Meeting Point

If you want to make first paddling experiences in a relaxed and pleasant environment, then this is the place to be. We have 2 hours to deal with a bit of theory and a lot of practice. You will sit alone in a kayak and make your first paddle strokes. Since your guide will always be with you during the 2 hours, it will not be hard for you to go straight ahead.

You should bring

• Swimwear and shoes that may be wet (e.g. old sneakers or neoprene shoes, please do not wear sandals)
• If necessary, a eyewear strap
• Depending on the temperature, you should also bring fast drying outerwear (e.g. fleece)
• Rain jacket if necessary, as the course also takes place in rainy weather

Diese Tour wird vom Kanuverleih „Wolfang Petry“ veranstaltet. Im Folgenden stellen wir dir diese Tour einmal etwas näher vor. Vom Hembach aus machst du dich auf die ungefähr 13 Kilometer lange Tour nach Zerkall.

Du wirst unterwegs eine wunderbare Vielfalt an Natur erleben und kannst deine Seele richtig baumeln lassen.

Unterwegs gibt es Verschiedene Rastpunkte, an denen du deine Batterie wieder aufladen kannst. Blens, Abenden und der Nationalpark-Infopunkt eignen sich hervorragend hierfür.

Nach den genannten Rastplätzen warten noch ein paar Hindernisse auf dich: kleinere Stromschnellen, Baumstümpfe, die im Wasser umhertreiben und auch andere Besucher des Flusses verlangen deine uneingeschränkte Aufmerksamkeit.

Das klingt jetzt alles etwas dramatisch, ist aber in der Realität trotz allem halb so wild.

Aus Gründen des Naturschutzes darf diese Route nur vom 15 Julie bis zum 28 Februar befahren werden. Dieser Umstand sollte auf keinen Fall vergessen werden.

Kanu Petry ist der Ansprechpartner, wenn es um Kanufahren in der Eifel geht. Der 1990 gegründete Anbieter hat sich in den vergangenen drei Jahrzehnten zu einem etablierten Player in diesem Bereich entwickelt.

Wenn du als Einzelperson am Programm Interesse hast, kannst du auch eine Tour im Einerkajak buchen. Die Gruppe muss hierfür aus mindestens 9 Einzelpersonen bestehen, dass die Veranstaltung zu Stande kommt, ansonsten wird gebeten, dass man sich einer kleineren Doppelkajakgruppe anschließt.

Von Anfang April, bis zum Oktober kannst du das Staubecken Heimbach mit deinem Kanu betreten. Da es sich beim Heimbacher Staubecken um ein stehendes Gewässer handelt, ist es gerade für Anfänger und Kinder ein äußert lohnenswertes Ziel.

Gerade bei Schulklassen ist dieses Tourangebot sehr beliebt. Bei Bedarf lässt sich das Angebot zusätzlich noch um eine Wanderung mit anschließendem Grillabend erweitern. Die Tour dauert durchschnittlich rund zwei Stunden.

Kanuverleih

Bei Kanu Petry kannst du dir auch das Equipment für die Kanufahrten ausleihen. Du hast die Wahl zwischen Einer- und Zweierkajaks. Diese kannst du dann für einen oder auch zwei Tage ausweichen.

Zubehör, wie z.B. Paddel, Helme und Neoprenanzüge sind ebenfalls auf Lager und können ganz nach Bedarf dazugebucht werden.

Laut der Internetseite des Händlers verfügt er auch über eine treue Kundschaft aus dem Gebiet der Eifel. Das Geschäft gibt es seit über 35 Jahren und die Fahrt nach Erpel/Rhein lohnt sich definitiv.

8 Wonderful places to visit in and around the Eifel region

The Eifel region  is quite big and diverse. The region features so many beautiful places which are worth a visit: from nature reserves to idyllic towns, there’s so much to find! In this article I’ll tell you more about 8 places (must do’s!) to visit when travelling to the Eifel region.

1. Eifel National Park

You cannot miss the Eifel National Park when travelling to the Eifel region, this absolutely is a mus visit! The national park was founded in 2004 and has a size of 110 square kilometers. The park has a rich amount of flora & fauna and a big range of hiking possibilities. At the Vogelsang IP you can visit the multi-layered, international culture and education centre.

2. Eltz Castle

Close to the town of Cochem, you can find the magnificent Eltz Castle. It’s such an impressive building surrounded by beautiful nature. From the parking place, it’s only around a 15-minute walk to the castle. Eltz Castle has a location where you can walk around nicely, but the castle itself definitely is the highlight!

You can also visit the interior of the castle (in Summer time). it’s opened daily from 09:30 AM to 05:30 PM. If you would like to have a guided tour through the castle, you need to pay an entrance fee: a ticket costs EUR 11,- per person. Best is to look on  the official website  for the actual times and costs.

3. Monschau – town in Eifel region

Monschau is a small and idyllic town, located in the region of North Rhine-Westphalia and nearby the Belgian border. The town is one of the must visits when traveling to the Eifel, as it offers narrow alleys, beautiful half-timbered houses and is surrounded by green hills. You can walk around the hills and have some amazing views over the town center, like in the photo above.

4. Dreimühlen Wasserfall

The Dreimühlen Wasserfall is located at a driving distance of approximately 50 minutes from Hellenthal (near the Eifel National Park). Even on a rainy day (as we had during our trip), there were people walking around this nature reserve called  Ahbachtal . It’s a beautiful environment where you can have a lovely walk. It’s nice to see the magnificent Dreimühlen Wasserfall from up close.

Cologne, also named Köln in German, is a beautiful city located in the state North Rhine-Westphalia and just outside the Eifel region. The city is nice to visit in all seasons of the year. In Summer time, you can do a brewery tour with three “Kölsch” tastings , enjoy a walk along the Rhine river or you can wander around the city and take a drink or bite at one of the terraces. In Winter time, you can have an amazing time at the Christmas markets or you can pay a visit to the Chocolate Museum . There is so many to see and do in Cologne, you can easily spend a few days in and around the city .

6. The Lakes of Daun (Dauner Maare)

Although we had the misfortune that is was raining heavily during our visit to the Lakes of Daun, I can definitely recommend a visit! These lakes are located in a stunning environment with many hiking possibilities in the nature reserves. Furthermore, there are great leisure opportunities. In some spots, you can swim in the lake, but there are also water sports possibilities, boat rental and fishing areas.

7. Monreal – town in Eifel region

The town of Monreal might be the little brother/sister of Monschau, as the town also has narrow alleys and beautiful half-timbered houses, but isn’t that touristy compared to Monschau. Monreal is located along the Elzbach River and in a narrow valley. The town also features castle ruins (Löwenburg and Philippsburg) which are located on top of the hill, just outside the town center. It’s a very idyllic small town.

8. The Oleftalsperre

The Oleftalsperre is a weir which was built between 1954 and 1959. The drainage-basin has a capacity of 20 million cubic meters of water and, for a part, it takes care of the drinking water in the region.

This beautiful place is located near the town of Hellenthal. You can make some amazing hikes in this area . During our trip in the Eifel region, we hiked a route which took us to the Oleftalsperre as well.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla — Update 12/24: The family has identified the missing kayaker Eiffel Gilyana. He is a fitness and wellness director at the Jewish Community Alliance.

Gilyana is also a member of Task Force Hydro 1 .

JCA has released a statement regarding Gilyana:

Dear JCA Community, It is with deep regret and immense sadness that we share an update on the welfare of our JCA Fitness and Wellness Director Eiffel Gilyana. On Saturday morning (Dec 23), Eiffel went paddling in his outrigger canoe off the coast of Vilano Beach with a group of paddlers from Task Force Hydro1. The team lost sight of Eiffel and later found his canoe damaged, but not Eiffel. The U.S. Coast Guard and other emergency officials searched for Eiffel Saturday and Sunday morning to no avail. They will continue to search for him until sunset tonight. We are in direct contact with the U.S. Coast Guard and continue to pray for answers as to Eiffel's whereabouts. During this truly difficult time, we hold Eiffel’s family, friends, Task Force Hydro1 teammates, clients and our JCA community close in prayer. —   Adam Chaskin CEO

The search continues for Gilyana at first light.

The United States Coast Guard has their Southeast crews out searching for a 46-year-old man last seen on a kayak in the area of the St. Augustine Inlet near the North Jetties ocean side, Saturday.

St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Fish and Wildlife Commission and St. Johns County Fire Rescue are also searching the Vilano area.

Around 10 a.m., reports state that he was with group of kayakers when then they noticed he wasn’t with them.

They began calling out for him for roughly the next hour but were unable to find him. The man was last seen wearing black pants with no life jacket or shirt.

The man’s kayak was found flipped over and washed up on shore.

Currently, the Coast Guard has 45-foot response boat with a crew searching, along with a helicopter from Clearwater searching by air.

Crystal Water Kayaks – Transparent kayak tours on La Digue (Seychelles)

We use Instagram not only to post pictures of our travels ourselves, but also to be inspired – for new destinations, photo motifs or even activities. Through various posts from the island of La Digue we saw the wonderful pictures of Crystal Water Kayaks and it was quickly clear to us: we want to experience this 🙂

Crystal Water Kayaks on La Digue

The idea is as simple as it is ingenious. The usual kayaks – which one usually knows – are not colored here, but transparent. So you can be active in normal sport and experience the underwater world perfectly with a view down through the kayak floor. In addition, a transparent kayak looks great and offers a unique photo motif. A tour with Crystal Water Kayaks can be booked via the platform TourBookers.com . The German agency offers over 750 tours, activities and experiences in different countries on its online platform. The tours are offered and arranged directly online by a number of independent local tour operators.

The location of L’Union Estate Park

The Crystal Water Kayaks shop, which is also the starting point for the tours, is located on the west coast of La Digue in L’Union Estate Park and just a few metres from the Anse Source d’Argent. So you have to pay for admission to L’Union Estate Park as normal to get to the Crystal Water Kayaks shop.

Opening Hours & Prices

The opening and touring times of Crystal Water Kayaks are very dependent on the tide times, which are checked daily. As a rule, the tours take place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Therefore, it is best to register spontaneously for a tour directly in the shop, if there are still places available and you are on site at Anse Source d’Argent anyway. Alternatively, you book the tour a few days in advance and then get the exact time for the start of the tour via WhatsApp the day before – this of course requires some flexibility in the daily planning, as you only know the exact tide times about 1 to 2 days in advance.

The most booked tour is the “Robinson Crusoe Tour” , which is scheduled for 3 hours and costs 35 EUR on site. We think that this is a very fair price-performance ratio.

We had also decided for the “Robinson Crusoe Tour” and were already full of anticipation, which would await us on this tour. At 1.30 p.m. we met in front of the Crystal Water Kayaks shop. In total, we were a group of 13 people accompanied by Anis, the owner of Crystal Water Kayaks.

From the shop it is only a few meters to the water, where our transparent kayaks have already been waiting for us. After two people had always sat down in a kayak, it was already possible to start. Our tour started with a photo at a beautiful spot – with the typical granite rocks and palm trees of the Anse Source d’Argent in the background. Unfortunately, the water was so close to the shore very brownish cloudy, because nearby a river flows into the sea and depending on the wind direction the water of the river is driven towards the Anse Source d’Argent. But if you go a little further out to the sea and away from the beach, the water suddenly becomes crystal clear and shimmers turquoise 🙂

On the reef we had beautiful views of the beach and the dreamlike scenery. Here we were shown some different coral formations (e.g. fire corals) and we could even see large stingrays that swam along our glass kayaks. After some time we paddled past all sections of the Anse Source d’Argent and had many opportunities to take beautiful panoramic photos from the water.

Our next stop was the Anse Pierrot , where the film Robinson Crusoe was shot in 1980. We spent about an hour on the almost deserted beach and were able to swim, take photos, hike to a viewpoint or explore a cave that was also used as a backdrop for the film Robinson Crusoe.

Shortly before the departure, our whole group gathered again, because there were some “survival tricks” from Anis. He showed us, for example, how to open a coconut with your own strength and without outside help.

On the way back to the shop there was a VIP service of the extra class, because we did not have to paddle back, but were towed by our escort boat. This was super comfortable, because so we could let the dreamlike beach scenery pass by us and take some photos.

The next day we borrowed another kayak for an hour in the crystal water kayaks shop to take some nice photos – also with our drone. This is often not so easy in the large group, so it is great that you can rent the kayaks even without a tour.
