2. Pygmy Slow Loris

These petite nocturnal creatures are found in the marshy riverlands of eastern Vietnam. Found in the bamboo thicket areas of Hanoi, these pygmy species are venomous. They basically feed on natural vegetation but are most endangered currently. 5. Water Monitor Lizard

1. Itinerary

Morning: 5:30am (may be little early or later base seasons) Pick up at your hotel in Hanoi. Then transfer to Cuc Phuong National Park for 150 km with 2.5 hours car ride, to visit Cuc Phuong National Park  which was Vietnam's first national park and is the country's largest nature reserve. Upon arrival at Cuc Phuong National Park visit the  Endangered Primate Rescue Center  and  Turtle center  -short walk around to see free morning birds, enjoy 1 hour.

After that drive to the central of park, en-route stop at bird station 1 for looking. And then keep drive to  Cave of Prehistoric man  - the site of one of the earliest discoveries of human habitation in Vietnam for looking some  Stone babbler ,  Limestone Wren Babbler . After that going to another station to see some crowded common family of  Kestrels ,  Kingfishers ,  Blue-rumped ,  Magpie robin ,  Nightingale ,  Racket-tailed treepie ,  Red-collared Woodpecker ,  White eye ,  Eared Pittas ,  White-winged Magpie ,  Starling ... After cached bird stations on the way. Keep drive to the central for another bird view point and bird route for looking  other species as  Pied Falconet ,  Eared Blue-rumped ,  Bar-bellied Pittas ... After that have lunch at local restaurant to enjoy Vietnamese jungle foods. ( see bird listing )

Afternoon:  Check available bird routes or enjoy good good bird route.

Late afternoon: 17:00 transfer back to Hanoi city or Ninh Binh for drop you off your hotel. Finish full day trip to Cuc Phuong National Park for watching birds around 19:30.

Day#1 Pick up from hotel in Ha Noi or Noi Bai airport then drive to Cuc Phuong national park for about 3 hours (without traffic) and stop en route at Van Long Van Long Nature Reserve, 30km from Cuc Phong, we will take a sampan ride to some dramatic limestone cliffs that are one of the last haunts of the critically endangered Delacour’s Langur Overnight at Cuc Phuong HQ (3 nights) Day#2 and #3 Birding in the park to explore the Vietnam’s oldest National Park and an area of lowland forest and lakes easily accessed by a paved road. It is rich in birdlife and we have our last chances here for both Pittas, Red-collared Woodpecker and White-winged Magpie as well as a supporting cast which includes Malayan Night-Heron, Pied Falconet, Eared Pitta, Silver-breasted Broadbill, White-tailed Flycatcher, Fujian Niltava and the annamensis form of Limestone Wren-Babbler. Day#4 looking for White-winged Magpie, Rachet-tailed Treepie in the morning. In the afternoon, we will drive to Tam Dao National Park for 2 nights. Day#5 and #6 Birding in Tam Dao, Our targets in Tam Dao are Blue-naped Pitta, Short-tailed Parrotbill and Grey Laughingthrus, Streak-breasted Scimitar Babbler but also many other sought-after species will be the best way to finalise our trip such Ashy Bulbul, Black-throated Laughingthrus, Chestnut Bulbul, Fujian Niltava, White-gorgeted Flycatcher, Coral-billed Scimitar Babbler, Spot-necked Babbler, Chestnut-collared Yuhina (split from Striated), Greater Rufous-headed and Short-tailed Parrotbills, and Collared Treepie Day#7 Seeking for Fork-tailed Sunbird, Red-billed Magpie, Grey Treepie in the morning then transfering to airport or Ha Noi to end of the trip

Duration: 8 hours. Escape from bustling Hanoi to the peaceful Van Long natural reserve in Ninh Binh, take a rowing boat to visit this stunning wetland, also a nature reserve of the area

Leave Hanoi for our day trip to Van Long, we arrive at the Nature Reserve of Van Long after two hours drive (110km), we get on a bamboo rowboat as soon as we arrive for a boat trip rowing along this beautiful wetland of Van Long , enjoying spectacular scenery surrounded by rice paddies, lotus pond and towering limestone mountain peaks.

After lunch served at a local riverside restaurant we make a short transfer down a peaceful countryside road to Hoa Lu , Vietnam’s ancient capital eleven centuries ago. Here, spend one hour visiting the Dinh and Le temples of the Ancient Capital Hoa Lu which are dedicated to King Dinh and King Le, the founders of the ancient capital during the 10th century.

Then return to Hanoi late in the afternoon. Finish at your hotel.

**Alternatively, you might opt for a biking trip around the countryside of Van Long natural reserve instead of Dinh & Le King temple. Or opt for trip to Hang Mua (Mua grotto) instead.
