What a way to see London! The Duck Tour leaves from Chicheley Street behind the London Eye. The Ducks are refurbished original WWII amphibious vehicles, made by the American military to transport troops for the D-Day landings in 1942. We were surprised that it held up so well- especially when we entered the water with a splash! The tour was much better than a standard bus tour although we could have spent more time on the water and less time in traffic. Even if you have seen the sights before, this is an experience you cannot miss!

Better than any other tour I took. Fun, informative and funny. Our guide was a treat and the boat itself was full of history. I would suggest this over any other tour including double-decker etc.

Photo of Akira C.

At first I thought it would be a tourist trap and I did have my reservations about this tour. However once the tour started I was pleasantly surprised. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining with a good balance of history, trivia facts and jokes. But the real fun begins when the bus get into the water. Very enjoyable and will recommend for both tourists visiting and even locals.

Recently on a trip to London I had the pleasure of going on a London Duck Tour. The concept is very simple, an original World War II amphibious vehicle that was used at the D-Day landing being used give both a tour on land and in the water. I for one think is different and therefore a great idea. The guide I had on my tour was fairly young but was so knowledgable that I was astounded at some of the historic facts she came out with and she also had a wonderful way of keeping it entertaining with little jokes etc along the way. For me it was one of the best tours I have ever been on..apart from the second bit, the water, I felt this lacked substance, that is quantity and quality of information. The ride is also not too smooth and I will admit that was partly to do with the weather on the day. That all said, if you are looking for a tour with a difference then this is for you or if not then its worth trying just for the quality of the land tour.

I had a wonderful time with the qype team on this yesterday. It was a fantastic experience and i learnt some new information about london. I would highly recommend this tour

I went on a Duck Tour with two of my friends and found it a very enjoyable experience. We had been somewhat concerned about previous bad reviews, but in our experience it was excellent, and money well spent. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and gave an excellent and very interesting commentary. We had lived all our lives in and around London but still learnt things that we had not previously known. Altogether it was a most memorable outing, and I would certainly like to do it again.

Photo of Qype User (crumpe…)

Been on one of these in Liverpool, and enjoyed it equally as much while in London. The tour is very informative, as well as exciting. It takes you around Big Ben, Parliament, and Traf. Square before taking a dive into the Thames! For the 15£ price tag, you get a lot out of it, and the tour guides are also really helpful and amusing!

Photo of Qype User (jeapea…)

This is a great tour and something different for all the family to enjoy. The commentary is fun and informative and a good part was all the attention we attracted as we did the road tour. The duck then enters the Thames and goes down to just about the London Eye before retuning to land. This was the best part and amazing that these D day landing vehicles still survive and are useable. A great our for just over an hour but not cheap!

Photo of Qype User (teanby…)

The London Duck Tour is a must for anyone wanting to see a different side to London. Not many tour buses attract so much attention and have to change drivers at the half way point for a sailor to take over ! These converted D Day landing vehicles are Spartan inside but the novelty of driving into the river Thames is brilliant fun and so unique. You sail along beside the House of Parliament and can watch them having lunch, overtake a pleasure boat then head for the shore and hope it will drive out of the water and up a steep slope to dry land. Highly recommended !

Photo of Qype User (szesz…)

I enjoyed the duck tours so much. Never had I thought I would enjoy such a tourist activity. I was invited by a friend to go together. Although this may not for everyone, unless you have an open minded about what great activities really mean.

London Duck Tours Review

amomentwithfranca · 5 June 2017 · 18 Comments

I love London. It is a beautiful city and I have fallen in love with it since the moment I first landed in this country. I have done many sightseeing tours of London  both with my family and on my own. I have always enjoyed it. There are many ways to view London: it can be by car, bus or by boat along the Thames River. This time, I was kindly offered the opportunity to review a different tour. This was with London Duck Tours which I was very intrigued about. We were all very excited about it and we went all prepared and wrapped up with our Regatta outfits .

london duck tours reviews

London Duck Tours use a special type of bus (the ‘ducks’) which drive along London Bridge , through  London’s streets but then also go into the river, and so combines two of the most popular sightseeing tours. I am not sure if you have seen these vehicles before but they are very distinguishable because of their yellow colour. I have seen the London Duck Tour buses several times around London and have always been curious about them.

london duck tours reviews

We made a short video about our London Duck Tours experience. I hope that you like it:

This tour is far more exciting than an ordinary sightseeing tour. The Ducks are six-wheel-drive amphibious vehicles originally used in the Second World War. It is reassuring to know that these vehicles have all been rebuilt according to stringent safety regulations to create the vehicles for this sightseeing tour.

london duck tours reviews

The tour lasts for about 75 minutes and takes in some of the most famous sights in London. There are different types of tours but we were invited to do the Classic Sightseeing Tour. The tour starts at Belvedere Road, Waterloo, not far from the London Eye.

london duck tours reviews

It begins by going over Westminster Bridge and around Parliament, Big Ben, Trafalgar Square and Westminster Abbey. Then we drove down Whitehall passing Downing Street, where the Prime Minister lives at number 10.  We then saw the Horse Guards, Trafalgar Square, a tribute to Britain’s greatest sailor, Lord Admiral Nelson.

london duck tours reviews

We also passed by St James’s, with its gentleman’s clubs, historic shops and the hotel designed like a little piece of Versailles in London, The Ritz. Then we saw Buckingham Palace, then the artistic hub that is Tate Britain and before we went into the water we passed by the mysterious and infamous MI5 & MI6 that reminded us a little bit of James Bond! 😉

london duck tours reviews

Before we got into the water, we waited a little bit for a change of driver. The driver was swapped for a captain that was in charge of driving the duck whilst being used a boat. The moment we got into the water was so much fun. It is exciting to see how the duck is able to go from the road to the water. It really makes the difference for this tour. We had a great guide who told us a lot of interesting facts and stories and she made us laugh a lot too.

london duck tours reviews

Once on the river, we went up to Westminster Bridge and the Houses of Parliament, giving us a completely different view of these sights. We returned to the small beach error adjacent to the MI6 building where we had first entered the river. We were very close to the water which was very exciting! As soon as we were back on land and on the road we headed back towards the London Eye which is where our tour ended.

london duck tours reviews

This tour is great! It is a lot of fun for everyone, especially if you are with children. My girls really enjoyed it, particularly when we went into the water. It is a unique tour and nothing like the more typical road or river tours we have done in the past.

One of the highlights of the tour is seeing people waving at us when we were passing by. This makes the tour even more fun. You can get tickets for a family of 4 for £92. If you would like to find out more about this tour you can check their website HERE

Have you heard of London Duck Tours? Have you done this tour? Have you done a similar tour?

*Disclosure: We were given tickets for this tour in exchange for this review. However, all opinions and thoughts are my own.

Thanks for stopping by,

Love you all ❤️

Looks like lots of fun. I have watched the ducks gling round London and Liverpool, and I really like the look of the moment when it plunges into the water! However much you know a place, I find that there is always something new to see or learn about it. #KCACOLS

I haven’t done the tour yet, but it’s definitely something we’ve been wanting to do for a long long time! A few months ago we were on the Southbank and we nearly went… We need to plan it properly! #KCACOLS

We saw these when we visited London recently and the kids thought they looked amazing. We had the bus tour booked though so said we would return and do them again another day. #KCACOLS

I went on the duck tours a few years back and thoroughly enjoyed it! Even though I’ve lived in London for a very long time, I still managed to learn a few things from it! I’m glad you had a great day out with your family as well. #KCACOLS

London Duck Tours - All You Need to Know BEFORE You Go - Visiting Tips (2024)

Classic Sightseeing Tour

At the very heart of the London Duck Tours experience is our Classic Sightseeing Tour – the original tour that started it all off!  Let the original London Duck tour take you around the beating heart of London – where royalty mixes with parliament and pageantry!  We cover the whole kit and caboodle in this Classic Sightseeing Tour, so take a pew, sit back and enjoy – let us do the legwork!

We start with the city’s sparklingly spherical millennium landmark, the Coca-Cola London Eye, sitting proudly beside the busy and arty South Bank arts complex.  Here you’ll find theatres, concert halls, galleries and eateries. Then we’ll lead you past, in our view, the best vista in the world, the awesome and ancient Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Westminster Hall and Westminster Abbey. Round the corner and we’re at the London home the Prime Minister, number 10 Downing Street, modest from the outside, but containing a wealth of history and secrets.  You will admire the dashing Household Cavalry on their horses at Horse Guards, then onto the bustling expanse of Trafalgar Square, a tribute to Britain’s greatest sailor, Lord Admiral Nelson, lined with some of the world’s best galleries – the National Gallery and National Portrait Gallery – anyone for a selfie?

Then sit back and let our chauffeur do the work as you peruse the refined roads of St James’s, with its gentleman’s clubs, historic shops where even Royalty buy their groceries, and the hotel to top them all, the hotel designed like a little piece of Versailles in London, The Ritz!  Don’t forget the ancient Royal Palace that this area was named after, handily across the road from the oldest wine merchant in England, Berry Brothers and Rudd.

But still there’s more…how about the “head office” of our Royal family, Buckingham Palace itself, and then there’s the artistic hub that is Tate Britain too, not forgetting the mysterious and infamous MI5 & MI6. You’d be just quackers to miss it!
