6 top day trips from Chennai for steamy southern adventures
Jan 26, 2022 • 7 min read
Chennai is fascinating and frenetic, but it's easy to escape to calmer spaces by bus or train © gnanistock / Shutterstock
Often overlooked by the crowds who flock to Delhi and Mumbai, fascinating, foodie Chennai is the gateway to India ’s steamy south. Within easy striking distance of the Tamil Nadu capital are timeless temple towns, coastal nature reserves, old colonial outposts and beach resorts that are as popular for monsoon watching as sitting on the sand.
Like other big Indian hubs, Chennai is fast-paced and frenetic, as you might expect from a city of eight million people. And the city can swelter like a tandoori oven in the tropical heat, particularly in the run-up to the June–September monsoon. For optimum conditions for exploring, come between November and March during the mild Indian winter.
Most visitors are happy to devote a few days to Chennai's food, markets and towering temples, but when the crowds overwhelm, it's easy to escape to quieter spots along the coast and inland by bus or train. Here's a guide to the top day trips from Chennai.
Try surfing, Indian-style, at Kovalam (Covelong)
Just 30km (18.6 miles) south of Chennai, the slumbering fishing village of Kovalam (Covelong) – not to be confused with the Keralan beach town of the same name – has found its mojo as Tamil Nadu ’s favorite surf spot, helped by powerful beach and reef breaks that perform best from June to September. In winter, it's worth coming just for the calm mood and the beach.
The agreeably informal surf scene at Kovalam owes its existence to Indian surfing pioneer Murthy Megavan, who discovered the waves as a child and learned to surf on old wooden planks before borrowing his first board from ‘surfing swami’ Jack Hebner.
Today, he runs the Covelong Point surf school, close to the village’s best right-hand break. As well as surf classes, you can learn to paddleboard, kayak and windsurf, and tune in, flex up, and rock out at the school's Surf.Yoga.Music Festival in August or September (check to see if it has resumed following the pandemic).
How to get to Kovalam: Kovalam is accessible via the hourly 599 city bus from Chennai’s T Nagar Bus Depot (one hour), which runs on to Mamallapuram. Routes 109 and 119 also pass this way.
Discover a riot of carvings in temple-tastic Mamallapuram (Mahabalipuram)
Just a short bus ride south from the center of Chennai, Mamallapuram (Mahabalipuram) was once the principal seaport of the powerful Pallava kingdom, whose rulers filled the shoreline with some of India’s most eye-catching temples and shrines. The town is still a lively hub for stone-carving today.
Thanks to its fine collection of temples and shrines, this one-time fishing village has grown into a lively pilgrim center, traveler hub and beach retreat. Right on the water, you’ll find the twin-spired Shore Temple , a glorious stack of carved tiers which once opened directly onto the sand, and Arjuna’s Penance , a house-sized boulder carved with scenes from the Hindu epic, the Mahabharata .
Just inland, the rocky outcrop of Mamallapuram Hill is crowned by a riot of temples, carvings and balancing boulders, linked by well-worn walking paths. After exploring, cool down with a surf class at Mumu Surf School , or a backpacker bite at Le Yogi , before jumping on the bus back to Chennai.
Getting there: Bus 599 runs hourly throughout the day from Chennai’s T Nagar Bus Depot, taking up to two hours, depending on the traffic. In the opposite direction, the bus runs till 8:40pm, giving you plenty of time to explore.
Get in a flap over flamingos at Pulicat Lake
From December to January, the brackish lagoon at Pulicat attracts legions of long-legged, shrimp-loving visitors, and a dedicated crowd of bird-watchers intent on spotting them. At the height of the winter season, the colony of greater flamingos in the Pulicat Lake Bird Sanctuary can swell to 15,000 birds, painting the waters pink.
The lagoon is also a migratory stop for spot-billed pelicans, herons, egrets, spoonbills and storks. Flamingos can be spotted from many points along the banks, including the road between Sullurupeta and Sriharikota.
Birds aren’t the only reason to come to Pulicat – the village is home to several impressive temples, a lighthouse that can sometimes be climbed, an atmospheric Dutch-colonial cemetery (complete with carved skeletons guarding the gates) and the ruins of Fort Geldria, the first Dutch outpost in India.
How to get to Pulicat: Pulicat is 60km (37 miles) north of Chennai. The best way to get here is to hire a taxi for the day in Chennai, so you can roam around easily once you arrive; allow 1½ hours each way for the journey. To come by public transport, take city bus 595 from Chennai’s Toll Gate Bus Depot or bus 558B from Moolakadal (two to three hours).
Temple-hop through the centuries in Kanchipuram
If you’ve seen the artistry the Pallava kings put into their seaport at Mamallapuram, you’ll be perfectly primed for a trip to their capital, Kanchipuram . This inland temple town, 80km (50 miles) southwest of Chennai, overflows with extravagant, hand-carved temples, whose stones were slotted together by a succession of Hindu dynasties from the 4th to the 11th centuries.
On the outskirts of town, the Kailasanantha Temple features the same angular tiers and wall-topping Nandi (bull) statues as Mamallapuram’s Shore Temple, but on an even grander scale. Back in the center, the Kamakshi Amman Temple and Ekambareshwara Temple are classic examples of the Dravidian temple style, crowned by soaring gopurams (temple towers) covered in a writhing panoply of deities. However, only Hindus can enter the inner sanctums.
Pause for a fiery south Indian thali (plate meal) or dosa (rice and lentil pancake) at Hotel Saravana Bhavan before you hightail it back to Chennai.
How to get to Kanchipuram: Suburban trains rumble out from Chennai’s Egmore station every hour or so (two hours) until the early evening. Alternatively, squeeze onto one of the frequent but crowded public buses from Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus.
Find fancy fortifications in Vellore
To consolidate their control over the region, European colonial powers built great forts all over southern India, and in some cases simply took over existing fortifications built by local rulers. Ringed by 2km (1.2 miles) of moat-flanked walls, the imposing fort at Vellore was at various times Hindu, Muslim and Christian, as wave after wave of conquerors passed through its battlements.
Wandering around the calm, dusty interior today, you’ll find Muslim mosques and pavilions, a tidy little Christian church and the sky-piercing Jalakantesvara Temple, with its gleaming white gopuram (temple tower) dominating the skyline. Appropriately, in 1806, this was the setting for the first rebellion by Indian troops against their British commanders.
Otherwise, Vellore lies off the mainstream circuit, which provides another reason to visit: to sample life in an Indian town that doesn’t rely on tourism for its existence. The local branch of Hotel Saravana Bhavan serves up a vegetarian feast of idlis (steamed rice cakes), dosas and thalis.
How to get to Vellore: Buses zip regularly between Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus and Vellore (up to three hours). Air-con Volvo buses are more comfortable than the crowded public buses. Alternatively, take the fast train from Chennai Central (2½ hours).
Relish the French flair of colonial Puducherry (Pondicherry)
Alongside the British and Portuguese, the French established their own colonial outpost on the coast of India at Puducherry – formerly Pondicherry – and the streets of this curious outpost of la belle France are still dotted with European-style villas, coffee shops and cathedrals. The government of France ruled this tiny corner of Tamil Nadu until 1954, when locals voted overwhelmingly to become part of India following a vote of independence.
Today, the main appeal is wandering the unmistakably European-influenced streets, chilling out in cafes and peeking into pastel-colored French-era churches. Almost everyone takes a side-trip to the Auroville Ashram , 12km (7.5 miles) northwest of town, which attracted a veritable army of spiritual travelers in the 1960s. Auroville still hosts more than 1500 foreign devotees, who follow a pantheist doctrine of peace, universality and divine consciousness.
With the long journey time, you might want to stop overnight. Mango-yellow Les Hibiscus combines pocket-friendly rates with a classic Puducherry setting in a handsome old colonial villa in the French Quarter, or try nearby Villa Shanti for a top-end version of the same idea, executed with real panache by two French architects. Whether you stay or come for the day, grab a croissant at Baker Street , or a European-flavoured salad ‘thali’ at Domus , set behind a hip design store on Suffren St.
How to get to Puducherry: Despite its fame, Puducherry is served by just two daily trains from Chennai’s Egmore station (four hours); very regular buses complete the same journey in a similar time from Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus.

Like any other coastal city, upon arrival, Chennai greets you with all its heated glory. Previously known as Madras, Chennai is a melting pot of various cultures which are reminiscent of the past and also embraces modernism with open arms. Though Chennai has its fair share of tourist sites, for those who are locals, summer time escape from the metropolitan city offer some much needed respite. So here is a list of the top 10 weekend getaways from Chennai for those who want to go a little light on their pocket this summer.
1. Pondicherry
The French left the country but what they delivered in the process was the quaint town of Pondicherry. Popularly referred to as “Pondy”, Pondicherry is divided into two parts, the French quarters, displaying vintage style colonial buildings mostly painted in white and mustard and the Tamil quarters, representing an older vibe with its customary air of gajras and mogra flowers, elaborate Nagada style temples and it’s smaller and more populated roads. Pondicherry is recognised for the existence of the Sri Aurobindo and Mother’s Ashram which are characterised by the colour grey, in the French quarters. Pondy serves as a great holiday for budget travellers because there is so much to see, and almost everything is just a hop skip and a jump away from each other.
How to Get There: There are 42 trains from Chennai to Pondy in maximum 4 hours. But we’d suggest you drive down to Pondicherry from Chennai using the scenic ECR (East coast road) even if it does take longer, the beautiful vistas along the way are completely worth it.
Where to Stay: Pondicherry has a plethora of mid- range and hotels and guest houses such as Hotel Green palace, Hotel Citi Business and Hotel Annamalai International offer good service and facilities on an average rate of Rs.1000-3000 per night.
Yercaud Meaning “Lake Forest” is a popular hill station located in the Eastern Ghats. When one thinks of Yercaud, all that comes to mind are the mountains of verdant green upon which one can take numerous treks to find hidden natural treasures. Speaking of natural treasures, the Yercaud Lake is another noteworthy tourist destination along with the Killiyur falls and Lady’s seat which is one of the many viewpoints that provide panoramic views of the surrounding undulating hills. This small town is also a major source of Coffee (first grown in Grange estate, another place worth visiting) various fruits, spices and wood.
How to Get There: Yercaud is situated in Salem district. The nearest airports are Salem Airport at a distance of 38 km. The nearest railway station is Salem – 38 km.
Where to Stay: Wellington Hill Resort, Sri Durga Residency and Grange resort allow the budget traveller to stay in Yercaud at an average price of Rs.1000-3500 per night. Or you could opt to stay in a camp set up like Truenature Wilderness Stay which falls into a similar price bracket.
Much like its other hilly counterpart (Yercaud), all you see is green all around. Green dew-kissed hills going on all the way till the eyes can see. Coorg serves as one of the most popular hill stations of India and it’s probably because of its tranquil environs, amalgamated with an element of adventure- read trekking across the verdant never ending hills. Thinking about trekking in Coorg? Thadiyandamol, the district’s highest peak with its surrounding vistas is where you must go for sure.
How to Get There: Coorg is easily accessible by road from most cities in southern and coastal Karnataka, and northern Kerala. Virajpet, approximately 30km from Kakkabe, is a larger town with good bus connectivity. Mangalore and Kozhikode (both around 165km), and Mysore (about 110km), are the nearest airports.
Where to Stay: There are many great hotels and guesthouses such as Stay Simple Vista Madikeri, Capitol Village Resort and Yedamakky Cottage give every kind of basic amenity within Rs.1500-2500 per night.
4. Thekkady
Thekkady is located on the Tamil Nadu- Kerala Border, is considered a heaven for coffee and natural spices. Thekkady is also known for its proximity to Chellar Kovil which has a lot of picturesque waterfalls and cascades. Thekkady is however more popularly as the location of Periyar National park. The wildlife sanctuary was declared a tiger reserve in 1978. The greatest attractions of Periyar are the herds of wild elephants, deer and bison that come down to drink in the Mullaperiyar Lake. The sanctuary can be accessed through a trekking, boating or jeep safari.
How to Get There: The nearest railway station to Thekkady is in Kottayam, located 114 kilometres away. You can hire a cab from Kottayam to get to Thekkady, or even board a government or private run bus.
Where to Stay: Budget travellers would be happy to find good facilities and services in Periyar Nest Resort, Seasons Thekkady, Michael’s Inn and Coffee Routes where the average price is Rs.1000-3000 per night.
5. Rameshwaram
Rameshwaram is considered one of holiest sites of pilgrimage in India and is a part of the Char Dham Yatra(Badrinath, Puri, Dwarka, Rameshwaram). Legend says that Rameshwaram was the point of conjunction where Lord Ram built a bridge to Sri Lanka to save Sita. In modern times, Rameshwaram is known for the esteemed Ramanathaswamy temple which has the largest temple corridor in India. When driving across the Pamban Bridge to Rameshwaram, one must stop just to enjoy the cool sea breeze which is sure to re-energise you to return to the city after a much needed holiday.
How to Get There: Rameshwaram is connected with all major cities like Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai, Trichy and Tirunelveli. City Buses are also available including night services for those who wish to travel during the night and maximise their day.
Where to Stay: For a destination like Rameshwaram that is frequented by tourists in massive numbers hotels are geared to give all basic amenities for low rates. Hotel Queen Plaza, Jiwan Residency and Daiwik Hotel operate within the Rs.1500-3000 window within which they guarantee complete customer satisfaction.
6. Ooty
Another colonial favourite, Udhamangalam or Ooty is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the country and you will see why. Cradled in the Nilgiri Hills, Ooty renders the viewer breathless with spectacular green vistas as far as the eyes can see, while the cool breeze is a refreshing change from the city’s dust and smog. This previously British town still carries constant reminders of the inhabitants of the past. Said to be the Birthplace of Snooker, Ooty offers travellers plenty of recreational activities such as horse-riding, cricket and an array of adventure sports including hang-gliding and trekking. There are many tourist sites to visit but rest assured, if it’s a peaceful, relaxing holiday you want, that is what you’ll get in Ooty.
How To Get There: 535 kilometres from Chennai, Ooty is well connected by road. The nearest airport is Coimbatore (96 kilometres). However The Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR) is one of the oldest mountain railways in India, operates from Coonoor, travelling by which is an opportunity of a lifetime.
Where To Stay: The Nahar Nilgiris Hotel, United-21 Paradise, Greenyards Cottage and Vinayaga Inn offers exceptional service at Rs. 1000-3000 approximately per night along with free WiFi (In select hotels). These hotels also come with the added advantage of stunning views.
7. Chidambaram
The legendary city of Chidambaram is a melting pot of various cultures and the city sure looks it. Most popularly known for the Chidambaram temple in the heart of the city, it’s a testament to the glory of the Chola dynasty. Few of the fifty maths (monasteries) that once stood here remain, but the temple itself is still a hive of activity and hosts numerous festivals. Chidambaram revolves around the Chidambaram Temple and the busy market area that surrounds it. The town also has a large student population, because of the Annamalai University, a centre of Tamil studies. Decked with grand temples which display sculptural and architectural splendour, this town perfectly captures the colours and the vibrancy of South India.
How To Get There: There are daily express trains to and from Chennai. Chidambaram is a long-ish drive away from Chennai (335km), but you will find that the destination and the drive are totally worth it.
Where To Stay: Hotel Grand Palace Stay, Rk Residency and Arudhra residency are all available between 1000-1500 rupees average per night. Book at the earliest as crowds are always thronging this holy destination.
8. Kolli Hills
Haven’t heard of it? Well that’s because it’s one of the most beautiful and untouched places of the South. The lack of commercialisation ensures that travellers get a taste of peace and serenity, away from the crowd. Kolli hills is replete with all things characteristically south Indian, from the coffee and spice plantations to the emerald valleys accompanied by the dark hills and the cool weather. A must-see tourist spot is the Agaya-Gangai Falls near the Arappaleeswarar Temple, a walk to which is pretty steep – 1000 steps steep to be precise! But it is totally worth the effort. Kolli Hills thrives on its unexploited beauty that ensures you leave feeling fresh and rejuvenated.
How To Get There: There are 70 hairpin bends on the road to Kolli hills which is a definite attraction for thrill-seekers! NH45 from Chennai leads to Kolli Hills after a change of route from Salem. The nearest railway station is Salem, 100kms from Kolli Hills, which is easily connected to Chennai.
Where To Stay: Due to the lack of civilization in Kolli Hills, there are few stay options available, hence book in advance to avoid problems with accommodation later. Kolli Hills Resort is one of few hotels in the region providing services with options for budget travellers everywhere.
9. Mysore
Previously a princely state, Mysore still embodies the royal and cultural abundance of Karnataka, earning it the title of the “Cultural Capital of Karnataka”. Mysore is known for its palaces, the most famous being the Mysore palace, the residence of the erstwhile emperor of Mysore. Palaces aren’t all this city has to offer in terms of tourist attractions. Mysore is the home of Mysore paintings which are an elaborate representation of Mysore’s cultured royalty. Those with a sweet tooth will especially enjoy what Mysore has to offer in terms of mithai. The Mysore Pak is a famous sweet dish that will leave you wanting more with each ghee and jaggery filled bite. For those on a budget, there’s a lot to experience in Mysore.
How To Get There: There’s a direct train between Chennai and Mysore. It’s best to take the Shatabdi Express from Chennai to Mysore that takes 7 hours to get you there. Or you could save further by taking the direct bus that takes you to Mysore from Chennai in 11hrs, leaving you with a bigger budget to spend from while shopping in Mysore.
Where To Stay: Aishwarya Suites, Sunflower Hotel, Hotel Roopa and Hotel KVC International are available at Rs. 1000-2000 at an average per night which make sure you have a good experience while staying in Mysore.
10. Munnar
Munnar meaning “three rivers” is quite literally cradled between the rivers, Kundala, Mudrapuzha and Nallathanni, ensuring it is a splendidly refreshing little hill station on the Western Ghats. Munnar serves as a popular centre of adventure sports like trekking, paragliding, rock-climbing and hang-gliding. Don’t be surprised if on one of your nature walks you happen to come across some wildlife. Nothing dangerous but Munnar is home to various endemic species like the Sambhar Deer, Nilgiri Langur, Nilgiri Tahr and the Wood-Pigeon, making it a haven for bird-watchers as well. Munnar and its lush environs prove to be a brilliant weekend destination from Chennai. Senate Approves Bill to Reauthorize F.A.A. and Improve Air Travel
The Senate also passed a short-term extension of the current F.A.A. law to give the House time to clear the longer-term package early next week.
By Kayla Guo
Reporting from the Capitol
The Senate on Thursday passed legislation to reauthorize federal aviation programs for the next five years and put in place new safety measures and consumer protections for passengers, at a moment of intense uncertainty and disruption in the air travel system.
The bill , which still must win final approval in the House before becoming law, would provide more than $105 billion to the Federal Aviation Administration and another $738 million to the National Transportation Safety Board for airport modernization, technology programs and safety. It would also bolster the hiring and training of air traffic controllers, codify airlines’ refund obligations to passengers, ensure fee-free family seating and strengthen protections for passengers with disabilities.
“Aviation safety has been front of mind for millions of Americans recently, and this F.A.A. bill is the best thing Congress can do to give Americans the peace of mind they deserve,” Senator Chuck Schumer of New York, the majority leader, said on the Senate floor on Thursday evening.
It passed in an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 88 to 4, just one day before the current law is scheduled to lapse. The Senate also unanimously approved a short-term extension to allow time for the House to take up and clear the longer-term package next week, a step that would send it to President Biden.
The legislation is a bipartisan compromise negotiated over months by the Senate and House committees with jurisdiction over the F.A.A., after Congress authorized several short-term extensions of the agency when lawmakers failed to meet earlier deadlines. The House passed its version of the bill almost a year ago in a lopsided vote of 351 to 69.
Senator Maria Cantwell of Washington, chairwoman of the Commerce Committee, celebrated the bill’s provisions on consumer protections, aviation safety, air traffic controllers, airport infrastructure and work force development on the floor after passage.
“This is a big moment for aviation,” Ms. Cantwell said. “We have had safety issues and concerns that we need to make a big investment. This legislation is that investment — in safety standards, in protecting consumers and advancing a work force and technology that will allow the United States to be the gold standard in aviation.”
Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, the top Republican on the Commerce Committee, said: “This legislation is a strong, bipartisan, bicameral bill that includes hundreds of priorities for senators and representatives, both Republican and Democrat. This bill gives the FAA the safety tools it needs at a critical time.”
As one of the few remaining bills considered a must-pass item this year, the F.A.A. package, which prompted several regional disputes, became a magnet for dozens of amendments and policy riders that threatened to delay it in the Senate.
With the legislation threatening to stall, the House on Wednesday approved a one-week extension for the F.A.A. before leaving Washington for the weekend. The Senate followed suit on Thursday, steering around lingering disputes that had threatened to scuttle the effort and cause a brief lapse for the F.A.A.
The debate came at a time of acute uncertainty about the aviation system, which has had a recent spate of concerning episodes such as dangerous near collisions on runways, plane malfunctions and thousands of flight delays and cancellations.
It was unclear for much of Thursday whether the Senate would be able to push through the legislation and the extension, as senators demanded votes on amendments or threatened to block speedy passage. No amendments were ultimately brought to a vote.
The most intense regional fight was over a provision in the bill that would add five round-trip long-haul flights out of Ronald Reagan National Airport outside Washington. Proponents, which include Delta Air Lines, have said they want to expand access to the nation’s capital and increase competition.
The proposal incensed lawmakers representing the area , who argued that the airport maintains the busiest runway in the country and cannot support additional flights. Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner of Virginia and Benjamin L. Cardin and Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, all Democrats, filed an amendment to strike the new flights.
Mr. Kaine and Mr. Warner threatened to hold the bill up if they did not receive a vote. But Mr. Cruz blocked an effort to bring up a compromise amendment that would have given the transportation secretary the final say on new flights after considering any effects they would have on delays and passenger safety.
“The Senate abdicated its responsibility to protect the safety of the 25 million people who fly through D.C.A. every year,” Mr. Kaine and Mr. Warner said in a statement. “Some of our colleagues were too afraid to let the experts make the call. They didn’t want to show the American people that they care more about a few lawmakers’ desire for direct flights than they care about the safety and convenience of the traveling public. That is shameful and an embarrassment.”
The senators from Virginia and Maryland were the only votes against the bill.
Another group of senators failed to secure a vote on a proposal to halt the Transportation Security Administration’s expansion of facial recognition technology at airports and restrict it where it is in use.
Senators had also proposed adding a number of unrelated bills, including one that would compensate people harmed by exposure to the nation’s nuclear weapons program , legislation to fully fund the replacement of the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, and a credit card competition measure. Senators Marsha Blackburn, Republican of Tennessee, and Richard Blumenthal, Democrat of Connecticut, were pushing for a vote on their bill to protect minors online into Thursday. None of them made it into the final product.
An earlier version of this article misstated the name of the bridge in Baltimore that collapsed. It is the Francis Scott Key Bridge, not the Francis Key Scott Bridge.

IPL 2024, GT vs CSK Match Highlights: Gujarat Titans beat CSK by 35 runs
G T vs CSK IPL 2024, Gujarat Titans vs Chennai Super Kings Match Highlights: Despite some wonderful batting performances by Daryl Mitchell and Moeen Ali, CSK fell short of 35 runs from the target of 232 set by Gujarat Titans. CSK started off their chase poorly with losing three early wickets after which the target was always going to be difficult. Middle and lower order batsmen tried hard but fell short by 35 runs. Gujarat Titans score two points from the match while CSK will have to fight hard for a place in the playoffs.
With splendid batting performance by Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan's 210-run opening partnership, highest ever opening partnership in IPL history, Gujarat Titans have scored 231/2 in their 20 overs. Chennai Super Kings need to chase 232 in order to win the match and secure two points to keep their playoffs hope alive.
Ruturaj Gaikwad wins the toss for CSK and decides to bowl first against the GT. Gujarat Titans are hosting Chennai Super Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad today. The night match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM IST.
Right now, Chennai Super Kings are mirroring the journey of Gujarat Titans at the onset of the season. They've faced a major setback with the loss of their entire pace attack, a component vital to their quest for a playoff berth. Matheesha Pathirana, Mustafizur Rahman, and to a lesser extent Deepak Chahar had been instrumental, boasting the best economy rate in the middle overs (8) and the second-best at the death (10.43) in IPL 2024.
Similarly, GT heavily leaned on Mohammed Shami, but his absence due to an ankle injury and subsequent surgery has left a void. Despite experimenting with alternatives like Azmatullah Omarzai, Spencer Johnson, and Josh Little, GT has failed to fill the gap. Fast bowlers, especially those with unorthodox actions or exceptional skills with the new ball or variations, often serve as game-changers. Their absence poses a significant challenge.
Unfortunately, GT hasn't managed to overcome this hurdle. Another loss on Friday could spell the end of their tournament. In contrast, CSK must secure a victory. They are better positioned to mount a playoff campaign and perhaps even reach the final, adding a poetic twist as it coincides with the venue where Mahendra Singh Dhoni once expressed his desire to conclude his career. Wouldn't that be a fitting narrative?
Previous meeting
Back in March, which feels like eons ago, doesn't it? The rematch of the 2023 final favored CSK , with Shivam Dube unleashing a whirlwind half-century, and their fast bowlers standing firm, denying GT the chance to unearth a hero from the shadows as they often did before. CSK's total of 206 for 6 easily eclipsed GT's 143 for 8.

An Excellent Pair of High-Rise Denim Shorts for 25 Percent Off
Everybody should own denim shorts , but finding a pair that fits properly tends to be something of a lifelong quest. At least that’s how former Strategist writer Latifah Miles felt until she made a rather surprising discovery in an Abercrombie & Fitch changing room two summers ago. It turns out that the former high-school mall brand has pivoted to designing elegant (and size-inclusive) staples, including these high-rise “Dad shorts,” which are particularly flattering on tall curvy bodies . Usually $65, they’re currently discounted by 25 percent right now, bringing the price down to $49.
As Miles writes in her review , the high-waisted cut of these shorts fits snuggly over the belly button, and the length is “moderate but not frumpy, falling just shy of fingertip length.” She says it is easy to get the shorts on over her hips and thighs, and the leg openings are neither too baggy nor too tight. With just a sprinkle of stretch, the denim “has a rigid feel, and the fly lies nice and flat.” And just imagine all of the time you’ll save now that your lifelong quest is over.
The Strategist is designed to surface the most useful, expert recommendations for things to buy across the vast e-commerce landscape. Some of our latest conquests include the best acne treatments , rolling luggage , pillows for side sleepers , natural anxiety remedies , and bath towels . We update links when possible, but note that deals can expire and all prices are subject to change.
