Why Choose Us

Speyside distillery tour from inverness – itinerary.

The Speyside Distillery Tour from Inverness begins with a drive into Morayshire. We know it as Malt Whisky Country due to the high numbers of distilleries found here. You pass through the tiny village of Dallas which is where the famous city in Texas got its name. As we enter Speyside our first distillery visit will be either Glenfiddich or Glen Moray. Next we may visit the Speyside Cooperage. Later we visit Glen Grant followed by time for a photo at scenic Craigellachie Bridge. One distillery in the day may require to be a tasting, rather than a tour, because of time. If our favoured distilleries (above) are fully booked, we will work to find you alternatives. The earlier you book the more likely that you’ll get the chosen distilleries.

Dallas is a pretty one-street village in the Morayshire Hills. One of our guides had a lot of fun taking Ken Kercheval to visit it, because he played Cliff Barnes from “Dallas” the TV show). We also see the ruined remains of Dallas Castle.

Glen Moray Distillery

Glen Moray Distillery in the city of Elgin was founded in 1897. This Speyside distillery is known for innovation such as the release of two expressions of Glen Moray matured in Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc Casks respectively. Depending on time Glen Moray offer either a tour or tastings.

The Speyside Cooperage

The Speyside Cooperage is located in Craigellachie. If time permits, then a visit to the viewing gallery to see the barrel-makers at work is a memorable experience. There is also an exhibition, film and café. The entry ticket also entitles the bearer to a tasting of the liqueur of the day.

Glen Grant Distillery

Campari now own the Glen Grant Distillery in the town of Rothes and because of this Glen Grant has become the biggest selling single malt in Italy. The Grant brothers (known for their moonshine activities) built this Speyside distillery in 1840 becuase they had decided to go legitimate. There are lovely woodland gardens here.

Craigellachie Bridge

The famous civil engineer, Thomas Telford, built Craigellachie Bridge (between 1812 and 1815) to span the River Spey. It is the oldest surviving cast-iron bridge in Scotland and considered one of the finest in Britain. The poet laureate, Robert Southey, exclaimed that it was “beautifully light, in a situation where the utility of lightness is instantly perceived”.

Glenfiddich Distillery

William Grant set up Glenfiddich, a Speyside distillery, in Dufftown in 1886. We call Dufftown the Malt Whisky Capital of the World because there are still six working malt whisky distilleries in the town. Glenfiddich, which means “the valley of the deer” is still owned by the Grant family today, and is the best selling malt whisky in the world.

Speyside Distillery Tour from Inverness – Price

£590 plus distillery entry fees.

Speyside Distillery Tour from Inverness – Departure

The tour can depart from your Inverness accommodation, or from any transport hub you prefer, such as bus station, train station or airport. You tell us, and we’ll be there.

A yellow and white-coloured building partially obscured by scaffolding is across a road, and behind a low wall. Behind the building rise a range of snow covered mountains wreathed in cloud. Bits of blue sky are showing through the cloud.

West Coast and Highland Distillery Tour

We are at the entrance to a yellow building with a tin roof, and a tall brick chimney at the right hand end. A tarred road with speed bump and stop barrier leads up the left of the picture, to it from our location. It is hard to see more, due to the line of leafless trees lining the road. A distant snow-capped mountain rises behind the building. In the foreground, right of centre, is a grey granite block gatepost, with a sign that says "Welcome to Ben Nevis Distillery"

West Coast Whisky Distillery Tour

A barrel stack is in front of us. The barrels are on their sides. The top row has three barrels, plain ends. The middle row has four barrels each with a letter on it. The bottom row has five barrels each with a letter on it. The letters spell the words Glen Moray. Behind the barrel stack is a stone built house of two storeys. A door is centrally placed on the ground floor, with a window either side, and two dormer windows above.

Highland and Speyside Distillery Tour

A surfaced path runs up the centre of the image between flower beds to a very new looking orange-brick built 2-storey building with the word Glenkinchie on it. There are trees behind and off to the rightThe sky above is light blue.

Highland and Lowland Distillery Tour

There are three 6 foot tall advertising boards which each describe a different whisky from Glenmorangie Distillery on our Highland Distillery Tour from Inverness. We are inside a warehouse, and in the foreground, on their sides are three barrels, one at the foot of each advertising banner.

Highland Distillery Tour from Inverness

Can each person in the party pay separately?

Do I need to make all my distillery choices in advance?

Yes. Booked experiences such as whisky distillery tours require to be reserved in advance. We are happy to help and advise, to ensure that you get a timeslot that works for our tour..

What will we be doing for lunch?

You are responsible for paying for your own food & drink during your tour. Lunch could be in a café, pub, restaurant or even a picnic at a beauty spot. Your guide can discuss and advise on options when you meet them.

Will I need cash with me?

Most places will accept Visa or MasterCard and some will accept American Express. It is always prudent, though, to bring a little cash with you for unexpected eventualities. You will need GBP, not Euros or Dollars.

benromach distillery

Utilising water from the Romach hills this handcrafted Speyside Single Malt has been produced since 1898. Three distillers oversee every second of the intricate distillation process to produce an award winning lightly smokey balanced single malt whisky. Enjoy an informative tour at Speyside’s smallest working distillery, producing just 200,000 litres a year! After a dram time to enjoy the fine countryside enroute to the Speyside Cooperage.

Speyside Whisky Tour from Inverness speyside cooperage

Right in the heart of the Speyside Whisky Trail is the Speyside Cooperage, an essential place to visit. This Uk’s only working cooperage, here you and see first hand this ancient craft being completed. Using American Oak the Speyside cooperage has been producing casks since 1947. Each year 150,000 casks are produced or repaired using traditional methods, the majority are used by nearby Speyside Whisky distilleries. Marvel at the highly skilled work being carried out in front of you or even try it yourself! Next up one of our all time favourites, The Glenfiddich Distillery.

glenfiddich distillery

Glenfiddich in Gaelic means ‘Valley of the Deer’ hence the stag symbol found on all bottles. The Glenfiddich Distillery was founded in 1886 and is the worlds best selling single malt whisky. Here enjoy a film at their very own cinema, learning about the history and production here at Glenfiddich. The bar here has greatest selection of Glenfiddich to be found, so a perfect place to enjoy a dram or two! Just around the corner is Balvenie Castle ruin and well worth a quick look.

balvenie castle

Balvenie Castle was built in the 12th century and became a Jacobite garrison during the 1715 rebellion. Abandoned in 1720 it subsequently was used by Goverment troops as a base in 1746. Nowadays Historic Scotland manage it as a visitor attraction. Back to the whisky now and the Aberlour Distillery.

aberlour distillery

Aberlour Distillery has won awards for ‘Best Visitor Attraction’ so a great place to visit in the heart of Speyside. Producing since 1880 they now produce a range of ages including a rare 30 year old 1970 malt and a cask strength release with no age statement. The award winning visitor centre opened in 2002. Now on to the final distillery of the day The Glenlivet Distillery, a cracker to save for last!

glenlivet distillery

The Glenlivet Distillery single malt is also known as ‘The Spirit of the Glen’. It can only be produced in one particular spot of a single glen. This distillery is large scale production with 6 million bottles being produced each year. The exhibition here tells the amazing story going back to 1824.
