The 8 Most Trusted Travel Brands In The U.S.

With that in mind, for the first time, Newsweek, in collaboration with market research partner Statista (a Germany-based research company. They’ve been around since 2007), ranked America’s Most Trusted Companies in 22 industries:

  • Aerospace & defense
  • Appliances & electronics
  • Automotive & components
  • Construction
  • Consulting & professional services
  • Consumer goods
  • Energy & utilities
  • Financial services
  • Food & beverage
  • Health care & life sciences
  • Machines & industrial equipment
  • Materials & chemicals
  • Media & entertainment
  • Real estate & housing
  • Software & telecommunications
  • Technology hardware
  • Textiles, clothing & luxury goods
  • Transport, logistics & packaging
  • Travel, dining & leisure

Here’s how they came up with their rankings:

We looked at publicly traded U.S. corporations in 22 industries with $500 million or more in annual revenues and then surveyed 50,000 U.S. residents. Respondents were asked about companies they knew well and were, asked among other things, if they believed individual companies treated their customers fairly, treated their employees fairly and would be good long-term investments. The result is a list of 400 companies Americans trust the most, ranked by industry. We’ve also noted the state where each is based.

Of course, with such a broad topic such as “travel, dining and leisure,” not all of the 17 “winners” were actually in the travel business – some were restaurants, and non-travel entities such as movie theater chains and gaming were in the mix.

Here’s the list:

17. Wynn Resorts 16. Bluegreen Vacations (timeshare) 15. Texas Roadhouse (restaurant brand) 14. AMC entertainment (movie theater) 13. Penn National Gaming (gaming) 12. TravelCenters of America (truck stop) 11. Choice Hotels International 10. The Cheesecake Factory (restaurant brand) 9. Hyatt Hotels 8. Regis Corporation (hair salon) 7. Brinker International (restaurant conglomerate) 6. Caesars Entertainment 5. Hilton Worldwide 4. Bloomin’ Brands (restaurant conglomerate) 3. Starbucks (restaurant brand) 2. Liberty Tripadvisor 1. Marriott International

So of the top 17, the ones that were actually “travel” were 4 hotel chains, 2 casino chains, an online travel agency and a timeshare.

Our take on this

Frankly, I think they did a disservice to every single category by making them too broad. For example, travel, dining & leisure could easily have been 3 separate categories. And how did a HAIR SALON get included in the mix??? Getting your hair cut is a leisure activity? No, it’s grooming.

And wait…airlines are listed under transport? (by the way, of the 22 winners in that category, Alaska Air was #11, Delta Air Lines was #19, and #22 was…FRONTIER AIRLINES?!?!?! For being trustworthy? Have they not ever heard of the I Hate Frontier Airlines group on Facebook?) Not travel?

Also, although some of the categories would be ones that almost everyone would know, how many people of their random sample would be familiar enough with, say, construction, consulting & professional services, or aerospace & defense, to vote on them? Would anyone outside the state of Texas know about Magnolia Oil & Gas? And really, how many people in the U.S. are going to have a working knowledge of Century Aluminum, American Tower, or Unifi? How equitable is it when you have those brands getting how many fewer votes than, say, Starbucks, because only niche groups of people would be familiar with them?

I was already skeptical when they referred to their ranking as the “first annual.” There’s no such thing as “first annual” – it can’t be an annual event until it’s already happened at least one other time. “First ever?” Yes. “Inaugural?” Absolutely. “First annual?” Nope.

Well, it is what it is. But I take this one with a grain of salt.

One Golden Thread : Best Travel Clothes Overall

One Golden Thread

One Golden Thread makes functional, fashionable clothing with feeling. Made from a blend of regenerative Beech Tree fiber and combed ring-spun Cotton, the OGT lineup has perhaps the most comfortable threads I’ve ever worn. Seriously. After I got my Crew Neck Tree Shirt and the Tree Pant , I wore the set for three days straight.

Equally functional and stylish, these clothes will work just as well on a long-haul flight, a light hike, a day at the beach or a night out in a new city. They’re highly versatile and seriously soft. I’ll never wear another set of clothes on a flight ever again.

Alongside the cut, it’s the Beech Tree fiber that really makes the OGT lineup stand out. As far as I know, no other company is producing clothing from this material. That means there’s a good chance you haven’t felt the level of comfort these threads provide. With a 30-day return policy, you might as well try—you’ve got nothing to lose.

Their versatility allows for more minimalist travel. You can bring fewer things for more possibility.

From their 5-pocket Tree Pant , to the 98% five-star review Tree Shirt , wear the feeling of home wherever you roam. And for every item you purchase, One Golden Thread plants a tree. So, as you travel, you are a part of, as they say, re-generosity. It’s so golden.

Columbia : Best Budget Travel Clothes

Columbia fleece clothing

Columbia has been a household name for travel clothes in North America for a long time and continues to earn that distinction. Most of you have probably owned Columbia gear at one time or another. If not, you absolutely should. Everything is reasonably priced, and you can wear it for every stage of your trip, even to chillier destinations.

Columbia’s Omni-Heat fabric is perfect for colder climates, and I’ve found this technology to be especially useful when applied to their pants. I personally own a pair of Omni-Heat pants, and I wear them all the time for winter and snow-related activities.

Columbia also produces a large selection of standard cotton shirts that you can wear for just about any occasion. They’re very budget-friendly and the cotton is lightweight, breathable, and cozy for long days on the road. They also make one of the best rain jackets out there, and it doesn’t break the bank.

On a broader scale, all of Columbia’s fabrics are comfortable and adequately durable. Take note, however, that I’ve found the lower price equals slightly less durability for some of their products. While I love how Columbia clothes fit and function, I’ve also found them to wear out earlier than other brands.

Arc'teryx : Best Adventure Travel Clothes

Arc'teryx gear

If you’re interested in the most up-to-date technological innovations in outdoor gear and travel clothing, consider Arc’teryx . More than other travel clothing brands, they focus on the performance of their clothes, along with a ruggedly practical design.

Their bread and butter is technical adventure gear for sports, like climbing and mountaineering. Therefore, you’re guaranteed durable and performance-driven garb designed to be put through the wringer.

While all their technical information can be daunting, Arc’teryx does its best to deliver easy-to-understand details about its features. You should be able to make the most informed decision about the best travel clothes to buy.

Plus, their selection is hardly limited to extreme sports. They also have a large variety of general outdoor clothing—everything from trail running pants to innovative hiking boots—making Arc’teryx one of the best outdoor clothing brands on the market. I love this company for this reason, along with the fact that they tend to inject very snappy colors into their clothing designs.

Arc’teryx is also a fantastic resource for cold-weather gear, and their incredibly warm snow pants and jackets are phenomenal. They also offer an array of bags for city and backcountry adventures.

Patagonia : Best Ethically Sourced Travel Clothes

Patagonia Men and Women

My packing list for  anywhere  will forever and always include Patagonia , and so should yours. In terms of travel clothing, Patagonia has just about every essential item you could need. Their clothes are an integral part of my travel wardrobe, whether I’m transiting an airport or hiking up a mountain on a chilly morning to catch a sunrise.

Patagonia uses a variety of high-quality fabrics while staying committed to fair business practices. What’s more, they are incredibly active in nature and wildlife conservation efforts around the world.

Patagonia’s quality is unparalleled. They use the highest quality fabric and manufacturing processes available for their gear (which is why they make some of the best midlayers out there). Furthermore, they’re very transparent about where they source those materials, and it’s all ethical.

In terms of style, Patagonia likes to use bright patterns and colors in their designs, making each item very distinguishable and snazzy. Both men and women will also have plenty of choices in Patagonia’s massive catalog. I’ve found the colors and wide range of options fit my style perfectly, and many of my favorite clothes come from here.

One of those favorites includes a pair of durable pants that I’ve used for both sleeper trains and long days on the trail. I wear these travel pants (along with my other favorite Patagonia clothing items) all the time. They’re durable, they look great, and they carry well.

Amongst all the labels listed here, I have to say that Patagonia is definitely one of the best for stylish travel clothing combined with high durability and a great warranty. Plus their charitable program, Patagonia Action Works, has been supporting conservation efforts for over 40 years. Their brand ethically sources all its materials and labor, so you can feel good about where your money is going.

Bluffworks : Best Business Travel Clothes

A couple wearing business Bluffworks clothes

Bluffworks combines high fashion with durable travel clothing that can be worn anywhere, especially at the office. They aim to unite your travel wardrobe with your everyday wardrobe to make lasting yet fashionable clothing.

They successfully combine performance, style and fabric quality. I’d wear their clothes just about anywhere in the world. If you need stylish clothing for travel and everyday wear, Bluffworks’ travel clothing line is a great option.

You should note that they have a small catalog, but the quality more than makes up for the lack of choices.

Bluffworks is perfect for traveling in cities because they use moisture-wicking and wrinkle-resistant fabrics, so you can explore for hours while still looking presentable. Their aesthetic isn’t flashy by any means, but their clothes are well-made and high-class.

Bluffworks certainly takes no shortcuts when it comes to their materials. In my opinion, it’s the style and quality inherent in every one of their products that distinguishes Bluffworks and earns them a slot on this list as being one of the best travel clothing brands .

prAna : Best Athletic Travel Clothes

PrAna Clothes

If you’re packing lightweight and looking for stylish but athletic travel clothing, look to prAna ! They specialize in sustainable yoga clothing that’s also fantastic for travel and outdoor use. They’ve been doing so for years. They also place a premium on durability and quality, both of which are essential attributes for travel-friendly clothing.

You might have heard the buzz about their leggings and pants—they’re comfy, moisture-wicking, they have an athletic fit, and they last forever. Although prAna clothing has plenty of styles (they have an incredible selection of patterns and colors), their most significant focus is on performance.

First of all, prAna’s clothing has tons of comfort. prAna uses super-soft fabrics and smart designs to keep you comfortable during almost any activity by wicking away excess perspiration and providing ample breathability in warm climates. For example, they make excellent travel dresses for women featuring very lightweight cotton fabric that’s perfect for a night out or a day exploring nature.

Like many of the top travel clothing brands, prAna places a big emphasis on sustainability. They use recycled and natural fabrics like hemp, organic cotton, and recycled polyester, and they make timeless pieces that are designed to last.

They also have a performance-oriented cut that promotes a full range of motion and an athletic fit. If you’re looking for comfortable yet durable travel clothes that can keep up with you wherever you go, whether it’s a hiking trail or a new city, Prana is an excellent choice.

ExOfficio : Best Travel Underwear

ExOfficio bug repellant clothing

I would wear almost anything from the ExOfficio lineup. They have been part of the outdoor community since 1987, and their primary market is insect and sun-repellent clothing. For that reason, hiking and backpacking travelers should check out ExOfficio for all their active gear.

ExOfficio also offers an excellent array of travel clothing accessories like bug-repellent hats and bandanas and underwear utilizing comfortable fabrics built specifically for travel. It’s all in the details, and I think that’s where ExOfficio shines.

They also use a range of eco-friendly materials in their underwear and base layers.

ExOfficio is very passionate about the science behind their products. They used advanced fabrics like merino wool clothing and high-tech anti-microbial treatments. I highly encourage you to look at ExOfficio for practical outdoor travel clothing—especially their underwear!

Unbound Merino : Best Merino Wool Selection

Unbound Merino Side

Unbound Merino is a brand that takes advantage of one of the best clothing materials available out there—merino wool. They’re one of the best merino wool brands on the market, using very high-quality merino wool, which further boosts the quality of their final products—spectacular travel clothes, especially when it comes to shirts and tops.

But let’s talk fabric for a moment. Merino wool is a particular type of wool with spectacular temperature regulation and anti-bacterial properties. It is a wrinkle-resistant fabric that keeps you comfortable in warm or cold weather. It’s also a natural material and is one of the most sustainable fabrics out there!

Unbound Merino has harnessed this merino wool perfectly. They keep fashion in mind when designing simple garments with all the power of this glorious fabric. One shirt can take you from the airport to a city tour to a nice dinner on the town, and still look and smell great at every stage of the day thanks to the anti-bacterial properties.

Unbound Merino has become my go-to for merino wool clothing, largely because of their versatility. They pack in a great travel style that’s ready for everything from urban travel to lounging in the hotel room.

Unbound Merino also pledges to use high-quality fabrics and to avoid fast fashion tactics. In terms of spectacular textile and lightweight clothing, Unbound Merino is undoubtedly one of my favorites for comfortable travel.

Ably : Best Stain-Resistant Clothes

Ably stain-proof shirt

Ably is another one of those brands that value smart and practical clothing for people who are often on the road. They are a Seattle-based brand whose mission is to design odor-, sweat-, water-, and wrinkle-resistant clothing that will be your go-to for any situation.

That’s a tall order, so how do they do it? Ably uses a unique lightweight fabric called Filium. It’s moisture-resistant, odor-blocking, and fast-drying. Together, these attributes work together to form stunning travel clothing, especially for those of you prone to spilling drinks on your clothing (guilty as charged).

I’m particularly fond of the neutral style of Ably clothing—you can mix and match most items. This easy pairing allows you to pack fewer pieces of clothing so you can fill up your suitcase with souvenirs instead!

Furthermore, unlike many mainstream clothing companies, Ably truly cares about quality, and their clothing shows it. Ably has high-quality items that resist spills, sweat, stains, and nearly all other travel-related unpleasantness.

Athleta : Best Women's Travel Clothes

Athleta Clothes

Athleta is one of the more mainstream websites on this list and boasts an extensive catalog to match. This brand is consequently one of my top recommendations for the casual female traveler (and my female team members agree!).

From bottoms to jackets and t-shirts to dresses, Athleta undoubtedly has something for everyone. Athleta also uses durable materials in tandem with quality manufacturing, so you’ll get the same level of comfort in a maxi-dress as you would with a pair of yoga pants.

The aesthetically pleasing yet subtle style is best deployed in cities—taking in the sights, catching a show, having relaxing evenings out, or just chilling in everyday life. However, Athleta’s performance-focused apparel easily earns its place on more adventurous excursions or simple trips to the hotel gym.

Athleta seems to have chiseled out a strong following amongst yoga aficionados thanks to their durable, comfortable, and breathable active leggings and tops. The apparel doesn’t come cheap, but it’s still an excellent travel clothing brand that covers the entire field from casual to activewear.

Vessi Footwear : Best Travel Shoes

Vessi Everyday

Vess i Footwear is an innovative brand that took the typical sneaker model and made it four-season. Their travel shoes are designed for rainy or snowy weather thanks to remarkable waterproofing technology. And yes, I do mean waterproof—I’ve tested Vessi shoes myself, and they’re remarkably watertight.

What’s more, the unique knit material has all the comfort of your favorite pair of slippers for unparalleled foot comfort while traveling. You have three types of sneakers to choose from: the Everyday Sneaker, the Cityscape, and the Everyday Slip-On. All three versions come in both men’s and women’s versions, and each has particular strengths.

Check out my complete review of Vessi footwear if you want to know more.

Vessi literally designed these shoes from scratch as a startup and funded their project through a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign. The science behind the waterproof knit pattern is incredible, and the shoe cushion is anti-bacterial. No stinky feet!

These travel shoes are perfect for just about everyone out there. From snow to rain and casual to classy, these shoes do everything.

Icebreaker : Best For Travel Baselayers

Icebreaker Baselayer Women

Icebreaker is another excellent company that uses merino wool for the vast majority of their products. While they have a broad range of general clothing that’s perfect for travel days, they also produce a very intriguing line of performance clothing aimed at hiking and adventure.

This diversity means that Icebreaker can be your one-stop-shop for all your travel clothing, casual or otherwise. Merino wool is their material of choice because it naturally inhibits bacterial growth and thereby reduces odor while at the same time providing excellent temperature regulation.

The properties of Icebreaker’s high-tech fabrics will keep you warm in colder weather but also help cool you down in the heat by staying breathable and wicking sweat away from your body. This is a huge advantage over cotton t-shirts, which absorb sweat and don’t dry quickly. They also offer great sun protection for long days outside.

Merino is genuinely a fabric unlike any other, and any brand that focuses on wool clothing is a prime target for your wardrobe. I’m particularly fond of Icebreaker’s wool baselayers. They’re great for staying warm on chilly planes or layering up for a colder day exploring a new city or landscape. I include a pair of wool pants for just about every trip I take, and I never regret bringing them.

Overall, Icebreaker makes high-quality travel clothes designed to roll with the punches and stick with you wherever you go. Trust me, merino wool will change your entire outlook on travel clothes. There’s no other material out there that will look so stylish and suitable for any occasion, and yet work so hard to keep you comfortable and smelling great. In fact, they make several of our favorite travel shirts.

Western Rise : Best Men's Travel Clothes

Western Rise clothing for men

Western Rise is a perfect brand for the minimalist male travelers out there. They focus on neutral and durable clothing that will work in many different capacities. While you won’t see many bright colors or patterns, you will get high-quality clothing that will match with anything else in your wardrobe.

Though their clothing may be simple, it has so many different uses and benefits to make so much more than your standard tee. For example, Western Rise cotton shirts include odor and wrinkle-resistant technology, allowing you to dress with confidence for every situation.

The secret behind this odor and wrinkle-free material? Merino wool! Did I mention that I love merino wool? Recall that wool fabric is naturally odor-resistant and less prone to wrinkles than plain cotton. Western Rise, therefore, produces an excellent blend of the two materials that allow you to wear their products just about anywhere.

Their pants are just as impressive, with a nylon-elastane blend for ultimate comfort and durability. Western Rise is a brand that genuinely allows you to go from the city to outdoors in the same outfit.

Their basic design approach also helps with overall travel outfitting, allowing you to easily dress up their clothing without having to include separate fashion outfits while packing.

So remember, Western Rise is absolute wardrobe basics, but the nicest basics you can buy. I’m also a sucker for a company that cares deeply about its material quality, and Western Rise makes a definite point of addressing its design and material selection process on its website.

The company is also very interested in social responsibility and is working to become a net-zero carbon emissions company. Western Rise is perfect for travelers who need minimalist clothing that will work in many different scenarios for many trips to come.

KÜHL : Best Travel Pants

KUHL clothing

KÜHL is one of my favorite travel clothing brands. They produce clothes for men and women that are well-made with a particular focus on hiking. They’re well known for their travel and hiking pants , which feature a trim yet rugged design that’s durable enough for any trail but minimalist enough for a day navigating city streets.

What I mean by “minimalist” is that these travel pants don’t feature any overt logos, bulkiness, or patterns. Just a simple, well-made design that extends to all KÜHL products. That makes them perfect travel pants.

For all you women out there, KÜHL even has an exciting activewear dress collection. The fabric ranges from mighty merino wool to standard cotton, but each one is incredibly cozy and perfect to wear on the road.

I also love that KÜHL has many products that combine all the benefits of technical fabrics with understated designs that can fit your personal style. That’s great for anyone who likes to pack light for one-bag travel and needs travel clothing that can fill multiple purposes, from hiking to dressing up to go out for the night.

All in all, KÜHL is ideal if you need some simple, well-made pieces to incorporate into your wardrobe. Also, because the clothing isn’t bulky, it won’t take up too much room as you’re packing. These travel clothes are ideal for anyone who likes well-made clothing designed by an independent company that will fit perfectly in their suitcase!

Darn Tough Socks : Best Travel Socks

Darn Tough Socks

Socks are essential, and Darn Tough is a well-known sock brand from Vermont, USA. Without a doubt, these are my go-to socks for any occasion, and I love them. I’ve owned at least five pairs, and I never leave home without them.

These merino wool socks genuinely live up to the company name, and they’ll last trip after trip and season after season with hardly any signs of wear and tear. They are durable, warm, and breathable, and they feature merino wool’s natural odor resistance. Merino is the best material for base layers, and that includes your socks!

The natural temperature-regulating properties of wool also makes these socks ideal for both cold and hot weather. Their designed to keep your feet comfortable no matter the temperature. They also sell a wide range of sock thicknesses, from super lightweight running socks to thick, cushy winter ones.

Darn Tough invests a tremendous amount of effort in sourcing high-quality natural fabrics and craftsmanship for these socks. They’re not limited to outdoor adventure either—the comfortable, moisture-wicking, and durable design is just as useful for airports, cities, and museums.

Simply search on their website, and I’m sure you’ll find a pair you love. Darn Toughs has a considerable array of sock styles and designs, but they all feature merino wool’s signalture soft feel and comfort.

The best part of Darn Tough is their warranty. Unlike many brands, they really stand behind their products. If you ever wear out your socks, send them back and they’ll ship you a new pair. No questions asked, no receipt needed. While these socks seem expensive, that extra cost is actually quite affordable pricing considering you are buying a pair of socks that will last the rest of your life!

If you haven’t picked up on it yet, I am a huge fan of Darn Tough socks. Get some! You might even be able to pass them down to your grandkids.

Eddie Bauer : Best Travel Jackets

Eddie Bauer pants

Eddie Bauer is an extremely well-known travel clothing brand with plenty of options for both men and women. For my part, I love their travel pants think they’re one of the best jacket brands out there. Their Guide Pro pants are water-resistant, stretchy, and very swish. Meanwhile, the jackets are lightweight, breathable, stylish, and perfect for men or women.

I also have an Eddie Bauer down parka that I love. I can wear it during the day and stay comfortable without overheating. Meanwhile, my favorite pair of Guide Pro pants look at home on the trail, in a restaurant, or just lounging around.

My emphasis on their pants and jackets is not to imply that I’m not a fan of Eddie Bauer shirts, however. They offer a wide variety in both technical and cotton that are appropriate for casual or activewear. Take note that I feel that their shirts are a little on the boxy side, and they wouldn’t be my first choice to dress to impress, but they’re functional nevertheless. In particular, I think Eddie Bauer makes great shirts for sun protection while hiking in warmer weather.

Eddie Bauer designs all their clothing with versatility in mind. Their clothing is ideal for camping, fishing, hiking, and general travel. You can wear their clothes anywhere, anytime.

Eddie Bauer also believes in sourcing the raw materials for their clothing responsibly, and so they partner with other associations to make sure they’re doing their part for conservation efforts. By and large they use eco-friendly fabrics and ethical manufacturing.

Let’s review the basics: Eddie Bauer is an outdoor and travel clothing brand has comfortable, stylish clothing that’s perfect for men and women travelers for a vast range of activities, and they also focus on conservation efforts! Who doesn’t want to shop there?

Mountain Hardwear : Most Durable Travel Clothes

Two people hiking in the mountains wearing Mountain Hardwear Clothing

Mountain Hardwear is one of those cool brands that craft tough gear that you’ll want to wear forever, and it will last just as long. Seriously, I have a fleece from Mountain Hardwear that I’ve worn up mountains on four continents over five years, and it’s still on the top of my packing list for every trip.

Generally speaking, Mountain Hardwear has a wide range of impressive clothing that will fit just about any traveling dress code. Their travel clothing line includes casual shirts for run-of-the-mill use, heavy-duty adventure gear crafted from exceptionally durable fabrics, travel pants suitable for mountains or museums, and more stylish tops and button-up shirts to dress up for a night out.

Mountain Hardwear’s usefulness for travelers extends beyond clothes. They make an impressive line of backpacks, tents, and sleeping bags to fully equip the adventurous folks out there.

Finally, their fabrics are designed to last in the long run (just like my traveling fleece). Every piece of clothing exhibits excellent construction and quality, making Mountain Hardwear a trustworthy purveyor of all things travel clothing related.

There you go, travelers! We’ve covered the very best travel clothing brands out there to make sure you’re fully kitted out for your next adventure, wherever that may be.

The top travel brands and destinations among Americans in 2022

The top travel brands and destinations among Americans in 2022

When we reflect on 2021 to get a sense of where travel brands sit with consumers in the new year, several companies have reason to be optimistic. A new report from YouGov analyzes the brands and destinations that managed to break through and resonate strongly with consumers over the last year.    Using data from YouGov BrandIndex - which measures consumer perceptions toward brands on a daily basis - we determined our travel rankings, basing them on each brand’s average Impression score over the course of the last year. Impression is a measure of whether a consumer has a positive or negative impression of a brand.

Download the full report for insights into the trends, challenges and opportunities the travel sector faces in 2022  We looked across airlines, hotels, amusement parks and travel agencies to identify the brands that resonated strongly with US consumers to get sense of their standing in 2022.     Leading all travel brands is Marriott—the world’s largest hotel company—with an Impression score of 44.3. Another collection of hotels under Marriott’s branding, Courtyard by Marriott, also earns a spot on the list at number three (37.2). Courtyard by Marriott has the largest global footprint of all brands in Marriott’s portfolio and is expected undergo a major face lift soon in the form of exterior renovations and landscaping updates by 2024.

In no other country do hotels account for more top ten spots than they do in our US ranking. Their stellar performance this year is likely linked to the popularity of domestic travel in the US amid the pandemic.

This wasn’t a story we could research—we had to wait for this one to come to us. A while back, we decided to keep tabs on some of our favorite smaller brands, the ones we stumbled across in the course of our travels, tried out, loved, and have come back to again and again. And now that we have collected enough of these good experiences with great brands, we’re excited to share them with you. They’re diverse in their offerings—from toiletry-kit treasures to ultrapackable jackets—but all share the distinction of being great travel companions that we can vouch for firsthand.

Sea To Summit

Sea To Summit

Even the strictly urban traveler can find something to love in Sea to Summit . The company—which was started by the first climber to scale the entire 29,000 feet of Mt. Everest, from sea level to summit—specializes in well-made, affordable outdoor equipment. Avid adventurers dig Sea to Summit's backpacking gear, but any traveler looking for lightweight travel accessories will appreciate its Travelling Light line. The range of ultralight travel bags, sacks, and cases is constructed with a special fabric known for its strength and durability. And each item weighs a fraction of what you'd normally expect—think 2.4-ounce daypacks and 2.8-ounce hanging toiletry bags .

Anatomie

It's definitely travel-friendly clothing, but you may not recognize it at first since there's nary a front-pleat or zip-off pant in sight. That's because Anatomie takes a different—and very refreshing—approach to the concept. Everything in this line of women's clothing is durable, extremely wrinkle-resistant (even when packed less than perfectly in a suitcase), and comfortable—all musts for travelwear. But unlike the majority of brands that cater to travelers, Anatomie makes elegant, flattering, and stylish clothes. And while this total-package approach to travel-friendly clothing comes with a higher price tag (pants run about $200), the adaptability, utility, and classic style of Anatomie makes any item a wise long-term investment. Plus, the company's dedication to customer service (for instance, you can call and they'll help you decide which pants would be best for your body type) makes the selection and purchase process a breeze.

Flight 001

Would it be an overstatement to say that Flight 001 has changed the way we pack? No, it would not. Over the years, we've relied on the company's six U.S. stores and online shop for bags, clever travel toiletries, jet-lag remedies, packing sacks, and endless gifts for the avid travelers in our lives. And we love it for that. But it wasn't until we bought the F1 Seat Pak , a multipocket organizer with a little loop to hang over the tray-table closure doohickey, that we were able to reinvent how we carry on. With zippered pockets to divide up all the things you'd need on a flight (ranging from your passport to your earplugs), you can pull it out when you get on the plane and not have to fumble around in your carry-on for the rest of the trip. And between trips, items like inflatable travel pillows and eye masks can stay packed and ready to go for next time.

Craghoppers

Craghoppers

Your clothes should have your back. And your front. And, well, pretty much everything in between. That's what we like about Craghoppers , a British outdoor-clothing company that's been keeping adventurers warm, dry, sun-protected, comfortable, and bug-bite-free for nearly 50 years. Its designs offer surprisingly sleek outdoorsy charm and do double-duty with fabrics designed to protect against the best and worst that nature can deliver.

Humangear

The very things that have frustrated us for years about travel-sized refillable containers for toiletries—that we could shake them forever and not get that last bit out, that they're nearly impossible to clean, that they leak, and that we can never remember what we refilled them with last—are totally solved by Humangear 's clever GoToob . GoToobs are soft but durable silicone tubes that you can squeeze every last drop out of (a key feature when you're traveling with minimal amounts of toiletries) and that can be easily disassembled and cleaned. They've also got a built-in labeling system, which means we never have to guess at what's inside. And they've never leaked. Not once. Humangear also makes GoTubb, a small hard-sided container, and a series of other small, clever, travel-friendly products.

Urban Junket

Urban Junket

Fashion-forward. Sturdy. Vegan. Non-toxic. There's a ton we love about the bags produced by Urban Junket , a brand we stumbled across while researching the story Travel Bag Details We Love . These bags win us over again and again with their attractive designs, great internal organization, and cool details like secret middle pockets , portable phone chargers , and pass-through pockets for slipping over the telescoping handles on luggage.

RockItBot

Ladies and gents, it’s time to rethink the wallet. That's the idea behind Etsy's RockItBot shop. Its handmade all-in-one Nerd Herder Gadget Wallets hold traditional items like credit cards, IDs, and cash, but a slightly larger design, fitted felt pockets, and a snug elastic loop create additional safe storage for smartphones or digital cameras. An array of pockets can hold earbuds, SD cards, passports, lip balm, USB devices, business cards, and whatever else you've got that needs herding. An integrated clip can be used for a small set of keys or can attach to a wristlet that turns the wallet into a clutch. We love the range of fabrics (some are a bit more masculine, others slightly more feminine). The shop also sells tablet keepers (with storage similar to the wallet) and other related accessories.

Pad & Quill

Pad & Quill

Minnesota-based Pad & Quill won over SmarterTravel editors by combining gorgeous craftsmanship, local manufacturing, and a surprising way to keep your gear safe with its bags, wallets, and smartphone and tablet cases. The Odyssey Wallet is sized perfectly for travel and fits a passport, a boarding pass, a few credit cards, and money all in one place. And we like the handmade phone and tablet cases not only because they effectively protect electronics as we're toting them around the world but also because they lend us a bit of class as we're doing so. And since they look more like a leather travel journal than an electronics case, they offer a bit of protective camouflage from thieves (unless you happen to be in a place where words are prized more than gadgets).

This Is Ground

This Is Ground

There are a lot of handmade products on this list, and that's no accident. Travel is, in many ways, a handmade pursuit, built of personal interactions, individual discovery, and the sorts of experiences that can't be mass-produced. That spirit is alive and well at This Is Ground , a small Los Angeles-based company that makes by hand leather electronics and cord organizers, wallets, and more. We're particularly impressed with the Cordito , a roll-up organizer for chargers, wires, and power cords. While sandwich bags are the lightest option for taming the cord wilderness in a suitcase, the Cordito offers a far more elegant and personal solution—and one that comes in an impressive array of beautiful colors.

Osprey

Ask people why they're devotees of Osprey backpacks and luggage and you'll usually find it's because the gear is lightweight and well made. Osprey has three options suited to travelers: convertible wheeled packs (most with zip-off daypacks), more traditional wheeled luggage, and backpacking backpacks. Another reason to love the company and its gear? The All Mighty Guarantee , which covers any damage or defect in any Osprey product, regardless of how old it is. Any item that can't be fixed will be replaced. If only all luggage had that kind of protection.

12 Outdoor Brands Every Traveler Should Know About

A year into the pandemic, our collective thirst for the great outdoors is evident. Road trips , camping , and outdoor exploration have become increasingly common themes for travel during this unusual era. For anyone dipping their toes into outdoor adventure, here's one crucial piece of advice: gear is everything . Without the proper clothing, boots, backpacks , tents, and sleeping pads, you and your grand escape simply cannot thrive. (Though if you aren't ready to buy your own, you can always test gear out and rent first .)

If you’re considering a camping, hiking, or backpacking trip sometime soon, you'll want to ensure you've got a handle on the best outdoor brands to shop for gear from. There are the ubiquitous giants—Patagonia, Columbia, Marmot, The North Face—but if you're keen to add a few more to your roster, continue ahead for 12 lesser-known outfitters recommended by the people who know the space best: adventure photographers, explorers, professional surfers, and more.

NEMO Equipment

Best for: sleeping bags and tents.

Worthwhile inventions are often born out of necessity, as was the case with NEMO Equipment . After a “turbulent night on the side of Mount Washington” due to a poorly-designed bivy (a small, lightweight solo shelter used by mountaineers instead of a tent), founder Cam Brensinger created his first airbeam-supported tent. Fast forward 19 years and NEMO now offers a diverse collection of outdoor gear, much of which has picked up awards and recognition from the likes of Time , Popular Science , and even an elite group of Navy SEALs. Outdoors enthusiast and adventure photographer L. Renee Blount recommends NEMO for its quality, durability, and bright colors, and says her most trustworthy sleeping bag is from them.

Image may contain: Tent, Camping, Mountain Tent, and Leisure Activities

Light enough for backpacking but also a great pick for car camping , this bright and light tent offers two doors and vertical walls to make the tent feel more spacious inside.

Comfortable Adventures

Best for: womxn's clothing.

Jeein Shin noticed a deficit in comfortable apparel for the sport when she began outdoor climbing. Citing options that felt either too tight or too technical, she spent 18 months in research and development, then founded Comfortable Adventures . Writer, filmmaker, and nature photographer Johnie Gall swears by their pants. “They are stylish and made with thoughtful but not overtly technical details, like reinforced knees and a belt loop for your chalk bag,” Gall says. “I'm also a big proponent of choosing more regenerative, natural fibers—rip the seams out of these hemp pants and you could compost them.”

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, Footwear, Human, Person, Sandal, Pants, and Shoe

Shin’s star product is made from 55 percent hemp and 45 percent organic cotton and offers a silhouette that’s not tight like leggings nor overly stiff or technical—the Goldilocks of outdoor pants.

Best for: sleeping gear

An outdoor adventure can be swiftly spoiled by a poor night's rest; Klymit ’s focus is solely on preventing this from happening. “When it comes to backpacking, the best sleeping pad I’ve tried is made by Klymit,” Latinxhikers co-founder Luz Lituma says. “The Static Sleeping Air Pad is definitely side-sleeper friendly, takes way fewer breaths to fill, and is super affordable compared to other brands.”

Image may contain: Building, Architecture, Green, Fruit, Plant, Banana, and Food

At 18.7 ounces, this lightweight pad is a smart way to add much-needed comfort to your camping trip.

Image may contain: Furniture, Tent, and Hammock

Sleep under the stars in this stable hammock that features dual foot straps and wings and can accommodate up to 300 pounds.

Best for: backpacks, clothing

Davis Smith named his outdoor brand Cotopaxi after an active volcano in the Ecuadorian region of the Andes. His clothing and gear are favorites among outdoors enthusiasts, including Travis Welch, an alumni trips coordinator at NOLS, a global wilderness school . “These days, we want more out of our brands than simple good gear and Cotopaxi fits the bill,” Welch says. “They're not scared of using colors, have great corporate values, and fund grants related to international poverty relief .” The product Welch uses most is the Luzon 18L pack: “It's lightweight, compact, and durable, so I have it in my checked luggage all the time,” he says. “My Luzon has been on five continents with me.”

Image may contain: Bag, Shopping Bag, Sack, and Tote Bag

Each and every Del Día pack is one-of-a-kind, made from 100 percent repurposed fabric, and comes in its own unique colorway.

Best for: lightweight gear

Spend enough time adventuring outdoors and you'll learn how important lightweight gear is. Quinn Brett , an adventurer and multi-record breaking athlete, swears by Hyperlite 's backpacks and stuff sacks. “They're all incredibly lightweight and easily packable. They are not dry bags, in the traditional sense, but the roll-top stuff sacks keep stuff dry almost the same,” she explains. In October 2017, Brett fell over 100 feet while climbing on El Capitan in Yosemite National Park , leaving her currently paralyzed from the waist down. “I used [Hyperlite's sacks] solely when I was rock climbing and adventuring throughout the world and a variety of climates. Now, they are still my go-to on hand-cycle bike packing trips and backcountry hut trips.”

Image may contain: Backpack, and Bag

Great for backpacking and thru-hiking, this size backpack is best used for trips between one and four days.

Wintergreen Northern Wear

Best for: winter clothing.

Wintergreen Northern Wear has been operating on Ely, Minnesota's main street for over 30 years. “The gear is bulletproof,” Outward Bound Instructor Brian Minor says. “I have a beloved smoke-stained anorak that I've worn for hundreds of winter expedition days in the Boundary Waters.” His top pick for Nordic skiing as well as casual wear is the Hansen Merino Wool Hoodie . “It has a thick fabric with a simple look—no superfluous pockets or zippers.”

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, Fleece, and Hat

Crafted from Polartec Wind Pro fleece, Wintergreen's classic beanie features an embroidered trim and tassel to finish.

Best for: cooking gear, portable lamps, and chargers

Energy poverty is at the core of BioLite 's mission. In 2008, the founders attended a conference that shed light on the jarring fact that “half the planet lives in energy poverty, lacking safe and reliable ways to cook, charge, and light their lives.” They refocused their strategy to cut fuel consumption and reduce toxic emissions. Photographer and digital creator Angela Liguori relies on BioLite’s 330 Headlamp for her outdoor adventures. “It's rechargeable and lasts for days, so you're able to use it on a multi-day backcountry trip,” she says. “It's the only headlamp I trust when I'm outside and the sun has set.”

Image may contain: Lighter

This kit comes with a portable grill, kettle pot, and coffee press and can even charge your devices.

Black Diamond Equipment

Best for: outdoor clothing, shoes, and accessories.

For Chris Burkard , an explorer, photographer, and author, “it's often the brands that focus on making the best product—not focusing on a specific sport—that truly shine through.” Black Diamond , the offshoot brand started by Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard, fits the bill. “It was created as a hard-goods company that has evolved [into] the leading outerwear brand for anyone wanting to be in the wild,” he says. “Their materials are space age and their designs are timeless. It doesn't matter if I am spending the day at the beach or at the crag, their gear goes with me.”

Image may contain: Stick, and Cane

Add stability to your hikes with a set of poles; these offer a three-section aluminum shaft.

Best for: backpacks, clothing, shoes

Navigating Goliath brands like Nike can be a challenge, particularly when you're looking for a product that will pull its own weight in the great outdoors. For Hike Clerb founder and executive director Evelynn Escobar-Thomas , Nike's outdoors-centric ACG (All Conditions Gear) line delivers on its promise. “I wear ACG when I'm hiking, camping, or just running around Los Angeles,” she says. “My current obsession is the Mountain Fly . They're my go-to hiking shoes and are perfect for wet and dry terrain.”

Image may contain: Clothing, Apparel, Pants, Khaki, Human, and Person

These 75 percent recycled polyester and nylon fiber pants are inspired by Oregon’s Smith Rock.

Best for: sustainable athleisure

For obvious reasons, sustainability is at the heart of most outdoor brands, including California-based prAna . Their commitment to the planet means prioritizing organic and recycled fabrics, an ethical supply chain, fair labor practices, and responsible packaging. For professional surfer Anna Ehrgott , it's a brand worth getting behind. “The one piece that I have no idea how I dressed myself before I owned is their Sancho Pant —I own three colors and wear them 90 percent of the time.”

Image may contain: Clothing, Shorts, and Apparel

A good pair of board shorts make it easier to stop for a quick dip on a road trip or summer surf trip.

Peak Design

Best for: bags, camera gear.

After a four month trip around the world, Peak Design founder Peter Dering came home, quit his full-time job, and created a device to make traveling with a professional camera easier. Ronald Vernon Edward Griswell , founder and CEO of HBCUs Outside , is a fan: “They make beautifully-crafted and innovative pieces that help keep my gear more accessible, organized, and protected,” he explains. “I use their Everyday 30L Backpack for excursions big and small.” Edward also notes the brand is Climate Neutral Certified and a signee of the Outdoor CEO Pledge, "working towards a more diverse and inclusive environment.”

Image may contain: Backpack, Bag, and Luggage

This sleek backpack is crafted from recycled post-consumer material and has a waterproof bottom liner. Griswell fits camera gear, snacks, extra clothes, sunglasses, laptop, and power banks inside.

Eddie Bauer

Best for: outdoor gear, family clothing, footwear.

Beginning with his small Seattle store opened in 1920 that sold and strung tennis rackets all the way to outfitting K2 and Everest ascents, Eddie Bauer has helped define the outdoor experience for over 100 years. Now, a new generation of travelers have taken to the legacy label, like photographer and adventurer Brooke Weeber . “I love how affordable and size inclusive their clothing is,” she says. “My most prized Eddie Bauer item is the Trail Tight . The fabric is thick enough to keep you warm on a cold winter trail but light enough for spring and summer nights.”

Image may contain: Clothing, Shoe, Footwear, and Apparel

These hiking boots are waterproof and provide great traction thanks to their lug design using Vibram XS Trek rubber compound.

T+L Editors Reveal the 21 Gifts They've Secretly Been Wanting All Year

From comfy Allbirds sneakers to Parisian pastries, here’s what we really want this season.

travel related brands

If you click on links we provide, we may receive compensation.

Travel + Leisure / Madison Woiten

When it comes to gift-giving, the holiday season can be both a blessing and a curse — after all, finding the perfect gift for a loved one can be fun, but it can also be pricey, confusing, and all-around stressful. And if someone on your list asks for a custom-made or hard-to-come-by item? Making it happen can feel like a project.

That’s why the Travel + Leisure team got together and compiled a list of the items we’re gifting and hoping to receive ourselves this year. Some of them are must-haves specifically for travelers, but many of them are likely to be well-received by anyone on your list. The best part is that a handful of these items are up to 50 percent off right now! From a Calpak duffel bag to comfy Allbirds shoes to festive baked goods , here’s everything we’re gifting this year.

Troubadour Carrier Tote

Troubadour Goods

If you’ve been on the lookout for a carry-all that’s both functional and stylish, Troubadour’s Carrier Tote may be the bag for you. It’s structured and sturdy; plus, it’s waterproof, so it’s sure to hold up well through travel of all types. It’s also quite secure thanks to a subtle zip-top opening. Traveling with tech? The Carrier Tote has a dedicated padded laptop compartment as well as a quick-access pocket for your phone. You can even slightly change the size of the bag with built-in side snaps to better suit what you’re carrying.

“I'm gifting this stylish bag to my best friend this year (I hope she doesn't see this before opening!),” Updates Writer Taylor Fox said. “She travels a lot for work and this is the perfect-sized bag for overnight and weekend trips alike; plus, it looks elevated and sophisticated. With plenty of pockets and durable carrying straps, travelers using this tote can stay organized on the go, no matter where their 2024 adventures take them.”

Allbirds Men's Wool Runner Mizzles

Allbirds is arguably the internet’s favorite comfy shoe brand, so consider gifting a pair this year. We especially like the Wool Runner Mizzles for their cozy merino wool uppers and water-repellent construction. Travelers can walk or run through pretty much anything when they’ve got these on without ever experiencing pain, soreness, or excessive moisture. They come in 14 colors ranging from Natural Black to Thrive Teal — some of which are up to $51 off right now.

“I finally picked up on my husband's hints and got him these sleek, water-repellent Allbirds,” Senior Editor Kayla Becker said. “They're the shoes everyone wants, thanks in part to celebs like Ashton Kutcher rocking the brand. But they're not just stylish; they're also super comfortable, durable, and great for all-day walking (even in the rain), which I think will come in handy when we go on trips this year.”

Marmot WarmCube Active Novus Jacket

It may not look like it, but this jacket from Marmot is one of the warmest we’ve worn all year. It has a unique cube construction that offers comfort, warmth, and style, and it falls perfectly to the waist for optimal coverage in cold weather. It even features zippered hand warmer pockets and an adjustable drawcord hem to really lock in heat, plus multiple layers of insulation that will keep you warm even if the jacket gets wet. The WarmCube Active Novus comes in five sizes and three colors, and we may just be adding all three shades to our holiday list.

“After getting so much use out of this jacket myself last fall and winter, I'm gifting one to a family member this year,” Senior Editor Lydia Price said. “The cube design is incredible for retaining heat despite a light, breathable, and slim build. I found it perfect to use as a mid-layer for skiing and as an outer layer during transitional weather. Anyone who contends with a cold climate will find themselves reaching for this jacket again and again.”

Calpak Luka Duffel

Most avid travelers would agree that they can never have too many luggage options, so consider gifting them the Calpak Luka Duffel this year. While structured, this soft bag easily folds and squishes down to be stowed under the airplane seat in front of you, or into a closet at home. Beyond its convenient storage capabilities, it also boasts luxury features like a sturdy trolley sleeve, separate shoe compartment, and durable material. The straps are crafted in a way that prevents them from digging into your shoulders no matter how much you stuff inside, and plenty of interior pockets help keep things organized. We especially love that it’s available in 21 colors ranging from neutrals to metallics.

“I refuse to use anything but a weekender bag as a carry-on when I fly,” Associate Editor Hillary Maglin said. “I recently started using Calpak's Luka Duffel and it became my new favorite travel bag pretty much immediately. It's super soft making it comfy to carry, and it's quite spacious while remaining within carry-on size limits. I've been stopped by multiple strangers asking where I got the bag, and even my boyfriend who initially referred to it as my ‘space bag’ (I have it in the metallic gold shade) admitted it's a pretty efficient travel duffel. He just might be receiving his own this holiday season.”

Boll & Branch Signature Long Sleeve & Pants Pajama Set

Boll & Branch

There’s something about these Boll & Branch pajamas that remind us of a spa day — not just because of the zen hues they’re available in, but also because of their unbelievably soft and breathable stitch. Made with 100 percent organic long-staple cotton, these pajamas are comfy enough to wear all night and day. There’s some subtle ruching at the shoulders and on the back for a touch of femininity, and there’s both a chest pocket and an elastic waist with a drawstring string closure for added functionality. As luck would have it, they also happen to be on sale right now. Whomever your gift recipient is, they’ll likely thank you for such a luxe and comfy present.

“Cotton pajamas are my go-to since they work in any season, and I’ve never felt more luxe than when wearing this set from Boll & Branch,” Associate Editorial Director Morgan Ashley Parker said. “They’ve gotten even softer with wear and, since my mother has been eyeing mine with envy, she’ll surely find these under the tree this year. I personally prefer the long sleeve and pants PJs but there’s also a shorts set and a sleepshirt as well.”

Cozy Earth Bamboo Sheet Set

If your giftee has a thing for the super comfy beds found in their favorite hotels, Cozy Earth’s Bamboo Sheet Set is right up their alley. These extra-soft sheets are made with 100 percent viscose from bamboo fabric, and they feel just as luxurious as that dreamy bed from their last vacation. They even made Oprah’s Favorite Things list in 2018 — they’re that comfy. Plus, they’re designed to prevent you from feeling too hot or too cold. You can snag the sheet set in 13 colors and six sizes including split king. And right now, all sizes and colors are 30 percent off.

“These temperature-regulating sheets from Cozy Earth are buttery soft and easily the most luxurious thing I own,” Editor Sophie Mendel said. “These have seriously upgraded my sleep experience by keeping me cozy and cool all night long. They’re the perfect gift for anyone trying to get a better night's sleep or make their room feel like a five-star hotel.”

HP Sprocket 3x4 Photo Printer

While it’s nice to keep your favorite photos stored digitally on your phone, there’s something exciting about an old-fashioned printed photo. The easiest way to get images from your phone onto paper is with HP’s Sprocket 3x4 Photo Printer. This tiny device produces vibrant, high-quality photos in seconds using zero ink technology. We’ve been obsessed with it all year — and we’re pretty sure every traveler and nostalgic loved one on your shopping list will feel the same way.

“I can't say enough great things about this adorable mini photo printer,” Mendel said. “The perfect gift for travel lovers, you can send photos directly from your phone to this portable printer for quick, instant, high-quality printing. You'll get cute mini prints on sticker paper, perfect for gifting or keeping for yourself to hang on the fridge or stick in your travel notebook to remind you of your favorite trip memories.”

Sprinkles Holiday Assorted Dozen

When it comes to cupcakes, many connoisseurs will tell you there’s nothing better than Sprinkles. If you’ve got a loved one with a sweet tooth, they’re sure to appreciate a box of assorted Sprinkles cupcakes delivered right to their doorstep. While you can’t customize this particular box, you’ll be pleased to know it includes four vanilla, four red velvet, and four chocolate peppermint cupcakes, each decorated with holiday-themed sprinkles, candies, and fondant. This gift box may seem a bit pricey, but keep in mind that Sprinkles cupcakes are extra-large — and also wildly delicious.

“I’m not able to attend my BFF’s Christmas party this year but I’ve got plans to send Sprinkles' holiday box of cupcakes in my place,” Parker said. “The set of 12 includes her favorite (red velvet) along with classic vanilla and a chocolate peppermint that I wish I was there in person to taste for myself. These sweet treats can be shipped anywhere nationwide — and I may just add in a box of pupcakes for her pooch, too.”

The Dermstore Holiday Beauty Box

If you’re not into transferring your cosmetics and skincare products from their original packaging into travel-sized tubes every time you hit the road, consider adding the Dermstore Holiday Beauty Box to your wishlist. It’s packed with 21 high-end products from brands like Supergoop!, Kate Somerville, Caudalie, and more, and the best part is they’re already in TSA-compliant bottles and tubes. The box is valued at more than $750, but you can take it home for just over $100.

“This box is filled with a variety of travel-size luxury skincare goodies to pack on your next trip,” Writer Anna Popp said. “I love that all of the products are small and under 3.4 ounces, which makes it the perfect gift for someone who travels frequently and also enjoys nice skincare products.”

Rebecca Minkoff Simple Chain Tote

Nordstrom Rack

Looking for the perfect present for your fashion-forward friend? Go for the Rebecca Minkoff Simple Chain Tote. It’s roomy enough to fit plenty of essentials without feeling oversized or heavy, and it matches with pretty much everything. It’s also classically sleek and stylish, so you’ll never have to feel like you sacrificed appearance for function. We like to use it as a carry-on for shorter trips and as our everyday commuter bag since it’s durable enough to handle moderate wear. If you buy it now, you’ll score 55 percent off the original price.

“With so many black tote bags on the market, it's hard to find one that's strong enough to haul your stuff while still standing out from the crowd,” Testing Editor Jackie Cucco said. “I always get compliments on this one from Rebecca Minkoff, which has an edgier look thanks to the shiny leather and thick, silver chain. It's also so spacious and lightweight.”

Kelty Tru Comfort Doublewide Sleeping Bag

Give your camping pals the gift of comfort this holiday season! The Tru Comfort Doublewide Sleeping Bag by Kelty is just about as cozy as it gets when it comes to sleeping bags. It’s equipped with CloudLoft insulation, two foot vents, two built-in blankets, a zip-off top layer, and even a stuff sack for easy carrying. It’s also crafted with temperature-regulating technology, so you can bring this with you no matter the time of year. The best part? It’s large enough for two people.

“As frequent campers (and city dwellers), my husband and I are always trying to figure out how to downsize our gear without sacrificing comfort,” Fox said. “This doublewide sleeping bag is the perfect solution as it minimizes what we have to carry and store, but keeps us both warm throughout all of our camping adventures. It makes a great gift for camping couples or families and can even unzip fully to use as a picnic blanket or wear while cozied up around the fire.”

Smith Glide Jr. MIPS Helmet

Know a kiddo who’s preparing to hit the slopes for the first time this winter? Smith’s Glide Jr. MIPS Helmet is the gift they’ll need. Smith is known for its reliable ski gear, and this helmet is specially designed to protect children’s skulls from impact. Beyond that, this helmet is also quite lightweight, warm, and ventilated to keep little ones’ heads from sweating and goggles from fogging up. The Glide Jr. comes in three sizes and five colors ranging from white to cobalt.

“My nephew is starting his first ski season this year, and there's no one I trust his little noggin with more than Smith,” Price said. “I've worn the brand's ski goggles and helmets for years while honing my skills on and off-piste. They're some of the most comfortable pieces of equipment on the market, and, more importantly, they use the crème de la crème of protective technology. The Glide Jr. MIPS takes after Smith's premium adult helmets with a multi-directional impact protection system (MIPS) that reduces rotational forces on the head upon impact. He'll be rocking the helmet in the vibrant cobalt color for our family trip to Tahoe.”

Pluto Pod Travel Pillow

You may have used travel pillows before, but you likely haven’t used a travel pillow like the Pluto Pod. Unlike most travel pillows that just sit around your neck, the Pod wraps around your neck and head like a hood or space suit. It offers support and soft cushioning from every direction so that you’re virtually guaranteed restful sleep on your next long-haul flight or road trip. Adjusting the fit of the Pod is easy, and when it’s not in use, you can simply roll it up into itself and stow it in your carry-on. It may look a little silly, but you’ll have the last laugh when you hop off the plane fully rested and free of neck pain.

“I do a ton of research and testing on travel pillows as a T+L shopping editor, and I've found they aren't all one size fits all,” Price said. “That being said, the Pluto Pod is a perfect gift for light sleepers who take long-haul journeys. It provides ample neck support without feeling too constrictive, and the overhead design is great for blocking out light and noise. It really helps to give the illusion of privacy on public transit, and the germ-wary will appreciate extra peace of mind from full head and face coverage. I expect my giftee will appreciate the thoughtfulness that went into this perfectly tailored pick.”

Stubbs and Wooten Shaken Stirred Slippers

Whitney Robinson International

We doubt you’ll find a cooler pair of slippers than these. The James Bond-inspired unisex slippers nod to one of the spy’s most famous catchphrases without feeling kitschy, and the black velvet uppers offer an air of sophistication. The comfy and supportive kicks can be worn both indoors and outdoors thanks to their leather interior paired with stacked wooden heels. They’re also made-to-order, which is reflected in the price and wait time, but there’s no better gift for the suave Bond-lover in your life.

“My husband is a martini man who also happens to have a thing for shoes,” Editor-in-chief Jacqui Gifford said. “This Stubbs and Wootten collaboration between the Four Seasons Ocean Club — a Bahamian resort where James Bond was once filmed — and design star Whitney Robinson hits all the right notes. Black velvet shoes to wear with a black tie on the beach or on a cold winter's night? How very 007.”

Roverlund Out-of-office Carrier in Pink

Tend to travel with your pet in tow? Add Roverlund’s Out-of-office Carrier to your list this year. It’s perfect for you since it’s lightweight and comfy to carry, but your fur baby will love it, too, for its spacious interior and sturdy bottom. It has mesh panels on three sides for your pet to see out of and get some air, and it has multiple zip openings to help ease your pup or kitty in and out. There are even two different sizes available: a small 17-inch carrier that holds pets up to 15 pounds, and a large 19-inch option that holds up to 25 pounds.

“My dog loves his black-and-yellow Roverlund carrier and the bag has just been released in hot pink, perfect for Barbie vibes this year,” Parker said. “I’m recommending it to the parents of my pup's ‘girlfriend’ so they can have matching styles on their next trip. My favorite thing about this carrier is that the crossbody strap doubles as a leash so I don’t need to stash that away or have him get tangled up with one on while inside the bag.”

Bedhead Pajamas Paris Promenade PJ Set

Bedhead PJS

Got someone on your list who’s dazzled by all things Parisian? This pajama set from Bedhead is perfect for them, and it’s just as comfy as it is cute. The long-sleeve set is made from organically grown cotton jersey material which is cozy as can be, and the whimsical Paris print paired with contrasting piping just feels stylish and fun. It even boasts side pockets on the pants and a chest pocket on the top, plus it comes in eight sizes. Perhaps the most exciting thing about the PJ set, though, is it’s currently 50 percent off.

“Fun PJ sets are my favorite gift to give to friends and family, and this year I went with Bedhead Pajamas since they have tons of fun travel-themed prints like this Paris one,” Popp said. “The PJs are super soft and breathable so they can be worn year-round and it's the perfect way to live vicariously through travel memories in your favorite cities while cozying up at home.”

Ladurée Eugénie Gift Box

Got a cookie lover on your list? Trust us when we tell you they need Ladurée’s Eugénie in their life. Ladurée, a famed French bakery known for its incredible macarons, released the new Eugénie this year, which is basically a crunchy shortbread cookie with a melting center and chocolate coating. They’re available in eight flavors including chocolate, blackcurrant violet, and Marie-Antoinette tea, and most flavors come in cheerful pastel colors sure to remind you of Paris. And luckily for all of us, the store ships its treats worldwide.

“I got my hands on a box of these a few months ago and have not stopped thinking of them since,” Maglin said. “Not only are they one of the most mouth-watering confections I've ever tasted, but they also had me daydreaming of Parisian cafes with every bite. If you or someone on your shopping list is obsessed with French sweets, the Eugénie is a must. I'm hoping to find a box of them under the tree this Christmas.”

Haricot Vert ‘Dear Diary’ Custom Earrings

Haricotvert

Custom-made presents are equally as fun to create as they are to receive. That said, we’re loving these custom earrings by Haricot Vert. Just choose 6 to 10 charms from a menu of 128 options, and Haricot Vert will put together a totally unique pair of dangle earrings for you (or your giftee). Some of our favorite charms include an artichoke, a disco ball, Saturn, and a tiny lemon painting, but there are dozens more worth adding to your earrings. Once you’ve chosen your charms, you can also choose your preferred metal color and hardware. If you go for the deluxe option, you’ll even be prompted for your Instagram handle and overall vibe so Haricot Vert can create something perfectly “you.”

“Who doesn't love adorable custom accessories as a gift for the holidays? I love my Haricot Vert earrings, and designing them was half the fun,” Associate Photo Editor Alessandra Amodio said. “Not only do they make an incredible gift, but they are also my new favorite accessory to wear while traveling. The ‘Dear Diary’ option lets you pick from over 100 charms where you then describe your ‘vibe’ to aid the designing process. Since I'm forever in my ‘tomato-girl era,’ and a lover of all things martinis and Italy, my earrings reflect that with charms ranging from wine, tomatoes, and cheese to a little statue bust and a dirty martini. They’re the perfect gift for any travel-loving creative. If designing a pair is too much pressure, pre-designed pairs like the Radis Au Beurre and Rue de le Villette are great for any French-obsessed friend.”

Dior Limited Edition Rouge Dior Minaudière Clutch

This pre-filled metal makeup clutch is the definition of luxury — which feels like a statement of the obvious, considering the designer is Dior. The gift set comes with not only a stunning gold clutch featuring the Dior logo, but also four of the brand’s coveted lipstick shades. Your gift recipient can also easily remove the lipsticks and fill the clutch with other makeup or essentials depending on where they’re headed. You can even have it engraved for free before checking out. And because the clutch is on the smaller side, it’s great for packing away in luggage.

“Packing purses to travel with has always been a difficulty of mine which is what makes this the perfect gift for any beauty-loving bestie,” Amodio said. “Not only do you get to try out four shades of Dior's famously gorgeous lipsticks, but they come packed away neatly in an elegant golden metal clutch. Inside, you get a Rouge Dior lipstick in the iconic 999 and three refills in varying shades along with a chain to convert this chic clutch into a shoulder bag. It’s truly the perfect day-to-night (or night-to-day) purse that you already know will hold all your lipsticks. Plus, with that incredible Dior packaging (and a free sample or two), who wouldn't want to open this up for the holidays?”

Cartolina Harriet Sweater

A quality sweater is a classic holiday gift, and this year, we’re loving this one from Cartolina. It’s oversized yet flattering and it’s made of ultra-soft cashmere. A mock neck works to lock in warmth while a flowing bottom keeps shoppers from overheating or feeling restricted. Just to up the style ante, Cartolina has added a small slit on the bottom of either side. The sweater comes in two colors — black and marled biscuit — and six sizes ranging from XXS to XL.

“Cashmere is pretty much the perfect gift in my opinion, and this versatile sweater is so cozy while instantly elevating any outfit,” Fox said. “Cartolina has a series of plush sweaters, but I love that this turtle neck is the type of present you open and immediately want to wear to your next holiday party — and all winter long.”

The Renzoe Box has to be one of the coolest and most convenient ways to package makeup for traveling (or even for everyday styling). The box allows shoppers to customize their own palette of makeup products, but here’s the kicker: you can include products from different brands . Basically, this box combines the best of your favorite cosmetic brands like Tarte, Mac, Nars, Estée Lauder, Chanel, Smashbox, and more all in one convenient place. And unlike most palettes that only include one type of product, like eye shadow, this box lets you add everything from bronzer and highlighter to concealer and lipstick.

“I recently tried out Renzoe Box and it’s such a stunning makeup set for travel,” Parker said. “Instead of packing different cosmetics, you customize up to seven ‘pods’ of high-end products (think Dior, Hourglass, Charlotte Tilbury, and more) to fit in the compact case. The box has a spot for non-pod products at the bottom and even includes brushes to perfectly fit in the side cylinder. I love that there are pre-made options plus a giftable one where you share skin, hair, and eye color details about your loved one instead.”

U.S. Travel Brands Hop on TikTok Marketing to Reach Next-Gen Travelers

Sean O'Neill, Skift

August 31st, 2021 at 1:15 PM EDT

TikTok is finally becoming a promising tool for travel marketers. But brands should expect a lot of trial and error. This social video app isn't just Instagram or YouTube by another name.

Social video app TikTok is best known for animals performing tricks , people doing stylized and hip dance moves , and random events such as a baby being born mid-flight . But TikTok’s usefulness for travel marketing to Gen Z and younger millennials is becoming more apparent for U.S. travel brands who are seeing the success of foreign brands on the platform.

Delta Air Lines this week launched its first TikTok campaign in the U.S. The carrier asked app users to post a short video about their favorite trip and tag the post with #FavoriteTripChallengeHashtag. The app said the campaign garnered over 19.5 million views in its first 36 hours, thanks partly to a partnership with TikTok.

Several U.S. travel brands had hesitated to engage with TikTok in contractural ways until recently. Executives were nervous about some uncertainty about the app’s status in the U.S. A year ago, the Trump Administration attempted to effectively banish the app from Apple’s and Alphabet’s Google app stores, but courts prevented the ban. In June, U.S. President Joe Biden revoked the related executive orders, dispelling most of the clouds.

During the uncertainty, a few U.S. travel brands turned to “organic” efforts, engaging TikTok users via posts without paying the company to promote or coordinate campaigns, such as United Airlines ‘ April TikTok video encouraging travel and touting exclusive discounts for Gen Z travelers.

This year Marriott’s loyalty program Bonvoy ran an organic “Travel Makes Us” campaign, encouraging the community to create their own travel videos using Marriott’s custom song and hashtag montages. Posts with the hashtag #TravelMakesUs, such as this one , collectively drew 4.3 million views.

But U.S. travel brands have this year also begun having formal partnerships with TikTok to improve their results. American Airlines on August 2 began letting passengers access TikTok on their phones in-flight for up to half an hour without having to purchase Wi-Fi access if the planes are Viasat-equipped narrowbody aircraft.

Screenshot of pop star Jason Derulo’s short video touting Hotwire on TikTok.

In June, Expedia Group-owned Hotwire launched the first travel-related hashtag challenge in the U.S. The brand paid approximately 20 creators to create short videos showing why they were ready for a getaway and where they would like to go. The best video had a chance to win a $50,000 trip on a private jet. Hotwire hired pop star Jason Derulo , who has more than 47 million followers on TikTok, as a contest judge.

Currently, the hashtag #HotwireHotelGoals has 11.7 billion views. Yes, billion with a b. That’s thanks to a partnership with TikTok to promote the visibility of the related video clips. Digiday , an advertising news service, estimated that the cost of working with a top social media influencer on a hashtag challenge can reach the six figures .

In May, Expedia Group’s Orbitz brand — which recently began emphasizing its search filters aimed at helping LGBTQ+ travelers plan trips — paid a few creators to create ads, such as this one from influencer Everett Williams , to support a hashtag challenge .

U.S. Brands Playing Catch-up

Travel brands outside of the U.S. have long appreciated the power of TikTok videos to raise awareness about their brands.

Travel-related hashtags for videos on the app draw many views, according to TikTok, which launched in 2018. Examples using data from countries outside of China (which has a different and older app, Douyin, with different data) include #travel  having drawn 49.3 billion views, with 3.8 million videos created under the hashtag #travel as of May 2021. The hashtag #tiktoktravel has drawn 24.5 billion views; #wanderlust has attracted 1.1 billion views, and #traveldiaries  has generated 2.2 billion views.

Roughly half of TikTok’s audience is under age 34 , according to the consultancy Omni Core Agency. These young independent travelers may be among the first tourists to embark on international travel as restrictions ease, according to data analytics firm GlobalData .

But these younger consumers may not have much disposable income yet to plan trips and the types drawn to TikTok may be, for lack of a better word, changeable in their tastes.

Marketing on TikTok Is Unpredictable Due to Its Different Formula

A couple of social media influencers have reported that TikTok travel marketing can be “ unpredictable .”

The unpredictability partly comes from the TikTok algorithm, which favors “long-tail content.” It appears to be different from the kind used by U.S.-based social media platforms, which have tended to favor content with mass appeal in a traditional, crowd-pleasing sense.

Travel marketers that try to just repurpose content that was already popular on Instagram or other platforms on TikTok may be disappointed because TikTok works differently. TikTok essentially makes sure that a video created by anyone, no matter how unknown, will be exposed to at least some users. It doesn’t just re-broadcast what has already proven popular. The more a user watches and engages with content, the better the app gets at pushing to the user videos that may match their interests, hobbies, or tastes.

Not every travel marketing attempt on TikTok is a wild success either. In late August, the Kenya Tourism Board , the International Fund for Animal Welfare , and Conservation International are teaming up to broadcast on TikTok a live wildlife event in the Maasai Mara National Reserve in Kenya to raise awareness about the need for wildlife protection.

The event was hosted intermittently over a few days on TikTok’s official Africa-themed page and pushed into many people’s feeds. But the hashtag challenge didn’t come up with much content around either the Great Wildebeest Migration or conservation in general, according to Skift’s anecdotal searches.

What’s more: TikTok isn’t welcome everywhere. India banned the app last year. And many travel marketers remain cautious. A survey of 216 travel marketers worldwide found 97 believed that budget or ad spend recovery wouldn’t happen until between 2025 and 2030 — and another 38 travel marketers thought the recovery wouldn’t happen until “after 2030.” The survey was by the consultancy WBR (Worldwide Business Research) Insights and travel ad tech firm Sojern .

Another problem is, broadly speaking, that the ad tech companies favored by many travel businesses haven’t yet joined TikTok’s marketing partner program , making it trickier to run coordinated, cross-channel campaigns.

Travel Brands Try TikTok Marketing With Some Success

Still, some mid-market travel brands in Europe, in particular, have been ahead of the world in experimenting to see what works on TikTok. Some well-timed campaigns hit a chord with app users. Baleària , which offers a ferry service in Spain connecting popular destinations such as Mallorca and Eivissa with ports such as Barcelona and Valencia launched this summer a hashtag challenge to encourage potential passengers to share their ideas for the dream vacation.

To make things easier for brands to market to users, TikTok has been coming up with additional tools. In July, it launched a “spark ads” product with a native ad display format. The ads let brands boost the number of views of organically created posts or share relevant content posted by creators in the feeds TikTokk can actively push users.

The potential for travel brands to use the new ad format may be material, though brands must experiment to find out. In theory, if an organic piece of content from a creator gained traction and was on-message for a travel brand with a TikTok for Business account, the brand could amplify the post’s visibility amongst user-generated content through the paid service.

Yet of now, no travel-specific brand has used the service yet, a TikTok spokesperson said. Regardless, the pandemic has prompted a rethink in the travel creator economy, as tourism boards and brands reinvent their business models and messaging priorities — as Skift recently analyzed in “ Travel’s Creator Economy Resets for Next Boom .” For more context, see yesterday’s story Social Media Influencers Sync With Startup Tools to Sell Travel .

"We Envision Growth Strategies Most Suited to Your Business"

Increasing Introduction of Duty-free Campaigns to Boost the Market for Top Travel Retail Companies

February 01, 2023 | Consumer Goods

The travel retail industry revolves around cruise ships, airport duty-free shops, and airlines. The industry is made up of four primary channels, each of which is completely unique. Each channel has a different passenger profile, consumer behavior, and business dynamics.

Fortune Business Insights stated that the global market size for travel retail was valued at USD 51.28 billion in 2021. The global market is projected to grow from USD 55.74 billion in 2022 to USD 96.11 billion by 2029, exhibiting a CAGR of 8.1% during the forecast period.

Below mentioned are the four types of travel retail platforms:

  •   Airport

Airports across the world have stores in the terminals for arrivals and departures, allowing passengers to shop while on the go. In terms of sales and the number of passengers, it is the largest channel in the travel retail sector and the key growth engine for the sector.

  •   Aircraft

Pre-ordered or in-flight purchases of goods are possible during flights, and both digital entertainment options and paper catalogs are accessible. It is a channel that commands the full attention of passengers yet necessitates carefully chosen strategic merchandise and meticulous attention to detail to ensure success.

  • Cruise Ship

Cruise ship allows for possibilities for shopping at sea while moving between ports globally, allowing passengers to utilize the long transit time to repeatedly explore travel retail offerings. Cruise ships offer the market a rapid growth trajectory, particularly as young passengers have an inclination to become more popular.

  • Downtown Duty-free

It offers opportunities for shopping that let visitors from other countries buy tax-free goods right away or reserve them to pick up after customs at the airport. It is a channel that focuses on the rapidly expanding trend of duty-free shopping outside of the typical channels, particularly in the Asia Pacific region.

Below mentioned are the top 10 travel retail companies around the world:

1. Lagardère Group

Lagardère Group is an international group headquartered in Paris, France, with operations in more than 40 countries worldwide. The group started functioning in 1852. The company houses Burberry, Gucci, Hermes, and Victoria's Secret products and adopts various strategies such as acquisitions and partnerships to grow its sales.

DFS is a luxury travel retailer established in 1960 and headquartered in Hong Kong. The company has around 400 boutiques spread over 13 countries offering high-end products.

3. Dufry AG

4. King Power International Group

The group provides duty-free beauty & cosmetics, fashion, and electronic products for travelers in its retail stores. It mainly focuses on competitive strategies such as collaborations and joint ventures with various luxury brands to generate higher revenue.

5. DAA (Aer Rianta International)

Aer Rianta International, headquartered in Dublin and established in 1988, is one of the significant players in the global market. The company manages and owns duty-free retail outlets in Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, and the Americas.

6. Delhi Duty-Free Services Pvt. Ltd.

The company's flagship store is at Delhi International Airport. It also has 11 stores that offer products such as watches & jewelry, toiletries & cosmetics, apparel, liquor, and tobacco products. Established in 1984, China Duty-Free Group is a state-owned organization that operates duty-free businesses across China. It works in 90 cities across 30 provinces of China and has over 200 retail stores. The company strongly focuses on launching new stores and introducing innovative products.

In December 2021, the company launched its first flagship store, CDF Macau Grand Lisboa Palace Shop, in Macau, China. The store offers over 170 brands of fashion, watches, accessories, cosmetic products, jewelry, perfumes, culinary delights, wines, and souvenirs.

10. Abu Dhabi Duty-Free

Established in 1984, Abu Dhabi Duty-Free operates and manages retail, food & beverage, and service operations in the airport's facilities. The group offers an array of duty-free products, high-street stores, luxury boutiques, and theme-based dining outlets. Abu Dhabi Duty-Free's product categories include beauty, fragrances, watches, toys, food, and souvenirs. The company aims to open new stores in airports and cruises to promote its brands.

Duty-free Campaigns are Regularly Offered by Retailers to Increase Product Demand

Nowadays, leading businesses use marketing campaigns to entice customers to purchase duty-free goods. For the higher-income airport traveler groups, businesses also consistently offer high-quality, privately labeled goods and services. The product sales at the airport's retail stores are expected to be aided by the above-mentioned factors.

9 Best Color Palettes For Travel Websites in 2023 (+ Examples)

By Kristie Parker

9 Travel Websites with Stellar Color Schemes

We’ve compiled a list of 9 travel agency websites that brilliantly use color to match their brand and make their content pop. We even included one from our own portfolio .

All of the examples include hex codes so you can use them as inspiration for your own website.

Pack Up & Go

Why we like this color palette:.

The standout orange brings a burst of energy, which fits perfectly with the brand’s spontaneous vibe. The clean white offers a fresh, open feel. The calming mint green paired with the deeper green balances things out, giving a sense of diverse landscapes and well-rounded adventures. All in all, it’s fun and adventurous, but still feels grounded – matching the brand perfectly.

The warm terracotta shade is instantly evocative of Italy’s rustic charm and sun-baked streets, pulling you into memories of quaint towns and Tuscan sunsets. The soft greys serve as a neutral backdrop, allowing that beautiful rustic color to truly shine. Then there’s the rich, earthy brown, which feels like a nod to Italy’s deep-rooted history. Combined with the clean white, it feels like a well-curated photo album – some highlights, some understated moments, but all undeniably Italian.

The primary olive green immediately connects with the essence of exploration and nature, perfectly aligning with the adventurous spirit of the brand. The softer shades of cream and muted beige evoke a sense of calm and sophistication. Paired with the deep forest green, it gives a rich, earthy feel, which speaks to Niarra’s commitment to impactful and meaningful travel. With a foundation of clean white, the palette collectively feels purposeful and fresh, mirroring the brand’s travel experiences.

Beyond the Square

The modern teal stands out, reflecting the contemporary pulse of NYC while nodding to this year’s popular color trend. Paired with a sophisticated gold, it infuses the palette with a touch of luxury, echoing the high-end experiences the city offers. The soft greys provide a calm backdrop. Together, these colors combine the urban sophistication of New York with the contemporary flair that draws travelers to the city.

Travel Local

The standout teal resonates with the idea of fresh adventures and new horizons, aligning with the brand’s emphasis on authentic experiences. The deep navy adds depth and trust, emphasizing the reliability of the local experts.

The soft, near-white hue offers a neutral background, allowing the bolder colors to pop. All together, these shades capture the essence of connecting with genuine, on-the-ground expertise while embarking on global travels.

420jamaica tours

The vibrant yellow, reminiscent of Jamaica’s sun-soaked beaches, partners well with the deep green, channeling the island’s lush landscapes and rich cannabis culture. The striking red injects energy, echoing the vibrant music scene.

Together, these colors not only capture the essence of the all-inclusive cannabis vacation tours but also subtly nod to the iconic Jamaican flag, grounding the brand in its roots. The palette perfectly balances relaxation, cultural immersion, and the unique ganja-themed experiences that 420jamaicatours promises.

This is actually one of our own designs. We created it for an amazing local travel agent. We’d love to design a visually appealing, client attracting website for you too, find out more about how to work with us .

Alpaca Your Bags

Why we like this palette:.

The soft blush pink immediately resonates with romance, perfect for those looking to plan weddings and honeymoons. The different shades of muted blue convey intimate tropical beach intimate getaways. The clean white backdrop provides breathing space, much like the company’s approach to stress-free wedding planning.

Overall, the palette feels romantic yet clear-cut, aligning perfectly with the brand’s specialty in crafting memorable wedding and honeymoon experiences without the fuss.

The sophisticated gold hue speaks directly to luxury, giving an immediate sense of premium, bespoke travel experiences. The dark, grounding greys and blacks resonate with the brand’s depth and vast offerings, from Polar Regions to the South Pacific.

The light neutral provides a serene base, aligning with the travel agency’s commitment to responsible travel. Together, this palette perfectly balances luxury with responsibility, showcasing Jacada’s unique approach to travel.

The Concierge Group

The soft peach and blush tones scream romance and luxury, fitting for couples looking for that dreamy honeymoon getaway. The subtle aqua blue reminds us of pristine waters and tropical escapes, aligning perfectly with the luxurious overwater bungalows and beachfront stays mentioned.  Altogether, the palette feels dreamy and upscale, encapsulating the promise of an unforgettable honeymoon journey.

The Impact of Color Choices on Travel Websites

After diving into these 9 travel agencies, we’ve seen how each palette, with its careful blend of neutrals and standout shades, can set the tone for a user’s experience.

Who doesn’t get honeymoon feels from Caribbean beach colors or get lost in the opulence of a luxury European vacation? Colors help get your website visitors excited for a trip before they’ve even packed their bags.

9 Holiday Contest Ideas for Travel-Related Brands

  • by Danielle Antosz

The travel industry is weathering storms in recent years. According to US Travel Association, the loss in travel spending cost the  US $1.1 trillion in economic output . This loss impacted all travel-related businesses, including obvious losses from air carriers and travel-related companies such as retail brands, travel blogs, travel planners, apps, and businesses that rely on travelers.

However, there is good news. In recent months, travel is on the rise, with TSA recording  1.5 million travelers in April 2021  (versus just 171,000 in April of 2021). The coming holiday season may also increase the number of travelers, providing much-needed relief to travel-related brands.

Are you looking to make the most of the holiday season? Contests can help you reengage travelers and even reach travel-lovers who aren’t quite ready to take the risk. And, they are one of the most cost-effective marketing strategies out there.

Rather than paying per click or per view, contests allow your audience to do some of the heavy lifting for you by encouraging them to share content about your brand.

Looking to increase site traffic for the holidays, drive brand awareness, or build your email list? Travel-related contests are a fun and affordable strategy to engage your customer base.

Let’s explore a few travel-related contest ideas.

Holiday Contest Ideas for Travel-Related Brands in 2021

Contests are an effective marketing strategy for a variety of travel-related brands, including big brands like airlines, but also independent travel agents, travel accessory brands (think REI), luggage companies, travel books, apps, and more.

The key to a successful travel promotion starts with choosing the right type of contest. Sweepstakes, quizzes, photo contests, video contests, and caption contests are all popular ways to help drive a marketing strategy.

A few ideas to inspire your holiday contest.

  • Where should you go next quiz:  Use a holiday-themed quiz to help travelers decide where to go for their next getaway. You can introduce audience members to new destinations or share your favorites.
  • Win a local holiday getaway : If international trips aren’t possible, focus on exploring local attractions like local water parks, theme parks, apple picking spots, or even Christmas markets.
  • My favorite holiday travel memory:  One of the best parts about traveling is the memories. Ask your audience to share a snapshot of their favorite holiday travel memory and the story behind it. Asking your audience to vote for the winner can help increase your contest’s reach.
  • Share your most unique trip : Host a photo contest and ask users to share a photo of their most memorable or exotic location. You could also  partner with another brand  to increase your reach (and prize budget):

  • Win a travel-related basket : Why give away one gift when you can give away several? Create a brand-appropriate travel basket. For example, a women’s travel website might giveaway a basket geared towards women, while a parent travel page might give away activities to entertain kids on a plane.
  • Share your best travel hacks : Everyone loves a good travel hack. Ask your audience to share their favorite travel hacks and choose the winner by vote. This encourages your audience to share your contest with their friends and family.  (Bonus points if you gather the best hacks together to create an Instagram Guide or Story about travel hacks!)
  • Recreate iconic travel photos:  Ask your audience to get creative and recreate iconic travel photos in their own home or yard. The  Follow Me To  and  National Geographic  are both great sources for iconic images.
  • Share your why video contest : Everyone has a different reason why they travel. Ask your audience to share why they travel in a video and choose the winner based on votes.
  • Travel Sweepstakes : A sweepstake contest is easier to run than photo contests. You can have users spin a wheel or do a virtual scratch-off to win a prize such as a discount code.
  • Caption this travel or holiday photo : Have your own funny holiday travel photo? Ask users to caption it and choose the winner using an  Instagram comment picker.

Feel free to use these ideas but adjust them to your brand.

For example, a kid’s travel page might host a travel photo contest about the most family-friendly locations. Relating the contest more directly to your audience may increase participation.

How to Choose a Prize for Your Holiday Travel Contest

When it comes to prizes most travel-related businesses focus on giving away trips, but the costs and logistics of these prizes can be overwhelming.

The good news is, prizes don’t have to be that expensive. Local concert tickets, travel swag like carry-on bags, travel clothing, or water bottles can still get your audience excited about your giveaway.

Less-costly prizes can be more effective from a business standpoint. In addition to costing your business less, small rewards reduce entries from people who don’t care about your brand but want a free trip.

When choosing your prize, consider these factors:

  • The demographics of your target audience : For example, parents might be interested in a travel stroller, while solo travelers might prefer a carry-on backpack as a prize.
  • Marketing goals:  Match your prize value to your marketing goals. If your goal is to increase email subscribers, you can offer a smaller prize than if your goal is gathering highly qualified leads.
  • Budget:  If this is your first contest, consider offering a lower-value prize to test the waters. You can learn what works without spending thousands on a prize.

Many people are not traveling right now — but they still want to dream about their next trip. Don’t assume you have to go big on the prize.

For example, you could give away a travel map like this one:

Here are a few other travel-related prizes to consider:

  • Travel journals
  • Specialty water bottles (with filters)
  • Books about travel
  • Rolling luggage
  • Kindle (for reading on the plane)
  • Travel-friendly snack basket
  • Travel related jewelry
  • Passport holder
  • Portable battery for charging devices on the go
  • Headphones
  • Gift cards to AirBNB or other travel brands
  • Restaurant gift cards
