My Mum is planning her first solo trip to the USA next year and liked the look of the New England tour with a company called 'One Traveller'. Has anyone used this company and have any feedback/

If you want to know a bit about the various tour groups read their write ups on their home page and not the publicity photos and comments. Each seems to attract a certain & different type of person so it gives a small idea to see whether it is the most suitable.

If that one has the most appealing itinerary, and it sounds as though your mum is travelling primarily because of the things she wants to see then perhaps she should go with that. I had a look and it seems a good holiday, plenty of memorable things to do.

It is very expensive and you need to check out the cost of insurance to the USA which is usually extra from the UK.

My one concern was that I couldn't find how long they have been established and I haven't heard of them before. Only their website comes up on a search, usually there are lots of references and reviews. This doen't mean there is something wrong necessarily but a firm that has been going for some years is getting the holidays right and has had time to tweak them.

Read the Terms and Conditions throughly - they have set them out well and are easy to read. They are on their web site

Another thought that has occoured to me is that they don't give the names of the hotels. If you can, find out what they are by emailing and check them on the reviews. For the price you are paying I would expect the hotels to be named.

I've looked at some long established companies who have had occasional undesirable hotels once researched. It can make a huge difference to a trip.

Intrepid is good. I've done a few of theirs.

Go for the "original" tours. They have a a good age range. The ones I've been on have 28-60 year olds.

Basix is young peopple mainly.

Comfort is lots of oldies.

I have travelled with this company and have found them to be extremely good. Their attention to detail in every aspect has been amazing, they look after their travellers from start to finish very well, and the itinerary and hotels used are very good too. Iv been on 4 of their holidays and never had a bad word or cause to worry.

Could you tell us which were the 4 hols, where you went and which hotels you stayed at? Would be more useful.

It would also be helpful if you could fill in your profile like, what age you are (whether this would be suitable for the OP) and your country of origin.

Simply the best!! Their attention to detail is superb. Most tours include breakfast plus some dinners & others eg China. & Thailand. Include all meals I have been on 3 tours with them- - China, Thailand & St Petersburg & will be doing the Boston, New York & New England tour in September. As far as I'm concerned they beat the other Singles holiday companies hands down. But get hold of their brochure which will include details of the hotels they use plus photos.

Great trip to Sri Lanka

Really enjoyable trip to Sri Lanka with a group of 27 over 50's via One Traveller. The programme, tours (mostly), hotels (mostly) and food (mostly) were fantastic. This was my 2nd trip with OT after a 5* holiday last year to Vietnam & Cambodia and I would definitely go with OT again. The amount of included meals, drinks, trips and tours makes it very good value.

Full on tour for 22 days

Full on tour for 22 days, I did Victoria Falls & Rovos Train extras. Upto the Rovos train the tour was enjoyable. Rovos train was OK until it moved off travelling on narrow gauge rail tracks at slow pace of about 20 to 30mph all day & all night, on tracks used by relentless long mining trains, tracks not maintained properly carriages we're being rocked back & forth constantly with numerous juddering. I thought we had square wheels fitted as standard ! Could not sleep properly for 3 nights due to this & constant diesel train fumes coming into my cabin, which was 3rd from 3 train diesel engine units. Reported this to Henne the train manager, but he was not concerned, did nothing. Would never recommend a Rovos train from Vic falls to Pretoria..apparently staff said all south African train tracks are narrow gauge...about 90-100cm ..UK trains are about 142cm much wider & gives a more smooth & stable ride. Rovos train brochure very glossy, but beware..they dont mention rough ride.....very expensive add on, very disappointed indeed.

A fabulous holiday - no worries

Absolutely everything was organised for me, all I had to do was be punctual then sit back and enjoy the experience. My fellow One Travellers were a delightful, friendly group. There was always someone to chat to and share the pleasure of sightseeing. My daughters commented that I look happy and peaceful in my photographs, which is certainly how I felt.

Excellent, efficient and Friendly

From the time you make a booking, any queries are dealt, with patience and time to explain. Our accommodation is always excellent within their control. (Nobody knows what can change). I have had many different holidays with them and wouldn’t change a thing. I made many friends from our groups and some time we see each other again on new adventures. Looking forward to meeting up with new friends on my next adventure. Excellent holiday

I enjoyed my holiday to South Africa and the Victoria Falls very much. The itinerary and accommodation were excellent. There were poor experiences at 2 restaurants but I hope those will be changed for future holidays. This is the reason I have not given 5 stars. For me, the highlights were the stay at the Kruger National Park, which far exceeded my expectations, and the Victoria Falls add on.

Great company

Have done two tours with One Traveller and another one booked for June. I think this speaks for itself. Great company and wonderful tour managers. Very efficient. I can highly recommend.

Everything was great

Everything was great. Lovely hotels, very good food. The local guides were very informative and easy to listen to. 4 x 4 vehicles and drivers were very good. David the Tour Manager was very helpful and due to him everything run like clockwork. A great Tour,thank you

Uk guide needs to be more pro active pointless giving phone contact when never answered in country guide Lek marvellous and driver Numbering system does not work on coach or dinner apart from that great holiday

First One Traveller experience…

This was my first holiday with One Traveller. The pre holiday admin was the best I have experienced and I have used many firms over the years. The tour manager was very experienced and the two local guides were very knowledgeable and were eager to talk about their country and its customs. The hotels and food were excellent. The tour was well planned and showed us a variety experienced. Unfortunately the weather caused some problems but that was unforeseen. I have already booked another holiday with One Traveller.

My holiday to Sri Lanka far exceeded my…

My holiday to Sri Lanka far exceeded my expectations. With beautiful hotels, with amazing food buffets making the accommodation second to none. This was a very packed itinerary, but the included excursions were excellent and not to be missed. The local guide was very experienced and knowledgeable and was with us for the entire tour. I could write volumes about how great this holiday was. Sri Lanka is a wonderful, welcoming island.

Travel One Brochure

Travel One’s brochure/website information is prepared many months in advance of its publication and circumstances regarding flights and accommodation can and do change in the interim. Should we be made aware of any significant changes to the brochure/website description which we think will adversely affect the enjoyment of your holiday, we will inform you at the time of booking or, if you have already booked, as soon as reasonably possible prior to your departure date.

Passports & Visas

A valid, full British passport is essential for all UK citizens travelling to all destinations in this brochure/website and should normally be valid for a minimum of 6 months after the return travel date (8 months for Turkey). It is  your responsibility  to contact the relevant embassy or consulate to obtain this information. If you need to apply for (or renew) a passport, it is best to do so as early as possible before your departure date. British visitors to  India  &  Sri Lanka  require a visa which can be purchased online (approximately £40 for India and 30 US dollars for Sri Lanka). Holders of British and non-British passports should contact the relevant consulate or embassy of the countries featured in this brochure/ website for up-to-date passport and visa information as regulations can and do change with little or no notice. Should you amend your name for any reason between the time of booking and the departure date, we must be notified immediately in order to make the necessary changes to your holiday documentation (see Booking Conditions – ‘if you change your booking’). The name on your flight ticket and passport must correspond. If not, aircraft boarding may be denied and may also result in insurance cover becoming invalid. Please note that it is your responsibility to have a valid passport and appropriate visa for your holiday. 

Check your passport and travel documents before you travel

Passport validity.

If you are planning to travel to an EU country (except Ireland), or Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino or Vatican City, you must follow the Schengen area passport requirements .

Your passport must be:

• issued less than 10 years before the date you enter the country (check the ‘date of issue’)
• valid for at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave (check the ‘expiry date’)

You must check your passport meets these requirements before you travel. If your passport was issued before 1 October 2018, extra months may have been added to its expiry date.

Contact the embassy of the country you are visiting if you think that your passport does not meet both these requirements. Renew your passport if you need to .

If you hold a non-British passport it is your responsibility to check passport and visa details with the relevant consulate

Health & Vaccinations

We strongly recommend that you check with your doctor as to what vaccinations and / or pills are advisable or necessary at least 2 months before your departure date. You should also refer to the Department of Health leaflet “Access to Healthcare Abroad” which can be obtained free of charge.

Data Protection Statement

In order to process your booking and to ensure that your holiday arrangements run smoothly, Travel One will use certain information that you provide, such as your name, contact information and credit/debit card details. We take full responsibility to ensure that proper security measures are in place to protect your information. We must pass this information on to the relevant suppliers of your travel and holiday arrangements, such as airlines, hotels and other transport companies. This information may also be provided to public bodies such as customs and immigration, if required by them, or as required by law. Additionally, where your holiday is outside the EU, controls on data protection may not be as strong as the legal requirements of the EU/UK. However, we will not pass any information on to persons who are not responsible for any part of your travel and holiday arrangements. This particularly applies to any sensitive information you give us such as details of any disabilities, dietary or religious-based requirements. If we did not pass this information on to the abovementioned suppliers then we would be unable to make your booking. In making a booking you will consent to this information being passed to the relevant suppliers and authorities. Please note that for the purposes of staff training telephone conversations may be recorded.

Night Flights & Hotel Rooms

Your hotel accommodation is reserved for you from midday on the date of your departure from the UK. For night flights with a scheduled departure of between midnight and 0600, the day of departure is, for reservations purposes, the previous day. Should you arrive at your hotel in the early hours or during the morning of the day after your departure from the UK, your accommodation will be immediately available. In these circumstances, this is classed as the first night of your holiday even though it is only part of a night. All rooms will usually have to be vacated by 1200 noon on the last day of your holiday (1000 on cruise holidays). Occasionally, there may be several hours to wait before the departure of your return flight. In such cases and depending on availability, a room may be made available for you to shower, change and / or store your baggage. Some hotels allow you to keep your room after midday but there is usually a charge for this which should be paid locally directly to the hotel.

Hotel Meals

Self-service buffet meals are the norm for most holidays and will usually be available throughout the Travel One programme. Breakfast will be the continental type unless otherwise stated. Special dietary requests will be treated as special requests and will not form part of your contract with Travel One. Please note that certain flight timings may cause you to miss a meal on arrival or prior to departure even if this meal is brochure as part of the holiday. We regret we cannot make refunds in these circumstances.

In-Flight Meals

There is a charge for all meals, snacks and drinks on most airlines and all ‘no-frills’ carriers. Unless shown otherwise on your holiday confirmation invoice, in-flight meals, snacks and drinks will not be provided.

In most of the hotels and cruises featured, the dress code is casual throughout the day but smart casual in the evening. In all hotels and on all cruises, the gentleman is requested to wear long trousers and not shorts for dinner (in Tunisia this is compulsory).

Airline Baggage Allowance

Unless advised otherwise, your baggage allowance is 20kgs. An additional baggage allowance may be available on certain flights but this is dependent on the airline operating the route. There is a charge for all additional baggage allowances.

Central Heating & Air-conditioning

Certain hotels which offer central heating and / or air-conditioning in public rooms and/or bedrooms only operate the system at peak times in order to conserve energy (in Tunisia air-conditioning operates from mid-June to mid-September and in Malta, it normally operates in the afternoon and at night). Some hotels have centrally controlled units, while others have individual appliances in each room. Please note there may be a local charge for some bedroom appliances.

Solar Heating

Many hotels, especially in the Mediterranean, use solar power to heat their water supply but, of course, cloudy days, early mornings and late evenings mean no sunshine which, in turn, means no hot water. However, most hotels have a back-up system for heating water but, please note, not all.

Building Work

Building work and noise from drills, cranes, etc. is almost unavoidable in developing resorts. Some countries are stricter than others regarding the control of building work but, unfortunately, any resort development is completely beyond our control. Quite often, electricity and water supplies are affected although power cuts and water shortages are a lot less common now than before. If, in our opinion, building work is likely to adversely affect the enjoyment of your holiday, we will inform you either at the time of booking or, if you’ve already booked your holiday, as soon as possible after receiving a report from our resort representative or agent.

Early & Late Season Facilities

Some resorts’ seasons are longer than others’ and certain facilities in some hotels and resorts may not be available in early and late season. There will occasionally be early and late-season maintenance in most featured accommodation.

Safety Standards

We urge you to take all reasonable precautions to protect yourself whilst on holiday especially in public areas such as restaurants, lifts, swimming pools, balconies and other environments which may pose a threat to personal safety. You should exercise particular care with food and drink.

Minimum Group Numbers

Most holidays in the Travel one programme require a minimum number of persons to enable them to take place and we reserve the right to determine the number in each group. Should the minimum number for a particular holiday (where applicable) not be reached, we will advise you approximately 4 weeks before departure and, where possible, offer an alternative holiday. If an alternative holiday is not possible or acceptable, we reserve the right to cancel the holiday and refund  all monies paid by you to Travel One  in respect of the holiday. Please note that Travel One  will not be responsible for any additional costs  you may have incurred (e.g. domestic flights, trains, car parking, etc) should your holiday be cancelled.

Prices & Exchange Rates

Prices include VAT on all holidays to EU countries. Exchange rates used to calculate VAT and known costs for prices in this brochure are the rates applicable at the time of brochure publication. In the event of the exchange rate and fuel cost fluctuations, Travel One will absorb the first 2% of any increase to your holiday cost but reserves the right to pass on any increased holidays costs over and above 2%. However, if this amount exceeds your total holiday price by more than 10%, you will be able to cancel your holiday with a full refund. In all cases, you will be notified not less than 12 weeks before your departure date.

• Excursions, gratuities, porterage, certain hotel & cruise facilities and other personal expenditure
• Any applicable room or meal supplements
• Holiday insurance
• Charges which airlines, hotels or cruises may make for items such as luggage, in-flight meals, sports equipment, porterage, sunbeds, entertainment, room service, air-conditioning, etc
• Greece – €1.50 per person per day tourist tax (payable locally 3-star hotels)
• Greece – €3 per person per day tourist tax (payable locally 4-star hotels)
• Italy – €1.50 per person per day tourist tax (payable locally).
• Majorca – €2 per person per day tourist tax (payable locally) in 1/2/3 star hotels (€3 in 4/5 star hotels
• Malta – 50 cents (half a euro) per person per day tourist tax (payable locally)
• Cost of visas or vaccinations where necessary
• Overseas arrival / departure taxes & visa charges imposed by the relevant overseas country and payable locally
