Kate Middleton and Prince William in America! See Highlights from Their Past Visits

The Prince and Princess of Wales are bringing Prince William's Earthshot Prize awards to Boston on Dec. 2 — revisit their previous trips to New York City and Los Angeles!

Prince William and Kate Middleton are bringing the Earthshot Prize to Boston in December 2022, which will be their third trip to America as a couple.

Just a few months after their royal wedding, Kate and Prince William traveled to California after a tour of Canada. They arrived at LAX Airport on July 8, 2011.

The first stop was Variety 's Venture Capital and New Media Summit at The Beverly Hills Hilton hotel. The conference explored how U.K. innovation was on course to rival that of Silicon Valley.

Kate and Prince William also attended a private reception at the British Consul-General's residence as part of their first day in California.

On July 9, the couple stepped out at the Santa Barbara Polo Club, where Prince William took part in a charity match.

Prince William 's team emerged victorious, and Kate proudly posed with the winners and their trophy.

From the polo field to the red carpet! That evening, the royal couple got all dressed up for a BAFTA Reception at the Belasco Theatre.

Kate and Prince William showed off their creative side during a July 10 visit to an inner city arts project for youth in Los Angeles.

No trip to California is complete without a few celebrity encounters, right? Kate met Reese Witherspoon during a reception to mark the launch of Tusk Trust's U.S. Patron's Circle.

The couple ended their California visit by helping to prepare care packages for military children at the the Mission Serve: Hiring Our Heroes event.

Kate and Prince William returned to the U.S. in December 2014, this time for a winter visit to New York City. Kate teamed up with former Mayor Bill de Blasio's wife Chirlane McCray for a visit to the Northside Center for Child Development.

At a conservation reception at British Consul General's Residence, Kate and Prince William met Hillary Clinton as well as her daughter, Chelsea Clinton.

On Dec. 8, the couple enjoyed popcorn at a Brooklyn Nets game, where they had courtside seats.

Ahead of the game, the couple met with LeBron James — and were even gifted with a basketball jersey for their son, Prince George !

Perhaps the highlight of the evening was when Kate and Prince William met JAY-Z and Beyoncé during the game.

On Dec. 9, Prince William and Kate paid a visit to the National September 11 Memorial.

The couple also toured the September 11 Museum, remembering the lives lost during the terrorist attack.

At The Door, which provides services to disadvantaged young people, they watched a performance and joined in on an art class.

Kate and Prince William ended their New York City trip in style, with a dinner at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The event was the 600th Anniversary Gala Benefit for the couple's alma mater, the University of St. Andrew's in Scotland.

George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic Announce 2022 U.S. Tour

George Clinton & Parliament -Funkadelic have announced a stretch of late spring and summer tour dates in the United States. Dopapod, Pimps of Joytime, the Floozies, and the Motet are among those joining the band at different stops on the tour, which begins in mid-June and extends through August. See the full schedule below.

Clinton had previously announced that he was retiring from touring, claiming in 2018 that he’d go on a final trek the following year. More recently, Clinton and the band earned the honor of having a street named for them in Plainfield, New Jersey , where Clinton established the doo-wop group that eventually became Parliament-Funkadelic.

Wiz Khalifa is set to appear as Clinton in Spinning Gold , a forthcoming biopic about Casablanca Records head Neil Bogart. The label issued several of Parliament-Funkadelic’s records in the 1970s, including 1974’s Up for the Down Stroke and 1975’s Mothership Connection .

George Clinton Revives Parliament-Funkadelic Tour with New 2022 U.S. Tour Dates

In 2018, legendary artist George Clinton announced his retirement from touring. Now, though, that hiatus seems to be over.

The people have spoken and Clinton is back, resuming his One Nation Under a Groove Tour with a number of Spring and Summer dates set for the U.S. this year (see the full list of dates below).

Clinton, who has been making music and touring for 50 years, has apparently rested up during the pandemic and is set to play for the people again. It’s time.

His tour will begin in New York City on June 15 and will conclude after 17 dates in Napa, California on August 21. Openers include Dopapod, Pimps of Joytime, The Motet, Fishbone, Fantastic Negrito, and more.

Pre-sale for the tour begins on Wednesday, with tickets available for the public on Friday at noon local time. Get them at Ticketmaster .

George Clinton & Parliament-Funkadelic at SummerStage Central Park / June 15, 2022

George Clinton announced in 2018 that his Parliament-Funkadelic would launch a farewell tour. Since then, the group has performed in New York City three times, the most recent being at SummerStage Central Park on June 15 as part of the Blue Note Jazz Festival. The Central Park concert was the first stop on Clinton’s 2022 One Nation Under A Groove tour, a package that includes which included brief supporting performances by Blue Eye Extinction, the Motet (featuring former members of Turkuaz), Dopapod, Pimps of Joytime, and DJ Funk Flex. Clinton is 81 years old and no one knows how many more times he will perform before he finally retires. After all, as stated in the lyrics to “Give Up the Funk (Tear the Roof Off the Sucker)” in 1976, “Ow, we need the funk, we gotta have that funk.”

Starting in music in mid-1950s New Jersey with a doo-wop group, George Clinton saw his first taste of national success when the Parliaments hit in 1967 with “(I Wanna) Testify.” By the 1970s, he led two groups, Parliament and Funkadelic, which consisted of essentially the same musicians, and capitalized on bringing rocking lead guitar leads into urban dance grooves. Parliament-Funkadelic was at its peak of freakdom in the mid-1970s. 

Standing alone, “Give Up the Funk” was one of a rapid series of dance floor funk tunes, but in the context of the album  Mothership Connection , it was the climax of a story line in which aliens from a planet that is short on funk offer to buy Earth’s funk but fail and so in desperation threaten to tear the roof off any place where humans were getting down. The tour for that album included a mothership landing on arena and stadium stages, and the musicians jamming endless solos in wardrobe ranging from zoot suits to diapers. Clinton scrapped the original mothership in the early 1980s; a replica is on display at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C..

Clinton’s performance at SummerStage Central Park recreated the ageless spirit of Parliament-Funkadelic that was born in the psychedelic sixties. Countless musicians, vocalists, and animators drifted on and off the stage for a non-stop jam that flowed in and out of “Flashlight,” “Atomic Dog.” “One Nation Under A Groove,” and numerous other P-Funk staples spaced out by extended instrumental breaks. The musicians reportedly consisted of some old-time funketeers, including keyboardist Danny Bedrosian, saxophonists Greg Thomas and Greg Boyer, and guitarist Michael Hampton, who was known as Kidd Funkadelic when he joined the band at 17 in 1975. Clinton’s granddaughter, vocalist Tonysha Nelson, and grandson, guitarist Traf Lewis, represented the youngest generation of funketeers.

The musicians followed no prepared setlist; instead they followed prompts by Clinton, who spent much of the show seated on a chair. Clinton periodically stood to sing snippets of songs or animate the audience participation. Acting as if Dr. Funkenstein was the ringleader at a circus, Clinton was the master of ceremonies while the cast did the heavy lifting. The result seemed like organized chaos that was freewheeling yet synchronous.
