LAURA PAUSINI starts her World Tour from Rimini (Info, Schedule and Tickets)

December 9, 2023

LAURA PAUSINI al via da Rimini il suo World Tour [Info, Scaletta e Biglietti]

Laura Pausini returns live five years after her last world tour, with the premiere, yesterday evening 8 December from the Rimini Stadium, of her “LAURA PAUSINI WORLD TOUR 2023/2024”.

This is the moment I’ve been waiting for 5 years. – comments Laura Pausini – I prepared and studied a lot. Piece by piece I had a clear picture of how I wanted to design my return. This is my thirtieth anniversary year and it is the year in which I return with new music, contained in my album “Anime Parallele” ( READ THE REVIEW ), it’s the year I put myself to the test again. I did it, in all the ways I was able to challenge myself, musically, mentally, emotionally, physically even. I started from the crazy idea of a marathon in a 24-hour flight, three performances in three cities around the world, in three iconic theatres, like the one where I won the Sanremo Festival in February 1993. Almost a provocation, it seemed impossible, but I managed it. I widened the circle by thinking about a preview of the tour in the historic squares of Venice and Seville, cities where I had never played before. And now finally the whole design takes shape in the sports halls, and this show which had already taken root in the theatres, has grown to its final development which I will finally present to the world. None of this would have been possible without a figure like that of Luca Tommassini at my side, co-director who with me created a show in 3 acts, built starting from the music of my 30 years, and following a conceptual line that plays with the present, future and past. All the artists I involved (Luca Tommassini, Fabio Novembre, Paolo Carta, Francesco De Cave and Susanna Ausoni) helped me in this ambitious and unique project, which for me as always had the objective of uniting all possible forces to create something that would give back to my audience all the support that made me who I am. I feel like I belong to my audience, in Italy as in the other countries that have welcomed me since 1993 and this year more than ever the tour that begins is made to celebrate together and to thank them, in the way I have loved doing it for 30 years , singing.”

THE ARTISTIC DIRECTION

The partnership of Laura and Luca Tommassini in the artistic direction continues, born already in Laura’s last tour in Italian stadiums, and consolidated during the World Tour Preview in Venice in Piazza San Marco and Seville in Plaza de España, to bring the show to an extraordinarily competitive level on the international scene.

A tour that also winks at the most recent techniques in the world of artificial intelligence, with 3D elements and ad hoc graphics that allow an interpretation of Laura as a heroine running inside a structure, the official logo of the thirty-year anniversary , which gradually comes to life by making up many small frames.

This is a show sewn by hand, centimeter by centimeter: from the scenography to the costumes, from the graphics to the choreography. It is a staged story that tells the story of the woman, the artist with her 30 years of success and above all celebrates the Artist’s desire and dream of a future. It is definitely a contemporary show where every graphic and every video has been specially shot and adapted to every type of audience. It is a great challenge for both Laura and me: in every country we arrive in, we have some parts translated so that every person in every part of the world can understand what the message is that Laura wants to convey, either with words or with a video. Then there is an incredible dance troupe and choreographies designed specifically for each song and there are medleys that will make the audience dance like never before.”

Alongside Laura on stage, a band of 7 musicians and 4 choristers, with the musical direction of Paolo Carta, who covers this role for the seventh time in a world tour of the Artist.

As for the Preview World Tour, this time too the stage bears the prestigious signature of Fabio Novembre and his Studio. The styling was curated by Susanna Ausoni who, together with the Artist, chose to involve Valentino, Pucci, Swarovski, Alessandro Vigilante and Amen. The direction was to work on color and brightness which are the underlying theme of the show. Francesco De Cave lights the stage, developed on two levels, and the arrow-shaped catwalk with rhythm and colors that well describe the journey that each block of the show offers to the public.

The lighting project for the stage that will accompany Laura on this new tour is designed trying to make the most of the geometries that the scenography creates. The research into new lighting projectors, used for the first time on this tour, have given and will give a great contribution to the creation of the individual scenes. The light designs are varied, from colors to strobe positions. There will be an effect for each song that will give life to this great show that will go around the world.”

To emphasize the three blocks of the show also the creativity of Amina Lombroni who took care of the image of the bands, choirs and dancers, the same care also used for the contents that follow one another on the screens: graphic features created by Eddy Angelelli and his team they color the hourglass that dominates the main stage.

It was a very challenging but extremely rewarding experience to be able to participate in the creation of these contributions alongside Luca and Laura. It all started with a series of shots that immerse Laura in a series of very surreal virtual environments, retracing her songs and trying to tell her life and her music.”

Block I: lights, special effects and an iconic scenography catapult us from the first notes into another dimension, where the color pink in all its shades dominates. The same pink that finds its maximum expression in the sequined coat enriched by hundreds of hand-embroidered crystal chandeliers that cascade down by Alessandro Vigilante.

We start with THE FIRST STEP ON THE MOON: the atmosphere immediately becomes enveloping and romantic when, in a world enclosed by a giant tulle cylinder illuminated by projectors and lasers, DURARE begins: the Artist here literally flies into a starry night thanks to the ribbon lift present on stage. We continue with A GOOD START and the first of the four medleys, the rock one, composed of: EVERY TIME (written by Tommaso Paradiso) and three hits from the repertoire, FRASI A MALTÀ, I CANTO and UN EMERGENZA D’AMORE. A medley of a more personal nature follows, in which Laura, with a piano/vocal performance, opens the doors of her most intimate sphere and gives the public CELESTE (written before the birth of her daughter Paola and dedicated to herself and to women who desire a son), IL OUR DAILY LOVE and DAVANTI A NOI, a song written as a promise for his marriage. Following, STAY LISTENING, PARALLEL ANIME (song that contains the idea behind the concept album of the same name) and the historic TRA TE E IL MARE and AS IF IT HAD NEVER BEEN LOVE. The first block ends with PRIMAVERA IN ANTICIPO, a hit that has always been loved by the public, which involves all the artists present on stage together with the dancers in a riot of colours, also made possible by clothes designed and tailor-made just for this tour.

Block II: Laura, in a dress by Amen, embellished with silver-coloured fringes, returns to the scene sitting on the iconic NEMO armchair and it is the turn of SCATOLA (soundtrack of the Amazon Original film “Laura Pausini – Pleasure to meet you”) followed by AND I WILL RETURN TO YOU. Then it’s the turn of the 2000 Medley with LIMPIDO, SURRENDER, CON LA MUSICA ALLA RADIO and then the Romantic Medley which opens with a first surprise song, different for each date of the tour, followed by NON È DETTO, LATO DESTRO DEL CUORE, I NEVER STOPPED and IN THE ABSENCE OF YOU, to the tune of which a solo dancer performs an unreleased Ravel Bolero. Then it’s the turn of WELCOME, SIMILI (dedicated to the beauty of diversity and against gender divisions) and LE COSE CHE VIVI. After some food for thought, dedicated to the battle against violence against women, an issue for which Laura has been fighting for years, felt today like never before, it is the turn of IO SÌ (SEEN), soundtrack of the film “Life ahead ” and with which Laura won a Golden Globe and received an Oscar nomination. Here the stage is tinged with red, as is the custom made dress created for Laura by Valentino, with a touching choreography that ends symbolically with the universal gesture to ask for help against violence against women. Followed by VIVIMI and SORELLA TERRA (presented for the first time in the 2009 World Tour when, in unsuspecting times, Laura tried to draw attention to climate change). The second block comes to an end on the notes of ZERO, the last single taken from ANIME PARALLELE, enriched by geysers and special effects. An explosion of colors also on the dress worn by the artist and signed by Pucci.

Block III: characterized by black and white colors, also present in the Valentino outfit, colors that recall the pedestrian crossings, the main theme of the new album and key visual of the tour, begins with INSTEME NO and continues with two main columns, INCELLABILE, STRANI AMORI, to then end with the song that started it all: LA SOLITUDE which Laura concludes by exiting the lift while watching a celebratory video on the screen with the highlights of her thirty-year career and a tribute from the excellent artists with whom she has collaborated over the years .

THE FIRST STEP ON THE MOON is the song chosen by Laura for the encore, which sees her return as per tradition in a bathrobe embellished with Swarovski fringes, preceded by a message on the screens that already arises from the Live Preview in the Squares, returns as a description of the stories from the album ANIME PARALLELE and evolves in this World Tour: “I HAVE PASSED TO BE PRESENT IN YOUR FUTURE”.

Closing the show was the inevitable historic mantra, “Make love tonight”, in a frame of lasers and confetti.

The Hazte Sentir World Tour concert in Madrid was one of the best shows I have attended in my whole life.

Laura Pausini's voice and charisma are always splendid and she has also been able to put up a show full of visual effects, color, talented musicians and the best songs of her 25 years of career.

I would recommend anyone to see at least one of Laura Pausini's shows. This is my fourth time!!!

Laura Pausini Announces New Dates for Her World Tour 2023/2024

La talentuosa Laura Pausini

After having sold out in the most important arenas in Europe and the sold out in Chile, at the debut of an American leg that promises to be just as triumphant, Laura Pausini reveals today the new dates that will take her WORLD TOUR 2023/2024 until the end of next winter.

Net of an Italian leg of 170,000 spectators and a string of sold out throughout Europe, already last February 14th the surprise announcement of new dates scheduled for next winter had arrived: "My Valentine's gift for you is that the tour continues this winter 2024. I will return to Europe to be with you again", she had anticipated on her social channels.

And Laura keeps her promise by confirming today, Tuesday February 27 , a new leg of her tour, starting with a prestigious debut at the O2 Shepherd's Bush in London. And following are the cities that will host the most awarded Italian artist in the world in the months of November and December: Eboli, Bari, Rome, Livorno, Pesaro, Milan, Turin, Marseille, Malaga, Pamplona, Geneva, Basel, Monaco, Sofia, Belgrade, Ljubljana and Messina.

"I don't stop because getting on stage and giving all of myself to the audience is what I have been for over 30 years - declares Laura - the hug I am receiving in every city that has given me affection is what I carry with me step by step, and I can't explain how much it makes me feel loved. I promised to continue singing to give back all that the audience gives me, and because nowhere in the world does what happens on stage happen, from when the countdown of the beginning to when I go down the last step after the finale. I never stop getting excited because the years go by, but love does not. That's why I chose Valentine's Day to give myself and my fans another chapter of this incredible tour that I will remember forever".

What Laura Pausini has managed to build for her tenth world tour is an extraordinary show, with a large production of international breath, just landed in Latin America , starting from Chile, and that will continue in Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Costa Rica and Mexico, and then conquer the United States.

Two and a half hours of music, a succession of iconic songs from her career, with the addition of some tracks from the latest album ANIME PARALLELE / ALMAS PARALELAS, published last October, which will stop in a high-sounding parade of cities that starts from Houston, and goes from Los Angeles to Orlando, from Miami to Chicago, to arrive at the historic stage at The Theater Madison Square Garden in New York , next April 6th.

The artist will perform in a memorable show in 5 languages, in the same city that hosted the beginning of her anniversary celebrations on February 27, 2023, and that this year will inaugurate her thirty-year career also in the Latin world, which crowned her last October Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year 2023 .

"It's wonderful and incredible how Laura's live path grows year after year - comments Ferdinando Salzano - This latest tour has recorded a 25% increase compared to past world tours, which had already reached very large numbers. It's a very important fact for our music, our country, women musicians. Laura Pausini

Singer Laura Pausini is celebrating three decades as Italy’s top female artist, announcing on Feb. 14 that she will embark on a three-stop concert tour between the U.S. and Europe to take place within 24 hours. Pausini will perform ten songs in each city, representing each decade of her career.

Pausini’s run will begin at 6 p.m. in New York City’s Apollo Theater on Feb. 26, where she will sing for one hour before hopping on a plane bound for Madrid to perform at the Music Station by 3 p.m. CET on Feb. 27. Her third and final stop will be in Milan’s Teatro Carcano, where she plans to begin performing at 11 p.m. CET.

“I wanted to celebrate on the exact date of my [career] anniversary which is Feb. 27,” Pausini adds. “And with this gesture, I want people to realize that I don’t want to celebrate by only thinking of the past, but also, the fact that a new chapter of my life is beginning… a new path.”

The announcement of her three-city tour is accompanied by a tease of new music and of future performances, including first-time concerts in Venice and Sevilla during the summer.

“I’ll be performing in two important venues in Spain and Italy, in two cities where I, surprisingly enough, have never performed in my 30 years,” she says.

“I don’t want to stop and only focus on my accomplishments and the things that I am sure of, because they have already happened, whether it be the awards I’ve won or the career I’ve built,” she says. “I want to still think that there are things I haven’t yet experienced. I still want to feel nervous and excited about new things that I do, because the things I have done up until now are numerous, and I know them too well to be spontaneous about them anymore.”

Though she looks toward the future, Pausini reveals she often reflects and marvels at her luck. “I am a person who was born in a small Italian town and who happened to have luck on her side as well as various coincidences that led me towards [becoming] a citizen of the world. I was able to really get to know myself through my travels and the trips I have been on.”

That’s especially true of her success in Latin America after Warner Music Spain executives encouraged her to release the Spanish version of “La Solitudine,” which has already been widely recognized in European countries such as the U.K., France and the Netherlands.

“La Solitudine,” released in 1994, tells the story of her first breakup with a man named Marco, which Pausini also says is part of her fortunate series of events. As Pausini explains: “Some musicians from the comune of Castrocaro, Italy showed me a song that was called ‘Anna,’ and they said they wanted me to listen to it, and I did. When I heard it, I thought that if I could just replace the name Anna with Marco, the lyrics of the song actually told the story of my life.”

Today, Pausini is the fourth best-selling female artist in Latin America and the best-selling female non-Spanish-speaking Latin music artist.

“My world revolutionized completely after the Spanish-language album, because not only was I selling albums, but when I began to work in and live in Spain and then Latin America, my mind opened up completely more than ever before,” she adds. “While in Europe, I felt loved but still was made to feel like an ex-pat in all the countries. But in Latin America, I was immediately embraced as one of them and they gave me a sense of belonging right away. I wasn’t just Italian; I was Spanish, Colombian, Venezuelan, and Mexican… and I quickly fell in love with [Latinos] deeply.”

Luis Fonsi & Laura Pausini

1 SONG • 3 MINUTES • APR 25 2024

  • TRACKS TRACKS
  • DETAILS DETAILS

Luis Fonsi is a multi-platinum-selling recording artist, actor, and television host. Initially molded as a singer of romantic ballads with dramatic flair over sweeping string arrangements, he has enjoyed great success in that role, but it hardly encompasses his vast range of talents. Since releasing 1998's Comenzaré, the majority of his albums and singles have charted; these include 2006's breakthrough Paso a Paso and 2009's Palabras del Silencio, which both went to number one and spent multiple weeks on the charts. In January 2017, "Despacito" featuring Daddy Yankee was released; its video attained five billion views. 2019's Vida also landed inside the Top Five globally. In 2020, Fonsi continued releasing hit singles including "Imposible" with Ozuna, and joined Wisin, Alejandra Guzmán, and Carlos Vives as coaches on the first Spanish season of La Voz on Telemundo. In 2021, he teamed with singer Helene Fischer on the smash "Vamos a Marte." In February 2022, Fonsi and Manuel Turizo issued the party anthem "Vacaciones," heralding his 11th Top Ten Latin Pop Album, 2023's Ley de Gravedad. He kicked off 2024 with the single "Santiago."

Born in Puerto Rico and raised in Orlando, Florida, Fonsi dove into show business at a young age, singing in a school vocal group called the Big Guys that also included future *NSYNC star Joey Fatone. Following high school, Fonsi studied singing at Florida State University and scored a contract offer from Universal Latino. He debuted on Universal in 1998 with Comenzare, which did well, peaking at number 27 on Billboard's Top Latin Albums chart and spawning four hit singles: "Si Tu Quisieras," "Perdóname," "Dime Como," and "Me Iré." His follow-up album, Eterno, released in 2000, did even better, peaking at number six on the Top Latin Albums chart and spawning another four hit singles, among them the chart-topping "Imaginame Sin Ti." And so it went for the next few years, with more releases and more commercial success. Amor Secreto topped the Latin album chart in 2002 and Abrazar la Vida came close in 2003, both of them carried by numerous hits. The only mishap for Fonsi during this remarkable run was an English-language crossover attempt, Fight the Feeling, that came and went very quickly in 2002, a clear miscalculation.

When the time came for Fonsi to record his sixth LP, to be released in 2005, he went out on a limb, recruiting producer Sebastian Krys, who had previously worked with the likes of Carlos Vives, Obie Bermúdez, and JD Natasha. The resulting album, Paso a Paso, was still a Latin pop excursion through and through, but in general it featured guitars in the forefront rather than sweeping strings. The record also explored different kinds of rhythms and arrangements, resulting in Fonsi's most distinct and creative album to date. Critics, who hadn't always been kind to Fonsi, were mostly positive and liked what they heard. Moreover, and more importantly, the public loved the lead single "Nada Es Para Siempre," and lined up in droves to buy the album when it was released in late summer. Paso a Paso debuted at number two on the Top Latin Albums chart, setting up yet another great run for Fonsi, who now found himself more aligned with successful yet inventive Latin stars like Juanes than the generic balladeers he had previously kept company with.

Fonsi's 2008 effort Palabras del Silencio was essentially a continuation of all that he had accomplished with Paso a Paso, with the singer co-writing all of the 13 songs. The album earned double-platinum status in the U.S. and Venezuela, along with gold status in Spain, Mexico, Colombia, and Central America. Featuring the hit single "Gritar," the record Tierra Firme followed in 2011. Three years later, Fonsi returned with his eighth album, appropriately titled 8, and followed it with a lengthy tour.

In a stylistic turn, Fonsi collaborated with Puerto Rican rapper/singer Daddy Yankee on the reggaeton-influenced single "Despacito," which topped the charts upon its January 2017 release and remained there for nearly six months. The tune also won Latin Grammys for both Record of the Year and Song of the Year. Its remix (which also featured Justin Bieber) won the award for Best Urban Fusion/Performance. At the Anglo Grammys, it was nominated as Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for the 2018 awards, while the original version earned a nomination for Song of the Year. 2018 also saw the release of a flurry of high-profile singles, including "Echame La Culpa" featuring Demi Lovato, "Calypso" featuring Stefflon Don, and "Imposible" featuring Ozuna. Those tracks were included on Fonsi's tenth studio LP, Vida, which was issued in early 2019. Also featured on the album were the original mix of "Despacito" (as well as the Bieber remix) and another version of "Calypso" with Karol G. Vida cracked the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 and topped the Latin charts. In May 2020, Fonsi released the track "Sway" as part of the NBC songwriting competition show Songland. He also teamed with Paul Oakenfold on the single "The World Can Wait," and an EP of remixes. Two months later, he issued "Perfecta" featuring Farruko. He finished the year by appearing live with Helene Fischer in a medley of "Despacito" and "Echame la Culpa."

Fonsi kicked off 2021 with the collaborative single "Por Isso Que Eu Bebo," leading a vocal quartet that included Zé Neto & Cristiano and Thyy; it charted at streaming.

Fonsi followed with "Vacío" in duet with urbano star Rauw Alejandro. Landing well inside the Latin Top 20, it spent 16 weeks on the charts. After releasing the tropical dance anthem "Bésame" with Myke Towers and the steamy romantica dance single "Dos Veces" with David Bisbal, Fonsi re-teamed with Fischer for the smash "Vamos a Marte"; it placed on no less than half a dozen global charts and went to number two in her home country of Germany. It also inspired an EP of club remixes. In addition, he appeared on Cali y El Dandee's trap ballad "Yo No Te Olvido." He completed the year with the solo "Nuestra Balada."

Fonsi appeared with Lunay, Lenny Tavarez, and Juliette on Alok's charting "Un Ratito" in January 2022. He followed it with another collaboration, this time with Manuel Turizo on the hit spring break party anthem "Vacaciones." In early March, Cali y El Dandee returned the favor and joined Fonsi on his streaming hit "Ley de Gravedad," which also served as the title track to his full-length Ley de Gravedad. Released that March, the album featured many of the previously released singles, including "Vacio" and "Besame," and became his 11th album to hit the Top Ten on Billboard's Latin Pop Albums. The song "Santiago" arrived in January 2024 as the first single off his 12th studio album. ~ Jason Birchmeier & Thom Jurek

A Top Ten recording artist in her native Italy ever since her eponymous 1993 debut, Laura Pausini has sold tens of millions of albums worldwide, charting across Europe and Latin America. Her heartfelt adult contemporary pop and soaring vocals put her in the stylistic company of artists such as Celine Dion and Michael Bolton. Pausini went all the way to number one in Italy for the first time with her fourth studio effort, 1998's La Mia Risposta. After a couple more albums, including an attempt to break into English-speaking markets (2002's From the Inside), she returned to the top of the chart with 2004's Resta in Ascolto. It kicked off a streak of consecutive Italian number ones and lasted through the 2010s, including her 2016 Christmas album, Laura Xmas, which had songs performed in Italian, Spanish, English, and French. After winning a Golden Globe and earning an Academy Award nomination for "Io sì (Seen)" from the film The Life Ahead, Pausini celebrated 30 years in the business with the release of 2023's Anime Parallele.

Laura Pausini was born in Faenza, Ravenna, in 1974. A singer from a young age, she made her live performance debut at 12. Her recording debut followed at the age of 18 with 1993's Laura Pausini. Featuring the single "La Solitudine," which was a number one hit in Italy, the album went to number six, also charting in countries such as France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. A year later -- in a practice that would come to define her career and compound her success -- she released a Spanish version of her debut, including a version of her breakthrough hit, titled accordingly "Lo Soledad." Laura and Le Cose Che Vivi/Las Cosas Que Vives followed in 1995 and 1996, respectively, both of them Italian number two hits. The former release topped the album chart in the Netherlands, and the latter set reached the top spot in Switzerland. Released in late 1998, Mia Risposta/Mi Respuesta became her first Italian number one. Two years later, she issued Tra Te e il Mare/Entre Tu y Mil Mares, which reached the Top Five in Italy, Finland, Spain, and Switzerland.

During these years, Pausini accepted invitations to sing for Pope John Paul II at a special Vatican Christmas mass and at Barbra Streisand's birthday party in 1998, as well as embarking on sold-out world tours. She capped off this run of success with the greatest-hits collection The Best of Laura Pausini/Lo Mejor de Laura Pausini, which was followed by her first English-language album, 2002's From the Inside. While the album didn't chart in English-speaking regions, it was well received by her established fan base. Pausini took some time off following the associated world tour, returning in late 2004 with Resta in Ascolto/Escucha. Thanks in part to the chart-topping title track, it became her second number one album in Italy. Warner Music Latina reissued the record in America in late 2005 and it went on to win the Latin Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Album. The live set, Live in Paris 05, was released to capitalize on her growing momentum.

Following that success, Pausini was given free rein to record an album of covers, 2006's Io Canto/Yo Canto. Consisting primarily of '90s Italian pop/rock songs that had greatly influenced her, it became the highest-selling album of the year in Italy. After collecting another Latin Grammy Award, Pausini became the first female artist to perform at the San Siro Stadium in Milan, with the show being released in November that year under the title San Siro 2007.

In 2008, Pausini released her tenth studio album, Primavera in Anticipo/Primavera Anticipada, which included the hit single "Invece No"/"En Cambio No," as well as a duet with British singer/songwriter James Blunt. The year 2009 saw the singer organize another concert at the San Siro -- this time featuring a host of female artists -- to raise money for those affected by that year's L'Aquila earthquake. The resulting video followed in mid-2010. Pausini continued to tour before going to work on her next album, Inedito/Inédito. Released in 2011, the record was promoted on the Inedito World Tour, which included a date at London's Royal Albert Hall.

In late 2012, Pausini recorded a duet with Josh Groban for his album All That Echoes, before reissuing her 1993 single "La Solitudine" to celebrate its 20-year anniversary. It became part of a special 20th anniversary year, with the album 20: The Greatest Hits/20: Grandes Exitos appearing in 2013. A mixture of vintage and new recordings, it included feature appearances by many of Pausini's friends and fellow superstars, including Kylie Minogue on the number one Italian hit "Limpido" and Thalía on the Top Ten "Se Non Te." Also making appearances were Marc Anthony, Lara Fabian, Alejandro Sanz, and Andrea Bocelli. The album sold over a million copies globally and topped the charts in her native Italy as well as in Malta, Mexico, and Switzerland. Her Greatest Hits World Tour took her across Europe, Latin America, Australia, and, for the first time, to Russia.

She returned to recording in late 2014, working in studios across Europe with a several producers and session musicians. The first single, "Lato Destro del Cuore," was released in October 2015, followed by the album Simili in November (issued in both Italian and Castilian editions). She promoted the recording with an unprecedented series of Sunday-evening appearances on Univision's La Banda throughout the end of the year. In the meantime, she also appeared as a coach the Spanish version of TV singing competition The Voice (La Voz). The following year she issued a pair of Christmas collections: Laura Xmas in English and Laura Navidad in Spanish.

In 2018, Pausini delivered her 13th studio album, Fatti Sentire (and its Spanish version). It became her seventh consecutive number one album in her home country. A deluxe reissue titled Fatti Sentire Acora was released at the end of 2018 and featured a duet version of the song "Il Coraggio di Andare" with Italian singer Biagio Antonacci. Also that year, Pausini appeared as a judge on the Spanish version of the X Factor, Factor X.

In 2021, she released the single "Io sì (Seen)" for the soundtrack to the Italian film The Life Ahead. A commercial and critical success, the song was nominated for an Academy Award and also became the first Italian language song to win a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song. The following year, she made her acting debut in Laura Pausini – Piacere di conoscerti, a film based on her own life. After appearing in Turin as one of the presenters at the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest, Pausini became the first Italian to host the Latin Grammy Award ceremony that November. All of this heightened momentum served to accentuate a series of 2023 concerts that celebrated her 30th anniversary as a performer and recording artist. In October Pausini released Anime Parallele, her first new album in five years, followed by a major world tour. ~ Jason Birchmeier & Marcy Donelson

Way back in 2015 — when “Uptown Funk!” was the hottest hit of the year, Sam Smith was named best new artist at the Grammy Awards and Taylor Swift had the year’s top album with the original version of 1989 — the global music industry hit a significant milestone.

Its revenue grew — for the first time in 20 years. That was the beginning of a comeback, and the industry has sustained it since.

UMPG’s Alexandra Lioutikoff Wins First-Ever Billboard International Power Players’…

Trending on billboard.

Among those who have contributed to the music business’ overall growth are Billboard ’s 2024 International Power Players — executives nominated by their firms and peers and chosen by our editors from selected industry sectors. All have primary responsibility for markets outside the United States, which account for nearly 60% of the world’s recorded-music sales.

In fact, although the United States and Canada had a collective global recorded-music revenue increase of 7.4% in 2023, that was the lowest regional growth rate measured last year by IFPI. That figure was surpassed by Europe at 8.9%, Australasia at 10.4%, the Middle East and North Africa at 14.4%, Asia at 14.9%, Latin America at 19.4% and Sub-Saharan Africa at 24.7% (South Africa accounts for 77% of revenue in that region).

Each of those regions is represented among this year’s International Power Players.

In a statement accompanying the global results, IFPI CFO/interim joint head John Nolan said, “This growth results from record companies’ sustained investment in artists and their careers — more than $7.1 billion annually on A&R and marketing alone [as measured in 2022] — and the impact it has on music ecosystems all over the world.”

Yet the global music business faces no shortage of tests as it aims for a solid decade of growth.

“Music fans greatly value authenticity, and our industry has a strong track record of licensing music and supporting the development of new services that create these experiences for fans,” Rechardt continues. “That said, we still need effective tools and the support of authorities to tackle unauthorized uses and to ensure the music ecosystem remains one that is sustainable for the long term.”

Rebecca Berman Senior vp of international, Concord Label Group Fred Gillham Managing director of U.K. and Europe, Concord Label Group Jeff Van Driel GM of international operations, Concord

Concord has invested in its global team with key hires and partnerships. “Adding A&R in the U.K., capacity in Latin America and Asia, and launching our European commercial team has allowed us to take further control of campaigns for our labels and artists,” says Berman, who notes the global success of Ghost and Thirty Seconds to Mars as proof that the strategy is working. Van Driel adds that Concord’s administrative teams in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and Australia have reorganized to accommodate local needs while centralizing shared functions at Concord’s Nashville headquarters. “We have introduced numerous tech solutions that integrate regional processes into our global system,” he says.

Granite says that “over the past 12 months, UMG has continued to strengthen and expand our operations, repertoire and leadership teams around the world.” UMG invested in Mavin Records in Nigeria, Oriental Star Agencies in South Asia, Chabaka Music in the Middle East/North Africa and RS Group in Thailand. In addition, the company reached new deals with Chinese stars Jay Chou and Eason Chan. Granite says there are “huge opportunities for global music to find popularity through streaming and discovery.”

Donny Novakovic Vp of international marketing, Disney Music Group

“I am proud of the achievements my team and I have had curating the soundtracks of the world, breathing life into the deep catalog and unearthing hidden gems in multiple languages,” Novakovic says. Disney continues to build “a bridge between cultures,” he adds, noting the impact of titles such as Frozen , Frozen II and Moana . “With their upcoming sequels, we’ll continue building on these cherished stories’ legacy,” Novakovic says. And Encanto has sold 8 million copies of its soundtrack, according to Disney, “proving the world is still talking about Bruno.”

Sonny Fodera’s gold-certified “Asking” was the first single in a decade from an artist-owned dance label to enter the U.K. top 10. Other notable ADA achievements: Kerser scored the highest-selling first-week numbers for an Australian artist with A Gift & A Kers , and Hamza’s Sincèrement reached No. 1 in France. Sein was instrumental in securing a global distribution deal for U.S.-based Rostrum Records, founded by CEO Benjy Grinberg. One of the world’s leading independent labels, Rostrum launched the careers of Wiz Khalifa and the late Mac Miller.

Wassim “SAL” Slaiby Founder/CEO, SALXCO/XO, Universal Music Arabic

Slaiby knows a star when he sees one. The Weeknd’s longtime manager, through his company SALXCO, has been involved in the careers of multiple chart-topping musicians — from Brandy to Bryson Tiller to French Montana. He has been helping to push Middle Eastern music to the forefront in the United States with artists like Mohamed Ramadan and Elyanna. “Witnessing Elyanna’s historic performance at Coachella [in 2023], where she became the first artist to captivate the audience with a set in Arabic, and subsequently selling out her North American tour at such a young age has been so special,” he says.

Marcelo Soares President, Som Livre

Kieran Thurgood Senior vp of global marketing, Capitol Music Group

Thurgood points to Doechii and her breakout hit, “What It Is” (featuring Kodak Black), as a global success story for Capitol. The song “sparked out of Nigeria and the Philippines, which in turn created a hit in the U.S., with the song recently topping U.S. charts,” he says. The single reached No. 1 on Billboard ’s Rhythmic Airplay chart in June. And while he adds that Ice Spice “has been a key global focus” for the label, he promises an “even bigger 2024” for the fast-rising superstar. “It’s a hugely exciting time for Capitol,” he says. “The building is just buzzing.”

Chloé van Bergen Vp of operations for U.K. and Europe, Secretly Group Chris Cannon Head of international strategy, Secretly Distribution Tom Davies Director of global marketing and campaigns, Secretly Distribution

With new offices in Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam and Sydney, the Secretly Group of labels and Secretly Distribution enjoyed international growth in 2023. Notably, Secretly Group celebrated the viral success of Mitski’s “My Love Mine All Mine,” which entered the top 30 of the Hot 100 and ruled the TikTok Billboard Top 50 for six weeks. Secretly Distribution added new label clients (including Chrysalis Records and Moshi Moshi Records), with van Bergen citing “hugely successful campaigns it oversaw, such as Sufjan Stevens’ acclaimed Javelin [Asthmatic Kitty], El Michels Affair & Black Thought [Big Crown], Say She She [Colemine Records] and label services client campaigns such as A24, Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter, Beirut and many more.”

Dan Waite CEO, Better Noise Music

Manuel Abud CEO, Latin Recording Academy

Global expansion and diversification have been the core goals of the Latin Recording Academy over the past year. For the first time, not only were the Latin Grammy Awards held abroad, in Seville, Spain, but also featured 100% female representation in the four main categories — and Laura Pausini was honored as the 2023 person of the year. As part of its international expansion plan, the academy also pursued opportunities in Mexico, Brazil and Spain outside of awards season. “I am very proud to continue leading my team with the support of our board of trustees,” Abud says, “and look forward to continue building on this momentum of our evolution in the year ahead.”

Charlie Lexton COO, Merlin

Merlin, which represents 15% of the global recorded-music market, has spent the past year developing what Lexton calls a “data warehouse” to analyze its trove of streaming, video and social media metrics. “This sophisticated platform facilitates comprehensive analysis to deliver deep insights,” says Lexton (who was promoted to COO in 2020), at a time when Merlin had spent the previous 12 years distributing some $4 billion to its more than 500 members. Lexton’s team has also hired data, analytics, finance and software employees who are “focused on furnishing the organization’s members with unique, exclusive and actionable insights.”

John Nolan CFO/interim joint head, IFPI Lauri Rechardt Chief legal officer/interim joint head, IFPI

John Phelan Director general, International Confederation of Music Publishers

Phelan’s team helped “bag serious wins in incoming AI laws for the music industry and our songwriter and composer partners,” he says, citing the European Union AI Act, which European Parliament passed March 13 after negotiations throughout 2023. According to the ICMP, the act forces AI companies to “observe EU copyright law,” stop “illegally taking the world’s music to train AI models” and “retain detailed documentation on what content was used to train the model.” The law, Phelan adds, “will be a force multiplier for copyright protection in AI around the world, [which] matters for every last music company and creator.”

Annette Barrett Managing director/global strategic liaison, Reservoir; president, International Music Publishers Forum Jeremy Lascelles Co-founder/CEO, Blue Raincoat Music; CEO, Chrysalis Records Hussain “Spek” Yoosuf Executive vp of international and emerging markets, Reservoir; founder/CEO, PopArabia

In the past year, Reservoir’s global offices have executed strategic deals through its venture with PopArabia, such as signing “Queen of Pop” Nancy Ajram and continuing to develop PopArabia’s rights organization, ESMAA. The first-of-its-kind music rights management entity looks to protect artists and music creators throughout the United Arab Emirates and the Persian Gulf. One of its major accomplishments includes creating the first licensing platform for music publishers and performing rights organizations in the Middle East and North Africa. “It is an honor,” Yoosuf says, “to be recognized alongside my colleagues Jeremy Lascelles and Annette Barrett out of the U.K.”

Ben Budde CEO, Budde Group

Catrin Drabble CFO, Kobalt Rob Christensen Executive vp/head of global synch, Kobalt Jon Trumbull Global head of client services and administration, Kobalt Leslie Ahrens Senior vp of creative for Latin America, Kobalt Kenny McGoff Head of creative U.K., Kobalt

“Collectively, the Kobalt team has been behind some of the most important artists of the last 12 months,” McGoff says. He hails Billboard Women in Music 2024 Woman of the Year Karol G, “who continues to break new ground.” Her 2023 album, Mañana Será Bonito , became the first all-Spanish-language album by a female artist to top the Billboard 200 and earned the Latin pop star her first Grammy Award in February. He also cites “top-liner Mocha” (Imani Lewis), who co-wrote Tyla’s global smash and Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart No. 1, “Water,” and The Last Dinner Party, “one of the most exciting new bands in the world.”

Kim Frankiewicz Executive vp of worldwide A&R, Concord Music Publishing Tina Funk Managing director, Concord Music Publishing Germany, Switzerland and Austria Jaime Gough Managing director, Concord Australia and New Zealand

Shani Gonzales Managing director, Warner Chappell Music U.K.; head of international A&R, Warner Chappell Music Natascha Augustin Managing director, Warner Chappell Music Germany Lars Karlsson Managing director, Warner Chappell Music Scandinavia Gustavo Menéndez President, U.S. Latin and Latin America, Warner Chappell Music Santiago Menéndez-Pidal President, Warner Chappell Music Southern Europe Matthieu Tessier Managing director, Warner Chappell Music France

In the United Kingdom, Gonzales oversaw Warner Chappell Music writer Dave teaming up with Central Cee for the 2023 single “Sprinter,” which became the longest-reigning U.K. rap single in U.K. chart history. According to the Official Charts Company, Warner Chappell Music Germany achieved a 27.8% market share in 2023, in part thanks to Augustin’s embrace of German-language hip-hop. Under Karlsson, Warner Chappell writer Loreen won Sweden’s Melodifestivalen contest with “Tattoo,” which she then took to the Eurovision Song Contest. At the Latin Grammy Awards, held in Spain last year, Menéndez celebrated the person of the year honor going to Italian-born Warner Chappell writer-performer Laura Pausini, the first artist born outside of Latin America or Spain to receive the recognition.

David Gray Executive vp/head of U.S. A&R/head of global creative group, Universal Music Publishing Group Alexandra Lioutikoff President of Latin America and U.S. Latin, Universal Music Publishing Group Yadira Moreno Managing director of Mexico and Central America, Universal Music Publishing Group Ana Rosa Santiago Senior vp of Latin America and U.S. Latin, Universal Music Publishing Group

Josh Gruss CEO, Round Hill Music

The sale of the London Stock Exchange-listed Round Hill Music Royalty Fund portfolio to Concord was a “standout transaction,” Gruss says, as it featured 10 years’ worth of a carefully curated collection of rights. It also demonstrated the value of “timeless, well-managed music and ensured a second successful exit event for our investors, following the 2020 [initial public offering] of the portfolio that we originally launched back in 2012,” he says.

Guy Henderson President of international, Sony Music Publishing David Ventura President/co-managing director of U.K./senior vp of international, Sony Music Publishing Tim Major Co-managing director of U.K., Sony Music Publishing Nicolas Galibert Managing director of France, Sony Music Publishing Jorge Mejia President/CEO of Latin America and U.S. Latin, Sony Music Publishing

The publisher scored a global smash with Rema and Selena Gomez’s No. 3 Billboard Global 200 hit, “Calm Down,” produced by Michael “London” Hunter; landed numerous Latin chart-toppers, including Shakira and Karol G’s “TQG,” co-written by Keityn; and paired Dan Smith of Bastille with composer Hans Zimmer on the score to the BBC’s Planet Earth III . “We are very intentional about nurturing meaningful connections with our songwriters so that we can help them to realize their creative ambitions,” Major says. Ventura notes working with Sony’s Social Justice Fund and SMP’s Songwriters Forward initiative, which “continues to make an impact on the next generation of talent.”

Loiterton highlights last year’s investment in Indian label/music publisher Times Music — part of the Times of India media conglomerate — as part of Primary Wave’s effort to invest in emerging markets, which he notes “will be the growth engine for the business over the next decade.” The deal marked the company’s “first strategic partnership in emerging markets,” he adds, and “recognizes the growth of non-English-language music in markets like the U.S.”

Merck Mercuriadis Founder/chairman, Hipgnosis Song Management

Mercuriadis and the Hipgnosis team have had an indelible impact on the catalog market since the company’s inception. Now Mercuriadis, who recently stepped down as Hipgnosis’ CEO but remains its chairman, has $3 billion in assets under management, including parts of catalogs from Justin Bieber, Shakira, David Foster, Tobias Jesso Jr., Erika Ender and TMS in the last few years. Since 2023, Hipgnosis has handled $400 million in acquisitions that includes more than 50 No. 1 hits from Taylor Swift, Mariah Carey and Beyoncé, according to the company. Hipgnosis Songs Management is the investment adviser to Hipgnosis Songs Fund, whose board in April received competing takeover bids from Concord and Blackstone.

Mary Megan Peer CEO, peermusic Spencer Lee President of Asia Pacific, peermusic

Emily Stephenson President, Downtown Music Publishing Thando Makhunga Managing director, Sheer Publishing Africa

Scoring new deals with artists like Peso Pluma and Colbie Caillat, Downtown Music Publishing had “unprecedented growth” throughout 2023, Stephenson says. Downtown also represented 11 global songwriters who took home Grammy Awards in 2024, including best traditional pop vocal album and best tropical Latin album. The company helped place Bruce Hornsby’s “The Show Goes On” in the season premiere of FX’s Emmy Award-winning TV series The Bear and secured a new administrative services deal with publisher Spirit Music Group. Stephenson attributes Downtown’s blockbuster year to its “unwavering commitment to serving emerging, independent artists around the world.”

Dion Brant CEO, Frontier Touring Susan Heymann COO, Frontier Touring

Frontier Touring set about smashing records in 2023 with over 600 shows across Australia; more than 40 of those were in stadiums, including Ed Sheeran’s +-=÷x Tour. Equally impressive, Brant says, are the more than 20 new acts broken in that time as touring headliners. “Our approach is different from other promoters,” he says. “Our priorities are the artist, the fans and the show, ahead of the net profit or the quarterly market update.” That success continued in early 2024 with Taylor Swift’s sold-out, seven-date Australian stadium run for her The Eras Tour, produced by Frontier.

Carolina Daza Head of live entertainment, Cárdenas Marketing Network

Denis Desmond Chairman, Live Nation U.K. and Ireland John Reid President, Live Nation Europe, the Middle East and Africa Marek Lieberberg CEO/managing director, Live Nation Germany, Austria and Switzerland Andre Lieberberg President/managing director, Live Nation Germany, Austria and Switzerland Mark Kneebone Vp of talent, Live Nation Australasia; managing director, Live Nation New Zealand Wenona Lok Promoter, Live Nation Australasia

Under Desmond, Live Nation U.K. and Ireland had a record year in 2023 with 16 million tickets sold, including stadium shows by Beyoncé, Blur, Harry Styles, The Weeknd and AEW Wrestling, according to the company. Father and son Marek and Andre Lieberberg led Live Nation’s acquisition of Goodhive, which presents 10 festivals across Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Live Nation promoted 71 arena dates in the region by German schlager singer Helene Fischer, one of the biggest arena concerts in Germany’s history in the number of shows, according to Live Nation. Kneebone, with help from Lok, oversaw TWICE becoming the first female group to headline a stadium in Australia and the first K-pop act to play such a venue with its two shows in November at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne.

Pascual Egea Head of Europe, WK Entertainment César Figueiredo Artist manager, WK Entertainment/Central Sonora

Kaori Hayashi CEO, Hayashi International Promotions

Hayashi says that “without a doubt” her company’s greatest achievement over the past year was promoting seven sold-out Bruno Mars stadium shows at the Tokyo Dome, which she says broke all records for Japanese box-office receipts and confirmed “that Bruno is the No. 1 international artist in Japan.” Hayashi runs the company founded by her father, Hiromichi “Massy” Hayashi, and was recognized last fall in Billboard Japan’s Women in Music interview series. “There aren’t many female concert promoters out there,” she says, “so I’d be happy if people notice me for being the next generation of the business and for being a rare woman in it who can really help shake up the industry.”

Alex Hill President/CEO, AEG Europe Adam Wilkes Chairman/CEO, AEG Asia Pacific; chairman of the board, Frontier Touring Steve Homer CEO, AEG Presents U.K. Jim King CEO of European festivals, AEG Presents John Langford COO, AEG Europe Simon Jones Senior vp of international touring, AEG Presents

Joe Howard Global festival promoter, C3 Presents Huston Powell Promoter, C3 Presents

Global impact is a C3 Presents hallmark, as Lollapalooza consistently showcases robust lineups of local and regional talent along with major global touring acts. Howard has observed an uptick in international artists playing higher positions on festival bills, “from Stray Kids headlining Lolla Paris last summer to the significant slots for Karol G, Tomorrow X Together and NewJeans performing at Lolla Chicago, and The Rose playing five different Lollapalooza festivals in the last year between South America, Chicago, Berlin in 2023 and, most recently, in Mumbai [India] this past January.” Colombian artist Feid’s headlining turns at Lolla Chile and Argentina in March provided another highlight.

Blaine Legere President of international, AXS

The AEG-owned ticketing platform launched AXS New Zealand and AXS Australia with a mix of venue, sports and music clients. Two subsequent high points for the company included the Foo Fighters’ Christchurch gig at Orangetheory Stadium and Paramore’s record-breaking performance at The Domain in Sydney. In Japan, AXS tripled the size of its tech and support teams in running the Valorant Riot Games Championship in Tokyo and supporting World Baseball Classic events in Tokyo and Osaka. “Our presence in [Asia Pacific],” Legere says, “was a key component of AXS winning” the ticketing services deal for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

Peter Loxton COO of commercial, ASM Global

Klaus-Peter Schulenberg CEO, CTS Eventim

Europe’s largest ticketing company, CTS Events, enjoyed a second record-breaking year in revenue and profitability with an international expansion that includes the acquisitions, in partnership with Sony Music Latin-Iberia, of Punto Ticket in Chile and Teleticket in Peru. Besides successfully handling the sales for highly anticipated tours such as Taylor Swift, AC/DC and Rammstein, the company was appointed as one of two ticketers for the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games alongside AEG’s AXS. “These key endeavors underscore our dedication to worldwide growth,” Schulenberg says, “and strengthen CTS Eventim’s position in global live entertainment.”

Alejandro Soberón Kuri Founder/CEO, OCESA Octavio Padilla Director, OCESA Seitrack Leizer Guss Guss Festivals director, OCESA

In 2023, Soberón Kuri says, OCESA “connected the best artists and bands on the planet with an amazing audience, based on creativity, experience and knowledge.” Majority-owned by Live Nation since 2021, the Mexico City-based concert promoter brought fans international superstars like Taylor Swift, Paul McCartney, Lana Del Rey, The Weeknd, Billie Eilish, Post Malone, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rauw Alejandro, Imagine Dragons, Mötley Crüe/Def Leppard and Peso Pluma. “Jointly with Live Nation,” Soberón Kuri says, “we will continue to be one of the most prominent cities in the artistic circuit in the world for artists, promoters and music producers to showcase their talent and connect with the best audiences.”

Sia Aghaiepour Founder/CEO, Heavy Rotation

Emma Banks Mike Greek Co-heads of international touring/co-heads of London office, CAA Chris Dalston Marlene Tsuchii Co-heads of international touring, CAA Andy Cook Music agent, CAA

CAA clients including Harry Styles, Beyoncé, The Weeknd, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Muse and Westlife sold out stadium tours throughout Europe, Asia, South America and Australia, while Lana Del Rey, blink-182, Hozier and Noah Kahan embarked on sold-out global outdoor and arena runs, with “even bigger shows ahead in 2024,” Cook says. He also cites the “staggering success” of AC/DC’s forthcoming Power Up tour, the band’s first European tour in eight years, which Cook says sold 1.5 million tickets internationally the day it went on sale.

Matt Bates CEO/agent, Primary Talent International Rick Levy Partner/board member, Primary Talent International

After announcing a surprise split with CAA in March 2023 — less than a year after CAA acquired Primary Talent through its purchase of Primary’s parent company, ICM Presents — the U.K. booking agency has continued to grow as a “reestablished independent,” Bates says. Since the decoupling, according to the agency, it has booked over 6,000 shows internationally — and sold 400,000 headline tickets for The 1975 in the United Kingdom alone. Last April, the company also welcomed former ICM agent Pete Nash as a partner, gaining his clients including Kings of Leon, Pet Shop Boys, Regina Spektor, Steve Winwood and Travis.

Jeff Craib CEO, The Feldman Agency Rob Segal President of TFA brands and partnerships, The Feldman Agency

Lucy Dickins Partner/global head of contemporary music and touring, WME Josh Javor Partner/co-head of London music department, WME James Rubin Partner/co-head of hip-hop/R&B, WME Brett Murrihy Partner/head of music Asia Pacific, WME Shannon Saunders Agent, WME

Teams in Latin America, Europe and the Asia Pacific region have made WME “the only major music booking agency with multiple regional servicing groups,” Dickins says. This reach made it possible to book “a wide range of truly global tours this year” with runs including a 214-show Backstreet Boys outing that visited six continents and, Dickins says, sold over 2 million tickets. Usher held a residency in Paris; Luis Miguel launched a 121-show tour in North, South and Central America; Bruno Mars played seven sold-out shows at Japan’s Tokyo Dome; Zach Bryan played his first European headlining shows; and J Balvin played his first headline dates in Australia. Adele’s upcoming residency in Munich will also mark the first time an artist has had a stadium purposely built for a show.

Hady Hajjar Co-founder/managing director, HuManagement

Representing clients and celebrities from the Middle East and North Africa, HuManagement has had significant growth in the last year through its talent representation business and celebrity marketing work. “Our strategic partnership with Warner Music further solidifies our world position, enabling us to amplify local talent, global superstars and world-class events to the region including F1, Joy Awards and the Red Sea International Film Festival,” Hajjar says. “With the entertainment market expected to grow in the region 9.41% by 2029, we’re excited to be a part of shaping the future of film, music, sports and cultural events.”

Keith Naisbitt Executive vp of global touring, Independent Artist Group Peter Pappalardo Executive vp/head of global touring, Independent Artist Group

Pappalardo calls 50 Cent’s Final Lap European tour a highlight last year for the company, which was created from the merger of the Agency for the Performing Arts and Artist Group International in June. He says the 50 Cent run boasted a “near 100% sellout rate,” including more than 30,000 tickets sold in Paris and the “fastest sellout” in the history of Riga, Latvia. The tour, which was originally scheduled for 25 shows, garnered such “overwhelming demand,” he adds, that the number of dates swelled to 38 across the continent.

Brent Smith Executive vp/managing executive, Wasserman Music Tom Schroeder Executive vp/managing executive, Wasserman Music (U.K.) Jesse Fayne Vp of international festivals, Wasserman Music Anna Bewers Ryan Penty Agents, Wasserman Music (U.K.)

The agency continued representing major stars including SZA, Nothing but Thieves and Fred again.. along with “many of the most promising new artists around the world,” Schroeder says. He says the essential element driving Wasserman Music’s international growth has been “fostering innovation and integration across all the services we provide globally,” from talent booking, brand partnerships and artist marketing to “cross-pollinating all aspects of entertainment, sports and culture.” But, he says, it’s the company’s “core characteristics — passion, creativity, authenticity, industriousness — that have set us apart and always will.”

Casper Bjørner CEO, STIM

The Swedish collective management organization (CMO) celebrated its 100th anniversary last year and collected a record 2.7 billion krona ($267.3 million) in 2022, a 25.6% increase over 2021. According to STIM, it will set another record with its 2023 results, partly thanks to processing and licensing hub ICE, which it runs as a joint venture with PRS for Music and GEMA. “Sweden is once again punching above its weight as one of only three net music exporters in the world,” Bjørner says, referring to nations whose repertoire sells outside of its borders. “Laser focused on transparent and fast payments to our members, we are all set for another century of great music-making.”

Tobias Holzmüller CEO, GEMA

Peter Leathem CEO, PPL

According to PPL, the U.K. performance society that collects neighboring rights royalties for artists and labels, total revenue grew yet again in 2023, while payouts in 2022 increased by 14.3% to 279.6 million pounds ($350.6 million) from 244.7 million pounds ($306.9 million) in 2022. PPL continues “to grow the value of the global neighboring rights market through supporting the development of the rights landscape outside of Europe,” Leathem says, “including landing a new deal for performers in India and engaging with policymakers in China and Japan to further open up public performance licensing.”

Andrea Czapary Martin CEO, PRS for Music

In 2022, U.K. rights collection organization PRS for Music collected a record high 964 million pounds ($1.2 billion), a 22.9% increase over 2021, and cut its cost ratio to a new low of 9.3% — a major focus for Martin. PRS also accomplished “the migration of our distribution systems to the Oracle cloud, the first CMO to do so,” Martin says. That “has accelerated our ability to process even more data so we can pay out more royalties, more accurately and more quickly.”

Gadi Oron Director general, CISAC

Cristina Perpiñá-Robert CEO, SGAE

Perpiñá-Robert took the top job at SGAE in April 2023 in time for the organization’s 125th anniversary this year. She is in the process of restoring SGAE’s reputation after some troubled years, and the organization collected 349 million euros ($367 million) in 2022, an increase of 35% over the previous year. In May, the organization will announce that its distributions will rise almost 12%. Perpiñá-Robert is also making SGAE more of a hub for Latin music, representing 16 societies for Pan-European online collection. “We added Argentina in late 2023 and Chile a few months before,” she says. “And our biggest composers make really young, urban music.” She also helped organize an important AI conference in March, with an event on collective management to follow in June.

Cécile Rap-Veber CEO, SACEM

In 2022, the French CMO collected 1.4 billion euros ($1.5 billion) and distributed 1.1 billion euros ($1.2 billion), and Rap-Veber says 2023, for which results are forthcoming, “was once again a record-breaking year.” Last year, she says, SACEM expanded its blockchain-based Musicstart service, ran a study with Deezer on its pioneering “artist-centric streaming” royalty model and, on the AI front, exercised “the right to opt out of generative AI training databases to ensure fair remuneration for our members” and published a study with GEMA on its impact in music. “I remain convinced that AI needs to be made more virtuous and more transparent,” Rap-Veber says. “That’s why we [were] in dialogue with policymakers” about the European Union AI Act.

Methodology: Billboard ’s International Power Players recognizes executives whose primary responsibilities are outside the United States, solely within the industry sectors shown. Nominations for all of Billboard ’s industry-sourced executive lists open no less than 150 days in advance of publication, and a submission link is sent by request before the nomination period. (Please email [email protected] for inclusion on the email list for nomination links and for how to obtain an editorial calendar.) Honorees on International Power Players among rights organizations were chosen solely by Billboard ’s editorial team and not through industry nominations. Honorees were chosen by editors based on factors including their industry impact, as measured by Billboard charts; sales and streaming performance; market share; revenue or, where not available, Billboard revenue estimates, which may be aided by company guidance; social media impressions; and radio audiences reached, using data available as of April 1. Where required, U.S. record-label market share was consulted using Luminate’s current market share for albums, plus track-equivalent and streaming-equivalent album consumption and Billboard ’s quarterly top 10 publisher rankings. Unless otherwise noted, Billboard Boxscore and Luminate are the sources for tour grosses and sales/streaming data, respectively. Luminate is also the source for radio audience metrics. The source for radio metrics is monitored station airplay from Mediabase provided by Luminate.
