Often compared to metal giants like Tool and Korn, Staind have turned their alt-metal sound into a 2 decade long career that has seen over 15 million records sold.
The band met and formed in Massachusetts in the mid-90s and started out covering songs by the likes of Rage Against the Machine and Alice in Chains which would help to mould their sound as they moved forward. The 5 piece line up consisted of Aaron Lewis, Mike Mushok, Johnny April and Jon Wysocki which remained a constant until Jon’s departure in 2011.
The band self-released a small quantity of their debut album ‘Tormented’ and, after opening for Limb Bizkit, made a new fan in frontman Fred Durst. With the help of Terry Date, Fred produced Staind’s major label debut ‘Dysfunction’ which, although a slow seller to begin with, began to pick up traction as the band toured hard and singles began to receive radio play.
The band really broke out with the release of third album ‘Break the Cycle’. As evidenced by hit single ‘It’s Been A While’, the band had started to blend more post-grunge sounds in with their nu-metal foundations with great results as the album debuted at number one in the album charts and eventually went on to sell 7 million copies round the world.
The band continued to release successful albums (all of which debuted in the top 10 of the album charts) and, after taking a brief hiatus in 2012, returned to touring in 2014 with numerous festival appearances.
Live reviews
Staind is a band that I have a lot of respect for. I went to four Staind concerts last year and I was not disappointed for any reason at all at the events.
They always have a decent crowd to be with at their shows and that is why I love being there live. I have no fear that somebody is going to push me in a mosh pit when I don't want to go in.Outside of respectful fans, the band has been putting out excellentusic for over ten years.
They won't just play their new music at live events, they will play lots of songs off of their old albums. I want to go see Staind another four times this year!

Staind Announces Arena Tour with Seether, I Prevail
The rockers of Staind are hitting the road next year for a brief radio arena tour with a stacked lineup.
The eight-date tour kicks-off at Planet Band Camp at St. Augustine Amphitheatre in Florida on April 18, followed by Amalie Arena’s 98 Rockfest in Tampa, WJRR’s Earthday Birthday at Central Florida Fairgrounds in Orlando, WDHA’s Rock the Rock Fest at the Prudential Center in Newark, and the 98 Rock Spring Thing at CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore.
They’ll also appear at The Big Gig at DCU Center in Worcester and 102.9 HOG FEST at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee before wrapping-up at the 93X Twin City Takeover at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul on May 4.
Throughout the run, various bands will provide support, varying per date, including the metalcore groups I Prevail, Asking Alexandria, Dayseeker, and Sleep Theory, the heavy-rockers of Seether, and the ’70s-style glam rockers of The Struts. Grunge-rock’s Aryon Jones, country’s Tim Montana, rock artist Austin Meade, and the all-female rocker group Plush will round out the bill at select shows.
Staind released their eighth studio album, Confessions of the Fallen, in September. This marks the band’s first studio record since 2011’s self-titled. This time around, frontman Aaron Lewis told Blabbermouth that he wanted to “modernize the sound and bring us up to date.”
“You can certainly recognize the band but at the same time you can hear that we’ve been paying attention and understand what kind of sounds and approaches we can use that maybe weren’t around the last time we did this,” Lewis said.
Staind first arrived on the scene in 1995, garnering attention in the early 2000s with hits like “It’s Been Awhile,” “So Far Away,” and “Everything Changes.”

The site AmericanSongwriter.com says: “Since their debut in 1996, Staind has become a legendary band in the worlds of hard rock, metal and post-grunge. Frontman Aaron Lewis wrote most of the band’s material that is oftentimes unsettling, and even disturbing, compelling the listener to think and take an honest look at their own life alongside Lewis, who takes you inside the depths of his mind.”

STAIND Shares Animated Music Video For 'Better Days' Featuring DOROTHY
STAIND has released an animated music video for the song "Better Days" featuring Dorothy . The track is taken from the band's latest album, "Confessions Of The Fallen" , which arrived last September.
"Better Days" , an emotionally charged power ballad that is classic STAIND , marks the first time the band has a featured artist on a song. Singer and namesake of her Los Angeles rock band, Dorothy brings her powerhouse vocals alongside STAIND frontman Aaron Lewis , taking the sentiment of the song to the next level.
"This was a departure for me," says Lewis . "It's really the first time STAIND explored a feature with a female guest vocalist. Once we started tracking, I could tell the synergy was there. We didn't have to pick harmonies, we didn't have to analyze parts, they just happened. I'm stoked to have Dorothy on this single with me. Her talent and voice are incredible."
"I had a great time tracking 'Better Days' ," adds Dorothy . "It's a beautiful song and I hope fans connect with it. I'm so grateful to Aaron for the opportunity."
"Better Days" is the third rock song released from "Confessions Of The Fallen" . The first two singles, "Lowest In Me" and "Here And Now" , reached No. 1 on Active Rock chart.
See STAIND live on the "Tailgate" tour with special guests SEETHER , SAINT ASONIA and Tim Montana beginning on April 22 in Brandon, Mississippi.
STAIND 's co-headline tour with BREAKING BENJAMIN and special guests DAUGHTRY and LAKEVIEW kicks off September 10 in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania.
In a recent interview with Germany's Riot Vision , STAIND guitarist Mike Mushok spoke to about the "electronic element" which was incorporated into "Confessions Of The Fallen" . Released via Alchemy Recordings / BMG , STAIND 's first new LP album since 2011 was produced by Erik Ron ( GODSMACK , PANIC! AT THE DISCO , BLACK VEIL BRIDES ).
Mike said: "Well, that was something that Aaron really wanted to explore. We had talked about it before, but we'd never really done it. So he really wanted to make that a part of what we were doing. And it was funny, 'cause I do remember saying to him, like, 'I play guitar. I don't know how to do that.' So that's where I feel like Erik played a really big part in helping make that a part of what this album sounds like. Some of those verses where you hear [and] it's like more electronic[-sounding], that's a guitar part I wrote just played on a synthesizer, [using] some crazy sound. So he was able to take some of those things that I wrote and adapt it to kind of bring in some of those elements into the music. And I think he did a great job. I like it. I'm pretty happy with it."
Asked what new musical elements he would like to explore on future STAIND albums, Mike said: "I don't know. To me, it's just really about trying to write great songs. It's really just kind of trying to take what we do and make it better. And I don't really have any kind of guidelines. If it calls for more electronics or — I don't know — a guitar solo or whatever the case may be, whatever really the song calls for, I think that that's what the best thing to explore is. But I was very happy with the process of making this record and how it came out. Some records have been really difficult to make. This one wasn't one of those. The way we did it, it took us a while, but we got there. And by the end of the day, once we got there, I was really happy with the end results."
When "Confessions Of The Fallen" was announced in April 2023, Lewis stated about the LP's musical direction: "I did want to modernize the sound and bring us up to date. You can certainly recognize the band but at the same time you can hear that we've been paying attention and understand what kind of sounds and approaches we can use that maybe weren't around the last time we did this."
STAIND has released eight albums since 1995, including 2011's self-titled effort. The band has had a number of hit songs during its first two decades, including the Top 10 smash "It's Been Awhile" from the No. 1 album "Break The Cycle" . Follow-up LPs "14 Shades Of Grey" and "Chapter V" also topped the Billboard chart.
STAIND released its first album in nine years, "Live: It's Been Awhile" , in May 2021 via Yap'em / Alchemy Recordings . The "Live: It's Been Awhile" album was accompanied by "The Return Of Staind" , a two-part global streaming series in partnership with Danny Wimmer Presents .
Last year, STAIND and GODSMACK completed a 25-city co-headlining tour, produced by Live Nation .

Singer-songwriter Ruston Kelly discusses healing from divorce and moving back to Nashville
In the midst of a crumbling personal life, Ruston Kelly got out of town and found ways to heal himself. Now, he's moved back to Nashville and is ready to experience Music City anew with fresh music in tow.
The alternative-indie artist, or "dirt emo" singer, as Kelly would call it, released his new EP "Weakness, Etc" on March 21 before heading out on tour. The "Too Chill to Kill Tour" took Kelly all around North America.
On May 2, he's ending his tour at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium.
The gravelly voiced artist sat down with The Tennessean to discuss the new EP, his four years of prioritizing personal healing and moving back to Nashville.
Why Ruston Kelly came back to Music City
The singer experienced a high-profile divorce from musician Kacey Musgraves in September 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Kelly has been open, too, about his struggles with drug addiction.
"So divorce, global pandemic, I stopped doing drugs suddenly, like hard drugs," Kelly said. "Everything happened at the same time. It was a super hard reset."
Since then, he's done some serious soul searching. He found himself in the small Tennessee town of Portland .
He calls it a blue-collar town where they didn't care that he played music or toured for a living.
"They're just like, 'Oh, that's cool.'"
He bought an old Victorian house, the mayor's house from back in the early 1900s. "It was structurally super sound, but it needed like a lot of updates," he said. "It needed a lot of love."
As Kelly put up drywall, painted the walls and toughened up the infrastructure, he did the same thing to himself. He renovated.
"It was allegorical to what I was experiencing as, like, a person," Kelly said. "To straighten yourself out, it takes a lot of willpower, and I failed a lot, and I'll fail again. It was hard. It's not for the faint-hearted to dive deep like that."
He found it difficult that people thought they knew the ins and outs of his divorce, something incredibly personal to him.
After his ex-wife released "Star-Crossed" in 2021, Kelly received threatening messages on social media. A lot of people thought the songs were about him — some of them were, he said.
"I'm not gonna lie, the public aspect of my divorce, I was naive to like how all that ... works," he said. "It's not normal to wake up and you open your phone and someone's like, 'I hope you ... die.' That messed with my sense of self worth, it messed with my sense of identity."
But Kelly shared that you can take any negative event in your life and use it to humble yourself.
"Know that it's not all that you are, and you can eventually grow from that," he said.
He did just that during his time in Portland. But Kelly always knew he'd be coming back to Nashville.
He was driving back and forth to Nashville to record and collaborate with other musicians. He was ready to start dating again, and that was easier to do in Nashville. He also found working on the house taxing.
"I felt like I had discovered this like bedrock about myself, but now it was time to move on," Kelly said. "And that transition happened quicker than anticipated."
So he finished up the house in 2023, renovating it with his father, an architect.
The day Kelly listed the house on the market, he sold it. He never got to live in the finished product.
Kelly said it was always about getting back to the music for him. All he wanted was to be on the tour bus with his band and to get back to Nashville.
"This is home," he said. "This is so home to me. It's always been home."
Ruston Kelly's acoustic tour, wraps up at Ryman Auditorium
Kelly took his EP on the road with a fully acoustic tour, something he's always wanted to do.
"One of my goals is to become Dave Matthews Band," he said. An acoustic tour is just one step closer .
On May 2, he will be ending his tour at the Ryman Auditorium, a stage that has a special place in his heart.
"The energy from that stage is palpable," he said. "Like when you're standing on a stage and spotlights on you ... the stained glass windows above everyone. It's the best ever."
Kelly's "Weakness, Etc" details redemption, fallen angels and looking for paradise. There is no better place for the new EP to come to life on its final tour stop than in the Mother Church.

Theatres in Moscow
Cultural life of Moscow city is various and rich! Operas, ballets, symphonic concerts... Russian composers have created some of the most beautiful classical music. Russian classical music is very popular in Moscow. It is performed in many beautiful historical venues. Do not forget to include a visit to a concert hall in your itinerary when you are planning your stay in Moscow! And do it in advance.
There are almost no restrictions on dress code in Russian theatres. Visitors may wear jeans and sports shoes, they may have a backpack with them. Only shorts are not allowed.
A typical feature of Russian theatre – visitors are bringing a lot of flowers which they present to their favorite performers after the show.
Here are some practical advices where to go and how to buy tickets.
The Bolshoi Theatre
The Bolshoi Theatre is the oldest, the most famous and popular opera and ballet theatre in Russia. The word “Bolshoi” means “big” in Russian. You can buy a ticket online in advance, 2-3 months before the date of performance on the official website . Prices for famous ballets are high: 6-8 thousand rubles for a seat in stalls. Tickets to operas are cheaper: you can get a good seat for 4-5 thousand rubles. Tickets are cheaper for daytime performances and performances on the New Stage. The New Stage is situated in the light-green building to the left of the Bolshoi's main building. The quality of operas and ballets shown on the New Stage is excellent too. However, you should pay attention that many seats of the Bolshoi’s Old and New Stages have limited visibility . If you want to see the Bolshoi’s Old Stage but all tickets are sold out, you can order a tour of the theatre. You can book such a tour on the official website.
If you want, following Russian tradition, to give flowers to the performers at the end of the show, in the Bolshoi flowers should be presented via special staff who collects these flowers in advance.
In August the Bolshoi is closed.
The Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre
This theatre is noteworthy. On one hand, it offers brilliant classical opera and ballet performances. On the other hand, it is an experimental venue for modern artists. You can check the program and buy tickets online here http://stanmus.com/ . If you are opera lover, get a ticket to see superstar Hibla Gerzmava . The theatre has a very beautiful historic building and a stage with a good view from every seat. Tickets are twice cheaper than in the Bolshoi.
The Novaya Opera
“Novaya” means “New” in Russian. This opera house was founded in 1991 by a famous conductor Eugene Kolobov. Its repertoire has several directions: Russian and Western classics, original shows and divertissements, and operas of the 20th and 21st centuries. It is very popular with Muscovites for excellent quality of performances, a comfortable hall, a beautiful Art Nouveau building and a historic park Hermitage, which is situated right next to it. You can buy tickets online here http://www.novayaopera.ru/en .
Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Center
The Opera Center has become one of the best theatrical venues in Moscow. It was founded in 2002 by great diva Galina Vishnevskaya. Nowadays its artistic director is Olga Rostropovich, daughter of Galina Vishnevskaya and her husband Mstislav Rostropovich, great cellist and conductor. Not only best young opera singers perform here, but also world music stars do; chamber and symphonic concerts, theatrical productions and musical festivals take place here. You can see what is on the program here http://opera-centre.ru/theatre . Unfortunately “booking tickets online” is available in Russian only. If you need help, you can contact us at and we can book a ticket for you.

You can check the program here http://meloman.ru/calendar/ . You need just to switch to English. Booking tickets online is available only for owners of Russian, Ukrainian and Belorussian phone numbers. If you need help, you can contact us and we can book a ticket for you.
Moscow International Performing Arts Center (MIPAC)
This modern and elegant concert hall houses performances of national and foreign symphony orchestras, chamber ensembles, solo instrumentalists, opera singers, ballet dancers, theatre companies, jazz bands, variety and traditional ensembles. Actually, it has three concert halls placed on three different levels and having separate entrances. The President of MIPAC is People’s Artist of the USSR Vladimir Spivakov, conductor of “Virtuosy Moskvy” orchestra. You can see pictures of the concert halls here http://www.mmdm.ru/en/content/halls . "A very enjoybale day in Moscow. We had a very nice and knowledgeable guide Anastasia.(Nastia) She was very passionate about the City and we learnt so much in our brief four hours walk with her! Certainly this walking tour added a lot of value to our Moscow Holiday. A great idea to educate visitors about Russia and Moscow. The group was intimate enough to ask questions and stop for snacks etc..we thoriughly enjoyed it and would highly reccomend it.Carry on doing a great job!"
"I really enjoyed the tour, it was a great experience, very informative and fun. I will definitely tell everybody about that tour, keep it it is a fantastic idea!"
"Sorry I do not remember the names :( ... They were very talkative and very into everything. I think they both really love the city, and they made me feel like this to. They knew much about History, which was very informative! Great guides!!!"
"We partook of the fantastic Petersburg Free Tour. Due to our timing during the low season (shockingly not everyone is flocking to Moscow while the average temperature is 15F), it ended up being just us and Sonia, the afore-mentioned super-guide. She quickly ascertained the limited scope of our wanderings.."
