Safari Quad Bike Trails

Safari Quad Bike Trails on the slopes of the Witwatersberg mountain range overlooking the Cradle of Humankind. The quad trails are located on a 650 hectare game farm, Segwati Getaways Ranch, Hartbeeshoek. You can combine your quad biking trip with a picnic, a braai, some game viewing or bird watching and other outdoor events. Kids have to be over 13 years old to go quad biking. Segwati also has cottages and a bush camp for a quad biking weekend away.

Safari Quad Bike Trails & Other Activities:

• Safari Quad Bike Trails: Unique quad biking experience, unforgettable game viewing. Fully automatic and sturdy trail quads. Friendly, experienced guides. Trails Offered – 1 Hour – 1 ½ Hour – 2 Hour. Please Note: All trails are booked for specific times, so please ensure that you familiarize yourself with the directions and arrive on time (see Booking form)
• Hiking, Birding, Mountain Biking: We offer self-guided hikes. Popular destination for hiking and birding clubs. We offer MTB trails, but prefer to limit the number of riders for the sake of the wildlife. Bush Paintball Warfare or Target Shooting: A much more tactical approach, where camouflage and strategy plays a bigger roll.
• Outdoor Events: Moonlight walks combined with a picnic and live acoustic music, trail runs, adventure challenges, and more.
• Eco 4×4 Driver Training: Short, comprehensive 4×4 driver training course covering all the basic principles of driving a 4×4.

Safari Quad Bike Trails Accommodation – Nyala Bush Camp:

• Ideal for group accommodation.
• Central boma fire place with 10 wooden cabins circling the boma.
• An outdoor kitchen area with all kitchen amenities.
• Male and female ablutions are set behind the kitchen.
• A dining room that can be used in case of rain.
• Nyala Bush Camp caters for groups of a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 32, the beds are all bunk beds with 6 cabins being 4 sleepers and 4 cabins are 2 sleepers.
• Electricity in all the cabins, ablutions and dining room.
• We have opened Nyala Bush Camp as Backpackers Accommodation from a Monday to a Thursday.

About Safari Quad Bike Trails

Seeing the world-renowned Cradle of Humankind , just outside Johannesburg (in the province of Gauteng), is an unforgettable experience that will be treasured by tourists from all over the world. Of course, it is even more fun when being tackled on safari quad bikes with the team of professional funsters of Segwati in Hartbeespoort Dam .

These trails are in a game farm that is part of the northern boundary of the Cradle, which is recognised as a World Heritage Site. All of the Segwati tours are conducted on safari quads, which are larger than usual quad bikes, but are also known for being easy to ride and control. However, guides do a full safety briefing beforehand to ensure that all of the riders are safe and able to get the most from their experience.

The Segwati Safari Quad Trails take visitors up the Witwaterberg Mountains, at the top of which views of the magnificent Magaliesberg and the valleys are nothing short of breath-taking. The trail is easy enough for anyone to manage, even those with little or no quad biking experience.

The magical allure of the area is coupled with a professional and efficient approach to ensuring that visitors of Segwati have the best possible experience. This is an idyllic escape from the non-stop buzz of city living, and an immersion into the tranquil beauty and abundance of the South African countryside.

Thanks to the natural proliferation of fauna and flora, quad bikers can keep an eye out for wildlife as they negotiate the countryside on their bikes. This wildlife includes an impressive collection of bird species. The picnic and braai area and the old reservoir that is filled with cool water make for the perfect places to relax, cool off and take a break from the “real world” with the Segwati team.

Segwati Safari Quad Bike Trails are just some of the family-friendly nature encounters to try over weekends. The adventure destination is located in Hartbeespoort, just 40 minutes from Johannesburg and Pretoria. A range of outdoor experiences is on offer. 

QUAD BIKING

Segwati’s quad biking experience comes with an extra layer of adventure and unforgettable game viewing. Explore the 650-hectare game farm with a trail that leads up the Witwatersberg mountains and offers sweeping scenery of the ‘Cradle of Humankind’ world heritage site to the South and the Magaliesberg valley and mountain range to the North.

All trails are guided with a maximum of 8 riders per trip, Eco friendly, and can be classified as mini safaris. Keep the quad bike trails in mind for your next group, team-building, and corporate outing. Children under the age of 13yrs are lifted and are charged half-price.

Visitors must arrive 30 minutes before the trail tour for a demo of how the quad bikes operate.

HIKING & PICNIC VENUE

Make the most of your visit to the farm with a walk while taking in quiet nature scenes. The rich wildlife and views keep the hiking trail at Segwati Safari Quad Bike Trails interesting. Keep an eye out for animals such as baboons, snakes, mongooses, otters, and a variety of interesting birdlife, including the Hornbill on your walk. The loop trail route range from 5km to 18km, and is generally considered an easy route that takes an average of over 2hrs to complete. 

Visitors can also take their own picnics to enjoy before or after the quad biking and hike. Advance booking to reserve picnic space at the venue is essential.

Voets Toets Hiking ventured out on a very chilly winters morning to join the fun and camaraderie with fellow hiker's on the Segwati challenge at Segwati Safari Quad Bike Trails

A hiking stick and adequate hydration are a must!

There was a 10km, 15km and 20km hiking trail on offer, with each route ending with a well deserved medal The route took us on vast and far ending areas of the farm land. It was a challenging trail, with parts that had moderate elevations and descents. It had sections that were quite rocky, so good footing was essential. The beautiful winters morning with a clear blue sky allowed us the wonderful opportunity to see far and wide over the area. The landscape was mountainous with a vast range of trees and grassy lands. The birds and wildlife we saw was truly a treat.  We were also greeted by a tortoise en route, which was a cute surprise. There were several dams located over the land with a traditional farm windmill catching our eye.

Field Notes:

Our merrell footwear once again provided us with the comfort and stability needed for this trail. the rocks on the descent were no challenge for our feet a hiking stick and adequate hydration and snacks are a must even though it was a chilly winters day, hydration was still essential..

The trail was easy to intermediate, based on the trail having flat sections of farm road which were easy to navigate, and then more challenging areas of ascends and descends.  There was a fairly sized group of hikers, which is always a bonus when you consider safety on trails. The venue offered hungry and thirsty hikers, much needed food and hot coffee to get the joints warmed up and energy levels up! Nothing like a breakfast bun to get a hiker going.  The venue also had braai facilities available should you want to enjoy a traditional South African braai or potjie after your hike. The Segwati challenge was a great day out, allowing us the wonderful opportunity to share the South African landscape and the company of good people! Nyala Bush Camp is set in a natural basin deep in the farm and is ideal for group accommodation, although it was originally designed as a hikers camp – it has become very popular with all groups looking for a bush experience.

Nyala Bush Camp has a central boma fire place with 10 wooden cabins circling the boma, an outdoor kitchen area with all kitchen amenities. Male and female ablutions are set behind the kitchen and there is a dining room that can be used in the case of rain. Nyala Bush Camp caters for groups of a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 32, the beds are all bunk beds with 6 cabins being 4 sleepers and 4 cabins are 2 sleepers. There is electricity in all the cabins, ablutions and dining room.

In keeping that Segwati is a Nature Reserve/Game farm, our aim is to cater for people who enjoy and respect the natural beauty of nature and therefore have to lay down some basic rules and regulations so that everyone on the farm can enjoy the tranquility of the place (please email for further information)

We have opened Nyala Bush Camp as back packers accommodation from a Monday to a Thursday, giving overseas tourists travelling on a budget the opportunity of enjoying a truly African Wildlife experience.  Situated between the Hartebeespoort Dam and the Maropeng and located in the “Cradle of Mankind” world heritage site, Segwati Getaways/Ranch is ideally positioned as a base to explore the numerous tourist attractions in the area whilst staying on a 650 hectare Game Farm.

School Holiday Camps

The aim of our school holiday camps is to provide the children with a safe, fun and adventure filled holiday break, an opportunity to grow and experience new things that they will not normally get the chance of experiencing and an experience that leaves a positive lasting impression.

As parents ourselves, we understand the concerns that parents face – and that each child is an individual with their own individual needs and limitations, the idea is to build confidence in each child and to do this we will have to push their personal boundaries a bit and take them out of their comfort zones. This will only be done where the outcome will be a positive one and allows that individual child to grow and thereby gain confidence in their own ability.

We take a maximum of 24 children per camp which are divided into groups of 8, each group will have their own group leader who will take personal care of them. Please note that the use of cell phones will be limited to an hour every second evening.
