Things to see and do in Swansea

A visit to Swansea is a must: take in the sweeping waterfront of Swansea Bay leading to Mumbles and onto the beautiful Gower Peninsula. Not complete without trying one of the famous Welsh-Italian ice cream parlours.

Heritage and culture

National waterfront museum.

A striking architectural landmark in its own right, the National Waterfront Museum  celebrates the industrial and maritime history of Wales dating back to the 1800s. This is a highly interactive guide through an age when Wales supplied the world with coal and steel, and countless inventions, like Richard Trevithick’s groundbreaking steam locomotive.

Explore the exhibitions on the area's prehistoric inhabitants, through the medieval period to the growth of industry and wartime. The museum hosts regular events and exhibitions so there's always something new to see.

The Egypt Centre

The Egypt Centre is based on Swansea University's Singleton campus, a short distance from the city centre. With the largest collection of Egyptian antiquities in Wales, it's a fascinating place to delve into a culture that still intrigues us thousands of years later. They hold lots of events throughout the year, especially during half-term and summer holidays. Egypt-mad kids will love the interactive workshops on tomb-designing, dressing up and puzzle-solving.

Swansea market.

The original market was established in 1897, under the largest structure of glass and wrought iron in the UK. Devastated by World War II, along with much of Swansea City Centre, Swansea Indoor Market was rebuilt and remains the largest of its kind in Wales with over 100 stalls. Here you can sample many of the delicacies of the area, including cockles and laverbread, the world-renowned dish made from seaweed collected on the shores of north Gower.

Clyne Gardens

There are numerous parks and gardens worth visiting in Swansea, but for sheer drama,  Clyne Gardens  is particularly notable. Extensive and exotic planting ranges from rhododendrons to Elephant Rhubarb and American Skunk Cabbage. The Japanese garden with its brightly painted bridge just adds to the glorious confusion.

Let’s face it, the weather in Swansea can be a bit unpredictable. But that’s all part of the charm! In the winter, you might experience a bit of rain and bad weather, but don’t worry – there are still plenty of things to do and see indoors when the weather takes a turn for the worse.

And when the sun does come out (which it often does), Swansea is transformed into a glorious city that’s perfect for outdoor activities and exploring the great outdoors.

So, bring your raincoat just in case, but don’t let the weather stop you from experiencing all the amazing things that Swansea has to offer!

But what really sets Swansea apart is its unique personality. Known for its friendly locals and laid-back atmosphere, the city has a charm that’s hard to resist. It’s a city where you can take a stroll on the beach in the morning, visit a museum in the afternoon, and enjoy a live music performance in the evening.

It’s also the birthplace of Catherine Zeta-Jones, the Hollywood A-lister was born and raised in the city and got her start in acting in a local theatre group.

It’s also a city that was once a major centre for copper smelting and nicknamed “Copperopolis” in the 19th century.

So whether you’re interested in history, culture, or outdoor activities, Swansea definitely has something to charm the pants off during your time here.

A Brief History Of Derby, Derbyshire

Swansea has a rich and fascinating history that dates back over a thousand years. Originally a Viking trading post, it grew into a bustling port town in the Middle Ages, exporting wool, coal, and copper to destinations all over the world.

As you also know, Swansea became known as “Copperopolis” back in the 19th century thanks to its thriving copper industry, which made it one of the wealthiest cities in the world at the time. The city’s industrial heritage can still be seen in its historic buildings and museums.

During World War II, Swansea was heavily bombed by the Germans due to its strategic location as a major port. Despite the damage, the city bounced back in the post-war era and continued to grow and develop.

Today, Swansea is a vibrant and diverse city that’s known for its friendly locals, beautiful coastline, and rich cultural scene. From the Dylan Thomas Centre to the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, there’s something for everyone in this dynamic Welsh city.

11 Top-Rated Tourist Attractions in Swansea

Written by Bryan Dearsley Updated Mar 22, 2023

The second largest city in Wales, Swansea is also the name of the county in which this important cultural and economic center can be found. This coastal town is known as "Abertawe" in Welsh, and its suburbs extend as far as the scenic Gower Peninsula .

A port at the mouth of the River Tawe, Swansea grew in size thanks to the export of iron, coal, and copper, the latter once so important that it leant Swansea its nickname of "Copperopolis." These days, Swansea is now an important trading center, university town, and industrial base.

It's also a big draw for tourists and one of the top places to visit in Wales thanks to its vibrant cultural life. Find the best things to do in this lovely coastal town with our list of the top tourist attractions in Swansea, Wales.

1. Explore the Gower Peninsula

2. three cliffs bay, 3. the dylan thomas birthplace, 4. take a stroll in clyne gardens, 5. shopping in swansea market, 6. visit during the swansea international festival, 7. the mumbles and swansea bay, 8. national waterfront museum, 9. the swansea museum, 10. the dylan thomas centre, 11. glynn vivian art gallery, map of tourist attractions in swansea, swansea - climate chart.

The Gower Peninsula

The Mumbles form the gateway to the Gower Peninsula (Penrhyn Gŵyr), a limestone massif of great scenic beauty. In fact, it's so attractive that the charming Welsh south coast here has been classified as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It's also a nature reserve that, apart from the towns and villages, is only accessible on foot. It's one of the top places to capture beautiful pictures in Wales .

There are a number of great beaches to explore here, including sandy stretches at Langland and Caswell Bay. Both are particularly popular among surfers. In fact, the Gower Peninsula is becoming an increasingly popular place to visit for tourists who like outdoor adventures. Whether you like to walk, waterski, abseil, sail, wakeboard, or play golf, you're sure to find something fun to keep you occupied.

If there's time in your travel itinerary, try to visit a Norman castle, the castles at Pennard and Oystermouth in particular are worth a trip. You can also stop to see Arthur's Stone , a famous monument along the ridge at Cefn Bryn .

The peninsula boasts a mild oceanic climate and good soil on its chalky clay deposits, making it ideal for agriculture. This fact is reflected by the wide variety of crops grown in the market gardens around Bishopston and Killay.

Also of interest is Weobley Castle. Located on the opposite side of the Gower Peninsula from Swansea, this attractive 13th-century house combines domestic comfort with security.

Location: West Glamorgan, Wales

Three Cliffs Bay

Also often referred to as "Three Cliff Bay," this breathtakingly beautiful bay is situated on the south coast of the Gower Peninsula just 20 minutes' drive away from downtown Swansea. So named for the three cliffs that jut into the bay, it's a perfect place for a walk or picnic.

Although getting down to the beaches can be a bit steep and cumbersome, the view when you get there is worth every step. The bay is actually home to a number of beaches each side of the main beach. Be warned, though, that they're usually only accessible when the tide is out, when the area appears to be one large beach.

Many tourists enjoy the spot so much that they park caravans nearby to enjoy a camping holiday. Others bring their dogs along to frolic in the water.

This restored home of famed Welsh poet and writer Dylan Thomas allows tourists to step back in time. Guests can enjoy an Edwardian afternoon tea party, lunch, or dinner in Thomas's old abode. They can even eat in Thomas's parlor and snoop through his study while soaking up stories of the poet's life on a guided tour.

If walking through the house isn't enough, guests may even choose to spend the night here. Tourists are more than welcome to snuggle up in one of the house's cozy, perfectly restored bedrooms, which remain much as they would have in 1914.

Another plus: the owners of the house offer guided tours of Thomas's old haunts. A well-trained guide takes tourists through Swansea, the Uplands, Mumbles , and Gower , and makes them feel as if they're seeing these places through Thomas's eyes.

Those who really want to impress their friends can even hire actors to perform Thomas's works at the house. Be sure to call before visiting, as the house may be booked for an event.

Autumn in Clyne Gardens, Swansea

Swansea boasts many magnificent parks. But its Clyne Gardens are perhaps the city's most popular green space. Established in 1860 and famed for its colorful displays of rhododendrons and azaleas, this superb botanical garden, once part of the old Swansea Castle, consists of 47 acres of parkland and gardens.

All told, the grounds feature more than 2,000 species of plants, including over 800 varieties of the aforementioned rhododendrons. A lovely gazebo is a park highlight and was built by an old admiral in order to keep an eye on ships entering Swansea Bay.

Other features to check out are the bamboo-filled Japanese garden, an artificial lake with scenic bridges and a waterfall, the bog garden and bluebell wood, as well as the 1908 Clyne Chapel.

Shopping in Swansea Market

Swansea's mostly indoor market offers a perfect escape from the rain, not to mention a good excuse to treat oneself to something tasty or shiny. Although markets have been held in the streets of Swansea since the Middle Ages, much of the city's modern day market is held indoors, and has been since the 1700s.

Today, this shopping mecca is not only the largest indoor market in Wales, it's also home to more than 100 stalls selling everything from jewelry to tomatoes. Delicacies include varieties of strong Welsh cheese, mussels from nearby Burry Bay, and laver bread made from seaweed and served with oatmeal. With so much to choose from – shoes, ornaments, clothing, books, and greeting cards are also available here – everyone will find something nice to take home. The market is held everyday except Sunday.

Once you have finished browsing, enjoy wandering through the wide Kingsway at the heart of the town center. Those who are still fighting the shopping bug can visit the city's main shopping areas along Union Street, Oxford Street, High Street, Princess Way, and Portland Street.

Brangwyn Hall, venue for the Swansea International Festival

The cultural life of Swansea, which counts the eloquent Welsh poet Dylan Thomas (1914-1953) among its sons, is always lively, with the theater and the arts well supported.

The Swansea International Festival (formerly the Swansea Festival of Music and the Arts) is the high point of the town's social calendar. This world-renowned event takes place every October (and sometimes during late September) at a variety of venues around town.

These include Brangwyn Hall, All Saints Church, Great Hall, Taliesin Arts Centre, the National Waterfront Museum, and Volcano Theatre. This popular annual festival includes various large-scale concerts by world-famous orchestras, as well as local musical talent, theatrical productions, opera performances, and art exhibits.

Another popular Swansea event is the Gower Festival . This two-week festival offering nightly performances of choral and chamber music.

The Mumbles pier

The Mumbles, a headland that is part of wide Swansea Bay, is a wonderful place to walk and explore. Called "Mwmbwls" in Welsh, this fishing village sits at the western edge of the bay. Thanks to its long promenade, piers, cafés, restaurants, and numerous entertainment facilities, it's a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.

The Mumbles is a great place to cycle, rest, or wander while soaking up the refreshing atmosphere. With a bevy of play areas throughout, kids love coming here, too.

On a hill above the Mumbles lie the ruins of 13th-century Oystermouth Castle with its gatehouse, great hall, and chapel. A prominent lighthouse stands on Mumbles Head, the two cliffs from which the area gained its name.

Address: Castle Ave, The Mumbles, Swansea, Wales

National Waterfront Museum

A mere 10-minute walk from the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, the architecturally stunning National Waterfront Museum (Amgueddfa Genedlaethol y Glannau) is a must-see when in Swansea. Highlighting over 300 years of industry and innovation in Wales, this fun museum uses hi-tech displays and exhibits to show just how important the region was to the development of Britain.

Highlights of the museum's 15 themed galleries are old steam-powered machines and railway engines, as well as a variety of maritime-related artifacts. Once you've had your fill of innovation, walk by the Swansea Docks to the Swansea Marina , where you can gawk at historic sailing vessels and inhale the deep-sea air. Admission is free.

Swansea Museum

No visit to this Welsh city is complete without taking a look at the Swansea Museum. The oldest museum in Wales, the Swansea Museum was established in 1841.

Today a visit to this fine establishment is undoubtedly one of the best things to do for free in Swansea. Among its six galleries are everything from ancient Egyptian mummies to fascinating exhibits dealing with life in the city during two World Wars.

Swansea Museum also has a number of interesting annexes. Located in the city's Maritime Quarter are a number of historic vessels, including a lightship and a tugboat, as well as a large collection of memorabilia and artifacts related to public transit housed in the city's former tram shed. A gift shop is located on the premises.

The Dylan Thomas Centre

Located in the historic old Swansea Guildhall, the Dylan Thomas Centre houses a superb exhibition focusing on the work and life of the great Welsh poet after which it's named. A permanent exhibit, "Love the Words," uses Thomas' writing, including letters and published works, as well as photographs, to explore the poet's rich life.

The center also serves as a focal point for a variety of leading literary events and festivals, including the annual Dylan Thomas Festival held each autumn. It also hosts a regular program of music performances and book readings.

The Glynn Vivian Art Gallery

The Glynn Vivian Art Gallery was founded in 1911 to display the artistic works donated by Richard Glynn Vivian, a well-travelled art collector from a wealthy copper family. The gallery received a multi-million-dollar renovation in 2016, which turned it into a more modern place to store art collected over the past century.

Today, the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery is supported by a grant from the Arts Council of Wales and the Heritage Lottery Fund. It boasts a varied collection of a range of visual arts, including works from masters such as Monet and contemporary Welsh artists like Bedwyr Williams, Gwen John, Ceri Richards, and Augustus John. It's also affiliated with the much-celebrated Tate galleries in London.

The gallery also features a vast collection of Swansea China and porcelain, as well as European and Oriental ceramics and glass paperweights. Those who are feeling peckish can grab a quick bite in the café before taking in a lecture or performance event.

There are hours of fun to be had at Plantasia, which has also been used as a location for the BBC cult show Doctor Who .

Oystermouth Castle

One of the Gower’s flagship castles, Oystermouth sternly surveys the coast. The first castle on this site was built in 1106, it was held by the notorious Norman De Broase family in the middle-ages, and it fell into ruin by 1650.

Glynn Vivian Art Gallery

This internationally renowned art gallery opened in 1911 and was built in the Edwardian baroque style. It houses the collection of donor Richard Glynn Vivian as well as several old masters, and an extensive collection of the famous Swansea porcelain. Recently re-opened after extensive refurbishment, the Gallery is well worth a visit.

The Mumbles

places to visit in swansea

The Mumbles is a small headland on Swansea Bay, 15 minutes’ drive from the centre of the city. The lighthouse was completed in 1794 to protect tall ships from the perilous rocks. Originally powered by coal, the lights are now, more eco friendly and solar powered.

Dylan Thomas Centre

An arts centre located in Swansea Marina, the building was originally the city’s Guildhall. Opened by former US President Jimmy Carter in 1995, it offers a permanent exhibition about the life and work of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, as well as hosting many other events.

Swansea Beach

A wander along Swansea Beach is a must. Buy an ice-cream and head over the little wall, which follows the main road, to escape for a few minutes. While the sea laps at your feet, look out over the waves and the vast bay vista.

Norwegian Church

Wales saw its fair share of Norwegian sailors during the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries. Swansea’s Grade II listed Norwegian Church, was originally built in Newport Docks someway down the coast, however in 1910 it was rebuilt at the heart of Swansea’s dock area. It was to be moved, a second time in 2004 – to its present location – and is now a jewellery shop.

Three Cliffs Bay

places to visit in swansea

Wales’ most beautiful campsite lies at the head of Three Cliffs Bay. The views are breathtaking and out of season you can walk for hours without being disturbed. In the summer it is an extremely busy beach, yet it always manages to retain that feel of relative isolation. A night under the stars with the sea lapping at the base of the cliffs won’t be easily forgotten.

Hafod Copperworks

This was once extremely important in the Industrial Revolution, since Swansea’s location proved ideal for the processing of copper and tin mined in Cornwall. This was brought in great boats up the Bristol Channel before being sent to various smelting works in the Swansea area. Hafod Copperworks offers a glimpse of a forgotten industry and allows visitors to immerse themselves in the industrial history of the area.

Swansea Castle

In the centre of the city, Swansea Castle is well worth a visit. Although only a small part of the original castle survives, it has a fascinating story to tell – from its capture by the Prince of Deheubarth to its final incarnation as the town’s workhouse. Parts of the castle were demolished in the early 20th century to build a newspaper office, in which Dylan Thomas, Swansea’s most famous son, worked.

Swansea Museum Tramway Centre

At The Tramway, visitors will find memorabilia, not only relating to the the street trams of Swansea but also the world-famous Mumbles Train, which travelled around Swansea Bay, taking passengers from the city centre to the Mumbles Pier. With several examples of trams on display, this little museum of transport is great for a quick stop – and it’s free to enter.

Swansea Grand Theatre

places to visit in swansea

This beautiful, late Victorian theatre was built in 1897 and opened by legendary opera diva Adelina Patti who lived in the area. Saved from closure in the 1960s, it now stages musicals, plays and ballets and is home to its own theatre company. With a 1,014-seater auditorium that’s brimming with period character, an evening at the theatre is a perfect addition to the Swansea ‘must-do’ list.

Dylan Thomas Birthplace

Think of Swansea and think of Dylan Thomas. Although he spent much of his life a little further into West Wales, he was born in Swansea and lived there until he was 20 – and his poetry-writing career started in Swansea whilst attending the local grammar school. This splendid arts and crafts house, which Mr Thomas called home, is a place of literary pilgrimage.

Swansea Market

You cannot visit Swansea and not pop into the market to pick up a packet of salt and vinegar-dressed cockles or Welsh cakes. Still vibrant and extremely buzzy with lots of artisanal stalls, Swansea Market is a definite ‘must-see’ on the holiday agenda.

Gower Heritage Centre

Swansea and the Gower, a small peninsula renowned for its beaches, have a rich heritage. Whether it’s learning about the Welsh-costumed cockle pickers, who supplied markets across the country, or just understanding the place Gower has in history, the Gower Heritage Centre is well worth a visit.

1940s Swansea Bay

places to visit in swansea

Swansea suffered terribly in World War II, with parts of it flattened by bombs. This little museum offers visitors a glimpse of those troubled years including rationing and air-raid shelters.

St Helen’s Rugby Football Club

In 1882, St Helen’s was the venue for the first ever home match of the Welsh Rugby Union national team. Since 1921, Glamorgan has played cricket at this ground, and some very famous cricketing moments have been witnessed here. Catch a game on a summer’s day.

Penllergare Valley Woods

These beautiful woods are perfect for a long walk or picnic. Beautiful in all seasons with charming lakes and waterways, this picturesque valley lies to the north of the city, providing a little haven on tranquility for visitors.

Swansea Marina

places to visit in swansea

With its vibrant nightlife, striking footbridge and hundreds of little boats, Swansea Marina is a pleasure to visit at any time of day. At night it is especially atmospheric when the buildings reflect their lights into the still harbour.

The best things to do in Swansea Bay, Wales

Updated On 26th February, 2024

The city and county of Swansea covers an area of nearly 380 kilometres in the South of Wales and is home to the likes of Swansea Bay,  The Gower Peninsula ,  Langland Bay  and the Mumbles, all full of wonderful things to do in the Swansea Bay area. Wales, in case you’re reading from overseas, is a country in the southwest of Great Britain, and home to many of the  best places to visit in the UK .

The Swansea area itself actually only takes up a very small percentage of Wales, around 2%, but the scenery and rugged coastline that it offers is not to be undermined. Where to stay in Swansea Bay?

The good thing about this area being so small is that it doesn’t take long to drive around and to get between places. During our weekend we didn’t do any journeys over 30 minutes and we explored  a lot ! So when choosing somewhere to stay, just choose a location you love and that suits your desires.

Are you coming in your motorhome / van / with a tent?  We stayed at  Pitton Cross Caravan Park  (open all year round with views of the ocean!).

Do you want to stay near the beach?  My favourite guesthouse is without a doubt,  Langland Cove Guesthouse  right on Langland Beach.

Fancy somewhere quirky / local? Take a look  here  for some unique stay options.

The best things to do in Swansea Bay…

1. walk some of the 51 miles of coastal path in swansea bay.

Get your hiking boots on and choose from the many routes that hug the coastline with views across the limestone cliffs, coves and ocean. Rain or shine, these hikes are breathtaking and the fresh air combined with the views will do wild things to you and your soul. Soul food at it’s finest.

Download a map of the coastal paths  here.

We did (and I can recommend):

  • the walk from Langland Cove around to Mumbles pier and back
  • the Rhossili Bay walk up on the downs past St.Marys Church which takes you over to Hillend campsite and back along the beach

Check out all the best walks and hikes in Wales in this blog post.

The best things to do in Swansea | Planning your trip to Wales | Where's Mollie? A travel and adventure lifestyle blog

Bring a pair of hiking shoes / boots with you. The Welsh weather can be hit and miss (with a large dose of unexpected rain) so it’s a good idea to be prepared for all weather on hikes. Shop my waterproof and very comfy walking boots  here.

2. Explore and enjoy the coves and beaches in Swansea

The rugged coastline here in Swansea is interrupted so frequently and hosts cove after cove. If walking between them isn’t your thing, one of the best things to do in Swansea is pull up to one of the beaches accessible by car and enjoy food overlooking the ocean be it a picnic or in one of the restaurants.

  • Three cliffs beach for a picnic. This beach when the tide is out is just incredible.
  • Rhossili Beach for lunch at  The Lookout  (best coffee) or a drink at The Worms Head Hotel.
  • Langland Beach for lunch at Langland Brasserie as you watch the surfers take to the ocean.

Looking for more beautiful beaches?  Here are the best beaches in Cornwall, England…

3. Soak up the beauty of Rhossili Bay

This is the beach everyone talks about. 3 years on from my last visit, Rhossili Bay still took my breath away. It’s just such a vast landscape and standing looking out over the beach just blows my mind. Rhossili Bay has been voted in the top 4 beaches in the UK for 4 years in a row and it’s not hard to see why.

Whether it’s for an afternoon coffee, a walk over to Worm’s Head, a long walk over the headland and back along the beach or for just a gaze and a photo – don’t miss the best thing to do in Swansea!

10 photos that will make you want to visit the Gower Peninsula

4. Engage in some outdoor adventure, try something new!

Outdoor adventure is huge over here in Swansea – Wales is just the best outdoor playground. I was surprised at how many surfers I saw in the water whilst I was over here, on Langland Beach and Caswell Beach to name just a couple of spots. We only had a few days to play with for adventure and we chose:

  • Wind winging with  Gower Stand up Paddle  (@supgower on IG)
  • SUP with  Gower Stand up Paddle
  • Canyoning, woodwork and team building adventures with  Down To Earth.
  • Horse riding through the countryside with views over Swansea Bay with  Clyne Farm Centre.
  • Rock Climbing and Abseiling on Three Cliffs Beach with  Gower Activity Centre.

If you’ve never hiked before, check out my  beginners guide to hiking here .

10 photos that will make you want to visit the Gower Peninsula

5. Visit Swansea Market

I didn’t get around to it this time but rumour has it this is the best place to visit in Swansea to pick up local Welsh produce… including incredible Welsh cakes. You’re welcome.

The best things to do in Swansea | Planning your trip to Wales

See my 16 hikes in the UK that you cannot miss  here.

6. Tuck into some countryside grub, in a pub!

You may have heard about the rain that is no stranger in Wales? Don’t let the rain warn you off coming, embrace it. Get your waterproofs on, get out in nature and then tuck up in a pub for some hot food and a drink to toast your adventure.

Whilst we were in Swansea we tucked into some great food and warm atmospheres in:  King Arthur Hotel  and  Oxwich Bay Hotel .

I also heard Michelin star restaurant The Beach House is incredible but requires advanced bookings!

The best things to do in Swansea | Planning your trip to Wales

6. Wander the shops in Mumbles and have lunch

One of the best things to do in Swansea is head to the Mumbles, which has a gorgeous array of shops to spend the afternoon wandering through. Mumbles is right on the sea front at Swansea Bay so combining the two is a perfect mix. I can suggest Verdi’s (Italian restaurant right on the pier), Momo’s (vegan eatery) and The Secret Bar and Kitchen (right on Swansea Bay beachfront).

Visiting the UK in the winter? Here are  12 tips for adding adventure into your UK winter trip.

7. Walk over to Worm’s Head

Park up in the National Trust car park, soak up the views over Rhossili Bay and then walk over towards Worms head. Time it 2.5 hours either side of low tide and you can walk over to the two islands (which are cut off at high tide).

Before crossing, check if it’s safe at the Rhossili Coastwatch Centre. This can be dangerous to cross when the tide’s on the turn because of the strong currents and undertow.

Swansea Indoor Market

Swansea was established as a market town in the 1100s. Its traders spread out over the centuries, taking over the curiously named Frog and Goat Streets and eventually filling Castle Square and Wind Street. In the 17th century, a dedicated hall was built and this is where the largest market in Wales can still be found.

Stalls selling fine foods, locally reared meats and handmade cheeses, artisan bread and cakes vie with colourful crafts and designer jewellery. See studio pottery on a stall next to tooled leatherwork and boho clothing. It’s all here.

It will take you just five minutes to walk to the market from Swansea station. Once you’re there, browse the stalls to your heart’s content.

The Gower Peninsula

Attracting visitors from around the world, the Gower Peninsula covers some 70 square miles. It offers a rare chance to experience nature unspoiled and beautiful.

Many come for the glorious beaches, such as Llangennith, Oxwich Bay and Rhossili, popular with surfers and families. An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Gower’s landscape is vastly diverse and ranges from peat bogs and salt marsh to limestone cliffs and short cropped grassland.

No less than six castles are situated around the peninsula. There’re also numerous cairns and standing stones, some dating back to at least the Upper Palaeolithic era.

The wildlife too is impressive, with marine mammals including seals, dolphins and porpoises frequently visible around the coastline. You can also spot snowy feathered kittiwakes, razorbills and cormorants’ nests on the rugged cliff faces. Everywhere you look on the Gower, there’s something to surprise and inspire.

Stretching out over the waves for 835 feet (255 m), Mumbles Pier is Grade II listed and opened in 1898. It’s provided fabulous views across Swansea Bay ever since.

Home to the traditional attractions you’d expect, the pier boasts a thriving amusement arcade. There’s also the ‘Gamez Room’ offering bowling, pool, a free juke box and lots more. At the end of the pier is the new RNLI Lifeboat station.

Swansea Castle

In Swansea city centre you can easily find the remains of the imposing castle that guarded Swansea since the 1100s. Founded by Henry de Beaumont, the first Earl of Warwick and Lord of Gower, the castle covered a vast 4.6 acres. It’s seen many battles and some very different uses over the centuries.

It was a bottle factory back in 1670 and has also served as a post office, workhouse and a military drill room. It was even the home of the South Wales Daily Post, early employer of the famous Welsh poet Dylan Thomas.

Swansea is the city full of scenic charms, culture and activities.

It not only has the shops, bars, restaurants and museums that you'd expect to find in any city, it also boasts a stadium, marina - and plenty of beaches to choose from too.

And whether you live here or you're just visiting Swansea , there's so much to explore and enjoy and you will be spoilt for choice on a day out.

Read more: The 20 most exciting things we can look forward to in Swansea in 2021

It’s difficult to list the best things to do in Swansea because there are so many. However, we’ve put a list together of 20 things that every visitor should do when they come to the Welsh City.

1.Enjoy the local beaches

places to visit in swansea

Swansea is home to some of the best beaches in the UK - but don't just take our word for it though, Rhossili Bay was voted TripAdvisor’s best beach in Britain (and also the ninth best in the world).

With three miles of golden sand along a blue vision of a coastline, Rhossili Bay, situated at the western end of popular holiday destination of the Gower peninsula is a little taste of Europe in Wales.

If you’re looking for a beach for the whole family, including your four legged companions , there's plenty of places to choose from - such as Mumbles , Pwll Du, Pobbles, Three Cliffs, Tor Bay, Crawley, Oxwich, Mewslade, Rhossili , Llangennith, Broughton, Whiteford Sands and Port Eynon.

2.Visit Swansea Market

places to visit in swansea

Ask anyone from Swansea, and they will tell you that Swansea Market is the best market in Wales, hands down (Sorry Cardiff). The award winning market has a diverse range of stalls and is a real melting pot of the city. It has a bustling atmosphere that makes it feel like a home from home. And the random and varied collection of stalls means there's always something different to discover. If you want fresh and quality made produce there's an array of butchers and fishmongers. If your pallete has a more global taste then there's a Thai and a Japanese stalls too. Heck, if you wanted to buy expletive laden punk rock on vinyl, grab a Christian book and then purchase retro video game before acquiring antiques and donning a wig you can do it within a matter of minutes.

But there's two things every visitor must do: buy some cockles and grab some Welsh cakes. If you haven't done either of these, then have you really been to Swansea Market?

3. Explore Mumbles

places to visit in swansea

Mumbles is one of the jewels of Wales and has been the place people have made holiday memories for decades, nothing beats walking along the promenade on a sunny day with an ice cream in your hand.

Take a stroll on Mumbles Pier - which, fact fans, is 835ft and has dominated Swansea Bay's landscape for more than 100 years. It's attractions include an amusements arcade (you will spend lots of money, be warned) a gift shop and a cafe. And if that doesn't float your boat enough, then you can also enjoy some fishing too.

Oh, and we forgot to mention, that the pier is even holding it's very first Christmas market this winter.

4. Treat yourself to an ice cream at Joe's or Verdi's

places to visit in swansea

You're spoilt for choice when it comes to ice cream in Swansea. You'd think that one legendary Italian ice cream parlour would be enough, but no - Swansea has two of them: Joe's and Verdis. Asking us which one is better, is like asking which one of your kids is your favourite - or whether you'd prefer your lungs or oxygen. We can't choose between the two.

Joe's Ice cream has been in the city since 1922 and they offer a variety of flavours - although their traditional one is the stuff of legend.

Verdi's, a short walk down from Mumbles Pier, also has a restaurant with authentic (but most importantly delicious) Italian food as well as an impressive ice cream menu.

5. Take a stroll around SA1 and Swansea Marina

places to visit in swansea

Swansea Marina and SA1 is located behind the Swansea barrage at the mouth of the River Tawe. It is a great place to walk around and take in the scenery while also doing a spot of boat-spotting.

If you want to explore the city's rich maritime history then there's the National Waterfront Museum, which is free. If experiencing the wet stuff first hand is more your thing, then the LC has a fantastic swimming pool with great water slides and a wave machine.

And if you're worn out after all that walking and sight seeing, there's plenty of bars and cafes in SA1 and the Marina to kick back and relax. Bonus.

6. Stroll through Singleton Park

places to visit in swansea

Singleton Park has acres of simple, unadorned green space. It is a must visit for families of all ages and is the prefect destination for a picnic.

It's home to a small boating lake plus it has crazy golf, an adventure playground and botanical gardens too. It's a great place to walk or cycle through. And during the autumn, it looks even more spectacular. Be prepared to take dozens of photos.

7. Take a look around the museums and galleries

places to visit in swansea

As previously mentioned, the National Waterfront Museum is a great (and free) place to visit in the Marina. But don't let the name mislead you, it's not just about boats or the water. In fact it is a treasure trove of Welsh life and culture - from its industrial past right up the present day. Among the highlights include an ultra rare Gilbern classic car - a sports car that was made in Wales. You can read more about that here . It also has some immersive interactive displays too. Above all, there are some impressive pieces that are sure to capture the attention of both children and adults.

And just across the lawn from the National Waterfront Museum, is the more traditional Swansea Museum - which has an ancient Egyptian mummy as well as a Second World War Collection - which brings to life the hardships of wartime in Swansea.

Other museums to tick off your list include the Egypt Centre at Swansea University, The Dylan Thomas Centre and The Gower Hertitage Centre.

And if you get your kicks from all things visual, Swansea's Glyn Vivian Gallery has some eye-catching as well as thought provoking pieces of art. It's a great launchpad for talented up and coming artists, as well as established ones. It also houses the sprawling art collection of 19th Century industrialist Richard Glynn Vivian.

8. Blackpill Lido

places to visit in swansea

Located in the heart of Mumbles, the lido features a fantastic paddling pool, an extensive children’s play area, climbing rock and picnic facilities. And the best bit that every parent will want to hear - is it's free. Go armed with a picnic, or make the most of the cafe on site.

The lido is located over the road from the award-winning Clyne Gardens (see below) and Swansea Beach, if you want to make a full day of it.

9. Explore the Gower with Gower Coast Adventures

The street is packed with bars, clubs and restaurants so you definitely won't be disappointed. Sadly, according to the stadium's website, behind-the-scenes tours have been postponed because of coronavirus. However, when they come back, they're definitely worth booking a place on. In the interim, a walk around the ground and taking a few photos while you're there is still an option.

14.Secret bar and kitchen

The Secret Beach Bar & Kitchen is located on Swansea Bay’s seafront with stunning views of the beach.

In the day you can walk in, sit on the terrace with sea views and by night you can enjoy succulent steak and have an intimate dining experience. You can also grab a quick takeaway for your walk from the Secret takeaway unit.

And The lower and upper Lliw reservoirs are surrounded by a variety of habitats including bracken and scrub broadleaved woodland. The Kardomah has been an institution in the city for more than 100 years, having initially opened in Castle Street in 1905, with the likes of Dylan Thomas, and poets Vernon Watkins and Charles Fisher filling its seats and even becoming known as the Kardomah Gang.

Sadly the cafe was destroyed as the Blitz struck the city but for its many loyal customers Portland Street has become the place they have grown to call their "second home" for the past 62 years.

And it hasn't changed a bit in all that time, with its original tables, pillars, tiles and overall appearance staying exactly the same as the day it opened.

The suburbs of Swansea, Wales' second-oldest town , extend as far as the lovely Gower Peninsula. A port at the mouth of the River Tawe, the city grew in size thanks to the export of iron, coal and copper (the latter once so important that it leant Swansea its nickname of 'Copperopolis').

Now an important trading center, university town and industrial base, Swansea is also a big draw for tourists thanks to its vibrant cultural life. The city has a number of remarkable attractions, which are worth seeing and enjoying.

Heading to South Wales? Check out the best things to do in Swansea and the Gower Peninsula. You’ll find beautiful beaches, castles, and charming villages…

I must admit that my knowledge of the UK is pretty poor. I know London well, in fact, I’ve lived there for a few months, and I’ve visited a few other destinations in England, but apart from that, I didn’t really know much about it.

When I found out that my friend Tianna from New York was coming to London as well on the occasion of a big travel fair, we decided to extend the trip and go on a little trip for a couple of days. None of us had been to Wales before, and South Wales seemed close enough to London to be heading there for just a few days.

That’s how we ended up in Swansea, Wales!

Table of Contents

A SHORT INTRO TO SWANSEA

Have you heard of it? Famously dubbed by poet Dylan Thomas as an “ugly, lovely town”, Swansea is the second-largest city in Wales . The city suffered tons of destruction during the Second World War, but now it makes for the perfect base to explore the region of Swansea Bay and the Gower Peninsula.

Swansea City is also one of the largest university cities in Wales, so the population is young and lively . I found Swansea to be more hipster than I was expecting, with cute boutiques and barbershops. It’s nice to walk around explore its streets.

HOW TO GET TO SWANSEA

Swansea is approximately 41 miles (or 65 km) from Cardiff , the capital of Wales. You can take the train from Cardiff Central to Swansea starting at $8 for a standard train when you book in advance. The average journey time from Cardiff to Swansea is 52 minutes.

In alternative, you can also take the bus which is slightly cheaper and takes 1 hour and 15 minutes on average.

If you are coming from London, you can reach Swansea via train , bus , or car . Known as a gateway to Gower, many of those who visit Swansea from London do so on a short break – not just a day trip. I’d recommend you to spend at least the weekend here .

▶ You can drive to Swansea from London. The city of Swansea is about 87 miles to the west of London via the M4 and A483 roads. This is about 3 hours and 40 minutes’ drive, depending on the traffic situation.

▶ Another cool idea is to rent a motorhome from a local owner and make it a road trip! There are so many beautiful places to explore in the area (and to stop at for the night), and this way you can be more flexible with your itinerary.

▶ To get to Swansea by train from London , you can hop on a train from Great Western at the London Paddington Station. There are hourly direct trains that travel between these two destinations on a daily basis. The trip takes about 3 hours. The cheapest train ticket you can get during the off-peak services is £50 or 65 USD (only when you purchase the tickets in advance as two single one-way tickets).

▶ To get to Swansea from London via bus, you can book a ticket with the National Express Coaches. The bus ride can take anywhere from 4 hours and 30 minutes to 5 hours and 30 minutes. There are a few bus trips to Swansea during the day, and they start from Victoria Coach Station in London. A round-trip bus ticket starts at $40.

Learn All About Dylan Thomas

Dylan Thomas is a famous poet and author, and the most famous person from Swansea. In fact, Dylan Thomas used Swansea as inspiration for many of his works. There are a few attractions in Swansea that were built to honor his life and works. Check them out.

Dylan Thomas Birthplace – 5 Cwmdonkin Drive

places to visit in swansea

5 Cwmdonkin Drive is the birthplace of Dylan Thomas. He was born in a lovely Georgian house within the uplands of Swansea .

Half of the poems that were written by Dylan Thomas, he wrote them while he was in this house – from 1930 to 1934. A century later, the house fell in despair until 2003 when it was restored by a Swansea local, Geoff Haden.

Stepping into the house is like stepping back in time . The home, now beautifully restored and furnished, was recreated to look exactly like the childhood home of Dylan Thomas. It really feels homey, rather than sterile like most museums.

We were lucky enough to meet Geoff, who’s a passionate storyteller. He sat us down in the living room and told us all about the private life of Dylan. He was quite the character! Then we proceeded to have a wonderful homemade meal right there in Dylan Thomas’ former kitchen .

In fact, the house is open for tours, but guests can also have meals like the one we had, and can sleep in the house as if it were a guesthouse. How cool is that?

Since the house is privately owned, you need to call in advance to book a visit .

Opening Hours : Daily from 10.30 AM to 4.30 PM.

Entrance Fee : £8.00 for adults or £6.00 for students or children below 16.

Dylan Thomas Centre

The Dylan Thomas Centre can be found in the former Guildhall of Swansea, which has been transformed to celebrate the life and works of the famed poet and author . There is an exhibition on the site that provides an interactive timeline of Thomas Dylan’s life, where you can even listen to audio recordings of the writer himself.

You’ll also get the chance to learn more about his works , including one of his most famous poems, “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night”.

There are events taking place in this center weekly, so definitely add it to your list of things to do in Swansea when it’s raining!

Opening Hours : Tuesday to Sunday from 10 AM to 4.30 PM

Entrance Fee : Admission to this attraction in Swansea is free .

Find the Dylan Thomas Mural

places to visit in swansea

Right outside the Quadrant Shopping Mall you can find a pretty cool mural inspired by Dylan Thomas . Simply head to the end of the mall towards the bus station, and get out on the left from the bus station. Keep following the walls of the shopping center and you’ll find the mural in the parking lot.

Go on a Tour of the Gower Peninsula

The Gower Peninsula is only a short drive from Swansea. It’s known as Britain’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty since 1956 , and it’s easy to see why. The peninsula boasts a variety of landscape formations such as sandy beaches, rugged cliffs, wild moors, and more. It’s nature at its best.

You can visit the area by yourself by driving around, or you can join a Gower Coastal Tour like we did for a great day trip from Swansea. Steve is a local who founded Gower Tours a couple of years ago, and now leads tourists to visit both the most famous spots in the peninsula and some more off-the-beaten path locations.

Unfortunately, this tour isn’t offered anymore.

places to visit in swansea

During this tour, you will get the chance to walk up the beach, see wild horses in the vast moors, and visit the Gower Coast villages. We also stopped at a cute village cafe (the Lookout at Rhossili) for brownies and coffee, and Steve made it feel like a trip with friends rather than an organized tour.

places to visit in swansea

The full-day tour includes pick up and drop off and is only available in the summer and spring . ➥ BOOK IT HERE

When you visit the Gower Peninsula there are two places you can’t miss: Three Cliffs Bay and Rhossili Bay .

Three Cliffs Bay

places to visit in swansea

The Three Cliffs Bay is one of the most beautiful beaches in Gower Peninsula , I might even like it more than the more famous Rhossili Bay. I had no idea before visiting that Wales offered such wild beaches. The shoreline consists of spectacular sand dunes, three limestone cliffs, and a salt marsh.

The beach is sandy and wide , and the fact that you can’t get here by car contributes to its charm. You’ll have to go down a coastal path from the parking lot to get to the beach, but it’s totally worth it.

While this is a beautiful beach, please stay safe at all times because the tides can get strong without warning . There are lifeguards on duty from 10 AM to 6 PM during the summer. Dogs are also allowed on this beach. Toilet and parking facilities are available. If you want to try camping in Swansea Bay, here it’s a great camping site with incredible views over the bay .

Rhossili Bay

places to visit in swansea

The weather unfortunately wasn’t great the day we went on our Gower Peninsula tour. By the time we got to Rhossili Bay, in fact, the fog was so bad that the beach was totally invisible. Bummer! The pictures that I’m showing you here are from sunny days, because otherwise, all you’d see would be a white canva lol!

Rhossili Bay offers 3 miles of gorgeous golden sand beach with an equally stunning coastline. It’s the perfect place to go on a coastal walk and soak in the views!

In 2018, Rhossili Bay was named as the Best Beach in Wales . It also ranked third in the TripAdvisor UK’s Traveller’s Choice Award. This maybe didn’t come as a surprise, as for years, Rhossili Bay has had the nickname “The supermodel of British beaches.”

It’s also a favorite destination for pet lovers as it has consistently been named as the no.1 dog-friendly beach in the UK . This beach is open all days of the week and all year round.

Visit the Gower Brewery

places to visit in swansea

During our Gower tour we went on a detour to the Gower Brewery as it was raining and it didn’t make much sense for us to be outdoors. The Welsh know one thing or two about beer , and here they produce a few types of craft beers. We had a chance of doing a tasting after touring the brewery. Worth adding it to your itinerary as it’s one of the most unusual things to do in Gower.

Discover the Best Places to Eat in Swansea

The foodie scene in Swansea is more vibrant than I was expecting . During our weekend in Swansea, we managed to try quite a few different food scenes, for different flavors and experiences.

places to visit in swansea

The Swigg Swansea is a can’t-miss restaurant when you want to experience the foodie landscape of Swansea. This restaurant offers a casual dining experience consisting of small plates that are similar to tapas, cocktails, and live music.

On the menu, you’ll find dishes like crab cakes, calamari, smoked duck croquettes, pizza flatbreads, and more. We also loved our lavender gin cocktails – to be real honest, we loved the whole experience, from the presentation of the plates to the atmosphere of the place .

places to visit in swansea

The Langland Brasserie is an award-winning restaurant known for serving the best food in Swansea Bay. It’s known for its great food that utilizes local produce and is recognized as one of the UK’s best . We had a reservation at Langland Brasserie but unfortunately, it started raining like crazy, and being without a car we decided to cancel the reservation… next time!

If you are looking for great homemade food and Italian coffee while relishing panoramic views of Rhossili Bay, head to The Bay Bistro & Coffee House . Other ideas for eating out in Swansea are Cast Iron Grill & Bar , Bistrot Pierre , Mumtaz , and Beaufort Arms .

Stroll Down the Mumbles Pier

places to visit in swansea

Picture it. It’s a warm sunny day, and you and the family are strolling down the pier, stopping at one of the ice cream parlors, enjoying the sun and the views… isn’t it the perfect summer day?

places to visit in swansea

A visit to Mumbles Pier is a great idea for a family day out in Swansea. The pier was built in 1898 , it’s one of Swansea peninsula’s most defining landmarks and it retains a lovely vintage vibe. I loved seeing all the vintage signs!

places to visit in swansea

On the pier you can find an amusement arcade , restaurants , a mini bowling alley , and more bizarre attractions … plus of course ice cream!

You can also sit by the beach next to the pier and enjoy the view of the Mumbles Lighthouse . I definitely recommend passing through here, it’s one of the best things to do near Swansea and you can easily reach Mumbles by bus if you don’t have a car. It’s just a 20-minute ride from the bus station in Swansea.

Visit Oystermouth Castle

places to visit in swansea

When we visited Oystermouth Castle in Mumbles , there were all the conditions for a truly spooky experience. It was raining, the wind was blowing, and Halloween decorations were still scattered around the castle.

This for me only added to the magic. Oystermouth Castle is run by volunteers , and Dai brought us around defeating the rain to tell us all about the castle’s history. A long one, since the castle has been around since the 12th century and it been recently partially restored.

places to visit in swansea

Despite the fact that Wales has over 600 castles, Oystermouth Castle stands out from them because of its spectacular views. The castle is located on a hill , so on a sunny day you have great views all over Swansea Bay.

Some of the other outstanding features of this castle include the 14th-century ancient graffiti art, a maze of deep vaults, secret staircases, and a 30-foot high glass bridge.

Opening Hours : Tuesday to Sunday from 11 AM to 5 PM from April 2nd to September 30th, and during the weekends of October. It’s closed during the winter months.

Entrance Fee : £5 for adults.

Enjoy the Swansea Nightlife

When you’re done exploring the attractions of Swansea, it’s time to chill for the night and enjoy a cocktail or two at some of the local pubs and bars . There is a good variety of live music, chill-out bars, and clubs in Swansea, mainly because Swansea is a university city full of students.

Slug & Lettuce is one of the best spots to start a fun night in Swansea. They have an extensive food menu and all kinds of cocktails. It’s particularly fun if you come with a group as they sell cocktail trees that look super cool .

On the same street where Slug & Lettuce is located, you’ll find tons of other bars and pubs to keep going . Come out on a Saturday night and the street is packed with people.

The Uplands Tavern is one of the old-time favorites in Swansea, and it’s recommended for music lovers and those who love to listen to live acts. Brewstone offers an extensive selection of craft beer, while if you are looking for a place with an eclectic character, there’s Noah’s Yard for that.

Visit the Swansea Market

places to visit in swansea

Next on your itinerary, hit the Swansea Market , one of the oldest Swansea attractions. The market dates back to the Middle Age when it was held in the streets of Swansea, and then it was moved to an indoor market in the 1700s . You can’t say this market doesn’t have some history! Since the market is indoors, you have no excuse to skip a visit even on a rainy day.

The market is home to over 100 shopping stalls where you can find anything from fresh flowers, jewelry to fresh produce. There are also a few stalls that sell local delicacies such as Welsh pies, so a fun idea is to come here and go on a DIY food tour from stall to stall.

Check Out the Best Beaches in Swansea

A visit to Swansea won’t be complete without a trip to the beach . I’ve already told you about some of the best beaches near Swansea but there are more to be discovered.

places to visit in swansea

Langland Bay is a family-friendly beach super popular in the summer months and won both the Blue Flag and Seaside Awards . The beach is open daily and all year round but lifeguards are on duty only from May to September. You can also try some water sports activities when here.

Pwll Du Bay Beach is a wilder type of beach . It sits at the bottom of a valley and it’s harder to reach by a trail, but the adventure is worthwhile as this is a pretty and pebbly beach. Don’t expect lifeguards, refreshments, or toilet facilities here, but you can take your dog for a walk and it’s also open all year round.

Finally, you can also add Caswell Bay to your list of beaches to explore in Swansea. It’s a favorite spot for both families and avid surfers, and offers spectacular views and modern amenities , unlike Pwll Du. You can also bring your dog here at certain times of the year (there is a dog ban from May to September).

Walk Around Mumbles, Swansea Bay

I’ve already mentioned the Mumbles Pier, but there’s more to visit in its surroundings. Mumbles is a charming village in Wales , rich in historical and cultural heritage. I’d say that if you’re seeking a unique Welsh experience, you should spend some time in Mumbles and explore its streets and shops .

One of the best things to do in Mumbles is visiting the Lovespoon Gallery , a gallery filled with hand-carved Welsh lovespoons , some of them from the 17th century. These are are spoons made of wood that were traditionally gifted as romantic gestures .

places to visit in swansea

Looking to grab lunch or enjoy authentic Italian coffee in Mumbles? Head to Verdi’s , located not far away from the pier. This is a very popular café in Mumbles and when we visited it was pretty full even if it’s a pretty big place. Try their pasta dishes, and don’t leave without sharing one of their huge ice cream cups.

WHERE TO STAY IN SWANSEA: MORGANS

Swansea is ideal for a short break or a weekend away. During our time in Swansea we were lucky enough to stay at Morgans Hotel , the most luxurious hotel in the city.

This boutique hotel is located at the heart of Swansea , just a few minutes away from both the maritime quarter and the city center and the street with all the bars.

places to visit in swansea

With 42 rooms to choose from, you have an eclectic array of options in terms of room size and amenities. We stayed in one of the Superior Deluxe Rooms , the Benjamin Boyd one. Each room comes with its own unique style , and our room had all the amenities we needed including bathrobes and a tea/coffee machine.

places to visit in swansea

The food at Morgans is also very good. Breakfast is a mix of buffet and made-to-order . There are quite a few options you can choose from like a traditional Welsh breakfast, avocado toast, eggs, and more. On the buffet table, you’ll find juice, yogurt and cereals, fruit, and fresh croissants.

places to visit in swansea

We also had the chance to have lunch at Morgans restaurant one day. We opted for the halloumi burger which was so so good! So if you’re lazy and you just want to stay in, the restaurant is definitely one of the best places in Swansea.

Swansea wait on Placheta scan ahead of contract discussions

Swansea City are waiting on results of a scan to see if Przemyslaw Placheta will play again this season.

And his fitness could be a factor in a decision on the wideman’s future.

Placheta suffered a hamstring injury in the Good Friday draw at Sheffield Wednesday.

There had been hopes of a speedy return only for a further problem to be discovered.

Swans boss Luke Williams is now waiting to see if the 26-year-old winger will be available before the end of the campaign.

Swansea’s final game comes against Millwall at the Swansea.com Stadium on 4 May.

Placheta has caught the eye since arriving at Swansea, making 10 appearances after the club took over the final months of his contract at Norwich.

He has stated he would be interesting in his extending his Swansea stay at beyond the summer.

It remains to be seen whether the Poland international will be offered a new deal, with Williams admitting his fitness would have a bearing on decisions.

“It’ll be a discussion around the table with all the people involved,” Williams said.

“Let’s get some more information what’s going on with the hamstring, see if we can get him back before the end of the season, if not let’s take it all into consideration and see how we feel.”

Williams is likely to give an update before Saturday's trip to Huddersfield.

But he is already facing up to being without veteran defender Kyle Naughton for the remainder of the season, the 35-year-old having also picked up a hamstring problem.

Naughton suffered the injury during Swansea’s south Wales derby win over Cardiff last month, and Williams has conceded it will be difficult for the former Tottenham man to figure again this term.

With Naughton also among those out of contract, Williams says similar discussions will take place.

“When he got fit and on the pitch I was very happy with his performances, I thought he played excellent football for us and has a top mentality,” said Williams of Naughton who has made more than 300 appearances for the club.

“It’s another discussion because every single decision has an impact on five other decisions and we have to balance everything up. It’s very complicated because we have six loans and how many players out of contract, and we have to factor in if someone’s impossible to keep hold of. All of these things have to come into play.

“We’re in a situation of uncertainty with many things, but we have to try and join everything together. It’s challenging, but it’s what we have to try and do.”
