Due out Friday, February 2nd via Matisyahu’s own label Fallen Sparks Records , Hold The Fire is organized around the four earth elements. The lead single, “Fireproof”, deals with themes of perseverance, gratitude, and overcoming adversity. The song offers a hopeful message that is especially powerful in the context of the ongoing conflict in Israel.
On Tuesday, Matisyahu made a surprise appearance at the March for Israel in Washington, D.C., where he performed his anthem of peace, “One Day”, alongside The Maccabeats . The solidarity event drew hundreds of thousands of participants and included appearances from President of Israel Isaac Herzog , Debra Messing , Van Jones , Michael Rapaport , Israeli musicians Ishay Ribo and Omer Adam , family members of the hostages in Gaza, various faith leaders, bipartisan congressional leaders, and more.
“That was amazing. What an incredible thing it was to be with everybody and in total unity with the Jewish people in Washington, D.C.,” Matisyahu said. “Singing ‘One Day’ together blew me away with what we’re going through right now. The way that song has become an anthem for so many young people is so moving. Thank you to everyone – what a day!”

In his continued support of Israel and his Jewish roots, Matisyahu made a surprise appearance today (November 14th) at the March for Israel at the National Mall in Washington, DC where he performed his global anthem “One Day” alongside The Maccabeats. Marking one of the largest public displays of Jewish pride, solidarity with the people of Israel, and inter-group unity based on shared American and Jewish values, today’s gathering of hundreds of thousands – which also included appearances from President of Israel Isaac Herzog, Debra Messing, Van Jones, Michael Rapaport, Israeli musicians Ishay Ribo and Omer Adam, family members of the hostages in Gaza, various faith leaders, bipartisan congressional leaders, and more – called for the urgent and safe release of the hostages, the denouncement of antisemitic violence, hate and harassment in the U.S., and the end of Hamas and terrorism amidst America’s continuous support of Israel.
“That was amazing. What an incredible thing it was to be with everybody and in total unity with the Jewish people in Washington, DC,” shares Matisyahu. “Singing ‘One Day’ together blew me away with what we’re going through right now. With more than fifteen years under his belt, he’s teamed up with the best improvisational musicians and artists for jam sessions and collaborations, and his long and winding career consists of seven studio albums including the chart-topping Light (2009), Youth (2006), and Spark Seeker (2012), as well as Akeda (2014), Undercurrent (2017), and Matisyahu (2022), and various live albums including his 2005 breakthrough Live At Stubb’s. This past summer, the New York-raised and New Jersey-based multi-talent released Live In Brooklyn, recorded at the iconic Brooklyn Bowl New York during his annual Festival of Light. Exemplifying his transcendent live show, Live In Brooklyn features renditions of fan-favorites and global hits including the Gold-certified “One Day” – whose original version has been streamed over 140 million times on Spotify alone – and the genre-bending, Billboard Hot 100-charting and alt-radio topping breakthrough single “King Without A Crown.” The release of “Fireproof” follows Matisyahu’s recent single “Ripples,” released in September.

Creativity is like a fire in a fireplace: You have to tend it or it will go out. For nearly two decades, Matisyahu has kept his creative spirit aflame by evolving his sound, melding genres, and testing the limits of the musical traditions that have inspired him. His latest release, Hold The Fire, and its leadoff single “Fireproof” takes inspiration from a fire dream inspired by Matisyahu's Old Testament religion, which has meant so much to his spiritual and creative life since his recording career began in 2004 and his breakout track "King Without a Crown" blasted into the Billboard charts in 2005. In a roundabout way, those same Old Testament roots springboarded Matisyahu's music career. Growing up outside New York City, the young Matthew Miller followed jam bands like Phish and the Grateful Dead. Then, in Bob Marley and reggae, he found that the messaging of Rastafarianism was sourced in part from that same Old Testament. The sound that emerged on his first albums—including his first two studio releases as well as 2005's Gold-certified Live at Stubb's—embraced both the spirit of reggae and his spirituality and roots in Judaism. Buoyed by hits like "King Without a Crown," albums like the Grammy-nominated and Billboard No.1-ranked Youth in 2006, and the Gold-certified 2009 antiwar hit "One Day" (streamed over 150 million times on Spotify alone), he toured extensively through the second half of the aughts with a high-energy stage show that has since grown to include more improvisation. All the while his music expanded into a shapeshifting collision of reggae, hip-hop, alt rock and boldly inventive pop. Today, he continues to be inspired by evolving musical trends, finding linkages and loops between eras and genres. Matisyahu's spirituality has evolved in parallel with his music, though his Jewish heritage remains a central theme throughout his life and music. The new EP, Hold The Fire (out February 2024), also finds him reflecting on celebrity and artistic success. For Matisyahu, “the unbelievable and miraculous feeling of being connected to our people” is what keeps the creative fire alight.

Matthew Paul Miller (born June 30th, 1979 in West Chester, Pennsylvania), better known by his stage name Matisyahu (which means “Gift of God” in Yiddish), is an American rapper and reggae musician.
It’s no coincidence whatsoever that Miller actively chooses to go by a name that very clearly references his Jewish upbringing and faith; his early life, prior to his breakthrough as a musician, is defined initially by the strictness with which he was brought up to adhere to his religion, and then just how spectacularly he managed to break away from it in his teens, when he dropped out of high school, began taking drugs and spent as much time as he could following the band Phish around as they toured. Once he managed to put that behind him, though, he aligned himself with a Hasidic community in New York and began to make music, releasing his first record “Shake Off the Dust...Arise” on a label specifically designed to help promote Jewish musicians.
Since then, he’s become popular in circles much wider than the niche area of the music industry that he began in, and his third record, “Youth”, was enough to see him named Best Reggae Musician by Billboard in 2006. He’s carved out something of a cult fanbase, based in part purely on his irrepressibly charismatic personality, and further boosts to his career like the scooping of the Best Documentary Feature at the 2007 Slamdance Film Festival for the movie Unsettled, in which he’s featured heavily, as well as having his track “One Day” featured in NBC advertising for the Olympic Games, have ensured that his star remains on the rise; his newest record, “Akeda”, has seen him strip back his sound to rave reviews.
Live reviews
In all of his studio albums, Matisyahu has made a hallmark of daring creativity, and has demonstrated a unique ability to integrate diverse musical influences into his sound. He never plays it safe. Every album is a new musical, and spiritual exploration; and because of this, he has sometimes disappointed his more genre-oriented fans who tend to pine for the "good-old-days" when he seemed to be a reggae super-star and Jewish icon. But no true artist can live in a box, any more than every fan of one period in an artist's life can follow them into the next. In the end, the artist creates for those who can hear the deeper melody, changing and evolving through each period, the same melody that haunts them and has to be delivered from within.
Matisyahu fuses the contemporary styles of reggae, rap, beatboxing, and hip-hop in general, with the more traditional vocal disciplines of jazz's scat singing and Judaism's hazzan style of songful prayer. The New York Times Kelefa Sanneh wrote that "His sound owes a lot to early dancehall reggae stars like Barrington Levy and Eek-a-Mouse."
His love for Reggae started from the fact that his mother's sister married a man from Barbados and that is where his cousins were raised. Every time he would visit, he started paying more attention to their music. That was the first time he remembered hearing reggae and liking it. After that, he got into Bob Marley. He then went to see Israel Vibration and claims that they changed his life. He fell I love with the heaviness of the music, the meditative quality, and the spirituality of the lyrics with all of the Old Testament references which to him, seemed like the full package. The Chicago Tribune's Kevin Pang described a Matisyahu performance as "soul-shaking brand of dancehall reggae, a show that captures both the jam band vibe of Phish and the ska-punk of Sublime." Coming from his Jewish background and compounding his use of the hazzan style, Matisyahu's lyrics are mostly English with more than occasional use of Hebrew and Yiddish.

An orthodox Jewish man reggae rapping alternative rock songs. What?! Normally this would never fly, but somehow Matthew Paul Miller made it work. Better known as Matsiyahu (his Hebrew name), he has taken all the things he loves, and made it into a unique sound.
Because of his unique sound, his live sets are just as interesting as his music. The show starts with the stage going dark, and then instrumental noise, yes, noise. Then strobe lights start to slowly flash giving a small glance at the band. Almost instantly, the noise turns to the beginning of “Crossroads,” as smoke rises and the crowd quiets in complete anticipation. Matisyahu walks out from the side of the stage and then the music picks up and the crowd goes completely wild. He is clad in complete orthodox Chassidic clothing, long beard, and yarmulke, definitely not something you would have imagined had you not known who he was and just listened to his music.
He performed a fourteen-song set, most of which came from his “Shake Off the Dust” and “Youth” albums. What was most surprising was that the guy has a pretty good singing ability with a really wide range, in addition to his rapping skills.
Matthew Paul Miller better known by both his stage name and Hebrew name Matisyahu is an American reggae rapper and alternative rock musician. It is perhaps as unbelievable as it sounds yet this level of intrigue has drawn people from around the globe to Matisyahu's often evocative and interactive live performance.
It goes without saying that seeing an artist perform live is a great way of seeing if they can carry the sound of their recording into a real world setting. Miller's sounds are ones of utter contrast yet he does manage to perform them with a great amount of skill and they do sound absolutely note perfect when compared to the albums. He is a jovial personality onstage telling the audience crazy stories about his travels and how he came to discover hip hop and what drew him to it from his conservative upbringings. He demonstrates real freestyle ability on 'One Day' and 'I Believe In Love' proving that perhaps we should all step outside our comfort zones from time to time as the outcome can often be one of success.
I was looking forward to your concert for weeks but once I arrived I was truly disappointed! I never thought you could put on such a disappointing show and I feel terrible for all your fans last night including myself. For two hours you spent more time connecting with your band and letting them have instrumental solos for most of each song and then you spent the rest of it beat boxing into the mic. If you truly looked out into the audience you would see the confusion and boredom on your fans faces. We came and paid money to hear YOU SING your amazing songs and listen to your awesome voice but we didn't get any of that. If you really read these reviews I hope you make some major adjustments to your set, sing for your fans, and give a shit about putting on a great song. Don't let's fans see you LIVE and regret it! I left thinking "man, this guy used to be great". It's too bad bc Portland didn't get to see the artist we all thought would show up.
Very disappointed fan!
I bought the ticket 2 months in advance, as it was always my dreams to see him and to listen to his songs at a live show! I was so excited, the concert took place at an amazing venue - The Vets, Providence, RI. The souns was really good, for me it was a seat on the balcony so I could see everything, but there were also places in front of the stage where people could stand up and come up to the stage. The concert began with a local singer / songwriter, then an intermission for 30 minutes, then the set of Matisyahu with a short break. The musician was great!! He started with "Close my eyes" and the fans were absolutely happy! most songs were extended with instrumental breaks and beatbox. Sometimes mysterious, sometimes energetic, but all in all absolutely awesome!
Amazing show! The vibe was on point! Great set, great openers, just all around awesome music that you could feel in your soul!
Meeting him at the Post Show Kickback was an added bonus!I've been listening to him since middle school, I'm 31 now and this was my first time seeimg him im person and chatting with him. He was so attentive to everyone he spoke with at the meet & greet!
Come back to North Carolina soon! Maybe even the Fayettevill/Fort Bragg area? ;)
Haven't seen Matisyahu perform since his chasidm years. Show was disappointing. He lacked energy. He didn't engage at all with the crowd other than shaking hands throughout the show. He didn't talk or even acknowledge the audience. There was too much filler music as he just stood on the stage. I had high expectations because he's a talented musician. But it seems his energy is gone. He did play some classics and the crowd was really into it.
The concert was definitely enjoyable! The sound effects brought the whole concert to life. The guitarists were very good, and the drummer was superb, bringing in unconventional instruments for sound effects for the songs. Finally, Matisyahu was wonderful, interacting with the crowd and even singing a song the crowd wanted him to. A wonderful experience and well thought out.
Matis never disappoints....it's that simple. I wasn't sure what to expect in an acoustic show. I liked the idea of a more "stripped down" performance. And did he ever deliver! There is no comparison between recorded and live beat boxing. It was phenomenal. He is an artist who truly appreciates his fans, and showed us love throughout the night. As did we for him....
It was amazing!!! High Quality Reggae and Dub!!
Prabably, if Matisyahu return i will go to see!
The best beat box in the world. Please return soon!!!!
Cine Jóia is very small but the sound is very good.
The negative point is the little breack they did in the show, about 15 minutes.
Because of this, the public did some noise and screamed to come back.

Matisyahu Talks 'Hold The Fire' EP and New Tour (Exclusive)
Matisyahu's new EP, 'Hold The Fire,' is now available.
By Stephen Andrew - February 2, 2024 02:31 pm EST
Matisyahu has been at the forefront of genre-bending — and blending — hip-hop, reggae, and pop for two decades, and now he's back with a new EP and tour. Dubbed Hold The Fire , the new collection of songs showcases a reinvigorated Matisyahu delivering sway-inducing music and soul-soothing lyrical poetry. In support of the new project, Matisyahu has embarked on an extensive U.S. tour, which makes a stop in St. Petersburg, Florida on Friday night, and will culminate in a show at Brooklyn Steel in New York City on March 23.
The Hold The Fire EP features five new tracks, one of which is "End of the World," an ethereal song that is less about an apocalyptic perspective and more about a destination. Or at least, that's how it began. "It's interesting because that song was written before October 7th, and the lyrics... they more refer to not the time period of the end of the world, but to a place at the end of the world, someplace that you go," Matisyahu told us, referring to the Israel-Hamas war hostage crisis wherein 250 Israeli citizens were kidnapped by the terrorist organization. "Then after October 7th, and I'm seeing 'New Song out by Matisyahu,' and then I'm looking at my Instagram clips, and it's all me in Israel , right? 50 feet away from Gaza, 100 feet from Gaza, performing for the soldiers and stuff. And at 'End of the World,' it feels like that is the place that is the end of the world right there."
We also asked about another new track on the EP, "Love Supplier,' which is no doubt going to be making it on many spring and summer playlists. "I worked with a producer on that song named Ben Antelis, nice guy from my neighborhood," Matisyahu shared. "We hooked up, and I think we wrote the music to that together and it was just a love song. It's like a love song to my wife. That's exactly what it is. It's about, I guess, just being with each other and just enjoying the time together."
Opening up about how he goes working on a song, Matisyahu explained, "I have a process, and sometimes part of my process is just free association and not really trying to write a song per se, but just kind of write a rap. Then I find that ideas will come to me." He then revealed, "For example, I have a song that's not on the EP, but it's the next song I'm releasing after called Descent, song about antisemitism."
Matisyahu continued, "I just heard the beat. Someone played me the beat and I loved it. Started writing. Wasn't planning to write a song about antisemitism or any of that, and just from the first lyric that came out, so that was it. This song is very clearly about that. So sometimes I'll just try to not prepare too much ideas and then other times it's very specific. I'll have a specific idea that I'm working on or that I'm trying to develop."

Finally, Matisyahu shared about what fans can expect from his new tour. "I've never made one set list for a whole tour or even for two shows in a row," he revealed. "I'll try to have a little bit of everything on there. So I'll try to have probably two or three of the new songs, try to have a song from each album, at least a song off of Akeda , song off Spark Seeker , or something off of Undercurrent . Just like maybe a 'Love Born' or a 'Shade from the Sun.' Some of the singles I put out. A couple of classics and then the songs like 'King Without a Crown,' and 'One Day,' and 'Sunshine.'"
"Improvising is still something that I really enjoy and love to do," he added. "So I always would try to, if a moment comes that's kind of feels like it's right, then we'll just open it up and we'll kind of see what happens with the rest of the set list."

Cydeways, an Alt-Reggae band out of Santa Barbara, CA. Fronted by Dustin Parks, Cydeways also features Jeremy Baker, Casey Kernohan, Trevor Buckingham (producer/engineer) & Dana Shoults (co-producer) The group initially formed in Boston, MA before Parks moved the project out west to California
The group eventually caught the attention of Law Records and in speaking with Law’s Yesod Williams , he shares how Cydeways wound up on his radar, telling The Pier: “I was podcasting Joe D. from Iration and he mentioned Cydeways to me. He’s friends with Dustin. After a little time, Hawaiian time that is, I finally reached out to Dustin. He sent me a track he had coincidentally done featuring another mutual friend in the Rhymesayers artists, Grieves , serendipity? I’d say so!”

Bettye LaVette and Lainey Wilson will join the group's /24 Hackney Diamonds tour as guest artists for the June 27 and June 30 shows.
“I’ve been waiting for them to call for 60 years. They finally found my number” LaVette said in a statement.

The move isn't surprising given that LaVette has recorded The Stones “Salt of the Earth” and “Complicated," and Keith Richards plays guitar on her versions of “It Ain’t Me Babe” and “Political World."
Meanwhile Wilson, a Grammy-awar winning singer-songrwiter who also stars in the hit series Yellowstone, has been hailed for defying the norms of the country music genre.
The Chicago stops on the Stones tour come as an added bonus for fans. Originally the band only scheduled one stop at Soldier Field, but added a second "due to overwhelming demand."
The tour comes on the heels of the band's newest album, the first in 18 years to contain a dozen original songs and the first album the band recorded without drummer Charlie Watts , who died in 2021.
According to the 16-city tour announcement, fans can can expect "to experience Mick, Keith and Ronnie play their most popular hits ranging from 'Start Me Up,' 'Gimme Shelter,' 'Jumpin’ Jack Flash,' 'Satisfaction' and more, as well as fan favourite deep cuts and music from their new album HACKNEY DIAMONDS."

The Rolling Stones have decided who will “Start Them Up” on tour this year.
However, unlike most tours, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers are mixing things up and bringing different opening acts to each city they’re hitting on the spring and summer ‘The Stones Tour ’24 Hackney Diamonds.’

As for their MetLife Stadium gigs, pop-soul outfit Lawrence is slated to kick things off at their Sunday, May 26 concert ; no opener has been announced for the Thursday, May 23 show .
And if you’ve been on the fence about catching Mick, Keith and Ronnie live because you fear exorbitant ticket prices, we’re happy to report that some shows have cheaper seats available than one might imagine.
At the time of publication, the lowest price we found on tickets was just $21 before fees on Vivid Seats.
Yes, you read that right. Just $21. We couldn’t believe it either.
Other nights have seats starting anywhere from $44 to $109 before fees (excluding festival dates).

While we can’t guarantee we’ll give you what you want, we promise you’ll get what you need.
Our team has all the details you’re looking for and more about the Rolling Stones’ 2024 ‘Hackney Diamonds Tour’ below.

The Rolling Stones set list
This 16-concert run will be the group’s first official North American trek since 2019’s ‘No Filter Tour,’ which concluded two years later due to COVID-related postponements.
Here’s what the band played at their last run, courtesy of Set List FM .
01.) “Street Fighting Man” 02.) “Let’s Spend the Night Together” 03.) “19th Nervous Breakdown” 04.) “Tumbling Dice” 05.) “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” 06.) “Living in a Ghost Town” 07.) “Start Me Up” 08.) “Honky Tonk Women” 09.) “Connection” 10.) “Slipping Away” 11.) “Miss You” 12.) “Midnight Rambler” 13.) “Paint It Black” 14.) “Sympathy for the Devil” 15.) “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”
16.) “Gimme Shelter”
17.) “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”
Most recently, the band surprised New Yorkers when they performed a set at Racket in the Meatpacking District with Lady Gaga.
You can find their seven-song set list from the October 2023 one-off show here .
The Rolling Stones new music
On Oct. 20, the Stones released their 26th American studio album, “Hackney Diamonds,” featuring special guests Paul McCartney, Elton John, Lady Gaga and Stevie Wonder.
Comprised of 12 hard-rocking tracks that wouldn’t be out of place alongside their singalong stadium anthems of yore, “Diamonds” shows that Mick, Keith, and Ronnie still have their sticky fingers on rock and roll’s pulse.
“We wouldn’t have put this album out if we didn’t really like it,” Jagger, 80, told Jimmy Fallon. “We must say that we are quite pleased with it. We’re not big-headed but we hope you like it.”
If you’re looking to sample the record, we suggest starting with the fierce lead track “Angry” and the wistful ballad “Dreamy Skies.”
Prefer to listen in full? You can find “Hackney Diamonds” here .

Neil Young Stuns at 2024 Tour Launch, Unveils Lost ‘Cortez the Killer’ Verse
By Andy Greene
Andy Greene
In typical Neil Young fashion, virtually nothing was revealed about his 2024 U.S. tour before it kicked off Wednesday night at San Diego’s Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre, other than the fact he’d be backed by Crazy Horse , and that Micah Nelson would be taking over guitar duties from Nils Lofgren. Would he pull a Greendale and debut an entire rock opera nobody had ever heard? Would he focus the set around the three new studio albums he cut with Crazy Horse between 2019 and 2022? Might he repeat the concept of his 2023 solo tour by spotlighting obscure Eighties and Nineties album tracks and skipping most of his hits?
They jammed for six minutes before Young sang the opening lines, igniting the crowd into a frenzy, but the big moment came near the end, when he began singing completely unfamiliar words. As he teased earlier this month , it was the legendary lost segment of the song that failed to record during the 1975 Zuma sessions because the console briefly lost power. Young recently found the lyric manuscript, and worked out where they originally fit in the song.
“I floated on the water,” Young sang. “I ate that ocean wave/Two weeks after the slaughter/I was living in a cave/They came too late to get me/But there’s no one here to set me free/From this rocky grave/To that snowed-out ocean wave.”
It was a remarkable moment to witness. After 49 years and over 540 live performances, the world finally got to hear the song as Young originally wrote it.

Young was talking about “Scattered (Let’s Think About Livin’),” from 1996’s Broken Arrow, which was the newest song they played all evening. The rest of the set was music recorded when Briggs was alive, largely between 1969 and 1979, beginning with “Don’t Cry No Tears.” He followed it up with a triple shot of Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere : “Down by the River,” “The Losing End,” and the title track. And it was a particularly mesmerizing “Down by the River” that stretched out for 16 blissful minutes.

After the Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere mini-set, the quartet (Crazy Horse 4.0?) kicked into one of the greatest renditions of “Powderfinger” I’ve ever heard, thanks to improvisational guitar work prior to each verse by Young and Nelson. What came next was a 16-minute “Love and Only Love,” the band walking offstage, and then Young strapping on an harmonica rack for solo acoustic renditions of “Comes a Time,” “Heart of Gold,” and “Human Highway” that had the entire amphitheater singing along.
The band returned to wrap up the night with “Don’t Be Denied,” an autobiographical tale that carries a lot more emotional weight when Young sings it at age 78 as opposed to 28, and a thrashed-out “Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black).”

He might duplicate this exact set when the tour continues the following night at the same venue. He might not repeat a single song. He may even perform a complete classic album, which is something he started doing late last year. The joy of seeing Neil Young is that you never have any idea what’s going to happen once the lights dim.
