Msc Musica Overview

Everything fits together harmoniously on the MSC Musica to make an unforgettable cruise vacation. The ship has 12 passenger decks and 1,275 staterooms. The majority of the staterooms on this ship are balconies where you can enjoy your first cup of coffee in the morning with your own personal view of the ocean. The outdoor decks are constantly buzzing as passengers lounge poolside, get physical at the Tennis Court or grab drinks at one of the outdoor bars. Inside the MSC Musica glistens and passengers can choose to dress up or down for dinner at the Kaito sushi bar or the L’Oleandro Main Dining Room. We'll be on the Musica in September and I'm researching shore excursions. Any recommendations, pros or cons, on MSC's excursions? I'm considering some of Musica's shore excusions, but I'm not opposed to "wandering around the town" on my own or with a local tour guide. DH and I have traveled through Europe a few times, so we're OK out on our own. I'm especially interested in tours or shore excursions for Turkey.

Unfortunately, with the Musica's time schedule, we're not going to be in most ports very long. The ports are as follows:

Bari, Italy,

Katakolon, Greece

Izmir, and Istanbul,Turkey

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Any suggestions?

I'm a Belgian woman and english is only my tird language, so I apologize if I make some mistakes. I will be on the Musica from 2 till 9 september. What's your departure date? I've never been on a cruise before but my parents have and they suggest not to book the visits, because they're a lot more expensive in comparison with visiting the city on your own.

Actually, being on this cruise was not exactly a choice. I 've won the whole trip! Since I'm a bit afraid of cruising and seasickness and so on, my parents booked a cabin too. They are a lot more experienced! I will be accompanied by my son, he's 3.5 years old.

Where are you interested in when you are visiting a city? Art, architecture, history or perhaps shopping? There are many ways of visiting! May I also ask you if you have already been on a cruiseship? Are you European or American?

I'm sorry to ask you so much questions, but I guess I just want someone to talk to about my questions and fears.

Don't worry about "english is my third language"! I wish I KNEW three languages. As you've probably determined, I'm American. (You Europeans speak many languages and us Americans usually only speak English!)

Our departure date is September 23rd. We have cruised several times, but never in Europe, always in the Caribbean. We've never cruised with MSC either.

It's ironic that you won your trip and it's free. Our trip is free, too! DH and I won it through a promotion at work. Don't worry about seasickness. I get terrible motion sickness, but I've never had a problem on a cruise ship. You might check with your doctor about motion sickness medication before you depart.

DH and I have visited Europe several times, but never as far east as Crotia and Turkey. We want to take a tour in Ephesus, I'm certain. I haven't really figured out what to do in Bari. And it seems like we need to take a tour of Olympia for the Greece port. We will probably take a taxi iin Crotia and wander around town, climbing the wall, etc.

As far as shopping, is there anything we shouldn't miss? I'm not really interested in bringing home a Turkish rug, but are there other things the area is famous for? We have two sons, ages 8 and 11, that will be expecting presents. So we WILL be shopping.

I think the ships excursion in istambul is rather expensif.

In Istambul there is a tramstation near the place you disembark 5min by foot.It costs less than one euro p/person.It takes ten minutes to the bleu moskee free entrance.there nearby is the aya sophia I think 5euro p/person.

Also nearby the underground waterreserves 5euro.The grand bazar is further

10 minutes by foot but I didnt like .The people are very agressif to make you by there goods.You must enjoy the ship,the time in the ports is very short!

we just recently returned from MSC Musica cruise 29Jul07. We did not book any excursion, instead we took taxis/drivers in Katakolon, Istanbul and Dubrovnik (everywhere else just walk from the ship) and it was the best thing ever! We were lucky and got some characters taxi drivers. They took us to the same places as excursions would. They told us about how people live in general as we are always fascinated and curious about different cultures and life styles. Just be open and conversations will flow. The other advantage of getting taxis/drivers, is when you are ready to leave, you don't have to waste your time waiting for the rest of the bus to gather, just call him/her and they will whisk you away to the next stop.

The 2006-built MSC Musica cruise ship is the first of MSC Cruises' Musica-class liners, with sisterships Orchestra , Poesia , Magnifica .

The vessel (IMO number 9320087) is currently Panama- flagged (MMSI 352003000) and registered in Colon .

History - construction and ownership

MSC Cruises (MSC Crociere) is a passenger shipping company headquartered in Genoa and Naples . It was established in 1960. Today, MSC Crociere is a subsidiary of MSC (Mediterranean Shipping Company) - the world's 2nd largest containership company . MSC Crociere is the world's largest privately-owned cruise company.

By annual passenger shipping volumes, MSC is ranked the world's 3rd largest cruise shipowner - following only Carnival Corporation and RCG-Royal Caribbean Group .

The 2500-passenger ship MSC Musica was launched in 2006 as the MSC fleet's largest vessel (at the time). With Musica, MSC grabbed a large piece of the English-speaking source market, but the liner attracted different nationalities - Germans and British in the winter, Italians in the summer months, as well as more and more Americans during high season.

Decks and Cabins

MSC Musica staterooms (1275 total, in 8 grades) include 18x Suites, 809x Balconies, 173x Oceanviews, 275x Inside. Most staterooms are sized 150-190 ft2 / 14-18 m2. Most cabin balconies are sized 40 ft2 / 4 m2. The largest are the Balcony Suites (270 ft2 / 25 m2 with terrace sized 50 ft2 / 5 m2).

The boat has 16 decks , of which 13 are passenger-accessible and 8 with cabins.

MSC Musica decks are named after musical terms/tempos.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

Two formal restaurants onboard MSC Musica serve Mediterranean and Italian cuisine in traditional assigned seatings. Two buffet restaurants, which seem like a single dining area during the day, with long-serving counters, provide casual dining for breakfast and lunch. The aft buffet restaurant is reserved at night for seated dining and features a steak-house menu and extra charge; the forward one serves pizza. The a la carte sushi and Asian speciality restaurants require reservations and carry an additional charge. Itineraries

MSC Musica itinerary program is based on 7-day Eastern Caribbean roundtrips from La Romana , Pointe-a-Pitre and Fort-de-France . During summer, Musica operates 7-day Eastern Mediterranean roundtrips out of Venice to the Greek Islands. The ship also offers cheap Transatlantic repositioning crossings between Europe and the Caribbean.

Due to the Coronavirus crisis, the MSC ship Musica was paused for 2+ years (between March 2020 and June 2022), restarting operations on June 5th (Mediterranean from Monfalcone ). Musica's South Africa 2021-2022 program (from Durban) was canceled.

In December 2021, MSC announced that starting on June 5, 2022, Musica will be seasonally homeported in Monfalcone Italy for 7-day roundtrips visiting Bari Italy , Katakolon-Olympia Greece , Thyra/Santorini Island Greece , and Heraklion/Crete Island Greece . Alternatively, roundtrips from Bari (homeporting) were also offered.

In the summers of 2023 and 2024 (May-November), MSC homeported Musica in Greece ( Piraeus-Athens ). The Eastern Mediterranean programs were based on a 7-day itinerary visiting Santorini Greece, Kusadasi-Ephesus Turkey ,  Haifa Israel ,  Limassol Cyprus , and  Mykonos Greece . Besides Athens, roundtrips were also offered from the ports in Turkey, Israel and Cyprus.

For the remaining time, the ship was deployed in South America operating 8-9-day roundtrips from Buenos Aires Argentina and Montevideo Uruguay . Seasonal relocation included Transatlantic crossings between the Mediterranean and South America (RepositionCruises.com).

The vessel (STX France, Chantiers de l’Atlantique yard/hull number Q32) has volume 92409 GT-tons, DWT-deadweight tonnage 9945 tons, max draught 7,9 m. The powerplant is based on Wartsila marine diesel engines (model W16V38B) with combined output 36,05 MW (48340 hp). The registered shipowner is MUSICA CRUISE LTD, while the registered manager is MSC MEDITERRANEAN SHIPPING CO.

Musica is MSC's first Musica-class liner (Inaugural cruise June 29, 2006), with sisterships the fleetmates Magnifica ,  Orchestra ,  Poesia .

MSC Musica refurbishment 2019 review

MSC Musica's last drydocking was in 2024 (April 21-May 13) at Palumbo Shipyard in Valletta (Malta) . The project was for routine maintenance, technical overhauls, classification works/safety inspections, steelworks/minor repairs.

The drydock refurbishment in 2019 (October 19 through November 12) was conducted at Port Marseille 's Chantier Naval de Marseille Shipyard.

The USD 40 million drydocking project included scheduled general maintenance works plus technology upgrades - including a new EGCSA (exhaust gas cleaning system / aka scrubbers).

All staterooms and public areas were renovated.

The vessel's previous drydock was in 2016 (November).

Wander down its winding medieval alleyways, take in historical, Piazza Matteotti, and admire a magnificent cluster of 16th and 17th-century buildings. Genoa’s heritage as a naval power is evident in La Lanterna, a historical lighthouse built in 1543. Beyond the city, romantic towns can be found nestled along the coastline, including the gelati-coloured Portofino.

Delight in an MSC Cruises excursion to picturesque Portfino, a famous fishing village on the Italian Riviera. Spend a day at the beach, watch the sunset at the romantic old quarter of Le Suquet, or dance the night away like the rich and famous did at oh-so many film premiere parties. The city is packed with a sense of duality — where historic, European streets filled with low-key restaurants meet moments (okay, weeks) of peak social glitz and glamour — giving you the opportunity to experience this French gem any way you so choose.

Day 4: Barcelona, Spain

Among the "Ramblas" you will discover great food and beer, but you are always under the watchful eye of Gaudi, who captured and expressed the soul of Barcelona in his architecture. The city is home to an innovative contemporary art museum, the Sagrada Familia Cathedral, and Camp Nou. Also, after visiting these popular destinations, you can discover the Catalan culture. During the stop in Barcelona, take a walk down La Rambla before visiting the Picasso Museum. In the city, you can see memorable architecture everywhere. Before leaving pay a visit to the neighborhood in the port of Barcelona. Completely renovated for the Olympic Games in 1992, it has become a place filled with bars, clubs, and restaurants.

Day 5: Ibiza

Ibiza is synonymous with celebration and fun. Await the sunset to enjoy the night, the dawn and the next day. Ibiza is a tourist destination known for fun, but it's also a UNESCO World Heritage site that has a lot to offer. During the stop in the port of Ibiza, visit the Las Dalias market, where you'll find jewelry and other examples of local craftsmanship. If you want to buy home unusual items, check out Sluiz, a shop located in Santa Gertrudis that contrasts starkly with the quaint atmosphere of the village. Also visit the island of Formentera, located less than an hour from the city.

Day 6: At sea

Day 7: cagliari.

Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia, provides the perfect blend of modern life and medieval mystery on your Italian cruise. Check out the thousands of mysterious nuraghi (stone dwellings) found on the island. See Mercato di San Benedetto, and photograph the amazing museum citadel. Whilst in Cagliari, don't forget to visit Molentargius Saline Park - home to over 180 different species of birds and is famously known for its pink flamingos.

Fun Fact #1 - The Villa Clara, old mental hospital restored into the new provincial library, houses many cultural events throughout the year including the European Jazz Expo.

Fun Fact #2 - Cagliari is considered one of the greenest cities in Italy. Each inhabitant has access to 87.5 square metres of public gardens and parks.
