Steve Hackett, Birmingham Symphony Hall, 18/11/19.

I'll get the gripes out of the way first. Every time I see him, his guitar is too far down in the mix, as is Nad's voice. Is it too much to ask for Steve and his singer to be audible above the rest of the band? And please don't turn your lights on the audience unless they are top lights. The lights from the stage are quite literally blinding.

Anyway, apart from those two little niggles, the quality of the music was superb as usual. The new drummer - Craig Blundell - was completely different. They even gave him a drum solo at the end of Clocks, and if I closed my eyes I could have been listening to Carl Palmer or even Bill Bruford at one point. I did think the band missed Gary O'Toole's vocals though.

The first half was Spectral Mornings with a few tracks from At the Edge of Light. John Hackett joined them for a couple of tracks, and a real surprise was "The Red Flower of Tachai Blooms Everywhere", which is a Chinese-influenced track which I didn't think the band could pull off - but they did thanks to a flute duet with John and Rob Townsend.

After a short break, they played "Selling England" straight through, just as you'd hear it if you played the CD. The extended version of I Know what I Like was fantastic. Hats off to Nad for completely nailing "More Fool Me". I used to try and sing this when I was a folkie, and I had to do a simplified version on the guitar and some of the notes I couldn't reach even if I dropped it down a key or two. And The Battle of Epping Forest was really well done by them all.

For me - and this is a technical guitar thing - the highlight was just two notes in Steve's guitar solo in Firth of Fifth. I had no idea a guitar could play notes that high, which seemed to be the 5th or 6th harmonic of a note played halfway up the neck on the G string... When the place went silent after the applause for that song, a man in front of me shouted out "That was the best version ever!" and do you know, I tend to agree with him.

The bonus track, "Deja Vu" - well that was a complete triumph. Absolutely beautiful. On the way back I tried to think what album it could have fit into, and to be honest the only one I could have fit it into was... Voyage of the Acolyte or maybe even Spectral Mornings! Too beautiful for one of the Gabriel era Genesis albums, even though he wrote it.

Overall, I noticed that the band seemed to have been let off the leash a bit performance-wise, particularly Rob Townsend and Jonas Reingold.

And a teaser for you - he mentioned the Heart of England orchestra he toured with last year - and said they are working on something similar...

Well there you have it. I nearly killed myself getting there as I've hardly walked for 6 weeks following my op, but I'm so glad I made it. Those of you going, you are in for a real treat.

Dear Steve and amazing band:

Michael and I are overwhelmed by this Berkeley , CA concert! We LOVE LOVE LOVE your band and everyone plays an important part in the music! We have loved Steve Hackett since he was with Genesis ...and we have always thought his interpretation of the music was the MOST important! Love the "older" UTUBE concerts where Gabe was a "babe" in arms and Hackett a virtuoso of the guitar! Nad is the most amazing performer and instills a part that only "GABE" could do! There are many rock guitar styles from the early 60's to 70's that we admire: Jimmy Page, Pete Townsend, David Gilmore, Of Course J. Hendrix ,Keith Richards and then the number one man : STEVE HACKETT! We could listen, watch, enjoy this music until our 100's. I only hope that my children, grandchildren enjoy the most Progressive Rock in history by listening to Steve Hackett's band and all the fantastic music that NO ONE DOES today! PLEASE come back to Berkeley, CA theater soon! Love Mr. Wind, Roger, Gary, and any of he amazing bass guitar players you choose to tour .....Love, Love, Love, I could have listened for 4 days non stop! We Love you Steve Hackett, you are the God's gift to the Universe! See you soon and safe travels! Lori D. and Michael K.

My wife and I did the pre show meet and greet, like we did last year in Chicago. You can tell I'm a fan, have been since 1975.

The Tivoli was a great, intimate venue for such a show. The official song run list looks good and after dinner, we head for the show. Steve Hackett's guitar playing is fantastic, note perfect all night during 2.5 hours of intense playing. The crowd are happy with this minute of solo Hackett and best of Genesis, and a standing ovation greets the band not only at the end but after every Genesis back catalogue 'event'. The Brisbane crowd welcome Steve as a long lost son and everyone cheers during the "Suppers Ready' line - 'its been a long long time, hasn't it?'.

So, well worth the trip from Melbourne to Brisbane, and well worth the chance to consume a musical feast of what represents ground breaking music of the 70's. Steve Hackett is a star of the Gibson guitar, a true gentleman who is true to his ideals. Finally, nice touch Steve on making everyone feel welcome by talking about your families refugee history. What a star.

Can he hack it? I think so! Steve Hackett, ladies and gentlemen. One of the most influential guitarists of the seventies, being looked up to by Eddie Van Halen, Alex Lifeson, Brian May and Steve Rothery. It’s no wonder that this guitarist was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Genesis in 2010.

Being in Genesis however, didn’t hinder the fact that this guitarist had time to record his own albums and put them out there only for them to chart his first six making the top 40. Tonight is in celebration of some of his most successful works. Opening with the distinct sound of “Every Day”, this audience are full of nothing but alcohol and praise as they sing along, loud and clear. “Sentimental Institution” is another song that keeps this gathering on their toes, enjoying the show in front of them. There is absolutely no doubt that Hackett is a good singer, but when he launches into his guitar solos, the audience go absolutely wild for it.

Okay But No Cigar

-----------------

Sorry Steve but it didn’t work with the Orchestra and it’s your fault because you and the band didn’t allow them to breathe; you played your normal band set without enough space left for the orchestra, consequently Nad Sylva's vocals were drowned out every time the orchestra came in. What’s the point of doing Suppers Ready or Musical box if you can’t hear the lyrics? What should have been a magical re-interpretation of Genesis back catalogue and Your Songs with an orchestra, turned into a fight to be heard. It probably would have been better if you dispensed with the band apart from Sylva and the drummer for this one concert and worked with the orchestra to re-interpret the parts played by the rest. It was still a great night out despite the above but the night could have been so much better.

Standout song :Serpintine song

Most disapointing song : Suppers Ready, due to what I outlined above.

Very enjoyable show. This was my fourth time seeing Steve Hackett. I will definitely see him again the next time he is in town. I love watching and listening to him play electric guitar.

The set list was a good mix of new and old material. He played the "Selling England By The Pound" album in its entirety, but it was wonderful that he immediately followed it with a song which was recorded at the time of that album but never included on it. It was good that he was also celebrating the 40th anniversary of his "Spectral Mornings" album. The first set started with a great version of "Every Day" and ended with "Clocks" about 55 minutes later. After a twenty minute break, they played the second set which ran for an hour and a half.

The sound quality and the lighting were excellent. His band are great musicians. It was a sold out crowd in a lovely old theater which just made the evening even more enjoyable.

An amazing show. Steve and the band seem to be getting better every year. His playing was phenomenal, and even with two new band members, the band was tight and played perfectly. The show starts with some great songs off the new album, and then a celebration of Spectral Mornings. After the intermission it's Selling England by the Pound end to end and then some tunes off Trick of the Tail to close.

I really appreciate how much the band loves to perform and how much the audience loves the show. There were multiple standing ovations and Steve in particular seemed to be touched by the response. He spoke a lot, telling some stories behind the songs. It was a great connection and what a concert should be.

I highly recommend the show. If you even just like (vs love) prog rock, or early Genesis you just have to see this show. It will give you a whole new appreciation for how awesome this music is.

I was at Shepherds Bush last night and I thought I must leave a review to say what a great night it was.

Great track list, really good balance between old and new. Great to hear Get ‘Em Out By Friday and After The Ordeal which I haven’t heard live for many a year. I also though it very thoughtful and unselfish of him to play things like Cinema Show where keyboards feature heavily and is so appreciated by the audience.

Sound quality and balance was also excellent, much better that last year at Hammersmith which wasn’t up to their usual standard I thought.

To do a tour the size of the one he's doing and to play for nearly 3 hours is amazing.

Anyway one of the best concerts I’ve seen in a long while – and from the long standing ovation at the end I think my feelings are shared

Well done all round!

Been 50 yrs and Steve had clearly used the gap in our get togethers to practice. I've heard lots of Steve's post-Genesis music and liked it all a lot. The gig, however, just blew me away. The 2nd half reworking of a seminal Genesis work, Selling England by The Pound was absolutely amazing. Steve's band are exceptional and if anything I enjoyed their version to the original. The first half mixture of recent and older works were equally well presented. The audience were entranced by all the skills on show and Steve's stories. I'd recommend this tour and any others they may undertake. A full house showed their appreciation with a well deserved and loud and long standing ovation. The two bonus encore gift were equally brilliant. And then another ovation. Fantastic. Thanks Steve and gang.

Superb show.

Saw the band last year which was also good but this surpassed it.

The show has really evolved with better orchestration and much fuller production all round.

New drummer Gary O'Toole is terric as are Messrs Beggs, Silver, King, Alexander. While Steve continues in top form.

The first half comprised materiL crom Steves solo career inuding tracks from the new album. The new stuff sounding particularly fine.

The 2nd half was Genesis revisited with all the classic Hackett set pieces. Wind and wuthering best buts, Firth of Fifth and a classic Musical Box.

See tgis show if you get the chance.

Great night.

Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett rushed to Phoenix hospital as his concert was about to start

T he Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix was filled with fans awaiting the arrival of Steve Hackett on Saturday, April 13, when the Genesis guitarist was rushed to the hospital from backstage.

Hackett shared a photo of himself in a hospital room on Facebook Sunday afternoon to accompany a post about what happened.

"I’m so sorry for the scare," he wrote.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

"I’d hoped to power through the Phoenix show but I had a bronchial infection and a last-minute adverse reaction to medication. Consequently, the medics took me to hospital. I am now recovering and glad to be feeling okay. I was very sad to miss the show and I will return to play in Phoenix as soon as possible. My thanks to you all for your understanding and support."

The post was signed, "With warmest wishes, Steve."

Steve Hackett shares update while recovering in Phoenix

On Thursday, April 18, Hackett shared a blog called "Healing in the Heat" on social media updating fans on his condition.

"I'm really sorry I was not able to play the Phoenix show," he wrote.

"It was too dangerous for me to play with my bad reaction to meds for a bronchial infection and the medics had to rush me to the Valleywise Health Medical Center. Promotor Danny Zelisko is already making plans to enable me to play in Phoenix as soon as possible."

He loves playing "sunny Arizona," Hackett continued. "And the Tucson show was such a joy for us all with a fantastic crowd response!"

The blog went on to share the details of his time at Valleywise Health Medical Center.

"I was in hospital until the following evening and in and out of there for the next two days, while also continuing my recovery with Jo (his manager/wife) and our pals Leigh and Franck in their desert home near Phoenix," Hackett wrote.

"They were both amazing and their support was totally invaluable."

Hackett returned to the stage on Wednesday, April 17, in Guadalajara.

The tour is part nostalgia, part new material

The concert was part of a tour that features Hackett revisiting “Foxtrot,” one of several classic albums he made with Genesis, while also showcasing the highlights of “The Circus and the Nightwhale,” a solo album he released in February.

In an exclusive interview with The Republic , Hackett talked about the tour.

“I’m keeping the museum doors open in the revisited sense of Genesis,” he says, “but also doing new stuff to keep it vital so I don't entirely pension myself off into a glorious past with all those lovely exhibits, beautiful though they are, but they are of a certain time-warp value.”

When will the concert be rescheduled?

The tour was brought to Phoenix by Danny Zelisko Presents.

Zelisko says "Steve Hackett and the band will return to Phoenix in 2025. We are sorry the show in Phoenix can’t be made up any sooner."

Refunds will be issued for Steve Hackett in Phoenix

In the meantime, ticketholders' credit cards will be reimbursed for the tickets and fees through  celebritytheatre.com .

Zelisko adds, "We will send you a notice when we get a new date so that you can have first crack at the tickets for the new show. We are very, very sad and sorry for the trouble caused, which couldn’t be helped due to medical reasons."

If you purchased through a third party outlet, you will need to reach out to them to arrange a refund.

A trip to Moscow

I'm going to organize a trip this summer. I want to plan everything. I’ll fly from London to Moscow, and I also want to visit St. Petersburg. Could you, please, advise me what places I should visit? I’ll stay in Moscow for about 10 days before going to St. Petersburg. Thank you!

Not a country I’d be spending my money in at the moment.

Ditto. Ditto!

I don't really see the point of shunning a country because you don't agree with its leader and/or its government. Would you go to Italy? China? Tourist dollars are more likely to get into the hands of the people rather than any corrupt bureaucracy and meeting friendly tourists might just change the locals opinions of foreigners and even give them some information they don't get from local news media.

Hopefully , I won't be starting a war here , but I must say I agree with Chani's comments . Having taken three year visas in 2015 , we have been to Moscow and St; Petersburg ( once to Moscow , and twice to St Petersburg ) . The History , Art , Music ( I am a classically trained musician ) and Culture , fascinate us . Much to experience there and advance preparation is essential , To get a good grounding for your visit , read this lavish and detailed book by Suzanne Massie , it's one of the best ways to immerse yourself in what you will experience - https://www.amazon.com/Land-Firebird-Beauty-Old-Russia/dp/096441841X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1521652009&sr=8-1&keywords=land+of+the+firebird+massie&dpID=51CPK13XKGL&preST=_SX218_BO1,204,203,200_QL40_&dpSrc=srch

And while leaders of such countries can point to foreign visitor numbers as a sign of support ? I also believe that personal safety for certain travellers, especially obvious minorities, cannot be guaranteed, as fervent nationalism increases, and tolerance levels evaporate. Just as I may decide against a purchase at the supermarket because of a company’s behaviour, ethics will always be a consideration.

Well, I'd argue supermarket ethics does not readily translate to travel ethics - the latter is far more complex. Personally, I see the whole "vote with my hard-earned travel dollar" approach as overly simplistic, but if it's your position - I totally respect it.

What I don't understand is members volunteering ethical guidance in response to what seems an innocuous request for travel-related information.

Note a discussion on ethics hosted a year ago by the Webmaster of this very forum.

https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/general-europe/travel-ethics-612334a0-0ca1-4128-b088-c13d1d8a91c3

I appreciate Rick Steves' point of view in his "Travel As A Political Act". That said, Putin's Russia is not a place I would support. But, to each his or her own....

From a practical point of view, travel between the two countries can be difficult. I understand the Russians who traveled in the US this past winter had to go to the US Embassy in the country of Georgia to get visas because the Russians expelled American embassy personnel. If you do travel to Russia, you may be on your own. See the American travel advisory: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/russia-travel-advisory.html

Travel Advisory January 10, 2018 Russia – Level 3: Reconsider travel Reconsider travel to Russia due to terrorism and harassment. Some areas have increased risk. Read the entire Travel Advisory U.S. citizens are often victims of harassment, mistreatment, and extortion by law-enforcement and other officials. U.S. consular assistance to detained individuals is often unreasonably delayed by Russian officials. Russia also enforces special restrictions on dual U.S.-Russian nationals. Due to the Russian government-imposed reduction on U.S. diplomatic personnel in Russia, the U.S. government has reduced ability to provide services to U.S. citizens.

We have traveled to Moscow and St. Petersburg over the past few years. As in the US, most of the people we encountered helpful and not particularly political. In Moscow, we stayed at The Garden Ring Hotel which was a close walk to the metro. The hotel was very comfortable and quiet for being in the city. We loved the art museums and the Georgian restaurants. In St. Petersburg, we stayed at both The 3Mosta hotel near the Hermitage and the Art Hotel Demetra.. In St. Petersburg, we especially liked the Hermitage and Russian museum. Learning the Cyrillic alphabet and having a good map is a must.

As I think the point about ethical considerations has been made, please keep future replies more specific to the question at hand. Thanks.

Either read a good travel book or book a guide who can personally take you to the best places that interest you and tell about the sights you're seeing. We used Dan Petrov on 2 different trips to Moscow and found him to be wonderfully friendly and witty not to mention super knowledgeable.

Latest advice, Australian Governmemt, 1 April 2018. “Due to heightened political tensions, you should be aware of the possibility of anti-Western sentiment or harassment. While the Australian Government is not aware of any increased difficulties for Australians travelling in Russia at this time, you should follow the security and political situation closely and keep up to date with this travel advice. Remain vigilant, avoid any protests or demonstrations and avoid commenting publicly on political developments.”

We very much enjoyed our group trip to Moscow and St Petersburg last year. excellent guides and accommodations. While Steven who has replied here has excellent advice, ( and we took advantage of it), we felt an organized tour really facilitated our enjoyment of the country. You may want to consider a combination of an organized tour and than adding independent days . Some of the Australians on the tour had arrived a couple of days earlier than the tour stated and then some stayed later. If we were to go again (which I would), that"s how I would do it. And I must say , it was enlightening to have conversations with the Russian tour guides and the non Americans about the current world situation. Not that we went into any great depth, but I think we all went away with a little more understanding. Top places: allow lots of time in St Petersburg at the Hermitage- take a separate day for the Impressionist building. In Moscow, the Russian Art Museum was amazing.

Solid advice from Australian government quoted above, especially the keeping up to date part.

I checked the current version (Sep 18) of that advisory - and it hasn't been updated much. In fact, some sections don't seem to have changed since 2005 - their recommendations for importing/exporting currency and financial instruments, for example, are at least five years behind.

I do like reading governmental travel advisories for entertainment purposes - for instance, up until very recently the US one sternly advised potential travelers that Moscow was largely a cash-based economy (couldn't be further from the truth) and warned about intrinsic dangers of gypsy cabs (which had all but disappeared by 2015).

Roger spent the first twenty years of his professional life basking in the anonymity of the recording studio, making records with Gary Moore, Snoop Doggie Dog, Jamelia, Peter André, and a number of more obscure artists. He's worked on enough pop and house remixes to drive a lesser chap to despair and programmed, recorded and mixed soundtracks for movies (Cliffhanger, In The Name Of The Father, etc.). We fondly imagined that he had not, like every other musician on the planet, contributed wallpaper music to a series of horrible satellite channel documentaries, but a brief perusal of the Discovery catalogue dashed our hopes.

Largely through an accident of West London geography, Roger first worked with Steve in 1995, recording and mixing much of the original Genesis Revisited album. Four albums later, and with tenure apparently secured, he elbowed his way onto stage in 2001 and has remained behind the keys ever since. We've given up counting the albums, DVDs and concerts that Roger has contributed to over the years - too many for anyone's sanity, we're sure, but he and Steve remain on talking terms and he still seems to be enjoying himself. It's not easy to tell, of course - he's a taciturn cove...

Rob Townsend - sax, flute and percussion

Rob Townsend

Rob Townsend Photo © Kenny Mathieson

Despite a propensity for hitting things in a broadly rhythmic fashion, Rob Townsend started playing the sax when he got fed up with carting drums around and has never looked back. He's played nearly everywhere with nearly everybody but he's particularly made his mark in jazz, having worked with, amongst others, Sam Rivers, Eddie Henderson, Bill Bruford, Django Bates, Tim Garland, Laurence Cottle and James Taylor of JTQ fame. Using complicated algorithms and powerful computing, we can reveal that he has played more than 100,000,000,000,000 notes in his career to date, some of them more than once. Rob also likes to don a powdered wig and scowl like Beethoven whilst he writes and records reams of music for TV, film, computer games and other media. Nad Sylvan - vocals

Nad Sylvan

Nad was born in the USA but raised in Sweden by his grand parents. He began playing the piano at the age of four and started composing almost immediately. His first performance at age eight ended very suddenly with Nad fainting over the keys from sheer nervousness... a great way to start!

Having worked with ABBA's Michael B.Tretow, Rednex (remember Cotton Eye Joe?), being in and out of various bands, trying to write "hit songs" but never being in sync with time, Nad's dreams of success had almost come to an end when he was accidentally lured back into the prog rock scene...

In 2008 Nad was involved with the highly acclaimed Unifaun album; a project of original music paying homage to the 70's era Genesis.

The Unifaun album, and in particular Nad's voice (often described as a mix of Gabriel and Collins) caught the attention of Roine Stolt of The Flower Kings and Transatlantic. Together they formed Agents Of Mercy in 2009 and have released three albums to date; The Fading Ghosts of Twilight (2009), Dramarama (2010) and The Black Forest (2011) as well as touring extensively.

Then one day an email arrived in Nad's inbox: " Hi Nad, this is Steve Hackett... "

Jonas Reingold - Bass guitar & twelve string

Jonas Reingold

Jonas Reingold Photo © Joel Barrios

Jonas Reingold is a 48-year-old international bass player, composer and producer originating from Sweden. He started his musical career in the early 80ies. After his studies at the Music University of Malmoe, Sweden, he begun taking on freelance jobs, doing several session gigs, everything from Top-40 to musical/theater. Those early years he dedicated to expanding his professionalism, he was involved in many recordings and took on the musical lead of the highly acclaimed Sweden Bass Orchestra, a 6 bass - 1 drummer jazz piece. They released a CD with jazz-legend Niels-Henning Örstedt Pedersen as a prominent guest in 1995.

He joined the Swedish prog group The Flower Kings in 1999 and started to record and tour with the band. Their output to this date accounts to seven studio albums and many live recordings. A few years later he started his own progressive rock project Karmakanic. The debut release "Entering the Spectra" was a success and laid the foundation for the band that has until today put out five full studio albums and has been touring the world since 2004. Moreover, he is a long-standing member of UK-based "The Tangent", having contributed to seven studio albums and live tours. If that weren't enough, he is part of the legendary Swedish progressive outfit Kaipa with eight recordings since their comeback in 2002. Other prolific appearances include the 2016 release of Anderson/Stolt "Invention of Knowledge" featuring prog-god and YES vocalist Jon Anderson.

Jonas has been involved in over 130 CD recordings and done thousands of gigs over the years and is probably the most recorded musician on the leading German progressive record label Inside Out.

Nick Beggs - bass and related paraphernalia

Nick Beggs

Though Nick was originally schooled as an illustrator, at the age of 18 he chose an escape route through music after... yes you guessed it, dropping out of art school.

He signed his first record deal with EMI in 1982 as a founder member of Kajagoogoo, co-writing and co-producing the multi million-selling hit Too Shy along with the rest of the band's three album back catalogue. By 1987 he'd moved onto his second project, Ellis Beggs & Howard (RCA records), co-writing the hit single Big Bubbles No Troubles, and three years later he joined progressive folk band Iona, recording two albums and touring extensively.

Enough of a career for one man, you might think, but no: Nick has lectured on music at the The Academy Of Contemporary Music, The Guitar, Bass and Drum Tech, and The Liverpool Institute For Performing Arts, enjoyed a stint as A&R manager for Polygram Records, and toured and sessioned for John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin), Steve Howe (Yes), Kim Wilde, Howard Jones, ABC, Midge Ure, Right Said Fred, Belinda Carlisle, Englebert Humperdink and Cliff Richard. As a noted exponent of the Chapman Stick, he has also recorded two solo albums, Stick Insect and The Maverick Helmsman, which he continues to perform live throughout Europe.

Still a keen draftsman, Nick never takes to the road without a slew of sketchbooks to chronicle his travels. He also enjoys secreting himself in small places. Possibly to sketch - we just don't know...

Amanda Lehmann - guitar and vocals

Amanda Lehmann

After a musical career spanning over three decades, singer/songwriter/guitarist Amanda released her debut solo album Innocence and Illusion in 2021.

Originally classically trained on the piano, as a teenager Amanda fell in love with the power of the overdriven guitar. Self-taught, she went ahead and learnt tricks and tips from experienced players, all the time creating a style combining influences of rock, blues and folk.

Amanda's career has incorporated thousands of live shows, performing extensively around the UK with her own band in the 80s and 90s and latterly touring with Steve Hackett between 2009 - to date. She has previously released a solo EP 'Shadow' in 2010, and a duo album 'Wazzoon - Through the Haze' in 1994 (remastered 2021). In 2022, Amanda released a single 'One Last Spin' which she wrote to highlight the harms from gambling, then followed by a Christmas single 'An Old Christmas Day'.

Gary O'Toole

Gary O'Toole (Photo by Ben Fenner)

Drummer, singer, guitarist, teacher, and veritable polymath; Gary has been a top professional musician for over thirty years.

In addition to worldwide live appearances with Bucks Fizz, China Crisis and blues maestro Stephen Dale Petit he has a studio CV as long as your arm, drumming for top producers Marius De Vries and Richard Niles, and for a staggeringly diverse range of artists from Mel C to Kylie Minogue to Chrissie Hynde.

Not content to keep all this talent to himself, he's also found time to set up his own music school, teaching Steve Sidelynk (Madonna) and Coldplay's Will Champion, to name but two.

Gary has been a fixture in Steve's band since 2000, underpinning countless gigs from Stockholm to Santiago. He also caressed, cajoled and battered drums on, and lent his inimitable vocal talents to, the studio albums To Watch The Storms, Wild Orchids, Beyond The Shrouded Horizon and, of course, the latest release Genesis Revisited II .

Lee is also a sought after session musician and has performed around the world with a diverse roster of high profile artists including Take That, Rick Wakeman, Three Friends (with former Gentle Giant members) and It Bites.

He also has his own progressive rock band Headspace (also featuring Adam Wakeman) who were nominated in the Best New Blood category of the 2012 Prog Rock Awards.

Lee first performed with Steve's band in 2010 for a Japanese tour. He returned again for the UK tour in 2012, played on seven tracks on the Genesis Revisited II album and is now a member of the band for the Genesis Revisited live shows.

A lifelong fan of both Steve & Genesis he feels " Absolutely honoured, chuffed and excited to be involved in the album and tour. It's quite literally a dream come true for me to share the stage with Steve playing a set of Genesis songs; they've been my favourite band for over 30 years and I've been rehearsing for this tour since I was 14 years old! "

Phil returns to the fold in the autumn of 2011 after playing on the 2000 Tour of Italy with Steve.

In his spare time of which he has none, Phil likes swimming, cycling and motorsport.

Dik Cadbury - bass and vocals

Dik Cadbury

Dik Cadbury

Multi-instrumentalist Dik began his professional music career in 1971 with University Jug-Folk band Totem and went on to tour and record with Decameron from 1973, initally as bassist, vocalist and fiddle player and then as guitarist. When the band split in 1976 he opened Millstream Recording Studio in Cheltenham, installed John Acock as engineer and sought more live action. He joined Pekoe Orange in 1978 and shortly after that auditioned for Steve Hackett's new touring band. He joined John Hackett, Magnus, Hicks and Shearer in what Steve has referred to as his 'dream team', recording the much loved studio albums 'Spectral Mornings' and 'Defector'. In 1980 Dik and Decameron lyricist Dave Bell formed the jingle company Orijingles and a retro pub band The Teenage Idols to showcase their songwriting talents, and in 1983 Dik teamed up with former Manfred Mann singer Mike D'Abo to form society party band Mike D'Abo's Mighty Quintet, still performing today. Dik also joined international party band Top Catz as guitarist and MD. Following Millstream’s closure in 1989, Dik branched out into voiceover work ( www.voiceatility.net ), photographic modelling and acting, famously dying in an episode of the BBC's Dalziel and Pascoe. A solo album 'About Time', co-produced by John Acock, was released in 1999 (more at www.dikcadbury.com ) and he continues to write with Pete Hicks and Dave Bell as well as in his own right, occasionally performing solo. He has recorded and performed with numerous artists, including The Manfreds, Steve Ashley, Marcus Foster and many others. Twenty-nine years on from 'Defector' Dik is delighted to be back in the Hackett fold.

Dik played bass with Steve in Las Palmas and Lugano 2009.

In Moscow…

Hey folks, Tomsk,  and Krasnoyarsk Russia Alien Guitar Secrets classes were wonderful. Very packed with enthusiastic Russian friends. Arrived in Moscow on the 5th and appeared on a TV show that reaches 80 million Russians. I was jamming with the host. It was really quite good fun. From Oslo, we drove south back into Sweden, where we played in both Gothenburg and Malmo, again to fantastically appreciative crowds. It was fun to explore picturesque Gothenburg too, with its waterways alongside streets, reminiscent of Amsterdam.
