My husband and I took The Appian Way Bike Tour, guided by the exceptional Simone. Simone was an excellent guide, very knowledgeable about Roman history and architecture. He took us through beautiful parks, we rode along the actual Appian Way and we saw the remnants of stunning aqueducts and Roman tombs. We learned more about the ancient Romans than we previously knew and were enthralled by Simone's stories that brought history to life for us. If you want to see more than just the Colosseum in Rome this trip is a must. Hidden gems and a taste of what Ancient Rome was really like. This tour exceeded my expectations. Thank you Simone for an absolutely amazing adventure!!!
Our guide Simone and us after 31 km bike ride!!
As an avid cyclist, bike tours are a must when we visit any city. Rome is filled with people on scooters, e-bikes, and buses...we wanted something different. I found Simone's company and sent an email to book a tour for my wife and I. Simone is the best. He's super knowledgable, friendly, and authentic. We started in downtown Rome and safely made our way to the edges of the city walls. We continued through the outskirts of town along the aqueducts eventually stopping for lunch...by this time it felt like we were hanging out with a friend more than paying for a tour. Lunch was at (what seemed like) a local spot before heading down the Appian way back towards town. All in all the tour took around 6 hours. We both highly recommend and would send friends Simone's way in the future.

After a standard morning tour of the Forum, Colosseum, Pantheon and Trevi our 10 and 12 year old children were ready to call it a day. After refueling with lunch, we saw the Forum and the Pantheon again plus biked up to the Capitoline Museum with beautiful views during the sunset, the Mouth of Truth, and the Spanish Steps at night. It was not boring through the jovial guide Simone. He's not only kid friendly but a kid at heart. The children were excited, energized, learned and retained more through his stories! We saw the same sights from angles you can reach only by bike or foot. Everything felt so up close and personal. I thought it would be scary - weaving through the streets of Rome. But Simone watched my beginner 10 year old biker like a hawk and made sure the rest of us followed suit. He turned onto quiet picturesque streets whenever he could. And to top it off - he's a great photographer! And gladly took family photos of us. I think we have our family holiday card photo!
Biking the Appian Way is a must when in Rome. I ended up booking this last minute and as life turns out, it is a HIGHLIGHT of my trip. My guide, the wonderful Simone, has a passion for his city, it's history, and people. He was thoughtful and patient as a guide and caters to your skillset. If you want to enjoy a more authentic experience outside of the usual touristy things in Rome, this is an amazing thing to do: it's adventurous, yet there's plenty of time to take photos, relax a little, and soak in the environment. If you book the afternoon, you get the setting sun and it is truly spectacular. We returned to Rome as night was falling, and cycled through the streets and past the Colosseum which was all lit up in its majestic glory. I highly, highly, highly recommend this activity--and Simone as you're guide, he is truly the best, I promise!

Our bike tour with Simone was the perfect start to our Roman trip last week! I had never been to Rome but my partner had and this tour was an amazing way for me to get a lay of the land while also providing new information and sights for my partner. You do not just go to the typical tourist spots but get a feel for the true life of the city, even in a brief amount of time. Simone's passion for the culture and history of Rome cannot be under-stated. Highly recommend!
Simone made this bike experience excellent! The tour was about 4 hours long and we enjoyed every second of it. We are so glad we decided to do the tour with Free Bike Tours Rome on our first day in the city. Simone really helped us learn the layout of Rome. He is incredibly knowledgeable about his city. Best part about this bike tour was that we weren't seeing the big touristy sites. This was exactly what we were looking for. Simone took us to places we probably never would have visited in Rome. He also was able to give us the history of Rome and all the back stories to every place we stopped. This was one of our highlights of our trip to Rome. Simone will adjust the tour to whatever you want to see or learn. I strongly suggest booking a tour with him. You will not be disappointed!!! We did a number of tours while in Rome (at the Vatican and the Colosseum), and Simone's bike tour was by far the best. We learned the most with him and had the most fun! He is worth every penny and more! Plus, you're supporting a small local entrepreneur!!
Simone, our tour guide, and owner of Free Bike Tours Rome.
Incredible experience. It rained on us in the first quarter of the trip but we ended up all grabbing coffee and waiting out the rain. The sun peaked through and the rest of the excursion was breathtaking. Our guide Simone was amazing. Our group was huge and he kept us all together and kept us aware of each space we entered into.
Our family of four (two adults and a 14 and an 11 year old) did the morning bike tour on July 11, 2019 with Lorenzo the day after arriving to Italy and it was our favorite part of our whole 2 -week trip! We started off early to avoid the heat and the worst of the crowds. Lorenzo asked us our preferences regarding what we wanted to see, helped us select equipment, observed our riding abilities, and then we were off! The tour ended up being five hours as Lorenzo never rushed us and we got to see so many things. We capped the tour with gelato place that ended up being our favorite in Rome. I can't speak highly enough of Lorenzo. He was very knowledgeable about Roman history, which he shared in an interesting and not overwhelming way. He is intimately familiar with the city and was able to show us vistas and perspectives that we would not have seen otherwise doing the usual tours (which we did do in later days). For example, we were able to look down on the Roman Forum and Colosseum from up on a nearby hill. We were able to get an overview of part of the city which then informed our later sightseeing. Lorenzo is also a very skilled bicyclist. The whole time, we felt safe and comfortable, which allowed us to enjoy the sights around us. He helped guide my 11 year old daughter at the end when she was getting really tired. He was easy going and fun. In short, this tour was AMAZING and you should definitely make it a priority if you can.
Amazing bike ride with Simone to see the Appian Way and the Ancient Roman aquaduct.. there were three of us on this 6 hours private tour. My sister got an electric bike, but we thought we rise to the challenge using regular bike..what a great experience! Simone was ÂMAZING!! He loves the city and its rich history. He is so passionate about preserving the culture.. Simone is very knowledgeable and took us to places we would have never seen. He told us the history of the Appian Way and the aquaduct. We would definitely take another tour with him again when we come back to Rome.

Had a great ride with Lorenzo today. The weather wasn't the best, with a bit of drizzle but Lorenzo took us on a 4 hour ride with many interesting stops and provided comprehensive narrative throughout the ride. Highly recommend!

You can pay what you think your walk was worth or what you could afford at the tour’s end.

Just about all of the companies have local guides who grew up in Rome or nearby.

We did the afternoon free walking tour (English group). The tour guide was very good, starting at Spanish steps, continuing to Trevi Fountain, then to Venezia square and through the Roman Forum to finally reach the Colosseum. The tour lasted 2h and it was a pleasure to hear some interesting stories that we could not read in our guide books. We were with our 9 years old child and the tour was not exhausting.
The free walking tour is a great way to be introduced to the city. The guide, Laura, was very kind, open and she knows a lot. She could tell funny details that you couldn't read in any guide book, and she was great at interacting with all the people in the group. I highly recommend to go on a tour with her.
We took the morning tour with Alessandra and cannot praise her enough. A very professional, friendly and informative guide, who clearly loves the city she lives in. She offered the right amount of information to keep us engaged through to the end of the tour, despite the rain. Good coverage of the main sights. Highly recommended.
We did both the morning and afternoon tours. Would highly recommend both. Our tour guides Fabio and Sylvia were brilliant. Fabio has photos to accompany his information. The information was brilliant! I would do these at the start of your trip to understand the city more!

Rating: ⭐️ 4.5/5 ( 20 reviews )
“Worth every penny! Our guide was knowledgeable, helpful, and very charming. A great way to see the Borghese property. A must!” Cynthia, Viator
Welcome to Villa Borghese, Rome’s largest public park! However, calling it simply a public park is simplifying the space to a point of unfairness. Villa Borghese’s grounds encompass a lake, woods, theaters, ruins, a zoo and ornate mansions.
The collected art works of Cardinal Scipione Borghese are on display at the dazzling Borghese Gallery . Also within the park is the Bioparco di Roma, a zoo sheltering several hundred animal species. A tour through Villa Borghese is an introduction to an enriching slice of Rome.

This tour earns our highest praise thanks to amazing guides and a chance to see Rome’s attractions before most of the visitors arrive.
