PLACEBO „Never Let Me Go“ Tour 2022

Mit „Beautiful James“ veröffentlichten Placebo vor einigen Wochen ihre erste Single nach fünf und mit „Never Let Me Go“ das erste Album nach neun Jahren. Im Zuge dessen hat die Londoner Alternative-Rock-Band eine Deutschlandtour für den Herbst 2022 bestätigt, u.a. in Stuttgart, Berlin und Hamburg. Gegründet Mitte der 90er Jahre, zählen Placebo zu den prägenden Bands der letzten 25 Jahre und gelten als Visionäre ihres Genres. Mit „Beautiful James“ meldet sich die Band um Sänger Brian Molko nun zurück.

Mit „Beautiful James“ meldete sich die Band um Sänger Brian Molko erstmals wieder zurück. „If the song serves to irritate the squares and the uptight, so gleefully be it. But it remains imperative for me that each listener discovers their own personal story within it – I really don’t want to tell you how to feel”, so Molko. Was aus einer Schlaflosigkeit heraus lediglich mit Fotografien und einem Songtitel begann, der ein ganz bestimmtes Gefühl bei der Band hervorrief und somit die musikalische Anmutung des Werkes vorbestimmte, resultiert in einem Song, der ebenso kraftvoll wie zart ist. Während „Beautiful James“ es sich als eine Art Botschaft des Trotzes zum Ziel gesetzt hat, nicht-heteronormative Beziehungen zu normalisieren und zu feiern, geht es in „Surrounded By Spies“ um weitere politische und gesellschaftliche Missstände. „I began writing the lyrics when I discovered my neighbors were spying on me on behalf of parties with a nefarious agenda“, so Molko, der dann anfing über die weltweite Überwachung und Einschränkung der Privatsphäre sowie die Ausbeutung unserer Daten durch multinationale Konzerne nachzudenken. „It’s a true story told through a lens of paranoia, complete disgust for modern society’s values and the deification of surveillance capitalism.”

Seit Beginn ihrer Karriere zeigen sich die Alternative-Rocker aus Großbritannien so wandlungsfähig wie kaum eine andere Band. Im Herbst 2022 dürfen wir Placebo hierzulande wieder mit neuer Musik live auf der Bühne erleben. Placebo veröffentlichen „Never Let Me Go“ am 25. März 2022

Es ist mittlerweile fünf Jahre her, dass die gefeierte Alternative-Rock Band aus London neue Singles geschweige denn ein Album veröffentlicht hat. Doch Im September 2021 war es dann endlich soweit! Nach ihrer langen Auszeit erschien am 17.09. der neue Placebo Song mit dem Titel „Beautiful James“ . Dabei feiert der Song die Normalisierung von Nicht heteronormativen Beziehungen auf eine energetische und schillernde Art und Weise. Der mit betont künstlichen Synthesizern startende Song darf dabei auch gerne irritieren.

So sagt Brian Molko selbst über den neuen Song: „ Wenn dieser Song die Kleingeister und Spießer irritierte, stört mich das nicht im Geringsten “. Dennoch soll jede*r in dem Lied seine eigene Geschichte entdecken können, da auch Molko selbst niemanden vorschreiben möchte, wie man sich zu den Liedern der Band fühlen sollte.

Es gab lange keine neue Musik von Placebo mehr. Das siebte und bislang letzte Album „Loud Like Love“ erschien 2013, sodass es mittlerweile acht Jahre her ist, dass wir ein neues Studioalbum der Gruppe hören dürfen. Doch das Warten hat nun bald ein Ende! Ihre neue Single „Beautiful James“ startet mit den Worten „Bring me back to life“ was natürlich voll und ganz passend ist, wenn man die jahrelange Auszeit der Band bedenkt.

Das neue Album war laut der Band bereits vor der Corona-Pandemie fertig. Die neuen Songs erblicken dann im März 2022 das Licht der Welt. „Never Let Me Go“ erscheint am 25. März 2022 und feiert dann im Herbst 2022 Live-Premiere in Deutschland.

Placebo haben sich vor knapp zwei Monaten mit ihrer neuen Single „Beautiful James“ zurückgemeldet und damit erstmals seit acht Jahren frische Töne. Bis es eine Albumankündigung hagelt, war es nur eine Frage der Zeit… und die ist jetzt gekommen.

Placebo – Live in der Quarterback Immobilien Arena, Leipzig

Enttäuschung beim 2017er Highfield-Festival nahe Leipzig, als die Headliner Placebo sich zwar auf dem Gelände befanden, ihr Gig aber kurzfristig wegen eines medizinischen Notfalls abgesagt wurde – „someone call the ambulance“ und der Spekulation über die Gründe waren Tür und Tor geöffnet.

Am gestrigen 19. Oktober 2022 präsentierten sich die Herren Molko und Olsdal in der Stadt hingegen fit und vital, unterhielten die gut gefüllte Arena über 90 Minuten mit ihrer aktuellen, fast ausnahmslos gespielten, Platte “ Never Let Me Go ” und Gassenhauern aus den vergangenen Jahrzehnten.

Die, die ihnen in die Mehrzweckhalle gefolgt waren, bildeten einen repräsentativen Altersdurchschnitt zwischen denjenigen, die nicht nur mit „Every You, Every Me“ ein Stück Lebensgefühl der Jahrtausendwende verbinden, und jenen, die ihrer Babyschale im elterlichen Auto eine frühkindliche musikalische Sozialisierung mit den Hymnen der Briten erfuhren.

Der Placebo-Sound blieb bis dato unverwechselbar. Obwohl ihre letzte Alben auf den Wiedererkennungswert setzten, platzierten die Musiker darauf immer einen Referenzsong, auf dem aktuellen Album ist das „Try Better Next Time“.

Das Album kletterte hierzulande auf die Pole-Position der Charts und als die ersten Töne von dessen Opener „Forever Chemicals“ den Abend eröffnen, ist man der Wucht der übereinandergestapelten Gitarren und dem wummernden Bass gern ausgeliefert.

Mit vier weiteren Musiker*innen rasen die Protagonisten ohne Punkt und Komma durch ein perfekt durchgestyltes Programm. Brian Molko, nie ein großer Entertainer, wirkt vergessen in seiner Musik, näselt melancholisch über Liebe, Bipolarität, Weltschmerz und seine “Klimadepressionen”, sieht noch immer aus, als wolle er das Übel der Welt mit Schönheit in die Flucht schlagen, sein Kollege Stefan Olsdal übernimmt derweil den Rock-Gestus und die Zuschaueranimation.

Trotz dessen, dass Olsdal das Konzert zwischenzeitlich mit leisen Tönen am Klavier kontrastiert, bleibt der Auftritt in seiner Gesamtheit – wie auch die Stimmung im Saal – auf überwiegend einheitlichem Begeisterungs-Level, ohne dabei Kreislaufinstabilitäten zu generieren.

Einen emotionalen Höhepunkt setzt „Slave To The Wage“, bei dem sich die Bewegung im Innenbereich von der vordersten Front auf die Zuhörer hinter dem Mischpult überträgt.

Dass der multipel nutzbare Veranstaltungsort nicht über die ausgefeilteste Akustik verfügt, ist bekannt, dass Placebo-Konzerte nicht die leisesten sind, auch. Beides zusammen verträgt sich leider schlecht im furiosen Hit-Finale, schluckt der breiige Klang von „Song To Say Goodbye“, „The Bitter End“ und „Infra-red“ den eigentlichen Glanz der Stücke.

Der Zugabenteil hält neben dem Tears-For-Fears-Klassiker „Shout“ und dem via „Stranger Things“ frisch reanimierten Kate-Bush-Evergreen „Running Up That Hill“ mit  „Fix Yourself“ ein Stück parat, in dem sich Brian Molko und Stefan Olsdal in einen beeindruckenden instrumentalen Rausch spielen.

Am Merchandise-Stand gibt es ein knallgelbes „Nancy-Boy“-Shirt – auch ohne diese Nummer am Mittwochabend gehört zu haben, wird die Show bei ihren Besuchern noch eine Weile Thema bleiben.

PLACEBO kündigen neues Album und Konzerte in Deutschland für 2022 an

Vor wenigen Wochen haben sich Placebo mit „ Beautiful James “ bei ihren Fans zurückgemeldet. Der ersten neuen Musik seit über fünf Jahren. Jetzt legen sie mit „ Surrounded By Spies “ eine weitere Single nach – und machen ihre Fans mit einer Ankündigung im Doppelpack glücklich. Die beiden neuen Songs sind nämlich nur ein Vorgeschmack auf das, was da in nächster Zeit noch kommen soll. Heute bestätigen Placebo nämlich auch gleich noch ihr neues Album. „ Never Let Me Go “ soll am 25. März 2022 erscheinen, so der Plan.

In den sozialen Medien und auf den zahlreichen Fan-Accounts gab es schon seit längerem Gerüchte um einen neuen Langspieler der Kult-Band. Die sind jetzt endlich und final bestätigt!

Aber damit noch nicht genug. Denn im nächsten Jahr wird die Londoner Alternative-Rock-Institution auch ausgiebig auf Tournee gehen. Und im Oktober und November steht Deutschland auf dem Plan. Insgesamt sieben Konzerte in Stuttgart, Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt am Main, Leipzig, München und Köln sind angesetzt. Die genauen Spielstätten und Daten haben wir euch hier aufgelistet.

Eine Besonderheit gibt’s allerdings zu beachten: Die Termine in Stuttgart, Berlin und Hamburg gegen bei EVENTIM bereits am Montag, den 15. November um 10 Uhr in den Vorverkauf – der Rest wird dann ab Mittwoch, den 17. November um 10 Uhr nachziehen.

Vor wenigen Tagen teaserten Placebo ihre neue Single „Surrounded By Spies“ für den 9. November an, woraufhin Fans bereits vermuteten, dass bald noch mehr neue Musik von den Briten folgen könnte. Das Erscheinungsdatum des Albums sowie die konkreten Tourdaten sind allerdings noch nicht bekannt.

Placebo enthüllten gleichzeitig das Artwork ihrer bevorstehenden, siebten LP. Das „Never Let Me Go“-Albumcover zeigt einen Strand, voller abgeschliffener Glasscherben. Die Felsen im Hintergrund deuten darauf hin, dass es sich bei dem Strand möglicherweise um den „Glass Beach“ in Kalifornien handeln könnte. Ob das Bild aber tatsächlich dort entstanden ist, das verrieten Placebo nicht.

Offizieller Vorverkauf

Die Band wies zudem darauf hin, dass das Album ab kommendem Dienstag (9. November) in ihrem offiziellen Online-Store vorbestellt werden könne und damit auch der Zugang zu Vorverkaufstickets für ihre angekündigte Tour 2022 frei geschaltet werde. Der Vorverkauf der Tickets startet am 15. November um 10:00 Uhr deutscher Zeit.

In einem Interview mit „ NME “ verriet Placebo-Sänger Brian Molko, dass die Band ihr neues Album „bereits fertig gestellt“ habe, noch bevor die Corona-Pandemie Anfang 2020 ausbrach, sich aber dennoch aufgrund der Umstände alles um zwei Jahre verzögert habe. „Ich weiß, dass es für die Fans frustrierend war. Es war sicherlich auch für uns sehr frustrierend, das endlose Warten auf neue Musik, aber immerhin gab es sie ja schon. Wir wussten, dass wir es haben.“

Placebo announces September 2022 North American Tour

The long-awaited dates see the band venture through Canada, Mexico, and the United States, including performances at the iconic Greek Theatre in Los Angeles and Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City. Tickets are on-sale this Friday at 10 am local time (Mexico City is on-sale now).

The iconic duo of Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal recently announced their eighth studio album, “Never Let Me Go” (March 25th, 2022, Rise Records). The 13-song collection, the pair’s first since 2013’s “Loud Like Love”, grapples with humanity’s multiple crises, from “Beautiful James”, a stirring anthem for non-heteronormative relationships, to “Surrounded By Spies”, an observation on tech-saturation, “Try Better Next Time”, a track that is both a statement on climate calamity and a poetic hope for the future, and the final preview of the album: “Happy Birthday in the Sky”, a moving ode to those who are no longer with us.

“I wanted to capture the confusion of what it’s like to be alive today”, explained Molko of the impetus behind “Never Let Me Go” , “the feeling of being lost, always walking in a labyrinth, continuously being overwhelmed by information and opinions”.

Placebo formed in 1994, with the London-based pair of Brian Molko (vocals & guitar) and Stefan Olsdal (bass & guitar), releasing their eponymous debut just two years later. Placebo reveal 20th anniversary world tour

Placebo world tour marks the 20th anniversary of debut album - with set to include tracks Brian Molko said he’d never play again

Placebo have confirmed a world tour that kicks off in October, marking the 20th anniversary of their self-titled debut album.

The first leg begins in Europe on October 13 and ends with nine British Isles dates in December.

And frontman Brian Molko reports the set will include tracks he’d previously vowed never to perform again.

Molko says: “I think it’s time we acknowledged what a lot of Placebo fans really want to hear. They’ve been very patient with us, since we rarely play our most commercially successful material.

“A 20-year anniversary tour seems like the right time to do so. This tour is very much for the fans and a chance for us to revisit a lot of our early material.

“If you want to see us play songs like Pure Morning and Nancy Boy – which we haven’t played in almost 10 years and may not play again – you’d better come along to these shows!”

Tickets go on sale via Ticketmaster.co.uk at 9am on March 18 (Friday) with a fan pre-sale commencing 48 hours earlier.

Placebo are an English rock band who currently consist of Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal. The band originate from London.

Placebo founders Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal happened to attend the same school, yet only met in London in 1994 when they happened to both be at Kensington Tube Station. The duo originally started their career as Ashtray Heart, Robert Schultzberg joined the band later that year and Placebo was born, named ironically due to the trend of naming bands after drugs at the time. The self titled debut album came a couple of years later and charted at number five in the UK, and still remains their highest position to date. Despite inter-band disputes and Schultzberg eventually deciding to leave the band, they achieved moderate success with the debut album and their promotional tour took them across Europe and the US and included an opening spot for David Bowie on his Outsiders Tour.

The following two albums both charted in the top ten in the UK and spawned a string of UK hits yet by the third release, they found the UK media resistant to the promotion of Placebo due to the air of pretension that was associated with lead singer Molko. Placebo played a one off gig in 2003 at Wembley arena which saw a guest appearance by The Cure frontman Robert Smith who performed a cover of 'Boys Don't Cry' with the band.

Placebo had a unique way of crossing impossible genres in a time where the British music industry was ruled by Brit Pop and Garage. Their music has been described goth rock, post punk, electro rock, grunge and college rock to name a few. They have taken inspiration from a range of artists including Echo & The Bunnymen, Nirvana, Joy Division and Pixies. They are still touring their large discography of music that they describe as "for outsiders, by outsiders".

Following the release of their seventh studio album, Placebo once again set off on tour. In December 2013 they hit the Manchester Apollo. These alt rockers may have been touring on and off since 1994 but they show no signs of slowing down.

Placebo, like the old pros that they are, took the to Apollo stage amidst an impressive show of lights to showcase their new tunes, as well as smash out some of their old classics. Front man Brian Molko strutted onstage to open with some new tracks. Retaining his trademark high-pitched vocals and androgynous look, Molko instantly got the crowd jumping along to new title track, ‘Loud Like Love.’ The instant positive reception was obviously down to the combination Molko’s infectious enthusiasm for the music and the presence of diehard Placebo fans.

The crowd had come in search of a lively evening, and the band did not disappoint, with performers and audience feeding off one another throughout. The excitement reached a crescendo with a particularly intense rendition of ‘Special K’ with Steve Hewitt giving his all on the drums and the audience screaming along.

Once labelled ‘a band for outsiders,’ due to their alternative look and sexually ambiguous lyrics and genre (they don’t really fit into any musical pigeonhole, not being quite glam rock and not quite being goth rock) Placebo actually attract quite a diverse crowd. To anyone who enjoys energetic drums, rock guitar and angsty lyrics, Placebo are worth seeing. No one could ever accuse them of giving a lacklustre performance.

Unfortunately I was deeply disappointed by what was supposed to be a great event to celebrate the band's 20th anniversary... and instead turned into an unworthy gig.

They started with Pure Morning... all good, and the fact that acoustics were far from perfect was tolerable because it always seems to be like that at loud gigs (before the guys at the mixer sort it out). Then Brian Molko said he completely lost his voice 2 weeks ago and despite he really hoped to get it back in time for these 2 London dates, voice hasn't come back... "but London we're gonna have a fucking great show anyway!!!"

Apart that they didn't. It was actually such a disappointment that I left before the encore. What's the point of listening to songs that are sang in a way that it's not a wilful variation of the traditional vocals, but it's simply a shitty version of the original because he doesn't have much voice at all? I could have been on the sodding stage then...

And from where I stood (standing, middle of the room, on the right) the acoustic remained absolutely crap throughout the gig. Too much base, too much noise really and not enough enough voice. Wow, what a disappointment. I think the decent and respectful thing to do would have been to cancel the shows and be unpopular for a few weeks before the new dates, but then really smash the place down with a worthy exhibition.

It was my third placebo's concert and it was amazing as always.

Personally I missed Fiona Brice's stage presence especially during Lazarus (one of my favorite song).

She is so "statuesque".

I have to say that Angela Chan was really good. It was clear that she was really nervous for her debut!

About her debut I didn't like that Brian didn't said a word. I mean it was her debut!!! But we all know Brian! He's not very talkative!

He spoke only once with the fans, he spoke for blaming one girl in the very front row who spent the whole concert texting and taking selfie giving her back to the stage. Still...we all know Brian! He hates cellphone and all who take photos/video during his concert and don't enjoy the concert.

Nothing new about the setlist, it's always the same, but I'd love to hear live "A Milion Little Pieces".

I was in the front rows and I had a wonderful view of the stage and the musician even when Brian asked us to stand up and dance. I knew he'd have asked something like this.

Their concerts are not concerts where you can stay sit.

The venue of the show was absolutely stunning! The "Teatro Antico di Taormina" is wonderful even when there are not events like this but for a concert it is super. At the back of the stage there wasn't any big screen so we were able to see the Etana volcano and the sea.

It might have come in for a bit of stick for its lyrically-dubious lead single, but Placebo’s last record, Loud Like Love, did little to dissuade their fervent cult fanbase’s view that they remain somewhere close to the peak of their powers. They certainly can’t be accused of being mired in the past either; where so many of their contemporaries are more than happy to tour classic albums in the entirety for the paycheck, the London trio’s recent setlist have leaned heavily towards fresh material, with just a smattering of their greatest hits to keep the casuals engaged. Sure, Brian Molko’s a little older, now, and seems to have consigned his famously hedonistic lifestyle to history, but his iconic, unusually nasal voice remins as potent as ever. Focusing more closely on mid-size venues after spending the best part of two decades in arenas, the Placebo light show remains as spectacular as before, but the music is lent an intimacy they’ve been missing for a while; when they aren’t tearing through the more incendiary side of their canon - ‘Infra-Red’, ‘Special K’ - they’re relaying the more restrained likes of ‘Running Up That Hill’ and ‘Song to Say Goodbye’ with a genuine delicacy, one that cements their status as one of Britain’s most versatile rock bands.

This was one of the best gigs I have been to and Placebo are one of the best bands I have seen ‎perform live. I wondered how they’d perform in a large arena having previously impressed me in the ‎much smaller O2 academy but boy did they step up.‎

Everything was spot on from the lighting, sound, setlist, music and performance with Brian Molko’s ‎unique brilliant voice singing every word like he meant it. ‎

A large chunk of the set was made up of less energetic songs but I found myself glued to the ‎performance and the delivery of I Know was one the best songs I have experienced live. During this ‎section enough more upbeat tracks and well known tracks were played to keep things flowing. ‎

As the final third of the show arrived, Brian Molko announced it was a birthday party and time to ‎dance. Then began an consecutive run of eight upbeat energetic tracks starting with For What It’s ‎Worth and ending with a three track encore of Teenage Angst, Nancy Boy and Infra-red with lots of ‎hand clapping, cheering, dancing and singing along. I’ve seen other reviews that have criticised the ‎order of the setlist but for me it worked perfectly. ‎

Placebo closed with their awesome cover of Running Up That Hill and rounded off a fantastic night. ‎

Champions of alt. rock, London-based three-piece Placebo have had a huge impact on the state of modern rock and cutting-edge pop. With origins in Sweden, the US, the UK, Belgium and Luxembourg, and a famously androgynous aesthetic, liberal drug use and bolshy attitude, they make you reassess themes of identity, sexuality and 'normal' before even playing a note. In interviews, frontman and guitarist Brian Molko has described the band as being “for outsiders, by outsiders.” Flinging out hits like rice at weddings, Placebo's shows are transcendent revelry. “Nancy Boy”, “Bruise Pristine”, “Every You, Every Me”, “Pure Morning”, “Special K”, “Protège-Moi”, “Infra-red”, “Slave To The Wage”, “Teenage Angst”... the list is essentially endless, and any set they thunder out is guaranteed to feature some of the finest alt. rock tunes ever written, sung by one of the strangest voices ever. Showered in greens, blues, whites and yellows, Placebo gigs are also rife with cascading colour, belying their goth-y get-up. They emit a ritual-esque vibe as they whip through stunning paeans before fans wielding an almost cultish affection. Offer yourself up onto the sacrificial altar and let Placebo transport you to a higher plane.

Placebo are great performing artists. They came onstage in a reasonable amount of time (10 minutes from the opening act leaving the stage) they played a range of songs from different CDs including surprise hit "Running up that Hill," during their Philly show. Unfortunately Brian interacted with the crowd very minimally despite it being their first show on this tour. I was a bit disappointed to not see the stage presence I am used to seeing though YouTube. The band had a polite side note, proclaiming that we should enjoy the show and refrain from filming. The sound was great, the crowd was excited and the lights were bright. So much so that Brian took the liberty of kicking two lights that were shinning in his face right off the stage. He later apologized for his "pestilent eruption" much to the giggles of the audience. Guitar picks and drum sticks were given away and the band all did their signature bow at the end of the show. after another ten minutes the band returned for an encore. overall a great show, but would never return to the venue. A very strong and professional performance from the well established band. Brian (Molko) had one little rant at a woman bang in the centre of the audience who was constantly taking photos and blinding him with the flash , which was soon dealt with . I've seen some performers who would of made much more of a fuss than this.

Placebo performed a good collection of new and old hits ranging their back catalog with the exception of Nancy boy which they never perform live any more . They also performed their version of Kate Bush's running up the hill which was greatly received . One of the last bands from the Brit Pop era who have managed to continuesly bang out excellent albums whilst holding on to their original audience and picking up newcomers along the way . Long may they rule cool .

Great show. Great start with the never released video for Every me Every You followed by a very nice rendition of Pure Morning. But then, it got a bit slow, Brian Molko seemed to have sound issues, his voice wasn't always on point and the more recent songs didn't seem to please the crowd as much. But then, from Too Many Friends on, he seemed to loosen up, the crowd began cheering more and the song was really great, great live performance, great voice, better sound. The energy only went up until the end and it was a really great show all in all with a great Molko. Stefan was, as always, really classy and rockstar-y and they really are a great rock act.

News: Placebo Announce 2022 Headline Tour

Following news of their long-awaited 8th studio album Never Let Me Go, Placebo have today announced a major headline UK tour for November and December 2022 including two nights at London’s O2 Academy Brixton. Nine years on from the release of their last outing Loud Like Love, Never Let Me Go takes Placebo to a thrilling new breadth of sound and style. In September, Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal resurfaced from a long hibernation to release their first single in five years – and first from the new album – ‘Beautiful James’.
