The Yulong River

The Yulong River, with its dramatic karst landscape, silky water, and ancient bridges, is a great place for bamboo rafting. Known as 'the Little Li River', it's a tributary of the Li.

• Chinese: 遇龙河 Yùlóng Hé /yoo-long her/ 'meeting dragon river'
• Popular activities: bamboo rafting, cycling, hiking, and photography
• Suited to: nature lovers, families with children, backpackers
• Time needed: 2–3 hours

Things to See Along the Yulong River

The essence of the Yulong River is between Yulong Bridge and Gongnong Bridge, about 13 kilometers (8 miles).

The landscape is decorated with toothy karst hills, thick bamboo groves, water buffaloes wandering the fields, farmers tending the rice paddies, fishermen gliding along on their narrow bamboo rafts, and village women washing clothes beside the river, kids swimming in the water…

Delight in the idyllic scenes of simple rural life, and a few small villages with old buildings set among hillside greenery.

Yulong River Bamboo Rafting

The most popular way to enjoy the scenery of the Yulong River is to take a bamboo raft. Even if you have experienced a cruise or rafting on the Li River, you should not miss this smaller, quainter river.

There are two raft routes: 40–50 minutes and 1½ hours. For the shorter rafting, we can arrange your raft route for boarding at the closest pier to your hotel.

The raft company doesn't allow people over 70 or under 7 years old to take a bamboo raft. But don't worry: we can arrange other ways for you or small kids to explore the Yulong River countryside apart from bamboo rafting.

Yulong River Rafting vs Li River Rafting

The rafts on the Li River are driven by noisy motors. Bamboo rafts on the Yulong River are punted slowly by a man with a pole, for an altogether quieter experience. The rafts just float down the river and can pause in any place you want.

The mountains along the Yulong River may be not as impressive as the ones along the Li River, but the river is much quieter and more rustic. You can sit back and soak up the idyllic scenery in an air of serenity.

Yulong River Cycling

The Yulong River is part of a classic cycling route in Yangshuo. In a 2–4-hour biking tour, you will be rewarded by beautiful scenery combining karst hills, green water, and ancient villages.

Hiking — Get Close to Nature

The most in-touch-with-nature way to appreciate the beauty of the Yulong River is hiking.

The small countryside trails will take you through rice paddies, lush green mountain scenery, and fruit orchards. The most popular section is from Yulong Bridge to Jiuxian Pier, about 6 kilometers (4 miles). It takes about 2 hours.

The Best Times to Enjoy the Yulong River

The high season for visiting the Yulong River is from April to October when the weather is mostly sunny and warm and suitable for outdoor activities.

The best time is probably late summer for pleasant warmth and less rain, though the mists and fresh growth in spring also have their charm.

Rain increases to torrential downpours on some days up until the beginning of June, and decreases from then on. The occasional thunder showers in August usually dry up in an hour or so. On some days, particularly in May and June the Yulong may be flowing too fast and high for rafting to be as enjoyable or safe.

During Chinese public holidays, such as Labor Day week (May 1 to 3) and National Day week (October 1 to 7), Yangshuo is always crowded with Chinese people . School holidays in July and August are also a crowded time in Yangshuo.

Our guides use their expert knowledge to avoid the crowds and find routes with fewer travelers. We arrange rafting, cycling etc. for times when the huge crowds have left or are yet to arrive, so that you are not stuck in traffic or lines.

Locations of Docks & How to Get There

All those docks used for Yulong River bamboo rafting are not far away from Yangshuo West Street, which can be arrived by biking, or local sightseeing bus. Please check the detailed info of their location and transportation.

Jima Dock (骥马码头): About 15-20 minutes driving from West Street; 35 minutes biking from West Street;

Shuiedi Dock (水厄底码头): Drive about 15-20 minutes to Jima and take Sightseeing Bus Line A to Shuiedi for about 10 minutes; or bike from West Street for about 45 minutes;

Gongnong Bridge Dock (工农桥码头): Take Ten-mile Gallery Sightseeing Bus to Fengming Tourist Service Center and transfer to Yangshuo Bus No 801 to West Street for about 1 hour; or bike to West Street for about 35 minutes;

Jinlong Bridge Dock (金龙桥码头): Bike from West Street for about 1 hour;

Jiuxian County Dock (旧县码头): Drive from West Street for about 30 minutes; or bike from West Street for about 35 minutes.

Li River Bamboo Rafting

Compared to the classic Li River cruise , Li River bamboo rafting experience is more of fun, joy and excitement . It not only enables you to savor the picturesque landscape of the best part of Li River and surrounded rising hills at a largely different angle of view, but also presents you time for interacting with the loved water and the local featured rafts. Xingping Dock Location & How to Get There

Xingping Dock (兴坪码头) is located at No.5 Dahebei, Xingping Town, Yangshuo County, Guilin (桂林市阳朔县兴坪镇大河背5号). It is at the old town area, so you can walk there from the old town main streets within 10 minutes. Furthermore, if you leave from Guilin , it takes about 2 hours by car. And if you go from Yangshuo, it needs 1 hour by car.

1. Yulong River bamboo raft can hold only 2 passengers every time. Children less than 1 meter and elders more than 70 years old are not allowed to take the bamboo rafts.

2. Li River bamboo raft can hold 4 passengers every time. Children less than 1.2 meters and 7 years old and elders more than 70 years old are not allowed to take the bamboo rafts.

3. There may be no bamboo rafts available sailing Xingping - Yangdi - Xingping, especially during peak seasons.

4. As Li River bamboo rafts go forth and back along the same route, if you want to experience only upstream to see the view once, you can tell both us and the boatman, and he will dock at the other end ferry like Nine Horse Fresco Hill or Yangdi, and then our local guide and driver will meet you to take you to your next scenic area (bamboo rafting fee remains unchanged).

5. Protect your personal belongs including mobile phones, cameras and other electric devices from falling into the river or getting wet.

6. Lift your feet when passing the weirs to protect your shoes from getting wet. You are suggested to prepare some clothes to change.

How to Plan Your Yangshuo Bamboo Rafting Experience Tour

Bamboo rafting is one of the must-do in Yangshuo for the enjoyment of sightseeing and fun. Usually, most people choose to take the Li River cruise from Guilin down to Yangshuo and spend at least 2 days to experience the idyllic Karst landscape and countryside view, during the time there, you can experience Yulong bamboo rafting at any time during the day. Among the three most popular routes of Yulong River bamboo rafting, Shuiedi to Gongnong Bridge route is chosen by most guests for the most stunning view and not so long time to spend during their short time in Yangshuo, if you got more time and want to enjoy more natural view of the river in leisure, you can select to sail from Jima to Gongnong Bridge. However, Jinlong Bridge to Jiuxian County route offers wider river scenery with more countryside view for your enjoyment. Hells Canyon

Hells Canyon is the deepest canyon in North America, and is filled with thrilling whitewater, arguably some of the biggest rapids in the Pacific Northwest.

Main Salmon

Pe scurt despre călătoria spre Iași. Am plecat la ora 5 dimineața, am plecat repede, am ajuns fără probleme, și eu am trecut repede. După ce a ajuns la destinație, totul era ca de obicei. Am plecat în același timp fără întârziere. Conducătorul de bord a fost foarte frumos și plăcut, la fel și șoferul. Îi sfătuiesc pe toți călătoria asta să nu-l regrete
