb.

Website: rumbridgefisheries.co.uk

Info: This looks to be one of the best places on the list! Although the back lake looks a real challenge, I’d describe it as a serious carpers lake. Its base stock starts at 22lb so if you do hit one you can be sure it is a decent fish. The glamping pods are mixed from basic pods with just 2 beds and bell tents.

Photos – the current lake record

Booking a fishing break

When booking a fishing break there are a number of things to consider, including can you fit everything into the car!

Here’s the list of things to consider

  • How far do you want to travel?
  • What sort of fishing are you looking for?
  • Do you need a lodge with a private peg?
  • Do you want a hot tub break?
  • Are you looking for a family site or serious carp fishing?

Once you have selected your break then check with the location to confirm how good the fishing is. Usually a check in their Facebook page will be enough to show you what size of carp are present in the lake.

There are hundreds of wrecks and numerous fishing grounds and reefs within easy reach which is why Brighton is one of the leading ports on the south coast for sea fishing in the UK. Come and enjoy a day aboard Grey Viking II. Our fast, spacious and well equipped 440hp 38ft Aquastar Pro-Fisherman is purpose built for fishing and one of the busiest charter boats in Brighton.

We cater for experienced anglers and beginners alike. Tuition and advice is available throughout the day if you need it. Brighton Sea Fishing Trips

Deep Sea – Wreck Fishing Trips

Our deep sea wreck fishing trips  are the first choice of many anglers. Brighton is well established as one of the premier wrecking venues in the UK, with over 200 wrecks in the deeper waters off the Sussex coast.

Early Season Pollack Fishing

Early in the year we fish for Pollack and January to April is the best time to target the bigger specimens.  Cod fishing starts in the spring and continues into autumn. We fish for both species drifting over the wrecks with lures.

24lb Summer Wreck Cod

From mid summer we also fish the wrecks at anchor using bait for Cod, Ling and  Conger Eels . Come and enjoy a day fishing with one of Brighton’s top wrecking Skippers aboard Grey Viking II.

Good Ling Fishing

Turbot and Brill Fishing Trips

The Turbot and Brill fishing from Brighton has been for superb the last few years with some great catches to be had in the summer and autumn. We fish for Turbot and Brill many miles offshore on various banks thats hold these highly prized fish.

Turbot fishing Brill fishing trips

Reef and Ground Fishing Trips

Our reef and ground fishing trips  are a more relaxing alternative to deep sea wrecking because we are fishing closer inshore in shallower water.

From the spring to autumn we mainly fish for Bream, Plaice, Dab, Ray’s, Smoothhound and Bass. Mackerel are usually plentiful during this period too.

April to June is the peak of the Black Bream fishing season on the famous Kingmere Rocks which is a huge reef to the west of Brighton.

Bream Fishing Kingmere

Winter Ground Fishing for Cod

Winter is an exciting time when the Cod move inshore and are caught within a few miles of the Marina and this is the time of year to try and catch a big one!

There are approximately 30,000 trout lochs in Scotland, and a wide variety of fish species in Scotland . Scotland has also some of the world’s most iconic salmon rivers , such as the  River Tweed ,  River Tay ,  River Spey  and  River Dee . These rivers in Scotland are steeped in myth and mystery, and for thousands of years, the salmon has been an ancient symbol of Scotland.

In addition to the Big 4 rivers and trout lochs of Scotland , there are thousands of smaller spate rivers throughout Scotland. Naturally, we fish the best of them. Meanwhile, let’s not forget the Highland rivers, where you can cast for salmon, amongst epic scenery.
