“Reuniting the original G3 lineup is a dream come true”: Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Eric Johnson are hitting the road for a G3 reunion tour next year

The three fretboard heroes will link up early next year almost three decades after they launched one of guitar's most influential events back in 1996

Almost three decades on from the inaugural G3 Tour, the event’s leader Joe Satriani has reunited with his fellow flagship G3 electric guitar titans Steve Vai and Eric Johnson for a North American tour next year.

The G3 Tour was first conceived back in ‘95 by Satch, who, after tapping Vai and Johnson for its premiere event the following year, continued to organize and lead various follow-up tours across the 20th and 21st centuries with numerous A-list guitar heroes.

Throughout the years, Satch has continued to call upon the services of Vai and Johnson, and has shared the stage with this generation’s most notable players, including John Petrucci, Paul Gilbert, Neal Schon, Yngwie Malmsteen, Steve Lukather, Uli John Roth and countless more.

In total, there have been 13 G3 concert tours, each of which has been the source of some of the best high-profile six-string linkups in history – as well as some bizarre stage demands courtesy of Robert Fripp back in 2004 .

For G3 2024, though, Satch has returned to the event’s roots, recruiting the two guitarists who first helped him launch the concept 28 years ago.

“Reuniting the original G3 line up is a dream come true for me,” Satriani said in a statement. “I can’t wait to take the stage with Eric and Steve again.”

For Vai and Johnson, meanwhile, the overwhelming feeling is one of “honor”. While the Cliffs of Dover mastermind said it would be “an honor to reunite with Joe and Steve and do the G3 tour together again”, the Hydra master echoed, “It’s always an honor to contribute to a G3 tour, and to be with Joe and Eric again playing on stage is like living life to its fullest.”

Set to commence early next year, the tour will take place across January and February, kicking off in Arizona on January 23 and concluding in LA on February 10. At the time of writing, there’s been no official word on any potential guest stars.

When it occurs, G3 2024 will mark a significant full circle moment for all three guitarists. Indeed, G3 is one of guitar’s most well-known and influential feats of fretboard collaboration, and is the longest-running guitar-centric tour of its kind.

It’s become something of a guitar pilgrimage for many fans – and something that the original trio knew would be a hit among six-stringers.

“I said yes immediately,” Vai recently told Guitar Player when the three OG G3 guitarists sat down together last year. “The second Joe told me about what he wanted to do, I was in. And it superseded other plans I may have had, because the concept felt fresh. 

“Plus, it was something that I thought was needed in the guitar community at the time. The idea was just fantastic.”

Johnson held similar sentiments: “I felt the same way. It sounded like a novel idea at the time. I remember my manager said, ‘I like this. It sounds really different and cool.’”

I do not generally write recommendations or reviews; people should perform the job they were hired for to the best of their ability. However, when people constantly go above and beyond expectations they should be commended. Angela and Casey are amongst the best I have ever experienced. They are a wonderful team, hosts, guides, companions, and crew. They exceeded all expectations, always having our safety, interest, and enjoyment at the forefront of their time and effort. The standard at which they work to enhance their guest’s experience are in many ways the difference between good and great. Their efforts started well before our charter, with outlining expectations and understanding our wants and preferences. During our charter it was evident that our safety and wellbeing, both on the boat and while touring the islands, was always their first priority. The hospitality, meals (absolutely fabulous) and the accommodating nature of Angela and Casey made time aboard a real pleasure. I could continue to list many more accolades which Angela and Casey have managed to work out all the details. For the devil is in the details and they have him by the tail! You could not ask for a better couple to manage your charters!

Thanks for everything Broads, Moora :) (Sorry about the hand writing & spelling) This was a mindblowing trip that exceeded everything I thought it would be! I love the island, the boat, and the water, but the best part was getting to meet Casey & Angela. This was SUCH a special New Years and my favorite yet! I´m definitely not ready to go; I could stay here forever but I have a sweet little puppy to get home too ❤ Angela and Casey are so very talented, kind, and welcoming, and I loved getting to know them, and G. Happy birthday Casey and thanks for the fabulous food and being an AWESOME person to be around Angela. This is my favorite trip, and will continue to be!

The food and service were great. It felt like we had the boat to ourselves, as if there was someone else there. We are grateful for the care taken of us this week! Our bin Upoma, the sailing was fantastic, and we would definitely do this again. Thank you for such a wonderful week, filled with excellent excursions and even more exceptional food!!!

Wonderful trip... Expectations exceeded in every way. Casey & Angela were fun, approachable, professional & genuinely lovely people. The kids had a blast. 10/10 would recommend; I may now quit my job to be a pirate in the B.V.I.

This was an incredible trip from start to finish, amazing experience upon the 63´. Angela & Casey were complete perfection and so incredibly kind. They should teach a course on hospitality because it does not get any better than the two of them! The islands are beautiful but Casey and Angela are the ones that made it so very special! Words can’t express our gratitude to Angela for the most thoughtful, tasteful, and well-prepared meals. Captain Casey, you kept us safe both on the land and sailboat. Maintaining a meal schedule. 4. Maintaining the itinerary. 5. Always a supply of fresh water and ice. 6. Very organized. 7. Always keep a step ahead of our next need or want, especially with the grandkids. The list could go on and on. Just know that Joe and I have experienced a few sailboat cruises before, and we have never had as positive experience as we had this week with Angela and Casey. Thank you again for a Wonderful, very memorable vacation.

We hadn´t done this before, so we didn´t know what to expect. Now, at the end of the trip, everyone feels that this experience was something far beyond expectations. The food was fantastic, with something new on the table every day. The activities were just as remarkable, with no two days being alike. The flexibility to engage in activities on land as well as on the boat, like diving, was fantastic. The destinations offered a very good mix, providing a variety of options. This will not be our last trip on a boat, but rather just the first! Finally, the crew did an excellent job, making us feel at home, as if we were sailing with friends. Spending Christmas on board was wonderful, surrounded by the vast ocean.

Dear Angela and Casey, this was our first time having vacation sailing and were afraid, but after 5 days of incredible beaches, views, sunny days you made the difference between a good experience and the best vacation we have ever got. We feel in our home very well cared for, with a great view that put me in love in everything you do. We always felt safe too. Casey and Angela, this vacation was fantastic from planning through de-boarding. This was Max and I´s first trip to the USVI´s sailing! It was so special to be able to share this experience with the entire family. We had so many laughs, adventures, and new experiences! Moscow Metro – Part 2

Have you been to Moscow ? In all seriousness, they have the prettiest metro stations I have ever seen and I still can’t believe how immaculate and lovely every station was. There are several different stations pictured below and this is the second of several posts where I will show you the beauty of the Moscow Metro. Did you see part 1 ?  There really isn’t much to say because I think the pictures speak for themselves. I have so many more pictures to share with you!

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations

Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.

Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.

Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.

The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

Moscow subways are very clean

To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow.   Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.

The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:

1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station  is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.

2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

5. Kievskaya Metro Station was one of the first to be completed in Moscow. Named after the capital city of Ukraine by Kiev-born, Nikita Khruschev, Stalin's successor.

6. Novoslobodskaya Metro Station  was built in 1952. It has 32 stained glass murals with brass borders.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

8. Mayakovskaya Metro Station built in 1938. It was named after Russian poet Vladmir Mayakovsky. This is one of the most beautiful metro stations in the world with 34 mosaics painted by Alexander Deyneka.

9. Belorusskaya Metro Station is named after the people of Belarus. In the picture below, there are statues of 3 members of the Partisan Resistance in Belarus during World War II. The statues were sculpted by Sergei Orlov, S. Rabinovich and I. Slonim.

10. Teatralnaya Metro Station (Theatre Metro Station) is located near the Bolshoi Theatre.
