Apple's iPhone 15 guided tour video might already be in the can and here's why
The new iPhones are getting closer.
We would all be very surprised if Apple didn't announce the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro devices on September 12 at this point, and now it seems that the company is getting its ducks in a row ahead of time.
Every year, following the launch of a new collection of iPhones, Apple shares a new guided tour video that highlights what they have to offer. It appears that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro version of that video has already been filmed in Mexico City.
If true, it's just another indication that Apple's best iPhones yet are just around the corner.
A trip to Mexico
The guided tour video appears to have been filmed around the Antara flagship Apple Store in Mexico City after TikTok creator Cris Martínez shared that they saw it all go down on August 4. According to them, Apple closed off the area around the store which might not normally mean all that much. Except there's a kicker - a famous face was in attendance.
According to the creator's video, spotted by 9to5Mac , they spotted the actor that has so far been the lead in Apple's guided tour videos. He was used for the iPhone 13- and iPhone 14-series videos and it appears they'll be present and correct this year as well.
If this all went down as we're told it did, it looks like the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro were inside that Apple Store a month or so before we expect them to be unveiled officially.
@crismxrtinez ♬ original sound - Cris Martínez
That official unveiling is expected to also see Apple show off the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 for the first time, with all of the new products likely to go on sale on September 22. We can expect a new guided tour video to arrive around the same time, too.

Got an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max? You'll Want to Explore These 3 New Features
Take advantage of all that your iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max has to offer.
A new 5x telephoto lens is one standout feature of the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
If you've been lucky enough to snag one of Apple's top-of-the-line iPhones -- the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max -- you might know about features like NameDrop , which lets you share contact info by moving your phones close together, and StandBy Mode , which turns your phone into a smart display.
The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max have a few special new hardware features that you should know about to make the most of your new phone, including five amazing cameras, a new action button and charging at USB 3.0 speeds.
Read more : Best iPhone 15 Deals
If you haven't had time to explore the features that are exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, there's no time like the present. We've highlighted three Pro and Pro Max exclusive features that you'll definitely want to set up, configure and put to use. If you're looking to get the most out of your new iPhone 15 Pro or 15 Pro Max, here's what you need to know.
1. Set up the new action button
The action button is one of the biggest changes to the iPhone hardware in a long time, replacing the ring/silent switch that's been around since the very first iPhone model. Instead of just toggling between ring and switch modes the action can be customized to do things like turn on your flashlight, record a voice memo and run a shortcut.
Read more : Use Your iPhone 15 Pro's New Action Button for More Than One Thing
In Settings > Action Button, swipe through the various actions you want the action button to perform when pressed. These are the actions you have available:
- Silent Mode (default) : Switch between silent and ring mode.
- Focus : Turn on your main Focus mode, like Do Not Disturb.
- Flashlight : Turn on your rear flashlight.
- Voice Memo : Record an audio note.
- Magnifier : Use your camera as a magnifying glass.
- Shortcut : Trigger a shortcut you've downloaded or created.
- Accessibility : Use an accessibility feature of your choosing.
Scroll to view all the actions available.
If you see arrows below an action, that means there are additional options. To assign an action to the button, simply swipe and stay on the action in your settings. When you're finished, exit the settings page.
2. Change the default camera lens when you open your camera
The default main camera on the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max is the 24mm lens, which is equivalent to 1x zoom. It's your standard lens, but if you always find yourself zooming in a tiny bit when you're snapping a photograph, you can change over to a different default lens for the main camera.
In Settings > Camera > Main Camera, choose between the three main lenses:
- 24mm - 1x (default)
- 28mm - 1.2x
- 35mm - 1.5x
The next time you open your main camera, your camera will start at whatever new focal length you choose, whether it's 1.2x or 1.5x. If you want to swap between lenses, tap the main camera zoom control to manually switch between 24mm, 28mm and 35mm. You can also press and hold down on the control and drag the slider for more precise control.
On the far right, you can see that 1.2x appears as the default focal length.
3. Take advantage of the iPhone 15 Pro's USB-C 3.0 speeds
The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus both have a USB-C port, but the two models support the same USB 2.0 speeds as prior iPhone models with a Lightning port, which is 480 megabits per second. The iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max on the other hand also have USB-C ports , but they support USB 3.0 speeds, which is 10 gigabits per second -- making it 20 times faster.
What does this all mean for you? First, you'll need a USB-C cable that supports 3.0 speeds. The USB-C cable that comes with your iPhone only supports 2.0 speeds, so you'll need to buy an additional cable ( like this one on Amazon ).
You can't use the braided USB-C cable that comes inside the iPhone 15 Pro packaging if you want 3.0 speeds.
Now that you have the correct cable, you can quickly transfer data between your iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max. If you're transferring data from iTunes to your iPhone, and vice versa, that should be quicker. It works for really any files being transferred out of your iPhone, especially to a flash drive; that'll also be faster.
Apple also has a page highlighting that the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max can support recording ProRes video (high-quality lossy video compression format) directly to an external storage device, at up to 4K at 60 frames per second. It's a niche feature, but if you're a cinematographer or a video editor, shooting in ProRes gives you better detail and color depth that you can color grade later on without losing quality. Having it directly recorded to an external storage device saves space and time, allowing you to connect the SD directly to your computer without having to transfer it from your iPhone first.

Apple may have just recorded the iPhone 15 Guided Tour in Mexico City
When Apple introduces a new iPhone, the company also publishes a series of videos highlighting the new features of the devices. In the last two years, the company has created a new Guided Tour format in which a person walks around a city to show off the capabilities of the new iPhone. And it seems that the company has just shot a video in Mexico City to promote the iPhone 15.
iPhone 15 ads may have been recorded in Mexico City
As noted by creator Cris Martínez , Apple closed the surroundings of its Antara flagship store in Mexico City on August 4 to record a special video. Of course, this could mean anything, such as a new advertisement being recorded for Mexico. But the whole project seems to be bigger than that.
That’s because Martínez spotted someone familiar there – the same actor who presented the last two Guided Tour videos of the new iPhones.
In 2021, Apple chose Los Angeles and its Tower Theatre store to be the setting for the iPhone 13 Guided Tour , when we got to see this actor for the first time. In the video, the actor plays an Apple employee who details the specifications of the new iPhones and demonstrates the new features in action. While some scenes were shot inside the Apple Store, others were shot around the city.
The same actor returned last year to record the iPhone 14 Guided Tour, but this time in New York. The video starts at the Upper West Side store and then follows the same route as before, with the actor demonstrating the new iPhone 14 and 14 Pro while walking around New York City.
With this in mind, it seems obvious that Apple chose Mexico City as the setting for the iPhone 15 introduction video – and that the people around the Apple Antara Store during the shoot were only a few meters away from seeing a real iPhone 15 a month before its launch.
@crismxrtinez 😱📱 ¡Hoy pude ver cómo grababan el “comercial del iPhone 15” en CDMX! #comercial #applestore #cdmx #crevoo #crisapple #grabacion #iPhone15 #iPhone15Pro #mexico ♬ original sound – Cris Martínez
Apple and Mexico
This is not the first time that Apple has recorded advertisements in Mexico. The video that opens WWDC 2023 , with a developer chasing a bubble, was shot on the streets of Mexico City. The “Hello Yellow” ad promoting the new spring color of the iPhone 14, launched earlier this year, was also shot in Mexico.
Unfortunately, no one actually got to see an iPhone 15 in person during the shoot, but we’ll probably see the final result in exactly three weeks, when Apple is rumored to announce the new iPhones. But given that the Apple Antara store is really beautiful, just like Mexico City, I’m sure the iPhone 15 Guided Tour will look amazing.

The video, which clocks in at seven and a half minutes, introduces the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max before expanding on and walking users through their specific sets of features. For example, there are portions explaining the new 120Hz ProMotion display, camera improvements, and increased battery life.
"Learning about the new models and the differences between them will help you decide which is the right one for you," Apple says in the video description.
Apple unveiled the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro models at its "California Streamin'" event on Tuesday. All four models became available for preorder on Friday, with the first deliveries slated for Sept. 24.

iPhone 16 Pro vs iPhone 15 Pro: This could be the most underrated upgrade
The jump to Wi-Fi 7 is a big deal
There's a ton of intriguing iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max rumors floating around as we inch closer to Apple's usual big September event. And I recently recapped the 7 biggest iPhone 16 Pro Max rumored upgrades to help make sense of all the leaks. But there's one new feature in particular that has me excited for this new flagship.
Don't get me wrong. I think Apple potentially giving both new iPhone Pros larger displays (6.3 inches for the iPhone 16 Pro and 6.9 inches for the iPhone 16 Pro Max) will likely grab a bunch of headlines, as will the rumored new Capture button. Apple will also probably make a huge deal out of its new AI features, some of which will come alongside iOS 18 and some that may be exclusive to the hardware.
But I think the jump from Wi-Fi 6E on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max to Wi-Fi 7 could be a much bigger deal than you might think. The catch? Wi-Fi 7 is not cheap.
Why Wi-Fi 7 matters
According to analyst Jeff Pu and reported by MacRumors , the iPhone 16 Pro series is tipped to feature Wi-Fi 7 support, which would be the first Apple device to do so. As you'll see in our guide to Wi-Fi 7 , there's some serious benefits versus Wi-Fi 6E networking technology.
Wi-Fi 7 devices are able to send and receive data over three bands at once: 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz. Wi-Fi 6E added support for 6GHz but it can't handle all three bands simultaneously. As a result, Wi-Fi 7 promises faster Wi-Fi speeds and a lot more.
As you'll see based on our testing, the best Wi-Fi 7 routers are very impressive. In fact, the Netgear Orbi RBE973 , which is our current top pick, achieved speeds of over 2 Gbps at close distances. But that's only a fraction of what Wi-Fi 7 routers are capable of. They can reach a max speed of up to 46 Gbps.
As our senior networking editor Anthony Spadafora sums up in his 3 reasons why Wi-Fi 7 is the best upgrade for your home network in years , increased speed is only part of the appeal. The wider 320 MHz channels (up from 160 MHz) makes more bandwidth available to your devices. And because there are more channels available at various frequencies, there should be less interference from other nearby routers.
The killer upgrade with Wi-Fi 7 is called Multi-Link Operation, which would enable the iPhone 16 Pro series to connect to multiple bands and channels at once. This means increased throughput and less latency.
Is Wi-Fi 7 too ahead of its time?
Because Wi-Fi 7 is still a relatively new technology, the routers that support the standard are quite pricey. The above Netgear Orbi RBE973 is a mesh Wi-Fi system that starts at $1,699 for a 2-pack and goes up to $2,299 for a 3-pack. The previous Orbi 960 Wi-Fi 6E system is $600 less for the 2 pack and and $1,000 less for the 3-pack.
Meanwhile, the TP-Link Deco BE85 system starts at $499 for a single unit and goes up to $899 for a 2-pack and $1,299 for a 3-pack. That's still steep but more reasonable. Keep in mind though, these are both mesh Wi-Fi systems and not traditional routers. The TP-Link Deco Archer BE800 can be had for $599 and there's even a cheaper version (the Archer BE550) without all of the bells and whistles for just $300.
So what about other Wi-Fi 7 devices? There are plenty of phones out there that support the latest wireless standard, including the Galaxy S24 series, OnePlus 12 and Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro .
And there's a good number of laptops starting to support Wi-Fi 7, including the HP Omen Transcend 14 , Acer Swift Edge 16 , Alienware M18 and MSI Raider. But an important tipping point will come with the arrival of Apple's next MacBooks and iPads.
I suspect that the upcoming iPad Pro 2024 will offer Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, though perhaps not the more affordable iPad Air 2024 . We'll have to see. And we may have to wait until Apple's next wave of M4 MacBooks to see Wi-Fi 7 materialize.
Bottom line
Now that more of us are holding onto our phones for 3 years or longer, it makes sense to make your next purchase as future proof as possible. And while I'm excited to see what display, design and camera upgrades Apple has in store for the new iPhone 16 Pro series, the addition of Wi-Fi 7 could have a long-lasting impact as more of us upgrade our routers over the next couple of years.
