London travel news LIVE: Heathrow Airport hit with four-day Border Force strike amid M25 delays
LIVE – Updated at 09:09
Border Force workers have launched a four-day strike at Heathrow Airport in a dispute over working conditions.
The Public and Commercial Services (PCS) union said more than 300 of its members will take part in the industrial action, which started at 5am on Monday and will continue until 7am on Friday.
The union said the workers, based at Heathrow’s Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5, are protesting at plans to introduce new rosters they claim will see around 250 of them forced out of their jobs at passport control.
In other travel news, there were long delays on the M25 in Kent onto the M26 due to emergency repairs.
Morning rush-hour congestion was built up from Orpington, and nearly all the way back along to the M26, according to traffic monitoring site Inrix.
Follow latest updates below...
One lane closed clockwise on M25
One lane is closed clockwise on the M25 and there is queueing traffic for one mile due to stalled van.
Inrix, a traffic monitoring website, says this is taking place before J25 for the A10 Enfield.
Long delays on M26 over emergency repairs
There are long delays and one lane is closed due to emergency repairs on M26 westbound before the M25.
Emergency repairs are also taking place on the M25 both ways between J5 M26 / A21 (Sevenoaks) and Clacket Lane Services.
Congestion has built up from Orpington, and nearly all the way back along the M26, which is down to one lane.
Minor delays on Northern Line
Meanwhile, on TfL services, there are currently minor delays on the Northern line.
Passengers are also being warned to expect changes to Elizabeth Line services on Monday night.
Engineering work is taking place in the Paddington area, closing various lines.
It means a reduced service after 10pm, with two trains per hour running from:
Shenfield to Heathrow T5 (calling all stations)
Abbey Wood to Heathrow T4 (calling all stations)
Abbey Wood to Reading (not stopping Acton Main Line, West Ealing and Hanwell)
Heathrow passengers warned of disruption over strike
Heathrow passengers are being warned of possible disruption because Border Force workers have mounted a picket line in a four-day strike.
The union said the workers, based at Heathrow's Terminals 2, 3, 4 and 5, are protesting at plans to introduce new rosters they claim will see around 250 of them forced out of their jobs at passport control.
Separate refuel strike 'could cause Heathrow chaos' over May bank holiday
Separate to today’s Border Force strike, 50 refuellers are expected to take industrial action at Heathrow for 72 hours beginning on 4 May.
The employees at AFS refuel aircraft at Heathrow from 35 different airlines including household names such as Virgin, Delta, Emirates and Air France.
Union Unite says this will cause travel chaos. But in a statement, a Heathrow spokesperson said: “We are in discussions with our airline partners on what contingency plans they can implement, including using other fuel suppliers already operating at the airport.”

Train strikes in May 2024: Full list of dates and lines affected
Rail lines are set for disruption in the week following the first May bank holiday as train drivers at 16 rail companies strike on different days.
Monday 29 April 2024 09:17, UK
Train drivers will stage a fresh wave of strikes and overtime bans in May, causing disruption to the rail network.
The strikes are part of a long-running dispute over pay.
Members of Aslef union at 16 rail companies will walk out on different days from 7 to 9 May.
Additionally, all members will refuse to work any overtime from 6 May to 11 May.
Here is a full list of the services affected by strikes and when.
Rail strike dates
Tuesday 7 May
Strikes will affect c2c, Greater Anglia, GTR Great Northern Thameslink, Southeastern, Southern, Gatwick Express and South Western Railway.
Wednesday 8 May
Strikes will affect Avanti West Coast, Chiltern Railways, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, Great Western Railway and West Midlands Trains.
Thursday 9 May
Strikes will affect LNER, Northern Trains and TransPennine Express.
Overtime ban dates
From Monday 6 May to Saturday 11 May union members will not work overtime.
Overtime bans, an action short of a strike, means some services may not be running or may be reduced as drivers refuse to work their rest days.
People are advised to check before they travel, as some areas may have no service.
Keep up with all the latest news from the UK and around the world by following Sky News
How do strikes and overtime bans affect services?
Strikes tend to mean services on lines where members are participating are extremely affected or cancelled entirely, whereas overtime bans often lead to reduced services.
Are there strikes on the Tube too?
There have been regular strikes on London Underground too recently, and while there aren't any planned walkouts for drivers, customer service managers are set to walk out on Friday 26 April in a dispute over terms and conditions.
There will also be an overtime ban for the customer service managers on the following days:
Monday 29 April
Tuesday 30 April
Wednesday 1 May
Tuesday 2 May
Wednesday 3 May
Thursday 4 May
Friday 5 May
The Transport Salaried Staffs' Association (TSSA) says the action by its members is likely to cause Tube stations to close at the last minute, including on the Saturday following the strike (27 April), while TfL has said on its website "some stations may need to close at short notice".
Despite the warning, a TfL spokesperson has said they aren't expecting significant disruption.
This action follows strike action taken by the same workers on 10 April, which the TSSA said had a "real impact" with "many stations shut at short notice".
They say they are "extremely concerned" about TfL's 'Stations Changes' proposals.
"We have made it clear that our union will not accept the continued threats to our members' roles, locations, terms, and conditions to stand unchallenged," a TSSA spokesperson said.
"We will continue to take sustained action until London Underground is prepared to negotiate with us in good faith."
Commenting on the impending strikes, a TfL spokesperson said: "We are disappointed that TSSA is continuing with this strike action following a consultation process.
"While we don't expect this action will cause significant disruption, we urge TSSA to continue to work with us to help find a resolution.
"There are no planned job losses as part of these vital changes which will improve the service we provide to customers at our stations."

Why are the strikes still happening?
Aslef rejected a two-year offer of 4% in 2022 and another 4% this year, saying it is way below inflation, and is linked to changes in terms and conditions.
Aslef said train drivers have not had an increase in salary for five years, since their last pay deals expired in 2019.
The union said after its members voted overwhelmingly in February to continue taking industrial action, it asked the train operating companies to hold talks.
General secretary Mick Whelan said the year-old pay offer of 4% and another 4% was "dead in the water".

I use this every time I go to London
This app is invaluable! I travel alone & am American , even tho this summer will be my 4th UK trip I am not comfortable going around London without a map ! . My first trip( 2016 ) it took me about 30 min every am & night to plan my journey etc ! I still got lost and my phone battery would die from constant use. This app allows you to find the tube line you need and w a spare battery you should be fine alone! I’m 60 and stay in Victoria area ( my fav) buy need no help now largely bc of this great app!
When an app feels this good
As a tourist in London finding this app was amazing, but it goes beyond usability and into art. This app is such a great example of thoughtful and precise design. I’ve kept it on my phone after leaving London just to continue to fiddle around with it and continue to discover additional layers of loveliness.
Simple, clean, functional
Fantastic job by the dev team, one of the easiest travel apps I’ve ever used. Displays the map very clearly, shows you everything you want to see. Perfect

Travel information | Spurs vs Arsenal, including details of TfL track closures
Fans attending our home Premier League derby against Arsenal on Sunday (kick-off 2pm UK) are advised to take note of the following travel information, which includes details of TfL track closures....
Reminder - Regional Coach service available
Our Regional Coach service, operating from a number of destinations, including new routes within Spurs supporter heartlands, is available for all home matches.
Scheduled track closures
There are several scheduled track closures in London on Sunday including the Bakerloo Line and sections of the London Overground.
There will be no service on the Bakerloo Line for the entire day.
On the London Overground: There will be no service between Wandsworth Road and Clapham Junction until 10am. There will be no service between South Tottenham and Barking Riverside until 12.30pm, there will also be no service between Barking and Barking Riverside before the match and there will be no service between Euston and Watford Junction throughout the day.
Please note that Bruce Grove and Silver Street stations will be closed two hours post-match on Sunday 28 April.
White Hart Lane
Six trains per hour are expected to call at White Hart Lane in both directions two hours pre-match and two hours post-match, all trains will be made up of eight carriages. This service will reduce to four trains per hour in both directions outside of these times.
Supporters travelling to Liverpool Street post-match are reminded that Northumberland Park services have greater capacity to those from White Hart Lane and are faster because they have fewer stops.
White Hart Lane is a fully accessible station.
Tottenham Hale
Tottenham Hale is a fully accessible station with access to and between Victoria line and Greater Anglia services. Greater Anglia platforms are fully accessible from the concourse, which has entry and exit ramps. Supporters are advised that the escalator descending to underground services is currently out of use. The lift is still in use. Please allow extra time for queues or, alternatively, use Greater Anglia services to Liverpool Street and Stratford stations.
Supporters using the Victoria line, including wheelchair users and those with limited mobility, are advised to use Tottenham Hale rather than Seven Sisters as it is a shorter journey to and from the stadium.
Northumberland Park
Greater Anglia will operate two trains per hour northbound pre-match between Liverpool Street and Cambridge North, Stratford and Hertford East and Stratford and Meridian Water calling at Northumberland Park to provide six trains per hour before the match. The half-hourly northbound Stansted Express trains will call at Northumberland Park after the match to provide eight trains per hour.
There will be 10 trains per hour operating southbound via Northumberland Park throughout the day. Of these, two trains per hour will operate each way between Liverpool Street and Hertford East, Liverpool Street and Cambridge, Stratford and Bishops Stortford and Stratford and Meridian Water, respectively. The Stansted Express will be in operation before and after the match, increasing the service to 10 trains per hour.
Supporters are advised to use Northumberland Park if using Greater Anglia services as it is a shorter distance to the stadium than Tottenham Hale.
Seven Sisters
Victoria line services will be operating every 2-3 minutes in both directions pre and post-match.
Pre-match, the Birstall Road diversion route will be in place at Seven Sisters station for interchange between the Victoria line and London Overground services to avoid congestion on the northbound platform.
Queue management
Queue management systems will be in place at all stations.
Supporters are asked to respect and work with staff at our stations and follow their instructions at all times.
At each station, the support staff provided are in contact with the Station Managers and platform staff who will direct them as to when it is necessary to put in place and release ‘queue holds’. It is therefore essential that you follow their guidance for both your own safety and the safety of those around you.
The Club does not tolerate any form of abuse towards the teams that are located at these transport hubs to assist you on your homeward journeys and reserves the right to take appropriate action against anyone found to be acting in an aggressive and/or abusive manner towards staff.
We thank you for your co-operation.
Shuttle buses
Supporters are reminded that the Club operates a free Shuttle Bus service from Wood Green (Piccadilly Line) and Alexandra Palace (Great Northern) stations to the stadium.
The Great Northern line will operate at five trains per hour each way through Alexandra Palace throughout the day.
For supporters wishing to cycle to the stadium, bike stands are available at Tottenham Community Sports Centre and St Francis De Sales School, which are both located on the High Road. Dedicated bicycle parking is also available on-street around the stadium.
Although our Bag Policy still applies, stewards will be briefed regarding cyclists’ need to carry helmets, puncture kits and removable seats into the stadium.
Road closures
Please note, our major event day road closure measures will be in place.
TfL bus services will return to normal operation as soon as possible after the local road closures are lifted. More information on road closures can be found below.
