'Golden Bachelor' Episode 6 recap: Gerry Turner finds love, more pain from three hometowns

the bachelor home visits 2023

Love has officially broken out on "The Golden Bachelor," and it's a raging three-headed beast. Before Thursday's episode, widower Gerry Turner , 72, took great pains to avoid saying "I love you" to the steady drumbeat of love directed at him. He had his reasons: "I only want to say 'I love you' to one more person in my lifetime," he explains in Episode 6.

Yet during his three hometown week visits, Gerry finally unleashed the "love" word. Not just once, but about (or to) all three remaining contestants — Theresa, 70; Faith, 61; and Leslie, 64.

This outpouring culminated in the most painful rose ceremony for guilt-consumed Gerry, who broke down before making the final choice over who would stay and who would go home.

The distraught Gerry even bolted from the Bachelor Mansion ceremony room rather than choose, sending one camera crew scurrying after him like it was TMZ at an airport. What happened?

What happened in 'Episode 5'? 'Golden Bachelor' recap as Gerry Turner, reluctant heartbreaker, picks his final 3

Theresa's hometown visit, like the others, featured Gerry meeting the grandkids

We get it, Gerry. Bachelor Nation hometown weeks and family meets are emotionally loaded enough when the contestants are in their 20s and 30s. But in this case, the three visits included concerned daughters and sons worried about their mothers' hearts. And grandkids.

During the packed meeting with Theresa's close-knit family in Shrewsbury, New Jersey, one of her cherubic grandsons adorably blurts out, "I just think you should be the new Pop Pop for us." Those sentiments should be a needle-screech TV moment, considering "new Pop Pop" might never be back. But the YouTube-ready scene earned laughs from the assembled group.

"It doesn't feel that weird, for some reason," Theresa's daughter Jen says to the camera later, wiping away tears. There was real emotion and concern etched on her face over her mother. Powerful stuff. But the sensitive Gerry tried not to let the rush of real sentiments in the artificial environment consume him. Being the star of a reality dating show means exploring strong feelings, sealing them up inside and moving on to two more hometowns, and two other families.

Theresa ended the evening professing her love to Gerry on a carnival ride, just as she did only last week. Gerry returned the sentiments afterward, but only to the camera.

"I've fallen in love again," Gerry says. "I'm in love with Theresa."

Gerry promised Faith's big sister that he'd protect her heart

Next stop was rural Benton City, Washington, for the visit with radio host Faith, who rides her horse to the local grocery store. Faith instructs novice Gerry on basic horseback techniques, which ended in a short ride. Gerry ends it with the mandatory horseback-to-horseback kiss moment. The trickier-than-it-looks lip lock was successful, but Kevin Costner need not worry about Gerry taking his "Yellowstone" saddle perch .

Meeting with Faith's family ‒ especially her protective older sister, Beth ‒ brings Gerry's emotions to the next level. "I love that you've made her feel safe," Beth tearfully tells Gerry. "I hope you take that very, very seriously."

There were no verbal gymnastics around that. "I am and I will," Gerry responds.

Gerry and Faith's mutually whispered "I love you" moment and movie kiss follows shortly thereafter, regrettably in front of the entire seated family. But as the squirming grandkids will attest in future therapy sessions, that kiss had passion.

Gerry howled with delight after telling Leslie he loves her, drops 'future wife' term

Onward to Minneapolis, where "full-on conflicted" Gerry perfects the art of dealing with a potential new family on a reality dating show. The conversation feels more informed, more clear of the odd rules at play. And it all takes place in the downtown social club, Brick X Mortar , which is stunning but lacks the emotion of a real home.

Stuart, Leslie's older brother and father figure, is the Big Gerry Get: He's the family member voicing the most pointed Gerry objections.

"I think it's very strange talking to a guy who is dating my sister, and also dating two others," Stuart says during their moment together.

"Believe it or not, it feels strange to me, too," Gerry responds, before talking of the burden of causing "severely hurt feelings."

Stuart understands and passes on a highly conditional, carefully worded blessing for any possible Leslie-Gerry union. Gerry is so elated he uses the term "future wife" when ruminating on Leslie possibilities to the camera.

His "I love you" speech and final kiss with Leslie is a rom-com perfect moment on a Minneapolis street (and grandkid-free, thank you!). There are many streetside "I love you's," as the dam just broke. Gerry signals his joy with a whoop to the sky.

Who received a rose? Why no one went home on 'Golden Bachelor'

If you didn't understand Gerry's conflicted end-of-week feelings, there's great camera work to help. The Scorsese-style SUV backseat shot of Gerry's perturbed face, seen only through the fleeting, passing street lights, sums it up. That visage screams dread over the looming rose drama.

Looking spent before the ceremony, the unshaven Gerry is able to hand out one red rose to Leslie. Then it's Runaway Golden Bachelor, as Gerry exits and emphatically breaks his no-cursing rule (which is bleeped). With hands on his knees, he discusses throwing up over the gut-wrenching decision.

Gerry utters one more curse before host Jesse Palmer's voiceover interrupts with details of next week's "Golden Bachelor."

Holy Han Solo In carbonite! ABC is making audiences wait another week to reveal Gerry's eventual decision over the still-standing roseless duo of Theresa and Faith. Which of them receives the final rose? And who goes home? We'll find out next week.

The ‘Bachelor’ Recap: Dendrophilia, Delis, and Heartbreak at the Hometowns

Zach crosses the country visiting the hometowns of his final four girlfriends—and maybe, for the first time, realizes that they have to pick him just as much as he gets to pick them

the bachelor home visits 2023

It’s time for Hometowns, the point in every Bachelor season when shit starts getting real: Families and feelings are involved now. The lead and his final four women have broken free of the Bachelor bubble. Hard questions are coming, typically from overprotective fathers. And, of course, there’s the precedent, built over seasons of seasons of TV, that the lead’s girlfriends will tell him they’ve fallen in love with him.

But not this season. We’re an episode away from Fantasy Suites—or, as Zach describes it in the preview for next week, “the sex date”—and the closest we get to the L word in the Hometowns episode is “the idea” of “falling” “in love.” That’s what Charity tells Zach she’s starting to feel, and what Zach tells Kaity’s mom, Anne, he could see happening with her daughter. That’s Level 3 on The Bachelor ’s declarations of love scale , just below “I’m falling in love with you” but still a pretty long way away from “I love you.”

Honestly, though, it’s refreshing to have reached this point in what has been a very formulaic Bachelor season without any unrealistic sweeping declarations of love, and to have made it through an entire Hometowns episode without the Bachelor asking a father for a marriage blessing. Instead, on each of the four hometown dates, from rural Vermont to New York City to southern Georgia to Austin, Texas, it’s like there’s an understanding that there’s a flaw in this show’s very premise—that it’s not simply the Bachelor choosing which lady he’d like to marry, or at least which lady he’d like to be featured in a People magazine photo spread with before they split up six months from now. Finally, everyone seems to be acknowledging the truth: that these women are actually choosing whether they’d like to be with the Bachelor, too.

Least Satisfying Edit: Zach and the Maple Tree

From the moment that Gabi forced Zach to take a shot of maple syrup upon her entrance from the limo back in the season premiere, we could have predicted that maple syrup would feature prominently in her hometown date in Pittsford, Vermont. Indeed, this date is some sort of New England fall fever dream: We see Zach and Gabi clad in flannel, frolicking in crunchy yellow leaves that cover the forest floor, as Gabi promises to give Zach “a full maple experience.” This means tapping a maple tree with a handheld drill and trying to extract raw sap. And this is where it gets, well, weird.

There’s a lot of TV out there. We want to help: Every week, we’ll tell you the best and most urgent shows to stream so you can stay on top of the ever-expanding heap of Peak TV.

Gabi alleges that tapping a maple tree was one of her favorite childhood activities, but it doesn’t take a ton of effort for producers to turn tapping a maple tree into a metaphor for tapping … something else. Surprising no one, Bachelor editors cue up the soundtrack from a ’70s porno as Zach and Gabi trade innuendos, and then the camera zooms in on a shot of what can only be described as Zach finger banging a tree hole.

“Is it sticky in there?” Gabi asks.

“It does feel kind of warm,” Zach answers.

the bachelor home visits 2023

Ultimately, Zach and Gabi discover that they didn’t drill deep enough, and they fail to finish extracting any syrup. Here’s hoping that isn’t also a metaphor.

Most Gastrointestinal Trauma: Zach and Ariel’s NYC Date

Ariel introduces Zach to her parents, brother, and sister-in-law on her hometown date. But before we get there (and we will, in a minute), she tells Zach that she has another family member he needs to meet: New York City. And by New York City, she really means New York cuisine. Their daytime date, which starts in Washington Square Park, is quite the gastrointestinal adventure. First, they visit a pizza parlor for a giant slice of pepperoni pizza (“Oh my God, carbs are so good,” Zach says) and then a traditional Jewish deli for sandwiches—pastrami for Ariel and beef tongue for Zach (“I’m a fan of the tongue,” he says, proving he didn’t leave the sexual innuendos in Vermont)—and gefilte fish. (Sidenote, but when choosing which deli to bring Zach to, why didn’t Ariel pick Katz’s? It’s the When Harry Met Sally deli! Zach could’ve said, “I’ll have what she’s having”!) Finally, Ariel leads Zach into a coffee shop that’s not a coffee shop at all, but the secret door to a speakeasy, where they toast with espresso martinis.

the bachelor home visits 2023

We’ve all tried to do an NYC food tour before … and we’ve all come to the bitter realization that there are limits to what the human body can take. It’s no wonder that by the time they make it to the evening portion of the date—at a Brooklyn winery—Zach looks like he’s about to die.

Best Worst Date: Errands in Austin

One of the biggest problems with this entire franchise is that it expects the lead to pick a partner while essentially dating in a fantasy world—helicopter rides and hot tubs in the woods and horse-drawn carriages and sleepovers at museums. Even the hometown dates, the only time when we’re supposed to get a sense of what normal life might be like, feel extraordinary. That’s what made Kaity and Zach’s date in their shared hometown of Austin so unusual. There was no pretense that Kaity had to show Zach around—if anything, Zach should have been the tour guide, since Kaity tells us she had lived in Austin for only a few weeks before she left for filming.

That’s why her house is basically empty and she needs Zach’s help settling in. What follows is the realest shit I’ve seen in 27 seasons of The Bachelor : After they go grocery shopping at a bougie market, Kaity enlists Zach to carry a mattress and build furniture—FROM IKEA—and somehow, they still want to make out with each other when they finish.

the bachelor home visits 2023

No one in the history of relationships has ever smiled at their partner while attempting to assemble an IKEA bookshelf. I was already pretty convinced before this episode that Zach would pick Kaity at the end of this. Now I’m sure of it.

Best Interviewer: Ariel’s Brother, Bobby

Older siblings truly did the emotional heavy lifting this week, and none handled the task better than Ariel’s brother, Bobby, who made it pretty clear that he thinks that both Zach and this entire show are full of shit. “Calling myself a skeptic and saying this is unorthodox is an understatement,” Bobby says as soon as he and Zach sit down for a one-on-one conversation.

He doesn’t let up. Bobby asks Zach whether he knows Ariel’s middle name or her birthday. (Zach doesn’t.) He reminds Zach that Ariel needs to pick him and asks why she should. (Zach is stumped … he mumbles through an answer about having an open heart before finally setting on “I’m a good cook,” which I’m pretty sure we can all agree is a lie.) Finally, Bobby asks Zach how he’ll reconcile the fact that he and Ariel come from very different backgrounds. Her parents escaped religious persecution in the Soviet Union, and Judaism is a core part of Ariel’s life. Zach, meanwhile, has spoken very little about his own faith—and didn’t even include it among his favorite f words on the first night, when he told the women he loved “family, football, and frozen pizza.” (See: I knew the “good cook” thing was a lie.) Ominous music plays as Zach tries to come up with a satisfactory answer, though all he can manage is “Families will make it work. That’s how I see it.”

Families of future contestants on this show can learn a lot from Bobby’s delivery: He was blunt and to the point, and he didn’t let Zach off the hook. Asking the lead whether he even knows one of his girlfriends’ birthdays is so cutting and effective in its simplicity. Zach wasn’t scared away by Bobby, but we’ll have to see whether the questions Bobby raised ultimately become an issue in his relationship with Ariel.

Best Edit: Charity

Before Charity and Zach even arrive to meet her family in Columbus, Georgia, we know it’ll be an emotional day. Charity’s family—her parents, two brothers, and sister—along with a bunch of friends, sit around a long table discussing Charity’s past heartbreak. They recall how devastated she was after her last breakup and how hard it was on all of them to see her so heartbroken, and they discuss how difficult it would be to see her go through that experience again. (You’ll recall that last week the magician-slash-mentalist, likely with an assist from a Bachelor producer, got Charity to reveal that her biggest relationship fear is infidelity.)

So no one should be surprised that Charity spends basically this entire episode in tears. “I’m really happy,” she tells her girlfriends. “I hope you guys can see that.” (It is unclear whether they can see that.)

The family portion of the date reaches its emotional peak in Charity’s one-on-one time with her brother Nehemiah, who breaks down in tears himself when he tells her he wasn’t sure she would be OK after her last breakup. She tries to reassure her brother by explaining that Zach is “emotionally intelligent” and “confident in who he is.” (It is unclear whether he is either of those things.)

Later, after some intimate slow dancing at a country bar, Charity tells Zach that “it’s safe to say I’m falling in love.” He responds with a quick kiss and a hug and the five words every girl wants to hear: “Wild, I know, it’s crazy.”

We can all see where this is headed, right? Yep, Zach sends Charity home at the rose ceremony. As he walks her out, he tells her that he’s felt sick to his stomach all day and came to his decision only a short time before handing out the roses, and that he “might be making a mistake.” He tells her he’s “grateful to know her” and then delivers the real gut punch: “You deserve all the love, and I couldn’t give it to you.”

Charity repeats those words from the back seat of the limo as she’s driven away. “I don’t know what that freaking means,” she says, wiping a river of tears from her eyes.

But I do: You’re going to be the Bachelorette.

The Bachelor spoilers: Who makes it to the hometown dates in 2023?

By alexandria ingham | jan 31, 2023.

THE BACHELOR - ABCÕs ÒThe BachelorÓ stars Zach Shallcross. (ABC/Nino Mu–oz)

Four will make it to the hometown dates in The Bachelor Season 27. Which four lucky women will get to that point? Here are The Bachelor spoilers for this part of the season.

As much as we love to watch the drama play out, we also like to know if Zach will see through some of those there for the wrong reasons. That means looking out for  The Bachelor spoilers .

The new season has certainly already brought a little bit of drama. Not all of it has been shown on screen, which is why we love  Reality Steve . He gives us an idea of what’s going on behind the scenes. He also gives us an idea of what to expect in each episode, including who will go home.

We’re jumping ahead to the hometown dates. Four women will get to this stage. Who will they be?

The Bachelor spoilers: Which four women will get hometown dates?

We’re going to see multiple women eliminated for a few of the weeks. The hometown dates will take place during Week 8, and we’ll see seven go down to four in the previous week while in Europe.

The four women getting hometown dates are:

  • Gabi Elnicki
  • Ariel Frenkel
  • Charity Lawson
  • Kaity Biggar

Zach went on the hometown dates in that order, too. He’ll go from Vermont to New York, to Columbus, and then to Austin.

This is a chance for Zach to get to see his potential bride in her own element. He’ll meet family and friends. This is a great chance to see if Zach can see himself in the family as we all come as a package, even if we do end up living in a completely different part of the world.

Charity is the one who won’t get a rose according to Reality Steve’s spoilers. He only has up to the Final 3 at this point. Who could make it to the end?

Next. Do Zach and Christina get together in The Bachelor?. dark

The women of The Golden Bachelor were as surprised as we were that Gerry is only picking three of them for hometown dates this season.

Normally on The Bachelor and The Bachelorette , the star chooses four of their remaining contenders for hometown dates, flying to visit them in their hometowns and meet their families. But in this Thursday’s episode, host Jesse Palmer informed the six remaining ladies that only three of them would make it through to hometowns. So why the change?

That format tweak spelled heartbreak for Ellen, who seemed like a top contender for Gerry’s heart but was sent home last night along with Sandra and Susan. ( Check out our full recap here for all the details .) Gerry will join his three remaining women — Leslie, Faith and Theresa — for hometown dates in next Thursday’s episode (ABC, 8/7c).

Are you wishing The Golden Bachelor got an extended edition so it could include four hometown dates? And who’s your pick to win Gerry’s heart? Join us in the comments to share your thoughts.

1. They could’ve made the episode(s) longer. 2. They could’ve bothered to make the filming schedule for this longer than a month. Even if just 6 weeks.

I know this was an experiment for the network and they didn’t know how it would be received, but from what I can tell people are really enjoying it. It’s a nice break from the wash, rinse, repeat melodrama from the regular “younger” franchise. This one is actually entertaining and sweet, a lot less toxic.

1. No, they could have not. It is set in stone. 2. No, they could have not.

That’s not how TV works.

Being a widow twice I feel everyone’s pain.i do enjoy the show except it does hurt my heart..I wish it was me but my honey died on our Christmas vacation and I was all alone and still.11 yrs later it hurts but when you had the best …no need to look

Wish it was a two hour show! Needless to say being in that age bracket, and a widow I love seeing these women vying for a second chance at love. My pick for Gerry would be Faith. Seems like a perfect match. She’s totally herself with no pretenses. Hope she’s the one.

I think it will wind up being 2 hrs as it stays on the network, & you’re right, it is fun watching these ladies, except for the ‘teenage drama’ which was boldly displayed by Kathy, thank God she’s gone-i have strong feelings about Gerry & Faith as well-Faith is so much fun, I actually know her (a little bit😉) she’s a DJ @ my husband’s & my favorite radio station right here in our hometown, we’ve seen her perform with her band The Shades & a couple times solo, which is what she does now-you would love her😁 I’m really hoping they get the hookup, they make the perfect pair & she could serenade him day & night

Sure! However this show has found my girlfriends and myself (Golden Bachelor age appropriate) glued to the TV!

We totally related to this program. We “middle-age” women have a great deal to offer. Along our journeys we have gained wisdom; many, many experiences and we share those “dirty little” secrets (LOL) most of which we will take to the grave with us!

Gerry is so authentic, a true gentleman, very respectful and a lot of fun! He is going to be a tough act to follow! But we’re looking forward to the next season!

This show gives middle-aged (active and interesting) woman a ray of hope! Great job!

I hate that they cut Golden Bachelor to 1 hr! These women are so truly invested in finding love, as is Gerry. He deserves more time to make these decisions, more one on ones, and 4 hometowns!!

Now I can get on with my life! 🤣

I feel like they cut the show short I thought they would be going out of town more

Bring back the lady that had to leave early due to her daughter having complications after child birth. They looked like they had a good connection. Maybe they could surprise us all and have a pre arranged visit as the fourth pick. SURPRISE! I am ok with the 3 picks instead of 4. I won’t drag out. Love love love Golden Bachelor. Please bring it back.

Right from the get go, my pick was Faith.

I Loved the Golden Bachelor. No, I would NEVER pick Ellen!! I thought Faith or Leslie perfect!!! NOT THERESA .Tooooo PHONY !

You would love her, she’s everything you see on the TV for real, no baloney, no fake feelings or fake anything for that matter, she has horses too, which I bet Gerry will love

Absolutely should have given four home dates. People sacrificed a lot to be there. That home date could have been a game changer. Meeting families is a huge insight to help picking the right partner.

I hope Gerry is smart enough not to choose Theresa. She’s the worst! I can’t imagine his daughters and granddaughters would approve of that choice.

He is a grown man and doesn’t “need” his family’s approval if she’s the one he wants.

Gerry should pick Faith! They seem to make the best match. Theresa is just too pushy! Her low self esteem Acts as if she’s better than.. unattractive! Penny

I don’t understand this. She’s an absolute sweetheart!

Me too! At the beginning, I thought she was kind of cute & I thought she was sweet.. I Noticed that 1st night that she was the one that walked over and handed Gerry a drink the moment he walked into the room! I thought she would be nurturing to him and his grandchildren. But as time went on, I thought she was too needy! I couldn’t stand Kathy (or April) But I honestly think Theresa was tltalking more about her times with Gerry once she knew Kathy was bothered by it which was pretty mean and tacky. In the previews I see for tomorrow night, 1 of her grandsons, tells Gerry he should be there, Papa!! I feel that Theresa probably prompted him to do that before Gerry met them!! I think she is manipulative.. I like both Leslie and Faith but feel like maybe Faith is the best one for him So far, but depends upon how things go with family..

I love the show. I definitely think that we’ve been short changed with it being only one hour format. I feel like the entire show has been compromised because it’s only showing a very rushed one hour episode. Why was it done this way? There’s also no real travel involved in the show either the way the bachelor and the bachelorette normally has done in the past. I hope this comes back that it comes back in a longer format.

One hour is way too short! BIP should be cut to one hour and the Golden Bachelor should’ve gotten two hours. Definitely they need a fourth hometown date. The show was just too short! Very disappointing!

I hate the Bachelor products and never watch them. I started to watch the Golden Bachelor because I’m a mature adult, and the idea of seeing mature adults in lt was very appealing. I just love Gerry and these women I think Susan should be the Golden Bachelorette. Fabulous program that should have been two hours at a minimum, and a full season

Yes, it should have been 2 hours. Just like the younger ones got. And yes, they should have had some International dates., It should have gone longer. And although I think Gerry personally really liked Susan (I think she was teriffic) I don’t think he could feel more than a friendship with her.

The Golden Bachelor gets only one hour per episode. Bachelor in Paradise gets two hours, and it’s boring and too raunchy at times.

I’m pulling for Faith or Leslie. Theresa is too clingy and immature. But some men like that type.

Not too bad of a show. But, the women are All too desperate, catty, immature, and more!! They All need to Grow-up. Yes, I was married and my awesome husband has recently passed away. Good Luck Gerry.

I have loved this series as so realistic. He is a perfect choice. And the women behaved as ladies not bickering. I hope next time you make this a two hour show.

I’ve only watched one Bachelor season and one Bachelorette season because of the hype of the week, but I found it insipid and childish, with all the antics of the younger men and women. I watched the Golden Bachelor and was very pleasantly surprised at how mostly (Kathy!) supportive and respectful the women were to each other. I was scatred for this because could see some of these women really falling for Gerry and thinking they have a chance and then in the end, not get picked. I think it would be even more heartbreaking at this age, with both of these women already experiencing losses.

Gerry should pick Faith! They seem to make the best match. Theresa is just too pushy! Her low self esteem Acts as if she’s better than.. unattractive! Penny .. My sister and I have enjoyed The Golden Bachelor very much. Thank you.

Yes, 4 hometowns would’ve been great, as well as 2-hour episodes!

It makes sense to have a one hour show as these are seniors. These people are not used to being up at 2 am for a date or rose ceremony. No need to put more stress on nan already stressful situation.

I’m sorry they didn’t make the Golden bachelor two hours long for every episode just like the bachelor and Bachelorette one hour just isn’t enough time. Yes Ellen would have been my choice for number four.

The Golden Bachelor should have been 2 hours and Bachelor in Paradise 1 hour! And there should have been 4 hometown dates! Bring us more Golden Bachelors and Bachelorettes!!!! And soon!!!!!

I’ve watched this since Trista was one the first Bachelor show & have watched men & women of the younger age be ungrateful, unkind…it has been such a pleasure as a 59 year old divorcee of 18 years/no children to see these lovely women& ge tremendous be that example-LOVELY, supportive, genuinely happy for the other ladies 1-1 dates…The Gooden Bachelor has shown future bachelors just what it looks like to truly honor, respect & be a gentleman w/a woman’s vulnerable heart. I want to see more of these Golden shows…I think that the simple way the dates were done & not hey-setting over the globe was so fitting as well. Thank you to all-one sweet gal that never got a 1-1 date that is the wedding officiant always had a smile, always positive, not one critical word did she utter. Hope there is more! Pamela Honeycutt

Totally agree!! That Susan seemed to have so many terrific traits!

P.S. And susan has the most beautiful smile I think I have ever seen!! I Googled trying to find out if they are her natural teeth, dentures or implants. And I’m dying to find out but I can’t find the answer! I want those teeth!

Yes, the format should be longer and unfair to Gary & the ladies. There should if been 4, especially how many changes happen at hometowns

ABC says, “This week, Zach returns to the United States and sets off on a cross-country adventure to meet the families of his four remaining women in their hometowns, where confessions of love are right around the corner ...”

Last week in Budapest, Greer returned presumably after testing positive for COVID-19 after Zach did. Later, however, she was sent home by Zach. Kaity received a rose after a one-on-one date and Gabi received the group date rose.

Later, Charity and Ariel also got roses. Brooklyn and Kat were sent home.

So, the four remaining women are:

  • Ariel, 28, a marketing executive from New York City, New York.
  • Charity, 26, a child and family therapist from Columbus, Georgia.
  • Gabriella “Gabi,” 25, an account executive from Pittsford, Vermont.
  • Kaitlyn “Kaity,” 27, an ER nurse from Austin, Texas.

Shallcross, 26, is a tech executive from Anaheim Hills, California. Last year, he dated Rachel Recchia on season 19 of “The Bachelorette.” Shallcross made it as far as the fantasy suites episode after which he self-eliminated.

The bachelor recap: contenders, pretenders and power rankings after ep. 8, share this article.

It’s hometown week, folks! We are down to the final four women vying for Zach Shallcross’s season of The Bachelor as Gabi, Ariel, Charity and Kaity hope to earn a spot in the trio for Fantasy Suite week.

Zach’s journey on the road starts in Pittsford, Vermont with Gabi as the couple scampers through the woods, taps a tree, tries a bunch of different syrups and meets Gabi’s family. It’s a pretty straight-forward and seemingly lovely time for everyone.

Next up, he heads down to New York City with Ariel. She took him around the city, trying traditional Jewish fare like pastrami, gefilte fish and tongue sandwich. Meeting Ariel’s family was a little intense with her brother and father reasonably questioning the process and how well they know each other.

Columbus, Georgia was the next stop so that Zach could meet up with Charity and her family and friends. David, Charity’s father, was my personal favorite this week with the best dad energy and advice for his daughter. Most of Charity’s time with her friends and family was spent rehashing previous heartbreak and crying, but they closed it out with a country music bar.

Last, but not least, was Kaity in Austin. This feels a little unfair — or at the very least foreshadowing — as Zach is  also from Austin. The duo went grocery shopping and built a bookshelf. Honestly, the truest test of whether a relationship would work is making a couple do mundane tasks without fighting, so I respect the move of having him do chores around your house. They finished with a visit to meet with Kaity’s mom.

No true relationship test like grocery shopping together 🥑🍓 #TheBachelor @zach_shallcross pic.twitter.com/Vjgf3isiCV — The Bachelor (@BachelorABC) March 14, 2023

A relatively straightforward hometown week episode with very little drama. Let’s get into the contenders, pretenders, those that have work to do and our Top Five.

Kaity – Not only did Kaity make it through to next week, she got Zach to build a bookshelf, flip her mattress and change some lightbulbs at her house. That’s a high efficiency week for our girl.

Ariel – Heard her name called first in the rose ceremony. They have an obvious connection, though his Texan ways and her big city life may be at odds (or just the start of a Hallmark movie).

Work Left to Do

Gabi – Had to sweat it out for the final rose of the week. She feels just a hair behind Kaity and Ariel, but she’s moving on nonetheless.

Charity – I just want to give you a huge hug. This woman is so kind and sweet and has been through so much obvious heartbreak. YOU’LL FIND YOUR MAN, CHARITY.

All The 'Bachelor' Spoilers For Zach Shallcross' Hometown Dates

Thank you, Reality Steve.

preview for Everything to Know About The Bachelor Season 27

Zach's season has received mixed reviews so far. Some people find it unbearably dull (Zach is just too serious about finding his future wife) but I still think there's been plenty of drama along the way. Madison's griddy? Greer trying to comfort Zach while having COVID, and then getting COVID herself? All totally priceless.

Still, if you haven't felt fully satisfied with this season, the hometown episode might finally give you your fill. Here's everything to know (so far) about Zach's hometown dates.

Hold on, what is a hometown date?

Ah, yes. For those totally new to Bachelor Nation , you might have no idea what I'm talking about (lucky you!). A hometown date is exactly what it sounds like: the Bachelor travels to the four remaining contestants' hometowns to (usually) meet their families and see where they live or grew up.

These dates are usually pretty significant in the overall season. They can lead to anything from an awkward family conversation (typical) to self-eliminations.

Who gets a hometown date this season?

Zach traveled to four different cities this past fall with four women— Gabi Elnicki , Ariel Frenkel , Charity Lawson , and Kaity Biggar .

Reality Steve confirmed these four visits , which reportedly took place in late October and early November of last year.

Where are the hometowns?

Zach has quite the adventure on these hometowns. He starts off on the east coast in Gabi's hometown in Vermont, then travels to the Big Apple with Ariel.

Zach and Ariel were spotted walking around Washington Square Park and then hitting up a deli later in the day. What better way to show off New York, truly?

After his stint in New York City, Zach moved down south to Charity's hometown of Columbus, Georgia. Finally, Zach wraps up his trip by visiting his own hometown (and Kaity Biggar's): Austin, Texas .

No word on exactly what the pair got up to, but Kaity might have taken him to her favorite restaurant spots (she's known for being a foodie ). Who knows. Perhaps Zach will even show off some of his favorite places in the city.

What happens on the hometown dates?

Based on the preview, Zach totally gets grilled by some of the girls' family members...And specifically their brothers.

In one awkward shot, one of the girls' brothers asks him, "Do you know my sister's middle name? What's my sister's birthday?" Cut to Zach looking somewhat dumbfounded and shaking his head.

Then there's a shot of Charity's brother saying that he is "overprotective" of his sister because she "deserves the best." Charity is also filmed wiping tears from her eyes. So... things look kinda tense for Zach.

Who goes home after the hometowns?

Sadly, someone does have to be eliminated at the end of the hometown dates. Charity is reportedly sent home at this rose ceremony, per Reality Steve . But it sounds like there could be more in store for her as the next potential Bachelorette ... (ABC has not confirmed anything yet, so for now, it's just wishful thinking).

After Charity's exit, viewers can expect to also see Ariel eliminated during an overnight date in Thailand after the hometowns—leaving Gabi and Kaity as the final two.

Who does well at the hometowns?

Kaity is reportedly engaged to Zach at this moment, according to Reality Steve , but it's unclear what exactly happens in the final episode. Either way, it must've been some hometown date in Austin!

When does the hometown episode air?

The hometown dates will air during week eight of The Bachelor , meaning it hits the airwaves tonight, Monday, March 13, 2023. In the meantime, you can catch up on any Bachelor content you may have missed on Hulu .

‘The Bachelor’ Season 27, Episode 7 Recap: Who Went Home? Who Gets A Hometown Date?

The Bachelor ‘s basic boy Zach Shallcross kicked off Season 27, Week 7 with another one of his famous location declarations. This time? “We are in Budapest, Hungary, baby!”

After coming out of quarantine in Episode 6 and spending a (mostly) fun week in Tallinn, Estonia, Shallcross and his seven remaining contestants headed to Hungary for their most high-stakes week yet. With Hometown Dates on the horizon, each rose Shallcross handed out in Week 7 came with the added assurance that he was so confident he could see a potential future with the women that he was ready to meet their families. Only four ladies will get the chance to introduce Shallcross to their loved ones in Episode 8, which means he sent three (!!!) women home in Budapest.

Emotions ran high with two one-on-one dates, an intense group date, and the return of Greer Blitzer , who missed all the antics in Estonia because she tested positive for COVID and had to quarantine. Looking for a recap of  The Bachelor  Season 27, Episode 7? Wondering who snagged the two one-on-one dates? Who went home? And who secured a Hometown Date with Shallcross? We’ve got you covered. But be warned, spoilers for  The Bachelor  are ahead.

Date 1 Recap: Zach Shallcross and Kaity Biggar’s One-On-One Date

Shallcross and Kaity Biggar — the 27-year-old ER nurse from Austin, Texas — shared a special one-on-one together at the Natural History Museum in Episode 3 . And they got their second one-on-one in Episode 7. After a run-and-jump kiss and a belly slap from Biggar, the two explored the city in style. They hopped on The Budapest Castle Hill Funicular (aka Budavári Sikló), which is essentially a funicular railway in Budapest that looks like part trolley, part gondola lift. Then they saw the sights, stopping at a random typewriter for lovers to write each other poems. (I question if Shallcross knows what a poem is, considering his started with “dear Katie,” but it was still cute!)

Halfway through the date, the two lovebirds were raving about each other to cameras. Shallcross gushed over Biggar’s kindness and shared that she still gives him butterflies, while Biggar dubbed her man “perfect.” They reconnected for a romantic dinner at Hungary’s oldest bathhouse, and Biggar finally pushed herself to open up and share her desires and family history. When Hometown Dates came up, she told Shallcross that if he were to come meet her family he wouldn’t be meeting her dad, because he left when she was young and hasn’t been a big part of her life since. She also shared that when she was growing up her mom was in a relationship with another man who was like a father to her, but he left when she was in eighth grade. Biggar started crying, stressing that she’d want stability in a husband because she’s never felt that from a man, and Shallcross offered her the rose. “I can’t wait to see more of you and the people who helped create you,” he said. Biggar told cameras she was on “Cloud 12,” and the two ended their date making out in a heated bath.

Date 2 Recap: Tears, Anxiety, And A Mentalist

For his Hungary group date, Shallcross invited Ariel, Charity, Gabi, and Kat to make some magic happen in a theater. They joined magician, mindreader, and mentalist Labib Malik who dubbed Gabi Elnicki’s connection with Shallcross the strongest with help from a cute (mind-blowing) trick. Then, things got intense.

Malik pulled out a tiny chalkboard, warned the women that if they lied to him he’d know, and started interrogating them one by one. He told Gabi that people get easily confused around her. He knew that past heartbreak was holding Ariel back. He called Charity out for her reluctance to fully trust people (including herself) post-infidelity. And he got Kat to admit that she “thinks” she’s ready for Shallcross to meet her family and she’s thought about walking away from the competition before.

The tears were flowing, the questions were triggering, and the ladies left their arch nemesis (the mentalist) feeling more confused and uncertain than ever. At the afterparty, emotions were running especially high as the ladies each tried to clean up the messes they feared their chats with Malik made. Each woman assured Shallcross they saw a future with him and were ready to bring him home to their families, but the most at-ease contestant was undoubtedly Ariel Frenkel, who used some of her alone time with Shallcross to share that her father didn’t want her coming on the show because he was convinced The Bachelor had orgies and she’d be forced to get naked. “I was like, ‘I don’t think you’ve been watching The Bachelor . I think that’s like Game of Thrones ,” she laughed.

Despite Frenkel’s delightful dad impersonation, Shallcross gave the group rose to Gabi Elnicki, who took time to open up to him about her ADHD, share her feelings for him, and more.

G reer Blitzer’s Triumphant, Short-Lived Return

We interrupt Week 7’s date recaps to bring you the latest on Greer Blitzer’s COVID recovery and confident quest to win back Shallcross’ heart. After quarantining for six days, Blitzer headed to Budapest to continue her love story with Shallcross. She eagerly knocked on his hotel room door, they embraced for the first time in roughly three weeks, then they sat down to catch up and break up.

Blitzer told Shallcross she still saw something between them and was ready to introduce him to the fam, but he told her his relationships with the other women strengthened while they were apart and because they were robbed of time he wasn’t confident they could catch up ahead of Hometowns. After a tearful goodbye, Greer said goodbye to the show for good.

Date 3 Recap: Zach Shallcross and Brooklyn Willie’s One-On-One Date

Shallcross spent his second one-on-one date in Budapest with Brooklyn Willie — the 25-year-old rodeo racer from Stillwater, Oklahoma — living like locals. The two had their one-on-one in the Bahamas in Episode 4, but this time around they rode bikes, flew in a hot air balloon, and visited an iconic Hungarian bathhouse, which Shallcross described as a Vegas pool party meets a train station.

Willie said Shallcross was someone she could see herself falling in love with, and later at dinner she told him he’d be meeting her grandma, mom, and grandpa if he came back home with her. She explained that her biological dad was out of the picture, but gushed over her grandpa, who stepped in as a father figure and raised her and her sister. After hearing Willie talk about her family, Shallcross asked to “take time away to think and breathe,” then proceeded to tell cameras “if I’m not feeling confident and sure, who am I to be in that house?” He returned to Willie and said that all week something between them hasn’t clicked, so he sent her home and told her she deserves a type of love he can’t give her.

T he Bachelor  Season 27, Episode 7 Rose Ceremony Recap: Who Went Home? Who’s Getting A Hometown Date?

Since Kaity and Gabi received roses ahead of Episode 7’s rose ceremony, Kat, Ariel, and Charity waited to learn whether they’d be bringing Shallcross home to their families. In the end, Shallcross sent Katherine Izzo home, which means Kat, Brooklyn, and Greer got the boot in Budapest. The Bootapest, if you will.

Izzo and Shallcross caught up outside and he explained that their connection changed since the Bahamas and he couldn’t make sense of it. After Izzo left, Shallcross cried to Jesse Palmer and admitted he “had no doubt” he’d be meeting Izzo’s family after their Bahamas one-on-one. So who gets a Hometown Date next week?

Zach Shallcross’ will have Hometown Dates with the following contestants:

  • Kaity Biggar (Austin, TX – As a reminder, also Shallcross’ hometown)
  • Ariel Frenkel (New York City, New York)
  • Charity Lawson (Columbus, Georgia)
  • Gabi Elnicki (Pittsford, Vermont)

New episodes of  The Bachelor  Season 27 premiere on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. Episodes are available for next-day streaming on Hulu.

The Bachelor

SPOILER ALERT! This post contains details from Monday’s episode of The Bachelor , including who does not receive a rose after hometowns.

The time has quickly come for Joey to meet the families of the four remaining women on The Bachelor.

The episode doesn’t waste any time getting into the hometown dates, beginning with Kelsey A. Then Rachel, Daisy and, lastly, Maria. Here’s how each of the dates went:

At this point, Joey seems like he’s chomping at the bit to dive deeper with each of these ladies and really secure a commitment from them. Kelsey looks to be all in on Joey, but she does admit that the prospect of not being chosen still scares her.

Still, she brings Joey to meet her dad and her siblings. They share a truly heartfelt moment together when Kelsey’s dad presents Joey with a photo album that includes images of Kelsey’s late mom, so he can get to know her as well. Naturally, this day is very hard for Kelsey, since it’s a milestone in her life that her mom is missing.

When speaking with her dad, Kelsey says she learned not to settle from watching her parents’ relationship. Her dad is glad to hear that, because he always wanted to model a healthy relationship for his kids, and he seems to see that potential with Joey. He tells Joey that he wants him to protect Kelsey, and Joey assures him his feelings for Kelsey are very real.

At the end of the date, Kelsey’s dad tells her he hopes she’s engaged the next time he sees her. In all, it’s a very successful hometown No. 1!

Rachel — Rancho Cucamonga, California

Though she’s originally from Hawai’i, Rachel meets Joey in Southern California for her hometown date, where he meets not only her parents and her sister but also her distant relatives. While Joey impresses them right away with his respectfulness and his willingness to learn about their Filipino heritage, her parents are clearly skeptical.

His conversation with Rachel’s dad doesn’t go much better. Joey says he’s a bit nervous moving forward with Rachel if he doesn’t have a stamp of approval from her parents, but when he asks her dad for his blessing, his response is “If that time comes, she has my number.” Oof.

For whatever reason, Rachel doesn’t seem phased by her parents’ hesitancy. At the end of the date, she still tells Joey that she’s falling in love with him.

Daisy — Becker, Minnesota

For his third hometown date, Joey finds himself on a Christmas tree farm in Minnesota, reliving Daisy’s childhood. They even get a surprise visit from some of Daisy’s friends as they explore the farm before meeting her family.

A lot is riding on this hometown, since Daisy told Joey she couldn’t really take the next step with him or open up further with him until she saw how he was with her family. While speaking with Daisy’s mom, Joey lets her in on Daisy’s hesitancy but says he has zero doubts about his feelings for her.

Her parents must really like Joey, because both of them encourage her to open up to him and be vulnerable, even though it might seem scary. They both tell her that, if she wants the relationship to work, she has to let go of that fear and just be honest.

She takes that advice to heart and opens up to Joey about her feelings, which he seems to appreciate. Another successful hometown!

Maria — Niagara Falls, New York

Last, but certainly not least, Joey visits Niagara Falls to meet Maria’s family. He is a bit more nervous about this date than the others, simply because he and Maria have had a rocky journey thus far. Joey still seems uneasy about how Maria handled her feelings last week, when she considered leaving the show. Before they meet the family, they sit down to have a talk about where they’re at, and Joey admits he isn’t feeling confident. Maria says she regrets how she handled the previous situation, so she’s hoping she can give him some reassurance while they’re together this time around.

But, when Joey finds out that he’s the first man she’s ever brought home, it freaks him out even more. He’s not sure whether to feel honored or concerned, but he definitely leans toward feeling concerned. Maria insists that meeting her family is an important step that she doesn’t take lightly, and that’s why she’s never brought anyone home before.

Joey’s chat with Maria’s dad goes well. He says he is confident in his feelings about Maria, even though he hasn’t said much to her yet, because he doesn’t want to tell four different women he’s falling in love with them — which is fair. Maria’s dad must get a good vibe, because he gives Joey his blessing. If Maria chooses him too, of course.

Maria’s dad also tells his daughter she needs to be a bit more vulnerable and open herself up to the idea of this romance. Maria seems like she’s ready to be more open with Joey, but when she gets a moment alone with him, she still isn’t able to truly express her feelings.

Rose Ceremony

Back in Los Angeles, the four women meet Joey at an airport hangar for the rose ceremony. Since they each had individual dates this week, there is no cocktail party. Joey hands out three roses to Daisy, Kelsey A. and Rachel.

The air is sucked out of the room as he sends Maria home. He walks her out, telling her that he would have felt dishonest moving forward with her while he still had doubts.

The Bachelor recap: Hometown heartbreak

Zach Shallcross shall cross many a state line this week to meet the families of the final four women.

Emlyn Travis is a news writer at  Entertainment Weekly  with over five years of experience covering the latest in entertainment. A proud Kingston University alum, Emlyn has written about music, fandom, film, television, and awards for multiple outlets including MTV News,  Teen Vogue , Bustle, BuzzFeed,  Paper Magazine , Dazed, and NME. She joined EW in August 2022.

Hometowns are officially here, Rose Buds! With four women still in the running to become Mrs. Shallcross, Zach shall cross many a state line in order to meet their families before potentially getting down on one knee in just a few weeks.

First, Zach heads to Vermont to meet up with Gabi, who announces the pair will be embarking on the "full maple experience" of a lifetime. It's an interesting choice considering that Zach didn't seem like the biggest maple maniac when she first made him try some on night one. The pair end up drilling into this poor, unsuspecting tree in their hunt for "liquid gold," only to come up completely empty handed.

With no tree sap sapping the fun out of their date, Gabi stages a blind maple syrup taste test for Zach to try a whole array of Vermont's best. However, there's a hidden catch: one of the condiments is Fake Maple Syrup (dun dun dun) and if Zach picks that, it's game over for Gabi.

Which, naturally, means that's the one Zach picks as his favorite. "You just shot me!" Gabi shouts. "This is fake! The bottom of the barrel, worst syrup you can buy." She reveals the concoction was "pancake syrup," a.k.a "high fructose corn syrup" or "ew, throw up in my mouth" syrup. Nothing that a maple purist like Gabi could ever endorse, although she ultimately forgives Zach for his transgression.

The pair then head to meet her family. Coincidentally, her older sister Chloe has just gotten engaged, and Gabi casually drops how exciting it would be to plan their weddings together… so, no pressure, Zach! During a conversation with her brother Evan, Zach tells him that Gabi "is someone I could see a future with and I don't have a doubt about that," which is nice until you really think about it and realize he hasn't actually committed to anything.

After meeting her family, the pair sit on the tiniest bench in the world (a recurring pattern throughout the episode) to discuss their relationship before Gabi suddenly blurts out, "Don't forget about me!" Zach assuages her fears, but Gabi ends up crying over their forced separation while he attends his other hometowns.

Next! Zach is taking a bite out of the Big Apple — and all of its many quintessential eats — during his visit to New York City to meet Ariel's family. The pair share a kiss at Washington Square Park before heading out on a food tour that sees them grabbing a slice of pizza, eating sandwiches at a Jewish deli, and having a drink at a speakeasy.

When Zach tells her he's "very nervous" to meet her family, Ariel says he really only needs to worry about her brother Bobby, who's "protective" and previously offered to "beat up my exes." As they sip on their cocktails, she tells Zach that her family's history is an incredibly important part of her own identity, noting, "You don't know me without knowing my family and their experience as immigrants."

Just before their introduction, Ariel attempts to comfort Zach one last time by telling him that they're both going to be "roasted" by her family tonight, which is exactly what everyone wants to hear before they go meet their potential in-laws.

Bobby, a self-described "skeptic," immediately pulls Zach aside to ask how it's possible to find love in such a short timeframe. "I did fall in love in this process," Zach says. "If you let yourself lean in and be open to finding love, you can find it, and I'm really confident with what I have with Ariel. I see a future with her."

It all goes downhill, however, when Bobby asks Zach how he plans to reconcile their different backgrounds. Zach replies that he doesn't have a "specific way" in mind besides that "families will make it work." Strike one.

Then, Bobby throws down the gauntlet: "When's my sister's birthday?" When Zach shakes his head, he presses, "If you don't know somebody's birthday, how do you really know a person? Like, do you know my sister's middle name?"

Zach sidesteps the question. "I would disagree with you on that," he says. "If you love someone, and you have that feeling, why don't you have the rest of your relationship — or the rest of your life together — to get to know the smaller details? Bigger picture is really what I'm focusing on and doing what feels right." Except… Zach… middle names and birthdays feel like the most basic thing to know about someone you're going to marry. Strike two.

He then totally whiffs a question from Ariel's dad by suggesting that his final choice is still up in the air when it comes to his current relationships. Strike three. It's not all bad news bears, though. After surviving their grilling, Ariel reveals that she's falling for Zach, so he might still be in the game after all.

Zach then packs up and heads to Georgia, where he reconnects with Charity, who invites him to a tailgate with all of her close friends and family. They immediately welcome Zach in and Charity's dad can be seen smiling at how happy his daughter looks during the meal, which is extra adorable.

It's also a very emotional lunch. Charity ends up crying during nearly every conversation she has with her dad, mom, and close friends. She also shares a really lovely moment with her brother Nehemiah, who worries about her getting hurt. "I love you so much," he says. "I want your happily ever after because you deserve the best." We stan a supportive family!

After the meal, Charity and Zach spend the rest of the evening out line dancing before she tells him that she's falling in love with him in an alley outside the bar. In a confessional, Zach says Charity made "my heart flutter" and that he's "hopeful" for their future together.

"I'm going to bed probably the happiest girl in America tonight," Charity adds. "I can 1000 percent see myself engaged to Zach."

For his final hometown, Zach then heads home to Austin, Texas… which happens to be Kaity's hometown, too. She's only lived there for a "few short weeks" and could use some help settling in, so their date consists of running errands around the city together, which is pretty cute. They compare their favorite cereals while grocery shopping, grab some flowers, and head to her house.

They then take their relationship to the next level… by building a bookshelf. "Did you just bring me to fix things in your house?" He jokes as they change lightbulbs and lug in a new mattress. She replies, "Maybe."

The pair then go to meet her family, which is a big deal for Kaity because if her mom doesn't approve of Zach then it's a serious red flag for her. During their chat, Zach tells her mom that he can "absolutely see myself falling in love with [Kaity]." Meanwhile, Kaity tells her aunt that she can see Zach being "the father of my kids" and "my husband."

Throughout the night, it becomes apparent that Kaity's hesitant to tell Zach about her feelings because she's recovering from a seven-year-long, on-and-off relationship that was "pure toxicity." In the end, her mother gives the stamp of approval on dating Zach, so Kaity later tells him (on another tiny bench) that she's falling in love with him.

Back in Los Angeles, Zach is panicking ahead of the rose ceremony when Sean Lowe stops by for a visit. Despite Sean's encouragement, Zach "still doesn't know" what to do or who he's going to say goodbye to that evening. "I can see a future with all four of these women," he says. "And I don't want to hurt someone or break their heart, but I have to send one of them home."

Zach enters the rose ceremony backed by what can only be described as a Michael Bay soundtrack, so you know this is a Serious Moment. Visibly nervous, he gives Ariel the first rose, then Kaity, then Gabi, meaning Charity is going home. She handles the heartbreak gracefully, telling Zach that he "doesn't have to apologize" as he walks her out.

The pair sit down at yet another tiny bench as Charity begins to cry. "I hope you know, from my heart, that this is the hardest decision I've had to make. I've been sick to my stomach all day," he explains. He then concedes that he "might be making the wrong decision," to which she replies, "No. Don't say that."

"I took a big risk, obviously, coming here and putting my heart out on the line and I knew that from night one, the moment that you spoke, and the moment that I knew it was you," Charity says. "I knew that this experience was going to be something incredible. It's bittersweet for sure."

"I know you don't want to hear this from me, but you deserve all the love and I couldn't give it to you," Zach says. "I'm grateful to know you." The pair share a hug and Zach waits until the car drives away before he begins crying like the leading man of an old film.

Now, Rose Buds, for the sake of my own sanity, we have to talk about this end credits scene where Zach reveals that he eats pancakes with MUSTARD?! And then Gabi somehow makes things even weirder by telling him that she's NEVER HAD MUSTARD OR RANCH DRESSING? Which somehow even surprises HIM? That was a bridge too far for you, Zach? Not the mustard on pancakes!? But I digress.

What do you think, Rose Buds? Do you think Zach made a mistake sending Charity home? Have you tried mustard on pancakes? Is it good? Let us know in the comments below!

“The Bachelor” alum Courtney Robertson is a mom again!

On Sunday, Robertson welcomed her third child with husband Humberto Perciado.

She shared the first photos with People magazine and said in a statement, “Party of five ready to rock n roll! Introducing Gabriel Ricardo Preciado. Born April 28th, weighing in at 7.2 lbs., 19.5 inches long and as sweet as they come. Everyone is happy, healthy and adjusting nicely."

Their baby boy joins son Joaquin, 3, and daughter Paloma, 2.

Courtney broke the news that she was expecting in November.

At the time, she told the outlet that they were having another boy.

She shared, “We had always talked about wanting a big family.”

As for how her third pregnancy was different than the previous two, she explained, “I had to mask both times and we weren't able to have family members come to the hospital. I didn't really have a proper baby shower and not that I will this time, but it's just going to be such a different experience having a baby without a pandemic going on.”

Their son Joaquin was “so excited” to be a big brother. Courtney said, “He's been telling the whole world, and obviously, we found out we're having a boy, and we opened that with both of our kids."

Courtney and Humberto have been married since 2020.

Immigration status, educational attainment, poverty status, homeownership, top states of residence, marital status, methodology, facts on hispanics of mexican origin in the united states, 2021.

An estimated 37.2 million Hispanics of Mexican origin lived in the United States in 2021, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey. Mexicans in this statistical profile are people who self-identified as Hispanics of Mexican origin; this includes immigrants from Mexico and those who trace their family ancestry to Mexico.

Mexicans are the largest population of Hispanic origin living in the United States, accounting for 60% of the U.S. Hispanic population in 2021. From 2000 to 2021, the Mexican-origin population increased 79%, growing from 20.9 million to 37.2 million. At the same time, the Mexican foreign-born population living in the U.S. grew by 23%, from 8.7 million in 2000 to 10.7 million in 2021.

For a downloadable spreadsheet of these findings, see “ U.S. Hispanic population data (detailed tables) .”

Note: Figures greater than 1 million are rounded to the nearest 100,000; other figures greater than 100,000 are rounded to the nearest 10,000; figures that are less than or equal to 100,000 and greater than 25,000 are rounded to the nearest 5,000.

Source: Pew Research Center tabulations of the 2000 census (5% IPUMS) and the 2010 and 2021 American Community Surveys (1% IPUMS).

The following key facts compare demographic and economic characteristics of the Mexican-origin population in the U.S. with the characteristics of U.S. Hispanics and the U.S. population overall. They are based on Pew Research Center tabulations of the 2021 American Community Survey.

  • Among Hispanics in the U.S., 32% are foreign born, compared with 29% of U.S. Mexicans.
  • 62% of foreign-born Mexicans have been in the U.S. for over 20 years, and 35% of foreign-born Mexicans are U.S. citizens.
  • 20% of U.S. Hispanics ages 25 and older have obtained at least a bachelor’s degree, compared with 15% of Mexicans.
  • Among Mexicans ages 25 and older, the U.S. born are more likely than the foreign born to have a bachelor’s degree or higher (21% vs. 9%).
  • Among U.S. Hispanics and Mexicans, the median annual personal earnings for those ages 16 and older was $30,000.
  • Looking at full-time, year-round workers, U.S. Hispanics earned $40,000, while Mexicans also earned $40,000.
  • The share of U.S. Hispanics overall who live in poverty is 18%. The share is the same for Mexicans.
  • 18% of U.S.-born Mexicans live in poverty, as do 17% of foreign-born Mexicans.
  • The rate of homeownership among U.S. Hispanic households is 51%, compared with 53% for Mexicans.
  • Among Mexicans in the U.S., rates of homeownership are 54% for the U.S. born and 53% for foreign born.
  • The Mexican population is concentrated in California (34%), Texas (26%), Arizona (5%), Illinois (5%) and Colorado (2%).
  • The median age of U.S. Hispanics  (29.5) is similar to that of Mexicans (27.9) and lower than that of the U.S. population (37.8).
  • U.S. Hispanics ages 18 and older are about as likely to be married (46%) as Mexicans (47%).
  • Among Mexicans ages 18 and older, those who are foreign born are more likely to be married than U.S.-born Mexicans (62% vs. 37%).
  • 6% of U.S. Hispanic females ages 15 to 44 gave birth in the 12 months prior to the July 2021 American Community Survey. That was similar to the rate for Mexican females (7%).
  • 72% of U.S. Hispanics ages 5 and older speak only English at home or speak English at least “very well,” compared with 74% of Mexicans.
  • Meanwhile, 67% of Hispanic adults are English proficient, as are 69% of Mexican adults.

Note: This is an update of a fact sheet originally published in September 2019, which former Research Analyst  Antonio Flores contributed to and co-wrote.

Pew Research Center’s fact sheets on U.S. Latinos and the accompanying blog post examine the Latino population of the United States overall and by its 17 largest origin groups – Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Salvadorans, Dominicans, Cubans, Guatemalans, Colombians, Hondurans, Spaniards, Ecuadorians, Peruvians, Venezuelans, Nicaraguans, Argentines, Panamanians, Chileans and Costa Ricans. These sheets provide detailed geographic, demographic and economic characteristics for all Latinos and for each Latino origin group. They are based on the Center’s tabulations of the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2010 and 2021 American Community Survey (ACS) and the 2000 U.S. decennial census.

The ACS is the largest household survey in the United States, with a sample of more than 3 million addresses . It covers the topics previously covered in the long form of the decennial census. The ACS is designed to provide estimates of the size and characteristics of the resident population, which includes persons living in households and group quarters. For more about the ACS, including the sampling strategy and associated error, see the 2010 or 2021 American Community Survey’s Accuracy of the Data document provided by the Census Bureau.

The specific data sources for these fact sheets are the 1% samples of the 2010 and 2021 ACS Integrated Public Use Microdata Series (IPUMS) provided by the University of Minnesota and the 5% sample of the 2000 decennial census. IPUMS assigns uniform codes, to the extent possible, to data collected by the decennial census and the ACS from 1850 to 2021. For more information about IPUMS, including variable definition and sampling error, please visit the “ IPUMS Documentation and User Guide .”

Due to differences in the way in which IPUMS and Census Bureau adjust income data and assign poverty status, data provided on these topics might differ from data that are provided by the Census Bureau.

For the purposes of these fact sheets, the foreign born include those persons who identified as naturalized citizens or noncitizens and are living in the 50 states or the District of Columbia. Persons born in Puerto Rico and other outlying territories of the U.S. and who are now living in the 50 states or D.C. are included in the U.S.-born population.
