FREE Universal Orlando 12-month crowd calendar with park hours & special events

PLEASE READ THIS – changes in park hours and other data

Universal does not provide notifications when it changes park hours after they are initially published, which can happen once, twice, or several times each month.

While we work diligently to provide you with the most accurate information possible, the policies and procedures of other businesses may change at any time without notice. Therefore, we’re unable to make any warranties regarding the accuracy or completeness of the projections and posted information below.

Our very earnest recommendation is that, regardless of what our calendar or Universal’s website shows, please contact Guest Services directly a day or two before you travel to confirm park hours for your visit: 407-224-4233, or toll-free at 1-877-801-9720.

You can view projected wait times, weather, and more

Click on any date to view detailed information about that day, including useful links, the weather forecast, which park Early Park Admission is located at, and our projected maximum wait times.

If Universal has not published park operating hours for a particular month, we provide last year’s hours and put an asterisk (*) next to them.

12-month crowd calendar legend

Theme parks are at their busiest. Expect huge crowds, very long lines for the popular attractions with wait times over 120 minutes, and extended park operating hours. Express Passes are highly recommended and may possibly sell out. Typically, during very busy days, USF and IOA are open until 10:00 pm or later. In addition, the parks may open to the general public at 8:00 am, an hour earlier than usual. (Need a touring plan ?)

Theme parks are busy. Expect large crowds and long lines for the popular attractions with wait times between 90 to 120 minutes (lines will be noticeably shorter in the morning and evening). Express Passes are recommended but not necessary with good planning. Typically, during busy days, USF and IOA are open until 9:00 pm. (Need a touring plan ?)

Theme parks are moderately busy. Expect ample crowds and long lines for the popular attractions with wait times between 30 and 90 minutes (lines will be much shorter in the morning and evening). Keep in mind that Universal usually performs its routine ride maintenance during moderate and slow periods, meaning that one or two major attractions could be closed – this page lists all ride closures currently scheduled. Express Passes are only recommended for those guests who don’t want to deal with any lines, or who are trying to visit both parks in one day. Typically, during moderate days, USF and IOA are open until at least 8:00 pm. (Need a touring plan ?)

Theme parks are slow. Expect few crowds and minimal lines with wait times for popular attractions 45 minutes or less. Keep in mind that Universal usually performs its routine ride maintenance during moderate and slow periods, meaning that one or two major attractions could be closed – this page lists all ride closures currently scheduled. Express Passes are not recommended. Typically, during slow days, USF and IOA are open until 7:00pm.

Planning The Magic

Best Universal Studios Orlando Crowd Calendar

Universal Studios Orlando Crowd Calendar

Welcome! Here’s hoping this free Universal Studios Orlando crowd calendar makes your vacation planning just a little bit easier. This is just one step closer to having the best day ever at the parks.

As Universal Orlando season pass holders for years, we hope this very simple, yet effective design works for you. Even if you’re just starting to plan your Universal Orlando trip, you probably know the basics of accounting for crowds.

We all know that the parks are most likely to be packed during the summer months. Epecially when the kids are out of school, and the weather is beautiful. The savvy traveler might book for mid-winter dates or another off-season time. This is a strategy to avoid long lines and long wait times.  This is where the Universal Studios Orlando crowd calendar comes in.

We’re at an awesome place to start. Fortunately, there is a lot more to know about managing crowds during your vacation!

But where to begin? There’s a ton of information out there about crowd calendar ratings, point systems, and so on. How can you determine which ones are legitimate? How do crowd calendars even get their information? Are they accurate at all? What is the point of planning your trip down to the hour?

Deep breaths. I did all the research on Universal Studios Orlando’s crowd calendars for you, and we’ll tackle your questions one at a time. Buckle up and get ready to make the most of your Universal Orlando vacation.

What is a Crowd Calendar?

Crowd calendars are daily assessments of how busy a particular amusement park or attraction will be. They usually project several months ahead and update regularly to reflect actual crowd volume statistics from the park.

They can take a variety of forms, including an actual visual calendar that summarizes each day’s crowd levels. Others break it down hour by hour. Some differentiate between each of Universal Orlando’s parks. I have found crowd calendars that do everything from indicate the weather every day to the wait times for specific rides based on actual user feedback.

What are the Best Crowd Calendars for Universal Orlando?

The next question you should be asking is where I can find all these great resources. You are in good hands, friends. Here are some of the best crowd calendars Universal Studios Orlando, with some information about each.

Undercover Tourist

This website is my absolute favorite place to get discounted tickets and information on all things Orlando. They have low prices and promotions that match and then beat official tickets from Universal itself. They also have a lot of vacation planning tools to help you maximize your trip every step of the way.

Undercover Tourist also has one of my favorite Universal Studios Orlando crowd calendars. . It looks overwhelming at first because they include statistics for every park in Orlando ( from Disney to Universal to SeaWorld).

Just adjust your search to look for the parks you plan on visiting, and then look at each day you wish to visit. It gives you a rating of how busy each park is on a scale of 1 to 10. Also, showing data on the weather and the best times to avoid crowds.

Get more information on how Undercover Tourists can help you save money when getting your tickets for Universal Orlando.

Orlando Informer

Another pro resource is the Orlando Informer, which is packed with loads of tools to help you navigate their complex calendar. I’ll break it down for you so you can just worry about the specific dates you are planning for your visit.

The Orlando Informer ranks each day on a scale of very busy, busy, moderate, and slow. They also include the open hours of each Orlando park every day. Universal tends to adjust its hours based on crowd levels, which is helpful to know well in advance. The O. I. makes recommendations about getting Express Passes for rides based on how busy the parks are supposed to be, as well as scheduled maintenance that Universal plans on slower days.

Be sure to glance at the weather information for each day. As well as the predicted maximum wait times for the popular rides in each park.

TouringPlans.com

A great benefit of this Universal Studios Orlando Crowd Calendar is the individual breakdown of crowd ratings at both Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure . It also takes the average of those ratings to score each day for the Universal Orlando resort as a whole. Their information is updated continuously, especially for extremely popular rides like Transformers: The Ride – 3D and the newish Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem ride.

If you are particularly interested in the crowd levels for your trip based on extensive research and statistics, I recommend checking out this calendar and making the most of it. If not, perhaps look elsewhere. TouringPlans.com requires you to subscribe to a yearly membership to view the complete 365-day calendar, which is necessary if you are using crowd calendars to plan a trip instead of just checking a general calendar when you are actually traveling.

World of Universal

Are you looking for a clear-cut, color-coded crowd calendar that doesn’t require a fancy description to understand? Take a look at this one on World of Universal’s website. It marks each day of the year as slow, fair, or busy, with green, yellow, and red colors to match.

This is great if you aren’t looking to go extremely in-depth with planning your trip based on crowds, or if you are not very flexible with your travel dates. Use this one to just get a feel for how busy it will be on the days you are planning on going.

How do Crowd Calendars Work?

So we know a little bit about where to find the best crowd calendars for your Universal Orlando trip. But how is this information even calculated, and is it any better than making a strong guess based on your kids’ school calendar?

Actually, crowd calendars are something of a vacation-planning science. They take into account holidays and school breaks, this is true, but also events happening in the parks, the opening of new or popular attractions, and historical patterns.

Plus, many are based on actual wait times and assessments taken on the ground in the park itself. TouringPlans.com, for example, has an app that users can log into to track their wait times for various rides and attractions. Researchers also scan the market to determine the heaviest crowd days. There is definitely a lot more that goes into making a Universal Studios Orlando Crowd Calendar than eyeballing general travel trends.

Are Universal Studios Orlando Crowd Calendar Accurate?

The magic question. Can crowd calendars be trusted when you’re making major vacation plans for Universal Orlando? Nobody wants to show up to the parks on a day that was supposed to be completely slow and find swarms of sticky tourists.

In my experience, crowd calendars have only ever helped me.  But here is what I always say: take everything with a grain of salt.

Chances are better than not that crowd calendars will be accurate when it comes to the expected crowd volume for a particular set of dates. They take into account the general trends and can usually make realistic predictions based on what information is available. They will not be 100% accurate 100% of the time, which is why traveling requires both research and patience.

I will again use TouringPlans.com as an example of how much faith you can place in crowd calendars. Lucky for you, they are actually really committed to improving accuracy all the time. Real people go into the real parks and take real measurements of wait times for rides.

They do this daily and then hold themselves accountable for how accurate they were day to day. You can always look back through their records to see how they’ve improved. (Again, remember the catch: you do have to pay a little bit for that reassurance of accuracy.)

Is It Worth It?

Crowd calendars can be an excellent resource for planning your trip to Universal Orlando. You know the best websites to find information, and you have options based on how much time and effort you want to put into researching park volume. But do they actually work? Will you save time, headaches, and money?

It’s a yes for me.

I have found over and over again that at least looking at a crowd calendar once or twice before my trip has made a huge difference in when I choose to go. They have helped me avoid dates that were unexpectedly busy and have given me an idea of how long I should expect to wait for rides.

Most importantly, crowd calendars have helped me (and hopefully, you!) save money. If you are considering purchasing Universal Express Passes that help you skip lines, then you want to be very sure if you will need them or not.

It’s always possible to buy Express add-on tickets while you’re actually on your vacation, but it is so helpful to not have to think about shelling out even more money while you’re in the thick of spending it left and right.

The best ticket deals, and even the ability to self-plan your Universal Orlando trip can get done at GetAwayToday .

Ultimately, only you can determine the worth of using crowd calendars to plan your trip. If you are going to use them to their full capacity and really work with the information, then go ahead and check out the calendars we just discussed. If you know that you can’t adjust your dates very much, go ahead and check them out anyway to know what to expect during your trip.

Insider Tips and Tricks for Avoiding Crowds and Making the Most of Your Visit to Universal Studios Orlando.

As you’re planning a visit to Universal Studios Orlando, there are a few insider tips and tricks you should know to avoid crowds and make the most of your experience. Here are some ideas:

  • Arrive Early: The park gets crowded quickly, so plan to arrive early to beat the crowds and have more time to explore.
  • Use the Single Rider Line: If you don’t mind riding alone, the single rider line can save you a lot of time waiting in the regular line.
  • Take Advantage of Express Passes: If you’re willing to spend a little extra money, the express passes can give you access to shorter lines and more time to enjoy the rides.
  • Plan Your Route: Take some time before your visit to plan out which rides and attractions you want to see first, so you can avoid backtracking and wasting time.
  • Visit During Off-Peak Times: If possible, plan your trip during the off-peak season to avoid the biggest crowds.

Stay On-Site: Staying at a Universal hotel can give you early access to the park and other perks like free transportation and express passes.

These are just a few tips to help you make the most of your visit to Universal Studios Orlando. Have a great time!

Thanks for these tips! I think it'd be a fun trip for the family!

This is good to know! We won't be able to go often so going when the crowds are down is a must.

I haven't been to Universal in years. We went there for our honeymoon. It would be fun to go back.

Myrah Duque

These tips are very helpful. We have the annual pass and go only maybe once a year just because of the crowds.

The crowd levels on our Crowd Calendar reflect our wait time forecasts for each date and park. Those forecasts are based on 11 million wait times we have collected over the past 14 years. We account for special events, holidays, and other factors that bring people to the parks, and we rank each date from least-crowded (1) to most-crowded (10) based on wait times.

This number indicates how high the wait times will be on each day

Undercover Tourist is a popular website for purchasing theme park tickets at a discount. If you’ve planned a trip to Walt Disney World , Universal Studios, or SeaWorld, you’ve probably come across Undercover Tourist. But did you also know you can use this website to book hotels and rental cars, too?

In this post, we’ll go over what you need to know to use Undercover Tourist to find the best prices on amusement park tickets, hotels, and rental cars. Plus, we’ll go over some of the popular features of the site like the Crowd Calendar.

Undercover Tourist is a website that that’s been around since 2000 and is known for offering discounted tickets to theme parks across the U.S. The site is an authorized seller of tickets for all the major theme parks you know and love:

  • Walt Disney World Resort in Florida
  • Disneyland in California
  • Universal Orlando Resort
  • Universal Studios Hollywood
  • SeaWorld Orlando
  • SeaWorld San Diego
  • LEGOLAND Florida Resort
  • LEGOLAND California Resort

Undercover Tourist also has discounted tickets to non-theme park attractions like Ripley’s Believe It or Not, ski resorts, zoos, movie theaters, and lots more! Plus, it acts as an online travel agency for hotels and car rentals.

While Undercover Tourist offers a ton of ticket, hotel, and car options, the site is limited in the number of destinations it covers. You’ll only find options in the following cities:

  • Breckenridge, CO
  • Chicago, IL
  • Los Angeles, CA
  • New York City, NY
  • Orlando, FL
  • Park City, Utah
  • San Antonio, Texas
  • San Diego, CA
  • San Francisco, CA
  • Washington, D.C.

Options in Seattle, London, and Paris are coming soon.

Bottom Line: Undercover Tourist is a resource for discounted tickets to theme parks and other attractions in select cities across the U.S. It’s best known for offering discounted tickets to Walt Disney World and Universal Studios theme parks.  The site also acts as an online travel agency for hotel reservations and car rentals in these select cities.

Discount Tickets

Let’s review the steps to using Undercover Tourist to purchase discounted tickets.

You can start your search for discounted tickets from many different places on the home page. Click on Discount Tickets in the top menu bar, click on a logo underneath the menu bar, or click on any of the featured tickets in the middle of your screen to start your search.

Finding discounted tickets on Undercover Tourist

After choosing your destination, you’ll be able to see lots of information about your chosen theme park, including maps, hotels, tips, and more. Scroll down a bit to find the availability calendar and ticket options.

Disney tickets through Undercover Tourist

The tickets you buy through Undercover Tourist are exactly the same as if you purchased them directly from the park, except you’ll probably save some money.

After choosing the type and number of tickets you need, you’ll be able to see your final price and choose your travel dates. The price you see is what you’ll pay — taxes are included and shipping is free!

Price of tickets on Undercover Tourist

Hot Tip: Are you on a tight budget? Check out our full guide to using visiting Disney World for cheap using points and miles.

You may be inclined to have your tickets emailed to you, but there are some risks. E-tickets are non-refundable, and you’ll need to stop at Will Call at the gate to pick up your physical tickets. For Disney tickets, if you have a MagicBand, you can add the e-tickets to your account and proceed directly to the gate, but they’ll still be non-refundable.

Instead, it may be a better idea to have the physical tickets mailed to you. This option is also free and the tickets will be eligible for a refund. Plus, you’ll be able to go straight to the gate at the park which can be a huge timesaver.

Paper vs emailed tickets from Undercover Tourist

Many tickets sold on Undercover Tourist are refundable within 90 days of purchase. To get a refundable ticket, you’ll need to have tickets mailed to you vs. opting for email delivery. Refundable tickets will be clearly marked. Be sure to confirm the return policy for your specific tickets before completing your purchase.

If you need to return tickets that you purchased, you’ll be charged a 5% fee to cover the return.

Hot Tip: E-tickets are non-refundable. To get a ticket that is eligible for a refund, you’ll need to select the Mailed To Your Door  option.

Before finalizing your purchase, you’ll be prompted to add travel insurance. Before choosing whether or not to add insurance to your purchase, you’ll want to learn about all of your options.

Undercover Tourist offers insurance through Allianz Global Assistance , a popular travel insurance company. However, the policy offered by Undercover Tourist covers lots of areas that may already be covered through your credit card including trip cancellation and interruption , lost or delayed baggage, and travel accident insurance, so it may not be needed.

If you purchase tickets that are eligible for a refund, insurance is probably not necessary. If you’re also booking a hotel or rental car, take a minute to determine if you have a credit card with rental car insurance  before purchasing a separate policy.

The Undercover Tourist Crowd Calendar is a popular feature on the site that helps you identify the least and most crowded times to visit a specific park.

To access the Crowd Calendar, just click on Crowd Calendar in the top menu bar of the website.

How to find the Crowd Calendar on Undercover Tourist

You’ll be able to look at specifics for a handful of the most popular destinations:

  • Discovery Cove
  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park
  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios
  • Magic Kingdom Park
  • Universal’s Islands of Adventure
  • Universal Studios Florida
  • Universal’s Volcano Bay

Undercover Tourist Crowd Calendar

Hot Tip: The Undercover Tourist Crowd Calendar is a color-coded chart that helps you predict which parks will be more or less crowded on a specific day.

Undercover Tourist mobile app

If you’re headed to Orlando, be sure to download the Undercover Tourist Orlando Planning App, free for iOS . This handy app will take the stress out of trying to navigate the parks on your own with features like an interactive map, up-to-date park information, park plans, and estimated wait times.

The app covers Walt Disney World Resort, Universal Orlando, and SeaWorld Orlando.

The Frog Guarantee and Frog Family Promise are not price guarantees, rather they’re guarantees of quality and customer service.

The Frog Guarantee

When purchasing amusement park tickets through Undercover Tourist you’ll always receive:

  • Authentic tickets from an authorized seller
  • Free standard shipping
  • No hidden fees
  • 90-day refund/return policy (not applicable to e-tickets)
  • RFID enabled and Genie+ eligible Disney tickets
  • Next-day pickup or delivery availability

So, let’s answer the question you really want to know, “Can Undercover Tourist save me money?”

To do this, we priced out some ticket options for 1 adult on Undercover Tourist and compared those to what we could get directly from the park’s website.

In every single example we priced out, Undercover Tourist was the cheapest option! If you’re looking for discounted tickets to Walt Disney World and other popular theme parks, you’ll probably save money by using Undercover Tourist.

Hot Tip: You can NOT use Disney gift cards to pay for tickets through Undercover Tourist. So, if you’ve been collecting gift cards from stores with high points bonuses (like grocery stores ), you’ll need to purchase your tickets directly through the park.

Purchasing tickets to an amusement park can be expensive. So, of course, you’ll want to make sure you’re earning as many points as possible on your purchase.

Amusement park tickets usually code as “entertainment,” so if you’re purchasing them directly, you’ll want to use a credit card that offers bonus categories on entertainment purchases . The Citi Premier ® Card earns 2 points per dollar spent on entertainment purchases, including tickets to amusement parks.

However, purchases from Undercover Tourist code as “travel” which opens up the door to earn points on a variety of different credit cards. These credit cards all earn bonus points on the travel category, which will include amusement park tickets purchased from Undercover Tourist.

Earn 3x points on travel purchases with these credit cards:

  • Ink Business Preferred ® Credit Card
  • Chase Sapphire Reserve ® card
  • Citi Premier card

Earn 2x points on travel purchases with these credit cards:

  • Chase Sapphire Preferred ® card
  • Capital One ® Venture ® Rewards card

Hot Tip: If you have an American Express card, check to see if Amex Offers has any current money-back offers from Undercover Tourist.

While Undercover Tourist is known as the place to buy theme park tickets, the site also acts as an online travel agency for booking hotels.

To get started, click on Hotels in the top menu bar. Then select your destination from the drop-down box and enter the number of travelers and your travel dates.

Your search results will be displayed in a format similar to other hotel booking websites that you may be familiar with (like Expedia , Priceline , Hotels.com , etc). Filtering options will be available on the left side of your screen and sorting options are located on the upper right-hand side, above the results.

Undercover Tourist Hotels filtering and sorting

Unlike with tickets on Undercover Tourist, the prices you see initially don’t include tax. You’ll have to click through to the payment page to see the full price with taxes and fees included.

Cancellation policies will vary by the hotel but will be clearly displayed once you add an item to your cart.

Undercover Tourist Hotel cancellation policy

Hot Tip: If you’re traveling to Florida to enjoy the theme parks, check out these places to stay in Orlando for your Disney vacation!

Let’s take a look at a couple of examples to see if booking a hotel through Undercover Tourist can save you money. For both of these examples, we priced out a week-long stay for 2 adults and 1 child. Prices include taxes and fees and are for the hotel stay only (tickets are not included).

The results are typical of most price comparisons we do — they aren’t consistent! Undercover Tourist had the best price for the first option, but Trivago came out with the best price in the second example. The bottom line is that you can definitely save money by using Undercover Tourist for your hotel stay, but not always.

The car rental search functionality on the Undercover Tourist website is pretty limited. You’ll only be able to search for car rentals at Orlando International Airport (MCO) from only 5 car rental companies — Alamo, Avis , Budget , Enterprise , and National .

Undercover Tourist Car Rental

We did a couple of searches to find out if booking your Orlando car rental through Undercover Tourist could save you money. We searched for the cheapest price for a week-long rental on 2 different dates.

In both of these examples, Undercover Tourist came out as the second most expensive option. Interestingly, Momondo  had the lowest price and Priceline had the highest price in both examples.

Undercover Tourist may be a great place to purchase theme park tickets, but it’s not a great option when you’re searching for a rental car.

Undercover Tourist is a popular website for purchasing theme park tickets on the cheap. It also acts as an online travel agency for hotels and car rentals, but only in select cities.

It’s a great site to use to save some money on theme park tickets, but the savings on hotels and cars aren’t as consistent.

Before you head to Disney, check out some of our helpful guides including re-opening plans , packing lists , and even how to visit virtually .

The information regarding the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card was independently collected by Upgraded Points and not provided nor reviewed by the issuer.

1 – GREEN = Light Crowds (minimal lines) 2 – BLUE = Below Average Crowds 3 – YELLOW = Average Crowds 4 – ORANGE= Above Average Crowds 5 – RED = Heavy Crowds (long lines)

Each day on the crowd calendar is highlighted with one of those colors to help you determine what the crowd size might be on that day at Universal’s theme parks.

We hope you’ll consider working with them too, what is a theme park crowd calendar.

A crowd calendar is a tool to track and predict how busy a theme park will be on a specific month, week, and day of the year.

By using current trends and data compiled from recent years, a crowd calendar determines which days the parks will have shorter lines and which days will have longer lines. This information can be used to give you an idea of the crowd levels at the theme parks on the dates you are considering. A crowd calendar for Universal Studios in Orlando and Islands of Adventure is the perfect way to track crowds and plan the day you visit the theme parks accordingly.

Why Use a Crowd Calendar to Understand Crowd Levels at Universal Orlando Resort?

The crowd sizes at Universal Studios Florida often align to the crowd sizes at Universal’s Islands of Adventure (and vice-versa), but this is not always the case. Some days one park will have fewer or more guests than the other Orlando park and the next day could be totally different.

Even though you may not have the flexibility to plan your Orlando trip around the least-crowded dates, this information about crowd levels can still be helpful for your Universal Studios trip. It’s always good to know what to expect so you can plan accordingly and get the most out of your Universal Studios in Orlando vacation.

For those concerned about potential exposure to COVID-19, this crowd information can also help you choose dates to visit Universal Studios with lower attendance levels in order to reduce your exposure to other guests.

Choose a low crowd time to visit Orlando to limit your exposure to other guests. Lower crowds also mean shorter wait times for the theme park’s attractions.

A Universal Studios Crowd calendar can also help you determine if early park admission or purchasing the Universal Express Pass is worth it. If the crowds are expected to be heavy then this add-on will likely make a big difference in your Orlando theme parks experience.

Universal Studios Orlando Crowd Calendar for February

Discover Universal Studios Orlando Crowd Calendar for February

Smaller crowds are one of the main factors that make February a fantastic month to visit Universal Studios Orlando. The New Year’s holiday has passed, most children are back in schools, and the cooler Florida weather is rolling in.

The month of February is also the sweet spot in between the Christmas rush and the Spring Break rush, and this period historically sees the lowest daily attendance numbers amongst theme parks across the nation. Knowing when to visit and what to expect can largely be determined by reviewing variations of a Universal Studios Orlando Crowd Calendar.

By the end of this article, you will know what to expect of crowd levels at Universal Studios Orlando win February, as well as have a good understanding of what theme park events and other external factors might impact crowd levels during the month as well.

Universal Studios Crowd Levels

The most crowded times of the year at Universal Studios Orlando include major federal and religious holidays, spring break (basically the entirety of March and early April), and the summer months when children are out of school on vacation. There are exceptions including periods when there are major theme park events like Halloween Horror Nights or Mardi Gras.

Weekdays versus weekends are also important distinctions to make that can help better understand crowd levels during any month of the year. The general rule of thumb is that weekend days are typically more crowded than weekdays.

Before you plan to visit the park, visit the official Universal Studios Orlando website to check if your passes have any blockout days, which are days you cannot enter the theme park depending on the specific ticket you have. Some annual passes feature blockout out days, as well.

You can check this information in The Official Universal Orlando Resort App , too.

What is a Crowd Calendar?

A crowd calendar is a resource for vacationers to utilize when considering a visit to theme parks or major attractions. It shows the expected crowd density broken out by date and location for each theme park or attraction site.

Universal Studios Florida

Crowd calendars for Orlando, for example, will contain crowd breakdowns for all of the Orlando-based theme parks like Universal Studios, Walt Disney World, and SeaWorld. Some crowd calendars are extremely detailed and provide scores based on estimated crowd levels for each park located on a larger property (as an example, Universal Studios Orlando has 3 parks: Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, and Volcano Bay).

One of the most comprehensive crowd calendars available for free online is from the Undercover Tourist. You can access this crowd calendar here to view expected crowd levels for February, but there are also crowd calendars created on this site for other months of the year, as well.

Each crowd calendar might be slightly different based on how each creator rates and perceives crowd levels, as well as how in depth they go with the specifics of each theme park’s attendance levels.

Some other great examples of crowd calendars that reference Universal Studios Orlando can be found on The Park Prodigy and The Orlando Informer . It is best to review several crowd calendars when researching crowd levels of the parks. According to these sites and other crowd calendars available online, the consensus is that February has low to average crowd levels throughout the month.

However, important to note is that crowds are anticipated to increase toward the end of February into March. Crowds are also expected to flux during weekends in February likely due to Mardi Gras related events.

Is Universal Studios Crowded in February?

In February, Universal Studios Orlando and Islands of Adventure are both slow. Wait times for popular attractions will likely be 30 minutes or less during the weekdays and 40 minutes or less during the weekends. There is no need to splurge on Express Passes if you are planning a visit to the theme parks in February because most rides will feature shorter wait times anyway.

The Harry Potter attractions tend to have slightly longer wait times than other attractions inside the parks, but these wait times will still be shorter than normal in February. Water-based attractions will likely have little to no wait due to the cooler weather and smaller crowds.

Harry Potter at Universal Studios Orlando

The best time to visit the parks in February is at the beginning of the month. The first two weeks of February are traditionally less crowded than the last two weeks of the month. If possible, try to visit on weekdays as opposed to weekends. In February, weekend days will be more crowded than usual due to Mardi Gras. Avoid visiting Universal Studios Orlando on Saturday’s or Sunday’s if you do not want to experience heightened crowd levels.

The best time of the week to visit the parks in February is during the middle of the week when crowds are at their lowest. Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s are the quietest days of the week to visit the parks because children and adults are in the middle of a school or work week. If you can start your trip in the middle of a week in February, you will get the opportunity to experience the parks with minimal crowds.

This is the best time to visit for capturing awesome photos of the park with fewer people. You will also be able to ride more attractions, eat at more restaurants, and enjoy more games when you visit during the middle of a work or school week.

Also try to avoid visiting Universal Studios Orlando during the weekend of Presidents Day. This holiday is on a Monday, and crowds are expected to be high the day of and the weekend preceding the holiday because many visitors will have the day off work or school.

If you want to avoid crowds altogether, you might want to consider an Express Pass. Though crowds are lower in February, waiting in lines of any length is likely inevitable unless you have an Express Pass. If you have the money to spend, and you want to avoid waiting in queues of any length, Express Passes would be a sensible investment.

Buying one Express Pass does not cover an entire travel party. Everyone in the group must purchase an Express Pass. These passes are also non-transferable, meaning you cannot buy 3 passes for more than 3 people to use interchangeably. The Express Passes are tied to one named individual and cannot be transferred to anyone else after purchase.

Also important to note is that Express Passes cannot be copied or resold to anyone else. As you can guess, purchasing Express Passes can get pricey, and it is not necessarily worth investing in when crowds are already low. However, if you are fully committed to buying Express Passes, there are two different types of Express Passes available for purchase.

The one you pick will ultimately determine how many times you can utilize the Express Lane at each attraction. To find more information about pricing, and compare the two different Express Passes available, visit the official Universal Studios Orlando website .

Some of the onsite hotels include Express Passes for each guest in the property to use during their stay (valid theme park admission or Annual Pass admission is not included and must be purchased separately). The hotel category that includes Express Passes for guest use is the Premier Resort category. Hotels in this category include the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel, the Hard Rock Hotel, and the Loews Royal Pacific Hotel.

The hotel rates across all categories during the month of February typically reflect the lower demand and smaller crowds. This is especially true toward the beginning of the month before Mardi Gras commences.

If you’ve ever wanted to stay at a hotel in the Premier Resort category, February might be a good time to do so to get the best value out of the nightly room rate.

Conquering one park in a day is doable in February, and it might even be possible to do two parks in one day if you are committed. The smaller crowds and shorter wait times make it easier to breeze through the queues and hop over to the other park by the early afternoon. If taking this approach, visit Universal Studios in the morning and hop over to Islands of Adventure by 2pm.

There is a new attraction that recently unveiled at Islands of Adventure, and typically newer attractions tend to have slightly longer wait times than other rides. In Islands of Adventure, the newest addition to the park is the Jurassic World Velocicoaster.

The Velocicoaster is a high-speed thrill rollercoaster perfect for adrenaline junkies. The ride reaches speeds of 70 mph, and it is arguably the most intense thrill ride on Universal Orlando property. Expect slightly longer wait times and larger crowds outside of this new, exciting attraction.

The most crowded area on-property in February is likely CityWalk, which is open to the public year-round. You do not need a park admission ticket to enjoy the CityWalk area or restaurants. There are many fun bars, shops, and activities located at CityWalk. This section of the property truly has something for everyone to enjoy.

Depending on your home base location during your Universal Studios Orlando trip, you might need to walk through CityWalk to access the front entry for both parks. CityWalk gets most crowded during the early morning when parks open, and in the mid-afternoon around dinner. There can sometimes be many people funneling through CityWalk when parks close each night, too.

Just a few miles down the road from Universal Studios Orlando is of course Walt Disney World, another popular theme park spot in Central Florida.  There’s always a chance that certain events happening at one park can alter the crowd levels a bit of another (such as people being excited to visit Disney World on their 50th Anniversary” back in 2021).

Any Events at Universal Studios Orlando in February?

The biggest event Universal Studios Orlando holds during the month of February is Mardi Gras, which typically runs from February to April. There is no added fee or ticket for purchase to enjoy this event, making it one of the most popular events for annual passholders and local Universal devotees. The Mardi Gras event and festivities are included with any theme park ticket or Universal Orlando Annual Pass (UOAP).

Mardi Gras at Universal Studios Florida

This is important to keep in mind if considering a visit on a weekend day during the month of February because there will be higher-than-normal crowd levels at Universal Studios. Though the crowd levels will be elevated, this might not necessarily impact attraction wait times. Most of the crowds visiting for Mardi Gras likely have other priorities including visiting the Mardi Gras Tribute Store, enjoying the Mardi Gras parades, or queuing up for the concerts. Because the Mardi Gras event is exclusive to Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure will likely have lower-than-normal crowd levels during the month.

Mardi Gras concerts and parades are among the two most popular highlights of the event. Concerts happen around 8:30pm on select Saturday’s and Sunday’s, as well as select Friday’s, throughout the course of the Mardi Gras event.

The concert line-up for February and March can be found here , and the concerts will feature top-name musicians like Jason Derulo, Diana Ross, and Becky G.

Are Universal Orlando Hotels Crowded in February?

Hotels on Universal Studios Orlando property are not expected to be crowded during the month of February. Despite the occurrence of Mardi Gras throughout the month of February, hotels on property are large enough to accommodate the possible influx of guests wanting to stay on-property overnight.

Universal Orlando hotels feature 295,000 square feet of meeting space and 9,000 guest rooms across multiple hotels. There are occasional conferences and meetings held at some of the on-property resorts, which might impact crowd levels at specific hotels. To check if a large event or convention is occurring at the hotel during the dates of your trip, call the hotel directly.

For more information about booking a conference or event at an onsite hotel, visit the official Universal Orlando Meeting and Events page .

Staying at an onsite hotel has several perks. One of the perks people often don’t realize is that if the parks reach capacity, you are still guaranteed entry so long as you are staying at a hotel on Universal Orlando property.

The parks likely won’t reach capacity at any point during the month of February, but this is important to know just in case. There is nothing worse than traveling to Universal Studios Orlando and attempting to purchase tickets, only to be turned away at the gate due to the park being at capacity. The Universal Orlando parks reached capacity often during the summer months, but it is not common for parks to reach capacity during the month of February.

Parking at Universal Studios Orlando in February

Compared to more crowded months, parking at Universal Studios is relatively easy and stress-free. During crowded months like July and December parking can be atrocious, and you might be expected to park in spots farther away from theme park entrances due to the volume of cars in the garages. Luckily, if you plan to visit Universal Studios Orlando by car in February you will likely not face this issue. Parking rates do change occasionally, so be sure to call ahead or visit the official Universal Studios Orlando website to find the most up-to-date information. As of now, parking ranges from $27 to $50 (prices are of course always subject to change). You may also qualify for free parking if you arrive after 6pm.

Packing for Universal Studios Orlando

You may be eligible to receive a free upgrade to Prime Parking with either Avis or Budget car rentals if rented from the Orlando International Airport. You will still need to purchase the regular parking. A voucher is required to receive this free upgrade.

If you want to elevate your experience and get closer to the park entrances upon arrival, try the valet service and avoid self-parking. Valet service is much higher in price compared to self-parking, but it might be a worthwhile investment if you want to avoid self-parking, the chaos at the main security terminal, or if you simply want to arrive and depart closer to where the action is taking place. Prices for valet can vary, and range between $27 to $75. Annual Passholders may also be eligible for free or discounted valet parking. Check here for more details.

If staying at an onsite hotel, each hotel has separate options for parking while you enjoy your vacation. To find out more information about each hotel’s parking policy and fees, contact the front desk or the hotel’s guest services department.

Is Universal Studios Crowded During COVID-19?

In mid-March 2020, at the time of the emergence of COVID-19, Universal Studios Orlando closed to the public for an initially undetermined length of time. Universal Studios Orlando was able to successfully reopen to the public on June 5, 2020, and it has remained operational since that date.

Do you need to wear a mask to Universal Studios Orlando?

Universal Studios Orlando took considerable precautions upon reopening to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 including the requirement of masks, a temperature check of every guest prior to security screening, and distributing hand sanitizer to each person prior to their boarding of the ride vehicles.

Currently, the only precautions that remain in place are the availability of hand sanitizer before boarding ride vehicles (though this is not enforced in the same way that it was in 2020), as well as the requirement of masks and face coverings at all restaurants, shops, indoor hotel public areas and at all attractions. Universal Studios Orlando does not require proof of vaccinations or negative COVID-19 tests to enter the property.

The official Universal Studios Orlando website states that each guest must confirm they are not feeling sick, experiencing flu-like symptoms, or have a recent loss of taste or smell before visiting. The website also states that if you are under self-quarantine orders or have been in contact with someone who has COVID-19 or COVID-19 symptoms, you must also refrain from visiting the park. For the most accurate and up-to-date information, visit the official Universal Studios Orlando webpage outlining their safety guidelines .

COVID-19 risk is still present in Florida and at the theme parks, but the pandemic is not impacting crowd levels in the way that it did in 2020 and 2021. Crowds are seemingly back to normal, pre-COVID levels. Historically, February is a month with smaller crowds and, thus, shorter wait times, so crowd levels and wait times should not be of too much concern if you are visiting at any point in February.

If possible, try to avoid standing in large crowds without a mask or face protection. You must keep your face covering on while waiting in all ride queues and while on the attractions themselves. Hand sanitizer is available for us around the parks, but you should bring your own small bottle for personal use and for when you cannot access a hand sanitizer station.

To stay on top of wait times and ride operations, download The Official Universal Orlando Resort App . Utilizing this app during your trip will help you streamline your visit and strategize which rides you want to ride at which times. Inside the app, you can view attraction wait times, utilize park maps for directions to and from key points around the park, and place mobile food and drink orders at select dining locations.

Visiting Universal Studios Orlando in February means that you will likely experience lower than normal crowd levels and endure shorter wait times at the most popular attractions. While planning your visit, utilize this article and other online resources like crowd calendars, the Universal Orlando Resort App, and popular Orlando tourism blogs.

Referencing crowd calendars from a variety of sources will help you determine the most strategics days to visit the parks during your visit. Remember that the general rule of thumb for visiting Universal Studios Orlando is that weekend days are typically more crowded than weekdays. However, any visit to Universal Orlando in February is sure to be memorable and exciting.
