Trumpeted as “the absolute final shows of their final tour,” the farewell leg kicks off Oct. 29 in Austin, Texas and hits arenas across the U.S. and Canada before the makeup comes off — for good? — with a two-night stand at Kiss’ hometown Madison Square Garden in New York.

“Kiss was born in New York City. On 23rd Street. Half a century ago. It will be a privilege and honor to finish touring at Madison Square Garden, 10 blocks and 50 years from where we first started,” the band said of the final two gigs, Dec. 1 and 2, at the World’s Most Famous Arena.

Kiss performs its final concert. But has the band truly reached the 'End of the Road'?

Kiss band members, from left, Tommy Thayer, Gene Simmons, Eric Singer and Paul Stanley participate in the ceremonial lighting of the Empire State Building on Thursday in New York.

In the 50 years since Kiss first kicked and thrashed its way onto the New York rock scene, the band has given the world sing-and-shout-along hits like "Detroit Rock City," "Crazy Crazy Nights" and "Beth," and live performances replete with blood-spattering, fire-breathing, pyrotechnics and gobs of cartoonish stage makeup.

"Their schtick lifted them up to the absolute top," music writer Joel Selvin , the author of numerous books about rock musicians including Linda Ronstadt, the Grateful Dead and Sly and the Family Stone, told NPR.

On Saturday, the memorable stagecraft that made Kiss one of the biggest selling hard rock bands in the world will come to an end, as its members perform what they are touting as their final show of their aptly titled, four-year-long "End of the Road World Tour" — at Madison Square Garden in New York. The concert will be available to watch live on Pay-Per-View .

"It has nothing to do with personalities in the band or tensions or a difference of opinion or musicality. It's purely practical," said Kiss co-founder, rhythm guitarist and vocalist Paul Stanley in an interview with the music publication Ultimate Classic Rock of the band's reasons for bringing five decades of Kiss to an end. "You can play beat the clock, but ultimately the clock wins."

The city has apparently gone Kiss-crazy in the days leading up to the occasion, with the appearance of Kiss-themed taxis, Metro cards and pizza boxes. On Wednesday, the New York Rangers hosted KISS Game Night , featuring Kiss-related activities and "limited-edition KISS x Rangers merchandise." Band members also made an appearance at an Empire State Building lighting ceremony on Thursday. Staged in honor of Kiss' swan song, Empire State emitted the colored lights associated with the band — silver, red, purple, green and blue.

'We Wanted To Be Larger Than Life': Paul Stanley Of KISS On Almost 50 Years Of Rock

Music Interviews

'we wanted to be larger than life': paul stanley of kiss on almost 50 years of rock.

Despite all the hooplah, this may not in fact be Kiss' goodbye kiss. The band undertook a previous "farewell tour" more than 20 years ago. After a brief hiatus, it started touring again on and off in 2003. Live shows and album releases flowed on from there.

In interviews, band members have spoken about continuing on after Saturday's Madison Square Garden performance in one way or another. Both Stanley and co-frontman Gene Simmons have their own bands and say they aim at the very least to continue making appearances in those formats.

"Nobody ever really says goodbye," said rock critic Selvin, citing comebacks over the years by the likes of Cher, Steve Miller and the Grateful Dead. "It's a show business strategy. You take a bow. But there's always an encore."

Selvin said artists often reappear after retiring because they can make a lot of money owing to fans' pent-up demand. For example, the pop-punk band Blink-182 is earning four times as much on its current reunion tour than it did when it last re-united in 2009, according to Far Out magazine. (The band issued a statement in 2005 saying it was going on "indefinite hiatus," only to reunite four years later.)

"Personal life interferes, you want to disappear into the woodwork for a while and then demand builds and you go back to it," Selvin said. "Steve Miller took his band apart in '99. He was just tired. And he was out for six years. And then in 2005, he put his band back together and suddenly his price was up, and there was more interest in seeing him."

Meanwhile, some musical acts simply never retire. The Rolling Stones, for instance, are embarking on yet another North America tour in 2024. The band just announced additional dates .

Selvin doesn't think we've heard the last of Kiss.

"The rule of the farewell tour is that you have to say goodbye to every hall, and sometimes you have to say goodbye twice," Selvin said. "I do not expect this to be the last time that Kiss performs, any more than 'Fare Thee Well' was the last time The Grateful Dead performed."

Kiss announces final tour dates ever; Gene Simmons says he will 'cry like a 9-year-old'

kiss tour opening band 2023

It really is the end of the road for Kiss .

Most likely. We think. So they say.

But this time we’ll believe Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons when they announced Wednesday on Sirius XM’s “The Howard Stern Show” that the band’s final  concerts will be Dec. 1-2 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

“We’re finishing up where we started,” Stanley told Stern, flanked by his bandmates in full makeup. “When you come to see the show, it’s awesome. … It’s clearly a kick-ass rock ‘n’ roll show. It’s everything Kiss – just amped up and ramped up. We’re giving it everything we have.”

Simmons added that he was sure he would “cry like a 9-year-old girl whose foot is being stepped on” during Kiss’ last moments on stage.

Ed Sheeran goes deep: New album will confront his 'darkest thoughts'

The closing location makes sense for the venerable rockers, who burst out of New York 50 years ago.

Tickets for the final dates of The End of the Road Tour will be available at 10 a.m. March 6 for a Kiss Army presale at kissonline.com/tour . The general sale begins at 10 a.m. March 10 at livenation.com.

The band’s goodbye tour kicked off in January 2019 and had been set to end at Madison Square Garden in July 2021. But COVID-19 postponements resulted in delayed dates that weren’t resumed until August 2021.

This final leg will begin Oct. 29 at the Moody Center in Austin and roll through Canada, Los Angeles, Knoxville, Baltimore and other cities before the career finale.

From Bono to J-Hope: Must-see documentaries in 2023

Despite a few personnel changes on guitar and drums throughout the years – Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer handle the respective duties on this tour – Kiss has always soldiered on.

The pioneering rockers have been lauded as much for their ingenious stage personas – Stanley remains the Starchild and Simmons, with his wicked tongue, the Demon – as their astute business acumen, selling everything from Kiss-branded lunchboxes to caskets during their five-decade career.

And, with more than 100 million albums sold worldwide, an inventory of guitar-crunching hits (“Detroit Rock City,” “Shout It Out Loud” “Calling Dr. Love,” “Lick It Up” and “Rock and Roll All Nite” among their mindlessly fun fist-pumpers) and a place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the Kiss legacy will live on beyond their final bows.

More than four years after KISS hit the road for its farewell tour, the glam metal band has announced there’s finally an end in sight.

The previously announced final tour date was in 2021, but now the band is set to conclude its “End of the Road Tour” at the end of the year at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The final curtain call is scheduled for Dec. 2, 2023 — more than 50 years after the iconic band’s first show.

The tour kicked off in Vancouver on Jan. 31, 2019, and went on a pandemic-induced hiatus pushing shows set for 2020 to 2021. In 2022, the band admitted they weren’t quite ready to say farewell, and announced that they would be adding another 100 shows to their “End of the Road Tour.”

“It’s like painting a painting or writing a book. When somebody says, ‘When is it gonna be finished?’ You’re in the middle of it; you don’t know,” Simmons said in a 2022 interview with YouTube channel Chaoszine. “ ... this is a tour that will not stop until it stops.”

Various KISS-branded activations and events are scheduled to take place over the next few days — including special edition covers of the New York Post.

From Wednesday through Friday, brand ambassadors in authentic KISS costumes and full face makeup will be handing out commemorative wrapped copies of the paper — along with custom cookies — around Times Square, the Empire State Building and MSG, with an exciting, yet-to-be revealed announcement coming on Thursday.

KISS NYC Takeover

The promotion leads up to KISS’ big weekend in NYC, where they’ll perform their final live shows ever — yes, ever , they promise – on Dec. 1 and Dec. 2 at MSG .

RELATED: How much are tickets to see the last KISS concerts ever at MSG?

Choosing the Big Apple as the place to take their final bows makes sense for Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, who formed the rock group there in 1973 with OG members Ace Frehley and Peter Criss. Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer have replaced Frehley and Criss on lead guitar and drums, respectively, for the group’s final tour.

“We’re thrilled to be doing our final shows at MSG since the band originated in New York City over 50 years ago,” Simmons, 74, Stanley, 71, Thayer, 63, and Singer, 65, said in a statement. “We are thankful for our long legacy of fans, the KISS Army, and excited to be celebrating through these activations.”

Even more exciting for KISS’ loyal legion of fans is the fact that they’ll also get a chance to see Stanley’s eldest son, Evan, rock out on stage at MSG.

He will be opening both shows as the frontman for his own band, Amber Wild , featuring Marshall Via on vocals/guitar, Jacob Massanari on bass and Thomas Lowrey on drums.

“Madison Square Garden is the ultimate venue. To play it under any circumstance would be incredible, but this is something else entirely,” Evan, 29, exclusively told us.

“It’s a huge moment in music history and an even bigger one for my family. My dad and I have always bonded over music and this is about as cool as it gets.”

The musician noted that the “last-ever KISS New York shows” will mark the “first-ever New York shows” for his Los Angeles-based band, which is already paving the way for a new generation of rock ’n’ roll.

“I’m so lucky to be able to share that with [my dad],” he added. “We’re all really honored to be a part. It’s an amazing feeling.”

While NYC is going all out for KISS’ farewell run (more on that below), fans across the country can still be a part of all the action from home.

The final show on Saturday will be live streamed via Pay-Per-View at 8 p.m. ET at PPV.com and playing at all Rock & Brews locations (excluding airports and select casinos).

The restaurant – co-founded by Simmons and Stanley – will be hosting special watch parties across America, serving KISS-inspired menu items like the “Demon Chicken Sandwich” and the delightful “It’s Cold Gin Time Again” cocktail.

“We love the fans, and we don’t want to stay on stage too long, but we’re having the time of our lives,” Simmons previously told Page Six when he invited us to the restaurant’s El Segundo, Calif., location last year. “At the end of [it], no more touring.”

For the lucky fans who will be in the Big Apple this week, here’s a complete guide to all the KISS activations happening around town, in collaboration with Bravado, Universal Music Group’s industry-leading merchandise and brand management company.

Gene Simmons (L) and Paul Stanley rock out onstage.

The time has finally come to kiss KISS goodbye.

Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer announced on Howard Stern that there are are just 21 shows and festival dates remaining on their long-running ‘End of the Road’ Tour .

And, in a fitting tribute to their storied six-decade career, the band will play their final two shows in their home New York City at Madison Square Garden on Dec. 1 and Dec. 2 .

“KISS was born in New York City. On 23rd Street,” the band shared on Instagram . “Half a century ago. It will be a privilege and honor to finish touring at Madison Square Garden, 10 blocks and 50 years from where we first started.”

For those that can’t wait to paint their faces and “Rock and Roll All Nite” (and party every day), you can grab tickets as early as today .

Although inventory isn’t available on Ticketmaster until Friday, March 10, fans who want to ensure they have tickets ahead of time can purchase on sites like Vivid Seats before tickets are officially on sale.

Vivid Seats is a secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They have a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and will be delivered before the event.

KISS 2023 tour schedule

A complete calendar including all tour dates, venues and links to buy tickets can be found below.

KISS festival information

It may be the “End of the Road” for the “Detroit Rock City” rockers but they’re not exiting the stage quietly.

On top of the expansive tour, the group will also headline at two major festivals this year.

Here’s the skinny — from fellow headliners to cheapest tickets available — on both festivals below.

(Note: The New York Post confirmed all above prices at the publication time. All prices are subject to fluctuation and include additional fees at checkout .)

Vivid Seats is a verified secondary market ticketing platform, and prices may be higher or lower than face value, depending on demand.

They offer a 100% buyer guarantee that states your transaction will be safe and secure and your tickets will be delivered prior to the event.

KISS set list

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees have defied convention every step of the way on their one-of-a-kind career.

However, now more than 50 years deep into their tenure, they tend to favor order over chaos when it comes to what they play at live shows.

Here’s a sample set list of what you can likely expect at “End of the Road” shows when the band comes to a venue near you.

01.) “Detroit Rock City” 02.) “Shout It Out Loud” 03.) “War Machine” 04.) “Heaven’s on Fire” 05.) “I Love It Loud”

06.) “Cold Gin”

07.) “Guitar Solo” 08.) “Lick It Up”

09.) “Calling Dr. Love” 10.) “Psycho Circus” 11.) “Drum Solo” 12.) “100,000 Years”

13.) “Bass Solo”

14.) “God of Thunder” 15.) “Love Gun” 16.) “I Was Made for Lovin’ You”

17.) “Black Diamond” Encore:

18.) “Beth” 19.) “Do You Love Me” 20.) “Rock and Roll All Nite”

Set list comes courtesy of Set List FM . Their site has a comprehensive history dating back to 1973 documenting what the group has played at live shows over the years.

KISS band members

While legendary KISS alum Ace Frehley and Peter Criss most likely won’t play with the group on this run of shows, here’s who you can expect to see under the famous black and white makeup when you attend the KISS show of your choosing:

Gene Simmons lead and backing vocals, bass guitar (1973–present) Paul Stanley lead and backing vocals, rhythm and lead guitar (1973–present) Eric Singer drums, backing and lead vocals (1991–1996, 2001−2002, 2004–present) Tommy Thayer lead guitar, backing and lead vocals (2002–present)

You can see the band’s somewhat emotional interview with Stern from March 1, 2023 below.

GENE SIMMONS BAND Performs KISS, LED ZEPPELIN And MOTÖRHEAD Classics At Brazil's SUMMER BREEZE

Gene Simmons and his solo band played their second concert of 2024 last night (Friday, April 26) at the Summer Breeze festival at Memorial Da América Latina in São Paulo, Brazil.

In addition to Simmons , the GENE SIMMONS BAND members include guitarists Brent Woods (WILDSIDE, SEBASTIAN BACH, VINCE NEIL) and Zach Throne (COREY TAYLOR) alongside drummer Brian Tichy (LYNCH MOB, THE DEAD DAISIES, WHITESNAKE, BILLY IDOL, FOREIGNER, PRIDE & GLORY, SLASH'S SNAKEPIT).

The GENE SIMMONS BAND played a number of KISS classics alongside covers of MOTÖRHEAD 's "Ace Of Spades" and LED ZEPPELIN 's "Communication Breakdown" .

According to Setlist.fm, the setlist was as follows:

01. Deuce (KISS song) 02. Shout It Out Loud (KISS song) 03. War Machine (KISS song) 04. Detroit Rock City (KISS song) 05. Cold Gin (KISS song) 06. Calling Dr. Love (KISS song) 07. I Love It Loud (KISS song) 08. Parasite (KISS song) 09. Communication Breakdown (LED ZEPPELIN cover) 10. Lick It Up (KISS song) 11. Are You Ready (Gene Simmons song) 12. Ace Of Spades (MOTÖRHEAD cover) 13. Love Gun (KISS song) 14. 100,000 Years (KISS song) 15. Let Me Go, Rock 'N' Roll (KISS song) 16. I Was Made For Lovin' You (KISS song) 17. Rock And Roll All Nite (KISS song)

Three days earlier, the GENE SIMMONS BAND performed at the grand opening of the Rock & Brews restaurant at the Ilani dining and entertainment destination in Ridgefield, Washington. It marked the KISS bassist/vocalist's first live appearance since the legendary rock act concluded its "End Of The Road" farewell tour at New York's Madison Square Garden in December.

Prior to the Ridgefield appearance, Simmons told ABC Audio about the show: "There are no rules, which is my favorite thing in life. Anything is bound to happen. I may jump off the stage and get into the audience. We may pull some folks out of the audience. You wanna sing 'I Was Made For Lovin' You' ? Here's the mic. Good luck."

Regarding the setlist for the concert, he said: "We get a chance to play songs KISS has never played and some songs have never been recorded. So it's a very exciting event."

GENE SIMMONS BAND will next launch a European tour on July 27 in Kuopio, Finland.

Back in 2017 and 2018, the GENE SIMMONS BAND played a number of shows with a lineup that consisted of Simmons alongside guitarist/bassist Jeremy Asbrock , guitarist Ryan Cook , guitarist Phil Shouse and drummer Brent Fitz .

Six years ago, Simmons stated about his solo shows: "Doing these smaller concert halls, which hold a thousand to three thousand people, means they get filled up by real diehard fans. They don't want to hear the 'same old, same old.' They want to hear nuggets, as they say. It's a hoot for me because I've never really had a chance to do this stuff live. It's been a lot of fun." Gene told the Chicago Sun-Times : "By the end, I get the chance to bring as many people from the audience as we can fit on the stage to sing with me."

Regarding how the idea for a solo tour came about, Simmons told Australia's Advertiser in a 2018 interview: "The GENE SIMMONS BAND was not a plan or anything. About a year ago, a corporate event asked me to be keynote speaker … then they said, 'Won't you get up and sing a few tunes?' I explained that you can't just do that, you've got to have a band and rehearse and all that. They said, 'Well, we'll pay you X dollars more,' and I said, 'I like you!' "So I put together a band from Nashville — these guys back up Kid Rock and lots of other people — and without a single rehearsal, I just told them which songs I wanted to do and they learned them. It just sounded natural — there is such a thing called chemistry. They don't teach that anywhere — I mean, they do teach 'chemistry' but not the kind I'm talking about. It felt right and as soon as the videos went on YouTube and such, people were calling. This little GENE SIMMONS BAND never tried to be KISS … It was just a little bit of fun and stuff. Now all of a sudden, we're headlining festivals in the Czech Republic, Canada, Germany… It's crazy."

KISS played the final concert of its "End Of The Road" farewell tour on December 2, 2023 at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Regarding why now was the right time for KISS to call it quits, Simmons told USA Today : "The touring band that is KISS with the makeup and the dragon boots and fire-breathing, that has to stop and that has to do with Mother Nature and Father Time. If we were a blues band or I was blessed to be Keith Richards in THE ROLLING STONES , I'd show up in my comfy sneakers and T-shirt and stand still and play. But we're different bands. Physically, we are the hardest-working band on the stage. We idolize [ Mick ] Jagger and Bono and the great showmen, but if you put those guys in my outfit, they would pass out in half an hour. It's 40 pounds of armor and studs and seven-inch dragon boots that are about the weight of a female bowling ball. So you've got 20 pounds on your feet and then you've got to spit fire, fly through the air and the entire band is doing that for two-plus hours. If you have any love for the fans, get off the stage before it's too late. How many boxers have stayed too long in the ring? We're doing the right thing."
