Star Trek Continues

The series was developed by a team of entertainment professionals led by Mignogna, Lisa Hansell, and James Kerwin who shared a fan interest in Star Trek . The idea was to complete the five-year mission set up by Star Trek: The Original Series (which was three years long but covered four years) by focusing on the final year. With the help of Kickstarter, the fan project was able to enter into a production stage. The series was able to attract a number of notable guest stars with ties to the Trek franchise such as Marina Sirtis , who provided the voice of the Enterprise's computer and Michael Forest , who reprised his character Apollo from TOS. Actors from other franchises also made guest appearances, such as Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant from Doctor Who ; Lou Ferrigno from The Incredible Hulk ; and Erin Gray from Buck Rogers in the 25th Century . Offspring of TOS-era actors also appeared, most notably Chris Doohan , who played his father, James', character of Montgomery Scott throughout the series, and Amy Rydell , who played the TOS-era Romulan Commander previously played by her mother, Joanne Linville.

Star Trek Continues is a fan-created science fiction series set in the Star Trek universe produced by Trek Continues Inc., Far From Home, and Dracogen. The series is an unofficial direct continuation of the third and last season of Star Trek: The Original Series , whose visual and storytelling features have been reproduced to recreate the same look-and-feel.

As with all such Star Trek fan productions, use of copyrighted and trademarked properties from the original series was allowed so long as the production is not-for-profit. Part of the funds necessary to produce the episodes were raised through a successful Kickstarter campaign, to which almost three thousand backers contributed.

Star Trek Continues won a Geekie Award for "Best Web Series" in 2014 and has been very positively received by the critics, who praised the quality of the production, stating that the series has set a new standard for Star Trek fan productions.

star trek continues episode 8

Firstly let me just say WOOHOO , that was great. OK, now to address some of your thoughts. NO, there will be no more episodes as they are no longer allowed to make any videos/episodes longer than 10 min due to the studio kicking up a fuss because fans love this version and kept donating money for many more episodes. And if the studios wasn't making the full length show, then no one was as far as they where concerned. As for Kirk not being promoted after the 5 year mission, well actually he was. But of course in good old Kirk fashion, he did something naughty and was demoted, then promoted, then demoted, then porm.... well, you get the point. But when he died he had the rank of Admiral. Now the ONLY ship to separate the drive section from the saucer section was the Enterprise ship/s from Star Trek The Next Generation series and movies. (Apart from the experimental ship in one of the Voyager episodes) It was good to see it in this final episode and was done in a way to show how experimental it was in the time line. Hopefully there might be a now series from this team with 30 to 40 10 min episodes each year. Now that would be great. Thanks to all the talented folks that made this show possible.

Reviewing “Star Trek Continues”

Reviewing “Star Trek Continues”

May 26, 2013 By S. K. Sloan 10 Comments

Star Trek Continues is the new live action web-based series from Vic Mignogna, the popular anime voice actor. Mignogna stars as Captain James T. Kirk. The USS Enterprise is in her fourth year of going where no man has gone before warping off right where the original series ended in 1969.

The first episode of this new series of adventures has been completed, made its debut at this year’s Phoenix Comic Con and is now available for viewing online. It has everything the Star Trek TOS fan could want; fantastic sets and props that look like they were lifted right off the Desilu and NBC lot, right down to the EVA suits, Scotty’s favorite hangout in the Jeffries-tube as well as all those uncomfortable 60’s-something chairs on the bridge. Speaking of the bridge, you’d swear they were somehow able to get their hands on the original but this one is even better. No noticeable wear and tear or cardboard feel to it and all the flashing lights, bells and whistles work perfectly.

Mignogna is well cast as Kirk. He is Shatner-like without too many Shatnerisms, just a few to makes us old timers feel at home. Oh, I have to mention, there is even the requisite shirtless Kirk in one scene for this first episode. Fellow anime voice actor Todd Haberkorn stands in as Spock. Doctor McCoy, at least for this first episode, is played by the famous walking wiki of Star Trek, Mr. Larry Nemecek who knows more about the Trek-verse than any living creature should. The real win here for Trek fans is Christopher Doohan, son of James Doohan who portrayed Starfleet engineer Commander Montgomery “Scotty” Scott in every episode of the original series, a guest appearance on Star Trek The Next Generation, and continued as Scotty for seven big screen Trek films. Chris was perfect casting in the role of Scotty. He captures all his Dad’s mannerism’s as chief engineer, his Scottish-brogue and great love for the Enterprise. Sitting at the communications station is Kim Stinger as Uhura, “Mythbusters” star Grant Imahara is excellent as Mr. Sulu and Wyatt Lenhart ( Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat ) is quite at home as Ensign Pavel Chekov.

This first episode is titled “Pilgrim of Eternity” and it boasts of very significant guest stars, first looks at what is now familiar technology and even an introduction to the position of Ships’s Counselor, something every Next Generation fan should be very familiar with.

stc-ep1-pilgrim

As well as meeting up with our old pal Apollo this new episode also introduces fans to Starfleet’s new first ever shipboard position of Counselor wonderfully played by actress Michele Specht, the holodeck gets its embryonic stages in the hands of Mr. Scott, but it has a long way to go before it’s up to TNG specs which could explain why it never made a debut in any of the first six films.

“Pilgrim of Eternity” landed two big guest starring names from the world of science fiction. Jamie Bamber from “Battlestar Galactica” pays a red shirt visit and The Next Generation’s Marina Sirtis is the ship’s computer voice. I hope she has signed on for multiple episodes as it was great hearing her voice aboard the Enterprise once again.

This first episode is a worthy effort on the part of Vic Mignogna, Farragut Films and DracoGen Strategic Investments. They have certainly raised the bar for independent Star Trek episodic film making. Their main competitor and the one that started it all, Star Trek Phase II (New Voyages) has some work to do now that this new kid on the block has shown its first colors, and they are bright. I have little doubt of Phase II’s ability to meet the call as their productions are also second to none. But, nevertheless, look out Mr. Cawley, Mr. Mignogna is on the playing field and he is on his game.

This is a good time to be a Star Trek fan. Hollywood is listening. The internet is maturing and the franchise of 50 years shows no sign of aging. May it Live Long and Prosper indeed.

Nor should you as there is plenty of room for both web series to exist. This isn’t a competition. However, I’m just delighted at the wealth of fan-made Trek material that IS out there to watch and IS of good quality. I’m personally happy that Vic is there adding his take to a franchise that we are all still very much in love with.

Star Trek Continues is the first time I’ve ever watched a fan-made production and I was blown away by it. That led me to discover Star Trek Phase II, which blew me away as well. Both of these productions are absolutely top notch!

I agree 100% Christian. I was a fan of Phase II (New Voyages) from their very 1st episode & my 2 favorite from them are To Serve All My Days with Walter Koenig & World Enough And Time with George Takei. They were both very beautifully done & could have easily been a part of TOS regular episodes they were that professionally done and that is all because of the top notch and meticulous work done by James Cawley, cast and crew. Now, after seeing Star Trek Continues’ 1st endeavor I can honestly say they too have done a stupendous job & I look forward to great future episodes from both productions.

Yeah, that last line pretty much sums it up. This really is a great time to be a Star Trek fan, and seeing as how one of these independent productions do take a while from conception to completion, the more top notch teams there are at the table, the less time I have to spend waiting to get my fix.

I may be suffering from a lifetime of traditional thinking where you expect a return on investments, but these are impressive productions to only be fan-made web shows

People are really putting this much time and quality effort into these productions without any hope of financial compensation ?

From the looks of it, it seems these must have cost at least $50,000 per episode at the cheapest. That is a good chunk of change “just for fun”

What am I missing Thanks

December 22, 2013 at 6:42 pm

They are impressive productions indeed. Finances come from varied sources, most prominently from fans like you and I who donate to the projects upstart programs such as Kickstarter and others, but also from those who are in front of and behind the cameras as well. Most all the actors and crew donate their own time, talent and money to this because it is a project of love first and foremost. Volunteers on the production staff get heavily involved with everything from doing cleanup crews to carpentary, lighting and so on. It really is a labor of love for projects like Star Trek Phase II and Star Trek Continues, just to name the two most popular and respected out there.

Thanks for the reply …

This Star Trek Continues is so well done is wins my highest praise.

I would enjoy seeing a “behind the scenes” type video of just how as a fan made film project they were able to accurately reproduces sets, lighting, effects, etc…

Truth be told, I enjoyed this better than the last 2 big budget Star Trek films

Screen Rant

Shogun episode 8 ending explained: was this toranaga’s plan the whole time.

Shōgun episode 8 reveals the true nature of Lord Toranaga’s surrender as he continues to make sacrifices and elaborate plans to avoid bloodshed.

WARNING: This article contains SPOILERS for Shogun episode 8.

  • Toda Hiromatsu's seppuku was part of Toranaga's plan to make Ishido believe in his surrender.
  • Toranaga never intended to surrender; his plan is a complex ploy to defeat Ishido with minimal bloodshed.
  • Toranaga's mission for Lady Mariko hints at her significant role in the upcoming war for Japan.

Shōgun episode 8 ends with the reveal of what is behind Lord Toranaga’s surrender following the gruesome and emotional death of Toda Hiromatsu. While some of Toranaga’s allies, including Yabushige, believed that their lord was going to eventually give up his decision to surrender, this did not happen. During the meeting in which Toranaga’s daimyos and samurais were supposed to confirm their surrender too, Hiromatsu opposed his lord and committed seppuku . Toda Hiromatsu’s shocking death was very tragic, yet it was secretly part of a plan he and Lord Toranaga came up with.

With only two episodes left before Shōgun ’s finale , the pieces are all where they were supposed to be before the war against Ishido. John Blackthorne is back at his ship and has Yabushige at his side, whereas Lady Mariko is about to receive a very important mission from Toranaga. The storylines of all Shōgun characters are coming full circle ahead of the finale, although a lot of characters are still oblivious to Lord Toranaga’s true plan. The deaths of his son and closest advisor have bought Yoshii just the time he needed.

Why Toda Hiromatsu Committed Seppuku In Shōgun Episode 8

Toda hiromatsu knew what he had to do to help toranaga.

At first, it seemed like Toda Hiromatsu had committed seppuku because he refused to follow Lord Toranaga into defeat now that the Lord of Kanto was about to surrender. Hiromatsu, arguing in favor of other daimyos who refused to join Toranaga in his surrender, stated that they should not submit themselves to Ishido. There was a heated argument between Hiromatsu and Toranaga, who had been friends since the latter was a child. Hiromatsu has been by Toranaga’s side since in every battle, which is why their disagreement was so intense.

Hiromatsu’s sacrifice meant that no one would question the truthfulness of Lord Toranaga’s surrender.

By refusing to follow a direct order from his lord, Toda Hiromatsu would have no choice but to commit seppuku. Toda Buntaro, Hiromatsu’s son, participated in the seppuku ritual and even asked to join his father in death. However, no one in the room knew the true reason behind Hiromatsu’s seppuku. Lord Toranaga’s best friend was not in a disagreement with his lord, and it was all part of an act to make Ishido believe that Toranaga was willing to surrender no matter what. Hiromatsu’s sacrifice meant that no one would question the truthfulness of Lord Toranaga’s surrender.

Lord Toranaga’s Plan Explained: What His Surrender Really Means

Toranaga is not really giving up.

Shōgun episode 8 confirms that Lord Toranaga never truly intended to surrender and that it has all been part of a complex ploy to lower Ishido’s guard. Toranaga wants to protect the Heir and avoid a war that would break Japan into pieces, but the only way to do so is by defeating Ishido with the least amount of bloodshed possible. Refusing to surrender in Ajiro would have led to an immediate war between Toranaga’s forces and those loyal to the council. This is why Toranaga has been playing the long game and might have even anticipated his brother’s betrayal.

However, for Toranaga’s plan to work, Ishido would have to believe that his enemy was going to peacefully surrender . The Lord of Kanto is known for his complex strategies and elaborated ploys, which is why his defeat needed to look as convincing as possible. Toranaga spent most of the trip between Ajiro and Edo showing signs of illness and even missed his son’s funeral. Toda Hiromatsu’s seppuku was the most drastic part of the plan and sent a clear message that Lord Toranaga would surrender. This gives Yoshii the freedom to secretly counterattack.

What Is Toranaga’s Mission For Lady Mariko In Shōgun?

Mariko has an important role to play in the war.

Lord Toranaga’s actual battle plan remains unknown, but there are some hints regarding what his next moves will be. Yoshii’s strategy involves Lady Mariko, who has been summoned by her lord and was told the truth about Hiromatsu’s sacrifice. Assuming Mariko is the only other person in the realm who knows about Toranaga’s secret plan, her role in what is to come must be very significant. Toranaga will give Lady Mariko a very important mission on which the fate of Japan might lie. Mariko appears to be ready to do whatever it takes to help Toranaga win the war.

Why John Blackthorne Didn’t Reunite With His Men

Blackthorne’s crew were keen to reunite with him.

Shōgun 's John Blackthorne has been trying to reunite with his crew since the beginning of the show when most of the men aboard the foreign ship were made prisoners. All of Blackthrone’s attempts at reuniting with his men had failed, even after he became Lord Toranaga’s hatamoto. Following Toranaga’s apparent surrender, the Anjin was finally given the chance to see his crew again. However, it took only a brief interaction with one of them for Blackthorne to realize that they did not want to reunite with their captain. Blackthorne’s men blame him for what happened.

Blackthorne was accused of knowing exactly what they were sailing toward and still choosing to go to Japan. John could have stopped the mission as soon as their original captain committed suicide but chose to continue, which is why his men blame him for everything that happened since their arrival in Japan. After a fight with one of his crew members, Blackthorne went away without even talking to the rest of them. This led the Anjin, now a captain without a crew, to go to Yabushige in search of a new banner for him to sail under.

How Blackthorne’s Alliance With Yabushige Factors In Toranaga’s Plan

Toranaga was counting on blackthorne going to yabushige.

Blackthorne offered his services to Yabushige , hoping the Lord of Izo would allow him to sail under his banner. While Yabushige would have liked to have a foreign ship with guns and a trained pilot under his command, he believed that Toranaga could still win the war and refused to betray his master. However, once Hiromatsu committed seppuku, Yabushige concluded that Toranaga was not lying about his surrender. This was all part of Toranaga’s larger plan, though, as he wanted Yabushige to eventually accept the Anjin’s offer.

Lady Mariko’s Seppuku Request In Shogun Explained: Does She Really Want To Die?

Yabushige would not leave Edo aboard John Blackthorne’s ship unless he was sure that Toranaga was going to surrender. Toranaga wanted Yabushige to move the ship and the weapons, but it had to appear like it was all Yabushige’s decision and not a war move by Toranaga. At the end of Shōgun episode 8, when Yabushige and Blackthorne were already aboard the Englishman’s ship, Lady Mariko arrived with a message from Toranaga. Whatever Toranaga’s battle plan is, it involves John Blackthorne and his ship.

What Daiyoin’s Death Means For Ochiba-no-kata

Daiyoin was the one who made ruri into ochiba-no-kata.

Image via Hulu/FX

Daiyoin, once known as Lady Iyo, was the wife of the Taikō . Neither she nor any of his concerts were able to give the Taikō an heir until Ochiba. Lady Iyo is the one who brought Ruri into the court and made her into Ochiba-no-kata . The Taikō ’s wife saw Ochiba’s son as her own child but also served as a twisted mother figure to Ochiba. It’s unclear how Ochiba felt about Daiyoin during the latter’s final moments. That said, the Heir’s mother knows she has been used her whole life , which is why she won’t back down from the fight.

Nagakado & Hiromatsu’s Deaths Mean Toranaga Won’t Accept Defeat

Toranaga has lost too much already.

Shōgun episode 8’s final moments see Lord Toranaga finally mourning the death of his son, which was only able to do after pretending to be a defeated old man on the verge of death. Toranaga pretended to be sick and missed his son’s funeral to add to the perception he was going to surrender as soon as they arrived in Osaka. Nagakado’s death bought Toranaga some time, though, allowing him to make his act even more convincing during his time in Edo. Between Nagakado’s accidental death and Toranaga’s sacrifice, Toranaga cannot afford to be defeated after so many losses.

Shōgun releases new episodes Tuesdays on FX and Hulu.

That's right listeners, it's time to go where no one has gone before -to the big screen, for the first voyage of the Enterprise in theaters! Today the Planet 8 crew is talking  Star Trek: The Motion Picture!

The Motion Picture  (or ST:TMP) has gained a bad reputation over the years, often derisively called 'The Motionless Picture,' but it actually was a hit at the box office, if not with the critics. Without ST:TMP, we wouldn't have gotten  Wrath of Khan , or any of the films to follow, and perhaps no Next Generation and beyond. So whatever your opinion of the film -and we know opinions vary, because even within our Planet 8 crew, they do - one must acknowledge its role in keeping the franchise alive.

We'll discuss the troubled history of the production, how it swung back and forth between plans to be a new Star Trek TV series (Star Trek Phase II), a movie, a TV show, and a film again. By the time the studio decided to go with a theatrical film, they went into production in a rush, without a firm script, and with a set release date (December 7, 1979) which put the pressure on, especially with the complicated special effects that were required. They were lucky to have an experienced director in Robert Wise at the helm. They also kicked out the original effects group and brought in master effects artists Doug Trumbull and John Dykstra, who managed to finish the special effects just in time for the release.

Going to see Star Trek on the big screen was a real experience for all of us. There was, of course, huge anticipation. We hadn't seen our Enterprise crew in a new adventure in years! What would they look like? What would the story be like? Of course we had seen photos in magazines but to see them on the big screen would be a special thrill! For some though, the movie was not what they expected. After the excitement of  Star Wars , ST:TMP might have seemed too slow, too talky. For others, it was too reminiscent of the Star Trek episode,  The Changeling , where an ancient Earth space probe, modified by an alien probe, mistakes Kirk for its creator. But in some ways, ST:TMP is the Trek movie most like the original episodes. It may have been their attempt at Trek's '2001,' but it maintains Trek's hopeful concept for mankind's development as a species.

Regardless of one's thoughts about the plot of the film, the special effects are still beautiful to behold (and if you haven't seen the director's edition, run out now and get it!), and Jerry Goldsmith's score is perhaps the best Star Trek score of all. His main theme went on to become the theme of  Star Trek: The Next Generation,  but it originated here, with this film, and it's absolutely beautiful to hear in conjunction with the visual of the streamlined Enterprise.

In any case, it's worth a revisit if you haven't seen it in a while. Check it out and let us know your thoughts!

For our  Sensor Sweep  this episode, to go with our theme, Karen shares a book that goes into great depth on ST:TMP:  Return to Tomorrow: The Filming of Star Trek: The Motion Picture  by Preston Neal Jones. In this hefty tome, Jones has put together an oral history of the film, which includes interviews with the cast and crew of The Motion Picture. Honestly, anything you would ever want to know about how the movie was made is included in this book. You can find it from sellers on Amazon, and at the time of this writing, they now have an ebook version too.

We also want to give a plug to our first ever video-only episode on our YouTube channel! We decided to do a quick little video Sensor Sweep for you guys, sharing some of our collectibles, and a funny story about a near-miss the guys had with a collectible. So we hope you'll check it out at  our YouTube channel . Let us know if you'd like to see more video episodes!

All right, that's it for this time around. But if you want to contact us, hailing frequencies are open!

What to stream this weekend on Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video and all your other favorite streaming ... [+] services.

The weekend isn’t quite here yet, but I’ve decided to try posting these guides a bit early, on Wednesday evening instead of Friday. I’ll update each guide with anything I might have missed, so if you think of anything don’t hesitate to message me on Twitter or Facebook .

If this works out and people enjoy having access to the guide ahead of the weekend, I’ll continue posting early. If not, I’ll return to posting on Fridays going forward. We shall test the waters and go from there.

This week there’s actually quite a bit of new shows and movies to stream, so let’s dive right in!

Check out last week’s streaming guide here:

We’ll start with the new stuff and then go over some of the shows currently airing. I don’t always catch everything, so if you know of something new and exciting (or that you think ought to be on this list) shoot me a message on Twitter and Facebook .

The Best Gaming Laptops Under $1,000: Boost Your Games For Less

Fallout (april 10th on prime video).

I’ll be watching this tonight, though I doubt I’ll finish all 8 episodes in one sitting. Still, I’m very excited for this adaptation of the popular post-apocalyptic video game franchise from Bethesda. I love the casting and my colleague Paul Tassi, who has seen all 8 episodes, says it’s very good. I’ll have thoughts soon. All 8 episodes land on Prime Wednesday, April 10th at 6pm PT.

Baby Reindeer (April 11th on Netflix)

This new limited series is based on true events and looks pretty wild. It’s from the creators of the dark comedy The End Of The F***cking World and comedian Richard Gadd , so if you enjoyed that you’ll probably enjoy this as well. It looks very funny, very creepy and very tense. There are no baby reindeer, however.

Blood Free (April 10th on Disney+ and Hulu)

A Korean thriller about a future where animals are no longer slaughtered for meat and some sort of conspiracy around the company that grows the fake meat in a lab. I only just stumbled on this one, so I know very little about it, but it’s out now and frankly it looks very exciting. New episodes drop on Wednesdays.

Strange Way Of Life (April 12th on Netflix)

The short film from Pedro Almodóvar stars Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal and is sort of a more action-packed Brokeback Mountain. It’s only half an hour long. Pascal and Hawke’s characters reunite and rekindle an old flame but then things go terribly wrong. It looks quite strange and I’m definitely going to have to watch.

CTRL+ALT+DESIRE (April 16th on Parmount+)

If you’re a true crime aficionado this might be the three-part docuseries for you. The three-part series is about Grant Amato, a young Florida man (heh) who became obsessed with a Bulgarian cam model, leading him to create a new persona online by stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from family members. Murder follows. The docuseries explores the story, examines the evidence and paints a complex portrait of the messy, blurred lines between fantasy and reality.

What’s Ongoing

Notably absent from this week’s guide is The Regime, the Kate Winslet-led dark satire that’s aired over the last six weeks on HBO and Max which I still have not watched. Here are some of the other ongoing shows worth checking out that continue to air weekly.

Sugar (Apple TV)

The last time I saw Colin Farrell as a detective it was in Season 2 of True Detective. He was spectacular in that. He also played a detective in Minority Report, hunting down Tom Cruise. Now he takes center stage in Apple TV’s Sugar, where he plays a private detective named John Sugar hired to track down a Hollywood producer’s missing grandchild. Episodes air each Friday on Apple TV+. I’ve enjoyed what I’ve watched so far, but haven’t entirely made my mind up about Sugar just yet. More thoughts to come.

Mary and George (Starz)

This hasn’t been on my radar at all but it sounds like the sort of period drama I could get into. Mary & George is the true story of Mary Villiers (Julianna Moore) who climbs the social ladder thanks to her son, George (Nicholas Galitzine) who just so happens to be sleeping with King James IV (Tony Curran). It looks like there should be plenty of political intrigue and backstabbery to keep this entertaining. New episodes air each Friday on Starz.

Shogun (Hulu)

You can read my latest recap/review of Shogun here.

The best at the moment is Shogun on Hulu , though I have the hardest time remembering that it airs so early in the week and keep forgetting to watch it on time. There are just two episodes remaining. New episodes release on Tuesdays, and we only have two left! The series is based on James Clavell’s novel and is truly exceptional in every way, from the costume and set design to the stunning cinematography, music and a bevy of brilliant performances. If you have any interest in feudal Japan or enjoy Game Of Thrones style intrigue, give it a go.

Other shows currently airing include:

  • Star Trek: Discovery’s fifth season is airing every Thursday on Paramount+. This actually reminds me that I never watched Season 4. I have mixed feelings about the show. It had some great moments in its first three seasons but plenty of stuff irked me. I’m behind on all things Star Trek, truth be told.
  • Parish on AMC with Giancarlo Esposito. I tried the first episode of this out and got a little bored and decided to watch something else. I have not yet returned to this show, and I’m not sure I will. But Esposito is terrific in The Gentlemen on Netflix which I’m absolutely loving. What a fun show!
  • A Gentleman in Moscow on Paramount+ starring Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, about a Russian aristocrat under house arrest following the Soviet Revolution. This one is good. I need to write something up about it. New episodes come out on Sundays.
  • X-Men 97 on Disney+ brings back the classic, vintage feel of the old X-Men series. It continues airing on Wednesdays and really is a lot of fun.

In Theaters

I try to post at least one theatrical release a week despite this being a streaming guide. I just love going to the movies and I’m an advocate for the theater business’s survival, especially when COVID almost killed the industry. I don’t want to lose movie theaters.

This week’s selection is Civil War, a film about a second American civil war taking place in modern times. It’s gotten mixed reviews, though 78% on Rotten Tomatoes isn’t bad. I’m hoping to go see it this weekend and report back here on this blog.

And that’s all for now, folks. Be sure to let me know if you have any recommendations for me as well!

Further reading from your humble guide:

  • Bad news for a much-hyped Game Of Thrones spinoff.
  • Good news for the next Game Of Thrones spinoff.
  • The new Joker 2 trailer is so damn good.
  • Viggo Mortensen’s new Western movie looks amazing.

And don’t forget to check last weekend’s guide for whatever you may have missed!

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5's New Planet Has Two Deep Cut TNG Connections

WARNING: This article contains SPOILERS for Star Trek: Discovery, season 5, episode 2, "Under the Twin Moons"

  • Discovery hunts for Progenitor tech on Lyrek, linking TNG's Promellians & Minosians in a treasure hunt.
  • Burnham & Saru evade ancient automated weapons on Lyrek akin to Picard's encounter on Minos.
  • Discovery's season 5 references TNG big & small, with connections to past episodes & extinct civilizations.

Lyrek, the new planet in Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 2, "Under the Twin Moons," has connections to two different episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation . Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and the USS Discovery are hunting for clues to the Progenitors' technology that can create life itself. Racing to catch up to couriers Moll (Eve Harlow) and L'ak (Elias Toufexis) , Discovery's hunt in "Under the Twin Moons" leads to a planet in the Vileen system where 24th century Romulan scientist Dr. Vellek (Michael Copeman) hid the next clue.

In Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 2 , “Under The Twin Moons," Captain Burnham and her crew travel to the planet Lyrek, following a clue referencing twin moons. Located at the edge of the Beta Quadrant in the Vileen System, Lyrek is an uninhabited planet home to a large necropolis built by the Promellians, a species first mentioned in TNG. When Michael and Saru (Doug Jones) beam down to the planet, they find signs that Moll and L'ak have already been there. As they investigate the ruins, they are fired upon by an automated security system much like the one encountered by the USS Enterprise-D in the Star Trek: The Next Generation season 1 episode "The Arsenal of Freedom."

Star Trek: Discoverys TNG Connection Explained - "The Chase" & Who Are The Progenitors?

Discovery name drops the promellians from star trek: tng's "booby trap", the promellians were first mentioned in tng season 3, episode 6, "booby trap.".

In Star Trek: The Next Generation's "Booby Trap," Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and the USS Enterprise-D come across a Promellian battlecruiser surrounded by debris from a battle that took place centuries ago. Although little is known about the Promellians, they were extremely advanced for their time. The Promellians had been in a war with the Menthars for years, and the two species eventually destroyed one another in the 14th century at the Battle of Orelious IX. As Picard and his crew investigate the battlecruiser, they find dead Promellian crewmembers and realize that the ship was caught in a Menthar trap.

Despite their extinction, the Promellians' presence continues to be felt even in the 32nd century. When the USS Discovery investigates Lyrek, they discover that the planet was used as a burial site for the Promellians. On the surface, Captain Burnham and Saru navigate the crumbled statues and ruins, and soon find themselves at the mercy of an ancient automated weapons system. Aboard Discovery, Ensign Adira Tal (Blu del Barrio) and Lt. Sylvia Tilly (Mary Wiseman) search for a way to disable the weapons system, when Captain Rayner (Callum Keith Rennie) pops in to remind them to think like ancient Promellians.

Picard's Enterprise Fought Automated Weapons Like Burnham & Saru

Picard and his crew encounter a similar weapons system in tng season 1, episode 21, "the arsenal of freedom.".

The automated weapons system on Lyrek is similar to the one encountered by Captain Picard and the USS Enterprise-D crew in Star Trek: The Next Generation 's "The Arsenal of Freedom." As they investigated a planet called Minos, the away team was attacked by drone devices that tracked and fired at them. Like the Promellians, the Minosians were an advanced humanoid race who were extinct by the 24th century of TNG . Eventually, the away team realized that they had inadvertently triggered a demonstration of the weapons system meant to entice buyers. Picard got the system to shut down by convincing the automated salesman that he would purchase the system.

As its first line of defense, the weapons system on Minos traps Commander William Riker (Jonathan Frakes) in some kind of personal containment field. In Discovery season 5, episode 1, "Red Directive," Moll and La'k use a similar weapon to trap Lt. Commanders Joann Owosekun (Oyin Oladejo) and Gen Rhys (Patrick Kwok-Choon).

After Captain Burnham and Saru trigger the weapons system on Lyrek, they struggle to hide from the drones long enough for Tilly and Adira to find a way to shut down the system. After Tilly realizes the electromagnetic field on the planet powers the weapons, Saru draws the drones away so that Michael can trigger an electromagnetic pulse using their phasers. This temporarily disrupts the system, allowing Michael and Saru to find the next clue to the treasure they are hunting. Based on its first two episodes, Star Trek: Discovery season 5 has references to Star Trek: The Next Generation big and small.

The highly anticipated fifth and final season of Star Trek: Discovery arrives this week!

This season finds Captain Burnham and the crew of the  U.S.S. Discovery  uncovering a mystery that will send them on an epic adventure across the galaxy to find an ancient power whose very existence has been deliberately hidden for centuries. But there are others on the hunt as well… dangerous foes who are desperate to claim the prize for themselves and will stop at nothing to get it.

Ahead of the premiere, StarTrek.com had the opportunity to speak with series cast Sonequa Martin-Green (Captain Michael Burnham), Doug Jones (Saru), Anthony Rapp (Paul Stamets), Mary Wiseman (Sylvia Tilly), Wilson Cruz (Dr. Hugh Culber), David Ajala (Cleveland "Book" Booker), Blu del Barrio (Adira), along with this season's recurring guest star Eve Harlow (Moll) and executive producer and co-showrunner Michelle Paradise . With their help, here's what you can expect from their characters this season!

In case you need a quick refresher before we dive forward, we've got a handy Where We Left Off guide !

Now let's fly!

Sonequa Martin-Green on Season 5 Stakes and Captain Michael Burnham's Relationship Status

'Red Directive'

"Red Directive"

StarTrek.com

"This season, we can expect a wild ride," teases Sonequa Martin-Green. "One of the things that they wanted to do was that they wanted to have a tonal shift. They wanted it to be adventurous, they wanted it to be fun, they wanted it to be kind of like the Indiana Jones season. And so we really did that. We really did that. The artistry is on another level."

"In every department, you will see some really incredible things coming to life," continues Martin-Green. "In Season 5, we did some stuff we should not have been able to do; we did some stuff that we've never done before. I'm really proud of every department, of every cast member, of every crew member, every writer, every producer, every post-production coordinator, and supervisor, and worker. We took it to the next level without even knowing that it was our last season. When everyone sees it, I think that they'll see what I'm talking about. It's culminating because of that; it is just on another level. It's a huge, huge season. People have a lot to look forward to."

Addressing where Michael Burnham and Book find themselves at the start of this season, Martin-Green explains, "Book and Burnham, they are the classic, old Facebook status of 'It's complicated.' They've got a lot to work through. That's where we pick up with them, having not been speaking as regularly as they normally do. Of course, we see that he was sent off at the end of Season 4. Now they are back in each other's midst, and they have got a lot to talk about and a lot to wade through. It's very complicated between them. There's obviously still that love, that deep love, that bond, that respect, but they've got a lot to work through."

Doug Jones on Saru's Next Step

'Under the Twin Moons'

"Under the Twin Moons"

Reflecting on Saru's journey across the entire series, Doug Jones reveals, "Saru had been captain of the ship for Season 3. And Season 4, he then kind of took a step to First Officer again, because of his loyalty to Michael Burnham, and the special task we were on throughout the season."

"Well, now he’s [re-evaluating] his purpose there," adds Jones. "Has it run its course? His relationship with President T’Rina, played by the lovely Tara Rosling. She does come into the equation with how he makes his decision."

Anthony Rapp on Paul Stamets' Legacy and Season 5 Baddies

In engineering, Statmets grins while looking over his shoulder in a first look for Star Trek: Discovery Season 5

Episode 506

"This season, you can expect a new level of inquiry for Paul about what's next for him in terms of the work that he wants to do," hints Anthony Rapp. "He's an incredibly driven and brilliant human being with this mind, that's some level of genius. You get to see him like stretch himself in new ways."

What does the Discovery crew make of arrival of this season's antagonists — Moll (played by Eve Harlow) and L'ak (played by Elias Toufexis)?

"I really love the description of this kind of Bonnie and Clyde," shares Rapp. "It was fun for us, or for me, I could speak for myself, to have these kind of iconic touchstone archetypes brought into our show. Their energy as people; [Eve Harlow and Elias Toufexis] brought a beautiful energy to the company to being a part of our show and being a part of our story. And then their work was exceptional. To have this, this idea of this kind of like maverick couple that's on the run is a cool one. And there's a reason it's iconic. And I think that the way that our writers threaded it through our story was really well done."

Mary Wiseman on Sylvia Tilly's Career Focus

'Under the Twin Moons'

"Tilly's in a great place," notes Mary Wiseman. "She's found a certain kind of assurance from going off to teach at Starfleet Academy, and coming back feels like coming home. You're a little cooler and a little more adult. And people call you 'Miss.'"

However, that's not without some challenges. "But she kind of also feels stuck with the problem about how to get through to these kids that have grown up in this era where there isn't the sort of interconnectedness, galaxy-wide communication, and transportation possibilities that there were when she was growing up," highlights Wiseman. "And she's kind of noticing it in the kids' behavior, and inability to interact or team build. And so that's something that she kind of wants to work on and figure out how to help them out with that."

Wilson Cruz on Dr. Hugh Culber's New Experiences

Culber connects with Tilly as they lean over a counter in a first look at Star Trek: Discovery Season 5

Episode 505

"Where we first find Culber in Season 5, he's in a really good place," notes Wilson Cruz. "He's really embodied this new version of himself, and is ready and willing to take on whatever he's confronted with."

Cruz continues, "This season, he is confronted with an experience that forces him to ask even more existential questions that kind of blows his mind. It starts him on knowing about all of the mysteries of the universe. This whole mission really makes him question a lot of things. We see him process a lot of that throughout the season."

David Ajala on Cleveland "Book" Booker's Love for Burnham and Season 5 Action Sequences

Book and Burnham stand defensively with phasers locked facing ahead as Culber stands by them in a first look for Star Trek: Discovery Season 5

Episode 503

Following the events of Season 4, Book must walk away from Burnham. Reflecting on his actions and headspace at the start of this season, David Ajala states, "It's interesting, because, if we're talking about the gift of grace, Book has definitely received grace from Michael Burnham. Even though Book made the decision that he thought was right, it was not even honorable, but he felt duty bound to do what he did. He was still afforded grace by Michael Burnham, to be welcomed back with open arms. The journey of someone like Cleveland Booker, who was very driven by keeping his autonomy, and also serving his purpose on the planet, which was to help endangered species, to be a part of Starfleet, it was never something that was within his remit. But then to come full circle in Season 5, and to see him, organically incorporate himself within that team is a wonderful story."

"Where we left off in Season 4, revisiting and coming back for Season 5, it's a different territory for both of them," explains Ajala. "And yet, they both have to acknowledge that they're in different spaces, but then still show a level of care for one another. This grey area is new territory."

As for the Indiana Jones -level of excitement the series explores this season, Ajala details, "I love action, I love being able to be physical, to express myself. Having said that, I love the way action is used in the right way. And because this is the final season, we could have taken like one to potentially three episodes to kind of warm into it. But with the first episode, we were straight in with high octane, big action sequences, and just a real spectacle to observe."

Blu del Barrio on Adira's Growing Confidence

'Under the Twin Moons'

"Adira starts out in a pretty solid looking place," reveals Blu del Barrio.

"On the outside, they look and seem really good," adds del Barrio. "They have a lot more responsibilities on the ship. And they're taking their work very seriously, and just very happy to be like more integrated. But underneath the surface, they're struggling a little bit more with some emotional stuff and some major personal stuff."

Eve Harlow on the Arrival of Star-Crossed Lovers and Joining the Cast of Discovery

'Red Directive'

During NYCC 2022 , audiences got to learn about this season's baddies. Moll and L'ak are former couriers turned outlaws. Moll is highly intelligent and dangerous, with an impressive strategic mind and a sharp wit. She goes into every situation with a clear plan and stays focused and clear-headed on her goal, even when things go awry. She’s not easy to intimidate, and will face down anyone who stands in her way in order to get what she wants. Whereas L'ak is tough, impulsive, and fiercely protective of his beloved partner, Moll. So long as he knows she’s safe, he doesn’t care about collateral damage or its consequences — a perspective that makes him very dangerous at times and will put him on the opposite side of Captain Burnham and the crew of the U.S.S. Discovery when they come into conflict.

Speaking directly to StarTrek.com on Star Trek: The Cruise VII, Eve Harlow divulges, "Moll is badass, and she and L’ak are an interspecies couple. It’s kind of breaking all the rules, which is why they’re on the run. It’s very much like Romeo and Juliet or Bonnie and Clyde because they’re star-crossed lovers."

On her experience of joining this series for its fifth season, Harlow offers tons of praises, "These are some of the kindest, just most welcoming people I've ever met. I feel like I just talk about how much I love Sonequa a lot, but I will keep talking about how much I love her. She is the best leader I've ever experienced on set."

"[When I reflected on] who on-set is most like their character in real life. Without skipping a beat, Elias and I, at the same time, were Sonequa. She is that captain, and she treats everyone like an equal. I've just never been on a set where everyone, the crew is so appreciated. She knows everybody's names. She knows what they do. She knows their family life, what's going on with them. She genuinely cares, and being around that, that spirit is infectious. Every single time I was on set. I was so high energy; I was just so happy to be here. And it's because of the people who were working on that show."

Michelle Paradise on Season 5's New Faces

'Under the Twin Moons'

"Elias [Toufexis] and Eve [Harlow] play L’ak and Moll who are our two new bad guys this season," states Michelle Paradise. "We talked about them as kind of a Bonnie and Clyde unit. We hadn't had a couple before as our antagonist. In turn, they're obviously formidable foes for our heroes. But we also really wanted to make sure that they felt well-rounded, and that they weren't just one note, bad guys. We understood the why of what they were doing the depth of their love for one another. People will be surprised that they may start rooting for these bad guys, actually. But they'll never want them to win more than our heroes, of course. It’s a lot of fun to have them."

L'ak and Moll aren't the only new faces this season. Rayner, also previously announced at NYCC 2022, is a gruff, smart Starfleet captain who holds a clear line between commander and crew — he leads, they follow. Rayner’s all about the mission, whatever it may be, and he doesn’t do niceties along the way; his feeling is, you get the job done and apologize later. He has a storied track record of wartime success, but in times of peace, he struggles. Collaboration is not his strong suit. That said, if it serves the greater good he’s willing to learn... but it won’t be easy.

"And then Callum Keith Rennie plays Captain Rayner," elaborates Paradise. "What's interesting about him is that he is going to be a bit of an antagonist, but not in a bad guy way. He's going to push Burnham, and we'll get to see new sides of Burnham and new growth in Burnham because of her interactions with him. It's a really interesting dynamic there. That's one of the things that we always look at, if we're going to bring in any new guest characters, is how can they impact our regulars? And how can they help our regulars grow over the course of the season or change or help us see new sides of them, and these three do that beautifully."

Get ready for Discovery 's final adventure when Season 5 premieres with the first two episodes later this week!

SPOILER ALERT: This story discusses major plot developments in Season 5, Episode 1 of “ Star Trek : Discovery,” now streaming on Paramount+.

By the end of the episode, however, the mission has pushed Burnham and her crew to their limits, including slamming the USS Discovery into the path of a massive landslide threatening a nearby city. Before they risk their lives any further pursuing this object, Burnham demands that Kovich at least tell her why. (MAJOR SPOILERS FOLLOW.)

Kovich’s explanation evokes the classic “ Star Trek: The Next Generation ” episode “The Chase” from 1993 in which Capt. Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) — along with teams of Romulans, Klingons and Cardassians — learn that all humanoid life in the galaxy was created by a single species that existed billions of years earlier, and seeded thousands of planets with the DNA to pass along their legacy. (Along with presenting a profound vision of the origins of life, the episode also provided an imaginative explanation for why almost all the aliens in “Star Trek” basically look like humans with different kinds of forehead ridges.)

Kovich tells Burnham that the Romulan scientist was part of a team sent to discover exactly how these aliens — whom they call the Progenitors — made this happen; the object they’re seeking winds up being one part of a brand new “chase,” this time in the 32nd century, to find the Progenitors’ technology before it can fall into the wrong hands.

“I remember watching that episode and at the end of it just being blown away that there was this huge idea where we all come from,” Paradise says. “And then they’re going to have another mission the next week. I found myself wondering, ‘Well, then what? What happened? What do we do with this information? What does it mean?’”

Originally, Paradise says the “Discovery” writers’ room discussed evoking the Progenitors in Season 4, when the Discovery meets an alien species, the 10-C, who live outside of the galaxy and are as radically different from humans as one could imagine. “As we dug deeper into the season itself, we realized that it was too much to try and get in,” Paradise says.

Instead, they made the Progenitors the engine for Season 5. “Burnham and some of our other characters are on this quest for personal meaning,” Paradise says. Searching for the origins of life itself, she adds, “feels like a big thematic idea that fits right in with what we’re exploring over the course of the season, and what our characters are going through.”

That meant that Paradise finally got to help come up with the answers to the questions about “The Chase” that had preoccupied her when she was younger. “We had a lot of fun talking about what might’ve happened when [Picard] called back to headquarters and had to say, ‘Here’s what happened today,’” she says. “We just built the story out from there.”

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5: How Many Episodes & When Do New Episodes Come Out?

By Apoorv Rastogi

Viewers of Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 are wondering how many episodes are in the series and when each new episode comes out. The American science fiction series takes place in the Star Trek universe and is set ten years before the events of the original series. The show focuses on the escapades of the crew of the USS Discovery, led by Commander Michael Burnham. Having disrupted centuries’ worth of peace by igniting a war, Captain Burnham is court-martialed for her actions and ultimately reassigned to the Discovery. With the help of her crew, Burnham strives to explore new worlds and find an appropriate solution to the war.

Here’s how many episodes are in Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 and on what day new episodes come out.

How many episodes are in Star Trek: Discovery Season 5?

Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 has ten episodes.

The episode list is as follows:

  • Episode 1: Red Directive
  • Episode 2: Under the Twin Moons
  • Episode 3: Jinaal

  • Episode 5: Mirrors
  • Episode 6: Whistlespeak
  • Episode 7: Erigah
  • Episode 8: Labyrinths
  • Episode 9: Lagrange Point
  • Episode 10: Life, Itself

The series has continuously released a lesser number of episodes with each passing season. The cast of Star Trek: Discovery includes Sonequa Martin-Green, who reprises her role as Captain Burnham. Joining her are a hoard of recurring faces, including Doug Jones, Mary Wiseman, Anthony Rapp, Wilson Cruz, David Ajala, and more.

When do new Star Trek: Discovery episodes come out?

Captain James T. Kirk : I guess Scotty was right.

Mr. Spock : How so?

Captain James T. Kirk : You were here, Spock. You saw what just happened.

Mr. Spock : Yes sir. While Apollo clearly had influence over those in the recreation room, I do not believe he intended to behave as he did.

Captain James T. Kirk : So you think he can't control it. He's been this divine parasite for so long that he just can't help himself. Is that it?

Mr. Spock : It has been my experience that humans if not most beings are unable to change their behaviors that are deeply embedded by choice. It is often forced by tragedy or outside intervention.

Captain James T. Kirk : Well, Apollo's therapy will not be at the expense of the Enterprise's crew. I can promise you that. Apparently you can't teach an old god new tricks.

'Star Trek: Discovery' opens its 5th and final season in unremarkable fashion (Red Directive recap)

Hello smartmatter, my old friend, I've come to watch you once again. Because no item is impossible, it makes the story unbelievable... ♬

Both Book and Tilly return to join the regular crewmember cast of the USS Discovery, plus a new face or two

Warning: Spoilers ahead for "Star Trek: Discovery" season 5, episode 1

Well, here we are. Again. It's the fifth and final time around for "Star Trek: Discovery" and the single biggest question every sci-fan will be asking themselves is, will this season actually be any good. The tragic thing is, no one can really remember what happened in season 4 and that speaks directly to the fact that "Discovery" is not exactly a high-scoring show when it comes to rewatchability.

It's been two years and two weeks, give or take a day, since we last saw the crew of the USS Discovery risk everything to save all life in the universe, again. During that time, we've seen a lot of sci-fi, both awesome and awful, including two seasons of " Picard " and " Strange New Worlds ," the third and final season of " The Orville ," season 1 of " Andor ," "The Book of Boba Fett," "Ahsoka" and the less said about "Obi-Wan Kenobi," the better. If you're wondering where to see all that Trek, check out our Star Trek streaming guide for Paramount Plus and more.

Not to mention, the vastly underrated second season of "Invasion" and "Halo" seasons 1 and 2, plus, the first mind-blowing season of "Silo" the second and sadly last season of " Avenue 5 " and two seasons of " For All Mankind ." The point is that the standard has, for the most part, been refreshingly high. And frankly before we even get into season 5 of "Discovery," it's worth remembering that what executive producers and showrunners Alex Kurtzman  and Michelle Paradise have given us up until now, has not exactly been a consistently high quality of sci-fi writing. In fact, it's been rather disappointing.

Are we in-store for another cookie-cutter season of what's-in-the-box plot threads that deliver misdirected build ups with unsatisfying pay offs...you know like we have for the past two seasons plus all three seasons of "Picard"..? Even "Andor," despite its peak and trough-style of repetitive set-piece storytelling, was impressive and that was down to how well those set pieces had been fleshed out along with well written character development and dialogue. Less can very easily be so much more.

Moreover, now we're in the 32nd century and we've seen that transporter technology can be used to replace stairs and even change outfits, so to be perfectly honest, there really isn't a single story idea that cannot be solved by a simple combination of transporter and replicator technology. Not to mention smartmatter. Ah, hello smartmatter, my old friend. Because this is what happens when you throw three seasons of a "Star Trek" series 1,164 years into the future.

Regardless, it would seem that within the story, between four and six months have passed since the events of last season , where you may remember, the United Federation of Planets was desperately trying to save all life as we know from being accidentally exterminated by species 10-C, all while Ruon Tarka (Shawn Doyle) was still hell bent on using the illudium Q-36 explosive space modulator to destroy the dark matter anomaly. Book (David Ajala) gets killed when his ship explodes then bought back to life before he faces repercussions for siding with Tarka. General Ndoye (Phumzile Sitole) seems to get away scot-free despite sabotaging the Discovery's warp drive and everyone lives happily ever after.

Malinne 'Moll' Ravel (Eve Harlow) and L'ak (Elias Toufexis) currently represent the alien antagonists.

—  Star Trek's Seven of Nine returns in new novel 'Picard: Firewall' (exclusive)

Coming in at nearly 60 minutes long, the premiere episode is titled "Red Directive" and drops at the same time as the second episode, entitled "Under The Twin Moons." Michelle Paradise wrote the former, which could explain why it's so dull, and Olatunde Osunsanmi directed. The latter was written by Alan B. McElroy and directed by Douglas Aarniokoski, so fingers the second installment might be a bit better. Aarniokoski directed the season 3 premiere episode of "Picard" and while the rest of that was a disappointing, drawn out, nostalgia-fueled, 10-episode long epilogue to another series that ended three decades ago, the premiere installment was actually okay.

The gang seems mostly all here, including Lt. Tilly (Mary Wiseman) and Adira (Blu del Barrio) and there are some characters who don't seem to have made it back, some of whom will be very much missed, like Grudge, while others won't be. No sign of Zora yet either. It's also entirely likely that the amazing talents of Callum Keith Rennie, who plays a Starfleet Captain named Rayner, will be spectacularly underused, much like Todd Stashwick was in season 3 of "Picard."

Credit to the production team though, as they're are really making the most of their Volume-esque video wall soundstage. There are a couple of interesting choices in terms of editing, much like there were in the second season premiere where Alex Kurtzman showed us what he'd learned in the Vince Gilligan School of Cinematography. It's doubtful we'll ever see them again, just like we didn't before.

Maybe having two starships essentially sticking their heads in the sand was a metaphor for

To conclude then, the opening episode of the final season "Star Trek: Discovery" is a far, far cry from strong openings that this show has demonstrated it's capable of in the past. And that's a sentence we've had to write far too many times. The TNG throwback right at the end is...well, disappointing, mostly because of the extent that nostalgic fan service has been dialed up since the first episode of Nu-Trek aired in September 2017. However, it could still provide an interesting story thread — we will just have to wait and see.

The fifth and final season of "Star Trek: Discovery" and every episode of every "Star Trek" show — with the exception of "Star Trek: Prodigy" — currently streams exclusively on Paramount Plus in the US while "Prodigy" has found a new home o n Netflix.

Internationally, the shows are available on Paramount Plus in Australia, Latin America, the UK and South Korea, as well as on Pluto TV in Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Switzerland on the Pluto TV Sci-Fi channel. They also stream on Paramount Plus in Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria. In Canada, they air on Bell Media's CTV Sci-Fi Channel and stream on Crave.

When Scott's application to the NASA astronaut training program was turned down, he was naturally upset...as any 6-year-old boy would be. He chose instead to write as much as he possibly could about science, technology and space exploration. He graduated from The University of Coventry and received his training on Fleet Street in London. He still hopes to be the first journalist in space.
