Come aboard our adults-only cruises for a kids-free getaway at sea.

Children are one of life’s great joys, but on Virgin Voyages, we believe absence makes the heart grow fonder, especially while on a cruise vacation. That’s why, despite the fact that our adult only cruise ships are a playground for your inner child, we’ve chosen to curate an adults-only cruise experience.

Why We're the Best Cruise Line for Adults

Whether you choose to jumpstart the morning with a wheatgrass shot from Gym & Tonic or a Filthy Mary from The Red Bar, you can trust that any path you take will remain unobstructed by little feet. We’re proud of our design-forward eateries and bars and we created them specifically for adults, either for mingling with like-minded adventurers or for cozying up and reconnecting with the person you came aboard with. On top of the spaces themselves being kid-free havens, the menu items served within may also be a little advanced for the average tyke. Between hibachi crudo and filets at The Wake, carpaccio and truffle pasta at Extra Virgin, and mezcal pairings at Pink Agave, we keep our food and drink offerings mature and unexpected. And the best part? Dining is included in your voyage fare.

Fun Cruises for All Adult Lifestyles

The adults only lifestyle continues whenever we dock, with pages of Shore Things excursions tailored to sophisticated tastes in sight-seeing and cuisine in every port, whether you're a first time cruiser, traveling solo, or bringing the love on a couples cruise . While we know every child has a spark of genius, we don’t know many who’d be riveted by (or at least not get restless on) a medieval heritage tour through the white-stoned streets of Dubrovnik. From artisan honey-making in Ajaccio to sampling craft brews in Zeebrugge, every Virgin destination from A to Z boasts activities best enjoyed by those 18 and up.

Luxuries and Pleasures, All Designed for Adults

Once you’re back on the ship after a day of exploration, award-winning entertainment options will reinforce the wisdom of leaving the kids at home . We’re more “Romeo and Juliet reimagined in a circus” than themed character dinners, if you will; more immersive cabaret than 7 pm movie and jammies. But let’s be clear, being an adult means you vacation however you want, whenever you want. So if being in bed by 7 pm is your idea of the perfect evening, we encourage that.

And with free, reliable Wi-Fi available everywhere on our cruise ships, you’re just a video call away from any little ones you may have left on land, whether for a good night story, or a good night kiss.

All Adult Cruise Experience

There you have it: our case for remaining an adult-only cruise experience . Aboard a Virgin Voyage , you can stretch out Lagoon-side with a drink in one hand and a book in the other (how many pages you’ve read is none of our business) without fear of a rogue cannonball spoiling the relaxation. According to Josh Rivera, Consumer Travel Editor for the USA Today, "It feels like an upscale PlayPlace for adults. In the best way possible. Different from other lines, Virgin’s vibe was engaging, and knowing that passengers were all there without kids, all looking to have a good time , changed the atmosphere."

Wellness at sea

Expect a Virgin-style makeover to cruise spa and fitness programming. Whether Sailors are into high-intensity workouts, deep breaths in search of nirvana, or if they pay for a gym membership but never use it – Virgin Voyages provide spaces to care for themselves in whichever way works best for them.

Why cruise with Virgin Voyages?

Not wanting to get shipped off with a boat-load of children? While we cater for the young at heart, Virgin Voyages offer strictly adult-only cruises. Sure, the little ones would probably love life at sea, but we want you to discover your inner child – not have to look after one.

The cabins on Virgin Voyages Lady Ships stand out for their flexible furnishings, upgraded bathrooms, and sensory mood lighting, creating comfy quarters that are way more than just a place to crash. Award-winning Walter Knoll, who’s designed thoughtful and sustainable furniture for over 150 years, is responsible for specially engineering and handcrafting our transformative Seabed in Germany. Sailors can enjoy their cabin in two distinct ways, as a place to revel or a place to relax.  A luxurious loungey space transforms into an expansive bedroom with a queen size bed in one swift movement. The transformation can be executed by the sailor or by one of our crew.

Booking any suite unlocks access to Richard's Rooftop; an exclusive sun deck where elegance meets exuberance. A lavish, elaborate and members-only outdoor space for RockStar Quarters Sailors to bask under the sun or have a drink under the stars. Think VIP Rockstar service, chilled vibes, cool tunes, sophisticated loungers and being surrounded by dichroic glass casting stunning rainbow reflections through the rooftop.

If you thought cruise food was buffets and queues – think again. Virgin Voyages have ditched buffets and pre-set dining times to bring Sailors made-to-order food and leisurely brunches from 20+ unique eateries. All the food is  included  - meaning no exclusive spots you have to pay to get into.  From Korean BBQ, pizza shops, Mediterranean mezze and Mexican restaurants through to a legendary drag queen brunch, Virgin Voyages’ 24-hour food and beverage service is always made to order with a wide selection of restaurants and dining.

No more single-use plastics is just the start of Virgin Voyages’ commitment to sustainable sailing. Newly-built, state-of-the-art and eco-friendly cruise ships use cutting-edge technology so you can concentrate on leaving your footprints in the sand and not on the planet.

Still not impressed? Virgin Voyages use Azipod propulsion technology to reduce fuel consumption by 15 per cent and has partnered with Swedish cleantech experts, Climeon, to convert heat from ship engines back into electricity, helping reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

To complement artist Toby Tinsley’s revolutionary ship design, Virgin Voyages partnered with world-renowned interior designer Tom Dixon’s Design Research Studio; New York’s Roman and Williams (The Ace Hotel and the Standard Highline); Concrete Amsterdam (Citizen M and Hotel Zoku), and Softroom in London to reimagine the modern luxury cruise experience.

From the VIP rooftop, club lounge and sky rooms, which use dichroic rainbow-effect glass, through to the world’s first onboard tattoo parlour – Virgin Voyages ships boast theatrical spaces with a sense of drama and fun throughout.

The ‘Vitamin Sea’ ethos not only focuses on the wellbeing of the ocean but also that of its sailors. With a selection of onboard programmes, including sunrise and sunset yoga sessions, you’ll find more than enough things to help you detox (and retox).

If the idea of letting those abs go without a plank for a few days is enough to make you walk one, take a step inside Athletic Club. Resembling a 1920s New York sports club, sailors can hit the outdoor training zone, boxing ring and gym, or head outside to set PBs on The Runway running track.

Not quite your idea of relaxation? No problem. Redemption, the ship’s spa, will transport you to an underwater cave complete hydrotherapy pool, mud room, salt room, cold plunge pools, quartz beds and rejuvenating treatments.

From the glamourous Wake restaurant, with its high-end surf ‘n’ turf, through to Razzle Dazzle, the vegan/vegetarian restaurant and juice bar - with over 20 restaurant and dining options on board, Virgin Voyages ships cater for all tastes.

If you’re wanting to brush up on your culinary classics, The Test Kitchen is one not to miss. Foodies will love the cooking classes, mixology school and coffee labs – not to mention midnight feasts and late-night lock ins!

For a more chilled beach-club vibe, check out The Dock, serving Mediterranean small plates, salads, dips and mezzes or head to The Galley, modelled on food halls and featuring shops and food carts.

As the sun sets, you’ll probably be looking for something livelier to keep you entertained into the small hours. Signature nightclub The Manor takes inspiration from one of our original Virgin Music recording studios – make sure to pack your dancing shoes.

Finally, what better way to commemorate your time on board than by heading to Squid Ink, where tattoo artist Lou Rubino Jr has hand-picked two resident tattooists to make sure those memories never fade.

Virgin Atlantic Holidays is the only place where you can book the full Virgin Voyages package – Virgin Atlantic flights, hotels and your Virgin Voyage cruise – all in one place.

Bring the bikini, leave the kids: 4 things to know about sailing with Virgin Voyages

adults only cruise virgin

As soon as you check in on a Virgin Voyages cruise, you’re given an electronic bracelet. And once you step on board, you’re greeted by big smiles, neon lights and Top 40 pop music.

It feels like an upscale PlayPlace for adults. In the best way possible.

The line went all-in on the fun aspect, going as far as reimagining the cruise director role. On Virgin, an entire team is dedicated to making the passenger – or sailor, as the line calls them – experience the best it can possibly be for their unique needs.

"The Happenings cast is our reimagination of the cruise director you will find on other cruise lines,” said Richard Kilman, Virgin Voyages VP of entertainment. “Everyone is cast individually based on different, authentic passion points (i.e. wellness, food/drink, performing, art, games/competitions, etc.) and their ability to help us create the unique vibe you can only experience on board Virgin Voyages. They all lead a vast array of events (many aligned with their personal passion points) that take place throughout every voyage."

With a plethora of Instagram-ready spots, photo booth setups, sparkling wine happy hours, more than 20 eateries, gratuities, Wi-Fi, essential drinks and unlimited group fitness classes all included, Virgin is aiming for the modern traveler looking for easy, personalized experiences.

USA TODAY recently participated in a Virgin Voyages press trip aboard its Resilient Lady vessel on its Adriatic Sea & Greek Gems itinerary. Here are four things that make a Virgin Voyages cruise different.

It’s an over-18 cruise

The adults-only cruise sounds more salacious than it is. Mainly, you’re reminded it’s an 18-plus sailing during the entertainment portions. It caters to an adult audience while keeping it tongue-in-cheek and tasteful – for the most part.

Shows like "Persephone" and "Another Rose" definitely lean into sensuality, while "Miss Behave" and "Mind Mangler: Member of the Tragic Circle" lean into absurdist humor. These are not the typical cruise shows. Many of the sailors on the line’s Resilient Lady ship commented on the Broadway quality of the performances.

Scarlet Night, Virgin’s response to a formal night, might just be the epitome of what the line aims to do. Described as “an immersive celebration” where sailors are encouraged to dress in red, it’s a night when the entire ship is buzzing with excitement.

“Through pop-up circus performances, interactive games, karaoke, myth-telling, and live music, come pay tribute to a love that washed the world scarlet − culminating in a drenched-in-red pool and dance party unlike anything you've ever seen,” the line says on its website.

There’s no buffet

Just because there’s no buffet doesn’t mean you’ll go hungry. With more than 20 eateries on board, the most difficult part of meal times will be deciding whether you want to try something new or stick with that yummy dish you found the first night.

Don’t worry, at The Galley − Virgin’s alternative to a buffet − sailors can find several “shops” akin to a food court where they can order at leisure or wait for a server to come to their table. But do keep in mind that not all those spots are open 24/7, nor do they offer a full menu throughout the day.

For the main event, or dinner, it’s also sailor’s choice. Rather than an assigned dining time, sailors can book reservations at any of the five restaurants on board just as they would on land.

Here’s a snapshot of the restaurants:

  • The Wake: Steakhouse presented as “a modern twist to the classic chophouses of the mid-20th century.”
  • Razzle Dazzle: Comfort food with a twist. Also, boozy brunch. No need to say more.
  • Pink Agave: Elevated Mexican cuisine with “the largest selection of tequila and mezcal at sea,” and a DJ.
  • Extra Virgin: Italian restaurant with “regionally inspired food punctuated by our handmade pasta.”
  • Gunbae: Korean BBQ cooked at your table. Prime spot for solo cruisers to meet others at the communal tables or for large groups to get the night started.
  • Test Kitchen: A pre-fixed tasting menu (with accommodations for allergies and preferences) that only presents you with a list of ingredients. You can do a wine or cocktail pairing with each course. (Do this one on the first night.)

The vast majority of items on the menus are included, but each of the restaurants offers one or two indulgent options at an extra cost.

There’s no drink package

Just because it’s an adults-only cruise doesn’t mean the drinks are unlimited – unless you want them to be.

Alcoholic drinks and specialty coffees cost extra on board. Soft drinks, juices and drip coffee are included in the voyage fare. Virgin Voyages has a pre-boarding Bar Tab offer where sailors can deposit $300 into their “Wallet” to get an additional $50. Much like other lines, the offer is available only before boarding, but sailors can add money to the Bar Tab as they see fit.

Don’t be alarmed. Drinks are moderately priced, from $6 to $15, with higher-end beverages around $29. On a seven-day cruise, $300 could equal about five drinks a day.

All restaurants on the ship have unique drink menus, so make sure to leave room for those. You can view your Wallet balance on the Virgin Voyages app and add more to it during the trip – more on that below.

Free, stable Wi-Fi

Everything from dinner and performance reservations to shore excursions, to keeping track of your tab and purchases is on the app.

With that, however, comes one of the best perks for those of us who need to be connected with the outside world at all times: free Wi-Fi. Good, stable Wi-Fi. A faster, premium Wi-Fi package is available for those who need to work and hold video calls, but if you just need to check email and social media, the basic free plan works great.

The app can be a little frustrating when it freezes, but no one in our group found it limiting. Simply closing the app and reopening seemed to solve the problem.

Overall, sailing aboard the Resilient Lady felt like one of those experiences you can’t really describe. How do you write down “it had good, fun vibes”? Maybe just like that. But, different from other lines, Virgin’s vibe was engaging, and knowing that passengers were all there without kids, all looking to have a good time, changed the atmosphere.

I went on a luxury cruise for the first time. It was worth the $6,000 price tag for 5 reasons.

  • Last summer, I embarked on my first luxury cruise with the adults-only cruise line Virgin Voyages.
  • I booked a seven-day Mediterranean sailing in a cabin with a balcony for $5,900.
  • The ship's unique design, VIP-worthy cabins, and surprising activities made it worth the price.

Insider Today

I've had my fair share of luxury travel experiences, from staying at celebrity-loved hotels to spending one night on the Orient Express of the 21st century .

If I've learned one thing from these lavish trips, it's that some high-end offerings are worth the cost — and some are not.

In 2023, I took a luxury trip that was completely worth the high price tag — a $5,900, adults-only Mediterranean cruise with Virgin Voyages , a cruise line that's already received multiple awards for everything from cabins to ships after just three years of operations.

I took the seven-day cruise from Barcelona on the Valiant Lady ship , which has a maximum of 2,700 guests. We sailed to ports in Italy, France, and Spain.

Six months after my cruise, I'm still thinking about the luxury details that made it worth the price.

I took a luxury, adults-only cruise with Virgin Voyages last summer.

It was my second-ever cruise, following a seven-day voyage aboard Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas .

After that first cruise, I wanted to experience an upscale version of the vacation style. And I booked with Virgin Voyages because it's an adults-only cruise line.

From the moment I stepped on board, I marveled at the cohesive, modern design with artistic features.

adults only cruise virgin

The 912-foot-long ship was stacked with 17 decks full of staterooms, venues, restaurants, and activities.

Every room felt thoughtfully decorated with sleek furniture, unique sculptures, and multicolored lights.

I noticed design themes throughout the ship. The brand's signature bold red color was always in sight. Often, it was contrasted with other bold colors, from pinks and greens to blues and purples. Most spaces also featured iridescent panels, adding a rainbow glow that made me feel coated in luxury.

Exploring the ship felt like wandering through a work of art — or being in a movie about the ultrawealthy. There was no shortage of Instagram-worthy photo ops to take selfies while feeling like a true VIP.

Even the cabin was sleek in style and packed with VIP details.

I booked a mid-tier cabin with a sea terrace that cost $5,910. It was a step above a stateroom with just a window and a step below a suite.

As soon as I stepped into the 225-square-foot room, I was blown away by how spacious it felt. Modern furniture matched the design style of the communal decks, and the cabin was full of space-saving hacks.

A sectional couch transformed into a comfy, queen-sized bed. A closet hidden behind an iridescent curtain revealed drawers and empty storage bins.

There were also high-end details that made me feel wrapped in luxury from morning to night, like a rainfall shower head and a tablet for controlling mood lighting, curtains, and TV entertainment.

But the best part of the room was the balcony . When booking the cabin, I simply hoped for a wide-open view to stand in front of while feeling the breeze in my face.

It was much more than that.

On the terrace, I found a small table with two chairs and a large, cozy hammock. Spending time in the outdoor space watching sunsets, spotting passing islands, and getting a preview of each port stop before disembarking made the room worth the price to me.

On communal decks, I experienced top-tier relaxation thanks to the lack of children.

Virgin Voyages cruises are only for guests who are 18 or older. Since I was traveling with a partner — and I don't have kids — I was excited to lounge on quiet, calm pool decks, dine at relaxing restaurants, and have access to a range of activities for grown-ups.

And that's exactly what I got.

The ship's activities geared toward adults were surprising and fun.

The ship was packed with indoor and outdoor activities for adults. An indoor game room was full of long tables, board games, and puzzles. An arcade had virtual racing and retro machines, igniting a sense of nostalgia.

Outdoors, there was a deck with two large pools as well as several plunge pools.

All of these offerings were delightful yet unsurprising to me.

But on a cruise ship with no kids, I never expected to find a playground for adults .

On one of the ship's top decks, I found grown-up-sized swings and seesaws, a foosball table, a basketball court, and a giant chess set. I had so much fun playing like a kid with no child in sight.

Next to the playground was a slew of 1920s-inspired athletic equipment, from a boxing ring and punching bags to benches and bars for strength training.

While I steered clear of the ship's indoor gym because I don't like working out on vacation , I enjoyed kicking and punching boxing bags. It was so unique to exercise I do at home that I forgot I was working out at all.

Each port stop was unique and memorable.

adults only cruise virgin

Sailing through the Mediterranean, there's a wide range of port stops. We stopped at four — and each had standout features that set it apart from the rest.

Perhaps the most unique stop was Marina di Carrara, Italy. I took an excursion through a marble mountain range to see quarries where artists like Michelangelo traveled for the finest materials.

But the port that surprised me most was the last — Ibiza.

I expected nothing but a nightclub scene from the " party capital of the world ," so I was amazed by the city's vibrant buildings and ocean views while wandering up and down hilly streets. I was mesmerized by Ibiza's old town, where I saw cobblestone streets, Renaissance cathedrals, and 16th-century walls lined with canons.

Standing over the Bastion of Santa Lucia in Ibiza during the final sunset of my trip, I felt like I was in a storybook. As I soaked up the island view, I thought about how special the entire voyage felt — from the destinations to the ship itself.

Looking back, it was totally worth the price tag, and I can't wait to sail with Virgin Voyages again.

Virgin Voyages: Next Level Adults-Only Cruises

Last updated on September 23rd, 2023 at 07:40 pm

Cruises have long been a popular vacation option for families looking to relax and explore new destinations. One of the newest trends in cruising are ships that cater specifically to adults looking for a more sophisticated and adult-oriented experience.

One such cruise line is Virgin Voyages , which offers cruises for adults only on its sleek and modern ships. The cruise line’s ships are designed for adults only, those 18 and above, with no children allowed on board.

This means that guests can enjoy a more relaxed and sophisticated environment, free from the noise and chaos that can sometimes accompany cruising with children .

Table of Contents

Virgin Voyages is a Relatively New Cruise Line

Virgin Voyages is a relatively new cruise line, having launched in 2020, but it has already made a name for itself with its unique approach to cruising. The company was founded by Sir Richard Branson, the founder of the Virgin Group, and it reflects his bold and innovative spirit.

As of this writing (Jan 2023), Virgin Voyages has four ships in the fleet and all of them are ladies: Scarlet Lady, Valiant Lady, Brilliant Lady and Resilient Lady. All four ships are designed with adults in mind and feature a wide range of amenities and activities that cater to this demographic.

Scarlet Lady and sister ships Valiant Lady and Resilient Lady are in full operation. Brilliant Lady will join the fleet later in 2023. In February of 2022, Virgin Voyages had the grand opening of Terminal V at PortMiami , Florida, from which its fleet will set sail.

Lots Of Entertainment Options

The ships have multiple bars and lounges, including a rooftop lounge with panoramic views, as well as a variety of dining options. There are also spa and fitness centers, which offer a more tranquil and relaxing experience.

One of the standout features of Virgin Voyages’ ships is the variety of entertainment options on offer. The ships feature multiple performance venues, including a theater, a comedy club, and a live music venue.

The cruise line also partners with well-known brands, such as the New York-based comedy club The Comedy Cellar and the Miami-based night club LIV, to offer a range of shows and performances.

Adult-Geared Shore Excursions

In addition to the onboard amenities, Virgin Voyages also offers a range of shore excursions that are designed with adults in mind. These excursions include activities such as wine tastings, cooking classes, and art tours.

The cruise line’s itineraries are designed to take guests to off-the-beaten-path destinations and provide them with a deeper understanding of the places they visit. For example, in addition to visiting popular tourist destinations, the cruise line also offers opportunities to explore lesser-known destinations and meet local people. Bimini, Bahamas , for example is a semi-private area that Virgin Voyages travels to and offers an exquisite adults-only beach day.

The cruise line also works with local partners to offer unique and exclusive experiences, such as a private concert in a historic palace or a VIP tour of a famous art museum.

Sustainability and Options For Exercise

One of the unique things of Virgin Voyages is their focus on sustainability. The company has a number of initiatives in place to minimize its environmental impact, such as using advanced wastewater treatment systems and sourcing food and supplies locally.

They also offer a “Sailor for the Sea” program, which encourages guests to adopt sustainable practices during their cruise. There are many options for exercising onboard, including a running track and a huge exercise facility as well as small exercise “stations” all over the ship.

Speak The Virgin Language

Part of the immersive experience is the terminology used on board. Passengers are “sailors”, balconies are “sea terraces”, the cruise is a “voyage” and travel agents are “first mates.”

There are also multiple restaurants rather than one large dining hall as on most other cruise ships. The atmosphere is more relaxed on the Lady ships, and there is no requirement to dress up for dinner.

Even the crew members on all Virgin Voyages are not in traditional dress. Most wear very casual uniforms which consist of Virgin Voyages t-shirts, jeans and trainers.

Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady

For examples of Virgin’s bid to create a more adult experience, we are going to use Scarlet Lady as a representation of what you might expect on one of their adult cruises.

Scarlet Lady was the first ship built for Virgin Voyages. Her 1,400 cabins can accommodate more than 2,700 passengers and has a crew of 1,160. Scarlet began her voyages in October of 2021.

There is a tattoo parlor on Scarlet that is very popular with sailors, to use Virgin’s terminology. You could certainly get a lasting memento of your voyage there.

Although Scarlet Lady has a pool, some sailors were not at all impressed with the size of the only pool. The outer perimeter of the pool was wading depth, and the pool itself was less than half the entire dimension of the pool area.

There is a circular well-being pool that is supposed to be more like a hot tub experience, but sailors found that it was used more like a pool because of the small size of the other swimming pool.

Cabin Features

Under the desk in your cabin, there is a mini-bar. There is also, in keeping with an adult only ship, a “Time To Play” kit.  For an additional cost ($30 in Jan 2023) you get a few adult toys in this kit.

All of the bar soap in your cabin is going to be black. Whether it is an exclusively adult product might be debatable, but it is certainly unusual.

Some sailors were not impressed with the storage space, or lack of drawers, in the cabin area and others felt it sufficient. There are, however, lots of plugs and USB ports in the cabin.

Technology Is Key

The Virgin Voyage experience also leans heavily on technology. Download the app on your phone and it will help to guide you through the embarkation process, and give you all the onboard menus for the six restaurants.

The app also lets you keep track of your onboard spend and a daily schedule of activities. There is also a tablet in your cabin that will open and close the curtains, adjust temperatures and control the cabin lighting.

Restaurants Onboard Scarlet Lady

Continuing its adult theme, the ice cream parlor on board, which is a bonafide parlor, not the self-serve soft ice cream you find on other cruises, is named “Lick Me Til Ice Cream” and certainly leans heavily on innuendo.

As mentioned before, there are six restaurants on board and no main dining room. Razzle Dazzle (mainly vegan and vegetarian foods) is one of the most popular dining spots, and use the app on your phone to make reservations as the dining room fills up quickly.

While Virgin Voyages says that they don’t have a buffet, they do have an area called The Galley with lots of seating and a variety of food areas, like a food court in a mall. Here your food is made when you order it, and there are self-serve soda machines.

The menus on the app will also clearly display vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options, of which there are plenty on this cruise line menus.

There are, however, no alcohol packages for Virgin Voyages. Cocktails (as of Jan 2023) run about $13 – $15 and $7 to $8 for a beer. A mixed drink is about $10.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Virgin Voyages offers a unique and sophisticated cruising experience for adults. The company’s ships are designed with adults in mind, and the onboard amenities and entertainment options reflect this.

The cruise line’s shore excursions and itineraries are designed to provide guests with a more authentic and immersive experience and the company’s focus on sustainability sets it apart from other cruise lines. For adults looking for a more refined and adult-oriented cruise experience, Virgin Voyages is definitely worth considering.

Introducing Virgin Voyages: A New Adults Only Cruise Line

We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for us to earn fees by linking to Amazon.com and affiliated sites. Read my full disclosure  here .

The world of ocean cruising is about to be turned upside down – and I am here for it! In October 2021, after MANY months of anticipation, Virgin Voyages, an adults-only cruise line, will be setting sail with its first ship, the Scarlet Lady. But you might be wondering, what is Virgin Voyages and how is this new cruise line different?

Virgin Voyages, New Adults Only Cruise Line

A New Adults only Cruise Line: Virgin Voyages

I am set to sail on Virgin Voyages’ Scarlet Lady in January of 2022, and just toured her during the September 2021 New York City showcase. I have also completed all agent training (to date) on the Virgin Voyages brand . Of course, I cannot wait to sail this incredible new cruise line!

What is Virgin Voyages?

You are probably already familiar with the Virgin brand – the Virgin Atlantic airline , and Virgin hotel chain created by the iconic Sir Richard Branson. Last May I stayed at the Virgin Hotel Dallas , and it was such a fun experience! Great service, fun decor and amazing food – Just like my experience on this newest cruise line !

Virgin Voyages is a new cruise line for adults ONLY (age 18+).

Virgin is aiming to be a floating boutique hotel catering to sophisticated adults who like whimsical touches, but the finer things in life. So this is not some crazy spring break/Girls Gone Wild ship, in fact the target audience is around age 45!

The inspiration for the ships is boutique glamor, much like sailing on a well-appointed yacht (although these ships are huge!). Sophisticated with elevated food, making guests feel like a rock star for their vacation. Virgin is committed to the best emblements of luxury products (the service, quality, and attention to detail) but in a less formal and stiff environment.

Scarlet Lady, the first Virgin Voyages ship

As an adults only ship, all the spaces are for grown ups to play! There are basketball courts, outdoor fitness equipment, a huge gym, group fitness space, tons of bars, and hot tubs everywhere. The food and entertainment is also created ONLY for adults.

Virgin Voyages is setting out to do things differently- and in turn attract a wider audience of both seasoned cruisers, and first timers as well. It seems like they have taken the best of cruising and elevated it. All while taking what folks don’t love about cruising, and turned it on its head!

What makes Virgin Voyages Different?

Besides being adults only, there are several differences that veteran ocean cruisers will notice right away. Here is a list of things that make Virgin Voyages unique:

  • No buffets – that’s right, all restaurants are ala carte, and there are even some food-truck type eateries for a quick meal or snack.
  • No set main dining tables and times , and no specialty restaurant upcharges – All of the Virgin Voyages’ restaurants are in fact specialty restaurants, open to all sailors on board. For dinner, you can make a reservation (or walk in and maybe wait a bit) just like you could at your favorite neighborhood eatery. On board the inaugural ship, The Scarlet Lady, you will find Mexican, Italian, Vegetarian, and a Steakhouse restaurant… just to name a few! On a 5, 6, 7 night voyage, you will have a new place to eat every night of your stay, with whoever you want, at whatever time fits your schedule.
  • Longer port stays – Virgin Voyage sailors will enjoy late nights at the Beach Club at Bimini and overnights in Ibiza. This will allow you to really explore the destination!
  • In most cabins, the beds convert to sofas for additional living space during the day. This is applicable in interior rooms, sea view (porthole) and sea terrace (balcony). The larger suites have couches and additional seating next to the bed.
  • No drink packages – just reasonable priced beer, wine and cocktails. This allows you to spend YOUR money on whatever type of drink YOU want. No restrictions, and also no tips above the listed price. Most cruise lines do add an auto gratuity to anything you purchase on board. On Virgin Voyages, a $9 glass of wine, costs just that – NINE DOLLARS. Also worth noting, about 47% of their drinks cost less than $10!
  • Tattoo Parlor and Blow Dry Bar on board – what other ship has these?
  • Free WIFI – Yes, all guests can access free WIFI. Suite guests can enjoy premium WIFI.
  • No gratuities – the service charges are already included in your cruise fare – see below.
  • Many cabins for solo travelers (and no single supplement on these rooms). On the Scarlet Lady there are 46 solo cabins – six with a sea view and forty interior. Pay a fair price for one guest and enjoy the solace of your own oasis at sea!

Solo Insider Cabin on Virgin Voyages

Is Virgin Voyages All-Inclusive?

Like mentioned above, Virgin Voyages has a different payment model than some traditional cruise lines, but like most mass-market ocean cruises, it is not quite all inclusive.

So you might be wondering, what IS included with your Virgin Voyages cruise? Again, Virgin’s goal is to not nickel and dime the sailors, and Virgin’s philosophy is that anything you have to pay “extra” for, should be worth it.

I like that!

What’s Included with Virgin Voyages:

All gratuities – this is huge! Usually its $13-$17 per person, PER DAY in shipboard gratuities but this is already included in your cabin fare. There is also no automatic gratuity on beverages. I heard there is also no cash tipping allowed on board (like at Sandals or Beaches) but I would like to see how this does in fact play out.

Whats Included with Virgin Voyages Cruise

Wi-Fi – Included for all both on board and at the Bimini Beach Club. I would like to think I live in a world where I can go 5-7 days without internet, but let’s be realistic here. Plus having wi-fi makes a work-cation at sea possible!

Group Fitness Classes – This is also a place where some lines upcharge, but with Virgin Voyages, it’s all included.

Soft drinks – On most cruise lines (with the exception of Disney Cruise Line ) soft drinks are NOT included with your cruise fare. But on Virgin Voyages they are.

Virgin Voyages Soda machine

All Dining – Yes, all on board dining venues are included, no upcharge restaurants!

Virgin Voyages Food

Planning a cruise can be tough. There are so many cruise lines, some are big, some are small, all include different things!  Of course, there is your budget to consider as well!

For those reasons, it’s always best to consult with a travel professional to help find the perfect cruise for you next vacation. And the best part? My services are free!

Who should book Virgin Voyages?

Sailing on a cruise line catering to adults only would be the perfect vacation for social groups, bachelor/bachelorette parties, destination weddings or girlfriend getaways!

But honestly, if you are 18 or over, Virgin Voyages has something for you – whether you want to party all night or tuck away in a corner with a good book, I am confident you will enjoy the Virgin Experience.

Virgin Voyages adults only cruise line deck 7

And I’m not just saying that! A Virgin Voyage is YOUR cruise in a sophisticated but relaxed environment. You can do it how you want! Want to sleep in? Great, there are still fitness classes offered all day and afternoon. Want to get up early and seize the day? How about sunrise yoga at dawn? That’s just one example of how Virgin can meet the needs of all its sailors – so you can enjoy YOUR vacation.

Virgin Voyages Lingo

Of course when shaking up an entire industry, you need a whole new vernacular to go with it! Virgin does things their way, including some new lingo. If you need to translate from Virgin Voyages to English, here is a translation guide:

Sea Terrace     =          Balcony Cabin

Sea View          =          Porthole Cabin

Sailors              =          Cruisers

First Mates      =          Travel Agents

PS Virgin Voyages loves travel agents and just like the first mate supports the captain, they know agents are the way to go when booking a cruise !

Sailor Loot       =          On Board Credit

Bar tab              =          Monies in your account for drink purchases

Aquatic Club    =          Pool Area

Richard’s Rooftop =    Private sun deck area for Suite guests

Sea Blazer       =          A 2021 sailor

Circle               =          Social Groups Cruising together

Rock Star Agent   =       Concierge service for suite guests (kind of like a butler)

Three New Virgin Voyages’ Ships

I am sailing the Scarlet Lady in January 2022, and I toured the ship in September 2021 when it was docked in NYC for a few days.  I will be getting out a full review of that ship (it needs its own blog post).

After its stint in New York, the Scarlet Lady will sail down to Miami where it will be doing 4-7 night sailings in the Caribbean. With itineraries like Mayan Sol and Dominican Daze, there are different voyages each week. But each Caribbean sailing will stop at the Beach Club at Bimini, Virgin’s private beach club in the Bahamas . Bimini sounds awesome, and I cannot wait to go – will have to do a full review on that after I visit in January!

Virgin Voyages Aft Balcony

In March 2022, the second ship, the Valiant Lady will debut, sailing Spring/Summer 2022 in the Mediterranean out of Barcelona. These are the itineraries that will include an overnight in Ibiza! I cannot wait to book one of these for myself.

In August 2022, the third Virgin Voyage’s ship will premier – the Resilient Lady who will be sailing the Southern Med out of Athens!

So lots of great things to look forward to in Virgin Voyages’ future.

Tips for Sailing Virgin Voyages: What to know Before You Sail

Having toured the ship, having done all the trainings for Virgin Voyages, and having attended countless webinar trainings on the brand, I can offer you some tips to maximize your cruise experience on Virgin Voyages:

  • Download the Virgin Voyages app and pre-book as much as you can. There are so many fun things on board you don’t want to be shut out. Through the app, you can also order on demand food, to be delivered anywhere on the ship (They had this at Virgin Dallas it was awesome)
  • Speaking of the app – open it, shake and champagne will appear. For reals – try it!
  • Book more than 180 days in advance to receive an automatic 10% discount on your cruise.
  • Pay in full over 180 days in advance to receive an ADDITIONAL 10% discount on your sailing. You can combine these two promotions

10 Tips Virgin Adult-Only Cruise Experts Want You to Know

Embarking on a Virgin Voyages cruise is an experience unlike any other, especially when it’s an adults-only adventure. At Scott & Thomas, our firsthand travel experiences and partnerships with leading cruise lines, including Virgin Voyages, equip us with unique insights to enhance your cruise experience. Here are ten expert tips for those looking to enjoy the sophisticated, vibrant, and unrestricted atmosphere of a Virgin adult-only cruise.

1. Embrace the Adults-Only Concept

Virgin Voyages ships are a sanctuary for adults seeking a break from the everyday. The adults-only policy means every aspect of the cruise is tailored to adult preferences and pace, offering a serene, yet exhilarating, environment without the sound of kids playing. It’s about enjoying leisure and entertainment that’s designed with a mature audience in mind.

2. Discover Culinary Delights

Aboard a Virgin Voyages ship, you’ll find dining experiences that transcend the traditional cruise buffet. From the Korean BBQ at Gunbae to the refined Italian dishes at Extra Virgin, your taste buds are in for a treat. Don’t miss Razzle Dazzle, where vibrant décor meets vegetarian-forward dishes with a side of naughtiness. Each meal is an opportunity to savor gourmet cuisine crafted by masterful chefs.

3. Explore Innovative Spaces

Virgin Voyages ships are known for their unique and dynamic spaces. Make time to explore the ship and discover hidden gems like the Running Track that winds around the ship or the Test Kitchen, which is part cooking school and part restaurant. Each space is designed to surprise and delight, ensuring your cruise experience is anything but ordinary.

4. Indulge in Adult Luxuries

Luxury on Virgin Voyages is about personalizing your relaxation and entertainment. Whether it’s a cocktail at the sophisticated Pink Agave, an immersive show that captivates your senses, or a serene afternoon in the well-appointed spa, indulgence is always at your fingertips. Remember, luxury is personal, and these cruises are designed to cater to your version of indulgence.

5. Experience Nightlife and Entertainment

The nightlife aboard Virgin Voyages cruise ships is tailored for the adult audience, offering everything from high-energy nightclubs to intimate live music sessions. The cruise line’s innovative approach to entertainment means you can enjoy everything from drag shows to interactive dance parties. Top Cruises Designed for Adults

While many all-inclusive – or mostly all-inclusive – boutique and luxury cruise lines are family-friendly, many of the onboard venues and activities are adult-by-design. Since there are few (or no) activities geared toward younger cruisers and no babysitting services, you typically won't find parents with young children on these ships.

Courtesy of Azamara

Azamara's four upscale boutique ships provide immersive travel experiences geared toward adults. These smaller ships – accommodating a maximum of 702 guests – sail waterways and rivers larger ships can't access, docking in city centers and unique ports of call around the globe.

Many Azamara voyages also offer longer stays and overnights in port not found on many other itineraries, including wine and culture itineraries. Some even feature special events, such as a voyage to the Monaco Grand Prix in May 2023 and 2024, or a 12-night round-trip cruise from Buenos Aires, Argentina , to attend Carnival in Rio de Janeiro . In addition, the line is extending its offerings on Country Intensive voyages in 2023 and 2024 with itineraries in destinations like various European countries, South Africa, Australia and Japan.

On board you'll find a wide selection of casual and formal dining options ranging from Windows Cafe to the main dining room, Discoveries Restaurant. Specialty restaurant offerings include top-notch steak and seafood at Prime C or, if you prefer, Italian fare at Aqualina. First offered on Azamara Onward (the newest ship) before being expanded to the whole fleet, Atlas Bar serves innovative craft cocktails like the London Fog Martini or Tuscan Delight. Discoveries Lounge is another guest favorite for mingling with fellow cruisers at the end of the day. Wine aficionados will enjoy pairing limited-production and rare vintages from the Wine Cellar with dinner in the evenings.

Cruise fares include stateroom accommodations; select spirits, wine and beer; gratuities; and nonalcoholic beverages like bottled water, specialty coffees and tea. You'll also get access to complimentary AzAmazing Celebrations with special evening and daytime events ashore and on the ship. Additional amenities like a complimentary internet package, free specialty dining, butler service and other perks come with suite accommodations.

Lumière restaurant on Scenic Eclipse

Courtesy of Scenic

Scenic Eclipse, touted as "The World's First Discovery Yacht," offers an all-inclusive, ultra-luxurious experience for just 228 guests (with 172 crew). The ship's Polar Class 6 rating enables it to sail to destinations like Antarctica. On these expedition-style voyages, the ship will carry only 200 guests and a total of 192 crew. All suite accommodations include a private veranda or terrace; butler service; state-of-the-art amenities; Egyptian cotton linens; and an in-suite minibar stocked with Champagne, wine and other personally selected beverages. You'll also find indulgences like onboard helicopters for intimate excursions and Scenic Neptune, an underwater submarine.

Guests can enjoy up to 10 dining experiences on the ship, including fine dining at Lumière. This elegant French restaurant seats just 35 guests and features a multicourse degustation menu and a Champagne bar. For a less formal option, check out the Asian, Indian and Middle Eastern specialties – and the intimate teppanyaki grill experience – at Night Market @ Koko's. When it's time for an after-dinner drink, sample one (or several) of 100-plus whiskeys available at Scenic Lounge Bar. Other onboard activities include taking a culinary class at Scenic Épicure, getting an invigorating treatment at Senses Spa, or just relaxing with spectacular sea views and Champagne on deck 10 at the Panorama Bar.

The line's second luxury yacht, Scenic Eclipse II, set sail on its inaugural voyage from Lisbon, Portugal , in mid-April 2023. The new ship is 550 feet in length and nearly identical to its sister ship, Scenic Eclipse. One addition to the vessel is the new Sky Deck. This space boasts 270-degree views, a bar with indoor and outdoor seating, and six private cabanas. What's more, the oval-shaped Sky Deck pool is the perfect place to kick back – and it's the place to be during the sail-away deck party, especially as the sun sets over the ocean.

These spaces are typically quieter and away from the crowds. Thanks to a full glass canopy over the interior space, adult passengers can enjoy quiet lounging areas, swimming pools and whirlpool tubs with a view, no matter the weather. On top of that, select ships feature a cascading lagoon for further relaxation. Be sure to grab a tropical cocktail or zero-proof drink at Solarium Bar (or Sunshine Bar, on Quantum ships) to sip poolside while enjoying the ocean vistas.

Adults-only cruises are designed with adults in mind. From the staterooms, dining venues and lounges to the onboard entertainment and excursions ashore, adults-only cruises cater to adults 18 to 21 years of age and older. What you won't find on board are water or theme parks, climbing walls, game rooms and restaurants serving kid-friendly foods.

If you're looking for a relaxing, fun and romantic vacation without the kids in tow – and you don't want to deal with the other passengers' children on your getaway – consider booking a sailing specifically for cruisers at least 18 years or older. Alternatively, select a cruise line or ship that caters to mostly adults and doesn't offer any services, kids clubs, babysitting or activities for children.

You don't have to be a kid to be a Disney Cruise Line fan. While the line does not have an adults-only vessel within the fleet, there are plenty of kid-free spaces for adults only. Adults can enjoy cocktails, dinner and entertainment in several venues and relax at designated pool areas on the ship. There's also private stretch of beach on the line's private island, Castaway Way – sans kids.

In addition, Disney offers one of the best programs to keep youngsters entertained at sea, so you'll find that many of the children hang out in the kids club during the day and in the evening. These club spaces are divided by age groups, and they're typically open until midnight or 1 a.m. so parents – and even adults without kids – can enjoy a kid-free night out on the ship.

  • November 1, 2017

Virgin Group Founder Sir Richard Branson and Virgin Voyages President and CEO Tom McAlpin hosted a ‘Ship Tease’, where key details were revealed about what sailors can expect on the first of three ships, coming to the high seas in 2020. Live from Fincantieri’s shipyard in Genoa, Italy, they also celebrated the laying of the keel for the first ship, marking the commencement of construction.

Richard Branson launches month-long European cruise aimed at remote workers

Richard Branson launches month-long European cruise aimed at remote workers

Branson wants you to swap working from home for working from a cruise ship that stops off at rome, ibiza, majorca, and cannes.

Tom Earnshaw

Ever thought about swapping your work from home environment for the luxury of a cruise ship? Well, that's exactly what Richard Branson wants you to do.

The British billionaire , worth a cool $2.6 billion (£2.05 billion) , is known throughout the world for his business acumen.

Setting up the Virgin Group in the 1970s, his ventures include Virgin Records, Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Trains, and Virgin Galactic.

Another recent arm to his corporate ventures is Virgin Voyages, which sees Branson offer luxury cruise trips around the world.

With just three ships, each of them carries roughly 2,700 passengers on every voyage, having first set sail back in 2021.

And now, Branson has set his sights on those who work from home.

The idea? Get remote workers to give up their home office or the local coffee shop in favour of his state of the art ships.

Offering a brand new month-long cruise, Branson's Virgin Voyages is looking to set sail across the Mediterranean on a journey lasting one month.

Running from June to September this year, the adults-only cruise is dubbed the 'Scarlet Summer Season Pass' and stops off idyllic locations including Cannes, Rome, Ibiza, Palma de Mallorca, and Corsica.

No Drake Passage for this lot .

Wi-Fi wouldn't be a problem, with super-fast coverage included in your package through SES Cruise mPOWERED + Starlink PRO.

It also comes with your own dedicated concierge, a laundry service, and early access booking for dining .

There is also early access for Shore Things excursions, which are local experiences to get truly immersed in the location you've stopped off at.

The pass also comes with exclusive access to Richard’s Rooftop deck, daily coffee credits, and welcome champagne.

For a cabin sleeping two, prices start at $9,990 (£7,878). That's 30% less than if you booked four separate week-long cruises, according to the company website.

Virgin Voyages’ CEO Nirmal Saverimuttu told CNBC Travel: "People have really adopted the flexible working style, and it resonates with travellers.

“We got a lot of people who said it feels like an incredible value."

More than 2,000 people registered their interest in the scheme within a day of it being launched.

KPMG’s chief economist, Diane Swonk, told CNBC Travel: "We are in the midst of a massive transformation in how, what, and where we do our jobs. There is no putting the work-from-home genie back in the bottle.

"Firms who try too aggressively to do so lose a lot of their access to top talent and the diversity of their workforce.”

As with any cruise ship, though, living on it for one month doesn't mean you're exempt from the brutal departure time cut offs .

Virgin Voyages Launches Month-Long European Cruise Aimed At Remote Workers

Featuring stops in party-hearty destinations like Ibiza, Rome and Cannes.

Virgin Voyages, the adults-only cruise line owned by billionaire Richard Branson , is now targeting remote workers among its seafaring clientele.

The Miami-based cruise line recently introduced a month-long cruise called the “Scarlet Summer Season Pass.” The deal spans four week-long cruises packaged together to appeal to remote workers who want to spend a month at sea in southern Europe.

“People have really adopted the flexible working style, and it resonates with travelers,” Virgin Voyages’ CEO Nirmal Saverimuttu told  CNBC Travel . “We got a lot of people who said it feels like an incredible value.”

The  Scarlet Summer Season Pass  covers two people and costs $9,990. The rate includes a room, meals, group fitness classes and Wi-Fi, plus laundry services, daily coffee and tea and access to workspaces.

The “Season Pass” is 30% cheaper than booking four week-long cruises back to back, according to Virgin’s website. Travelers can also swap out travel companions for different legs of the cruise.

Within 24 hours of announcing the Season Pass, more than 2,000 people registered interest in it, reports CNBC Travel. When bookings opened, spots on the month-long cruise—which stops in party-hearty destinations like Ibiza, Rome and Cannes—sold out in just 48 hours.

That immediate interest spurred Virgin Voyages to open additional spots for remote workers on a second cruise ship this summer. The “Season Pass” cruises will sail on Virgin’s Scarlet Lady and Resilient Lady ships, each of which can accommodate about 2,700 guests. Cruises are scheduled to sail from June to September 2024.

Inside The Scarlet Lady—Virgin Voyages’ Stylish Luxury Cruise Ship

“We are in the midst of a massive transformation in how, what, and where we do our jobs,” KPMG’s chief economist, Diane Swonk, told CNBC Travel. “There is no putting the work-from-home genie back in the bottle. Firms who try too aggressively to do so lose a lot of their access to top talent and the diversity of their workforce.”

Saverimuttu said most of the digital workers who have booked the cruise are in their mid-50s and are employed in full-time remote roles. He said the idea for the program came from Branson himself, after he learned passengers were taking long trips while working remotely on Virgin Voyages ships. He attributed the program’s quickly growing popularity to Branson’s “magic touch” for understanding today’s consumers.“The response has really been phenomenal. It’s really surprised us,” he said. “But you know, maybe I shouldn’t be surprised because it was one of Richard’s ideas.” CNBC Travel

While the Scarlet Lady aims to be a stylish upgrade of the typical cruise ship experience, life at sea isn’t for everyone. Novelist Gary Shteyngart’s recent Atlantic feature about “seven agonizing nights” aboard Royal Caribbean’s new Icon of the Seas comically details his nautical nightmare on the world’s biggest cruising vessel.

The 4 Best Adult-Only Caribbean Cruises

I t’s not that you don’t love the little ones. But every now and again, it’s grown people time. Don’t feel guilty. Instead, start packing your bags for an adult-only Caribbean cruise.

There are a handful of cruise lines that cater to the 18+ crowd and other cruise lines that are adult-centric; they don’t prohibit children, but they aren’t tripping over themselves to attract them either. This means you likely won’t find a kids club, a Frozen -themed theatrical dining experience, or a waterslide. What you’ll find are adult-only pools, decks, and quiet areas.

Here’s where to turn when you’re ready to set sail for an adult adventure in the Caribbean.

1. Virgin Voyages

Forget about long lines at the buffet. On Virgin Voyages , not only are there no buffets, but no designated mealtimes or formal dinners. You might think you’re at an uber-luxe resort with 20+ eateries and menus crafted by Michelin-star chefs. Ship interiors were inspired by W Hotels and Soho House. They showcase the work of interior design gurus like Tom Dixon and Roman and Williams. For entertainment, there’s the Duel Reality Show, an acrobatic performance that takes a page from the Romeo and Juliet playbook. The Untitled DanceShowPartyThing is a wild, immersive dance show. The late-night PJ parties are legendary as well. If you’re not hungover, sunrise meditation classes await.

With Virgin, you get all that and itineraries like the Eastern Caribbean Antilles, an eight-night trip that sails from Miami to Puerto Plata, San Juan, St. Croix, and Bimini, before returning to Miami. In Puerto Plata, take your pick of adventures like a cable car ride up a mountain for epic views and lunch, rum tasting, or exploring villages, rivers, and waterfalls. In San Juan, it’s all about experiencing the El Yunque Rainforest, gallivanting the cobblestone streets, hitting the bars and restaurants in Old San Juan, or horseback riding. You get the picture, big-people fun. With just over 2,700 passengers, Virgin Voyages isn’t a mega-ship either, giving it a bit more of an intimate feel.

2. Viking

If you have the pleasure of sailing on Viking’s West Indies Explorer, you’ll know this is not a trip for the kiddies. You’ll soak up knowledge from lectures like Explorers: The Age of Discovery , The Bayeux Tapestry, and Islands in History .

Spend 11 days in 9 countries. Start in San Juan and make your way to Tortola, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, Barbados, Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, St. Thomas, and back to San Juan.

Hike Sage Mountain and end your journey on the beach or tour historical sites. In Roseau, Dominica, a visit to Morne Trois Pitons National Park is a must, as is snorkeling in the much-ballyhooed Champagne Reef. A stop in Philipsburg brings opportunities to create your own fragrance in a perfume class, co-pilot a multi-million-dollar boat during a pretend “America’s Cup” race, or enjoy a chairlift ride to the top of Sentry Hill.

3. P&O Cruises

This UK-based company’s Aurora and Arcadia ships are adult-only ships. If you want a hefty dose of the Caribbean, set sail on the Aurora from Southampton for a 24-night adventure. Ports of call include Madeira, Portugal, St. Maarten, Guadeloupe, St. Vincent, St. Lucia, Barbados, Ponta Delgada, and Portugal, returning to Southampton.

Highlights include Kingstown, St. Vincent, with its rainforests, caves, waterfalls, and swimming holes. Or you can set off in a catamaran for snorkeling and Princess Margaret Beach. Get off your ship with a big appetite when you go on shore in Guadeloupe. Fill your belly with the spicy Creole food at Point-a-Pitre’s restaurants. History buffs will get their fill of history in Bridgetown, Barbados. There’s so much architectural and cultural gems that Bridgetown is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with finds like the Georgian St. Mary’s Church, the neo-Gothic Barbados Parliament, the Garrison, and more. Save time for the Harrisons Cave, which includes caverns and waterfalls.

On days at sea, relax in the Oasis Spa, workout in the gym, and enjoy the pools and whirlpools.

This is not only adult-only, but Saga is just for those 50 and older. While the Caribbean is the draw on this UK company’s cruises, you’ll hardly be bored in between excursions. There are lectures, theater productions, recitals, outside deck games, fitness classes, and exercise clinics where you can ask the pros fitness and mobility questions. For the crafty types, there are classes that could be anything from making jewelry and frames, creating mosaics, and more. There are culinary demonstrations from UK celebrity Chef Phil Vickery. The gymnasium has a swimming pool, hot tubs, sauna and steam room, and hydrotherapy pool.

Island Hopping in the Caribbean is a month-long romp in the Caribbean that begins and ends in Portsmouth, UK. The first port is Ponta Delgada in the Azores, and then it’s St. John’s in Antigua, Tortola, San Juan, St. Barts, Dominica, Grenada, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Madeira, and back to Portsmouth.

The port in Gustavia, St. Barts, is the stuff of movies with its mega yachts, tony shops, and restaurants. Get ready to profile with the pretty people. In Tortola, the secluded beaches and coves are ideal for a cuddly couple. Your stop in Antigua won’t be complete without a visit to a rum shop, either to taste or bring back gifts. A walking tour showcases the Colonial architecture, or maybe you’d enjoy a guided tour of the Cadres Reef. When you’re in the Port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago, street food from the market stalls are the way to go. Bird lovers won’t want to miss the Caroni Bird Sanctuary. Independence Square and the botanical gardens should also top your list.

Adult-Centric Cruise Lines

While there are a handful of adult-only cruise lines, companies are increasingly offering adult-only spaces; be it adult-only pools, decks, quiet areas, and lounges.

Take, for example, Regent Seven Seas Cruises ; it doesn’t have adult-only itineraries, but as an uber-luxe line, the demographics tend to skew heavily toward grown folk. The lavish suites, upscale spa, multi-million-dollar artwork collections, foodie pleasing restaurants, and intellectually and culturally stimulating excursions won’t captivate the young ones. You’ll likely feel quite comfy on the Caribbean escape — Merengue, Salsa & Calypso cruise.

Celebrity Cruises also has adult-centric amenities. The Solarium is on the resort decks of all ships. It’s an adult-only pool area covered by a glass dome, ideal for reading, napping, or lounging with a cocktail, or in the hot tub. The adult-only SEA Thermal Suite boasts eight therapeutic experiences as a place to connect with other wellness gurus before or after treatments at The Spa. You’ll love the rainfall water therapy room, float room, and heated tile loungers. There’ll be no kiddies at the sunset or martini bars. You’ll vacay like a grown-up on Celebrity’s Caribbean cruises.
