I’ll start off with luggage brands that are synonymous with quality and high-end design, but I’ll also throw in some more affordable options for travelers on a tighter budget!

Samsonite’s Freeform luggage collection features spinner luggage in three sizes – a 21” carry-on, a 24” medium bag, and a 28” large checked case. The suitcases are available in a beautiful pink color, which will without a doubt stand out in the sea of black and grey luggage at the airport.

The Freeform luggage is made from durable polypropylene, the lightest material hardside luggage can be made from. It’s not quite as durable as polycarbonate, but it’s a close second because the material is durable and very impact-resistant.

Other features of this suitcase are standard; there’s a telescopic wheel handle with multi-stage adjustment, smooth double spinner wheels, and a TSA-friendly lock for security. The Freeform also has grab handles on the top and side, for maximum convenience.

Rimowa is the leading brand in the luggage market, and you can absolutely never go wrong with one of their luggage pieces. It’s an expensive brand, but worth the money if you can afford it without breaking the bank. The build quality, innovative features, and excellent warranty justify the high price points of Rimowa luggage.

This brand usually makes aluminum luggage, but they have a collection of polycarbonate luggage, which includes a beautiful pastel pink color. The Essential Collection features pink luggage pieces in three sizes, which range from a convenient carry-on to a very large checked case.

Rimowa’s luggage is always equipped with top-of-the-line features, including smooth and silent double spinner wheels, a TSA-approved lock, and a height-adjustable wheel handle. The telescopic handle can be locked at any height, which is truly a feature you can get only on premium and luxury luggage .

Inside the Rimowa suitcase, you get two packing compartments, one with a standard zippered divider and the other with the brand’s proprietary Flex Divider. The Flex Divider is height adjustable for maximum flexibility, and it’s got a convenient zippered pocket.

You also have the option of a carry-on without an external pocket, but I think the convenience of an external pocket on a hard side piece of luggage is unbeatable. The shell of the luggage is made from aerospace-grade polycarbonate for maximum durability. This suitcase has lockable YKK zippers, a TSA-friendly lock, and a height-adjustable wheel handle.

The Carry-On Pro boasts two roomy packing compartments, although I must point out that one compartment is smaller than what you might be used to, because of the external pocket. The smaller compartment has a zippered divider with a closed pocket, while the larger compartment boasts a height-adjustable divider with an extra zippered pocket.

The external compartment is perfect for documents, laptops, and anything you want to have handy at the airport. Use it to store your power bank, passport, boarding passes, books, magazines, and chargers – you’ll be able to neatly organize everything because this compartment has loads of open and closed pockets.

Tumi is a luxury luggage brand known for its excellent craftsmanship and innovative features. One of their best innovations is the TUMI Tracer system, which essentially means that you can never lose your Tumi suitcase after you register it on their website.

This suitcase also has two TSA-approved locks, which guarantee the safety of its contents. The wheel handle is height adjustable, the double spinner wheels are completely silent, and all the handles feature luxurious leather accents.

The interior of this luggage is surprisingly elaborate and you get a lot more than just two packing compartments. Both compartments have full panel dividers and elastic cross straps, and the top compartment also includes a hanger. There are multiple pockets inside the luggage, for easy organization of all the smaller items.

Travelpro is an excellent luggage brand with mid-range prices. They’re not exactly cheap, but they’re not outrageously expensive either. All their luggage is of excellent quality, which makes this brand the top choice of airline professionals.

The Maxlite 5 in Orchid Pink is a really great option for frequent travelers and this is the 5th version of this case. So, it just keeps getting better, lighter and longer lasting. The luggage is made from Polyester fabric with their patented DuraGuard® coating to help keep it clean and dry. Travelpro has also added smooth spinner wheels and a telescopic wheel handle with a comfy grip.

The Travelpro Maxlite soft side suitcases have 2 inches of expandable capacity, which I love because I always have more coming home than when I left. And, there are outside pockets which I love to stuff too, or use for easy access items when checking in (papers, documents, charging cable etc).

All in all, you can never go wrong with the Maxlite. However, if you want a hard side version instead they also have the Maxlite Air too !

Delsey Paris is an excellent luggage brand, especially if you want a suitcase that’s not only pink but features a completely unique design. The brand’s Chatelet collection is gorgeous, but also extremely durable and functional.

This luggage boasts a polycarbonate construction with reinforced corners, double spinner wheels, and an ergonomic wheel handle. There’s also a recessed TSA-friendly lock, as well as a USB port for charging on the go. The Delsey suitcases also have special SECURITEX zippers that are tamper-proof, for extra peace of mind when traveling.

The interior of this luggage is just as feature-packed as its exterior. Both compartments have full-panel dividers and tie-down straps, as well as multiple zippered pockets. You’ll also get a travel hanger and a removable laundry bag, plus the lining features SILVADUR coating for improved odor resistance.

The Chatelet luggage collection boasts suitcases in five different sizes, ranging from a small 19” carry-on to a 28” checked suitcase. You can also choose from four options of luggage sets, all of which are available in a beautiful pink color.

I had to include at least one softshell suitcase, and this hot pink luggage from American Tourister is the perfect option. Not only is this luggage the most exciting shade of pink you can find, but it’s also highly durable and surprisingly affordable.

American Tourister is owned by Samsonite, so you can expect this luggage to be of really good quality. The cases are made from durable polyester, they’ve got spinner wheels, telescopic wheel handles, and even lockable zippers. But those are all features you have on virtually every hardside suitcase, so let’s talk about the benefits of having a softside piece of luggage.

Of course, it’s pockets. This American Tourister luggage has many internal and external pockets, for effortless organization. If you want a suitcase that allows you to keep some items handy, and everything else neatly organized, this might just be the best pink suitcase for you.

The packing compartment is spacious, fully lined, features elastic cross straps, and multiple pockets. It’s also possible to expand the capacity of this luggage, so you can fit a lot more inside it than it initially looks.

American Tourister Moonlight Hardside Luggage

If you’re looking for affordable luggage but you prefer hardside to softside suitcases, here’s another option from American Tourister for you. It’s an affordable rose gold suitcase made from both ABS plastic and polycarbonate, and it’s available in four sizes: 20”, 22”, 26” and 28”.

This luggage has single spinner wheels, a telescopic wheel handle, expandable capacity, and grab handles on the top and sides. It doesn’t have any locks, which is a downside if you need a large-capacity case, but shouldn’t be a deal-breaker for carry-on luggage.

The interior of this American Tourister luggage is split into two packing compartments. Both are fully lined and feature elastic cross straps on one side and a full-panel zippered divider on the other. The divider is mostly mesh, so you can easily see what’s packed in both compartments.

One downside of this luggage is that there’s only one small pocket in the bottom compartment. It’s not the ideal option for staying organized when traveling, but that’s honestly acceptable considering how affordable the luggage is.

Ted Baker Women's Belle Luggage

Ted Baker is a high-end brand best known for clothing and watches, but they also dabble in the luggage market. As with any other Ted Baker item, the luggage is made from premium quality, and it boasts some truly stunning designs. The Belle suitcase is without a doubt the prettiest pink suitcase you can get your hands on if you can stomach the price point.

It’s an expensive piece of luggage, but definitely not the most expensive option included here. Also, the luggage has enough features to justify the higher price point, starting with the beautiful and durable polycarbonate shell. Then there are the double spinner wheels, the aluminum wheel handle with a rose gold finish, and the TSA-friendly lock.

The Belle luggage is available in four sizes, including a 21” carry-on, a 27” medium checked bag, a 28” large suitcase, and a small vanity case. The carry-on has only one grab handle at the top, while the two larger suitcases feature an additional grab handle on the side.

The interior of this luggage is also entirely pink, and I mean entirely – the dividers, zippers, cross straps, zipper pullers, it’s all pink! There are two full panel dividers inside, one of which features two zippered pockets, while the other is entirely made from mesh so you can easily see inside. The bottom compartment has a pair of elastic cross straps inside in addition to the divider, which guarantees your belongings will stay put in transport.

The Luggex suitcase is another great option if you’re in the market for an affordable pink suitcase. This brand actually has two options for the color; one is a light pink and the other is a shiny rose gold.

The suitcases are available in three different sizes as well as a three-piece set, and the set is excellent value for money if you need more than one suitcase. And don’t let anyone tell you that three pink suitcases are overkill – they’re absolutely not and you’re entitled to as many pink suitcases as you like!

This luggage is actually really good quality, despite the affordable price point. It’s made from durable polycarbonate with aluminum reinforcements on the corners, for excellent durability. The cases also feature double spinner wheels, a retractable wheel handle, a TSA-friendly lock, and expandable capacity.

Opening up the Luggex suitcases exposes two packing compartments, each with a full-panel zippered divider. One compartment has two pockets on the divider, while the other features elastic cross-straps inside. Another thing to note is that, if you decide to purchase a set with three pieces of luggage, you can easily store them inside one another.

What To Look For

Buying a suitcase that’s just the right size is essential to ensure you have a bag to pack for your next trip. If you don’t want to deal with checked baggage get a carry-on, but double-check that it’s small enough for the airline to accept it as a cabin bag.

On the other hand, if you need luggage for a longer trip, go with a medium or a large checked bag. Medium cases are usually good for trips up to two weeks, while the largest suitcases can work for trips that are longer than 15 days.

The material a suitcase is made from tells you a lot about its durability. Hardside luggage is more durable than softside luggage, especially cases that are made from polycarbonate. That’s the best material for hardshell suitcases because it’s lightweight, flexible, and has excellent impact resistance.

Polypropylene is a close second; it’s lighter than PC, but it’s not quite as impact resistant. ABS plastic is the least durable, but it’s fine for carry-on bags. Softside suitcases are okay for carry-ons and road trips, but I wouldn’t recommend them for checked baggage.

Most suitcases included in this review are packed with features, so don’t settle for anything that you don’t absolutely love. Consider if there are any features you can’t live without, whether that’s a TSA lock, expandable capacity, or multiple internal pockets, and then find that one perfect pink suitcase that checks all your boxes.

Price Point

I’ve included luggage that costs anywhere from $100 to $1,000+, to cover options for anyone’s budget. The more affordable suitcases might lack some premium features, but they’re all well-made and equipped with the standard features that most of us are used to having on our luggage.

So, get the luggage that you can comfortably afford, and don’t overspend on a suitcase because there’s really no need.

If you’re having trouble deciding on just one of these pink suitcases, consider going with one of my favorite options.

Choosing just one hardside pink suitcase is not an easy task, but I have to go with the Monos Carry-On Pro for cabin baggage. I absolutely love the external compartment because it will make your life so much easier if you’re traveling with just the carry-on.

The luggage is also extremely durable, equipped with all the features that are necessary for high-quality luggage, and it will allow you to take your organizational skills to the next level.

Another hardside suitcase that I’m a little obsessed with is the Delsey Paris Chatelet 2.0 . I’m a huge fan of this luggage collection, and the pink version is just perfect in my opinion.

The suitcases are all extremely durable thanks to PC construction, they’ve got spinner wheels, great wheel handles, and an interior that will make your eyes water if you like having pockets. Plus you get a free laundry bag and a travel hanger!

It passed our durability tests with flying colors, with the polycarbonate shell and spinner wheels not showing any signs of wear and tear, which is exactly what you'd want from your checked suitcase (after all, airport handlers are not exactly known for their gentle handling of luggage). We were also impressed with how easy it was to maneuver it — even when fully packed — along various surfaces and quickly change directions with no drag so, whether you're heading to the airport or rolling it along a historic street in Europe, this is a solid choice.  Speaking of its capacity, this Delsey trunk should definitely be at the top of your list for winter or cold-weather trips . We packed a long list of items, plus a very bulky puffer jacket with the help of its compression straps, and had no issues closing it. Beautiful design, quality materials, and lightweight construction, what else could you want from the perfect carry-on? This Bric spinner trunk checks all the boxes. We found it exceptionally easy to push and pull, with the spinner wheels turning smoothly. While this carry-on trunk doesn't have a side handle, we found it easy to lift and place in overhead compartments during testing. 

It also scored a perfect rating in the design category for its innovative internal organization that features two main compartments, both of which have zippered pockets that will come in handy for storing laundry or shoes. The only thing we couldn't fit was our toiletries after packing for a four-day trip, but you can easily place those in your personal item . Finally, yes, we know this suitcase is an investment, but our tests showed that it is worth its price tag.

We wish the telescopic handle went higher.

One of the reasons we'd check in a suitcase is if we are carrying bulky or oddly shaped items. And this is exactly why we love this Delsey trunk. After using this trunk for over three months, we love its size and shape, which is big enough to fit a ton of items for even a two-week long trip, but it isn't as bulky as a traditional checked bag. The trunk is designed with one side much deeper than the other, making it perfect for transporting ski equipment (like ski boots or a helmet, for example). Additionally, we packed a long list of items and still had plenty of room left over. We also appreciated the zippered pockets on the two divider flaps that could be used for smaller items. This is a very packing-cube-friendly trunk as you could easily stack them on top of each other in the deeper compartment.

Once you check it in at the airport, you can rest assured that your items will arrive at your destination safe and sound, thanks to the durable and tough polycarbonate construction that, together with the four double spinner wheels, held up remarkably well after several hits and drops, even in the creamy color.

"This isn't a bag, it's an apartment," said one of our Travel + Leisure editors who tested this suitcase in our lab. The inside of this trunk is incredibly spacious, and rather than a 70/30 or 80/20 construction that most trunks have, this one splits evenly to distribute the weight so that it doesn't feel lopsided. We found it helpful that both sides of the clamshell zip closed to keep all of your items contained. There are also several pockets with zippers to stash smaller items and to prevent them from getting lost in the void.

This trunk is best suited for a long trip (or even a moving day) when you need ample space, but you can expect to pay overweight baggage fees if you pack it full because of the sheer size. Despite the size and weight, we found it shockingly easy to maneuver over different surfaces and through our obstacle course. Though the handle has three height adjustments, we thought the suitcase itself was tall, so shorter travelers may find the height a bit awkward. The price is an investment, but we think this high-quality piece will last a lifetime.

The trunk has an aluminum frame which adds durability but also weight.

French automobile maker Peugeot helped Delsey create this sleek travel trunk, and we could definitely tell it was designed with the security and durability of its contents in mind. Since trunks can be large and deep, organization is key, and we love how this one has two main compartment with compression straps and mesh flaps on top with zippered pockets to keep everything locked in place. In addition to the two large compartments, there are also two zippered mesh pockets and a handy pocket for a Bluetooth tracker (tracker not included).

The four wheels are extremely well-made, and the bag is easy to turn and maneuver. However, because of the sheer weight of the trunk, travelers might find it heavy to lift when fully packed (it's almost 12 pounds when empty, due to its aluminum frame). Another factor to consider is that you'll hit an airline's weight limit quicker if you are not careful with how much you pack inside. Still, the sleek exterior withstood being checked during multiple trips over our three-month long-term testing period and protected all of our items well.

If you’re looking for a suitcase that will garner attention no matter where you are, this posh, vintage-inspired suitcase tops our list. Gold-hued latches open up to reveal a silky, watercolor floral lining and the exterior features gorgeous leather accents. Don't waste your time — and this bag's Instagram potential — by checking it in; style it as part of your travel outfit, especially since the light-colored exterior may not stay pristine on the tarmac.

While this carry-on only has two wheels, we found it easy to maneuver; it does stand upright thanks to the two small legs opposite the wheels, but you need to pull it behind you as you go. Another thing to keep in mind is that while it measures 20 inches, it is pretty small on the inside, so you might find it hard to pack more than a few days’ worth of clothing. However, the classic rectangular trunk shape means you can maximize the internal storage space (as opposed to carry-ons with rounded corners).

Our team has tested more than 400 suitcases, assessing and gathering insights on a wide range of products. We first verify all bags’ dimensions and weight and then proceed with rigorous tests in our New York City lab and in our real-life travels to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of each option, including maneuverability over a wide range of terrain like carpet and gravel. We also carefully inspect all exterior and interior elements, such as wheels, pockets, handles, and zippers, and simulate real travel situations like drops and whacks.

We verify the storage capacity of each trunk by packing it with a set list of clothing, shoes, and toiletries; carry-on bags were assessed for a four-day trip while larger trunks were packed for journeys of a week (or more). In order to make our list, each trunk's features must work properly, including zippers that run without snags and handles that extend and retract smoothly. We built an airplane set to lift carry-on bags into overhead bins and roll them down aisles. We threw bags of all sizes off tables and hit them with baseball bats to test durability. Finally, we evaluate each bag's overall design and functionality and, only after coming to a conclusion about the strengths and weaknesses do we consider the value based on price. Our tests continue in the real-world for up to six months to make sure the bags can stand up to airports, trains, cars, and everything in between.

Tips for Buying a Travel Trunk

Choose the size and features that fit your needs.

Gone are the days when trunks were a fairly standard, rectangular box. Travelers have plenty of choices nowadays in terms of size, design, and shape. Both carry-on and checked options have features that render them functional for many occasions. The 70/30 or 80/20 design (where one side is bigger than the other) is perfect for transporting large, oddly shaped items. Clamshell trunks have a zipper down the middle, while some have classic latches for extra security. You can also opt for a trunk with a flap top to stack and secure your packing cubes inside. We love the style of vintage-inspired travel trunks, but before purchasing one, make sure they feature modern additions such as wheels, telescopic handles, and carrying handles for easy transportation.

Look for lightweight construction

While most domestic airlines don't have a weight limit on carry-on luggage, you must be mindful of the trunk's weight if you are traveling in Europe. For example, low-cost carriers such as RyanAir or WizzAir will allow for a 10-kilogram or 22-pound bag (versus a more standard 12-kilogram or 26-pound allowance). For checked bags, almost all airlines impose a 50-pound limit for travelers in economy class (business and first-class passengers are often allowed a greater weight allowance on checked bags).

Other than airline weight restrictions, the other reason to choose a lightweight piece is that you will have to haul it around and lift it, whether that’s into an overhead compartment or into a car. Heavier trunks are also much more difficult to wheel, especially on unpaved terrain.

Travel trunks come in carry-on and checked sizes, so you should pick one based on your needs and preferences. Carry-on trunks often come in 20- and 21-inch lengths (that includes the shell and the wheels), which fully adheres to most airlines' requirements. They typically range in weight from about seven to nine pounds. 

Larger trunks vary in dimensions, but the most common is 26 inches long. However, before you purchase a trunk to check in, consider its weight. Travel trunks tend to be heavier than regular suitcases because of their design and construction, so there’s a higher risk of being charged an overweight fee.

Travel trunks have been popular throughout history because of their design — one side is usually deeper than the other, making them ideal for transporting bulky or oddly shaped items. Trunks are often sturdier and more durable than regular checked luggage, which is also good news for those traveling with fragile and delicate items (like pottery, artwork, and camera or sports equipment).

Keeping your travel trunk clean will significantly extend its life. Vacuum the interior with a handheld vacuum, and then wipe it down with a wet cloth or treat any lining stains with a soapy solution. Some trunks have removable pockets or lining, so you can simply throw those in the washing machine. 

Many travel trunks have hard shells made from polycarbonate, so you can use the same cleaning products for standard luggage. Don't forget to disinfect it, too. (Clorox or Lysol wipes work best.) And finally, before storing it, let it dry completely, zip it up, cover it in a dust bag (or trash bag), and place it in a cool, dry spot. Avoid humid areas like attics or basements with no airflow.

Hey there my fellow travel enthusiasts and welcome to my post where we will check out my three best travel trunks to handle your bulky items as you move this year. Commonly known as “trunks,” these are large, robust containers historically used for transporting personal belongings during extended journeys or relocations.

riginating centuries ago, they gained significant popularity in the 19th and early 20th centuries, especially among travelers embarking on long voyages by ship or train. However as suitcvases have advanced, these options are now generally used for bulky items or if you are moving items for a longer period – such as students off to college etc.

So for those of you in the market for a good travel trunk, I have had a bit of look around and come up with three decent options below. Let’s check them out…

What are travel trunks?

Thinking of visiting Russia? When visiting such a famous city, one must, of course, visit the iconic landmarks first. Moscow has plenty of those, most of them in the center of the city, which is very well-planned for tourists. Once you’ve seen the sights that are on most travelers’ lists, it’s time to branch out and visit some of the lesser-known sites, and there are some fascinating places to see and things to do.

I know this list is long, but I just couldn’t help myself. You probably won’t have the time to see them all. But that’s okay. Just scroll through the list and choose what sounds the most interesting to you. Where possible, make sure to book in advance, as things can get crowded, especially during high season.

1. The Red Square, Kremlin, And Surroundings

Red Square (Krasnya Ploshad) is the heart and soul of Russia, and where much of the country’s history has unfolded. This is the most famous landmark in Moscow and indeed the whole country, it’s an absolute must-do! The square is always full of people and has a rather festive atmosphere!

Saint Basil’s Cathedral

This is the famous church with the rainbow-colored, onion-domed roof. The cathedral was commissioned in the 1500s by Ivan the Terrible and according to legend, the Tsar thought it was so beautiful, that he ordered that the architect’s eyes be cut out afterward, so he could never build anything more beautiful! He wasn’t called Ivan the Terrible for no reason!

Lenin’s Mausoleum

The “love-it-or-hate-it” of tourist attractions in Russia. A glass sarcophagus containing the embalmed body of Russian revolutionary, Vladimir Lenin. It may seem a bit bizarre to display the mummy of a person, but it has been there for almost half a century and the 2.5 million visitors who come each year, clearly feel the queuing and thorough body search are worth it, to be in Lenin’s presence.

Pro Tip: no photos and no loud talking are allowed inside the Mausoleum.

Eternal Flame

There is an Eternal Flame in honor of an unknown soldier on the left side of Red Square. The hourly changing of the guards is worth seeing.

The Kremlin is the official residence of the Russian president. You can see it from the outside, or you can take an excursion to one of the museums located inside. This is the biggest active fortress in Europe, and holds a week’s worth of attractions! Once behind the 7,332-feet of walls, there are five squares, four cathedrals, 20 towers, various museums, and the world’s largest bell and cannon to see. Worth a special mention is the Armory Chamber that houses a collection of the famous Faberge Eggs.

Pro Tip: You can only go inside the Kremlin if you are part of a tourist group.

2. Bolshoi Theatre

Bolshoi Theatre translates to “The Big Theatre” in Russian, and the building is home to both the Bolshoi Ballet and Bolshoi Opera — among the oldest and most famous ballet and opera companies in the world.

Pro Tip: It’s hard to get an inexpensive ticket, so if you’re reading well in advance of going to Moscow then try buying tickets on the official website . Last-minute tickets cost around $250 per person. If this is out of your budget, about an hour before a performance, you can try buying a ticket at the entrance from a reseller. Most can speak enough English to negotiate the price.

Tour the Bolshoi Theatre: You can take a group guided tour of the Bolshoi Theatre which focuses on the history and architecture of the theatre and behind the scenes. There’s an English language tour that lasts 2 hours and costs around $300 for a group of up to six.

3. Luxury Shopping At GUM And TSUM

Russia’s main department store, GUM, has a stunning interior that is home to over 100 high-end boutiques, selling a variety of brands: from luxurious Dior to the more affordable Zara. Even if shopping is not on your Moscow to-do list GUM is still worth a visit; the glass-roofed arcade faces Red Square and offers a variety of classy eateries. TSUM, one of the biggest luxury malls in town, is right behind the Bolshoi and GUM. It’s an imposing building with lots of history, and worth a visit just for its design and its glass roof.

4. Christ The Savior Cathedral

This is one of Russia’s most visited cathedrals and is a newer addition to the gorgeous array of Muscovite cathedrals, but don’t let its young age fool you. After perestroika, in the early 90s, the revived Russian Orthodox Church was given permission to build a cathedral on this site. It did the location honors and built the largest temple of the Christian Orthodox Church. The façade is as grand as you’d expect, but it’s the inside that will mesmerize you, with its domes, gold, gorgeous paintings, and decor!

The cathedral is located just a few hundred feet away from the Kremlin and was the site of the infamous Pussy Riot protest against Putin back in 2012.

Pro Tip: Bring a shawl to cover your hair as is the local custom.

5. Gorky Park

Moscow’s premier green space, Gorky Park (Park Gor’kogo) is the city’s biggest and most famous park. There is entertainment on offer here for every taste, from outdoor dancing sessions to yoga classes, volleyball, ping-pong, rollerblading, and bike and boat rental in summer. In winter, half the park turns into a huge ice skating rink. Gorky Park is also home to an open-air movie theater and the Garage Museum of Contemporary Art. There is also Muzeon Art Park, a dynamic contemporary space with a unique collection of 700 sculptures. It is located right in front of Gorky Park.

6. Sparrow Hills Park

If you take a walk from Gorky Park, along the Moscow River embankment, you’ll end up in the city’s other legendary park, Sparrow Hills. Although the park doesn’t offer as many activities as its hip neighbor, it has a great panoramic view of the city

Pro Tip: You can take a free walking tour to all of the above attractions with an English-speaking guide.

7. River Cruising

One of the best ways to experience Moscow, and see all the famous landmarks, but from a different angle, is from the Moscow River. Take a river cruise. Avoid the tourist crowds. There are little nameless old boats that do the cruise, but if you are looking for a more luxurious experience take the Radisson Blu cruise and enjoy the sights with some good food and a glass of wine.

8. Metro Hopping

Inaugurated in the 1930s, the Moscow Metro system is one of the oldest and most beautiful in the world. Started in Stalinist times, each station is a work of art in its own right. I’d recommend touring the stations between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. This way, you’ll be able to properly see it without the crowds. Ideally, I’d recommend taking a tour with a knowledgeable guide with GuruWalk, who will tell you stories of forgotten stations and how the history of the country is interconnected with the metro development. If going by yourself, then I definitely recommend checking out: Mayakovskaya, Ploschad Revolutsii, Kievskaya, Kropotkinskaya, Kurskaya, and Novoslobodskaya stations.

Visit the free Moscow Metro Museum: For real train enthusiasts, located in the southern vestibule of Sportivnaya station is a small free museum. Here you can take a peek into the driver’s cabin, see a collection of metro tokens from different cities, and see different models of a turnstile, traffic lights, escalator, and more.

9. Moscow State University View

In his effort to create a grander Moscow, Stalin had seven skyscrapers built in different parts of town; they’re called the Seven Sisters. The largest of these buildings and the one with the best view is the main building of the Moscow State University. Although this is a little outside the city center, the view is more than worth it.

10. Izmailovsky Market

Mostly known for the city’s largest flea market, the district of Izmaylovo is home to a maze of shops where you can get just about anything, from artisan crafts to traditional fur hats, handcrafted jewelry, fascinating Soviet memorabilia, and antiquities. It’s also one of Moscow’s largest green spaces. There are often no price tags, so be prepared to haggle a bit. Head to one of the market cafes for a warming mulled wine before continuing your shopping spree.

The History of Vodka Museum is found here, and the museum’s restaurant is the perfect place to sample various brands of the national drink.

Once you’ve covered the more touristy spots, Moscow still has plenty to offer, and the places below will also be full of locals! So for some local vibes, I would strongly recommend the spots below!

11. Moscow City

With a completely different vibe, Moscow City (also referred to as Moscow International Business Center) is like a mini Dubai, with lots of impressive tall glass buildings. Here is where you’ll find the best rooftops in towns, like Ruski Restaurant, the highest restaurant both in Moscow City and in Europe. Moscow City is great for crowd-free shopping and the best panoramic views of the city.

12. Tretyakov Gallery

Tretyakov Gallery started as the private collection of the Tretyakov brothers, who were 19th-century philanthropists. They gave their private collection to the government after their deaths. If there is just one museum you visit in Moscow, I recommend this one!

13. Tsaritsyno Museum-Reserve

Tsaritsyno was a residence of Catherine the Great more than two centuries ago. It became derelict during the Soviet era but has now been fully renovated. With its opulently decorated buildings, gardens, meadows, and forests, Tsaritsyno Park is the perfect place for a green respite in Moscow.

14. Kolomenskoye

A 10-minute metro ride from the city center is Kolomenskoe Museum-Reserve, where you can get an idea of what Russia looked like 200 years ago. You’ll find ancient churches (one dating back to the 16th century), the oldest garden in Moscow, and the wonderful fairytale wooden palace of Tsar Alexey Mikhailovich, father of Peter the Great.

15. Ostankino TV Tower

Built in 1967, Ostankino TV Tower was the tallest free-standing construction in the world at the time, it’s still the 8th tallest building in the world and the highest in Europe. It’s also the best observation deck, with a glass floor and 360-degree views. The speedy elevators take you 1,105 feet in next to no time.

Pro Tip: You need to book in advance; entrance is based on specific ticket times and the capacity is limited and only a certain number of tourists are allowed per day. Don’t forget your passport, you’ll need it to get through security.

16. Zaryadye Park

Zaryadye is a newly opened, landscaped urban park so new you won’t find it in a lot of tour guides. The park is near Red Square and is divided into four climatic zones: forest, steppe, tundra, and floodplains, depicting the variety of climatic zones in Russia.

These last three suggestions are a little quirky, but all are really worth checking out.

17. Museum Of Soviet Arcade Games

Release your inner child playing on 66 arcade machines from the Soviet era! What a great way to spend a couple of hours when tired of visiting museums and palaces. The staff speaks excellent English and are happy to explain how the games work.

18. Moscow Rooftop Tour

Take a 1-hour private Moscow rooftop tour with an experienced roofer. I can just about guarantee none of your friends will be able to say they’ve done it! For your comfort, I recommend wearing comfortable shoes. Take your camera, there are some amazing photo opportunities out there!

19. Sanduny Banya

This classical Russian bathhouse opened its doors in 1808 and is famous for combining traditional Russian banya services with luxurious interiors and service. If you enjoy spas and saunas, then you should experience a Russian bathhouse at least once in your life! Go with an open mind and hire a specialist to steam you as it’s meant to be done — by being beaten repeatedly with a besom (a leafy branch)! This is said to improve circulation, but is best done by a professional!

So there you have my list of things to do in Moscow. I could have gone on and on and on, but I didn’t want to try your patience! There are so many things to do in this vibrant city that you’ll definitely need to allocate several days for exploring.
