How to Set Cruise Control on 2022 Honda Crv?

How to Activate Cruise Control on 2022 Honda CRV

Cruise control is a useful feature that allows you to maintain your desired speed while driving. It can be especially helpful on long trips, making it easier to stay at a constant speed without having to constantly adjust the gas pedal. The 2022 Honda CRV is equipped with cruise control, and activating it is a simple process. Here are the steps to set cruise control on your 2022 Honda CRV.

Step 1: Locate the Cruise Control Switch

The first step to activating cruise control is to locate the cruise control switch. This switch is usually located on the left side of the steering wheel. It is usually labeled with a “CRUISE” label and is often accompanied by a “SET” and “RES” button. Once you have located the switch, you can move on to the next step.

Step 2: Set the Desired Speed

With the cruise control switch located, you can now set your desired speed. To do this, press the “SET” button until the desired speed is displayed on the instrument panel. The speed can be adjusted by pressing the “SET” button or the “RES” (resume) button. Once the desired speed is set, the cruise control is ready to be activated.

Step 3: Activate Cruise Control

To activate cruise control, press and hold the “CRUISE” switch until the indicator light illuminates on the instrument panel. Once the indicator light is illuminated, you can release the “CRUISE” switch and the cruise control will be activated.

Step 4: Adjusting the Cruise Control Speed

Once the cruise control is activated, you can adjust the speed by pressing the “SET” or “RES” buttons. To increase the speed, press the “SET” button. To decrease the speed, press the “RES” button. You can also adjust the speed by pressing the “+” or “-” buttons located on the steering wheel.

Step 5: Deactivating Cruise Control

When you are finished using cruise control, you can easily deactivate it by pressing the “CRUISE” switch again. This will turn off the indicator light on the instrument panel and the cruise control will be deactivated.

Step 6: Adjusting the Cruise Control Resume Speed

The 2022 Honda CRV also has the ability to remember your desired speed when you deactivate the cruise control. This is known as the “resume speed” and can be adjusted by pressing the “RES” button. You can adjust the resume speed by pressing the “RES” button until the desired speed is displayed on the instrument panel.

Step 7: Using Cruise Control in Rainy Conditions

It is important to note that cruise control should not be used in rainy or icy conditions. This is because the car’s traction control system may not be able to keep the car at a constant speed in these conditions. If you must use cruise control in these conditions, make sure to adjust your speed accordingly.

Step 8: Using Cruise Control on Steep Hills

Cruise control should also not be used on steep hills. This is because the car may not be able to maintain the desired speed due to the incline of the hill. If you must use cruise control on a steep hill, make sure to adjust your speed accordingly.

  • Lows Quicker rivals with mightier engines exist, some competitors can tow more, noisy base engine at wide-open throttle.
  • Verdict The CR-V's lack of panache and driving personality are offset by its desirable technology, practicality, and fuel economy.

What's New for 2022?

There are no changes to the CR-V lineup for the 2022 model year. However, we've captured some spy photos of the next generation , which is expected to debut as a 2023 model . Along with a cleaner design and the potential for a third row, the next CR-V will likely offer a gas-only and a hybrid powertrain. An all-electric model could also be in the works.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The price of the 2022 Honda CR-V starts at $28,045 and goes up to $39,045 depending on the trim and options.

We think the EX Hybrid is the CR-V to get. Not only does it come stocked with popular standard features that include blind-spot monitoring, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, it's more refined and fuel efficient than the gas model. While our chosen eco-minded CR-V doesn't offer any options, it comes standard with all-wheel drive.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Honda did its homework planting its first turbocharged engine— a 1.5-liter unit that makes 190 horsepower—in a CR-V and pairing it with one of the best continuously variable automatic transmissions (CVTs) available—praise we don’t give lightly. While most compact crossovers have meager towing limits, the CR-V has one of the lowest at 1500 pounds. Any parent moonlighting as a street racer might be disappointed with the CR-V’s acceleration. On the other hand, they—along with everyone else—will appreciate its refined ride, enthusiastic steering, and strong brakes. The composed and compliant ride of the CR-V makes for pleasant commutes, long or short. Its responsive brake pedal means you receive the stopping power you want when you ask for it. The CR-V hybrid is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder and two electric motors that combine for 201 horsepower. We found the hybrid system to be smooth and unobtrusive , and we appreciated that Honda mitigated engine drone at wide-open throttle by adding sound-deadening materials and giving the audio system an active noise-canceling feature. This provided a much quieter experience than the base engine, which was one of the loudest in its class when matting the gas pedal.

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The CR-V is available with two engine choices that are frugal when it comes to consuming fuel. The front-drive, gas-only model is rated at 28 mpg city and 34 highway; all-wheel-drive models are rated at 27 mpg city and 32 highway. We tested a CR-V with all-wheel drive on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route, which is part of our extensive testing regimen , and it earned 28 mpg. The hybrid CR-V is estimated to earn 40 mpg city and 35 highway. However, the Toyota RAV4 hybrid is rated at 41/38 mpg city/highway. In our real-world testing, the hybrid Honda earned 32 mpg on the highway, but the Toyota beat it by 5 mpg (37 total). For more information about the CR-V's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website .

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

A stylish and spacious interior creates a cool and comfortable environment in the CR-V. Quality materials and a familiar layout combine for a contemporary look and feel. A tasteful balance of faux-wood accents, chromed plastic, and brushed-satin finishes looked particularly upscale in the Touring version we tested. Supportive and nicely sculpted front seats hug their occupants in all the right places. Leading its class in cargo volume and luggage space, the CR-V not only earns high marks in those subjects, but also by way of its inclusion of user-friendly and useful equipment. We managed to fit 10 carry-on suitcases behind the rear seat, which matched the CX-5 and the Ford Escape . Fold the back seat flat, and the Honda offers best-in-class luggage space.

Infotainment and Connectivity

An otherwise excellent presentation is offset by Honda’s frustrating infotainment system. Base LX models come with a 5.0-inch color radio screen, but all other models get a 7.0-inch infotainment touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM satellite radio; navigation is optional, as is a nine-speaker audio system. Honda reintroduced a rotary volume knob last year and we appreciate that, but a lack of other controls, slow infotainment responses, and the absence of an auxiliary input can’t be forgiven.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Overall safety rating (nhtsa).

The Honda also comes standard with a suite of driver-assistance technology to help prevent collisions from happening in. For more information about the CR-V's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ( NHTSA ) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety ( IIHS ) websites. Key safety features include:

  • Standard forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking
  • Standard lane-keeping assist and lane-departure warning
  • Standard adaptive cruise control

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Honda covers every CR-V with limited and powertrain warranties that are competitive with most other manufacturers. The Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage are the exceptions, besting Honda and company with an unrivaled 10-year or 100,000-mile powertrain warranty. Their limited warranty is significantly better, too.

  • Limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles
  • Powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles
  • No complimentary scheduled maintenance

Honda CR-V Versus the Competition

Honda cr-v vs. toyota rav4.

The Toyota RAV4 is a well-rounded compact SUV that’s one of the CR-V’s chief rivals. Both of these small crossovers have a refined cabin, great fuel economy, ample second-row space, and plenty of standard active safety features. The Toyota comes with a longer list of standard infotainment features and a more user-friendly touch screen, but the Honda has a few more cubic feet of cargo space, as well as smoother and swifter acceleration.

Honda CR-V vs. Subaru Forester

The Subaru Forester comes standard with all-wheel drive, which is rare in this class. It also has a touch-screen infotainment system in the base model – an option in the CR-V. Both SUVs are among the class leaders for cargo and passenger space, and they both have a pleasing interior and a long list of active safety features. The Forester's engine, however, is a little underwhelming compared with the CR-V's.

CR-V Interior: Stylish and Spacious

Cr-v interior quality.

The CR-V’s cabin is among the most spacious in the class, and it’s also attractive and upscale, making it one of the best interiors in the segment.

CR-V Infotainment, Bluetooth, and Navigation

Infotainment is one of the CR-V’s few weaknesses. Most rivals have more standard infotainment features, such as touch screens and smartphone connectivity. Those features come in all trims but the base trim of this Honda, but even when equipped with the better infotainment system, you’ll find that the menu layouts aren’t intuitive and the response times are slow, making the system frustrating to use.

  • Standard infotainment features: a 5-inch display, a four-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, and a USB port
  • Available infotainment features: a 7-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a six-speaker stereo, an eight-speaker stereo, a nine-speaker premium stereo, satellite radio, HD Radio, additional USB ports, wireless device charging, and navigation
  • Additional standard features: automatic climate control
  • Other available features: dual-zone automatic climate control, a moonroof, and remote start

CR-V Cargo Space

Few class rivals provide as much cargo space as the CR-V. It gives you 39.2 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 75.8 cubic feet with the rear seats folded down.

How Many People Does the CR-V Seat?

This Honda seats five people. Both rows of seats are roomy, with the rear seats ranking among the most spacious in the class. The seats are comfortable and supportive as well, and drivers enjoy good visibility.

CR-V and Child Car Seats

There are two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the CR-V’s rear outboard seats and a tether anchor for the rear middle seat. The rear middle seat also has a lower anchor, and it can borrow a lower anchor from the driver's side passenger seat.

CR-V Performance: Reasonably Quick and Impressively Fuel-Efficient

Cr-v engine.

The CR-V features a 190-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The turbo-four provides great acceleration, both from a stop and at higher speeds, and the transmission operates smoothly.

CR-V Gas Mileage

Not many competitors can match the CR-V’s fuel economy ratings. It gets 28 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway in front-wheel-drive models and 27/32 mpg city/highway in all-wheel-drive models.

There’s also a Honda CR-V Hybrid , which we review separately.

CR-V Ride and Handling

The CR-V delivers a comfortable ride and is easy to drive. It handles with poise on winding roads, though it's not the most athletic SUV in the class.

CR-V Towing Capacity

When properly equipped, the CR-V can tow up to 1,500 pounds.

Which Honda CR-V Model Is Right for Me?

The 2022 Honda CR-V comes in five trims: LX, Special Edition, EX, EX-L, and Touring. All models come standard with a 190-horsepower turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). Front-wheel drive is standard. All-wheel drive is optional in every trim – except the Touring, which comes with all-wheel drive – for $1,500.

Though the base model comes with plenty of active safety features, it’s worth stepping up to the Special Edition or EX trims, which come with many more infotainment and comfort features.

There’s also a Honda CR-V Hybrid , which we cover in a separate review.

Honda CR-V LX

The CR-V LX carries a base price of $25,750. Standard features include cloth upholstery, automatic climate control, a 5-inch display, a four-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, and a USB port.

Standard driver assistance features include forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, road departure mitigation, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and a rearview camera. Some of these features are part of the Honda Sensing suite of technology.

Honda CR-V Special Edition

The CR-V Special Edition sports a starting MSRP of $26,950. In addition to the base trim’s features, the Special Edition comes with heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, push-button start, remote start, a 7-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo, an additional USB port, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay.

Honda CR-V EX

The CR-V EX starts at $28,260. The EX gains a power-adjustable driver’s seat, a moonroof, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, additional USB ports, HD Radio, and satellite radio.

Honda CR-V EX-L

The CR-V EX-L costs $30,850. Standard features include leather upholstery, a power-adjustable passenger seat, a power liftgate, and an eight-speaker stereo.

Honda CR-V Touring

The range-topping CR-V Touring retails for $33,550. The Touring is the only trim to come standard with all-wheel drive. It also adds a heated steering wheel, a hands-free power liftgate, navigation, a nine-speaker premium audio system, and wireless device charging.

The Final Call

The 2022 Honda CR-V does just about everything well. It’s roomy, comfortable, upscale, and easy to drive. It also gets good gas mileage and comes with plenty of standard driver assistance features. Most rivals have more infotainment tech, and some are more fun to drive, but the CR-V is one of the best all-around choices in the compact SUV class , and every small crossover shopper should give it a look.

Don't just take our word for it. Check out comments from some of the reviews that drive our rankings and analysis.

  • "Whether you're looking for a daily commuter, errand runner, or small family vehicle, the Honda CR-V is a perfect fit for a wide range of drivers." -- Kelley Blue Book
  • "The 2022 Honda CR-V won't accelerate anyone's heartrate, but its capacious interior and fuel-efficient powertrains make it a compelling compact crossover. In fact, it's one of our favorites." -- Car and Driver
  • "If you’re in the market for a compact crossover SUV, the 2021 Honda CR-V must be on your test-drive list. Like its archrival the Toyota RAV4, the Honda CR-V has been around for over two decades and cultivated an enviable reputation for reliability and high resale value. Moreover, it’s just a pleasure to own and operate." -- Autotrader (2021)

2022 honda cr-v review.

2022 honda cr v cruise control

  • Quick acceleration plus thrifty fuel economy
  • Roomy interior with cavernous cargo capacity
  • Rides comfortably yet handles corners athletically
  • Plenty of thoughtful storage areas
  • Touchscreen can be finicky to use and lacks a separate tuning knob
  • Below-average towing capability

What's new

  • All-wheel drive is now standard on the top-level Touring trim
  • Part of the fifth CR-V generation introduced for 2017

This latest-generation Honda CR-V debuted for the 2017 model year, meaning it's one of the oldest small SUVs on the market. And yet Honda has somehow come up with such a compelling overall package that the CR-V is still one of our top recommendations. Whether it's space, comfort, driver enjoyment or value, the Honda pretty much has you covered with the CR-V.

Honda CR-V for Sale

Other than the Touring trim adding standard all-wheel drive, the 2022 Honda CR-V is pretty much unchanged. That's hardly a bad thing, all things considered. The CR-V does face off against some other compelling small SUVs. The redesigned Nissan Rogue and Hyundai Tucson offer great value, for example, and the Mazda CX-5 stands out with its sleek styling and pleasing performance. Which one to get? Check out our CR-V Expert Rating below to help you decide.

What's it like to live with?

The current CR-V was hugely impressive when it made its debut, so Edmunds purchased one for our long-term test fleet. We racked up more than 40,000 miles before it left our hands, and you can read all about what it was like to own . Note that while Honda has made some updates since we tested that 2017 CR-V, most of our impressions still apply for 2022.

Crash and Rollover Tests

Honda vs. other new car brands, owner reports, 2022 compact suvs ratings.

In most cases, automotive warranties are based on the vehicle identification number (VIN), and the warranty will be valid regardless of ownership. The dealership can tell you exactly how much warranty is left.

  • 1.5-liter 4 turbo (190 hp)
  • 2-liter 4 hybrid (212 hp)

The 2023 redesigned the CR-V gained size and weight, but didn't stray far from its proven formula of practicality and functionality. The 1.5-liter turbo-four mated to a CVT delivers unobtrusive propulsion, but it feels underpowered at times. At 26 mpg overall, fuel economy has regressed. The more fuel-efficient hybrid version combines a 2.0-liter engine with an electric drive got 35 mpg overall. The CR-V's ride is firm but absorbent, and handling is responsive and secure. The rear seat is generously-sized and easy to get into. A relatively simple and boxy shape gives the CR-V ample cargo room. The controls and infotainment system are easy to use. All CR-Vs come with the Honda Sensing suite, which includes numerous active safety and driver assistance features. Unfortunately, BSW and RCTW aren't available on the base LX, and are optional only on the EX and EX-L.

The redesigned CR-V gains features, space, and refinement. The base model is fitted with a carryover 184-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. Upper trims sport a 190-hp, 1.5-liter turbo. A continuously variable transmission is standard and works well with both engines. Fuel economy from either engine is impressive. Handling is more nimble and sure-footed, and the firm ride is steady and compliant. Road noise has been suppressed, resulting is a quieter cabin. The interior is very comfortable and roomy, particularly the rear seat, and more upscale. An available 7-inch touch-screen infotainment system offers Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility and Garmin navigation, but its touch screen logic isn't particularly intuitive. Forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot warning come standard on all but the base LX model. Updates for 2020 include a hybrid version added to the lineup; it returned 35 mpg overall in our tests. Also new is that the base LX model gets the EX's 1.5-liter turbo engine, and the Honda Sensing suite of advanced safety features is now standard on all trim lines.

Honda sells a lot of CR-Vs, and with good reason. Rear seat room and cargo space are generous, plus compact dimensions and responsive handling make it easy to park and unintimidating to drive. The 2015 freshening brought a redesigned 2.4-liter four-cylinder mated to a new continuously variable transmission (CVT). Fuel economy improved by two mpg to 24 mpg overall with all-wheel-drive. Handling was improved, but the ride became stiffer. Road noise is slightly reduced, but remains noticeable, a perennial CR-V complaint. This update also brought more equipment, including a standard backup camera, a power driver seat for the EX, and an available power rear gate. EX and higher trims gained an unintuitive touchscreen infotainment system and Honda's LaneWatch, which shows what lurks on the right side of the car when signaling to the right. We find this system distracting; it's no substitute for a real blind spot detection system that covers both sides. Honda Sensing advanced safety equipment, including forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, is available on the top-trim Touring. Added reinforcements from the 2015 update improved the CR-V's performance in the demanding IIHS small overlap crash test.

The fourth generation CR-V brought a little more space and marginally better power and fuel economy. Most importantly, it brought better crash protection, a standard rear view camera and contemporary Bluetooth connectivity. A smooth engine and transmission facilitate unobtrusive and efficient motivation. Road noise is still rather pronounced. The ride is comfortable, but handling is not particularly agile. The rear seat is very accommodating and a handy strap helps fold it away with one motion.

Compared to earlier CR-Vs, the third generation became sleeker and more polished. With a roomy rear seat, easy access, flexible interior, and improved handling, it ranked among the best compact SUVs of its time. Rounded styling reduced cargo room and visibility, but the new tailgate was more user-friendly than the previous swing-out door. The smooth 2.4-liter four-cylinder provides adequate acceleration and 21 mpg overall. A 2010 update brought a welcome boost in power, significantly improving acceleration with no effect on fuel economy. Handling is responsive and fairly agile, with a steady and composed ride. Stability control is standard. Our major complaint is that constant road noise makes the cabin loud, which becomes tiresome. Improved crash protection means we'd stretch to buy this version of the CR-V over the previous generation.

The CR-V, new for 1997, was Honda's first foray into the small sport-utility market. Based on the Honda Civic platform, it looked more like a high station wagon than an SUV. It had a permanent all-wheel-drive system, but it was not meant for serious off-roading. The ride was compliant and carlike, but handling was just OK. The engine was fairly noisy, and acceleration was less than sizzling. And while the seats were comfortable, the stretched-out driving position was tiring. A front-wheel-drive version and a five-speed manual transmission were added for 1998, and the engine received 20 more horsepower (145 total) for 1999.

Honda CRV: How to Set Cruise Control

Cruise control is a cool way to put your Honda CRV on autopilot so to speak. In this setting, the vehicle can maintain speeds of 25mph or more without having to press the accelerator. However, it will not set at below 25mph. In addition, the feature disconnects when the brake is applied. Albeit this is a wonderful feature, be aware that cruise control can be dangerous on winding roads, in traffic, and on wet slippery or icy roads. With that being said, here are the uncomplicated steps to follow to set your Cruise Control.

Enable Cruise Control:

  • When your vehicle speed has reached 25mph or faster, press the MAIN button located on the RIGHT side of the steering wheel.
  • An ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control) icon will appear in the dash screen to notify you that the system is ready for you to use.
  • Once you have reached the speed you want to set, press the -SET button.
  • To INCREASE the speed press the RES+ button.
  • To DECREASE the speed press the -SET.

—————————————————————————————————————————————–

3 Options To Cancel Cruise Control:

  • Press the CANCEL button in the MIDDLE of the steering wheel.
  • Press the MAIN button.
  • Press the BRAKE pedal.

*Pressing the DISTANCE button located to the RIGHT of the cancel button will RE-ENGAGE your previous cruise control settings.

  • Main (On/Off) – Press to turn the system ON/OFF; Be sure the system is OFF when not using it, as if RES/+ or -SET is active, you could accidentally hit either, which will cause your vehicle to enter cruise control mode
  • SET/− (Set/Coast) – Used to set or decrease your desired speed
  • RES/+ – To maintain the desired speed or to accelerate the set speed. To increase the speed press this button. Each press will increase the speed at 1 mph faster.

**NOTE: If you are unable to activate this feature on the first try, REPEAT the steps. If you are still unsuccessful, contact the dealership for assistance or consult your vehicle user’s manual.

Mastering the Honda CR-V Cruise Control: A Comprehensive Guide

Are you curious about the adaptive cruise control feature in the 2023 Honda CRV? Let’s dive into how it works and how you can make the most of it.

Located on the right side of the steering wheel, there are three buttons that are key to utilizing this feature effectively. The first button activates the cruise control, the second button adjusts the following distance, and the third button enables the lane departure system.

Once activated, you can set the cruise control to maintain your desired speed, up to 90 miles per hour. If you approach a slower vehicle, the adaptive cruise control will automatically adjust your speed to match the car ahead. When you signal to change lanes, the system will accelerate back to your set speed once you’ve passed the vehicle.

Furthermore, the lane departure system provides additional safety by alerting you if your vehicle drifts out of its lane and gently guides it back to the center.

If you have any further questions about these features in the 2023 CRV, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. We’re here to ensure you have a thorough understanding of the advanced technologies in your vehicle.

How to use just the Cruise Control

  • Add to quote

I have never used the cruise control on my 2020 ex-l crv since I bought it, just never had the need. Recently I decided to give it a try and I'm ashamed to admit it but I couldn't get it to work. I didn't want the ACC just the normal cruise control. Is there a way to use the normal cruise control without involving the ACC. I've read the manual a dozen times and I still can't get it to work, so I must be not be doing it right. Thank you.

Give the ACC a try, you might surprise yourself. I love it and have never used the regular CC.

Maybe I will but I'd still like to be able to fall back on the normal cruise control if I need to. I should just go to the dealer but it's a long way to go in busy traffic so I have been putting it off.

Have you considered swinging by your dealer and getting them to demonstrate it? Far better than folks typing out "how" when dealerships can "show"....

Or Google it

2022 honda cr v cruise control

I don't think it is possible to use it as a normal CC (mind you I could be wrong) I rarely use mine but when I do it works really well

Thanks Grpass, I took your advice and googled it and found a video that explained it perfectly. All I needed to do was to press 2 buttons and I'm back to using regular CC. Can't wait until tomorrow to try it out. Thanks fellas for all of the good suggestions.

which 2 buttons

Here is the video I found that explains it better than I could

Jeeze.....glad they didn't put that on older models....I would never figure it out. Actually I couldn't even figure out WTH y'all were even talking about til I watched the video. It's a conspiracy I tell ya- they're just trying to keep old folks off the road.

I'm a fan of Adaptive cruise control in the CRV. I don't think I will ever touch the regular CC ever again. The low speed follow is the icing on the cake. But, even then there are cases in which it gets confused (mainly due to external factors). So you can take help from all these safety/convenience systems, but better be ready to do the manual override all the time. One system I wish was defaulted to On from start is 'Brake Hold'. Can't think of a situation where one would not use that function.

AAC is very good. For the new user, just be prepared to hit the Cancel button as road conditions change. By that I mean, read the road and where possible Cancel the AAC and take back control or as already said, Honda sensing can and will apply the cars brakes. Had it a few times happen and now know when to switch off or not use. All In all it works well.

@Jbobber I see that you are new here, so welcome! For the benefit of all who visit the site, we do run a tight ship....With that said... This is a discussion about how to use the CR-V Cruise Control, not about Google. Let's continue the discussion about cruise control. Thank you!

Snow or heavy rain will disable most of the advanced safety systems, which includes AAC cruise control. When this happens, I toggle to "dumb" cruise control until the safety systems are active again.

Now that is a good idea. It never occurred to me to use standard CC when ACC won't work. I probably wouldn't be able to remember to press and hold one second while on the road anyway. Would switching to standard CC get rid of the annoying messages that come on when snow covers the radar?

2022 honda cr v cruise control

Turn on the cruise control and while it is on, press the cruise control button at the 3 oclock position and hold it for like 3 seconds. That switches it into traditional cruise control and back. Give the ACC a try and you won't go back to regular cruise control, I drive like 75% of the time in ACC, even in stop and go traffic.

Definitely check with a Honda dealer or a good YouTube video for pointers on how to use ACC. I HIGHLY recommend it. It’s a real fatigue fighter on not just long drives but also stop and go urban traffic. I use it all the time. My CRV is a 2018 Touring model. My only minor anxiety relates to what someone following behind me sees as far as my vehicle’s brake-lights are concerned. (Can another forum reader who knows enlighten us?) When ACC slows and/or stops my vehicle, does someone following me see the same type of “brake light behavior” as would be the case if I was controlling my vehicle’s progress in traffic?

The ACC is a safety application. What happens if you have it turned off and rear-end somebody and cause injuries? An insurance investigator could easily figure out the ACC was disabled and create all kinds of issues. Frankly I'm surprised Honda allows it ti be shut off.

I think your assessment is flawed. ACC is an option available on some cars, not all, usage is totally at the drivers discretion. There are driving conditions that could make ACC more hazardous to use than regular CC, or no cruise at all. However, if your rear end another car under any circumstances, you are generally going to be found at fault.

2022 honda cr v cruise control

I’m not a fan of the ACC. Someone drives in front of me and car slams on the break. Note you all are going to say it suppose to do that, safety. Well it doesn’t do that in my Toyota. I can have some one drive in front of me and it will gradually slow down while keeping distance. I trust this system more then my Honda. Feel like I’m going to get rear ended one of these days.

If you did get rear-ended, the blame is on the idiot driving too close to you from behind. Leaving a sensible gap is not something every driver does and we're all guilty of it.

ACC is the best. Drove from MD to TX with a trailer and the ACC just made drive easy. I set it to 3Bars with speed of 80mph. I was not as stressed as I think it would have been if there was no ACC. Would definitely recommend it.

Please try using ACC. They are wonderful and safe and works really well. Try it and you will be surprised. With ACC your CR-V will do most of the work. You need to be alert at all times. I am and it has never made a mistake yet. Only time I have noticed it didn't response quickly is in heavy traffic when someone cuts in your lane with small distance between your car and the one in front of you. Use the ACC feature. It's a life saver. It works and you have paid for the technology to make your life easier. Enjoy!!!

I accidentially disabled the ACC -- and couldn't wait to get it back. you might want to try both ways...

Thank you for asking this question. I didn't think ACC could be disabled and it doesn't work sometimes when there is snow on the car.

  • Unlock the door with a key (if the key is inside, a ruler will do as well)
  • Open the door by pulling the handle
  • enter and close door.
  • Lower the window (no AC anyway)
  • Adjust the seat and mirrors manually
  • Put the seat belt
  • Put the key into the steering slot
  • Rock the steering and turn the key once to disable steering lock
  • Turn the key second time to get into accessory mode
  • Pull the choke
  • Press the clutch
  • Move the manual gear lever to neutral
  • Crank the starter motor
  • Not starting, forgot to pray..
  • Give a bit more gas pedal input
  • Crank again. (Assuming it started)
  • Give it a healthy amount to accelerator input till the engine stabilizes
  • Release the choke (leave it on if you want to drive in boost mode idiot)
  • Slot in to first gear (this car can start in any of the 4 gears it has)
  • Slip the clutch and give some more gas input
  • Vehicle stalled.. oh forgot the hand brake. Release it by a. Pull up a lever a little, b. pushing a button on the lever, c. Release the lever all the way down.
  • If you can't find that button, it means the lever cover is loose and covered the button, push it back.
  • Repeat steps from 8 to 19
  • Finally it gets going..
  • Unlock the door while opening it with the key in your pocket
  • Close the door
  • Press the brake pedal
  • Push start button
  • Press gas to get going.

That brings me to a question: (Mods feel free to move this if it is too off topic.) Does regular use of the brake hold feature reduce the life of the brake linings?

I doubt it, as they only wear when there is movement causing friction. The brake hold only takes hold when the vehicle is stationary. Another question: regarding cruise control use with Brake Hold. If brake hold is active (car stopped), and one presses RESUME, will the car go, or is a press on the accelerator needed?

I am completely aware of the dangers of using cruise control on slippery surfaces, etc. The Honda cruise control works in tandem with the traction control system. If any wheel spins, even briefly, the cruise control will immediately disengage and a message will appear on the dash display. Often, the cruise control will disengage faster than I can respond.

2022 honda cr v cruise control

I was not aware of that feature. Thanks! I will still be very careful with the CC and because of issues with my right foot and leg, I need CC as much as possible.

No, messages will still remain until weather conditions improve.

Thanks to its well-balanced mix of comfort, space, equipment, and economy, the CR-V has long been praised for delivering excellent bang-for-buck . How The 2024 Honda CR-V's New Hybrid Trim Raises The Bar

The sixth generation Honda CR-V was introduced in 2023, and aside from the addition of a new Sport-L hybrid trim, everything has stayed the same for 2024. That's to be expected of a model that has just been comprehensively redesigned, and the addition of another hybrid trim now adds a bit more choice for customers.

2024 Highlights

  • Sport-L trim adds another hybrid option to the range
  • Hybrid models offer good performance and great fuel economy
  • Comprehensive driver assist systems standard across the range
  • Spacious interior and decent equipment levels throughout

Exterior Dimensions

The 2024 Honda CR-V is offered with two engine options. The base models are fitted with a 190 horsepower 1.5-liter turbocharged engine that is mated to a CVT transmission. FWD is standard, with AWD available as an option on all trims. Performance is acceptable rather than invigorating , with the 0-60mph sprint taking 8.7 seconds according to independent testing.

The hybrid models are fitted with a 2.0-liter gas engine that is assisted by two electric motors. Combined output figures are 204 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque. This gives the hybrid CR-V a bit more pep, taking over a second out of the 0-60mph time, and delivering better overtaking acceleration than the 1.5-liter motor. FWD is standard, with AWD an option on all but the top-spec Sport Touring Hybrid (which gets it as standard).

Performance Specifications

Towing capabilities and payload capacity.

It is unlikely that many owners will be buying a compact SUV to hook their boats up to. Still, they may want to tow a small trailer occasionally. The non-hybrid CR-V is best suited for this task, as it is rated to tow 1,500 pounds which is 500 more than the hybrid variants.

Off-Road Capability

If you plan to do any sort of off-roading in your CR-V we'd tick the AWD option box. This raises ground clearance from 7.8 to 8.2 inches and provides better traction on dirt or gravel roads. The Sport Touring Hybrid trim comes standard with AWD, but it is also fitted with larger 19-inch Gloss-Black Alloy wheels, so the lower-spec trims may be a better bet for some light off-roading as they come with higher profile 18-inch wheels. Non-hybrid models also offer slightly better approach and departure angles.

2024 Toyota RAV4 Vs 2024 Honda CR-V: Which Stands Out More?

Best interior features of the year make model.

  • Larger interior dimensions means more space for passengers
  • Sharp new interior design is practical, too
  • Hybrid models now offer the same cargo space as the rest of the range

The previous generation Honda CR-V was known for its spacious and comfortable interior . The new model, however, takes this to a new level. With its slightly larger dimensions, it now offers even more interior space, making it an ideal choice for up to five adults.

The new interior design looks great and lends an airy feel to the cabin. Heating and power adjustment for the driver's seat as well as a one-touch power moonroof are standard on all but the base LX trim. The top three trims also get leather instead of the standard cloth seat covers.

Cargo space has always been a CR-V strong point, and it continues to be the case. Hybrid models now also offer just as much space in the back as the gas-powered versions. With 39.3 cubic feet available behind the rear seats, the CR-V offers more space than the Toyota RAV4, Subaru Forester and the Mazda CX-50.

The new generation Honda CR-V has upped its tech game, but most of the desirable features are limited to higher trims, and some rivals are still one step ahead. All trims get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, although wireless connectivity and wireless charging aren't offered on the LX, EX or Sport Hybrid trims.

They are also saddled with a 7.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, while the higher EX-L, Sport-L Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid trims get a larger 9.0-inch system. It is a responsive system and pretty intuitive, but many rivals offer larger screens and fully digital instrument clusters, too. To sum up, the Honda CR-V offers a decent level of tech, but you will have to pay up for the higher trims to get it.

*EX is 40 inches due to lack of moonroof

The Honda CR-V has received a Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS , scoring highly in all but the front moderate overlap test, where it received a poor rating. The NHTSA has not finished comprehensively testing the CR-V, but most results so far have fallen in the 5-star category.

There has been one recall so far for a passenger seat that was not properly welded, but of more concern are the inordinately high complaints by customers. In 2023, 310 complaints were registered, with 2024 already showing 102 complaints. Issues have ranged from driver assist malfunctions to electrical problems, but the highest by far has been for steering system issues. Many customers have experienced a sticking or non-responsive steering while driving. Interestingly, there have been just 5 complaints in total for the hybrid variants in both 2023 and 2024.

Driver Assistance Features

Honda has fitted its Honda Sensing driver assistance suite as standard to all CR-V trims. It includes a comprehensive package of assistance devices such as a cross traffic monitor, blind spot assist, and collision and road departure mitigation systems.

Standard driver assist features across all trims include:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Collision mitigation braking system
  • Road departure mitigation system
  • Lane keep assist
  • Traffic sign recognition
  • Auto high-beam headlights

Battle Of The 2023 Crossovers: 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan Vs 2023 Honda CR-V

There are no surprises when it comes to Honda's warranty offering for the CR-V. All new models are offered with a 3-year limited warranty which also includes roadside assistance, while the powertrain is covered for an additional 2 years. Servicing is not included in the purchase price, so customers will have to buy one of the vehicle service contracts on offer.

You certainly aren't limited for choice in the small SUV segment, and the new CR-V is up against some tough competition from several manufacturers. It still fills the brief better than most, focusing on core requirements like interior space, comfort, practicality and pricing. So, to see whether it still has what it takes, we have chosen the impressive Kia Sportage and Toyota RAV4 as its competitors.

How The Honda CR-V Compares To The Kia Sportage

The Kia Sportage has evolved from a mid-level competitor to one of the most impressive offerings in its class over a few short years. The latest model arrived in the US in 2023 and offers a wide range of trims and options to cover just about every base. The base 187 horsepower 2.5-liter gas engine is a bit anemic, while the 227 horsepower hybrid version is much quicker and more economical.

Tech features are impressive, too, with all but the lowest trims getting a 12.3-inch touchscreen and 12.2-inch digital instrument panel. Kia's class-leading warranty and competitive pricing add to the Sportage's appeal, although some of the more desirable trims can get pricey.

How The Honda CR-V Compares To The Toyota RAV4

The original Toyota RAV-4 is often cited as one of the first ever compact SUVs, and it has evolved into a pretty impressive offering over the years. But the competition hasn't been standing still either, and the current generation has been around since 2019. That puts it at a slight disadvantage when compared to newer rivals, but it still offers plenty of safety features, high levels of practicality, and a wide selection of options.

The base trim is really basic, and you won't get much speed or driving enjoyment out of the standard 203 horsepower 2.5-liter engine, but the overall capability of the RAV4 has helped it fend off newer alternatives , and it remains very popular in its class.

The CR-V offers a comprehensive list of safety devices across the range, but you will need to skip the base LX trim to access the more desirable tech and comfort features. This is true of many rivals, but the CR-V does start off at a higher base price than most.

The best value to be had is in the $32,000-36,000 range, where you can have either a highly specified gas-powered model, or a mid-range hybrid.

Here's Why The 2023 Kia Sportage Is Better Than The 2023 Honda CR-V

The Honda CR-V offers competitive fuel economy figures, with the FWD hybrid models offering the best results with a combined average of 40 MPG. The 1.5-liter turbocharged gas models can manage 30 MPG in FWD trim. This is similar to the Kia Sportage, but falls short of the gas-powered Toyota RAV4.

GAS/HYBRIDS

The Honda CR-V is a competent and fuss-free family SUV that offers impressive interior and cargo space, as well as all the safety features you'd expect from a newly released model. It doesn't excel in one particular area, but there are no glaring shortcomings either.

That may seem like a lukewarm analysis, but a small SUV is expected to perform a variety of tasks without issue, and the CR-V is as practical, comfortable and refined as they come. You may want to pay a bit extra for one of the hybrid models if you do a lot of driving, as you will appreciate the better performance and economy. If your focus is more on luxury and tech, then the mid-spec EX and EX-L models will fit the bill perfectly.

Features of the macrostructure and microstructure of uranium dioxide powders are considered. Assumptions are made on the mechanisms of the behavior of powders of various natures during pelletizing. Experimental data that reflect the effect of these powders on the quality of fuel pellets, which is evaluated by modern procedures, are presented. To investigate the structure of the powders, modern methods of electron microscopy, helium pycnometry, etc., are used. The presented results indicate the disadvantages of wet methods for obtaining the starting UO 2 powders by the ammonium diuranate (ADU) flow sheet because strong agglomerates and conglomerates, which complicate the process of pelletizing, are formed. The main directions of investigation that can lead to understanding the regularities of formation of the structure of starting UO 2 powders, which will allow one to control the process of their fabrication and stabilize the properties of powders and pellets, are emphasized.

Note: The data cut-off for this product was 2:15pm ET on March 27. ISW will cover subsequent reports in the March 28 Russian Offensive Campaign Assessment.

The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU) released its 38th report on the human rights situation in Ukraine on March 26, confirming several of ISW’s longstanding assessments about Russia’s systematic violations of international human rights and humanitarian law in occupied territories and towards Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs). [1] The HRMMU report details activities between December 1, 2023 and February 29 2024, and includes new findings about Russia’s abuse of Ukrainian POWs during this timeframe, based on interviews with 60 recently released male POWs. [2] Nearly all of the POWs that HRMMU interviewed detailed how they were tortured by Russian forces with beatings and electric shocks and threatened with execution, and over half of the interviewees experienced sexual violence. HRMMU also reported that it has evidence of Russian forces executing at least 32 POWs in 12 different incidents during the reporting period and independently verified three of the executions. ISW observed open-source evidence of several POW executions during this reporting period: the execution of three Ukrainian POWs near Robotyne, Zaporizhia Oblast on December 27, 2023; the execution of one Ukrainian POW near Klishchiivka, Donetsk Oblast on February 9, 2024; the executions of three Ukrainian POWs near Robotyne, the execution of six Ukrainian POWs near Avdiivka, Donetsk Oblast, and the executions of two Ukrainian POWs near Vesele, Donetsk Oblast on or around February 18, 2024; and the execution of nine Ukrainian POWs near Ivanivske, Donetsk Oblast, on February 25. [3] The summary execution and mistreatment of POWs is a violation of Article 3 of the Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War. [4] The HRMMU report also details the forced Russification of Ukrainian populations in occupied areas, including the imposition of Russian political, legal, and administrative systems onto occupied Ukraine in violation of Russia’s international legal obligations as an occupying power. [5] ISW has reported at length on the specifics of Russia’s illegal occupation of Ukraine, consistent with the findings of the UN HRMMU report. [6]

Russian officials are tying the US and the West to a broader set of “terrorist” attacks against Russia following the Crocus City Hall attack, likely to intensify rhetoric about alleged Western and Ukrainian threats to generate greater domestic support for the war in Ukraine. The Russian Investigative Committee and Prosecutor General’s Office stated on March 27 that they will consider an appeal from the Russian State Duma to investigate American and Western financing and organization of terrorist attacks against Russia. [7] The Russian Investigative Committee, Prosecutor General’s Office, and the Duma Deputies that made the appeal did not explicitly reference the Crocus City Hall attack. [8] Kremlin officials have previously tied Ukraine and the West to the Crocus City Hall attack but have yet to make a formal accusation, and the Kremlin may refrain from issuing an official accusation as all available evidence continues to show that the Islamic State (IS) is very likely responsible for the attack. [9] Russian officials routinely describe Ukrainian military strikes against legitimate military targets in occupied Ukraine and Russia as terrorism and consistently claim that Western actors help organize these strikes. [10] The Kremlin likely aims to seize on wider Russian social fears and anger following the Crocus City Hall attack by portraying Ukraine, the US, and the West as immediate terrorist threats. The Kremlin likely hopes that perceptions of Ukrainian and Western involvement in the Crocus City Hall attack will increase domestic support for the war in Ukraine, and Russian officials will likely invoke a broader view of what they consider terrorism to further cast Ukrainians as terrorists and the West as a sponsor of terrorism. [11] The Kremlin may still formally accuse Ukraine of conducting the Crocus City Hall attack if it believes that these other informational efforts are insufficient to generate the domestic response it likely desires. [12]

Russian authorities are increasing legal pressure against migrants in Russia following recent Russian officials’ proposals for harsher measures against migrant communities in response to the March 22 Crocus City Hall attack. BBC News Russian Service stated that there has been a significant increase in the number of cases related to violations of the rules of entry for foreign citizens into Russia following the Crocus City Hall attack. [13] BBC News Russian Service reported on March 27 that 784 such cases have been registered since the morning of March 25, as compared with 1,106 during the entire previous week. A Russian lawyer who often works with Tajik citizens reportedly told BBC News Russian Service that over 100 people waited for a Moscow district court to hear their cases on March 25 alone and that Russian authorities are especially targeting migrants from Tajikistan during searches. BBC News Russian Service reported that representatives of the Tajik diaspora in Russia are expecting Russian authorities to conduct a large wave of deportations following the Crocus City Hall attack. A Russian insider source claimed on March 27 that unspecified actors gave the Moscow Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) an “unspoken” order to “not spare” migrants and for MVD employees to use their own judgement in the field. [14] The insider source claimed that a source suggested that Russian authorities are not preparing to conduct raids on migrant communities but will apply the “strictest measures” to migrants in “controversial situations.” Kremlin newswire TASS stated on March 27 that Russian police and Rosgvardia conducted a raid at the Wildberries warehouse in Elektrostal, Moscow Oblast to check the documents of migrant workers, and Russian opposition outlet Baza reported that Russian authorities detained 21 people during the raid. [15] Several Russian ultranationalist milbloggers complained that the way Russian-language schools in Tajikistan are teaching about Russia’s historical imperial occupation of Tajikistan is discouraging Tajik migrants from integrating into Russian society, essentially blaming migrants for the alienation that Russian society subjects them to. [16] Select Russian officials recently called for the introduction of several anti-migrant policies, which Russian authorities are unlikely to enact given Russia’s reliance on migrants for its force generation and labor needs. [17] Russian authorities may continue the practice of raiding migrant workplaces and increase crackdowns at border crossings to temporarily placate emotional cries for retribution following the March 22 attack as the Kremlin continues to develop a cogent and practical response.

We do not report in detail on Russian war crimes because these activities are well-covered in Western media and do not directly affect the military operations we are assessing and forecasting. We will continue to evaluate and report on the effects of these criminal activities on the Ukrainian military and the Ukrainian population and specifically on combat in Ukrainian urban areas. We utterly condemn Russian violations of the laws of armed conflict and the Geneva Conventions and crimes against humanity even though we do not describe them in these reports.

Russian Main Effort – Eastern Ukraine

Russian Subordinate Main Effort #1 – Luhansk Oblast (Russian objective: Capture the remainder of Luhansk Oblast and push westward into eastern Kharkiv Oblast and northern Donetsk Oblast)

Positional engagements continued along the Kupyansk-Svatove-Kreminna line on March 27, but there were no confirmed changes to the frontline in this area. Ukrainian and Russian sources stated that positional engagements continued northeast of Kupyansk near Synkivka and Lake Lyman; southeast of Kupyansk near Ivanivka; west of Kreminna near Terny and Yampolivka; and south of Kreminna near Bilohorivka. [18] Russian milbloggers claimed that Russian forces advanced near Terny, but ISW has not observed visual confirmation of this claim. [19] Chechen Republic Head Ramzan Kadyrov stated that elements of the Chechen Akhmat Spetsnaz “Aida” detachment are operating near Bilohorivka. [20]

Ukrainian officials reported that Russian forces struck Kharkiv City with a D-30 universal joint glide munition (UMPB), a guided glide bomb, on March 27. [21] Ukrainian officials noted that the strike was the first Russian glide bomb strike against Kharkiv City since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in 2022. [22] Ukrainian Kharkiv Oblast Military Administration Head Oleh Synehubov stated that the UMPB D-30 has a range of up to 90 kilometers and that Russian forces can launch the bomb from aircraft or ground-based Smerch multiple rocket launch systems (MLRS). [23] Russian forces struck Myrnohrad, Donetsk Oblast with three UMPB D-30SN guided glide bombs on March 10. [24]

Russian Subordinate Main Effort #2 – Donetsk Oblast (Russian objective: Capture the entirety of Donetsk Oblast, the claimed territory of Russia’s proxies in Donbas)

Russian forces reportedly advanced west of Bakhmut, although there were no confirmed changes to the frontline in the area on March 27. Russian milbloggers claimed that Russian forces advanced west of Bakhmut along a railway line and a section of the O0506 (Khromove-Chasiv Yar) highway by 1.15 kilometers in depth and 1.85 kilometers in width. [25] A Russian milblogger claimed that elements of the 98th Airborne (VDV) Division are advancing near Ivanivske and are within 500 meters of the city limits of Chasiv Yar (west of Bakhmut). [26] Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu credited elements of the Russian 102nd Motorized Rifle Regiment (150th Motorized Rifle Division, 8th Combined Arms Army [CAA], Southern Military District [SMD]) with seizing Ivanivske on March 24, although ISW has yet to observe visual evidence confirming that Russian forces have seized Ivanivske. [27] Positional fighting continued northeast of Bakhmut near Vesele; northwest of Bakhmut near Bohdanivka; west of Bakhmut near Ivanivske; southwest of Bakhmut near Klishchiivka and Andriivka; and south of Bakhmut near Shumy and Pivdenne. [28] A Ukrainian military observer reported that Russian forces have intensified transfers of equipment and personnel along ground lines of communication (GLOCs) through Kadiivka, Pervomaisk, and Popasna (all east of Bakhmut), but did not specify the destination of these transfers. [29] Kadiivka, Pervomaisk, and Popasna all lie along the T0504 Luhansk City-Bakhmut highway that runs directly from the Russian rear in occupied Luhansk Oblast into Bakhmut, however.

Russian forces recently advanced west of Avdiivka amid continued positional fighting in the area on March 27. Geolocated footage published on March 27 indicates that Russian forces recently advanced within Berdychi (northwest of Avdiivka) and in Orlivka (west of Avdiivka). [30] Russian milbloggers claimed that Russian forces entered Semenivka (northwest of Avdiivka) and are attacking Ukrainian positions within the settlement but that Ukrainian forces are actively counterattacking in the area. [31] A Russian milblogger claimed that Russian forces advanced 200 meters west of Orlivka on the western bank of the Durna River, 200 meters west of Tonenke (west of Avdiivka), 200 meters in the direction of Umanske (west of Avdiivka), 300 meters south of Tonenke towards Pervomaiske (southwest of Avdiivka), and 100 meters south of Nevelske (southwest of Avdiivka). [32] ISW has not observed visual confirmation of these claims. Positional fighting continued northwest of Avdiivka near Berdychi and Semenivka; west of Avdiivka near Orlivka, Tonenke, and Umanske; and southwest of Avdiivka near Vodyane, Nevelske, and Pervomaiske. [33]

Russian forces recently advanced southwest of Donetsk City amid continued positional fighting west and southwest of Donetsk City on March 27. Geolocated footage published on March 27 indicates that Russian forces recently advanced within central Novomykhailivka (southwest of Donetsk City). [34] Positional fighting continued west of Donetsk City near Heorhiivka and Krasnohorivka and southwest of Donetsk City near Novomykhailivka and Pobieda. [35] Elements of the Russian 5th Motorized Rifle Brigade (1st Donetsk People’s Republic [DNR] Army Corps [AC]) are reportedly operating near Krasnohorivka. [36]

Russian Supporting Effort – Southern Axis (Russian objective: Maintain frontline positions and secure rear areas against Ukrainian strikes)

Positional engagements continued in western Zaporizhia Oblast on March 27, but there were no confirmed changes to the frontline. Positional engagements continued near Robotyne, near Mala Tokmachka (northeast of Robotyne), northeast of Novoprokopivka (south of Robotyne), and northwest of Verbove (east of Robotyne). [38] Elements of the Russian 71st Motorized Rifle Regiment (42nd Motorized Rifle Division, 58th Combined Arms Army [CAA], Southern Military District [SMD]) reportedly continue operating within Robotyne. Russian Air, Missile, and Drone Campaign (Russian Objective: Target Ukrainian military and civilian infrastructure in the rear and on the frontline)

Russian forces conducted a series of drone and missile strikes against Ukraine on the night of March 26 to 27 and on March 27. The Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russian forces launched 13 Shahed-136/131 drones from Kursk Oblast and that Ukrainian forces shot down 10 drones over Kharkiv, Sumy, and Kyiv oblasts on the night of March 26 to 27. [41] Ukrainian officials reported that Russian drones struck civilian infrastructure in Izyum, Kharkiv Oblast. [42] Ukrainian Kharkiv Oblast Head Oleh Synehubov stated that a Russian Kh-35U subsonic anti-ship cruise missile struck Kharkiv City on the morning of March 27. [43] Ukraine’s Eastern Air Command reported that Ukrainian forces shot down an unspecified Russian cruise missile over Dnipropetrovsk Oblast on March 27. [44] Ukrainian officials stated that Russian forces struck an industrial enterprise in Mykolaiv City with an Iskander-M ballistic missile on the afternoon of March 27. [45]

Ukraine’s Southern Operational Command Spokesperson Colonel Nataliya Humenyuk stated that Russian forces have stored “several dozen” Zircon missiles in military facilities in occupied Crimea. [46] Ukrainian Air Force Spokesperson Major Ilya Yevlash stated that Ukrainian air defense systems, such as Patriot and SAMP/T systems, can intercept Zircon missiles when they slow down to about 3,700 kilometers per hour on approach to a target. [47]

Russian Mobilization and Force Generation Efforts (Russian objective: Expand combat power without conducting general mobilization)

Russian Storm-Z personnel continue to complain about their poor treatment by the Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) as the MoD tries to present the efficacy of its force generation and social benefit allocation system. Russian opposition outlet Mobilization News posted a video appeal from Storm-Z fighters from Kaluga Oblast on March 27 wherein one fighter claimed that after signing contracts with the Russian MoD, Russian command sent a Storm-Z unit of 230 people to the frontline, of whom only 38 survived combat. [48] The Storm-Z fighter complained that he has been unable to receive combat veteran status or promised payments from the Russian authorities for his service. [49] Mobilization News released another video on March 27 wherein relatives of killed and wounded Storm-Z fighters complain to Russian President Vladimir Putin that Russian authorities have not issued the Storm-Z fighters combat status or granted payments in the event of their death or injury in Ukraine. [50] The relatives of the Storm-Z fighters blamed the Russian MoD and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu for the poor treatment and lack of benefits for Storm-Z fighters. The Russian MoD relies heavily on Storm-Z recruits from penal colonies to carry out costly infantry-led frontal assaults against Ukrainian positions and is very unlikely to address complaints concerning their poor treatment. The Russian MoD claimed on March 27 that it is issuing electronic combat veteran certificates and streamlining and digitizing the process for veterans to obtain payments and social benefits — but these privileges evidently do not apply evenly to all personnel who have signed contracts with the Russian MoD. [51]

Russian news outlet Vedemosti reported that US-sanctioned Russian company Baikal Electronics is struggling to domestically package semiconductor chips to produce processors and that over half of its domestically produced processors are defective. [52] Vedemosti reported that Baikal Electronics began to experiment with domestically packaging chips in Russia at the end of 2021 and that outdated equipment and a lack of experienced employees caused the large amount of processor defects.

Russian Technological Adaptations (Russian objective: Introduce technological innovations to optimize systems for use in Ukraine)

Russian drone developer Albatross LLC told Kremlin newswire TASS that Russian forces used the Albatross M5 long-range reconnaissance drones to guide aviation and artillery strikes while repelling recent pro-Ukrainian Russian raids into Belgorod Oblast. [53] Albatross LLC noted that the modernized Albatross M5 drone has a maximum range of 60-80 kilometers.

Russian state news outlet RIA Novosti reported that Russian T-72B3, T-72B3M, T-80BVM, and T-90M tanks operating in Ukraine use Reflex-M guided weapon systems with the Invar-M/M1 anti-tank guided missiles to strike Ukrainian and Western-made vehicles. [54]

Ukrainian Defense Industrial Efforts (Ukrainian objective: Develop its defense industrial base to become more self-sufficient in cooperation with US, European, and international partners)

ISW is not publishing coverage of Ukrainian defense industrial efforts today.

Activities in Russian-occupied areas (Russian objective: Consolidate administrative control of annexed areas; forcibly integrate Ukrainian citizens into Russian sociocultural, economic, military, and governance systems)

ISW is not publishing coverage of activities in Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine today.

Russian officials are weaponizing international responses to the Crocus City Hall attack to accuse the West of espousing Russophobic policies and to baselessly blame Ukraine of involvement in the attack. Russian Ambassador to Austria Dmitry Lyubinsky claimed on March 27 that while the Austrian government reacted to the Crocus City Hall attack, it did not use the words “terrorist attack” or condemn the attack. [55] Lyubinsky accused Austria of having “taken a very special position in its hypocrisy” and a “daze of permissiveness” towards Ukraine and reiterated the Kremlin narrative baselessly connecting Ukraine to the attack. Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova reported that Russia has received 24-hour non-stop words of support from around the globe following the attack, but immediately pivoted to accuse Ukraine of involvement in the attack and blame NATO members of monopolizing the global fight against terror. [56]

Significant activity in Belarus (Russian efforts to increase its military presence in Belarus and further integrate Belarus into Russian-favorable frameworks and Wagner Group activity in Belarus)

Nothing significant to report.

Note: ISW does not receive any classified material from any source, uses only publicly available information, and draws extensively on Russian, Ukrainian, and Western reporting and social media as well as commercially available satellite imagery and other geospatial data as the basis for these reports. References to all sources used are provided in the endnotes of each update.
