Residents display holiday spirit during mount dora christmas tour of homes.

MOUNT DORA — There’s no place like home for the holidays, and area residents won’t have to roam far to feel the all of the warmth of the season as they are welcomed into six homes this weekend during the Mount Dora Christmas Tour of Homes.

Those who take the tour are sure to get loads of holiday decorating ideas as each home is spruced up with uniquely adorned Christmas trees, holiday wreaths and an array of twinkling lights, garlands, bells and bows and unexpected surprises such as a collection of Campbell’s Soup memorabilia. Live Christmas music will be featured in each home and refreshments will be served at the last home on the tour list.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Since 1977, 225 area homeowners have opened their homes for the annual event organized by the Women’s Committee of Fine Arts of Mount Dora, formerly known as the Mount Dora Women’s Committee of the Florida Symphony Society, to raise funds for college scholarships for high-school students of the arts in the Golden Triangle.

More than $275,000 has been awarded from the 100-member group’s efforts to 316 area students. Last year, more than 900 attended the tour, which helped to raise $16,000 in scholarship money and assisted the group in continuing its mission to encourage the appreciation and enrichment of music, art, drama and dance in the community.

“These students entering the fine arts are unique and it may be harder for them to find scholarships elsewhere,” said Sandie Moery, club president.

Moery said she is thrilled to be a part of the event each year and thoroughly enjoyed opening her Mount Dora home for the tour in 2011.

“I had a ball,” she said. “It is like having the best party and you meet so many people and have so much fun with everyone.”

This year, Moery was in charge of rounding up willing homeowners as new homes are featured each year and delegating responsibilities to about 140 volunteers serving as tour guides and hostesses to create the best experience for visitors.

Her new neighbors, Tina and Rod Ashby, who recently moved to Mount Dora from Skaneateles, N.Y., agreed to having their home included in the tour after being asked by Moery and said they can’t wait to greet guests from near and far alike with their rendition of the classic yuletide poem by Clement Clarke Moore:

“‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, every room still looks Northern even though we’ve moved South. With three beds and two baths and some kitchen upgrades, the added lanai has a hot tub displayed! So come wander about to hear us exclaim “Merry Christmas….We’re warm…and finally sane!”

“Every room in the house is decorated and we each created our own style of Christmas trees,” said Tina Ashby, who wed her husband, Rod, two years ago this month. “We really love it here and we are having the time of our lives.” Ashby also will serenade guests on her guitar for those on the tour who come Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning.

Tickets are $15 and available at the Mount Dora Center for the Arts: 138 E. Fifth Avenue, the Tavares Chamber of Commerce or at the door of each home during tour hours. For more information, call 352-735-4324.

Here are the homes on the tour:

*Richard Betson and Bruce Cusic, 100 S. Tremain St., Building E-2 in the Villas of Lake Dora, Mount Dora.

*Linda and Ric Smelser, 2771 Lake Shore Drive, Mount Dora.

*Terri and Bobby Anderson, 1600 E. Crooked Lake Drive, Eustis.

*Marcia Campbell, 8832 Bridgeport Bay Circle in the Lakes of Mount Dora.

*Tina and Rod Ashby, 2120 Park Forest Boulevard in the Country Club of Mount Dora.

*Greta Coleman and Sherri and Chico Hobbs, 5011 Greenbriar Trail in the Country Club of Mount Dora.

Mount Dora: 12 things I love about this delightful town

By: Author Bonnie Gross

Posted on Last updated: January 30, 2024

Mount Dora might as well be called Mount Dorable – it’s that cute. Its downtown and historic district have been restored, landscaped and beautified to maximize the inherent charm of this small town 40 minutes northwest of Orlando.

Mount Dora overlooks Lake Dora and spreads out over rolling hills under a canopy of live oak trees that have been loved and cherished by residents for years.

But is there a “mount” in Mount Dora? Why yes: The elevation peaks at 184 feet.

mount dora mount dora downtown Mount Dora: 12 things I love about this delightful town

Mount Dora has been attracting visitors for more than 130 years. The first hotel opened in 1883 and later became the Lakeside Inn. Early visitors arrived by train, which first reached Mount Dora in 1887.

Today, Mount Dora is a town of 13,000 people that attracts return visitors with a series of popular festivals and events. ( Here’s more on Mount Dora festivals . If you’re planning a visit, you might want to catch one of the festivals or, actually, avoid it, because of the crowds and lack of parking.)

I’ve visited Mount Dora over the years, and have found new things to love every time I visit. Here are my top 12 favorite things.

Mount Dora is full of historic buildings but the 1893 Donnelly House takes the cake. (Yes, the ornate Queen Anne house does look a little wedding-cake-like.) (Photo: Bonnie Gross)

1. Lake Dora’s historic buildings

The Lake Dora historic district has dozens of well-preserved and carefully tended buildings, both residential and commercial, that give the town character. You can enjoy them as you stroll through the very walkable downtown Mount Dora or you can take a more official tour. There are several options for Mount Dora tours:

The Chamber of Commerce, located at 341 Alexander St. offers a free brochure with a self-guided walking tour of the historic district. Weekend visitors take note: They are open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The same information is available on a free app, Distrx , which we used and enjoyed. (I like that it’s location-aware, so you can just look up a building when you’re near it.)

The Mount Dora Trolley offers a one-hour historic tour twice a day four days a week. Mount Dora Transit offers 30 to 40 minute tours by golf cart. The chamber can also give you the phone number of a private tour guide.

The Lakeside Inn in Mount Dora opened in 1883, and it's the oldest continuously operated hotel in Florida. It's listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

2. The historic Lakeside Inn in Mount Dora

With its big porch, fireplace in the lobby and rocking chairs overlooking the lake, this inn looks like it could be in New England. It’s a grand place, where President Calvin Coolidge and his wife stayed for more than a month in the winter of 1930.

When it first opened in the Victorian era, Central Florida was a popular winter destination for activities like bird watching, fishing and picnics. Over the years, the inn had fallen into serious disrepair. New owners bought it and started restoration work in 2011. There are 90 rooms, a bar and restaurant.

I stayed here years ago during it’s decline, and I love seeing how beautiful the old Lakeside Inn looks today!

Old Joe honors a famous alligator of bygone days. You'll find his bronze statue along the path along the lake as you approach Palm Island Boardwalk. (Photo: David Blasco)

3. Old Joe, the alligator (statue)

A 15-foot bronze alligator along the lakefront pathway near the Palm Island Boardwalk commemorates the “largest, fiercest alligator in the lake” at the turn of the 20 th Century, when he was a highlight on boat tours.

Today, Old Joe is a popular photo opportunity on whose back kids love to sit. I also love that a large and very much alive alligator, perhaps Joe’s descendent, was in residence daily on the pier at the Lakeside Inn during our November, 2021, visit. The pier is closed because of hurricane damage, so guests can admire him from a safe distance.

4 . Renninger’s Flea and Farmer’s Market

For people into collectibles and antiques, the big “extraganza” weekends at Renninger’s are the only reason to visit Mount Dora. Extravaganzas, which bring in additional vendors and products, are held in November, January and February.

The antique center is in a large building and has 200 booths with everything from vintage made-in-Hawaii Hawaiian shirts to jewelry, furniture and collectibles. On weekends, an adjoining marketplace is a flea market and farmer’s market that draws lots of vendors and visitors. We didn’t buy a thing, but loved seeing old-time items.

Renninger’s also has smaller special events, including a swap meet for guitars, cars and cycles and variety of special weekends — military shows, Civil War re-enactments, pow wows, Steampunk gathering, garden shows and more.

There is beautiful kayaking in many places near Mount Dora. This is Blackwater Creek, a tributary of the Wekiva River and is located about a half hour from Mount Dora. (Photo: David Blasco)

5. Kayaking near Mount Dora

Another thing I love about Mount Dora is the abundance of outdoor recreation opportunities in the region.

A favorite short kayak paddle is the nearby Dora Canal. It’s only a one-mile canal linking Lake Dora and Lake Eustis, but some think it’s one of the most beautiful miles you’ll ever experience. Here’s more about paddling the Dora Canal.

If you’re not into kayaking, there are several mororized boat tours on Lake Dora that include the Mount Dora canal.

There are so many other kayak opportunities too. We brought our canoe and paddled to Lake Norris and on Blackwater Creek, pristine, wild and exquisitely beautiful waterways nearby. Here’s our story on Lake Norris and Blackwater Creek.

Also close are the beautiful Wekiva River and Rock Creek Run .

6. Palm Island Park boardwalk

Visitors who cluster around the main business district might miss it, but if you keep walking along the lake beyond the Lakeside Inn and the marina, you will eventually reach lovely Palm Island Park with a quarter-mile-long boardwalk that offers views over Lake Dora, curtains of Spanish moss hanging from the lakeside cypress trees and good opportunities to spot birds and gators.

From the park, you’ll see a 35-foot-high red-and-white lighthouse along the lakefront and you’ll probably assume it’s historic. Nope; it’s cute, but it was built in 1988.

mount dora mount dora biking Mount Dora: 12 things I love about this delightful town

7. Biking around Mount Dora

Mount Dora is a popular biking destination with a fall bicycling festival that attracts a thousand cyclists to pedal on the scenic country roads. There isn’t a paved bike path in Mount Dora, but we recommend riding a beautiful two-lane road with light traffic that hugs the shoreline of Lake Dora, Lakeshore Drive. Starting from West 11 th Avenue downtown, you ride west and catch Lakeshore Drive, which continues for six beautiful miles to Tavares. This road has excellent lake views, towering oak trees and beautiful homes and gardens to view.

We actually bicycled the whole 17-mile-long “ Lake Loop Novice Ride , ” which includes Lakeshore Drive, but did not find the rest of the loop comfortable and traffic-free enough to recommend to all. (I am sure experienced road cyclists would have no problem.)

8. Mount Dora restaurants

For a town of 13,000, Mount Dora has a lot of good options for dining. For sunset, the big patio at Pisces Rising , 239 W. 4th Ave., has the terrific views. We particularly enjoyed happy hour at 1921, located at 142 E. Fourth Ave., a restaurant in a beautifully renovated 1921 building once home and office for the town doctor. You can’t beat the clam chowder at Tony’s Clam Chowder Seafood Restaurant , 622 N. Donnelly St.

Several of the bars and restaurants have live music on weekends.

mount dora tavares seaplanes Mount Dora: 12 things I love about this delightful town

9. Visiting two nearby towns: Tavares and Eustis

Mount Dora, Tavares and Eustis are each 20 minutes apart and have been called “the golden triangle.” Each has a historic downtown (Mount Dora’s is the most extensive) and beautiful lakefronts.

We bicycled to Tavares, whose lakefront parks and walkways are scenic and impressive. We love the seaplane base in Tavares . Along the shoreline, you can see seaplanes come and go and even book a seaplane ride.

Eustis is also a historic town on a lake and is 15 minutes from Mount Dora. It holds a monthly Classic Car Cruise Show on the fourth Saturday of the month. (Photo: David Blasco)

We visited Eustis for its monthly Classic Car Cruise Show , which is from 4 to 8 p.m. on the fourth Saturday or each month. It offers hot rods, muscle cars and classic American cars, clearly the pride and joy of the owners who are there to answer questions.

mount dora mount dora lawn bowling Mount Dora: 12 things I love about this delightful town

10. Lawn bowling? Yes.

I had to admit, I didn’t realize lawn bowling was even a thing. But here in Mount Dora, I stumbled on one of the largest “Bowls USA affiliated clubs,” founded in 1928 with 14 “rinks,” which attracts lawn bowlers internationally. The lawn bowling facility is large green expanse located close to the Lakeside Inn near the marina.

How is lawn bowling played? A cousin of bocce, lawn bowling uses a ball that is round in one direction and elliptical in the other, so that it curves when you roll it.

mount dora farmers market mount dora Mount Dora: 12 things I love about this delightful town

11. The farmer’s market (and all the festivals )

Every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., vendors at the Mount Dora Village Market fill the Sunset Park area with booths of interesting produce and products. That’s just the beginning of the outdoor festivals and events that make Mount Dora lively.

Here’s a Florida Rambler story on the major festivals in Mount Dora.

mount dora mabel norris reese Mount Dora: 12 things I love about this delightful town

12. All the plaques honoring and commemorating people

Mount Dora is a civic-minded place and everywhere there are plaques commemorating people who helped protect the trees or worked to found a community theater.

My favorite, though, is a new statue installed in September 2012 in Sunset Park of Mabel Norris Reese , editor and owner of the Mount Dora Topic newspaper. Reese investigated Lake County Sheriff Willis McCall in the 1950s when his department wrongly accused four young black men of raping a white woman in a case that became known as “ The Groveland Four. ” Reese was eventually driven out of town after a cross was burned on her lawn, bombs were set in her home and her dog was poisoned. She continued her crusading journalism after moving to Daytona Beach.

mount dora mount dora sunset Mount Dora: 12 things I love about this delightful town

I said I’d offer 12 things I love about Mount Dora, but actually there are more: I love it for the sunsets over Lake Dora , all the birds you see on the lake (including bald eagles), the big Christmas light display in December, and “ Boathouse Row, ” a few blocks of boathouses converted into cottages perched over the water along Lake Dora Road. (Start at the restaurant Pisces Rising, cross the railroad tracks, and stroll down Lake Dora Road.)

I could go on, but you get the idea: There is a lot to love about this little town.

Where to stay in Mount Dora

Mount Dora has a half dozen well regarded bed and breakfast inns , as well as the Lakeside Inn , all located in the walkable downtown area. In addition, Airbnb and VRBO vacation rentals offer some nice options. ( We stayed in a terrific vacation rental overlooking the lake in a boathouse on Boathouse Row. We also have stayed at a cottage in this group , which was moderately priced and an easy, picturesque walk from downtown.)

Visited in Oct. 21, it was awful. streets were so narrow, every place was expensive and packed. Very crowded. then they had craft shows up and down every street, literally no place to park. We book a boat ride, paid for it and couldn’t go because we couldn’t park anywhere. Also booked a haunted walk, but again couldn’t park anywhere. We had no idea there would be a craft show that weekend but couldn’t do that because all streets were blocked off.

Thanks, Sheila, for sharing your experience. I will add to my story a warning to check whether there is a major festival in town, because they draw big crowds and really change the experience. People love the festivals and the craft fair is one of the biggest.

Loved your story on Mount Dora I used to go there a lot, sometimes by myself, as it was such a charming town. I would always stay at the Lakeside Inn. But about 10 or 8 years ago, I had a terrible experience. The woman who checked us in was rude. The room smelled. I asked for a suite but it was an uninviting Jack and Jill suite. The air conditional leaked in the closet. The main dining room that had always been nice was closed. Our breakfast on the porch was nice. When I complained--which I never do--they were rude. This was one of my favorite places. Glad to know the new owners are fixing it up.

Your article makes me want to go back.

Fun Things to Do in Mount Dora, a Florida Gem Near Orlando

Kathleen Walls

Names say a lot about a place. In Florida, being 184 feet above sea level qualifies this small central Florida city as Mount Dora . It’s promoted as “Something Special” and you’ll understand why when you see its huge ancient live oaks draped in Spanish moss. This “City of Festivals” hosts 30 special events, so there’s always something fun going on.

Mount Dora is a quick half-hour drive from busy Orlando. But you won’t find any theme parks here. Spend your time antiquing and book a seaplane tour for a bird’s eye view of Lake County’s stunning waterways. This is an authentic Florida small town. Here’s what you’ll want to do when visiting.

Olde Mount Dora Carriage Company

Mount Dora ‘s history began in the mid-19th century so it’s only fitting Olde Mount Dora Carriage Company  doesn’t horse around when they take you back in time to explore its historic side in a horseless carriage. The white upholstered and gold trim carriages are electric-powered, so no horses are subject to traffic and hot paved streets. When I climbed into the carriage, it felt like a cross between Disney magic and a royal carriage from the early 20th century.

Brian Stilke and Brittany Poe started the unusual carriage rides just about two years ago. Brian told me he believes, “Mount Dora was the first municipality in the country to unanimously pass an electric carriage ordinance.”

The ride starts at the historic Lak eside Inn , the oldest continuously operated hotel in Florida, where I was staying. My driver, Colleen, explained that the tours are narrated by professional storyteller Louise O’Leary and guide you through the many historic homes and buildings.

Historic Donnelly House

One of the most historic homes I saw on the carriage tour is the 1893  Donnelly House . The yellow with white trim Steamboat Gothic Victorian-style home was built by John P. Donnelly who was the town’s first mayor. He also opened the Alexander Inn which is now the Lakeside Inn. His home is now the headquarters of the local Freemason society. It is rumored to be haunted by Donnelly and his wife and other spirits. Mount Dora Ghost Tours  offers paranormal tours of the home.

Mount Dora Lighthouse

Another point on the carriage tour is the Mount Dora Lighthouse. It’s the only freshwater lighthouse in Florida registered as an inland aid to navigation. The 35-foot red and white lighthouse stands in Grantham Point Park at the Port of Mount Dora where its 750-watt photocell powers a blue pulsator sending out a guiding light to all boaters navigating Lake Dora after dusk. It’s also called Lighthouse Park.

The Palm Island Park Boardwalk  is just south of Grantham Point and the lighthouse and is worth a stroll. It’s an easy walk from historic downtown.

Meet the Alligators in the Dora Canal

There is a lot more than history Mont Dora. For nature lovers, you can kayak into Mount Dora via the Dora Canal . This mile-long waterway connecting Lakes Dora and Eustis is filled with wildlife and Florida greenery. I got the best alligator picture here and lots of beautiful Anhinga photos. You will see herons, egrets, and possibly even a bald eagle, Dora Canal has been called “The Most Beautiful Mile of Water in the World.”

There are several ways to experience the canal. You can take a CatBoat Adventure tour  in a 2-person mini-catamaran on a guided tour across beautiful Lake Dora and through the canal.

If you want someone else to run the boat, you can take one of the Premier Boat Tours  in a covered pontoon boat that leaves from Lakeside Inn. There are several places with boar rentals available.

If you prefer to kayak the canal with your own boat, you can get the entire experience by starting near the canal entrance to Lake Eustis and paddling to Summerall Park near Lake Dora in Tavares. Tavares is less than five miles from Mount Dora and driving is easy and traffic-free.

Soar in a Seaplane

Wooten Park in Tavares is the place for another unique adventure. Taveras is known as America’s Seaplane City so I had to take a seaplane Splash and Dash tour with Jones Brothers Air and Seaplane Adventures.

Our pilot, Paul, boarded me and another couple, Bob and Sue, into a 1978 CESSNA Fixed wing single-engine plane with just six small seats including the pilot’s. Paul told us the plane had a 300 horsepower engine and could achieve a speed of 132mph.

He flew us over Lake Dora and across Mount Dora . We circled around the lighthouse and flew over fields of blueberries that are currently a big crop in Lake County. Since the plane had pontoons instead of wheels for landing in water, Paul dipped down and skidded along Lake Dora for several hundred feet. What a fun way to fly!

Step Back in Time

Neighboring Tavares has two museums that explore its history including the seaplane phenomena.

Lake County Historical Museum

Lake County Historical Museum  is located on the first floor of the historic courthouse. It traces Lake County from its earliest days.

Tavares History Museum

Tavares History Museum focuses on the town of Tavares. It’s located in a replica of the old train depot from the days when this was an important railroad hub for the citrus industry. There is an exhibit focusing on the seaplanes.

Check Out Mount Dora’s Art Festival

Mount Dora is known as the City of Festivals. They host over 30 annual festivals. The simply named Art Festival,  held annually in February, is the largest. I was amazed at the number of tents filled with every kind of art from painting, glass art, sculptures, jewelry, handmade musical instruments, and more.

One artist, Barbara Rush, painted multi-colored dogs that reminded me of the famous Louisiana artist, George Rodrigue’s Blue Dog Paintings. A metalwork artist, Josh Price, made amazing statues using recycled car parts. The entire downtown is closed to traffic and swarms with art lovers, many with their dogs along, viewing the art.

SheBuysTravel Tip : Mount Dora is very dog-friendly. Most of the restaurants have patio seating and allow dogs. Many of the businesses have dog water bowls set out for the furry visitors.

Tour the Modernism Museum

Along with the street artists, there are galleries and one museum that celebrates art. Modernism Museum  is currently showing furniture art created by the Memphis Group. Since I had never heard of them, I was fascinated to learn that the group, also known as the Memphis Milano, designed furniture, ceramics, metal, and glass during the 1900s. They created a post-modern style based on Art Déco and Pop Art styles, using bright colors, geometric shapes, and bold patterns. Their furniture was not only artistically interesting, it was functional.

Since I had just finished writing a book on the history of American music, I was fascinated to learn that most of the pieces on display had been owned by the late David Bowie, and the group’s name was taken from a Bob Dylan song, “Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again.”

Many of their pieces are named for famous New York City hotels  like Plaza, an Art Deco-looking vanity, or the Belvedere, a marble, granite, and pietra serena console.

Go Antiquing

We all want to take home an unusual souvenir from our travels. Mount Dora is filled with secondhand shopping opportunities if you’re interested in a treasure hunt.

Village Antique Mall

When you pull into the parking lot and see two life-size winged goblin statues, you know this place will have some special finds. The mall  is housed in a 1959 former grocery store. The mall opened its doors in 1998 and has been offering a 12,000-square-foot building for 60 vendors to offer furniture, jewelry, comic books, cartoon memorabilia, wall art, and about any collectible or antique you can imagine.

One of my favorite discoveries was an antique stove. I try to imagine cooking on the little white enamel gas burner but feel I would probably burn everything. The antique jewelry at many vendors also tempted me.

Treasure Mart

Another place to search for antique and collectible treasures is at Treasure Mart . It’s a drive from downtown on Hwy 441 and has over 100 vendors. I saw lots of collectibles and there is even a clearance center in the back of the store where items are marked way down. Many of the vendors had varying discounts for their booths. There is a lot of antique jewelry, one of my favorite souvenirs to bring home.

Renninger’s Flea Market

Venture a bit farther on Hwy 441 and you find another treasure hunter’s heaven, Renningers Flea Market . Actually, Renningers is a dual market with the traditional flea market section and another section devoted to just antiques. Wear comfortable shoes as it is huge.

Besides the usual items, there are dining spots, a farmers’ market section with fresh produce, and a garden section with healthy-looking plants.

Where to Eat in Mount Dora

When you venture away from the hotel, there are dining spots ranging from small cafes to elegant dining not only in the downtown area but all over Mt. Dora. Jeremiah’s Restaurant & Bar  has been family-owned and operated since 1984. I enjoyed chicken and dumplings with a baked potato side.

1921 Mount Dora

1921,  in downtown Mount Dora , is owned by the Modernism Art Museum so you find rotating art exhibits on its walls. It’s like stepping into an art gallery. Their cheese boards are delicious and, since they are served with generous portions of toasted sourdough bread, very filling.

Pisces Rising

Pisces Rising  is another restaurant built around a 1919 home with a view of Lake Dora. I loved their shrimp and grits. Thursday through Sunday, you’ll find live music on the outside deck.

Fifth Avenue Streatery

If you’re looking for a cross between a fine dining establishment and a food truck, look no further than Fifth Avenue Streatery . They are completely outdoors and are very dog-friendly. I was stuffed with the delicious shrimp basket with fries but had to try their Bananas Forster Crepe. Wow! It was delicious but with three huge scoops of ice cream inside a crepe drizzled with warm Bananas Foster, it is best shared.

Cody’s on 4th St.

Go where the locals go for a home-style experience. Cody  loves to offer unusual dishes to tempt your taste buds. I loved her French Toast Casserole which is a cross between French toast and a traditional New Orleans-style bread pudding.

There are also three choices for dining and a seasonal outdoor bar at the Lakeview Inn .

The Beauclaire Restaurant

The Beauclaire is a full-service restaurant that oozes traditional Victorian elegance. It’s open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The Verandah

If the weather is nice, The Verandah , offers a casual dining experience with a view of Lake Dora.

Tremain’s Tavern

This casual eatery resembles a gentlemen’s club of the Victorian era and is the place for a cocktail or laidback meal at the hotel.

The Lakeside Pool Bar

When the weather permits on weekends, Lakeside Pool Bar is perfect for a cocktail while taking a dip or just looking at Lake Dora.

Paramount+ has renewed its new “ Dora ” series for a second season.

Based on “ Dora the Explorer ,” which ran on Nickelodeon from 2000 to 2019, the animated preschool series follows a Dora (voiced by Diana Zermeño), and her best friend, a monkey named Boots (Asher Colton Spence), as they embark on adventures in a fantastical rainforest. Guided by their trustworthy talking Map (Anairis Quiñones), Dora and her friends must work together to overcome many obstacles while being challenged by a sneaky fox named Swiper (Marc Weiner). Kathleen Herles, the original voice of Dora the Explorer, voices Dora’s mother aka Mami.

“Our audiences have embraced the new ‘Dora’ series with open arms, and it’s incredible how she continues to capture the imaginations of preschoolers around the world with her extraordinary rainforest adventures,“ said Ramsey Naito, president of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation. “We can’t wait for kids to discover all of the new fantastical places and colorful characters in the second season while learning and playing along with their good friend Dora.”

“Dora” is produced by Nickelodeon Animation and created by Chris Gifford and Valerie Walsh Valdes, who created the original “Dora the Explorer” with Eric Weiner. Gifford and Valdes executive produce alongside Rich Magallanes. Henry Lenardin-Madden serves as co-executive producer and Alejandro Bien-Willner serves as story editor. Marielle Kaar is Nickelodeon’s executive in charge of production for the series.
