Kanye West raps at Coachella.

Hip-Hop’s most divisive figure is back for one night only.

On Thursday, Feb. 8, ¥$ — aka Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign — will host an official “Vultures, Volume 1” album release party and listening experience at Chicago’s United Center .

At the one-off show, the pair will debut their first official studio album “in a high-fidelity audio and visual showcase, crafted by Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign,” according to a press release.

Although details are sparse, attendees will be given the opportunity to “listen to the album together with the artists and album collaborators before it becomes available to the general public at 11 p.m. CST” that night.

The press release also suggests that “special guests (and) album collaborators” may be present.

While we can’t guarantee who will be there, we do know the best way to find out is live.

Want to be one of the first to hear “Vultures, Volume 1?”

As of now, tickets are available. At the time of publication, prices start at $118 before fees on Vivid Seats.

100-level seats can be picked up for as low as $183 before fees.

More details about the last-minute event can be found below.

All prices listed above are subject to fluctuation.

Kanye West at Chicago’s United Center tickets

A complete breakdown of all the best prices on tickets by United Center sections to see Kanye West and Ty Dolla Sign on Feb. 8 is available right here:

(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time. All prices are in US dollars, subject to fluctuation and include additional fees at checkout .)

Vivid Seats is a verified secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and your tickets will be delivered prior to the event.

About “Vultures, Volume 1”

This debut collaboration is quite star-studded.

Rumored special guests include Freddie Gibbs, Playboi Carti, Chris Brown, Future, Kid Cudi and many more.

Plus, West’s daughter North will likely make an appearance as well.

The lead single “Vultures” can be heard here .

You can also check out “TALKING/ONCE AGAIN” on West’s Instagram as well.

“Vultures, Volume 1” was teased all throughout 2023 and several listening parties were supposed to take place in Italy but were cancelled.

Should everything go according to plan, volumes two and three will be released on March 8 and April 5, respectively.

Kanye West controversy

Over the years, the 46-year-old Chicago native has generated quite a bit of ire.

His most notable recent dustup took place in late 2022 when he made a number of anti-Semitic statements which led to many companies he partnered with — including Gap, Adidas and Balenciega — dropping him from their labels.

West has since apologized for his unfortunate comments on Instagram, although that post is no longer available to view on his account at the time of publication.

Kanye West Returns to the Stage With Travis Scott

The rapper, now known as Ye, had not performed live since a series of antisemitic comments last year led to rebukes in music and fashion.

A live photo of Travis Scott, dressed in white, and Kanye West, outfitted in black, onstage.

By Ben Sisario

Ye, the rap star formerly known as Kanye West, on Monday made his first concert appearance after a series of antisemitic remarks on social media and in interviews last year, which led to his alienation from the music industry and loss of lucrative fashion deals with Adidas, Gap and Balenciaga.

Ye’s return to the stage came as a guest during a livestreamed album-release concert by Travis Scott at Circus Maximus, the park in central Rome that in ancient times was the site of a giant stadium where chariot races and other entertainment took place.

Scott, a protégé of Ye’s, brought his mentor out during a concert to celebrate his chart-topping new album, “Utopia.” With Scott dressed in white and Ye all in black — initially with a hood and mask, which didn’t stay on for long — they performed two Ye songs together: “Praise God,” from his 2021 album “Donda,” and “Can’t Tell Me Nothing,” a Kanye West classic from his 2007 album “Graduation.”

“There is no ‘Utopia’ without Kanye West,” Scott told the crowd. “There is no Travis Scott without Kanye West. There is no Rome without Kanye West.”

After years of erratic and controversial behavior, Ye finally crossed a line with the music and fashion industries last fall, after he showed up at Paris Fashion Week in a shirt that read “White Lives Matter,” and then tweeted that he would go “death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE.” That led to his expulsion from social media, his ejection from the Creative Artists Agency and the loss of his Yeezy brand sneaker and fashion design partnerships. The deal with Adidas had been especially valuable, contributing more than 10 percent of the $2 billion in profit that the company made in 2021.

Despite widespread condemnations, Ye doubled down on his comments. Last December, he joined “Infowars,” the online talk show hosted by Alex Jones, the conspiracy theorist who has been ordered to pay nearly $1.5 billion for promulgating lies about the Sandy Hook school shooting in 2012. On that show, Ye said, “I love Jewish people, but I also love Nazis,” and “I do love Hitler.”

Ye had largely kept a low profile since then, though last week Twitter restored Ye’s account. It had been suspended a day after the Infowars interview, with Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter — which has now been rebranded as X — saying that Ye had “violated our rule against incitement to violence.”

Before the Rome appearance, Ye’s last concert was in Miami in February 2022, promoting his album “Donda 2.”

Kanye West is a complete visionary who has shifted the course of pop culture time and time again, first as a producer and then as a rapper and fashion mogul.

Kanye was born in a middle class household in Chicago and was a creative from an early age, often writing poetry and becoming part of the city’s hip hop scene at a young age. He briefly attended college but dropped out when it became detrimental to the creation of his music.

He began producing beats for local artists, developing a signature style that utilized sped-up soul samples and before long he received his first big break when he became an in-house producer for Roc A Fella Records and was responsible for the now classic Jay Z Album ‘The Blueprint’.

Despite his production success, Kanye had maintained a desire to make it as a rapper but due to his unconventional style and background had struggled to secure a deal. Dame Dash reluctantly signed Kanye to Roc A Fella however Kanye was involved in a car accident which he was lucky to survive. With his jaw still wired shut, Kanye channeled his emotions into ‘through The Wire’, a single which would appear on his debut album ‘The College Dropout’ in 2004. The album is considered one of the most important Hip Hop debuts and had a lasting effect on the genre.

With each subsequent album Kanye changed up his sound and broken new ground. On 2008’s ‘808 and Hearrtbreaks’ for example, he embraced auto-tune singing and, although many were unsure at the time, it influenced the future sound of Hip Hop and Rnb (laying the framework for the likes of Drake to become huge stars). In 2013 he stunned fans again with the jarring ‘Yeezus’, which, with its industrial minimalism, shocked the genre to its core and won praise from critics in the process.

Live reviews

I gotta give it to Yeezus. He's still got the juice and for him to pack the 'Bowl' while performing a seven year old album is a testament to that fact. Show started an hour late and I had the feeling there would be some tech glitches, but you definitely couldn't hate on the effort. There was a small orchestra section stage right and on stage left what appeared to be a few DJ's and dudes on drum machines. The center of the stage featured 3 grand white staircases that were reconfigured between songs. There were fireworks at times which didn't quite fit the tone of the album, but who doesn't like fireworks. It was a party atmosphere and I felt a real connection with other fans simply based on the fact that WE LOVE THIS FUCKING ALBUM. We sang, we yelled, we danced, we laughed, and we reminisced about a Kanye that took us back to bring us forward.

Most memorable moments:

Staircases rotate to reveal 60 or so black men in rags and covered in dust. Very striking visual that reminded me of a slave ship. He used what I'll call "human props" throughout the show, but I felt like this moment resonated most.

Jeezy came out for Amazing, but the tech was ALL CHEWED UP. Sound was cutting in and out, poor lighting, pianist was even confused at one point.

At one point Kanye states that this performance is actually more of a dress rehearsal. I figured as much and even debated going to the Saturday show, but there was something about the rawness of an opening night that I wanted to be part of. I'm sure Saturday's show will be way more on point.

I have never been a person who could pinpoint a moment in which divine providence had played some role in my life. That is, until I saw Kanye.

Watching Kanye West perform is a wholly religious experience. Someone you don't know and can barely see is instructing you to complete strange actions which seem nonsensical, like throwing your hands in there or singing lyrics or pointing your middle finger to the sky. Yet, you follow along. You are surrounded by thousands of people who share similar beliefs and interests as you. Everything is ridiculous expensive and you must pay your way in.

Kanye comes out pretty much an hour late, just because he can. When he finally emerges, it is on a platform suspended in the air. The platform rocks to and fro during the concert, bouncing right above the general admissions mosh pit. It is those in the mosh pit who are the most blessed. They seem positively energized by Kanye, dancing and thrashing for two hours straight.

When Kanye finishes his act, he performs "Ultralight Beam". Towards the end of the show, his platform lowers and he steps down onto the ground, showing us that the man we had seemingly worshiped with our screams and our expressions of adulation walks on the same ground we do. And maybe it was the weed smoke, or maybe the sheer excitement, but as I was swaying to the music, I felt a connection to a higher power, something greater than myself. It was a moment of absolute perfection where I didn't feel alone and hopeless in the world.

Whether his messianic stature is bona fide or self-professed, one thing’s still for certain: an evening with Kanye West will blow your freaking mind.

Love him or loathe him, there are number of things we say about ‘Ye for certain. The guy boasts a repertoire of hits hotter than Seth Rogen’s motorcycle seat. This is a guy with the talent to dethrone his mentor, with the vision to produce the totally unexpected, and with the ego to say and do exactly what he wants. All in all, those ingredients synthesise to produce the greatest live music experience on offer in the modern age. Hands down.

However it’s what we can’t say for certain about West that polarises crowds the world over. The rants, the fights, the Jesus lookalikes; to some extent, it’s no great surprise that the rapper has found himself at loggerheads with audiences on multiple occasions.

But if that’s the price we have to pay to accept this visionary into our lives, then show me where to sign. When Kanye delivers, he arrives first class. “One of the greatest hip-hop sets of all time”, so said the Hollywood Reporter of Coachella 2011. “I am so credible and so influential and so relevant that I will change things”, so said Kanye of himself. Hear, hear, Mr. West.

The sounds of hydraulic machinery filled Oracle Arena, as the stench of dirt weed mingled with the faux fog that had been pumping into the air over the past two hours. The opening samples of “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1” were slowed down and turned elastic, thus leaving alien chemtrails of sound in the wake of the shadowy figure tethered to the hovering spacecraft. With heads upturned in anticipation of first contact, the crowd was lost in darkness. Chants of “Kan-ye! Kan-ye!” filled every empty space, until the object of their affection shone his light down on the chosen few.

The party-sized hoverboard had traversed the entire length of the arena (from a height of about 10 feet above the tallest head), before blasting spotlights on those below; instantly creating the largest circle pit a hip-hop tour has ever seen.

“Just wanna feel liberated, I, I, I…”

Kanye West had arrived in Oakland, and while many outside the venue failed to understand the appeal, those who had been waiting patiently (well past start time) were losing their collective mind.

Kanye was a lot more humble than I expected. I've always loved a lot of the lyrics of his songs as they speak about real stuff that's going on, like the media covering up on what's actually important and people higher up trying to make everyone conform. His concert was better than I thought it would be. He was entertaining, interactive with the crowd, tried to get the people on the floor to start a mosh pit (haha) and he talked about some shit in the media against him that wasn't true. The massive screen thing he had happening put an interesting twist to seeing Kanye as it was done in like negative colouring and you could only half see him a lot of the time, which was a bit frustrating but also added to the drama of him. I LOVED the freaky masks he wore half the time, very Kanye- all that bling. He played a good mix of his music from a bunch of new stuff right back to the older stuff. Almost the whole seated crowd were standing the whole time (something I've NEVER seen at a concert) I have a newfound respect for Kanye West and am really happy I finally got to see him. I'd definitely go back

it was fucking horrible as shit like really kanye?

i, as well as everyone else who came to see your show in sacramento, were so hyped. it was literally going to be the highlight of my thanksgiving break. i bought your tickets for $70 as well as a shirt for $20, only for you to show up AN HOUR AND A HALF LATE, perform three songs that you didn't even finish, and to listen to your inaccurate rant about politics. honestly man, i respected you so much as an artist; you were and still are a musical genius and i will forever support your music career, but i lost all respect for you as a person yesterday. you disrespected your fans last night, who have been nothing but loyal to you throughout your career. that was a real shitty move, and to be honest with you man, i feel sorry for you. the money so up in your mind that you don't know who you are anymore.

we miss the old kanye

The Saint Pablo Tour was by far the dopest energy in one place that I have felt at a venue the size of Verizon Center. The stage was suspended in air and the attendees with floor seats were actually a mosh pit! They stood the entire time fueling the energy as he floated above their heads and out stretched arms. Everyone in the building stood the entire concert. Everyone. Though the lights were dim and the big screen had an hallucination type effect, the lyrics and his movement came thru with Kanye precision. I had the time of my life at this concert. The cherry on the top was that I was invited as a surprise from my love. The hands down best surprise I've ever received!! I love the old Kanye. I love the new Kanye. I love Kanye. Period.

A Complete Timeline of Kanye West and Travis Scott’s History Amid Circus Maximus Spectacle

Kanye West and Travis Scott broke the roof of hype after sharing the stage during the latter’s Circus Maximus Tour. After a show of solidarity during the concert’s start in August 2023, the ‘Flashing Lights’ singer marked his presence during the tour’s concluding legs with a surprise appearance ahead of his own ‘Vultures’ roll-out. The roar of fans throughout the arena when Ye walked down amid a cascade of spotlights came across as arguably one of the best spectacles in pop history in recent times.

As discussions on the surprise appearance continue to vow fans as well as fuel speculation for an upcoming even grander display of comeback, here is a timeline history between the two rappers stretching well back over a decade.

1. Early roots: How did Travis Scott meet Kanye West?

Travis Scott started his career as an aspiring music artist who dropped out of college to pursue his dreams in New York and Los Angeles. After the turn of the 2010s, the rapper made sufficient waves and eked out a name for himself in the underground scene. Around that very time, Kanye West had already sealed his legacy with Grammy wins and several hit records to his name. Through mutual connections, shows, and talks, the duo met each other and embarked on a creative endeavor.

The ‘Utopia’ singer gained prominence and began to produce beats for the likes of Jay-Z and Big Sean, all under Ye’s watchful eyes. Around 2012-2013, K anye West signed Travis Scott with his GOOD Music label and kick-started an official spark of collaboration. The young rapper contributed to production, music design, and beats for the senior’s ‘Yeezus’ album. Along the lines, Scott also launched his own mix tapes, ‘Owl Pharaoh’ and ‘Days Before Rodeo,’ the latter of which went on to debut at number three on the Billboard 200.

2. The era of mentorship and blossoming collaboration

Travis Scott’s debut album, ‘Rodeo’, featured the lead single, ‘3500’ which originally lay set to debut with Kanye West’s 2016 album, ‘Life of Pablo’. Moreover, after his contributions to ‘Yeezus’, his role within the fandom stood elevated. Following such events, the new working dynamic between the two became prominent as that of an active collaboration. With his career now taking flight, Scott publicly opened up more times than once on West’s role as his mentor and guiding light.

In 2016, Travis Scott toured alongside Kanye West for the Saint Pablo Tour, the last major tour by the ‘Donda’ singer. In their performances on-stage, the duo spoke of a radiant bonhomie with an electric on-screen chemistry highlighted in their joint performances. Furthermore, with the protégé contributing live to verses and beats, and playing an active part in amping up the audience, a healthy relationship of one of the best rap collaborations came forward.

3. Travis Scott becomes a part of the larger Kanye West family

“ He’s like my stepdad. We always had that relationship where we cook up ideas.” Travis Scott formally broke his new relationship with Kanye West in multiple interviews around 2017, when he started dating Kylie Jenner. Then married to Kim Kardashian , Jenner came across as Ye’s sister-in-law. Moreover, with the new couple welcoming their first child, Stormi Webster , in 2018, a new working layer found itself attached to the relationship between the two rappers. Unfortunately, things began to sour up soon after.

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian’s relationship started to face hiccups around the very time that Travis Scott and Kylie Jenner welcomed their baby. Thereafter, with the ‘Praise God’ singer coming under fire for his controversial remarks, his professional career started to take a hit, with the Adidas-Yeezy deal coming out as a prime example. In a show of solidarity, the student sided with the teacher opining that everyone stood entitled to their thoughts. Finally, with Ye’s verses on Scott’s ‘Astroworld’, landing it a major boost, their collaboration stayed alive.

4. A greater comeback in the making

As things began to settle, Kanye West opted to stay in Japan for a long part of 2023 alongside his new wife, Bianca Censori. With fans clamoring for an album or a hint from the rapper, Travis Scott came to the rescue. On August 7 of that year, Ye enthralled fans in a surprise appearance at the latter’s ‘Utopia’ concert in Rome. Taking the stage to perform a few verses alongside the chants of “There is no Travis Scott without Kanye West,” the learners’ love for his mentor stood starkly evident.

At the cusp of his ‘Vultures’ roll-out, Kanye West unrolled the behemoth of all hype when Travis Scott handed the stage over to him on the January 31st show of his Circus Maximus tour for the same album. Performing hits like ‘Runaway’ and ‘All of the Lights’ while dressed in a white hockey mask and his signature black attire, Ye unleashed his aura all over. Welcomed by Scott with a show of lights, the combined hype for the duo stood unmatched at an all-time high. As Ye looks ahead to a broader 2024 comeback, signs hint at a likely full-fledged collaboration with Scott enough.

Kanye West seen through raised arms in the crowd at a concert

Kanye West gives rare live performance in surprise appearance with Travis Scott

Controversial rapper performed two songs in Rome in his first public performance since he made a series of antisemitic comments

Kanye West made a surprise appearance in Rome as he joined fellow US rapper Travis Scott onstage in his first public performance since he caused controversy with a series of antisemitic online posts.

The rapper, who has legally changed his name to Ye, was introduced to the stage by Scott at his Utopia concert at the historic Circus Maximus on Monday night.

His account on X, formerly known as Twitter, was suspended for almost eight months for violating the platform’s policy against inciting violence and was reinstated last week .

“It’s been a long journey before we could get here,” Scott said on Monday. “I can say there’s been only one human being on this motherfucking planet that has ever walked side by side with me through anything and every motherfucking thing.

“There is no Utopia without Kanye West. There is no Travis Scott without Kanye West. There is no Rome without Kanye West. Make some noise for Ye.”

West then took to the stage and the pair performed West’s songs Praise God and Can’t Tell Me Nothing together, in front of the 60,000-strong crowd.

West has been absent from the public eye since October after posting several antisemitic tweets and, two months later, praising Adolf H itler and the Nazis in an interview on Infowars, a show hosted by the rightwing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones. He faced a backlash over his comments which resulted in him being dropped by Adidas, talent agency CAA and the Balenciaga fashion house.

West’s Twitter account was also locked for 24 hours in March 2022, after a string of online attacks he made against his ex-wife Kim Kardashian’s then-boyfriend, Saturday Night Live comedian Pete Davidson.

The performance in Rome comes after a previously planned performance by Scott at the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt. According to Live Nation Middle East, the show was cancelled due to the “complex production issues” of setting up a show in the desert.

Last week Scott secured his first No. 1 album with Utopia as it claimed the biggest streaming week for a full-length album this year so far. His fourth album, Utopia features global superstars including Beyonce, the Weeknd, Bad Bunny and SZA.

This comes after a Texas grand jury decided not to indict the US rapper in a criminal investigation into a massive crowd surge that killed 10 people at his 2021 Astroworld music festival in Houston.

90s rock legends announce new farewell tour dates after frontman’s ‘serious’ injury

A globally renowned rock group who dominated the charts in the 1990s have announced fresh dates for their farewell tour, after they were forced to postpone shows .

Aerosmith announced their Peace Out tour would be their last after over 50 years in music in May 2023, with gigs set to start last September.

The band, who have sold over 150 million records worldwide and are the best-selling American hard rock group of all time, have a back catalogue boasting songs including Walk this Way, Love in an Elevator, Dream On and Young Lust.

However, they were then forced to postpone their 2023 dates after their frontman Steven Tyler sustained a ‘serious’ injury – but now they will resume shows this September instead.

The 76-year-old damaged his vocal cords, which led to ‘bleeding’, just days into their world tour.

Aerosmith initially pushed back six gigs as Tyler revealed he was ‘heartbroken’ to have been given ‘strict doctor’s orders not to sing for the next 30 days’.

However, the I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing stars later had to make the decision to suspend all of their show dates after it became apparent Tyler had fractured his larynx.

‘To our fans: Unfortunately, Steven’s vocal injury is more serious than initially thought. His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx which requires ongoing care,’ a statement Aerosmith released at the time on Instagram read.

‘He is receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure his recovery is swift, but given the nature of a fracture, he is being told patience is essential.

‘As a result, all the currently scheduled PEACE OUT shows must be postponed to sometime in 2024, with new dates to be announced as soon as we know more.’

Tyler added in a separate message: ‘I am heartbroken to not be out there with Aerosmith, my brothers and the incredible Black Crowes, rocking with the best fans in the world. I promise we will be back as soon as we can!’

Now, those dates have been confirmed as kicking off again on September 20 in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and travelling extensively throughout the United Sates and Canada until February 26, when they play Buffalo, New York.

‘We’re thrilled to announce new dates for our 2024 PEACE OUT Tour with special guests @theblackcrowes!’, Aerosmith announced on X, adding: ‘All previously purchased tickets will be honoured for the rescheduled shows – you’ll receive more info via email.

Aerosmith was formed in late 1970 and comprises of Tyler, lead guitarist Joe Perry, bass player Tom Hamilton, drummer Joey Kramer and guitar player Brad Whitford.

Kramer, however, is not participating in the world tour with the band announcing he is ‘focus[ing] his full attention on his family and health’.

Touring member Buck Johnson will be participating as well.

In February, a lawsuit filed against singer Tyler by a woman accusing him of sexually assaulting her twice in one day when she was 17 was dismissed.

US District Judge Lewis Kaplan stated that former child model Jeanne Bellino had waited too long to sue the 75-year-old rock star, as reported by Reuters.

Steven Tyler

The judge said Bellino did not qualify for a two-year window to pursue claims that would otherwise extend beyond statutes of limitations, because she did not allege that Tyler’s conduct posed a ‘serious risk of physical injury’.

Rocker Tyler had previously ‘vehemently’ denied her allegations.

Tyler has also defended against a lawsuit in Los Angeles, where another woman, Julia Misley, claimed he sexually assaulted her in 1973 when she was 16 and he was 25.

He has denied the claims and insisted that Julia Misley, formerly known as Julia Holcomb, consented to their relationship.

Kanye West Allegedly Told Donda Academy Students They 'Could Be Locked in Cages,' According to New Lawsuit

Former employee Trevor Phillips filed a complaint against the rapper, accusing him of discrimination and harassment

kanye tour 2023

Taylor Hill/FilmMagic

A former employee of Kanye West ’s has filed a complaint against the controversial rapper, claiming he suffered “severe discrimination, harassment” and more while working for the star’s Yeezy brand and at his Donda Academy school .

Trevor Phillips filed suit against West, 46, on Tuesday in Los Angeles with a complaint that claimed the “Gold Digger” rapper once told students at Donda Academy that he was going to put a jail at the school where they could be locked in cages. He also claimed West often spewed hateful, antisemitic and anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric within earshot of students.

“By filing this lawsuit, we hope our injured clients’ rights are vindicated, and that the famous artist Mr. West understands that his messages — which we alleged preach discrimination, antisemitism and Hitler-love — have no place in the world,” Phillips’ attorney Carney R. Shegerian said in a statement.

A representative for West — who in 2021 legally changed his name to Ye — did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Phillips said in the complaint, which was obtained by PEOPLE, that he considered West an “inspiration” when the star hired him to work at his Yeezy clothing brand in November 2022.

Before long, he was also doing work for Donda Academy, where his daughter and younger brother attended school (West founded the K-12 Christian private school in 2022). Phillips alleges that West would often spout harmful rhetoric at the school, and praised Adolf Hitler while engaging Holocaust denial and threats to the LGBTQ+ community.

“In front of the schoolchildren, Kanye continued his dangerous rhetoric. Kanye started to openly discuss how he only likes to date white women,” the complaint reads. "Then addressing the two school children, Kanye told them that he wanted them to shave their heads and that he intended to put a jail at the school — and that they could be locked in cages. The staff quickly distracted the children, and escorted them out of the room.”

Phillips claims West would often “scream [at] and berate” his Black employees in ways he did not his white employees, and that he told his staffers he would fire anyone who was “fat.” The former staffer also described an encounter with West in which the star simulated masturbation during a bizarre dinner meeting at Nobu in Malibu.

Elsewhere in the complaint, Phillips says West bragged about spending $2 million of the school’s budget on a trip to Paris, and that he was forced to do dangerous electrical wire work in the rain.

Tensions between Phillips and West culminated in May 2023, when West allegedly berated Phillips in front of 100 people amid an “immature temper tantrum.”

Dave Kotinsky/Getty

“His dream of working for someone he once admired as a great artist was like his spirit — crushed,” the complaint says. “While Kanye considered himself a god or king, in reality he was an ill-tempered tyrant and despot, who sought to mentally obliterate and control those around him.”

Phillips — who worked his last day at Donda Academy in August 2023 — says his time working for West led to psychological and emotional distress, humiliation and mental and physical pain and anguish. He is seeking damages in excess of $35,000.

West was previously sued in April 2023 by two women who were fired as teachers at Donda Academy. They claimed the school allegedly violated multiple Department of Education requirements and did not follow state regulations.

West has been under fire in recent years for making antisemitic comments; in October 2022, he forfeited his status as a billionaire after losing deals with Adidas, Balenciaga and Gap.

The suit comes weeks after West and Ty Dolla $ign were sued by the estate of Donna Summer over an unauthorized interpolation of her song “I Feel Love” on their collaborative ¥$ project Vultures 1.

Kanye West accuser has daughter in Donda Academy’s choir despite claiming rapper threatened to ‘lock kids in cages’

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

Former Yeezy employee Trevor Phillips, who accused Kanye West of child abuse in a new lawsuit , still allows his daughter to participate in Donda Academy’s choir, Page Six has exclusively learned.

Multiple sources confirmed to Page Six that Makayla Myles-Phillips is part of the Donda Choir and that her father has allegedly made “no attempts” to remove her from the music program.

We’re told the young girl has been a member of the choir since January, and has really thrived both as a singer and in her own personal growth.

Kanye West.

“She’s an elite singer. She just did a performance and she actually had a solo,” a source, who has worked with the choir, tells Page Six exclusively of Makayla.

“Her mom never heard her sing by herself before her solo. The program just boosted her confidence.”

A second source adds of the young girl, “She is an amazing singer and rarely misses a rehearsal.”

Page Six has reviewed copies of attendance sheets that show she has been present the past few months.

Kids performing with Donda Choir.

Both insiders claim that Trevor has never been seen at any of his daughter’s performances or practices.

However, the former Yeezy staffer — who said in his suit that he was hired to oversee projects related to growing cotton for the company’s clothing lines — alleged in his complaint that he witnessed horrifying behavior from West, 46, during his tenure with the billionaire rapper.

Trevor accused West of going on antisemitic rants , flaunting pictures of a naked woman , simulating masturbation in front of him and allegedly treating black workers differently than their white counterparts.

However, some of the most scathing allegations Trevor made were pertaining to children.

Kanye West.

He claimed in the complaint, obtained by Page Six, that West once “vulgarly insulted and disparaged” Makayla, allegedly telling him “f–k your daughter” during a dispute.

Trevor also alleged West once told two children that he “wanted to shave their heads,” intended to “put a jail at the school” and threatened to “lock them in cages.”

The staffer who has worked with the Donda Academy’s choir tells Page Six exclusively that they find Trevor’s allegations to be “just outrageous,” claiming what they’ve witnessed is completely different.

“It bothers me, honestly, because Ye is a generous guy,” the source says. “One thing that everyone knows is that the kids, the school and everything in regards to Donda is [West’s] life, his source of light.”

Kanye West.

In response to the claims about West wanting to shave students’ hair, the insider points out, “The kids’ hair is part of their personality, part of their character.

“Everyone in the program has different types of hair. Some have braids, some have dread hair, and that’s something that was just outrageous to say.”

The worker also claims that West would never threaten to lock a child in a cage because the “Runaway” rapper wants “the kids to be free, which is obviously the total opposite.”

“We’re using his mom’s legacy . It’s Ms. Donda, and so he wanted nothing but a family aspect. … They look at each other as sisters, brothers and you really get that feel even when they walk into the room. They eat together. Everything they have to just do together.”

The source concludes, “It’s just a big family aspect, and I think that’s what [Ye] wanted — especially under his mom’s name.”

Our insiders also claim that Makayla’s mom has a very different viewpoint than Trevor and she has been very supportive of her daughter’s endeavors at the Donda Choir.

“She is such a different girl when she lives with her dad,” the choir staffer claims.

Kanye West smiling.

“When she transferred over to her mom, she was just a beam of light. She was such a lighter girl, happy and smiley.”

Per our source, students told them that Makayla had confided in them about not liking spending time with her dad and that she allegedly did not like her last name “Phillips,” either.

“I’ve gotten that from the other little girls that are around her and that care about her,” the source claims.

We’re told Makayla and her mother’s side of the family found out about Trevor’s lawsuit at the same time as everyone else earlier this month.

Kanye West.

A source tells us that Makayla and her sister from her mother’s side, who also participates in the choir, were upset and “embarrassed,” noting that their mom wasn’t sure how to move forward.

We’re told Makayla did not show up for rehearsal last Saturday, which a source says is “kind of unfortunate,” adding, “I’m not sure [if she’s coming back].”

Page Six has reached out to Trevor’s reps for a response to our insiders’ accounts but did not immediately hear back.

The former Yeezy worker is not the only ex-staffer to have accused West of misconduct via lawsuits .

Kanye West.

In April 2023, former Donda Academy teachers Cecilia Hailey and Chekarey Byers claimed they were the only black women hired to work at the school and had  experienced discrimination .

Timanii Meeks then joined the lawsuit that June, suing for wrongful termination, and Isaiah Meadows  filed his lawsuit  against Donda Academy in July 2023 for breach of contract and other claims.

Donda Academy.

Donda Academy has gone through many transformations since it first opened its doors in 2022.

The Christian school for pre-kindergarteners through 12th-graders very briefly closed  amid the fallout from West’s  antisemitic comments in October 2022, but then reopened within hours .

However, we’re told the only programs still active at the Donda Academy are its music curriculum. West’s rep declined Page Six’s request for comment and they have not addressed the original suit.

“ Saturday Night Live Weekend Update” hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che minced no words on Saturday night while commenting on Ye (aka Kanye West ) and Diddy ’s respective recent headlines.

Referring to a recently filed lawsuit by former Ye employee Trevor Phillips — who accused the musician of anti-Black racism, homophobic and antisemitic outbursts in a  lawsuit filed on Tuesday — Che noted, “In a lawsuit against Ye, a former employee claims that Ye compared himself to Hitler, minus the gas chambers.”

Popular on Variety

“This week, ‘Live with Kelly & Mark’ re-ran an episode from 2023 in which host Kelly Ripa begged to go on Diddy’s yacht,” Jost said, alluding to how that desire hadn’t aged well. Sean “Diddy” Combs is currently being investigated for alleged sexual misconduct and was recently named in a sexual assault lawsuit against his son, Christian Combs. Christian has been accused of sexual misconduct on a yacht that Diddy chartered.

Jost then poked fun at his co-anchor. “Even crazier, ‘SNL’ is airing an episode right now with a guy who was on Diddy’s yacht last week!” A picture of Michael Che photoshopped onto a yacht with a glass of champagne in hand appeared on the screen. The camera then showed Che shaking his head “no” with a smirk.

Kristen Wiig hosted the April 6 episode, with musical guest Raye performing. It was the former SNL cast member’s fifth time as a host, and she joined the “Five-Timer’s Club.” Other “Five-Timer’s Club” members appeared in the episode , including Paul Rudd, Jon Hamm, and Martin Short.

The Kendrick Lamar, Drake, J. Cole — and A$AP Rocky! — beef, explained

An ongoing faceoff between four hip-hop heavyweights plays out on records, on stage and online.

kanye tour 2023

Competition is a firm pillar of hip-hop. Years before Tupac and Biggie or Jay-Z and Nas ever traded lyrical blows on iconic diss tracks, DJs squared off at legendary block parties. Break dancers battled out in competitive cyphers. MCs exchanged fiery bars in battle raps onstage. Those traditions laid the cornerstone for a genre that continues to evolve, propelling hip-hop into a global phenomenon and elevating rap artistry.

So last month, when beef started to broil between the industry’s purported “big three” — Kendrick Lamar, Drake and J. Cole — after Lamar took direct aim at Drake and Cole in a guest verse on “Like That,” a track on the new Future and Metro Boomin album, “We Don’t Trust You,” fans eagerly awaited a rap battle for the ages.

The Style section

A potential faceoff between Lamar, Drake and Cole could be a culmination for three rap heavyweights who have dominated their genre — generating numerous accolades, critical acclaim and fierce debates among fans engaging in endless discussion of the genre’s greatest artists.

“The past couple of weeks have been the most exciting time in hip-hop we’ve had in a long time,” said Sowmya Krishnamurthy, a music journalist and author . “It’s the first time that we’ve seen three artists at the top of their game, really going after the crown.”

But what followed Lamar’s verses hasn’t quite been a classic hip-hop beef, with J. Cole retracting a response and Drake limiting himself to veiled allusions so far. And now Rihanna’s partner, A$AP Rocky, has taken his own shots at Drake. Here’s how to make sense of it all.

How did the feud start?

Lamar’s verse on “Like That” references Drake and Cole’s 2023 song “First Person Shooter,” in which Cole dubbed the three rappers the industry’s greatest. “We the big three like we started a league, but right now, I feel like Muhammad Ali,” Cole rapped.

Lamar profanely dismissed that notion, concluding, “It’s just big me.”

But he saved most of his venom for Drake, seemingly comparing himself to Prince and Drake to Michael Jackson, noting that “Prince outlived Mike Jack” and referencing Drake’s latest album “For All the Dogs” with the lines: “’fore all your dogs gettin’ buried/ That’s a K with all these nines, he gon’ see ‘Pet Sematary.’”

Lamar was drawing a line in the sand, said Rob Markman, a music journalist and vice president of content strategy at Genius, a service that annotates song lyrics. “Kendrick is the aggressor here. [His] stance, so it seems, is you can’t just say you’re the greatest. You’re going to have to prove that. We’re not in a world where you can just say anything. This is hip-hop.”

How did J. Cole respond?

On April 5, Cole dropped the surprise album “Might Delete Later,” including the song “7 Minute Drill,” in which the North Carolina native implies that Lamar only averages “one good rap verse” every 30 months, and that he disses other artists in his music for attention. Cole also criticized Lamar’s acclaimed albums “To Pimp a Butterfly” and “Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers,” calling the first boring and overrated and the second “tragic.”

Many listeners viewed that angle as a major misfire.

“The problem with that [verse] is Kendrick has a stellar discography,” said Markman. “The whole thing about battle rap: … It doesn’t all have to be true. But when you’re most successful is when you take a bit of the truth and twist it in your favor, and you get the public on your side. I think that’s what Cole tried to do here,” Markman said. “I think it was a swing and a miss.”

Cole seemed to agree. While onstage at his Dreamville Festival in Raleigh, N.C., on Sunday, the rapper walked back what he said on the track, explaining that the response he saw to the song didn’t “sit right with my spirit,” disrupting his sleep and peace of mind.

“That was the lamest, goofiest s---,” Cole said. He also told fans that he would update the song or remove it from streaming services (as of this writing, it remains available).

“J. Cole famously said he let Nas down in a song many years ago, and with this move he’s let hip-hop down.” said Krishnamurthy. “It’s disappointing to see that somebody who, as an athlete himself, understands healthy competition and sportsmanship and also is a true lover of the art form of hip-hop, would come out with a diss record and then 48 hours later, rescind it.”

How did Drake respond?

Drake has yet to release a song in response to Lamar, but many fans speculate that comments he’s made onstage and on social media were directed at the “Compton” rapper. “I got my ... head up high, my back straight, I’m 10 ... toes down,” Drake told the crowd during a stop on his tour in Sunrise, Fla., on March 23. “There’s [nobody] on this Earth that could ever [mess] with me in my life.” (Naturally, he used more profane terms.)

Days later, he shared an Instagram post with the caption: “They rather go to war with me than admit they are their own worst enemy.”

Drake is no stranger to rap feuds, having previously mixed it up with big names like Meek Mill, Pusha T and Ye, the rapper formerly known as Kanye West.

“Drake is battle-tested. Drake is very strategic,” Markman said. “He’s not going to just come out with anything.”

But he’s also been known to play the sidelines, Krishnamurthy said. “There’s quite a few high-profile beefs, most notably Pusha T, that we’re still waiting on that response.”

Rumors are swirling about when we’ll hear from Drake. “I have it on good information that both sides went in the booth and came out,” Joe Budden, the media personality and former rapper, shared on his podcast Wednesday. “And what I’m hearing from both sides is that it’s nuclear.”

What did A$AP Rocky say?

Alliances may be forming on both sides across hip-hop. Lamar’s diss came on a record with Metro Boomin, who has beefed with Drake and Future, a frequent collaborator of Drake’s. And some fans suggested that Rick Ross shaded Drake after he posted a video of himself listening to Lamar’s verse while smoking a cigar.

“It’s almost like Marvel’s ‘Captain America: Civil War,’” said Markman, “where you got superheroes on one side, superheroes on another side, and it’s about to be a clash going on.

Friday another big name joined forces against Drake: A$AP Rocky, who appears on the track “Show of Hands” on Future and Metro Boomin’s second album in three weeks, “We Still Don’t Trust You.”

Drake and Rihanna, with whom Rocky has two children, once dated, and Rocky’s lyrics appear to reference that history (men “in their feelings over women, what, you hurt or somethin’?”) as well as Drake’s son (“I smash before you birthed, son, Flacko hit it first, son.”), whose existence only came to light during Drake’s highly personal 2018 showdown with Pusha T.

What is everyone else saying?

Cole’s apology speech was met on social media with an explosion of jokes, memes and hot takes from fans who felt robbed of a huge matchup. Even brands like Spotify have waded into the feud, posting billboards across New York City that read: “Hip-Hop is a competitive sport.”

Fans say Cole’s retraction moves against that idea. “What happened to hip-hop,” many users lamented on X, formerly Twitter. “I hope J Cole is happy knowing the irreversible damage he did to hip-hop this past weekend….” another user wrote .

Some commenters are still hopeful for a response from Drake.

During a live stream on Monday, DJ Akademiks said his exchange with Drake seemed to confirm that the rapper would not take the same route as Cole. “Please, don’t apologize and do no weird s---,” Akademiks said he messaged to Drake. The rapper allegedly responded: “I can’t believe you would pull up and say some s--- like that to me. You must not know me.”

Other voices across the hip-hop world have weighed in.

Charlamagne tha God, host of the syndicated radio show “The Breakfast Club,” said he respected Cole’s decision to bow out of the feud.

“The rap fan in me understands the disappointment many of you feel in Cole,” he said. “But the man in me, who understands that I’m a spiritual being living a human existence, has nothing but respect for what J. Cole did. So many of us lead with pride and ego nowadays and we let these idiots on social media, who we don’t even know, peer pressure us to say things and do things that we don’t even wanna do.”

Meanwhile, gangster rap mogul Marion “Suge” Knight, who is serving a 28-year prison sentence for manslaughter, slammed Cole on a recent episode of his podcast, “Collect Call.”

“J. Cole, you supposed to say what you mean and mean what you say,” Knight said. “To be the best, you gotta beat the best. This is a contact sport. As we used to say back in the day, if you don’t wanna be a gangsta rapper, go be R&B. West Coast, stand up. It’s a victory.”

Knight’s comments call back to a more vicious era in rap beefs between East Coast and West Coast artists in the mid-’90s. The tension centered on the feud between superstar rappers Christopher Wallace, known as Biggie Smalls, who was signed to Puff Daddy’s New York City label Bad Boy Records, and Tupac Shakur from Knight’s Los Angeles-based label Death Row Records.

Songs like Biggie’s “Who Shot Ya?” and Shakur’s “Hit ’Em Up” are classic diss tracks. But that feud famously ended with the killings of both rappers in drive-by shootings within six months of each other.

These days, beef doesn’t get that far. “As long as it fuels the art, as long as it stays on record, as long as nobody gets hurt in real life, as long as you don’t end up with a Biggie and Pac situation, I think the competition is good for us,” Markman said.

Emilee Moore Opens Up About the Heartbreak That Inspired Coachella Billboard Performance & New…

Trending on billboard.

A man of few words, focusing all his energy on his DJ controller, Biza hyped up the crowd with his fist pumps and jumps. “Let’s go, Coachella!” he would scream here and there.

Most notably during his one-hour set were the vibrant and futuristic visuals and incredible light show that would change with every track and beat and seemingly took over the entire desert.

At 8:13 p.m. — just after performing his Residente-assisted “BZRP Music Sessions #49” and “Mamichula” in collaboration with Trueno and Nicki Nicole — Shakira arrived onstage for a surprise performance. On the screen: “La Loba Se Viene.”

Shakira, looking flawless and graceful as always, performed “La Fuerte,” her second collaborative effort with Biza, part of her latest studio album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran .

“Good night, Coachella! This is amazing,” she told the crowd. “Thank you, Bizarrap for inviting me. Truthfully, it’s amazing being here with this audience, with you, my colleague, my friend.”

Shortly after, Shak and Bizarrap celebrated with their megahit “ Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53 .” The track peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and landed at No. 2 on both the Billboard Global 200 and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. It also ruled the Hot Latin Songs chart, scoring Shakira her 12th leader on the tally.

Biza then continued pumping up the crowd with his bangers, including his collaborations with Peso Pluma, Natanael Cano, Snow Tha Product, and Young Miko, to name a few. “Let’s f—ing go Coachella!” he chanted.

“Thank you all so much for being here with me,” he said toward the end of his set. “It is the first time we are here at Coachella and to be here with my flag, my flag of Argentina, for me is an honor and I am very excited.”
