Cruise from Barcelona to Rome

Explore two of Europe’s most awe-inspiring metropolises

Cruises From Barcelona to Rome

Explore the very best of Italy, France, and Spain on a cruise from Barcelona to Rome with Celebrity Cruises on the ground-breaking Celebrity Edge. Marvel at the lavender-scented fields and hill villages of Provence, the glamorous beaches of the Côte d’Azur, the candy-colored fishing villages of Italy’s Cinque Terre, and the extraordinary archaeological site of Pompeii, outside Naples.

Or choose a voyage that visits the island of Ibiza, famed for its gorgeous beaches and bohemian lifestyle, exquisite Portofino, and Ajaccio, the pretty capital of craggy Corsica. From bustling La Spezia, gaze at the art treasures of dreamy Florence, or the dramatic Leaning Tower of Pisa. As you sail Europe’s ravishingly beautiful coastlines, sink into a sofa on the Magic Carpet, suspended over the side of the ship, for spectacular sea views.

Make time at either end of your voyage to explore Barcelona and Rome, two of Europe’s most famed cities. Stroll Barcelona’s Las Ramblas boulevard, lose yourself in the tangled alleys of the Gothic Quarter, and admire Gaudi’s magnificent basilica, La Sagrada Familia. In Rome, the mighty Colosseum and the priceless treasures of the Vatican are just two of many reasons to stay longer.

Itineraries

Featured ports.

Jetset Portofino shimmers in the sunlight, the bold colors of the old buildings reflecting in the rippling water of the harbor. Wander through the lush gardens of Castle Brown, stop for gelato and people-watching on the charming Piazzetta, and head up the hill to the grand Splendido Hotel for an olive-oil tasting. Take a trip along the coast to the exquisite Cinque Terre, five jewel-like fishing villages clinging to impossibly steep cliffs and connected by train and fragrant hiking trails.

In the birthplace of the Renaissance, there’s beauty at every turn. Gaze at the ornate ceiling of the Duomo, adorned with exquisite frescoes, and marvel at the astonishing detail of Michelangelo’s David . Wander across the iconic Ponte Vecchio bridge and explore the city’s connection with fashion, from the intriguing Gucci Museum to the handcrafted wares of the historic center’s artisans. Or simply linger over a cappuccino in a sunny square and absorb the magic of this stunning city.

Soak up the boho ambiance of enchanting Ibiza, the “White Island”, fringed by sandy beaches and aquamarine coves. Explore Dalt Vila, the atmospheric medieval heart of Ibiza Town, and shop for floaty island fashions. Join a Jeep safari through sleepy inland villages, or cycle along clifftop trails scented with wild herbs. Head for pine-fringed Ses Salines, one of the finest beaches, and indulge in fresh seafood and iced cocktails with a soundtrack spun by top DJs.

Basking in the sunshine of the French Riviera, fashionable Cannes is the gateway to flower-filled hill villages such as gorgeous Eze, as well as glamorous Monte Carlo, a short drive along the shimmering coastline. In town, stroll the palm-lined La Croisette, where stars pose for the famous Film Festival, and explore the bistros and boutiques of Le Suquet, the old quarter. Shop for art in St. Paul de Vence, or craft your own fragrance on a trip to Grasse, the center of France’s perfume industry.

Corsica’s beguiling capital city sweeps around the curve of a wide, sandy bay, guarded by a 16th-century citadel. In the winding lanes of the colorful old center, see where Napoleon Bonaparte was born. Browse the farmer’s market for olives, local sausages, and mountain honey. Take a day trip to the forested ravines of the Prunelli Gorges, high in the mountains, or join a snorkel tour in the crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean and look out for sea stars, colorful fish, and octopus.

Elegant Valencia, Spain’s third city, is famed for its cuisine—notably paella—as well as its dazzling architecture and laid-back attitude. Visit the gothic cathedral and gaze at what’s believed to be the actual Holy Grail, and browse the Mercado Central for local hams and cheeses. Wander the green ribbon of parkland, the former bed of the Turia River, that snakes through the center. Be awed by the futuristic City of Arts and Sciences, which houses a science museum, opera house, and aquarium.

Explore landmarks in and around Barcelona, including UNESCO World Heritage sites designed by the legendary architect Antoni Gaudí, and enjoy a walking tour of medieval Girona that lends more insight into the Catalonia region.

Note: Due to the amount of walking, this program is not recommended for guests with mobility restrictions.

Operational Note: The Hotel Sophia is now called the Grand Hyatt Barcelona.

Upon arriving at the Barcelona International Airport, you will be met in the Arrivals Hall which is outside the luggage claim area. Please look for someone holding a sign with the cruise line logo.

You will then be transferred to your hotel, where you will spend the evening. Meals will be on your own today.

Note: Single guests will transfer in a sedan and couples in a van. Sedans hold 2 pieces of luggage plus 2 carry-on size bags. Vans hold 4 pieces of luggage plus 2-3 carry-on size bags. If you have more luggage than is permissible, a larger vehicle may be required for an additional cost. Please advise your booking agent at least 21 days before sailing if a larger vehicle is required.

After breakfast at your hotel, you will meet the guide and begin touring the city. You will pass the Columbus monument and the waterfront on the way to Sagrada Familia, the extraordinary still-unfinished church that famed architect Antoni Gaudí worked on until his death in 1926. The guide will explain the history of the church and its lengthy ongoing construction during your outside visit.

Continuing on, you will begin walking through the Gothic Quarter, passing landmarks such as the La Seu Cathedral and city hall. A more sweeping view of Barcelona awaits you upon reaching Mount Juic hill, where you may pause for photos. You will then visit Spanish Village, an open-air museum with replicas of characteristic houses from several regions of Spain. As you meander the grounds, you may observe artists such as glassblowers demonstrating their talents.

A tapas-style lunch follows, after which you will return to your hotel. The remainder of the day will be at your leisure with dinner on your own.

After breakfast at your hotel, you will settle in for a direct transfer to Girona, accompanied by a guide. Northern Catalonia’s largest city, Girona is full of museums, galleries and Gothic churches, strung around a tangle of cobbled lanes and medieval walls. Reflections of modernist mansions shimmer in the river that divides the historic center from the commercial center.

During a comprehensive walking tour of the city center, you will enjoy an inside visit of the 12th-century Arab baths and see the remains of Girona’s historical Jewish community. During free time that follows, you might savor lunch on your own before transferring back to Barcelona, where the remainder of the evening will be at your leisure with dinner on your own.

Following breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will travel to Colonia Güell, another one of Gaudí’s unfinished works. Like La Sagrada Familia, this church is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Businessman Eusebio Güell commissioned Gaudí to build it for his textile factory workers in the village of Santa Coloma de Cervelló. The church is particularly noteworthy because the famed architect introduced advanced technology on it that he finetuned in later projects.

In time, you will travel to Cavas Freixenet in the heart of the Penedès region, a region well-known in Roman times for producing quality wines. There, you will tour the cellars, learn about the production of its sparkling cava wine and enjoy a lunch of local specialties.

Afterwards, you will return to Barcelona for embarkation.

Marvel at the true icons of Rome, including the Vatican Museums, Saint Peter’s Basilica, the Colosseum and the gardens of the Pope’s summer residence, often enjoying private access to areas off-limits to the general public.

Note: This tour not recommended for guests with walking difficulties or those who utilize a wheelchair or scooter due to the amount of walking, steps, cobbled surfaces and lack of elevators at some sites.

Upon disembarkation in Civitavecchia, you will be picked up at the cruise port and transferred to the Grand Hotel Parco Dei Principe which enjoys a privileged location just a short walk from Via Veneto, in the exclusive Parioli district.

Check in is at 3:00pm, and the rest of the day is yours to settle in at your leisure.

Meals are on your own today.

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will tour the Vatican Museums and Saint Peter’s Basilica. The museums contain some of the world’s greatest paintings and sculptures, including works by Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael and Caravaggio. Besides seeing the most well-known exhibits like the Sistine Chapel, you will also visit areas usually closed to the general public, including the tomb of Pope Pius XII and the Niccoline Chapel, which features the lives of St. Lawrence and St. Stephen.

Note: When the Niccoline Chapel is not available, we will substitute with a visit to the “private room of the tears and the room of Pope’s vestments.

After the visit you will return to your hotel. Lunch is on your own.

In the afternoon, meet the group in the lobby and leave the hotel to enjoy a beautiful panoramic drive of the Ancient Rome. Pass by the Colosseum, the Caracalla’s Baths and the Circus Maximus. Then, you will reach Trevi Fountain, theatrically designed by Nicola Salvi; be sure you throw your coin to ensure your return to Roma.

Next, you will walk to the Piazza Navona, a lovely square constructed in the 15th century and lined with cafes and Baroque palaces. Under the Navona’ Square lies the magnificent Stadium of Domitian. The Stadium was commissioned around 80 AD by the Emperor Titus Flavius Domitianus as a gift to the people of Rome, and was used mostly for athletic contests. After the visit you will enjoy a cocktail in this amazing location.

Afterwards, you will return to your hotel. Dinner is on your own.

NOTE: for guests with mobility restrictions, scooters are not permitted in the Vatican Museums and guests with wheelchairs are not permitted to tour with the group. Guests requiring a wheelchair will need to use a Museum wheelchair and a have a separate guide at an additional cost of approximately 150 Euro payable on site (subject to change). Also, at Domitian Stadium there are 20 steps with no elevator.

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will drive East from Rome toward Tivoli.

Tivoli is a small town on the lower slopes of the Apennines where the river Aniene plunges in cascades into the Roman plain. The villas testify to Tivoli’s importance as a holiday resort from the Roman period through the Renaissance. Tivoli or Tibur in antiquity came under Roman control in the 4C BC and it was there that a Sibyl prophesied the coming of Jesus Christ to the Emperor Augustus.

Visit Villa D’Este, masterpiece of the Italian Garden, and included in the UNESCO world heritage list. With its impressive concentration of fountains, nymphs, grottoes, plays of water, and music, it constitutes a much-copied model for European gardens in the mannerist and baroque styles.

After the visit, enjoy some free time to wonder through the colorful open-air market selling all sorts of souvenirs, fruits and local products, then enjoy lunch in a beautiful restaurant overlooking another one of Tivoli’s sights, the beautiful Villa Gregoriana. Drive back to the hotel.

In time, you will return to your hotel where the remainder of the day and dinner are on your own.

NOTE: for guests with mobility restrictions, the Villa d'Este Gardens are not accessible for wheelchairs or scooters. Only the first floor will be accessible in the Villa. The restaurant in Tivoli has approximately 40 steps to enter without an elevator.

After breakfast and check out you will be transferred to the Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport based on your flight departure time.

Cruise the shimmering waters of two spectacularly scenic lakes – Como and Maggiore – each with its own charms and history, which you can reflect upon over dinners characteristic of the Lombardy region.

NOTE: This program begins in Civitavecchia, Italy where guests disembark the ship and it ends in Milan, Italy from where guests will fly home. Flights need to be booked out of the Milan International Airport (MXP) at the end of this program. An economy class internal flight from Rome to Milan on Day 1 is included in this program and will be booked by RSSC’s air department.

Disembark the ship in Civitavecchia, Italy and transfer to the Rome airport for a flight to Milan, Italy.

Note: Guests are not accompanied on this flight.

After arriving at Milan’s Malpensa Airport, you will be met in the arrival hall and transferred to your Hotel in Lake Maggiore with the English-speaking guide. Check-in at the hotel is at 2:00pm. Although every effort will be made to have rooms available sooner, this cannot be guaranteed.

As the remainder of the day will be at leisure with meals on your own, you may wish to ask the hospitality desk to suggest activities and restaurants. Perhaps visit the nearby town of Stresa, Lake Maggiore's most well known and widely visited town.

There may be multiple flights used by RSSC to fly guests to Milan on the first day

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will meet the English-speaking guide in the lobby for a wonderfully scenic drive to Lake Como. Shaped like a large upside-down letter “Y” and surrounded by limestone and granite mountains, the lake is extraordinarily picturesque. It looks even more spectacular from a water perspective as you will discover on a boat cruise to Villa Balbianello. Here you will visit the beautiful gardens and enjoy a traditional lunch at a restaurant overlooking the lake.

Next visit the village of Bellagio, perhaps the lake’s most renowned resort town. The setting couldn’t be more photogenic as Bellagio blankets the shore at the confluence of two arms of the lake. Take your time, take in the views and reflect on the natural beauty.

Once you return to your hotel in Lake Maggiore, the remainder of the afternoon will be at your leisure, leaving you time to relax before transferring a local restaurant for dinner.

Afterwards, you will return to the hotel for the evening.

After breakfast at the hotel, meet your guide for a tour of Lake Maggiore and the Borromean Islands.

The small Borromean archipelago – which includes islets and larger islands – lies on the far side of the lake. You will reach them on a leisurely boat ride. The islands take their name from the Borromeo family, which has owned them for centuries. Long a resort destination for nobility, the islands have also inspired the likes of writers such as Ernest Hemingway, who set the final chapters of his book “A Farewell to Arms” there. Visit the Palazzo Borromeo on Isola Bella and have some free time to explore.

Continue by boat to Isola dei Pescatori where you will have a typical lunch.

Following the cruise, you will return to your hotel to spend the remainder of the day as you please. Your only commitment will be dinner at a local restaurant, a fine way to end yet another fulfilling day.

After breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will take a private transfer to Milan’s Malpensa Airport (MXP) for your flight home. Should you have a late departing flight, luggage storage is available at the hotel.

Boutiques & More

  • Compass Rose As the flagship restaurant aboard each of our ships, the wonderfully spacious Compass Rose serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and features an exceptional variety of European-inspired Continental cuisine, as well as flavorful vegetarian and kosher dishes. Elegantly decorated in blues and silvers with stunning Versace tableware, Compass Rose delights with a beautifully refined atmosphere bathed in natural light during the day.
  • La Veranda Begin your day with breakfast at La Veranda and you’ll forever believe it really is the most important meal of the day. Take in gorgeous ocean views from quiet alcoves jutting out over an iridescent sea while savoring made-to-order omelets and other specialties. Late risers can tuck into enhanced lunch buffets indoors or al fresco on a shaded, open-air deck. Lunches feature a variety of delectable selections, including hot carving stations.
  • Pool Grill The Pool Grill is truly a come-as-you-are venue. Enjoy this casual dining experience whether you're getting a bite after sunbathing or swimming in the pool. The Pool Grill is open-air, yet abundantly shaded for comfortable dining at lunch or dinner. Enjoy grilled-to-order burgers, grilled seafood, sandwiches, and fresh salads. Treat yourself to milkshakes and malts or an old-fashioned hand-dipped ice cream dessert with toppings.
  • Prime 7 A true classic in every sense, the newly refurbished Prime 7 on Seven Seas Navigator® is the epitome of luxury dining. Dark imperial blue walls accented with gold, light leather chairs and rich wood finishes provide a refined and elegant backdrop for prime steaks and seafood. Large artwork, marble sculptures and intricately patterned floors enhance the décor. Enjoy a cocktail at the bar before savoring a succulent filet mignon or côte de boeuf.
  • Sette Mari at La Veranda Each evening, La Veranda transforms into Sette Mari at La Veranda, a casual, intimate dining experience. Choose from authentic Italian specialties inspired by family recipes that span generations, or opt for something with a modern twist like a spice-crusted tuna steak with braised endive, polenta and salmoriglio. Savor it all with a perfectly paired Tuscan wine. Sette Mari at La Veranda is open for dinner only.

Come on along and listen to…The lullabies of Broadway! Our fabulous Production Cast Singers pay tribute to some of the most iconic tunes from an array of the best musicals in town, and throughout the ages! Songs you’ll know and love, and maybe you’ll discover one or two precious little gems. Let us entertain you…because after all “There’s no business, like show business!”

A peek inside the hit-manufacturing machine that was The Brill Building, located at 1609 Broadway, where legendary songwriting teams generated the music that defined the 1950’s and 60’s. This Celebration of “The Brill Building Sound” sings and dances its way through recording studios, a sock hop, pajama party, The Ed Sullivan Show and American Bandstand on a fast-paced nostalgic journey as the beat goes on and on.

The true test of a great song is its quality to endure, to span generations. Tuxedo presents a fresh take on the music of the Rat Pack, the Great American Songbook and the music of legends such as Tony Bennett, Natalie Cole, Frank Sinatra and many more. Tuxedo also updates the “classics” with dynamic arrangements by contemporary artists like Michael Bublé, Christina Aguilara, Brian Setzer and Harry Connick Jr.

We’ll take you on a spectacular voyage through a world of music, rhythm, and dance. This lively theatrical showcase pays tribute to just a few of the many cultures represented by our various crew members onboard. Feel the organic rhythm of Tinikling from the Philippines, and dwell in the vibrant energy of the Bollywood Musical hits of India. We’ll pay homage to the Chinese New Year and marvel at the precision of Irish dance — and the journey doesn’t end there!

  • Card & Conference Room Two complete Card and Conference Rooms can be used for everything from bridge lectures and tournaments to corporate meetings and special events. Gather with a few friends for an afternoon or evening of fun competition with board games, cards and more. Larger groups may increase space by removing the dividing door and combining both rooms.
  • Destination Services If the road to a richer life is paved with the lessons of new discoveries, our Destination Services is a great place to start. Learn about the adventures available to suit every taste and comfort level during your voyage from our dedicated staff. They can arrange unique shore excursions designed for smaller groups or assist with tailor-made pre-and post-cruise programs, from a simple stay in a luxurious hotel to a 3-night extension in a remote locale.
  • Library Well-stocked and offering comfort for the body and mind, you’ll discover our Library is a most elegant setting for reading and relaxing. Curl up with a classic novel or best-selling mystery, play a strategic game of chess or simply soak up the ambience of a sumptuous reading room. Regardless of what brings you here, our library is a welcoming, low-key treasure you just may find hard to leave.
  • Pool Bar When you envision an activity you're only likely to do while on vacation, sipping a frozen drink at a pool bar onboard a glorious cruise ship is probably near the top of the list. You can tick that box at our Pool Bar, where you and new friends can enjoy leisurely conversation over cocktails and frozen drinks in a delightfully relaxed atmosphere.
  • Pool Deck Our Pool Deck features a large heated pool, two whirlpools and table tennis. Surrounded by luxurious teak accents, you'll be consistently awestruck by the pool's magnificent vistas high upon Seven Seas Navigator®. You'll also be impressed by our amiable and dedicated crew, who stand at the ready to provide refreshing beverages and lounge chairs.
  • Putting Green Our Putting Greens are less about self-improvement than group fun as your ship travels from one destination to another. A popular pastime is gathering friends after an afternoon cocktail and heading to the top deck of Seven Seas Navigator® for a spirited competition as twilight approaches and a delicious dinner in one of our stellar restaurants looms.
  • The Casino Get a taste of Monte Carlo excitement at our Casino directly across from the equally inspiring Explorer Lounge. Walk through glass doors into an elegant setting bustling with games of chance that include Blackjack, roulette, poker, and a full craps table, as well as slot machines. The Casino is open every day at sea when not restricted by territorial border limits.
  • Galileo's An ideal spot for cocktails or to simply relax and unwind with an after-dinner drink, Galileo's pulls you in with a shimmering, blue-themed interior. Resident musicians entertain with familiar tunes in the afternoon as well as before and after dinner, and the dance floor comes alive when the night sky fills with stars outside. Game shows, night entertainment and live musical events are featured regularly.
  • Navigator Lounge The always welcoming Navigator Lounge was recently refreshed with new furnishings that enables more guests to sit and enjoy coffee during the day and cocktails around the piano in the afternoon and evenings. Enjoy an informal Early Riser Continental Breakfast where you can enjoy a variety of coffees, teas and juices with a selection of pastries. Later in the day, stop in for a relaxing pre-dinner cocktail and good conversation.
  • Seven Seas Lounge Perfectly tiered for unobstructed viewing and furnished with plush seating, the main show lounge is an intimate venue without a bad seat in the house. The phenomenal entertainment performed here varies from full-scale musical revues to rousing cabaret shows, all backed by our incredible, five-piece Regent Signature Orchestra.
  • Stars Lounge Completely reimagined in light dusty rose and champagne tones highlighted with gold, Stars Lounge is a stellar place to meet new friends. Marble tables glimmer beneath evening dance floor lights where guests can enjoy cocktails and dancing before dinner. The lounge is a popular spot for theatergoers to celebrate the excitement generated by that night’s performance at the nearby Constellation Theater.
  • Fitness Center Serene Spa & Wellness™ fitness experts lead popular exercise classes, such as Pilates, yoga and meditation and are on hand to offer advice and demonstrate the use of fitness equipment. Equipment includes spinning bikes, dumbbells, treadmills, Technogym Strength Machines, workout mats and step benches. One-on-one training can be arranged with a fitness instructor. Guests under the age of 16 are not permitted in the Fitness Center.
  • Jogging Track In addition to planned activities in the Fitness Center, take advantage of other sports-related activities throughout the ship. Deck 12 provides golf cages, shuffleboard, paddle tennis and a full-circle jogging track. Eleven laps around the Seven Seas Navigator® track is equal to one mile.
  • Serene Spa & Wellness Serene Spa & Wellness is a globally inspired, tranquil haven of health, beauty and wellness, offering restorative treatments and activities to soothe both the body and mind. Strengthen and elevate both your body and mind as you engage with a variety of treatments and services designed to enhance your whole being, from massages, and body wraps to facials, manicures and pedicures and exclusive treatments curated especially for Regent Seven Seas Cruises®.
  • Boutiques Stop into our boutiques and browse a wide range of items — upscale handbags to exclusive fragrances to fine jewelry — in an intimate and unhurried setting. You'll also find clothing, Regent Seven Seas Cruises® logo wear and gift items to share with friends and family. Our boutiques are staffed by friendly salespeople. Opening hours vary and are printed in the Passages daily newsletter.
  • Coffee Connection & Club.com Enjoy complimentary coffee drinks prepared by our baristas, as well as delicious pastries, gourmet sandwiches and homemade cookies. Whether perusing international newspapers or simply taking in an always spectacular view, our café is the perfect place to relax, converse and enjoy coffee and snacks throughout the day.
  • Reception & Concierge Our welcoming Reception Desk is open 24 hours a day and staffed by personable, knowledgeable men and women who are happy to answer your questions and provide any general assistance you may need. Reception is also where you may contact the ship's Concierge. Postcards and letters may be dropped off here as well; they’ll be delivered to the postal service at the next port of call.

All guests must ensure that their travel documents are valid, including having enough blank passport pages required to facilitate passport stamping and visas on arrival, where applicable.

Barcelona

The excursions are provided as a sample of what may be offered on this voyage and are subject to change. 15 top adults-only cruises for 2025 & 2026.

Pack your bags and leave the kids behind for your next cruise adventure.

Top Adults-Only Cruises

If your idea of getting away from it all includes a vacation without the kids, consider booking an adults-only or adults-oriented cruise . While some lines provide a fully adults-only experience (i.e., children are not allowed on board), others offer adult-focused venues and activities on the ship to keep you separate from younger patrons.

The following cruise lines provide upscale amenities, immersive excursions, sophisticated dining options, lively nighttime entertainment and time for relaxation among like-minded – and similarly aged – travelers.

Find your perfect cruise

Viking Ocean Cruises

Viking Star Explorers' Lounge at night.

Travelers ages 18 and older are welcome aboard Viking 's adults-only ships, which feature destination-focused itineraries around the world. The line's 11 oceangoing ships carry between 930 and 998 guests (at double occupancy) and offer luxurious, comfortable Scandinavian-style spaces. The line will add Viking Vesta to its ocean fleet in 2025.

Viking's exploration program boasts special access to behind-the-scenes experiences curated for travelers who are interested in history, food, the arts or science. Immerse yourself in local culture with a visit to a traditional family farm near Bergen, Norway, or spend an evening dining on Chinese specialties at a home-hosted dinner in Shanghai .

In addition to these off-the-beaten-path excursions, guests can visit iconic sites like the ancient city of Ephesus (Kuşadasi) in Turkey and the Acropolis in Athens, Greece . Viking also hosts onboard enrichment programs like cooking classes and lectures by historians. Cruise fares include stateroom accommodations with a private veranda, all meals (including specialty dining venues), wine and beer at onboard lunch and dinner, 24-hour room service, one free excursion per port, complimentary Wi-Fi access, and access to onboard amenities such as the Nordic Spa and fitness center.

In addition to its ocean vessels, Viking offers river cruises in destinations around the world – including Mississippi River cruises aboard Viking Mississippi. The line also has two Polar Class 6 expedition ships, Viking Octantis and Viking Polaris, which traverse waterways from Canada, the U.S. and South America to remote destinations in Antarctica and the Arctic.

Virgin Voyages

Virgin Voyages offers an adults-only retreat for guests ages 18 and older. The line currently has three sister ships: Scarlet Lady (the first in the fleet), Valiant Lady and Resilient Lady . The line's fourth ship, Brilliant Lady, is set to debut in September 2025.

All the ships in this adults-only cruise line feature 1,404 cabins (most with balconies) and RockStar Quarters suites, where guests have access to Richard's Rooftop, an exclusive outdoor deck space. The superyacht-inspired vessels boast 20-plus eateries, including restaurants by Michelin-starred chefs, and a variety of onboard fitness and wellness spaces. At Redemption Spa, relax and recharge in the mud room or salt therapy chamber – and then take rejuvenating dips in the hot and cold plunge pools. You can even order a bottle of bubbly anywhere on the ship via the Virgin Voyages app's secret "Shake for Champagne" feature.

Itineraries on Virgin Voyages span destinations in the Caribbean, Europe and Morocco, as well as trans-Atlantic crossings. The line will also feature 21 new ports across its global fleet in 2025, including destinations in Iceland, Turkey, Oman, Italy, Portugal, the Cayman Islands and more. Cruise fares cover meals at all the dining venues and basic beverages such as soda, water, tea and coffee. Gratuities for the crew, Wi-Fi access, entertainment and group fitness classes are also included. While on board, be sure to indulge in a swanky dinner at The Wake and an immersive show at The Red Room, a unique multiform theater at sea.

P&O Cruises

P&O Cruises ship at port at sunset.

Courtesy of P&O Cruises

Two ships in P&O Cruises' U.K.-based fleet – Arcadia and Aurora – are exclusively for adults 18 and older. Arcadia, the slightly newer of the two ships (debuted in 2005), carries 2,094 guests at double occupancy, plus 866 crew. The ship departs from Southampton in the U.K. and sails to a variety of European destinations, ranging from Spain and the Canary Islands to Norway and Iceland; some cruises visit the U.S. and Canada. The ship will also sail world cruises in January 2025 and 2026.

Arcadia's 15 restaurants, cafes and bars include Indian cuisine with a British twist at Sindhu, as well as steaks and seafood by renowned British chef Marco Pierre White at Ocean Grill. Passengers can take a class to sample the line's branded gins; sip Champagne at Intermezzo, the ship's cocktail and Champagne venue; or enjoy a pre-dinner aperitif at the yacht-inspired Spinnaker. After exploring exciting ports of call, head back on board to enjoy Arcadia's elegant interiors and top-notch service. You can splurge on a stone therapy treatment and a visit to the thermal suite at the spa for some extra pampering, followed by a live show at the three-tiered theater, The Palladium. Then, finish off the evening dancing the night away at The Globe.

Aurora is a slightly more intimate ship, carrying 1,874 passengers (double occupancy) and 850 crew members. A four-level atrium gallery sits at the heart of the vessel. Itineraries include destinations in the Mediterranean, the Baltic, the British Isles, Iceland, the Caribbean and South America. There are 19 restaurants, bars and cafes on the ship, including club-style restaurant Alexandria and casual spots like The Beach House. After dinner, live entertainment and dancing await you at the show lounge Carmen's, as do larger productions at the ritzy 660-seat Curzon Theatre.

Top Cruises Designed for Adults

While some all-inclusive – or mostly all-inclusive – boutique and luxury cruise lines are family-friendly, many of the onboard venues and activities are adult-by-design. Since there are few (or no) activities geared toward younger cruisers and no babysitting services, you typically won't find parents with young children on these ships.

Aerial shot of the Azamara ship sailing into the sunset.

Courtesy of Azamara

Azamara's four upscale boutique ships provide immersive travel experiences geared toward adults. These smaller ships – accommodating a maximum of 702 guests – sail waterways and rivers that larger ships can't access, docking in city centers and unique ports of call around the globe.

Many Azamara voyages also offer longer stays and overnights in port, unlike some competitors' itineraries. Some even feature special events, such as a 12-night voyage from Rome to watch the Monaco Grand Prix in May 2025, or a 25-night cruise in February 2025 from Buenos Aires, Argentina , to attend Carnival in Rio de Janeiro . In addition, the line is extending its offerings on Country Intensive voyages in 2024 and 2025 with itineraries in various continental European countries, the United Kingdom, South Africa, Iceland and Australia.

On board, you'll find a wide selection of casual and formal dining options ranging from Windows Cafe to the main dining room, Discoveries Restaurant. Specialty restaurant offerings include top-notch steak and seafood at Prime C and Italian fare at Aqualina. Atlas Bar is a unique venue on Azamara Onward (the line's newest ship), though its artisanal cocktail menu is also available on the line's other ships. Discoveries Lounge is another guest-favorite spot, and wine aficionados will enjoy pairing limited-production and rare vintages from the Wine Cellar with dinner.

Cruise fares include stateroom accommodations; select spirits, wine and beer; gratuities; 24-hour room service; and nonalcoholic beverages. You'll also have access to complimentary AzAmazing Celebrations with special evening and daytime events ashore and on the ship. You can purchase a package that includes additional amenities like unlimited Wi-Fi, specialty dining, shore excursion credits and other perks. Butler service and other extras come with suite accommodations.

When it launched in 2019, Scenic Eclipse I was touted as "The World's First Discovery Yacht." The intimate vessel offers an all-inclusive, ultra-luxurious experience for just 228 guests (double occupancy). The line's second luxury yacht, Scenic Eclipse II, which is nearly identical to its sister ship, debuted from Lisbon, Portugal , in April 2023. The Polar Class 6 rating enables these two yachts to sail to destinations like Antarctica; on these expedition-style voyages, the ship carries only 200 guests and offers a nearly one-to-one crew-to-guest ratio.

All suite accommodations include a private veranda or terrace; butler service; state-of-the-art amenities; a king-size Scenic Slumber Bed; and an in-suite minibar stocked with wine, spirits and other personally selected beverages. You'll also find indulgences like onboard helicopters for intimate excursions and the line's submersibles for underwater exploration.

Guests can enjoy up to 10 dining experiences on the ship, including French fine dining at Lumière; innovative Asian flavors at Koko's Asian Fusion; Italian, steak and seafood specialties at Elements; or an immersive dining experience at Chef's Garden @ Epicure. When it's time for an after-dinner drink, sample craft cocktails or the impressive selection of whiskeys available at Scenic Lounge Bar. Other onboard activities include getting an invigorating treatment at Senses Spa or just relaxing with Champagne and spectacular views on deck 10 at the Sky Bar.

Scenic's ships sail to destinations in Australia and the South Pacific; Europe and the Mediterranean; Asia; the Americas and the Caribbean; and the polar regions of Antarctica and the Arctic.

Celebrity Cruises offers spaces created with adult guests in mind. The Sanctuary, a retreat for guests ages 18 and older, offers an escape from bustling public spaces. The relaxing top-deck venue is available on all Princess Cruises ships and features plush lounge chairs, a spa-like setting and Serenity Stewards, who serve light bites and other refreshments. To fully unwind, consider reserving a private cabana, where you can book an open-air massage. The child-free venue varies from ship to ship, with some offering the exclusive Retreat pool, cabanas and a bar area, and newer iterations featuring more space.

Spellbound by Magic Castle is an exciting new venue aboard the line's newest ship, Sun Princess, for adults 21 and older. The collaboration with The Magic Castle private club in Hollywood offers guests an evening of magic, illusions and theatrical cocktails in a Victorian-inspired space.

If you're heading off the ship for an excursion to Princess Cays (the cruise line's private island in the Bahamas), plan to chill out for the day in an adults-only Sanctuary Bungalow. Located just minutes from the ocean and beach, the rentals accommodate four people, and the price includes two complimentary float rentals. You can also order a gourmet picnic to enjoy while lounging on shore.

Back on the ship, adults can reserve a spot for the line's new Winemaker Dinners, a partnership with Caymus Vineyards. These 12-guest evenings are offered fleetwide, two to three times during each cruise. Winemaker Chuck Wagner personally selected the wines from the notable Napa Valley winery to pair with the elevated five-course menu.

Solarium is Royal Caribbean International 's complimentary, child-free space open to guests 18 and older. Located at the front of every ship in the fleet, this indoor-outdoor oasis (or indoor-only on Quantum Class ships) offers impressive vistas and endless views of the sea. Thanks to a full glass canopy over the interior space, adult passengers can enjoy quiet lounging areas, swimming pools and whirlpool tubs with a view, no matter the weather. Select ships feature a cascading lagoon for further relaxation.

Be sure to grab a tropical cocktail or zero-proof drink at Solarium Bar (or Sunshine Bar, on Quantum ships) to sip poolside while enjoying the ocean vistas. Guests of both bars must be at least 21 years old when sailing from North America or a minimum of 18 when departing from South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

Adult cruisers (18 and older) can relax and chill out at the first suspended infinity pool at sea at The Hideaway on Royal Caribbean's newest ship, Icon of the Seas. The beach-vibe neighborhood, perched eight stories above the sea at the back of the ship, features Champagne cocktails, a DJ spinning tunes, full-size daybeds, a wraparound bar, and endless ocean and sunset views from the multilevel terrace.

Frequently Asked Questions

"Adults-only cruise ships – or adults-only spaces on cruise ships – have become increasingly popular over the years," says Chris Gray Faust, executive editor at Cruise Critic. "That's not only because fewer people are having families. It's also because parents themselves often want the chance to get away, either by themselves for a romantic trip or with friends to celebrate a special occasion, girls' or guys' weekend, or milestone birthdays."

"I seek out adult spaces on cruise ships primarily because I want my experience on a ship to mirror my life on land – a little quieter, with more sophisticated food and drink options," she explains. "I also appreciate the opportunity to connect with my friends who are parents in a space where we can have personal one-on-one conversations or let loose a bit with some drinks. Adults with children are more than just their kids, after all – and they also appreciate a space where they don't have to worry about their little ones."

Anne Scully, a partner at the luxury travel company EMBARK Beyond, says, "With so many cruise lines and sailings, it's always a good idea to have options – and adults-only cruises are very popular." She adds, "Viking and Virgin have always focused on adults-only cruises and most river cruises also cater to adult passengers."

Adults-only cruises are designed with guests ages 18 and older in mind, from the staterooms and dining venues to the onboard entertainment and shore excursions. What you typically won't find on board are water or theme parks, climbing walls, game rooms, and restaurants serving kid-friendly foods.

If you're looking for a relaxing, fun and romantic vacation without the kids in tow – and you don't want to deal with the other passengers' children on your getaway – consider booking a sailing specifically for cruisers at least 18 years old. Alternatively, select a cruise line or ship that caters to mostly adults and doesn't offer any services, kids clubs, babysitting or activities for children.

You don't have to be a kid to be a Disney Cruise Line fan. While the line does not have an adults-only vessel within the fleet, there are plenty of kid-free spaces for adults only. Adults can enjoy cocktails, dinner and entertainment in several venues and relax at designated pool areas on the ship. There's also private, adults-only stretch of beach, Serenity Bay, on the line's private island, Castaway Cay.

In addition, Disney offers one of the best programs to keep youngsters entertained at sea, so you'll find that many of the children hang out in the kids club during the day and in the evening. These club spaces are divided by age groups, and they're typically open until midnight or 1 a.m. so parents – and even adults without kids – can enjoy a night out on the ship sans kids.

8 best Italy cruises for a Mediterranean vacation

MSN has partnered with The Points Guy for our coverage of credit card products. MSN and The Points Guy may receive a commission from card issuers.

You don’t have to search all that hard to find the best Italy cruises — most leading cruise lines offer dozens of itineraries that visit Italian ports, often in conjunction with neighboring countries France, Greece and Croatia.

The reason? Italy has it all: coastlines on both the Mediterranean and the Adriatic, historic port cities (Rome, Venice and Naples among them) and spectacular islands (including Sicily, Sardinia, Capri and Elba).

For more cruise guides, news and tips, sign up for TPG’s cruise newsletter .

Plus, with a cruise season that runs from early April through late October (and even year-round for a few cruise lines), Italy offers something for everyone. Travel here to find an alluring mix of impeccably preserved historic sites, renowned regional cuisines and natural wonders waiting to be discovered.

Here are eight of the best Italy cruises for every type of traveler.

Best Italy cruises for cultural immersion: Azamara

Azamara pioneered the concept of single-country itineraries, which allow for greater cultural immersion and even overnight stays in select ports. The cruise line’s 11-night voyage in October 2024 is one of its most comprehensive.

The sailing begins in Monte Carlo, Monaco, and ends in Rome (Civitavecchia), with visits to seven more Italian ports and Tunis, Tunisia. You’ll explore Genoa, Livorno (overnight for Florence/Pisa), Porto Santo Stefano (on the Tuscan coast), Cagliari (on Sardinia), Trapani (on Sicily), Amalfi and Sorrento.

This voyage is aboard the 684-passenger Azamara Onward, one of the cruise line’s four virtually identical ships. (All are former Renaissance R-class ships built in the early 2000s and renovated over the past several years.) The vessels’ intimate size and Azamara’s focus on cultural experiences and shore excursions emphasizing history and food (including cooking classes and market tours) make for an immersive cruise itinerary.

Other Italy-Intensive voyages in 2023 and 2024 include the following: a 10-night voyage in October 2023 aboard Azamara Quest, a 10-night voyage in April 2024 aboard Azamara Pursuit, and a seven-night voyage in May 2024 aboard Azamara Quest.

Best Italy cruises for small-ship lovers: Windstar Cruises

It’s rare to find a cruise itinerary so fully focused on one specific region of Italy, but Windstar Cruises ’ small ships — three classic sailing yachts and three all-suite motor yachts, which accommodate 148 to 342 guests — allow it to offer cruises to less-frequented ports.

Windstar’s 10-day Sicilian Splendors , aboard its 342-passenger sailing yacht Wind Surf, is available on multiple dates in 2023, 2024 and 2025. The ship will cruise round-trip from Rome and call on six Italian ports: Catania (for Mount Etna), Porto Empedocle (for the ancient ruins at Agrigento) and Trapani (for its signature colored salts and Marsala wines), all in Sicily; the island of Lipari (the largest of seven Aeolian Islands); and Sorrento and Amalfi on the stunning Amalfi Coast. The cruise also visits the neighboring islands of Malta and Gozo.

Five-masted Wind Surf is the world’s largest sailing ship. It manages to be intimate without feeling claustrophobic, although it is worth noting that none of its staterooms or suites has a balcony. There is, however, ample deck space for relaxation, with a pool and two hot tubs, as well as inviting alfresco bars and dining areas.

Related: The 2 classes of Windstar ships, explained

Indoors, the ship’s restaurants and social spaces, such as the Veranda Restaurant, Stella Bistro and the Compass Rose Bar, are light-filled, with elegant neutral decor refreshed in 2019.

Musical entertainment takes place in the Wind Surf Lounge and Compass Rose Bar, and Windstar’s excellent dining program reflects an ongoing partnership with the James Beard Foundation. In select tender ports, passengers can enjoy a watersports platform and take out sea kayaks and stand-up paddleboards.

Best Italy cruises for onboard pampering: Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection

If enjoying yacht-style indulgence as you explore Southern Italy is on your cruise wish list, consider the Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection’s 10-night Rome to Valletta itinerary in May 2024. This cruise visits scenic hot spots such as Sorrento and Amalfi on the Amalfi Coast, history-rich Siracusa in Sicily and three ports (Gallipoli, Taranto and Otranto) in lesser-known Puglia, located on the heel of boot-shaped Italy, before passengers disembark in Malta.

Ritz-Carlton, which entered the cruise realm in 2021 with its 298-passenger luxury yacht, Evrima , offers an all-inclusive “yachting lifestyle” experience. This leisurely sailing features overnights in Sorrento and Taranto and two sea days with ample ways to enjoy onboard pampering. The ship’s spacious suites are designed with a contemporary residential feel and range in size from 300 square feet with an 81-square-foot terrace to 1,091 square feet with a 635-square-foot terrace.

Evrima also offers nine bars and dining venues featuring menus created to reflect the ports visited. For culinary indulgence, guests can book a table at S.E.A., a specialty dining experience designed by Chef Sven Elverfeld of Aqua, the Michelin three-starred restaurant at The Ritz-Carlton in Wolfsburg, Germany.

The ship also features chicly designed spaces for relaxing and socializing, such as the Pool House lounge overlooking an aft infinity pool, a second pool located next to the alfresco restaurant Mistral, a panoramic Observation Lounge and a full-service Ritz-Carlton Spa.

Best Italy cruises for foodies: Silversea Cruises

The three newest ships in the Silversea Cruises fleet — Silver Moon, Silver Dawn and 2023’s first-in-class Silver Nova — all feature the cruise line’s immersive culinary program known as S.A.L.T. (Sea and Land Taste). When Silversea’s next ship, the 728-passenger Silver Ray, debuts in 2024, it will also take its guests on culinary-focused journeys — among them an 11-day Rome to Venice itinerary in June 2024.

The itinerary includes calls on seven ports in Italy: Rome, Naples, Sorrento, Palermo, Siracusa, Trieste and Venice. The sailing also visits ports in Malta, Montenegro and Croatia.

Silversea’s sailings blend food-centric excursions — such as a visit to a family farm for a tasting of fresh cheese, salami and olive oil in Sorrento — with the onboard S.A.L.T. program to make sampling local cuisine a natural part of the cruise experience. The day-to-day menus at S.A.L.T. Kitchen are all inspired by the ports visited. The Terrain menu focuses on that day’s port while the Voyage menu draws from the best flavors of the entire itinerary.

Passengers aboard Silver Ray should definitely pack an appetite — in addition to S.A.L.T. Kitchen, the ship features seven other restaurants. They are La Dame for haute French cuisine, Atlantide for signature fine dining (think caviar and lobster), Kaiseki for Japanese sushi and teppanyaki (as well as pan-Asian dishes), Silver Note for tapas-style dining and live music, The Grill for casual burgers and salads, La Terrazza for handmade pasta and other Italian specialties, and Spaccanapoli for thin-crusted Naples-style pizza. With 11 nights aboard, there’s time to sample all of them.

Best Italy cruises for families: Norwegian Cruise Line

If an Italy adventure with the entire family sounds like the perfect cruise vacation in 2024, Norwegian Cruise Line ’s new Norwegian Viva, launching in August 2023 as the sister ship to 2022’s Norwegian Prima, is an ideal playground for guests of all ages.

The most Italy-focused itinerary? The 10-day Mediterranean: Italy, Greece & Croatia cruise (offered aboard 3,099-guest Viva in late June and late September 2024) calls on six ports in Italy — Rome, Livorno, Naples, Messina, Siracusa and Trieste — as well as the islands of Corfu and Malta; Koper, Slovenia; and Dubrovnik and Split in Croatia.

This itinerary is rich in history and culture, including the ancient landmarks of Rome, the archeological wonders of Pompeii and the Leaning Tower of Pisa near Livorno, plus the beauty and culinary treats (sweet cannoli and savory arancini) of Sicily, where Viva makes two port calls. Though the cruise ends in Trieste, the wonders of Venice are just 90 minutes away, so adding a few extra nights to explore its colorful, canal-laced islands is a must.

Onboard Viva, you’ll enjoy more than a dozen dining options (five of them complimentary, including the casual and family-friendly Indulge Food Hall), 16 bars and lounges and all the fun activities/entertainment (including a production of the Broadway hit “Beetlejuice: The Musical”) that the line offers.

Related: Best cruise lines for families

Top amenities include the three-deck Viva Speedway for exhilarating go-kart racing, three thrilling slides (two of them 10-story corkscrew dry slides and one tidal-wave-style waterslide), virtual-reality gaming in the Galaxy Pavilion, tech-enhanced minigolf and more. Also, Viva’s generous outside deck space — especially Deck 8’s Ocean Boulevard with its lively Indulge Outdoor Lounge and sleek Infinity Beach pools — is ideal for scenic cruising in the Mediterranean and Adriatic.

Best Italy cruises for couples: Oceania Cruises

The sophisticated onboard ambiance and a romantic itinerary are a lovely combination, and couples can enjoy both on the 12-night Mediterranean Tapestry sailing offered in June 2024 aboard Oceania Cruises ’ newest vessel, Oceania Vista.

The 1,200-passenger ship, which debuted in May 2023, will visit four top ports in Italy — Venice/Trieste in Northern Italy, Taormina in Sicily, Amalfi/Positano in Southern Italy and Civitavecchia for a day in Rome.

Beyond Italy, this itinerary offers a sampling of scenic locales in six other Adriatic and Mediterranean countries with a possible pre-cruise stay in Venice. You’ll visit Korcula and Split in Croatia; Kotor, Montenegro; Igoumanitsa and Katakolon in Greece; Ajaccio, Corsica; Monte Carlo, Monaco; Marseille, France; and Barcelona, Spain.

Oceania caters to couples seeking an upscale cruise experience with a culinary focus. Onboard Vista, the atmosphere is sleek and polished, with interior decor awash in elegant neutrals of varying patterns and textures, all woven together into a soothing mosaic (in some cases, literally, as tiled vignettes are used throughout the ship). Vista’s bars and lounges, especially the Martini Bar and the Grand Lounge, are so chic you’ll want to get dressed up every night to enjoy one of the craft cocktails on their newly enhanced menus.

All specialty dining is included in the cruise fare, and stand-out meals at Polo Grill (for an excellent steakhouse menu), Toscana (for authentic Italian, including recipes by Vista’s godmother Giada De Laurentiis) and Red Ginger (for flavorful pan-Asian) are just a reservation away. Two new eateries, Aquamar Kitchen and Ember, serve wellness-focused cuisine and casual American comfort food, respectively, and an expanded Culinary Arts Center lets guests who love to cook take hands-on classes.

Best of all, Vista is an all-balcony ship, so every stateroom features access to fresh air (French Veranda Staterooms don’t have an outdoor sitting area, however). Veranda Staterooms and Concierge Level Veranda Staterooms offer a spacious 290 square feet of indoor space — and some of the best standard bathrooms at sea with roomy walk-in showers and ample storage.

Best Italy cruises for travelers on a budget: Royal Caribbean

To score a budget cruise fare in the Mediterranean, it helps to look for sailings aboard a cruise line’s older ships. If Italy is your main focus for a future cruise, it’s hard to beat the seven-night Western Mediterranean itinerary in September 2024 aboard Royal Caribbean ’s Voyager of the Seas.

It visits five Italian ports: Venice/Ravenna, Messina in Sicily, Naples, Rome and Livorno (for Florence and Pisa). The ship also calls on Marseille and Barcelona. Voyager’s Italy-focused cruise is a jam-packed itinerary with just one sea day.

Ideal for both couples and multi-generational families, the 3,600-passenger Voyager of the Seas (which debuted in 1999 and was last refurbished in 2019) features seven restaurants (including three complimentary dining venues and specialty restaurant favorites Chops Grille and Giovanni’s Table) and eight bars/lounges.

The ship has been “amped-up” so guests can enjoy features found on Royal Caribbean’s newer ships: Perfect Storm waterslides, FlowRider simulated surfing, Battle for Planet Z laser tag, Voyager Dunes minigolf, Studio B ice-skating shows and reimagined spaces for kids and teens.

Nights aboard Voyager of the Seas will be filled with complimentary entertainment options: production shows in the Royal Theater, pub performances by guest entertainers and bands, game-show competitions, pool parties, outdoor movie nights and a ‘70s disco party.

Best Italy cruises for adults-only ambiance: Viking

Is Venice at the top of your wish list? Does an adults-only cruise on a ship with serene, Scandinavian-inspired interior decor and complimentary wine or beer with lunch and dinner sound ideal?

If so, check out Viking ’s 15-night Italy, the Adriatic and Greece itinerary , which sails from Athens to Rome and visits six Italian ports — Venice/Chioggia, Bari, Crotone, Messina, Naples and Rome — with three days spent in Venice. As a bonus, you’ll also visit ports in Greece (Katakolon and Corfu), Croatia (Dubrovnik, Split and Sibenik) and Montenegro (Kotor).

Offered on multiple dates in fall 2023, 2024 and 2025, this itinerary is chock full of port experiences; there are no sea days, and a total of 13 cities are visited. Viking includes one free guided shore excursion in each port, usually a panoramic bus tour or historic walking tour. Use that as an overview and then explore on your own or book one of the cruise line’s longer or more specialized excursions. Onboard guest speakers also offer insight into the ports visited and the cultural landscape.

The cruise line’s nine ocean ships are all identical and accommodate 930 passengers, most of whom are couples over age 55. Onboard dining is available in eight restaurants, including the main venue, The Restaurant and the buffet-style World Cafe, the casual Pool Grill and the Norwegian-focused Mamsen’s. Guests can also reserve dinner at two specialty restaurants (at no extra charge): Manfredi’s for Italian cuisine and The Chef’s Table for multi-course, wine-paired menus that rotate throughout the cruise.

Afternoon tea is served in the elegant Wintergarden. The Aquavit Terrace overlooking the aft infinity pool is a sunny spot to enjoy alfresco dining.

If you’re willing to come back early from port, Viking’s ocean ships offer plenty of ways to relax on board. All passengers enjoy complimentary access to the ship’s thermal suite in the LivNordic Spa. It features a thalassotherapy pool, steam room, sauna and snow room. The Main Pool has a retractable roof and can be enjoyed no matter what the weather. However, if you want to live it up at night, note that the ship does not have an onboard casino.

Bottom line

The best Italy cruises offer access to some of the country’s most-loved cities, as well as a chance to explore some of its sunny islands and lesser-known coastal ports. No matter the itinerary, you’re guaranteed to enjoy the splendid landscapes, treasured antiquities and, of course, the incredible gelato.
