Amala Zandile Dlamini (aka Doja Cat) began her long journey to music stardom in her hometown of Los Angeles. She developed a fanbase quickly thanks to frequent posts on her personal SoundCloud.
Her passion for music grew exponentially, and when her first single “So High” went viral in 2012, she grabbed the attention of executives at RCA Records. Shortly after, she landed a deal with the major label at age 17 in 2014. The soon-to-be star was ready to hit the charts in full force.
Doja Cat relied on virality to launch her career. Her 2018 single “Mooo!” was proof of this stellar promotion tactic. Not only did it spread across social media as a hilarious meme, but it also showcased Doja Cat’s sarcastic and unpredictable personality.
New listeners didn’t know what to expect from Doja Cat’s debut album, Amala. However, fans weren’t disappointed. The 13-track album was the epitome of Doja Cat’s free and unique aura. While Amala was a commercial failure and largely ignored by critics, its blend of hip-hop and pop influences, humor, and sexuality would form the bedrock of Doja Cat’s later success.
As her staple humor shined through the entirety of Amala, she won over the mainstream media and set out to make something even bolder. Her 2019 sophomore album, Hot Pink, showed she wasn’t afraid to stand out. It featured the fan-favorite track “Say So” and garnered attention on apps like TikTok. Continuing to solidify her status as a viral artist became second nature. The rest of 2019 was busy for Doja Cat as she racked up star-studded collaborations with Tyga, Gucci Mane, and Smino.
Doja Cat’s Hot Pink accomplishments included multiple Grammy nominations like Best New Artist, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Record of the Year. The stakes were high for her next LP. Luckily, Doja Cat knew how to raise the bar and further explore her versatility.
In 2021, the single “Kiss Me More” dropped, featuring fellow songstress SZA, and marked another addition to Doja Cat’s discography. It kicked things off right with its catchy, pop-friendly sound. The single hit the radio and sparked more interest on social media. Eventually, “Kiss Me More” secured Doja Cat her first Grammy win. Loyal fans were excited to see what her third album had in store.
Doja Cat’s third album, Planet Her, finally arrived in 2021 and showed she was ready to expand her repertoire. She delivered fresh takes on R&B, hip-hop, and pop while never sacrificing lyrical quality. Listeners got more of a sneak peek into Doja Cat’s perspective on feminism, sexuality, and relationships. Additional features from Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, and Young Thug were another polished element to this innovative album.
Doja Cat’s presence on social media drives her popularity to ever-greater heights. She has the sense of humor to maintain her reputation as a long-lasting internet personality. However, she never lets that overshadow her love for music.
With every full-length release, Doja Cat offers a refreshing view of taboo topics while breaking down boundaries for fellow female R&B and pop musicians. With more albums and concerts on the way, Doja Cat shows no signs of stopping.
Live reviews
Smallest venue I’ve ever been to and definitely one of the best shows I’ve ever been to. From the moment i walked in i could tell that i was going to be incredible close. Me and my girlfriend were only an hour away from Doja Opening and both of her openers starboi & Pelle knocked it out of the park. When she came out it was explosive. Her stage presence was insane. I’ve never seen an artist so willing and eager to interact with fans. I got to touch her hand once and hold it for 3 seconds in the crowd and i made so much freaking eye contact with her (probably because i was the most lit in my area). Song selection was off the chart. I will be seeing her again when she comes to Chicago and that’s a promise

We laughed! We had fun! That was sick!
After each live on your instagram I wish I could see you in concert. And this Friday 8, it’s happened and I was so happy with my friend! He really appreciated because I told about you and your music.
You’re too cute! 4 years ago, I discovered you on spotify and the First song I heard was « so high » and Woah. I was in love of this song « i know you ain’t a drug » but the song it was. The music with Dream Koala, a french artist I like was epic. « No police »!
Now you’re here. I’m proud and I will come to the next concert with all my friend.
Shit I love your personality x)
Laurence a french woman fan. Love <3
She. Is. So. Hot. Her singing is great but i missed out on her twerking because i couldnt get to the front so i watched it through other peoples cameras. Gig venues should really be on a slope so that the short people can see. Or tall people shouldnt be a***holes and stand at the back wher they can see perfectly fine! Im not mad.
The show didn't start till 12:30am when it said it would start at 9am. They should've had the line up to reflect the time that people would go up. Doja said fuck our bedtime but she can also run me over with a car so I guess I'm okay with it.
Please, please, please, I would like not to claim that one of his concerts will be in Spain, on June 10 he was in Portugal which is next to Spain and above all Spain is bigger than Portugal please, please, please.

About Doja Cat:
GRAMMY award-winning global superstar Doja Cat made her first upload to Soundcloud in 2013 at just 16 years old . Having grown up in and around the LA area, she developed a knack for music by studying piano and dance as a kid and listening to the likes of Busta Rhymes, Erykah Badu, Nicki Minaj, Drake, and more. Signed to Kemosabe/RCA Records in 2014, she released her Purrr! EP and followed that with her debut album Amala in spring 2018, but it was her August 2018 release of “MOOO!” which catapulted her into the mainstream and was met with critical acclaim.
Doja Cat released her sophomore GRAMMY-nominated platinum album Hot Pink in November 2019 to mass critical acclaim; the album has garnered over 6 billion streams worldwide. It features “Streets”, the viral sensation that soundtracked the ‘Silhouette Challenge,’ one of the biggest TikTok trends to date and her GRAMMY-nominated #1 smash record “Say So” which has been RIAA certified 6x platinum and catapulted Doja into global superstardom.
With over 20 billion worldwide streams to date, Doja’s creativity and showmanship as a performer have been praised time and time again, she has delivered unique and show-stopping performances on nearly all the major Award Show stages and music festivals throughout the world. Doja Cat’s GRAMMY award-winning album Planet Her came out in June 2021 and dominated the charts, debuting at #1 on the Billboard Top R&B Albums chart and #2 on the Billboard Top 200 and Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and generated the highest first day Spotify streams for an album by a female rapper. GRAMMY award-winning “Kiss Me More” ft. SZA, the lead single off Planet Her is certified 5x platinum by the RIAA and hit #1 at Top 40 and Rhythm radio with over 2.2 billion streams worldwide. That fall, Doja Cat became the first rapper to have 3 songs in the Top 10 at Top 40 radio. Last year, “Woman” went to the top of the Billboard Rhythmic Airplay charts which ascended her to become the first women to have four #1 hits from one album, other hits including “You Right” with The Weeknd and “Need to Know.” She went on to land at #1 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart for the first time. Amongst others, Doja has won 5 AMAs, 5 Billboard Music Award, 3 MTV VMAs, 3 BMI Awards, 2 MTV EMAs, 1 GRAMMY Award and 1 NAACP Image Award along with garnering a total of 16 GRAMMY Award nominations. Additionally, Doja has been nominated for 20 Billboard Music Awards, 10 MTV VMAs, 9 AMAs, 9 BET Awards, 8 MTV EMAs, 5 BMI Awards and dozens more. Most recently, Doja was named one of TIME100’s Most Influential People of 2023, where she was featured on the cover issue in April 2023 as well as performed at the TIME100 Gala in New York City.

The Weeknd announces 2022 tour dates with Doja Cat
After hours til dawn is coming to north america this summer..
The Weeknd has become one of the biggest pop stars in the world over the last few years with his albums After Hours (which contained the smash hits "Blinding Lights" and "Save Your Tears") and Dawn FM , the 2022 project that just might be his masterpiece. There were plans for a massive, hundred-plus date world tour that the pandemic botched at least twice, but hope springs eternal: today, The Weeknd has shared the first leg of his After Hours Til Dawn tour, a more manageable 17-dates spanning North America this summer. Joining him on the dates as a special guest is none other than Doja Cat , who shares a hit with The Weeknd in "You Right."
Tickets for the shows go on sale here Thursday, March 10 at 10 AM local time. Ticketholders for The Weeknd's canceled shows will have access to a special presale starting tomorrow, March 4. $1 from the sale of each ticket will go to the XO Humanitarian Fund, a new philanthropic endeavor from Abel Tesfaye "to support the U.N. World Food Programme’s critical food assistance to communities on the brink of starvation, in countries like Ethiopia, Madagascar and Yemen." Tefaye will contribute $500,000 of his own money to the fund on top of a $1 million donation from World Food Program USA.

Festival headliner delivered an A-game set, ignoring some of her mainstream hits yet bringing enough energy to power what some have called a middling year
D oja Cat took the Coachella main stage as the last official act to perform on Sunday’s bill, becoming the first female rapper to headline the festival. (She’s also only the second Black woman to do so, after Beyoncé in 2018.) Her closer rounded out a Sunday showcase of powerhouse female performers such as Reneé Rapp and Kesha duetting the recession banger TiK ToK – changing the opening line to “wake up in the morning saying fuck P Diddy” – and Victoria Monet grinding through a slick and ultra-sexy set, at one point receiving artfully-simulated oral sex from a background dancer.
It would be diplomatic to say that Doja maintains a distant relationship with her fans, who call themselves kittenz, though their fave does not sanction this moniker. Doja has told those who engage in parasocial relationships with the idea of her to “get off your phone and get a job” and “rethink everything” about their lives. Such boundary-setting has cost her some Instagram followers – around 300,000, to be exact, after going off on them in a social media tirade – but she could care less. “I feel free,” she wrote in an Instagram story after the snafu last year.
So it’s not surprising that Doja kept the stage banter to a minimum; about an hour in, she allowed a cursory, but seemingly genuine, “Thank you everyone.” That was about it. Still, Doja didn’t need to give us the cliched “it’s always been a dream to perform on this stage” monologue to show a deep respect for her audience. She did so by putting on a tour de force of a set, one that merged her musical talents with a clear knack for spectacle. I suspect it will become a staple on best-of-Coachella lists for years to come.
Doja first appeared by popping up on the stage’s extended catwalk, opening the night further back in the crowd, so those of us who hadn’t made it to the pit got a good look at her, too. She first wore an all-white hazmat suit. I thought it was a little Patrick Bateman; the girl next to me remarked that Doja looked like “a whole-ass sperm”.
Whatever the inspiration, she took that off pretty quickly, revealing extra-long blonde hair that went well past her butt, and a matching tunic also made of hair. Her background dancers matched in their own full hair suits, and when paired with their syncopated moves, the vibe was a little Bob Fosse meets Fraggle Rock. The South African a capella group The Joy encircled Doja during Shutcho, a diss track for haters that the group turned into a melodic, choir-like crescendo.
Though Doja is a very 2020s pop star, terminally online and well-versed in the meme ecosystem, she didn’t rely on many gimmicks to make it through her set. The stage design was sparse and industrial. Her numerous outfit changes kept the same off-white palette, very Virgil Abloh-esque aesthetic: sculptural, sleek, architectural. My favorite look was a shaggy bikini set by Entire Studios that could have been a reference to Jane Fonda as Barbarella, or just a sartorial nod to the concept of merkins.
Doja tapped A$AP Rocky, 21 Savage and a giant recreation of a T-Rex fossil for guest stars. During her penultimate song, Paint the Town Red, which samples Dionne Warwick’s 1963 hit Walk on By, I wondered for a moment if Doja was about to make my entire life and bring out the octogenarian legend herself. Instead, she did perhaps the opposite of that and rolled around in a sapphic mud pit with her background dancers for the finale, Wet Vagina.
Though Doja found mainstream success in the pop arena with early pandemic groovers like Kiss Me More and Say So, her Coachella set stuck to rap. Understandably, much of it came from her latest release, last year’s Scarlet. She described the album as a“masculine” response to her desire of moving away from pop princess-dom.
This meant that the fans who were there for Doja’s more accessible fare may have been disappointed by the exclusion of those songs – when the set ended, many mulled around the stage as if they were sure she’d come back rearing into Say So. (Again, she didn’t.)
But to me, it didn’t matter: Doja followed her gut, performed the songs she felt represented her best, all presented in an energetic, top-of-game triumph. For all the endless chatter this year about a lackluster lineup, Doja proved she’s worthy of a headline spot, so long as the people in charge – and, crucially, her fans – trust her to do it her own way.

Doja Cat live at Coachella: an off-the-wall spectacular
April 14, Indio, California: despite a muted crowd response, the rapper puts on one of the most creative sets of the festival
“Express yourself,” a whispered voice hushes through the main stage as the lights flicker. Doja Cat is about to take to the main stage to headline the final night of Coachella 2024, and when she emerges at the end of the runway in a hazmat suit, you know she’s going to do as those two words say.

For the rapper, expressing herself often means doing things others might not – either because her form of expression is too off-the-wall for the rest of the world or too controversial. Tonight, she proves the former spirit is well and truly alive, bringing a touch of brilliant weirdness to the desert.
After the opening two songs, she takes off the white suit that leaves only her face visible to reveal a body suit covered in long locks of blonde hair. Ominous tones roll out over the field as she crawls up to the main stage before ‘Demons’ cuts in, and she’s joined by dancers dressed in yeti costumes. If these are the demons she’s rapping about, they don’t look too bad – cuddly, almost – and she embraces them fully, climbing on one’s shoulders to deliver the final parts of the track.
This is just the beginning of the Doja Cat spectacle tonight, which includes multiple outfit changes and stage antics that get increasingly madcap. After a commanding ‘Tia Tamera’, she disappears behind a curtain, only her silhouette visible, as the buzzing sound of an electric razor whirrs, and she pretends to shave off the thigh-length blonde hair she’s been whipping around until now. When she emerges, she sports a shaved head and a look that can only be described as high fashion cyborg.
As the performance enters its final throes, she’s joined by a very special, unusual guest – the gigantic skeleton of a dinosaur. It rolls down the runway after her as she airs ‘WYM Freestyle’, looking like she’s about to be its next victim. Before the track is up, though, it appears to decide Doja is too formidable an opponent and retreats back to where it came from.
Formidable is exactly what the star is tonight, crafting a fiery set that bounces through her rap-focused songs and never lets the energy drop. ‘OKLOSER’, which gets its live debut tonight, is an infectious highlight, while ‘Balut’ drops the tempo to something a little more soulful but still powerful. When she brings out living human guests to join her on stage, she doesn’t come close to being overshadowed.
21 Savage appears for ’n.h.i.e.’, while Teezo Touchdown ups the weird, vocalising into a flower that seems to require his whole head to be submerged in its petals. A$AP Rocky makes his second appearance of the weekend for a ferocious ‘URRRGE!!!!!!!!!!’, trading bars with his host from the top of a scaffolding tower. Earlier in the evening, South African a cappella group The Joy bring light to ‘Shutcho’.
It’s unfortunate that the crowd tonight isn’t much bigger than it is – or that, other than the fans down the front, its energy isn’t far higher. Sure, it’s the final night of the weekend and the chilly desert winds are roaring, but the reception for Doja is disappointingly flat. Perhaps that’s because she doesn’t give the casual viewers what they want – her pop hits. There is no ‘Say So’ in this set, nor a rendition of ‘Kiss Me More’ – with or without a cameo from SZA . ‘Paint The Town Red’, her latest smash, is saved until the penultimate track in the setlist, but even when its opening notes drop, the response is muted.

Regardless, Doja sticks to her guns throughout and closes the performance in the kind of way that leaves the audience confused. After a brief break from the stage, the rapper reappears back at the end of the runway, which has now turned into a ring full of slimy, grey mud. She and her dancers get stuck into the mess as she closes the set with ‘Wet Vagina’, somehow not slipping and sliding through it but nailing the choreography.
As Doja strides back to the main stage and blows a kiss goodbye, the crowd hesitates, wondering, “Is that it?” They get their answer when the lights finally go out – a subdued ending, perhaps, but one that comes after 90 minutes of pure pageantry.
Doja Cat played:
‘Acknowledge Me’ ‘Shutcho’ ‘Demons’ ‘Tia Tamera’ ‘Fuck The Girls (FTG)’ ‘Gun’ ‘OKLOSER’ ‘Ouchies ‘n.h.i.e.’ ‘Attention’ ’97’ ‘Balut’ ‘Need To Know’ ‘MASC’ ‘Streets’ ‘Agora Hills’ ‘Ain’t Shit’ ‘WYM Freestyle’ ‘URRRGE!!!!!!!!!!’ ‘Paint The Town Red’ ‘Wet Vagina’

Doja Cat Skips the Pop Megahits in Edgy Coachella Performance
Day Three headliner Doja Cat gave a thrilling end to the weekend's festivities, bringing an extension of her Scarlet tour to her Sunday night set at Coachella. The Grammy-winning hitmaker last played the festival in 2022; she is the second Black woman to headline the event, after Beyoncé in 2018.
The 28-year-old MC's performance was a hard-nosed and hot-blooded spectacle, conceived of pure, unadulterated id. Sparing little in the way of stage banter, Doja opened with a sample from Madonna's biting 1994 anthem, "Human Nature" - then blazed through several tracks off her 2023 album, Scarlet , such as "Agora Hills" and "Paint the Town Red." Sampled with Dionne Warwick's 1964 classic, "Walk on By," the latter became Doja's first Number One song as a soloist last September.
Special guests on Sunday included the a cappella group The Joy, who share South African heritage with Doja; they were followed by MC 21 Savage , who rapped opposite Doja in the 2024 track "H. N. I. E." Bashfully wielding a bouquet of baby's breath, Teezo Touchdown joined Doja for a live debut of their song "Masc," as featured in Scarlet 2 CLAUDE : the deluxe edition of Scarlet , which dropped last week. A$AP Rocky also emerged from backstage, raring to throw down to a metal version of their brand new song, "URRRGE!!!!!!!!!!"
Doja omitted her most poppy of songs from her set list, including "Say So," "Woman," and "Kiss Me More," her Grammy-winning pop number with SZA. As Los Angeles' biggest female hip-hop star to date, Doja chose instead to flex her precision as an MC, spitting fire in each verse without missing a single beat.
Doja's cutting, angsty rap flow was matched in might by a live band and a backdrop designed like an industrial power plant, where she moshed, sparred, and undulated along with her dancers. The theatricality of her performance demanded some memorable sartorial moments: She surfaced in a hooded hazmat suit and yellow gloves for her set opener, "Acknowledge Me," then stripped down to a shaggy, blond hair suit to perform her venomous rap track, "Demons." After a thunderous, hard-rock rendition of "Tia Tamera," she dramatically shaved off the fur, and transitioned into a shibari rope bodysuit to perform "97" while trailed by a giant reproduction of a T. rex skeleton.
She punctually closed the show by 1 a.m. with her song "Wet Vagina," which made for a risqué final act. Flanked by a group of female backup dancers, Doja writhed and waded through a puddle of mud, making out and rolling about with the ladies in one lusty mass. Fireworks burst through the air as Doja tore away from the pack and marched down the runway, beaming and covered in muck. She'll be back to reprise her show next Sunday for Weekend Two.

Coachella 2024: 10 female artists who owned the stage both weekends
It's true that all of the artists who play at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival are great at their craft, but if we're being honest here, the female performers are consistently the best.
The women I've seen over the years have shown their fans the true definition of showmanship, which includes highly impressive vocals, perfectly choreographed routines, high production value and some of the best outfits on stage. I don't mean to diss on the men too much — I've been very impressed with Peso Pluma , Tyler, the Creator and Jungle, for example — but I love to spotlight the girls who bring it, and this year's ladies have brought the house down.
Here are just some of the women who dazzled us with their Coachella sets.
Sabrina Carpenter
Sabrina Carpenter pulled out all the stops during her set, playing up the production value of her performance, which featured old-timey ads and trailers for films and a car-stricken motel. Not to mention, her voice commanded the stage, and prevailed over the dusty conditions on both Fridays. The highlight is always her outro to "Nonsense," which she changes up with every performance. She showed a little love to the Coachella crowd during Weekend 1 and gave a cheeky "Saltburn" nod to her rumored boyfriend Barry Keoghan.
Chappell Roan
Chappell Roan has been on the up and up, and her Coachella sets proved why. Not only does she have a powerhouse voice, but her stage presence is beyond fun. Both weekends during her sets in the Mojave tent (the seond of which had one of the largest afternoon Mojave crowds we've seen), she was bouncing around on stage, squealing at the top of her lungs and dancing the entire time. The most fun part was joining in the "HOT TO GO!" dance and seeing a sea of people make the letters with their arms.
The Last Dinner Party
You don't see too many rock girl groups these days, so it's always a blast when one of them comes to Coachella. The Last Dinner Party, made up of six spunky and highly energetic British gals, were a treat to see in the Gobi. Die-hard fans filled the tent, which always makes a set even more memorable when you see how adored an artist is by the masses. I wasn't familiar with the group before Coachella, but they've gained a new fan.
Lana Del Rey
The Friday night headliner during both weekends treated fans to a wide-ranging performance of her musical catalog and gave fans a number of fabulous guests to gawk at. Weekend 1 brought Billie Eilish, Jon Batiste and Jack Antonoff , while Weekend 2 welcomed Camila Cabello, along with Batiste and Antonoff. We can't forget to mention how her haunting vocals filled the air and allowed for a toned down, but still impactful, performance.
Doja Cat 's Sunday night set had it all (both weekends). From mud pits to long blonde strands of hair to white hazmat uniforms, you never knew what she would throw at you from start to finish. Plus, her set was filled with hit after hit, so fans in the audience had no other option but to sing along and dance.
Reneé Rapp
Reneé Rapp showed off her vocal chops and humor when she took the stage both weekends, giving long-time fans and new ones plenty to talk and rave about. It seemed like each song she played was better than the last, in a set that included hits such as "Tummy Hurts" and "Pretty Girls," and she kept the whole concert as fun and iconic as she usually is on press tours (we all remember the "Mean Girls" chaos). Plus, what's more iconic than bringing out Kesha during Weekend 1 and belting along to "TiK ToK"? (She also brought out girfriend Towa Bird both weekends, which was sweet, and collaborator Coco Jones during Weekend 2, and their live "Tummy Hurts" duet sounded even better than the album version.)
Singer/songwriter Bebe Rexha put on an electrifying performance that was filled with songs that were stuck in your head years ago, like "Meant to Be" and "Me, Myself & I," and immediately became stuck in your head once again. Her vocals were impressive, and she and her dancers kept the party going all throughout their nearly hour-long set. The only thing we wanted more from this set was more time with her on stage. (And maybe a special guest during Weekend 2, because we got David Guetta during Weekend 1, but she still held her own.)
What did Chlöe (Chloe Bailey) do when she hit the stage Friday night? She brought it. Her show was sexy, sultry and so entertaining, as the gorgeous singer showed off some amazing dance moves and her even more impressive voice. I wish she didn't end her set 10 minutes early because I was transfixed by her, but hey, even superstars need a little break.
Suki Waterhouse
Mothers do it best, and Suki Waterhouse is the definition of mother, both literally and figuratively (she just had her first child with famous partner Robert Pattinson). With an ethereal garden set behind her and her hair and comfy fuzzy coat blowing in the wind, she looked like an absolute rock star up there, and her fans were eating it all up. I'm excited to see more that's to come from her, especially because her two latest songs, "My Fun" and "Faded," brought good vibes to everyone in the Gobi.
Victoria Monét
Victoria Monét showed off what her mama gave her during both of her Sunday sets, including a beautiful voice, fly moves and rocking stage presence. She was shaking it all for the audience, which only made everyone go crazy and, of course, want to join in.
