The Jewels of the Cyclades small ship cruise is a voyage unravelling the authentic, whitewashed islands of the Cyclades. Discover much-loved or unknown gems with rich history, incomparable light, translucent water, heavenly beaches, white & blue buildings. Dazzling white villages, golden beaches and clear azure water are just the start of what these islands have to offer. Ancient Greek geographers gave this unique cluster of islands the name Cyclades because they saw that they formed a circle ('kyklos" in Greek) of sorts around the sacred island of Delos. According to myth, the islands were the debris that remained after a battle between giants. In reality, they resulted from colossal geological events like earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.  Their colours are blue and white like the Greek flag. The islands come in all sizes and, though the ingredients are the same – incomparable light, translucent water, heavenly beaches, lustrous white buildings and bare rock, each one has its own distinct character...

Hi WOW what a super trip. Flights, transfers etc all worked like clockwork. The Galileo is fantastic, really good food, super crew, lovely cabin with excellent air conditioning. There were actually only 19 passengers, which meant there was plenty of space and an almost family atmosphere. I was travelling alone and the only down side was that with such small numbers only one of the excursions went ahead- not really a problem as it made me make a bit more effort and use local buses! Loved the places we visited, so easy to get ashore, had 2 transfers by tender to super beaches and 2 lovely long sessions swimming from the boat. Thank you for your efficient organisation of a holiday that ticked all the boxes. Best wishes  Jackie Casswell - 13/08/2023

Asimina Tours was established since 2005 and has been in business for 16 years.

Asimina Tours physical location and our headquarters are located in the state of Maryland and all transactions take place in the United States.

Our travel advisors are home-based.  Thanks to the internet we are able to travel and can work virtually as well.  Don't be surprised if you talk to your travel advisor that may be located in either the USA or Canada or even Greece or Italy or Turkey.  Regardless of location, we are very proud to be an American based tour company conducting business in the USA.

Regardless of where our travel advisors are located when you call Asimina Tours you call the United States to either our toll free eight hundred number or our local Maryland phone number. Toll Free:   877 833-3454 Local Maryland Phone Number:   301 789-2388 and then your agents extension

It's best to set a phone appointment with your travel advisor at a time that mutually benefits both.  In addition for group travel, we can also set up a conference call to include different parts of the country (USA/Canada) so we can have a group discussion as well.

Communication for Asimina Tours is very important to ensure that we have a good feel of what you are looking to experience and to share with you what best fits your travel needs.

Once your travel advisor assesses your needs and creates your travel itinerary quote all details of your accommodations, their websites, types of rooms etc. will be included.

Unlike many travel companies we are not restricted to a handful of preselected and pre-negotiated hotel choices to create pre-packaged vacations.  We work with the majority of the hotels “directly” and in some instances we may have favorite hotels that we may recommend.   Our direct collaborations help us receive the best pricing possible and it builds our brands’ trust and acknowledgement which ultimately concludes in our clients personal and best service!

Do you prefer 5-star luxury resorts or smaller boutique hotels? Perhaps you’d like to mix things up with a simple hotel in one area but then follow that up with a few days of pampered self-indulgence in more luxurious surroundings? What about activities? You may like more activities in one location or less in another.  As you see not one trip is alike therefore we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all types of itineraries with pre-arranged activities hotels and pricing.   The beauty of a tailor made vacation is created ideally just for you at your travel budget!

Yes because we work with the majority of our suppliers directly therefore eliminating third parties and earning competitive rates.

All prices of all quotes are in USD

Because of the euro being volatile we use an average euro exchange rate to create your tailor-made travel packages. The trip quotes are proposed to you in USD as they are already converted for you.  All transactions take place in the USA eliminating questions about pricing and all prices are in USD.  A price quote is valid for 7 days from the time of proposal because of the fluctuation of the currency. Upon a deposit, the price of the quote is locked eliminating any further changes to the pricing of your itinerary.

Yes, we make the adjustments within reason.  After your quote it may take up to 2 times maximum to adjust your trip.  If  more adjustments need to take place then the non-refundable plan 2 go fee will be requested and a $100 per adjustment fee will be applied to your itinerary/quote.

We are proud to offer you our professional expertise for your tailor-made travel to ensure your travels are as seamless and trouble-free as possible. A non-refundable plan-to-go fee of $375 is included in your itinerary/quote and is not associated with commissions.  Depending on the itinerary/quote, the non-refundable plan-to-go fee may be requested to be paid upfront before sending an itinerary/quote.

Our custom tour services are tailored to your interests and personal schedule and are not part of a pre-packaged tour.  These are fee-based services, which include individualized tour planning and communication. The plan-to-go fee covers our associated costs and the time we invest in researching all available possibilities to make your vacation the most enjoyable.

Your itinerary quote and invoice also indicate the plan-to-go fee.

We earn our income by negotiating special net rates as a wholesale tour company with the hotels and suppliers.  Our pre-negotiated wholesale contracts allow us to receive competitive pricing.  Due to the volume and our excellent financial relationship with our suppliers our clients benefit from the competitive rates plus our service.  We in turn earn our commission and the hotels and suppliers get their services sold as well.  It's a win/win/win for everyone.

We are a Travel Operating Company providing complete tailor-made land packages and are bound by confidentiality agreements with our suppliers. We do not itemize services.   This is a standard practice in the travel industry, whether it’s a pre-packaged group tour or a custom tailor made package as in your case. We act as your one-stop shop, so you don’t have to go through the trouble of searching and booking and paying each aspect of your trip separately.

With your itinerary/quote, we do provide hotel web links and the types of rooms quoted so you can at have an idea about hotel costs which account for the majority of your itinerary/quote. In addition, we regularly check that the overall price/quote is competitive with online rates.   When comparing prices, keep in mind that our prices already include taxes and fees and are in USD (dollars).  Some hotels sometimes offer special online deals that may be fully non-refundable and fully pre-paid in advance.  In such cases, if you wish to qualify for such restrictive rates please advise your travel advisor.

Lastly, when you book through Asimina Tours you also receive top notch customer service that you would not get via other online agencies.  This includes * Expert advice pre-trip planning * 24X7 phone support should any problems arise during your travel * Due to our long-term volume relationships with hotels and suppliers, if last-minute upgrades are available, you will get a better chance at free upgrades!

Once you discuss your travel plans with your travel advisor you will receive an itinerary quote.  Once you have done all the necessary adjustments and you are in agreement with everything the next process is the booking process.   * Your itinerary is "on request" basis until you advise your travel advisor that you are ready to book. * Your travel advisor will then confirm all services prior to a deposit * Once all services are confirmed then a 25% deposit is required * When the deposit is received you'll receive all reconfirmations and a date of final payment which is 60 days prior to your trip * 60 days prior to your trip you'll make your final payment * Approximately 3 weeks prior to your trip you'll receive your electronic travel documents.   * You'll set up a time to discuss your travel documents and to answer any questions prior to your travels * While you are traveling you have 24/7 support from your travel advisor * Our job is not complete until you return back to the USA with rave reviews!

Jewels of the Cyclades Itinerary

The 8-day Jewels of the Cyclades cruise begins and ends in Athens, Greece, showcasing Aegean Islands known for their whitewashed villages and ports, bright skies and crystal-clear waters.

Jewels of the Cyclades route map.

Embark today between 2:00 and 3:00pm from Marina Zea in Piraeus, Athens, Greece. Enjoy a welcome drink and meet the crew and fellow passengers. Athens, the capital and largest city in Greece, is a bustling and cosmopolitan metropolis, and is one of the world’s oldest cities. Its recorded history spans at least 3,000 years and it boasts ancient monuments and works of art, the most famous of all the Parthenon on the Acropolis. In the afternoon, sail for Poros for a short 3-hour visit, before setting sail to Poliegos. Overnight at sea.

Galileo, Panorama, Harmony G

This morning, arrive in Poliegos, a very small island known for its amazing beaches. Enjoy a morning swim stop followed by a BBQ on deck. This afternoon, sail to Folegandros, one of the most amazing and less known islands in the Aegean Sea, where three small villages, Chora, Karavostassis and Ano Meria, are connected by a paved road. Walk the amazing Upper city and dine at one of the traditional Greek tavernas. Overnight in Folegandros.

breakfast and lunch or dinner

Early this morning, depart for the volcanic island of Santorini, with the biggest caldera of the world. Today’s shape of the island is a result of a huge eruption followed by a catastrophic explosion in the 16th century, which had destroyed the island and the city of the Cycladic Civilization. Upon this morning’s arrival at Santorini, explore its capital Fira. Take an optional excursion to the Akrotiti excavations and a tour of the villages, including the small beautiful village of Oia known for its breathtaking view over the caldera. Overnight in Santorini.

In the morning, enjoy a swim stop in an enchanting bay of Antiparos before arriving in Paros around noon. Visit Parikia and the quaint village of Naoussa. In the evening, get ready for a fun night and show off your dancing skills during the ship’s famous Greek Night. Overnight in Paros.

This morning, consider an optional morning tour to the archaeological site of Delos, antiquity’s most sacred island. Except for the guards and guides, the island is uninhabited. According to the Greek Mythology, Leto, haunted by jealous Hera, had found asylum on this island to give birth to Zeus’s children, Apollo and Artemis. Apollo became one of the most important gods and so Delos became a great sacred place for worshiping him. Later on, stop at one of Mykonos’s beautiful bays for swimming off the ship before sailing into the port of Mykonos. The island of the jet setters is yours to explore and the night is young. Overnight in Mykonos.

After a morning swim, arrive in Syros, the capital of the Cycladic islands, which was the largest cultural and trade center of the Aegean in the 19th century. From the time of the Fourth Crusade (13th Century) until 1568, Syros belonged to the Duchy of Naxos. After that period the island had a significant Roman Catholic minority which was under the protection of France from piracy and during the Turkish occupation. Spend the day strolling along one of many beautiful sandy beaches or walking through town and admiring the architecture. Overnight in Syros.

In the morning, arrive in Kythnos for a swim in Kolones Bay. Kythnos, or Thermia, is part of the Western Cyclades and is considered an unspoiled island with very friendly locals. Its major attraction is a fairly well-known healing thermal spa that attracts many Greeks and foreign visitors. The colorful quaint villages of Kythnos, with their traditional houses and the peaceful landscape, will not disappoint. Set sail for Marina Zea for a later afternoon arrival via Cape Sounion, the temple of Poseidon. This evening, be treated to the captain’s farewell dinner and overnight in Marina Zea.

A couple sails aboard the 49-guest Galileo motor sailor in remembrance of their Greece honeymoon cruise 21 years prior. The classic Galileo ship turned out to age like a fine wine, creating a new opportunity for a family vacation.

Hear It from Travelers Who Have Explored with Us

We wanted to revisit the experience from our Greece honeymoon 21 years earlier. The run up to our departure was marked by informative emails, setting and managing expectations. No complaints, all very smooth.

40 people of different ages, from different parts of the world. We loved the diversity of the people on the ship. Everyone seemed to enjoy everyone. A small ship allowed us to meet and become friends with everyone on the boat. Truly a great experience.

It was exactly what I was hoping for. The crew were experienced, friendly, and safety conscience. Plus everyone had a great time. I would like to check out the other destinations that variety cruises offer. They have been in business since 1949, and they know what works and what does not work, Greece is a beautiful country with centuries of history.

We wanted to revisit the experience from our honeymoon 21 years earlier. The Galileo has been carefully refurbished since we sailed with her in 1997. The food was even better and the itinerary was fine tuned. The planned swims off the boat were also well-received. We enjoyed Paros and Folegandros, both for their small size and accessibility. Delos for the mind-boggling history. We least enjoyed Santorini and Mykonos, one and done. But they are each the 'brand name' islands and seemingly must be visited.

Accommodations Review

The staterooms were clean, airy, cool and well-appointed.

Meals Review

The meal plan was very smart: breakfast each day, and either lunch or dinner each day. That left a very good blend of being able to explore on the islands. The fish was generally superb. I don't recall any dishes that were sub-par.

Crew & Guides Review

Joseph was very good. A cruise director is part guide, ombudsman, comedian, ring leader. Joseph blends all components very well. I particularly liked his admonition to not advise vendors or restaurants of our boat, so that he would not be spiffed for recommending one spot over another.

AdventureSmith Explorations Review

Very good preparatory materials. The run up to our departure was marked by informative emails, setting and managing expectations. A very nice touch was the reading suggestions, which I leveraged to immense enjoyment. Packing tips were well-received. No complaints, all very smooth.

Traveler Advice

Read a couple of the suggested books beforehand and en route, do the Delos tour and when landing at Myknos and Santorini, get as far away from that port as possible.

Featured in this Traveler Review

They were clean and well maintained.  But this isn’t a Class A boat with 5 star accommodations, so “excellent” doesn’t enter into the description.

Glad we were able to have a lunch or dinner on shore. This allowed us time to truly enjoy each place we visited. Breakfast buffets were very good. Lunch’s good. The “Greek night” dinner was very good, but the 2 others were just average.

Itinerary Review

We loved Folegandros & Paros. Both provided a more laid-back experience. Beautiful places with excellent shopping & restaurants. We loved the adjustment’s the captain made to allow us more time to swim and snorkel. This pleased everyone on the ship. We also loved the diversity of the people on the ship and the fact that everyone enjoyed everyone. The fact that this was a small ship allowed us to meet and become friends with everyone on the boat. Truly a great experience.

[We least enjoyed] Santorini & Mykonos. You can leave these 2 famous places for the large number of cruise ships that frequent the shores. Very crowded and not much fun...though we imagine they might be very nice when not overflowing with people. But we’re equally sure there are a lot more islands in the Cyclades that would be even more enjoyable to visit.

The cruise director, Viki, was very nice and professional. But sometimes our communication wasn’t great. The captain was a very nice man and seemed to go out of his way to accommodate the desires of the guests on his ship. We’d rate him as excellent and would definitely sail with him again. Local guides: we only did 1 on-shore guided tour on Santorini. We didn’t enjoy it, so chose to not do any others. Other fellow travelers felt the same, although those that did choose to do the guided tour of the heritage site of Delo’s found it very interesting and informative.

All information was great. The only item we weren’t expecting was the high temps (mid 90’s) of August. This was a last minute trip for us. We feel fortunate that everything worked as planned.

If possible, avoid traveling to this area in August. Very crowded and hot...We learned that August is not the time to do this trip. Way to many cruise ships. Way too hot this time of year (mid 90’s with high humidity). These 2 items did affect the overall enjoyment of the trip.

Very nice. I believe our cabins were cleaned twice a day. It was always clean. Actually the whole ship was spotless.

The ship had excellent food preparation and it was delicious. I like the variety of a buffet, with Greek cuisine, therefore, giving me the opportunity to try foods I would not normally eat. The welcome dinner and the captains dinner was excellent. Also enjoyed having the chance to try out the local restaurants, and local wine and beer.

I enjoyed enjoyed all of the islands, especially swimming, exploring off the ship and small coves. The water is so clear. I also enjoyed the tours, with knowledgeable tour guides, explaining the history of the islands and the many ruins. [We least enjoyed]...Mykonos. Too crowded, over priced restaurants, and poor service. Santorini was beautiful, and the captain made sure we arrived before the crowds of people. Three cruise ships arrived, with thousands of passengers, it was like Disney World. An hour wait, to take the cable car back down. We only had to experience that for a short time.

Most or maybe all the leaders of the tours, had local experience, education in their field of expertise, with multiple university degree's in Archeology, and related fields, and friendly. Some times it was difficult to understand. The use of whisperers was very helpful.

Fellow Passengers Review

It was nice meeting people from all over world, with like minded interest.

Very good information, put together, regarding where I was going, about the ship, and what to expect.

Per fellow travelers, June and September are the best times to visit. The summers can get very hot, and very windy, We just happened to have rainy weather., in September, But it did not effect the overall trip.

Athens - jewels of the cyclades cruise.

  • Folegandros

Kolona Beach in Kythnos

The cruise of your dreams awaits you! Combine a trip to the historic city of Athens with a cruise around the Aegean islands and get the best of both worlds with this incredible opportunity. After you've had your fill of ancient monuments, museums and contemporary art in the capital, via the meticulously planned half day city tour , you will embark upon a jewel of a journey with the Jewels of the Cyclades cruise. First stop is the small island of Poros where you will get a taste of the quiet life in a hidden gem of the Saronic Gulf which serves as a preferred destination by locals. Then comes a special treat as you will stop for a swim in the uninhabited island of Polyegos , a place very few people have ever set foot on. Back on the less-traveled trail with Folegandros , a picturesque island on the Southwest Cyclades. Natural beauty and local delicacies set the scene in a tranquil environment that has a surprisingly calming effect on most visitors. Anchors aweigh once more, this time for one of the most popular Greek destinations and for good reason. You will be welcomed to Santorini , home of exquisite local wines, magnificent beaches laid with volcanic pebbles and of course a stunning golden sunset compared to no other.

A more traditional view of Greece will follow, with Paros . After a quick swim at Antiparos (Paros' sister island), the Cycladic heaven of white and blue houses, sandy beaches and fishing taverns will be your base for a couple of days. Your worries wash away in view of the calm Aegean blue that extends as far as the eye can see. Departing from Paros means the start of a whole different experience as two worlds are about to clash! The historic island of Delos is basically one big testament to the ancient Greek civilization and your visit there will feel like you suddenly find yourselves in 3000BC, so better pack some sandals. From the old to the new, and to an island with world renowned nightlife and a taste for the luxurious. Mykonos will dazzle you with bars, clubs and restaurants of the highest caliber in the midst of a traditionally Cycladic environment. Entertainment is to be found in every nook and cranny of the cosmopolitan island so enjoy yourselves away!

While nursing a hangover after a crazy night, you will arrive to Syros , one of the greenest islands in the Aegean. Try the local cuisine and take a swim in one of the island's isolated beaches because there is only one short stop left on this wonderful journey before you return to Athens. Kythnos will signal off the conclusion of this majestic experience and give you the chance to see folklore art at its finest. As you approach the port of Zea, one thing is certain: when you look back on this vacation you will be mesmerized by how much diversity is packed in such a small country and congratulate yourself for making the decision to join this cruise.

7 Day Jewels of the Cyclades

Cyclades: Dazzling white villages, golden beaches and clear azure water are just the start of what these islands have to offer.

7 nights Variety cruise

Professional English speaking cruise escort

Tours as per itinerary

7 Breakfasts, 3 Lunches, 4 Dinners

Cruise by M/S Galileo

Optional Santorini: Island tour, villages, legends of Atlantis on day 3

Duration: 4.5 hours

Includes: Bus, guide, entrance fee

Price: 80 euro per person

Disembark by tender and board the cable car to reach the island’s capital Fira for a guided walk through the narrow pedestrian streets. Board the bus for a pleasant drive through the countryside passing the village of Pyrgos to the famous archaeological site of Akrotiri. If Santorini is known as the Greek Pompeii it is because of ancient Akrotiri. Excavations uncovered an ancient town frozen in time by ash from an eruption some 3.600 years ago. Remains of sophisticated buildings with great frescoes and other constructions are evidence of an elaborate lifestyle.

Continue by bus to the northern coast admiring views of land, sea and skies to reach Oia, the most picturesque village of Santorini with its magical views over the Caldera. Our local guide will take you to the most photographed blue domes, to insight spots and will give you hints for your time at leisure. A short drive will bring you back to Fira.

Optional Paros: Marble & Olive, Authentic Greece tour on day 4

Price: 66 euro per person

Next to the port of Parikia, stands gracefully the church of Ekatontapiliani (the church with the hundred gates), one of the most important Byzantine monuments in the whole Greece. The Church, built in the 4th century AD, is dedicated to Virgin Mary. The visitors entering the cathedral can admire its dome and the old byzantine icons. Hiding up in the mountains unspoilt, authentic villages like Lefkes and Marpissa are full of little traditional whitewashed houses, mixed with Venetian architecture, wonderful churches, whitewashed windmills and beautiful dovecotes. At Marpissa, we visit the folklore museum, which is a representation of a typical house of Paros, with traditional old furniture, a loom, utensils and various other objects. The cosmopolitan Naoussa on the other side, has preserved the feeling of the pristine fishing village it truly is, beautifully mingling with the elegant atmosphere of the modern venue that it has become. Full of shops, taverns and bars, is one of the most famous nightlife destinations in the Aegean. After our stroll we will have some free time and will then return to the ship.

Optional Delos: Triumph & Turmoil, Birthplace of Gods tour on day 5

Duration: 3-4.5 hours

Price: 55 euro per person

In antiquity, Delos was considered to be the spiritual and commercial centre of the Aegean. After a short ferry/ tender ride disembark on the island and gather for an introduction before proceeding with your lecturer guide on a unique walk through the original streets of the site’s best-preserved quarters. There you will see Hellenistic houses with beautiful mosaics in amazingly good condition, further along you will come to the Sanctuary, where you can see the ruins of a temple dedicated to Apollo – Delos being Apollo’s mythological birthplace – while over the Sacred Way you will see the famous five 7th century B.C. marble lions, guardians of the Sacred Lake. On to the Theatre and the Roman quarter, where you will find ancient statues dedicated to Dionysus and optionally visit the museum with its interesting exhibits.

* Above tour price is only valid when our vessel will be permitted to arrive directly to Delos (subject to authority and weather conditions). Alternatively, the tour will be operated from Mykonos by a small ferry with a supplement of € 22 per person.

Optional Syros: Aristocracy, Elegance and Concorde tour on day 6

Duration: 4 hours

Includes: Bus, guide, entrance fee and local meze treat

Syros has been continuously inhabited for 7000 years, and together we will explore why its path through history has been completely different than the rest of Greece. Admire the European influence which created a distinctive blend of Neoclassic, Byzantine, Venetian and Greek culture, present everywhere.

Our tour begins at Ano Syros, the center of Greek Catholicism in the Aegean region. This traditional neighbourhood is built high up on a hill above the port – we will enjoy stunning views as we stroll through its picturesque narrow alleyways, passing by the Catholic Cathedral of San Giorgio, the Jesuit and Capuchin monasteries, the churches of San Sebastian and Virgin Mary di Karmilo.

We then head down to the glorious, aristocratic merchant town of Ermoupolis, a neoclassical wonder of rich houses, iconic public edifices, and marble-paved streets. Admire the impressive Town Hall, the Apollo Theater (a miniature version of Scala di Milano) and the elegant Captain’s Quarter overlooking the sea. Last, but not least, we visit the local grocery, fish, fruit and pastry market, a chance for a culinary experience. Taste authentic recipes of the Cycladic cuisine at our small family taverna.

An ever-changing tour where the locals are always ready to surprise us with something new, every time!
