ITV's Coronation Street set tours to return for the first time in two years

Tours of the Coronation Street set - where the popular ITV soap is filmed - are reopening in March this year for the first time in two years. They were originally paused due to the Covid pandemic

  • Updated 09:16, 2 Feb 2022

Coronation Street tours are to return in March for the first time in two years.

The iconic ITV soap has been going for over six decades and now fans of the show will once again get the chance to walk in the footsteps of some of the soap's biggest characters - Roy Cropper (David Neilson), Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor) and Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) - as the soap reopens its set to guests.

After a two-year hiatus, owing to the coronavirus pandemic, Coronation Street The Tour will reopen to give fans an insight into the UK's biggest working television lot. Tours can be booked from Saturday March 12th onwards.

The guided tour will take 90 minutes as fans are guided around the lot at MediaCityUK in Manchester, where they will get a chance to see the set of Coronation Street, Rosamund Street and Victoria Street.

They will also get a chance to take a look at the Rovers Return and Roy Cropper's café Roys Rolls as well as the factory, Underworld, and Dev's shop The Kabin as they enjoy everything the cobbles has to offer.

Armed with all the local knowledge and behind-the-scenes secrets, the guides will take their guests through the whole street, reminding them of some of the iconic storyline moments that took place as well as snap a selfie - or two - on the street!

Steve Masters, General Manager of Continuum Attractions, who are running the tour, said: "Even with all the drama unfolding on our screens over the last couple of years, those cobbles haven’t half been quiet and we’ve missed sharing them with all our guests! But, it’s going to be well worth the wait and we look forward to welcoming our first guests back on the street next month."

Coronation Street is airing some dramatic scenes this week, as Max falls down the stairs after breaking into Daniel's flat and accidentally smashing the last memory of his late wife Sinead.

Daniel is rightly fuming but he takes matters into his own hands and pushes Max towards the door to his flat. However, Max falls down the stairs and appears lifeless as he lays there.

*Coronation Street The Tour re-opens on March 12. You can book tickets at www.coronationstreettour.co.uk .

Coronation Street set tours to return this spring

Coronation Street The Tour is set to welcome back guests to the cobbles from Saturday 12th March, promising a trip down the nation’s most famous street to discover the hidden world that lies behind the camera lens.

Following a two-year hiatus, general tickets have now been released for official tours from this spring, which will run on select weekends throughout the year. Guests will, once again, have the chance to explore the sensational external sets at MediaCityUK (Manchester) on a guided tour which takes in Coronation Street, Rosamund Street and Victoria Street.

Coronation Street set tour

Stepping on to the largest working television LOT in the country, fans will become immersed in the familiar surroundings of the Rovers Return, Roys Rolls, Underworld and The Kabin as they follow in the footsteps of their favourite characters down those Coronation Street cobbles.

Recalling stories from yesteryear as each tour takes a trip down memory lane, guides will share the secrets from behind-the-scenes, point out the locations of iconic storyline moments, give the latest low-down of who lives where and who’s up to no-good - AND ensure everyone gets that selfie on the street, all as part of the 90 minute experience.

Operated by Continuum Attractions, General Manager, Steve Masters, said:  “Even with all the drama unfolding on our screens over the last couple of years, those cobbles haven’t half been quiet and we’ve missed sharing them with all our guests! But, it’s going to be well worth the wait and we look forward to welcoming our first guests back on the street next month.”

Like the rest of the leisure and tourism industry, tours of the Coronation Street set were postponed back in the spring of 2020 as the country went into lockdown. For the safety of all, the site has operated as a closed set to critical production staff ever since. Now, nearly two years to the day, the tour is looking forward to welcoming guests back to Weatherfield on select dates throughout the year.

Joel believed Emily and he weren't able to get along, but they tried again when she became pregnant. Joel then confessed to Emily the fact that he had been cheating, and she left him.

However, recently, Joel's meeting was cut short by her mysterious appearance, which raised the possibility of something more. When secrets from Joel's past are revealed, Emily's presence would add to the plot's drama.

3) Rowan Cunliffe

Based on the most recent twist in her storyline, Lederer's character Elspeth, who appeared on March 27, developed feelings for Ken, and Lederer now hopes to meet him once again.

The debut of Rebecca, portrayed by Gemma Merna, as Adam Barlow's client, establishes a basis for future exchanges and shifts. Merna's casting was first announced by Inside Soap on April 2, 2024.

Who is leaving Coronation Street in 2024?

1) alex bain as simon barlow.

In an unusual plot twist, Alex Bain, who has appeared as Simon Barlow since he was seven years old, will quit Coronation Street . Selling drugs and family tragedies are just two of the primary plots to which he has been linked. Despite the close-knit bond among the cast, Bain, who is now 22 years old, voiced joy and regret about leaving the TV series .

The effect of Simon's departure will be felt especially in light of the upcoming tragic events when Sam Blakeman and Simon find themselves in a car crash. Alex has shared on Instagram that his character Simon Barlow is going to leave the soap opera after 15 years, even though ITV hasn't yet officially confirmed his departure.

2) Lisa George as Beth Tinker

Lisa George, who has played Beth Tinker since 2011, has reportedly decided to leave the show after being an integral part of major plot points and touching the hearts of fans with her character's journey. Summer 2024 will see the airing of her last scenes.

The primary focus has been Beth and Kirk Sutherland's relationship. Fans have questions about the events surrounding Beth's leave and how they will impact the show's dynamics, as George's exit hints at big plot twists .

Many services, such as CBC Gem, Amazon Prime Video, Binge, and ITVX , offer Coronation Street for viewing.

Coronation Street tragedy as Roy Cropper left to die in devastating prison collapse

Roy is found collapsed in his cell in Corrie

It all becomes too much for Roy Cropper ( David Neilson ) in Coronation Street next week as he collapses in his cell.

Roy is currently behind bars for Lauren Bolton ’s ( Cait Fitton ) murder. His friends and family are in the stressful position of trying to find a shred of evidence that proves he is innocent, fully aware that if time runs out, he could spend the rest of his life in prison for a crime he didn’t commit.

When Roy calls the cafe hoping to speak with Nina ( Mollie Gallagher ) in upcoming episodes, Shona (Julia Goulding) passes the phone to Carla (Alison King) but she hangs up, pretending it was a dodgy line.

Back in his cell, Roy has another flashback of Lauren. This time, she is seen approaching the counter in the cafe, and Roy notices there’s something odd about her clothes.

Nina waits for Roy in the prison visiting room in Corrie

Roy’s chain of thought is lost due to a prison officer banging on the door. Back in Weatherfield, Bobby (Jack Crawford) tells Carla he reckons Roy must’ve kept quiet about the false statement.

In the prison visiting room, Nina explains to the prison officer that she’s waiting for Roy.

But just as the officer lets himself into Roy’s cell, he finds him collapsed on the floor.

Later in the week, Mary (Patti Clare) visits Roy in hospital.

When he reveals that he keeps trying to remember the details of a conversation he overheard between Lauren and Max (Paddy Bever), Mary urges him not to give up – if it’s of significance, it’ll come to him eventually.

During Roy’s latest meeting with Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown), he updates her about Lauren’s necklace. Roy suggests that if they can trace where it is from, they might be able to track her mystery boyfriend.

It’s a good lead – but will it be enough?
